As 'MICHAEL' Hits Theaters, Michael Jackson’s Own Words About Being 'Lonely' Sound Even More Haunting

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 9:19am

As the biopic MICHAEL hits movie theaters nationwide, a revealing admission from Michael Jackson about feeling lonely at the peak of his unprecedented global fame shows the hidden cost of global success.

In a conversation with Rabbi Shmuley Boteach for the book The Michael Jackson Tapes, the King of Pop admitted that despite being looked upon as an entertainment icon, there were moments when he just wanted to feel like a regular person.

TODAY shared a transcript from these interviews in 2009. Jackson admitted to "walking the streets looking for someone to talk to."

"It was during the Thriller album. I was looking for people to talk to. I was so lonely I would cry in my room upstairs," the entertainer admitted.

"I would think, 'That’s it. I am getting out of here,' and I would walk down the street. I remember really saying to people, 'Will you be my friend?'”

He concluded, "They were like, 'Michael Jackson!' I would go, 'Oh God! Are they going to be my friend because of Michael Jackson? Or because of me?'"

"I just wanted someone to talk to. Already in this comment you could see the development of the two personalities that would forever collide in Michael’s person. There was Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, an aloof superstar who had everything and needed no one. And Michael Jackson, the shy kid under the mask, who lacked even a single real friend."

The 2009 book by Boteach was based on 30 hours of conversations recorded in 2000-2001. Jackson opened up about his loneliness, childhood trauma, strained relationship with his father, revealing his inner turmoil and spiritual views in his own words.

The feature film MICHAEL touches on Jackson's rise to the top of the entertainment world, and being crowned of King of Pop, showing the personal and professional sides of the entertainer. In a press release, the film's distribution company, Lionsgate, shared further details about what fans could expect from the highly-anticipated biopic.

"MICHAEL is the cinematic portrayal of the life and legacy of one of the most influential artists the world has ever known. The film tells the story of Michael Jackson’s life beyond the music, tracing his journey from the discovery of his extraordinary talent as the lead of The Jackson 5, to the visionary artist whose creative ambition fueled a relentless pursuit to become the biggest entertainer in the world," it began.

"Highlighting both his life off-stage and some of the most iconic performances from his early solo career, the film gives audiences a front-row seat to Michael Jackson as never before. This is where his story begins."

MICHAEL is in theaters today.

Twisty Film Based on 1995 Novel Ranked Among Best ‘Mysteries That Are Even Better the Second Time’

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 9:19am

Collider has just ranked the “8 Mystery Movies That Are Even Better the Second Time Around.” Making the list are classic films like The Usual Suspects, Shutter Island, The Sixth Sense, The Others, Magnolia, Rear Window, and 12 Monkeys. However, one of the most underrated movies came in third, the 2006 science fiction thriller, The Prestige.

This Christopher Nolan film is packed with twists, which make rewatching a second or third time just as much fun as the original viewing. The story follows two nineteenth-century stage magicians (played by Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale) who become bitter enemies after a tragedy occurs during a performance. There are also appearances by David Bowie, Michael Caine, and Scarlett Johansson.

The film, which is based on a 1995 book by Christopher Priest, has a 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. As one reviewer said, “When you discover the secret to a magic trick, all you want is to re-watch it and see if you can spot the illusion, so too does The Prestige demand repeat viewings.”

Another agreed with the sentiment. “Yes, the film is built on deceptions, and yes, it features a series of interconnected twists, but like all good movies and magic tricks, it doesn't lose any glory in a repeated performance or viewing, only gains it.”

The film was nominated for two Academy Awards for Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction. It was also nominated for two Saturn Awards for the Best Science Fiction Film and Best Costume Design. However, its popularity has only grown over the years. Several outlets, including Empire and The A.V. Club, have ranked it as one of the greatest films of the 21st century.

Although there are many fans who prefer the film over the book, the original story won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for Fiction and the World Fantasy Award for Best Novel. As one reader said, “Really amazing. I thought I knew the real story based on the movie, but I was WRONG.” Another said, “I prefer the movie from Christopher Nolan, but still an entertaining and unique read.”

