Charlotte Rae Shared the Touching Reason She Loved Being on ‘The Facts of Life’ 2 Years Before Her Death

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 10:32am

Charlotte Rae, who played Edna Garrett on The Facts of Life, opened up about her favorite part of being on the iconic series just two years before her death.

Rae, who died at 92 in 2018, first played Edna Garrett on Diff’rent Strokes in 1978 before scoring her own spinoff, The Facts of Life, which she starred on from 1979 to 1986. The beloved series chronicled the ups and downs of the all-girls Eastland School and starred Rae alongside Nancy McKeonKim FieldsMindy Cohn, and Lisa Whelchel. A staple of the decade, the show continued after Rae finished her run, but many fans consider those to be the best years.

In a revealing interview before her death, Rae opened up about what she loved most about appearing on the series.

"At the book signings, a lot of grown-ups were saying that they were latch-key kids and they really related to Mrs. Garrett," Rae said during an interview with the Television Academy Foundation.  "She was who they really hung on to and clung to and loved. [She was] the mother that they wish that they had around and being there and all that. And so that makes me happy that I served some service."

Where is Nancy McKeon These Days?

Nancy McKeon skyrocketed to fame on the series as tough-talking Jo Polniaczek, and she recently celebrated her 60th birthday. America’s ‘Most Reliable’ Airline Is About To Fold— Is Buying Their Ultra-Cheap Tickets Worth the Risk?

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 10:29am

For years, Spirit Airlines built its reputation on one simple promise: rock-bottom fares that made flying accessible to nearly anyone. But now, that same ultra-low-cost model is under extreme pressure. The airline is navigating bankruptcy proceedings, facing mounting operational losses, and has even paused ticket sales beyond April 2026 due to uncertainty about its future. In practical terms, Spirit’s survival is no longer something travelers can assume.

So the big question for budget travelers becomes unavoidable: Are those ultra-cheap tickets still worth buying?

Unbeatable Upfront Prices

There’s no denying Spirit’s main draw: price. On many domestic routes, it can still be significantly cheaper than legacy carriers like Delta, American, or United. For short weekend trips or flexible travel plans, those savings can feel like a win, especially for families or travelers on tight budgets.

But the real issue is that Spirit’s low fares are only “cheap” on the surface. Once you add carry-on bags, seat selection, and checked luggage, the total cost can quickly approach, or even match, traditional airlines. The difference is that legacy carriers tend to include more of those basics in the ticket price.

The Growing Risks Behind the Discount Fare

What makes the current situation different is stability. Spirit is operating under bankruptcy protection, has undergone repeated financial restructuring, and is facing major external shocks such as rising fuel costs and operational constraints. Industry analysis suggests that continued volatility in fuel prices could severely undermine its recovery plan, pushing the airline closer to shrinking operations or even liquidation.

That creates several real risks for travelers:

  • Flight cancellations or schedule changes: Airlines in financial distress often reduce routes or consolidate schedules. That means your flight might be canceled, rescheduled, or moved to inconvenient times.
  • Limited rebooking options: Unlike major airlines with large fleets and partner networks, Spirit has fewer backup flights. If something goes wrong, recovery options are limited.
  • Refund uncertainty during disruption: While U.S. regulations generally require refunds for canceled flights, the timing and ease of getting that money back can vary, and during bankruptcy proceedings, delays are common.
  • Future availability concerns: With booking windows already cut off beyond April 2026, travelers planning farther out are essentially gambling on the airline’s continued existence.

Related: Spirit Airlines Is Surviving Second Bankruptcy — But There’s A Catch

Uncertainty Itself

Even if Spirit continues operating in the short term, perception matters. When travelers start doubting an airline’s survival, demand drops. That creates a feedback loop: fewer bookings lead to greater financial pressure, which in turn leads to more cancellations and instability.

This “confidence problem” is often what pushes struggling airlines from recovery into collapse faster than financial issues alone.

Are The Savings Still Worth It?