Jake Reiner Talks Grief in 1st Statement Since Rob, Michele's Deaths

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 9:14am

Jake Reiner, the eldest son of late filmmaker Rob Reiner and wife Michele Reiner, broke his silence for the first time since his parents' tragic deaths.

"A week from today will be my first birthday without my parents. I consider myself lucky to have had them by my side for the past 34 years," he shared via Instagram on Friday, April 24. "In the last four months, I’ve learned a lot about grief. I want to thank @iamdavidkessler, who has been instrumental in navigating the horrors of this process, as well as my family and friends."

View this post on Instagram

"I was robbed of so many things that day. My parents won’t be at my wedding, they won’t get to hold their future grandchild, and they won’t get to see me have the successful career I’m still seeking. It simultaneously breaks my heart and enrages me," Jake shared in a vulnerable Substack essay. "Nothing can prepare you for what it feels like to lose both parents instantly at the same time. It’s too devastating to comprehend. I still wake up every morning having to convince myself that, no, it’s not a dream. This truly is my living nightmare."

Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead inside their Brentwood, California, home on Sunday, December 14. It was later revealed that they had been slain to death.

Investigators later learned that the "A Few Good Men" director had been involved in a heated argument with his younger son, Nick Reiner, the prior evening at a holiday celebration at comedian Conan O'Brien's home.

Nick was located later that evening and taken into custody in connection with the deaths. He is facing two counts of first-degree murder.

During a February 23 court appearance, Nick pleaded not guilty.

"When you are not living through a tragedy the specific way Romy and I are, it’s hard to wrap your head around just how horrific this has been. Because they weren’t your parents, it might be easier to move forward or even forget for a moment about what happened that day, but for us, it’s every single day," Jake continued. "Every day since then has been horrendous. Every meeting we take, every person we talk to, every tear we shed, every movement we make is connected to our parents being murdered."

1980 ‘Sublime Ballad’ With Iconic Guitar Riff Became One of the Greatest in Rock History

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 9:14am

’Tis the season for cruising with the top down and blasting one of the greatest power ballads in rock history on repeat. But next time you cue up REO Speedwagon’s “Keep On Loving You,” consider this: The sublime hit was a double-edged sword, both shooting the Midwestern rockers to superstardom, but also costing them some of their most devoted fans.

That’s right, the same loyal following the gritty rock band built throughout the 1970s with Ridin’ the Storm Out (1973), Lost in a Dream (1974), and You Can Tune a Piano, but You Can’t Tuna Fish (1978) didn’t exactly keep on loving the softer ballad-driven turn that helped make REO Speedwagon a household name.

View this post on Instagram

“In the 1970s, we were the Midwest rock band everyone was rooting for in America,” frontman Kevin Cronin told Classic Rock for the outlet’s first issue ofAOR Magazine. “We were the ones who drove around in a banged-up van, and people were on our side and wanted to see us succeed. Then in 1981 we had a huge album withHi Infidelity, and you’d have thought all those fans who’d been willing us to get the breakthrough would have been delighted for us. Not a bit.”

Released in November 1980, Hi Infidelity was a massive success. It reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and produced four major hits, including “Take It on the Run,” “In Your Letter,” and “Don’t Let Him Go.” Released as the lead single, “Keep On Loving You” was REO’s first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Still, die-hard fans bailed on the band.

“We got a major backlash over here,” Cronin said. “People turned on us. It was as if they resented their big secret band suddenly being the property of the mainstream.”

Written by Cronin on his piano about his own tumultuous relationship, “Keep On Loving You” features an iconic guitar solo from Gary Richrath, another outspoken rock purist who absolutely hated the idea of recording a power ballad at first.

“We were in S.I.R. Rehearsal Studios in Los Angeles working on the material for Hi Infidelity and I kept pushing this song and getting nowhere,” Cronin shared. “In the end, Gary got so fed up that he plugged his Les Paul into two Marshall amps and delivered the nastiest solo he could in the song. I’m sure he wanted to piss me off, but the opposite happened. His solo made it come alive. It worked! And the rest is history.”

Perennial underdogs no longer, REO Speedwagon have sold more than 40 million records worldwide and produced 13 Top 40 hits in the U.S. alone. Despite the band officially calling it quits in January 2025, the guys still rock on, with some members reuniting for surprise concerts here and there.

“The audience also appreciate what we’re about,” Cronin said. “I honestly believe that those who might have deserted us when we had all those big hits have now ‘forgiven’ us.”

Two Cult-Favorite Regional Airlines Just Solved Your Biggest Travel Booking Problem

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 9:10am

We have all been there: trying to piece together a complicated itinerary, toggling between two different apps and praying the connection times actually work. But for fans of the West Coast and the islands, that "two-airline shuffle" is officially history. Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines have just hit a massive milestone by moving onto a single passenger platform—a move Ben Minicucci, CEO of Alaska Air Group, says is something "no other U.S. airline has done before."

View this post on Instagram The End of the "Double App" Headache

The real win for travelers is the launch of the unified Alaska Hawaiian mobile app. You can now manage your entire journey—from Seattle to Sydney or Honolulu to New York—with a single record locator. No more hunting through two different confirmation emails or checking two different apps for gate changes. The new system even lets you handle "self-service" tasks that used to require a phone call, like switching to an earlier flight on the same day or adding a lap child to your reservation.

Shared Lobbies and Free Sips

The "seamless" promise extends right into the terminal. The two carriers have started opening shared airport lobbies in major cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York-JFK. This means you won’t have to guess which terminal your connection is in; you’ll find both brands under one roof.

And for those who like a little "ho‘okipa" (hospitality) with their flight, there’s an extra treat: starting today, guests in Premium Class and elite loyalty members get complimentary alcohol on Hawaiian’s transpacific flights. It’s a "thank you" for your loyalty that makes that long-haul flight across the Pacific feel a little more like a vacation before you even touch down.

Your Points, Your Way

The most exciting "nugget" for reward seekers? You can now use your points (or a mix of cash and points) to book travel on over 30 global partners directly through the app. Whether you’re chasing Atmos Rewards or just trying to get the best value for your summer getaway, the "friction" of the merger has officially been removed, leaving you with more destinations and a lot less stress.

'Virgin River' Star Colin Lawrence Teases Major Season 8 Shake-Up for Preacher and Jack’s Future (Exclusive)

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 9:00am

One of the biggest cliffhangers heading out of Virgin River during Season 7 centers on Preacher (Colin Lawrence) and Jack’s (Martin Henderson) bar partnership – and whether it’s about to change for good.

After years of helping turn Jack’s bar into a culinary hotspot, Preacher is itching to branch out with a more elevated dining experience. Jack , however, is perfectly content keeping things casual.

The two have discussed a buyout, and the paperwork is ready. But nothing is signed, putting stress on a tight-knit relationship first forged when they served together in the U.S. Marines. So where does that leave them?

🎬SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

“Preacher and Jack have a true friendship, whether they see things eye-to-eye or not,” Lawrence exclusively told Parade. “I think rather than staying safe, I think that Preacher is ready for growth.”

That growth doesn’t necessarily mean walking away. Instead, Lawrence hints at a middle ground. “I don’t know if that means leaving the bar,” he said. “There’s going to have to be some kind of arrangement -- some kind of compromise -- so he’s allowed to grow.”

It’s a natural evolution for Preacher, who has long played the loyal right-hand man. “Now it’s time for him to explore what he’s capable of accomplishing on his own,” Lawrence added.

Preacher’s personal life is also heating up. His relationship with his fearless firefighter girlfriend, Kaia (Candyse McClure), came out of the gate quickly -- and is continuing to escalate. This time, Preacher is thinking long-term.

“He’s looking to settle down and start a family—with Kaia as the one,” Lawrence shared, while acknowledging his rocky romantic past. “I’m really hoping that it sticks this time.”

Fans have already seen his nurturing side, especially in his protective bond with Christopher, a young boy whose mom was in trouble, further cementing Preacher as one of the show’s most dependable figures.

“People tell me all the time that Preacher is the guy you want in your corner,” Lawrence said. “Everyone wants someone like him as a friend. He is the guy who always has your back. Loyalty, integrity, consistency -- that’s what people respond to.”