The answer depends on how flexible your trip is.

Spirit can still make sense if:

  • You’re flying soon (within the current confirmed schedule window)
  • You can tolerate schedule changes
  • You are not booking tight connections or non-refundable plans around the flight
  • The price difference is substantial enough to justify the risk

But Spirit becomes a poor choice if:

  • Your trip is important (weddings, cruises, international connections)
  • You’re booking months in advance
  • You need reliability or backup options
  • The price gap is small after baggage and fees

In those cases, the “cheap ticket” may not actually be cheap when you factor in risk.

Related: Scary Spirit Airlines Experience Goes Viral After Passengers Were Forced to Restrain a Man—I Can't Say I Would've Done the Same

Smart Alternatives For Budget Travelers

Fortunately, Spirit is not the only low-cost option. Depending on your route, alternatives include:

  • Frontier Airlines: similar ultra-low-cost model but slightly different route network
  • Southwest Airlines: often higher base fare but includes bags and better flexibility
  • Legacy carriers (Delta, American, United): sometimes match Spirit pricing during sales, with far better reliability
  • Fare comparison tools: aggregators like Google Flights can reveal when Spirit’s “deal” isn’t really the cheapest once fees are included

Spirit Airlines is no longer just a bargain carrier; it’s a risk-priced carrier. The fare might be low, but the uncertainty is higher than ever.

For travelers who can absorb disruption, the savings may still be worth it. But for anyone who needs certainty, peace of mind is becoming the real premium product in air travel.

Keep the Trust Fund: The Real Nepo Baby Fortune is Hidden in Your Makeup Bag

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 10:13am

While the internet stays busy arguing over which star deserves a movie role, the children of A-listers have staged a retail coup. In 2026, the inheritance doesn’t stop with a house in the hills, it's evolved into a a pre-built distribution empire that ends up in your bathroom cabinet.

A March report just dropped the receipts on the nepo baby economy. The numbers reveal more than the gifting of free clothes or a one-off perfume deal. It’s become a multi-billion dollar corporate monopoly.

Kylie Jenner is the undisputed queen of the inheritance-to-inventory pipeline. Her brand, Kylie Cosmetics, is on track to pull in $400M in revenue this year. Because she has 34.4 million followers watching her every move, she doesn't have to pay for a single billboard. Her sisterKendall is doing the same thing in the liquor aisle. 818 Tequila raked in $50M last year. They’ve figured out the cheat code: why waste time auditioning for a director when you can have your very own supply chain?

Hailey Bieber is proving that having a famous maiden name and a famous married name is the best business hack. Rhode Skin cleared $212M in 2025 and its only been around since 2022. That is a vertical climb that makes seasoned CEOs look like they’re standing still.

Cashmere, Hot Sauce, and the Hadid Sisters

The list of heirs-turned-owners is getting crowded:

  • Gigi Hadid: Making cashmere a power move with Guest In Residence ($30M).
  • Bella Hadid: Playing the long game with Kin Euphorics ($11M) and her new fragrance line, Orebella, which is already sniffing out half a million in revenue after just one year.
  • Brooklyn Beckham: Turning a kitchen hobby into a $3M win with Cloud23 Hot Sauce.
  • Jaden Smith: Hydrating the masses with JUST Water ($9.4M).
The Fame Loop

“Ten years ago, a famous last name mostly opened doors in entertainment. Now it gives a product millions of Instagram followers before it even exists, and those followers are a distribution channel,” CEO of Overnight Glasses (the company that commissioned the study) Gidon Sadovsky said in a statement. The term 'nepo baby' exploded in 2022, the same period when celebrity-founded consumer brands started growing at an unprecedented rate. Kylie Jenner's social media followers aren't just a vanity metric. They're the entire go-to-market strategy, without the ad spend.”

Whether it’s Patrick Schwarzenegger’s MOSH Protein ($12M) or Georgia May Jagger’s Bleach London ($15M), the trend is the same. Fame (and the proximity to it) is the only currency that matters, and the exchange rate is better than it has ever been.