That warmth people feel for Preacher carries over into fan interactions as well. “People come up with open arms, eager for a warm hug,” he said. “They just embrace Preacher because of how he treats people.”

Much like his Virgin River character, Lawrence enjoys cooking – just with a bit more humility. “My kids will tell you that I call myself a culinary wizard,” he joked. “In the summer, I am on the grill making my signature BBQ ribs. In the winter, it's beef stew and broiled salmon.”

Related: ‘Virgin River’s Alexandra Breckenridge Drops Major Hint About Baby’s Fate After Devastating Season 7 Cliffhanger (Exclusive)

Another aspect of the series viewers noticed is that Season 7 didn’t hold back on shockers. Among them: Brady’s (Benjamin Hollingsworth) devastating motorcycle crash just as he rekindles his romance with Brie (Zibby Allen). “I love their story arc,” Lawrence said. “They bring so much to the show.”

One big emotional thread is the fate of the baby that Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack hope to adopt, following a critical heart surgery. “I’m excited to revisit that,” Lawrence said. “Maybe I’ll be babysitting. After all, Uncle Preacher has a nice ring to it.”

If there’s one thing Virgin River guarantees, it’s emotional twists. “We always surprise people,” Lawrence said. “There’s always going to be those twists and turns of what’s going to come next, and we always, always, always, have the best cliffhangers.”

Beyond the drama, he believes the show’s appeal is something deeper. “It’s an escape, it’s a respite from all of the chaos in the world,” Lawrence said.

“This is a small town where people care about each other. In a chaotic world, people crave that sense of community and a slower pace. We give people a moment that they need to sit back, relax, and unplug.”

With Season 8 now in production, fans can expect more heart, more surprises -- and perhaps a new path forward for Preacher that doesn’t mean leaving Jack behind.

Seasons 1-7 of Virgin River are streaming on Netflix. Season 8 is in production in Vancouver.

4 Birth Dates With the Most Introverted Souls

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 8:43am

Psychology Today defines introversion as "a basic personality style characterized by a preference for the inner life of the mind over the outer world of other people". Furthermore, introversion and extroversion are a spectrum; one is rarely strictly one or the other in all circumstances, but exists somewhere in between. Still, knowing whether someone identifies with one more than the other is helpful when navigating social situations and preferences.

Introverted souls tend to be reflective and highly aware of their surroundings. They can perceive emotional nuances that many people miss, making them more sensitive and compassionate. Although they may not be the most outgoing in a room, they focus on meaningful conversations and genuinely seek to understand others' inner selves. According to expert numerologists and astrologers, four birth dates stand out as the most likely to indicate an introverted soul. Read on to discover if your birth date is listed.

Which Birth Dates Are Introverted?

Check for your birth date. Disregard birth months.

Born on the 7th - Neptune

People born on the 7th are ruled by Neptune, the planet of ethereal daydreaming. These individuals enjoy escaping to their inner world to recharge from the overstimulation of daily life. For them, solitude is not often about loneliness; rather, it is an opportunity to connect with their true, innermost selves. Like energetic sponges, these sensitive souls often absorb emotions that aren't their own. Therefore, taking time to decompress through silence, art, or other emotionally restorative practices helps them return to their spiritually centered selves. They are devoted to their people, but they also understand the value of self-connection.

MORE: Which Houseplant Matches You, Based on Birth Month

Born on the 17th - Saturn

Saturn, the planet of rugged resilience, influences this birth date. Individuals born on this day tend to have strong personalities and high expectations. They find great value in spending time alone and often prefer to make decisions based on their own desires, without worrying about the responsibilities of caring for others. While they tend to develop meaningful, long-term relationships with friends and family, they also appreciate taking intentional time for themselves. From a young age, they often display maturity and understand that you can only give to others what you have first given to yourself.

Born on the 18th - Mars

Those born on the 18th aren't ones to say no to having a good time with fun company, but they also value moments of serious contemplation. Ruled by the warrior planet Mars, independence comes naturally to these trailblazers. A lifestyle filled with whims and superficial connections doesn't sit well with them. As justice-seekers and humanitarian souls, they prefer to wait for connections that offer similar depth. Self-awareness and intentional living are priorities. Their introversion helps them discern what aligns with their true values from what might distract them from pursuing their potential.

NEXT: The 4 Birth Dates With the Most Unbreakable Willpower

Born on the 22nd - Uranus

In numerology, 22 is a powerful "master number", known as the "master builder." Therefore, these people are the intentional architects of their reality. While they're capable of mixing and mingling, they prefer fewer, devoted relationships that will prove to stand the test of time. Those born on the 22nd aren't often influenced by fear of missing out. They are grounded in reasoning, making tough calls through careful analysis. They compare themselves only with their past, looking to foster a more promising future.

McConaughey opened up about parenting on the April 21 episode of Bear Grylls Is Running Wild. The star, who also has a 13-year-old son named Livingston, discussed how important parenting is, saying the "greatest art" a man can create is being a "good father to a son or a daughter."

"I think a man's a prince until he has children, then he becomes a king. I don't think there's anything more important that a man can do," he told Grylls. "In fact, man, we're mortal. That's the beginning of our immortality, and hopefully, we're lucky enough for them to have offspring, and it continues to pass that down. I think that's the greatest art that a man can make is being a good father to a son or a daughter."

Disney Is Releasing 3 Iconic Songs in American Sign Language—Including ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 8:24am

Three classic Disney songs are being reimagined to celebrate National Deaf History Month this April. A press release from Disney+ provided details about the animated musical sequences, which feature songs from Frozen 2, Moana 2, and Encanto. Those songs are “The Next Right Thing,” “Beyond,” and the iconic “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” which spent several weeks on the US Billboard Hot 100.

More than 20 animators worked on the project, which was directed by Disney animator Hyrum Osmond, who has a Deaf father. “In the majority of cases, we created entirely new animation,” he explained. “There were a lot of adjustments that we had to do within the animation to be true to the original intention.”

He went on to reveal his reasons for wanting to work on this project. “One, sign language is one of the most beautiful ways of communication on Earth,” he said. “If ever there was a medium to showcase sign language, it was animation. The other big reason for doing this project is to connect with the Deaf community. Growing up, I never learned sign language, and that barrier prevented me from really connecting with my dad. This reimagining of Disney Animation musical numbers helps bring down barriers and allows us to connect in a special way with our audiences in the Deaf community. I’m grateful that the Studio got behind making something so impactful.”

DJ Kurs, the artistic director for Deaf West Theatre, added, “When Hyrum approached me with a potential collaboration involving the integration of ASL into the fabric of Disney storytelling, it was an immediate ‘yes’ for us,” he said. “Disney stories are the universal language of childhood. The chance to bring our language into that world was a historic opportunity to reach a global audience. Working on this project was very emotional.”

The reimagined songs will be released on April 27. A special behind-the-scenes featurette will also be available to watch on Disney+, showing how the recreations were made, which reportedly required the team to focus more on concepts and emotion rather than word-for-word translations.

'Granny Is A Hippie': Meet The New Children’s Book Bringing '60s Cool To Kids This June

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 8:17am

The recent historical trend in children's books is facing a serious challenger this summer. While  nostalgia dominated nursery shelves for years, a new release from Little Gestalten aims to bring the loud, clashing reality of the '60s to a new generation.

GRANNY IS A HIPPIEarrives on June 30. Written by Claire Philip and illustrated by Vivi John, the book moves away from standard suburban narratives. It follows a child’s adventure at their grandmother’s house, but the setting is far from the typical retirement stereotype.

The story starts with a familiar premise: a day with Granny is anything but ordinary.

The book functions as a bridge between modern kids and the Haight-Ashbury era. It focuses on the mechanics of the hippie movement rather than just fashion. Readers follow the characters as they share meals in a big co-living community and explore a wardrobe filled with the most colorful outfits.

The narrative is built on the idea that "strangers are just friends you haven't met yet."

But the book stays grounded in history. It explores the origins of the '60s hippie movement. According to the publisher, the book aims to let children know the era was a period when people "protested against war and questioned societal rules in search of new ways to live together." It is an ambitious topic for a five-year-old, but the book handles it through action. The characters harvest fresh fruit in a community garden and join a peaceful march through the streets for civil rights.