Breyers and Good Humor Turn Nostalgic Ice Cream Bar Favorites Into 2 New Pint Flavors

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 10:11am

Breyers or Good Humor? It doesn't matter which brand you pledge your loyalty to in this new collaboration.

The popular ice cream and frozen treat companies have each earned the respect of consumers for over 100 years, and if that doesn't say it all, their expansive lineup of innovations and the fact that some fans are still distraught over items that were discontinued years ago just might (RIP Good Humor's Toasted Almond Bar).

And now the two brands are joining forces to launch two new pint-sized frozen dairy desserts inspired by popular Good Humor products: its Strawberry Shortcake Dessert Bars and Creamsicle ice cream bars.

Breyers and Good Humor Collab Gets Fans Pints of 2 Nostalgic Flavors

Debuting as part of the partnership between Breyers and Good Humor that aims to give consumers new and exciting ways to enjoy their favorite sweet treats are the all-new Breyers Good Humor Strawberry Shortcake and Breyers Creamsicle Pint. The new collection also includes an Almond Joy-inspired pint, which Parade previously reported on earlier this week.

  • Breyers Good Humor Strawberry Shortcake: The Strawberry Shortcake bars (and now tubs!) everyone loves, now in the convenience of a pint! Breyers calls it the "perfect combination of classic Breyers and America’s favorite Strawberry Shortcake bar in one." It's got vibrant strawberry swirls in a creamy vanilla frozen dessert, plus the signature Good Humor cake crumbles.
  • Breyers Creamsicle Pint: Breyers said this takes the brand's vibrant citrus sherbert and swirls it into its creamy vanilla frozen dairy dessert to recreate the iconic Creamsicle flavor. The company promises this pint is "as refreshing as it is delicious, and as nostalgic as it is on trend!"
Breyers Good Humor Strawberry Shortcake Frozen Dairy Dessert (L) and Creamsicle (R).

So far, fans' only critique is that they wish the treats were real ice cream rather than the controversial frozen dairy dessert, which many consider inferior and rate as less creamy than ice cream. The phenomenon is likely due to frozen dairy desserts containing less milkfat than standard ice cream and often substituting traditional ingredients with vegetable oils and other emulsifiers.

Where Will Breyers' Good Humor-Flavored Pints Be Sold?

The new Strawberry Shortcake and Creamsicle-flavored pints are now available at convenience stores nationwide—including 7-Eleven—with a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $4.49, according to an official statement shared with Parade.

What Is 'Deadzoning?' Why This New Travel Trend Is the Secret to a Stress-Free Vacation

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 10:10am

In an era where we're all chronically online, the line between a relaxing vacation and a remote workday has become dangerously thin. According to a recent report from Moodle, 66% of U.S. workers have experienced some kind of burnout—a figure that climbs even higher for younger generations. This is backed by the 2025-2026 Aflac WorkForces Report, which found that burnout among American employees has reached a seven-year high, with 72% reporting moderate to very high stress levels.

It is no wonder, then, that a new travel craze called "deadzoning" is sweeping through the travel world. As first reported by The Guardian and HuffPost, this trend involves an "intentional disconnect" while on vacation, prioritizing mental presence over digital productivity.

The "Work-From-Anywhere" Trap

The root of the problem is that our newfound flexibility has become a subtle trap. Thanks to "work-from-anywhere" policies, it is now technically possible to fire off emails from a beach chair or join a Zoom call from an out-of-state Airbnb. As HuffPost points out, this has led to a bizarre paradox: we are traveling more than ever, but we are actually vacationing less.

To combat this "email creep" and the relentless pings of Slack, travelers are now forced to be aggressive about reclaiming their peace. "Deadzoning" is the intentional answer to that trap—it is the act of writing that firm out-of-office responder (for both work and private emails) and seeking out destinations with a "shoddy" Wi-Fi signal specifically to ensure that the office cannot follow you into the sunset.