Granny Is A Hippie, by Claire Philip (photo: Little Gestalten)

Little Gestalten

Pop culture enthusiasts will recognize the lasting impact of this era on modern living. The book shows how music and fashion emerged from a movement that remains vital today through values like freedom and solidarity.

This is more than a bedtime story. It includes several educational resources for parents and teachers:

  • A detailed timeline of the hippie movement.
  • A glossary of key terms.
  • A recipe for Mango Lassi.

The inclusion of the recipe offers children a hands-on way to engage with the culture. It moves the experience from the page to the kitchen.

The book serves as a celebration of the hippie spirit and its message of kindness. By focusing on Granny, the authors highlight how these values pass down through generations. It is a celebratory look at a movement that defined a decade and continues to influence how people view community and peace by being both a history lesson and a story

Jack Nicholson’s Daughter Just Shared Rare Photo From His 89th Birthday - You Won't Believe Who Was There!

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 8:14am

Jack Nicholson just turned 89, and his daughter Lorraine gave fans a rare glimpse of the famously private Hollywood legend celebrating his birthday with family and friends — including an unexpected guest who's been part of his life for over 50 years.

On Thursday, April 23, Lorraine Nicholson posted a series of photos to her Instagram Stories honoring her dad's birthday. The first was a throwback shot of the Something's Gotta Give star smoking a cigar, captioned simply "89?"

The second photo showed something more current and considerably more interesting: Jack smiling and clapping, with music legend Joni Mitchell visible in the background, clapping along. Lorraine's caption just got upgraded to an excited "89!!"

View this post on Instagram

For fans wondering what the heck connects a Hollywood icon to a folk music legend so closely that they attend each other’s intimate celebrations, the answer goes back decades to when both were at the height of their powers and living very different but equally legendary lives.

Why Was Joni Mitchell at Jack Nicholson's 89th Birthday Celebration?

Jack Nicholson and Joni Mitchell have known each other since the early 1970s, when Nicholson's star was rapidly rising following his breakthrough in Easy Rider and Mitchell was establishing herself as one of music's most important voices.

During that era, Nicholson also became famous not just for his acting abilities but for his legendary parties at his Mulholland Drive home in Beverly Hills. His neighbors included Marlon Brando and Warren Beatty, and that stretch of road earned the nickname "Bad Boy Drive" thanks to the constant celebrations taking place at all three houses.

Mitchell was among the many artists and celebrities who were a part of Nicholson's social circle during that wild decade. Their friendship became cemented in music history when Mitchell wrote a song called "People's Parties" on her 1974 album "Court and Spark," inspired by an actual party where Nicholson was present.

The song captured the chaos and emotion of those 1970s gatherings where Hollywood and the music world collided, with Mitchell documenting the scene with her keen observations.

More than 50 years later, that connection clearly endures. Seeing Mitchell smiling and clapping at Nicholson's 89th birthday celebration suggests their friendship survived long past those wild party days — evolving into something much more meaningful and lasting.

Lorraine's birthday tribute to her father follows a pattern of randomly sharing glimpses into the life of the notoriously private actor. In December 2024, she posted photos from another celebration, showing herself with Jack and her brother Ray.

Lorraine is one of Jack's six children. He shares her and son Ray, 34, with actress Rebecca Broussard.

For fans who rarely get to see the notoriously private three-time Oscar winner these days, Lorraine's photos offer reassurance: at 89, surrounded by family and old friends like Joni Mitchell, Jack Nicholson looks happy and still very much the charismatic presence he's always been.

Busch Gardens Is Building Its Largest Animal Habitat in a Decade

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 8:10am

If you have ever felt like the animal exhibits at major theme parks were a bit too "far away," Busch Gardens is about to change your perspective. The park has officially announced Lion & Hyena Ridge, its most significant animal habitat expansion in over ten years. Spanning nearly 35,000 square feet, this all-new experience is designed to be one of the most immersive habitats in the world, prioritizing both animal wellness and up-close guest encounters.