Related: Why More Travelers Are Ditching Packed Itineraries for Slow Travel (And Loving It More)

The Science of "The Push"

While the term might be new, the psychological need behind it is well-documented. Speaking to Euronews Travel, Dr. Birgit Trauer—who holds a PhD in Tourism Management from The University of Queensland—explains that trips are shaped by "push-pull" motivations.

"We tend to think of travel as being drawn towards a destination, but it’s equally about being pushed away from something, whether it’s work or other stressors," Dr. Trauer says. She argues that "deadzoning" is a form of "regeneration," allowing travelers to reignite their innate human capacity to connect with themselves and others without the "cognitive load" of constant pings and notifications.

Related: Lisbon Is the Perfect European Escape for Solo Women Over 50—and Here’s Why

Millennials, Gen Z, and the "Hippie Trail"

While HuffPost notes that deadzoning is especially popular among millennials and Gen Z, Dr. Trauer points out that the concept isn't entirely new. It mirrors the "Hippie Trails" of the 1950s through the 1970s, a bygone era where, according to travel writer Michael Gebicki, you could travel for weeks "without speaking with anyone from back home."

The difference in 2026? Today’s travelers are doing it as a conscious response to an "algorithm-driven culture." They aren’t necessarily rejecting technology, but as Dr. Trauer notes, they are seeking to "rebalance and better control how they engage with it."

Related: American Airlines Is Launching New Nonstop Flights to the Laid-Back European City Everyone Wants to Visit

How to "Deadzone" Your Next Trip

According to the experts, you don't need a massive budget to find a deadzone. While long-haul trips to Asia or Australia are popular, Dr. Trauer emphasizes that "it can start much closer to home." Whether it is choosing a domestic "off-the-grid" rental or simply being "choosy with the notifications you keep on," the goal is to create a space where work calls are silenced and office emails are redirected.

By unplugging, travelers can lower anxiety and improve mindfulness—though Dr. Trauer warns of a "reversed culture shock" upon return. The challenge is integrating those changes into your daily life rather than just wanting to "escape again" the moment you hit the office.

Jake Reiner Makes 1st Comment on Brother Nick Reiner's Involvement in Parents' Murders

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 10:04am

Jake Reiner shared an emotional statement four months after his parents, Rob and MicheleReiner, were murdered, touching on his brother NickReiner's involvement.

"We lost more than half of our family that night in the most violent way imaginable," Jake wrote via Substack of the December 2025 tragedy. "Sure, any loss of a parent is devastating, but nothing compares to losing both of them at the same time and, on top of that, having your brother be at the center of it. It’s almost too impossible to process."

He went on to say that despite the murders and impending trial, "some parts of this belong only to our family."

View this post on Instagram

"Keeping them private is the only way to protect what little remains of something that was taken from us," he shared.

The "A Few Good Men" filmmaker was found brutally slain in the primary bedroom of his Brentwood, California, home on December 14, 2025. His longtime wife, Michele Reiner, was also found dead inside the home.

The couple's youngest son, Nick Reiner, was later charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the killing of his parents. Nick has since pleaded not guilty, but remains behind bars without bail.

"To me, my parents are at the center of my life. They are my guiding lights, the foundation of who I am as a human being, and the most giving people I have ever known. A lot of people don’t have the luxury of having the best parents, the best mom, or the best dad, but I did," Jake continued. "The love they have for me, my brother, and my sister is truly unconditional. And the love they have for each other in their marriage is something I always looked up to as the standard of what a successful relationship looks like."

A TV adaptation of The Nanny Diaries is officially underway, with Scarlett Johanssonspearheading the project with her film company, These Pictures. Fri, 04/24/2026 - 9:51am

Cary Elwes will always be Westley from The Princess Bride to many of us, but the handsome actor and director calls being a devoted dad his favorite role of all.

Elwes, 63, who rose to superstardom in the Rob Reiner-directed romantic fantasy film opposite Robin WrightMandy Patinkin, and Wallace Shawn, has continued to make waves in recent years with films like Dead Man's Wire. But it's a new birthday post honoring his lookalike 19-year-old daughter, Dominique, that made our hearts swell.

"19 years ago our dream came true with your arrival into this world. Your mom and I are in awe of you as you continue to make us proud every single day. What a blessing you are. Elwes Honored Dominique on National Daughters Day

Last year, Elwes took to Instagram to share a stunning photo of Dominique in honor of National Daughters Day. The stunning shot showed the tanned beauty staring off into the distance. However, it was the touching words that Elwes used to express his love for his daughter that captured our hearts.

“Happy Daughter’s Day, Dominique. You are the greatest thing to ever happen to me and your mom. We are so blessed to be your parents as you continue to make us proud every single day. We love you so much @dominiqueelwes 🩷🙏,” Elwes captioned the photo.

While Elwes has had tremendous success in front of and behind the camera in Hollywood, he has always made it clear that his top focus is his wife and daughter.

“I bring them with me if I can, or if I can’t bring them on location, I make sure I fly home the minute I have a break to be with them,” Elwes, who has been married to his wife, Lisa Marie Kubikoff, since 2000, told PEOPLE.

On October 26, 2025, Elwes turned 63 and shared this stunning photo of himself, Lisa Marie, and Dominique from his celebration.

Dominique is even set to follow in her dad’s footsteps, heading off to college to study film.

“She saw me getting dressed in costume, and because I used to play dress up with her, she said, ‘Daddy, do they pay you to do dress up?’ I said, ‘As a matter of fact, they do,’ and she went ‘They do?’ Like that, and that was it,” he told the publication.

“I said, ‘Now you’ve got the bug. There’s no cure.’ So she’s going to Santa Barbara and she’s studying film, she’s studying directing, film theory, and film history. I couldn’t be more proud of her,” Elwes continued. “It’s an hour away, her mother’s really happy about that.”

We Asked 4 Longevity Experts What the Best Habits Are for Living Longer and They All Said the Same Thing

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 9:50am

Earlier this month, many of the health industry’s most respected experts congregated at CityPlace West Palm Beach for the ninth annual District Fit Festival, a weekend full of fitness classes, restorative sound baths and engaging wellness panels.

Parade was there too, talking with functional medicine doctors, personal trainers and other experts about the ever-crowded wellness space. There are more health start-ups, supplements and wellness clubs than ever before, and trends spreading like wildfire on social media. How can the average person know who to trust and what wellness trends are actually worth the time and money? (For example: Mouth taping? Hard pass. Japanese walking? Well-worth trying.)

🩺SIGN UP for tips to stay healthy & fit with the top moves, clean eats, health trends & more delivered right to your inbox twice a week💊

Longevity was a major topic that kept resurfacing throughout the fitness festival, including the topic of discussion for a panel consisting of four leaders in the health space: Dr. Caleb Moore, MD, an internal medicine doctor and the medical director of Atria Health and Research Institute; Brandon Kaplan, CEO of Maxwell Club (a company focused on improving healthspan), Sean Hoess, CEO of Eudemonia Summit (a longevity company) and former CEO of Wanderlust and Kenny Santucci, CPT, personal trainer and founder of Strong New York.

When asked what the most important habits for living longer are, all four experts had the exact same answer, despite having different backgrounds in the health space. What are the two habits that make the biggest impact in terms of longevity? Keep reading to find out. Plus, their tips for knowing what wellness trends are worth pursuing.

The 2 Best Habits for Longevity, According to Experts

MoMo Productions/Getty Images

Certainly, the key to longevity doesn’t just come down to one habit. If it were that easy, we’d all be living into the triple digits. The cornerstones of healthy living, such as eating nutrient-rich foods, getting regular physical activity, consistently getting enough sleep and having healthy ways to manage stress all matter. But what’s most important?

According to all four of the aforementioned experts, the two most important habits for longevity are strength training and community. “Everyone tries to figure out what’s going to be the next big thing. Strength and community are tried and true,” Santucci tells Parade.

Scientific research backs this up. According to a study taking into account more than 115,000 people 65 and older, when strength training twice a week was integrated into a workout routine that already included 2.5 hours of aerobic exercise a week, the risk of dying dropped by 30%. That’s major!

Related: 'I'm a Longevity Expert—Add These 3 (Delicious) Foods To Your Diet if You Want To Live Longer'

The experts explain that the reason why strength training is so important for healthy aging is that it helps prevent muscle and bone loss. This helps with mobility and significantly lowers the risk of falling, which can lead to bone fractures. If you want to maintain your independence into old age, strength training is key.

“We’ve overcomplicated a lot of stuff, but if I could give people one tip when it comes to health, it’s to get up and lift weights, and do it with as many people you love as you can,” Santucci says.

As Santucci shared, being part of a community is also important for longevity, which is also backed by science. According to one meta-analysis taking into account more than 148 scientific studies and more than 300,000 people, those with strong social relationships had a 50% increased likelihood of survival. “Training your brain is as important as training your body,” Santucci says, adding that this is done by maintaining social connections with others.

Hoess also spoke to the importance of maintaining social connections, saying that social wellness (hanging out with people and doing healthy activities together) is the top wellness habit worth your time and money. For example, he says that group saunas are becoming more popular in the U.S., a cultural habit that’s long been the norm in countries like Finland, Russia, Turkey and Japan.

Additional Longevity Tips

While it can be easy to get swept up in buzzy wellness trends, Dr. Moore and Kaplan say that a lot of what’s important to longevity is basic, yet important. For example, both say that maintaining healthy blood pressure and cholesterol are key to longevity. Trendy? Not really. Life-lengthening? Definitely.

When it comes to longevity, Kaplan says a great first step is staying on top of your annual checkups with your doctor and on top of relevant cancer screenings. If you have any health conditions that need managing (such as obesity, diabetes or high blood pressure), that’s step two. Again, it may sound basic, but it can add years to your life.

How To Know if a Wellness Trend Is Worth the Money

As industry leaders, all four panelists have a front row seat to the latest wellness companies and products hitting the market. Kaplan emphasizes the importance of not falling for “well-washing,” which is when a wellness company or habit isn’t backed by science.

Whenever you are considering whether a health trend or habit is worth pursuing, Dr. Moore says to look at the data. What do scientific studies have to say about it? Especially if you plan on pursuing a habit long-term, it’s worth spending some time researching it before you go all in.

At the same time, it’s important to remain receptive to new ideas. “Before something becomes science, it has to be a theory. It’s important to look at the science and data, but keep an open mind,” Dr. Moore recommends.

Just because a workout, diet or wellness habit is trendy doesn’t mean it’s worth doing—but it doesn’t necessarily mean you should automatically skip it either. After all, the more information we have, the more we can use the latest scientific intel to live well.

But it’s also a safe bet that the foundations of health won’t change. With that in mind, go lift something heavy and spend time with someone you love.

Interestingly, Boyd mentioned Clapton's famous song "Layla," which he performed with his band Derek and the Dominoes. Legend has always said that the song was always inspired by Clapton's secret love for Boyd while she was married to Harrison.

'90s Country Icon Shares Exciting Family News: 'We Are Blessed Indeed'

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 9:42am

Martina McBride just made one of the most exciting announcements anyone can ever make. Her devoted country music fans are celebrating right along with her —because it involves the kind of news that makes everything else seem instantly unimportant.

On Thursday, April 23, the "Independence Day" singer shared on Instagram that her oldest daughter, Delaney, is pregnant and expecting her first child. After almost forty years of marriage to husband, John McBride, and raising three daughters, Martina is about to level up to one of life's sweetest transitions: becoming a grandmother.

"My first baby is having a baby!!!!! We are so excited and happy to be welcoming our first grandchild. We are blessed indeed," the grandma-to-be enthusiastically posted.

The post itself included 2 simple but poignant photos of Delaney cradling her baby bump and posing with her partner, capturing the joy radiating from both parents-to-be.

Fans immediately flooded the comments with congratulations and shared wisdom from their own grandparenting journeys.

"Absolutely nothing like seeing your child have a child. All the love you poured into them, they now share with their own baby," one fan commented, perfectly capturing the generational beauty of the moment.

Kimberly Williams-Paisley commented simply: "Yay!! Congratulations!!"

Another excited fan who herself recently graduated to grandmother status shared: "Congratulations on your first grandchild. I just had my first grandchild born in January and I am the happiest person on the face of the planet. Nothing like the love of a grandchild."

Who is Martina McBride's Daughter, Delaney?

Delaney Katherine McBride, born on December 22, 1994, has built a life dedicated to helping others. Based in Nashville, she's a licensed massage therapist, postpartum doula and yoga instructor who founded Hand to Heart Wellness.

Martina has always prioritized family above everything else, once telling People she turned down many TV opportunities and lengthy overseas tours to keep life "as sane and normal as possible for the kids."

"But I wouldn't trade it for anything. I really did get the best of both worlds," she said. "I got to have this amazing, exciting, fulfilling career, and I got to raise these human beings who are just the loves of my life."

Now, as Delaney prepares to become a mom herself, the circle continues. One fan captured it beautifully: "There's a special love that you didn't know you had that being a grandmother unlocks."

For Martina McBride — who spent decades making music that celebrated strength, independence and the bonds between women — watching her daughter step into motherhood represents something profound.

Blessed indeed.

How Rob Reiner's Eldest Son Jake Learned of His Parents' Deaths

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 9:34am

Jake Reiner vulnerably shared details of the moment he learned his parents had been killed.

In his first public statement since the December 2025 tragedy, Jake vulnerably shared that he was at a celebration of life for a close friend when he received the news.

"On the afternoon of December 14, I was in Union Station at a celebration of life for one of my best friends, Christian Anderson, who died in October. It was at that moment I received a call from my sister Romy telling me our father was dead. Minutes later, she called back telling me our mother was also dead," he wrote in a Substack essay shared on Friday, April 24.

View this post on Instagram

He continued, "The 45-minute Lyft ride from downtown to the west side was unendurable. My world, as I knew it, had collapsed. I was in a trance. The only thing I could focus on was that I needed to get to my childhood home. I needed to get to my sister. I needed to figure out what the hell just happened."

Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead inside the primary bedroom of their Brentwood, California, estate on December 14, 2025.

The couple were discovered with "lacerations consistent with a knife," TMZ reported at the time.

"Nothing can prepare you for what it feels like to lose both parents instantly at the same time. It’s too devastating to comprehend," Jake shared. "I still wake up every morning having to convince myself that, no, it’s not a dream. This truly is my living nightmare."

It was later revealed that Rob and his younger son, Nick Reiner, got into a heated argument at a holiday celebration at comedian Conan O'Brien's home the previous evening. Nick was located and taken into custody in connection with the deaths. He is facing two counts of first-degree murder.

During a February 23 court appearance, Nick pleaded not guilty.

"We lost more than half of our family that night in the most violent way imaginable," Jake wrote. "Sure, any loss of a parent is devastating, but nothing compares to losing both of them at the same time and, on top of that, having your brother be at the center of it. It’s almost too impossible to process. I understand that people have questions about what happened. Some of those answers will come in time. But some parts of this belong only to our family, and keeping them private is the only way to protect what little remains of something that was taken from us."

As 'MICHAEL' Hits Theaters, Michael Jackson’s Own Words About Being 'Lonely' Sound Even More Haunting

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 9:19am

As the biopic MICHAEL hits movie theaters nationwide, a revealing admission from Michael Jackson about feeling lonely at the peak of his unprecedented global fame shows the hidden cost of global success.

In a conversation with Rabbi Shmuley Boteach for the book The Michael Jackson Tapes, the King of Pop admitted that despite being looked upon as an entertainment icon, there were moments when he just wanted to feel like a regular person.

TODAY shared a transcript from these interviews in 2009. Jackson admitted to "walking the streets looking for someone to talk to."

"It was during the Thriller album. I was looking for people to talk to. I was so lonely I would cry in my room upstairs," the entertainer admitted.

"I would think, 'That’s it. I am getting out of here,' and I would walk down the street. I remember really saying to people, 'Will you be my friend?'”

He concluded, "They were like, 'Michael Jackson!' I would go, 'Oh God! Are they going to be my friend because of Michael Jackson? Or because of me?'"

"I just wanted someone to talk to. Already in this comment you could see the development of the two personalities that would forever collide in Michael’s person. There was Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, an aloof superstar who had everything and needed no one. And Michael Jackson, the shy kid under the mask, who lacked even a single real friend."

The 2009 book by Boteach was based on 30 hours of conversations recorded in 2000-2001. Jackson opened up about his loneliness, childhood trauma, strained relationship with his father, revealing his inner turmoil and spiritual views in his own words.

The feature film MICHAEL touches on Jackson's rise to the top of the entertainment world, and being crowned of King of Pop, showing the personal and professional sides of the entertainer. In a press release, the film's distribution company, Lionsgate, shared further details about what fans could expect from the highly-anticipated biopic.

"MICHAEL is the cinematic portrayal of the life and legacy of one of the most influential artists the world has ever known. The film tells the story of Michael Jackson’s life beyond the music, tracing his journey from the discovery of his extraordinary talent as the lead of The Jackson 5, to the visionary artist whose creative ambition fueled a relentless pursuit to become the biggest entertainer in the world," it began.

"Highlighting both his life off-stage and some of the most iconic performances from his early solo career, the film gives audiences a front-row seat to Michael Jackson as never before. This is where his story begins."

Twisty Film Based on 1995 Novel Ranked Among Best ‘Mysteries That Are Even Better the Second Time’

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 9:19am

Collider has just ranked the “8 Mystery Movies That Are Even Better the Second Time Around.” Making the list are classic films like The Usual Suspects, Shutter Island, The Sixth Sense, The Others, Magnolia, Rear Window, and 12 Monkeys. However, one of the most underrated movies came in third, the 2006 science fiction thriller, The Prestige.

This Christopher Nolan film is packed with twists, which make rewatching a second or third time just as much fun as the original viewing. The story follows two nineteenth-century stage magicians (played by Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale) who become bitter enemies after a tragedy occurs during a performance. There are also appearances by David Bowie, Michael Caine, and Scarlett Johansson.

The film, which is based on a 1995 book by Christopher Priest, has a 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. As one reviewer said, “When you discover the secret to a magic trick, all you want is to re-watch it and see if you can spot the illusion, so too does The Prestige demand repeat viewings.”

Another agreed with the sentiment. “Yes, the film is built on deceptions, and yes, it features a series of interconnected twists, but like all good movies and magic tricks, it doesn't lose any glory in a repeated performance or viewing, only gains it.”

Related: The Highly Anticipated Sequel to a Cult Classic ‘90s Movie Has Been Quietly Scrapped by Peacock

The film was nominated for two Academy Awards for Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction. It was also nominated for two Saturn Awards for the Best Science Fiction Film and Best Costume Design. However, its popularity has only grown over the years. Several outlets, including Empire and The A.V. Club, have ranked it as one of the greatest films of the 21st century.

Although there are many fans who prefer the film over the book, the original story won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for Fiction and the World Fantasy Award for Best Novel. As one reader said, “Really amazing. I thought I knew the real story based on the movie, but I was WRONG.” Another said, “I prefer the movie from Christopher Nolan, but still an entertaining and unique read.”