Up-Close and Personal with the Pride

The star of the show is the enhanced viewing area, which is engineered to create "unforgettable and up-close encounters" with two of Africa’s most fascinating species. The habitat will be home to a pride of five young male lions, alongside the park’s resident hyenas, Cazi and Dazi.

What makes this space unique is the "rotational" design. Unlike traditional enclosures, Lion & Hyena Ridge features multiple enrichment zones that allow the animals to explore and interact across the entire habitat. This intentional design supports the "physical, social, and mental well-being" of the animals, ensuring they remain active and engaged while guests watch them thrive in a space that mimics their natural environment.

Summer Fun Beyond the Ridge

The animal news is just the beginning of the park's 2026 summer lineup. Fans of the water park, Adventure Island, will see the return of AquaGlow, the popular separately ticketed after-hours event that turns the slides into a neon-lit party.

If you are planning to visit both parks, the timing is perfect to snag a "Fun Card," which currently allows guests to pay for less than a single day and enjoy unlimited admission to both Busch Gardens and Adventure Island through the end of 2026.

For those visiting before the summer rush, the Food, Wine & Garden Festival is still in full swing, running weekends through May 10. You can catch chart-topping concerts while sampling a curated menu of bites and beverages, making it the perfect way to spend a spring afternoon before the new ridge officially opens its gates.

Ivanka Trump Opens up About Her Mother Ivana, Calling Her a Trailblazer Who Did It All ‘In 5-Inch Heels’

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 8:01am

By all accounts, Ivanka Trump had a pretty idyllic childhood. In a recent interview on Steven Bartlett’s Diary of a CEO podcast, the First Daughter opens up about her parents (of course, as we all very much know, Ivana Trump and Donald Trump), her childhood, and the pivotal role her mother played in shaping who she is today.

When you think of Ivanka Trump, President Donald J. Trump comes to mind. And while her famous father certainly holds a major role in her life, he isn’t the only one in the family who has had a major impact. The mother of three (Arabella Rose Kushner, Joseph Frederick Kushner, and Theodore James Kushner) credits her own mother and grandmother as being instrumental figures in her life.

(Photo by Tom Gates/Pictorial Parade/Archive Photos/Getty Images) Ivanaka Trump On Her Mother Ivana

Ivana Trump was an icon in her time, embodying 1980s style. At a time when men dominated the boardroom, working their way up the corporate ladder, Ivana shattered the glass ceiling. And of course, as Ivanka says, she did it all in five-inch heels.

How did Ivana influence her daughter? Ivanka spoke candidly to Bartlett, revealing, “My mother was an incredible trailblazer. An amazing example for me of strength and resilience and glamour and determination and ambition. And she was a great mother, too.”

She continued, “So she showed me a lot at a time when you know not many women were doing what my mother was doing inside the boardroom and on the construction sites. So she made it look incredibly easy, but it was and continues to be very challenging to balance work and life like that, especially at a time where what she was doing was so singular. So she really, my mother served as an unbelievable role model for me, for what is possible. How to be an amazing mother who is loving and nurturing and fun and provides for her children and also to be unabashedly and doggedly pursuing one’s goals in a professional capacity.”

Like most working mothers, Ivanka realizes that it took a village to raise her (and her brothers, Donald Trump Jr.and Eric Trump). With this in mind, she explains, “But she would also say she couldn’t do it alone and she wasn’t pretending she could. So she surrounded us with people who loved us.”

Who Helped Raise Ivanka Trump?

While she credits her mother for being an “amazing mentor,” she also opened up about her grandmother. Affectionately known as “Babi,” Ivanka’s grandmother, Marie Zelnickova, had a major role in raising the Trump children. As she tears up, Ivanka says, “She taught me a type of unconditional love and tenderness…I have a lot of love for this woman.”

What Did Ivanka Say About Donald Trump and Her Childhood?

Even though her parents’ fame and money gave Ivanka advantages most children don’t have, her early years weren’t always easy. She notes, “I grew up the child of wealthy and accomplished parents. And so I do think there’s like a natural barrier that goes up. You’re worried about people, especially when you’re a kid, liking you for the wrong reasons. I see this now with my son. You know, he wants to be loved by his friends, and I appreciate that, that’s good for who he is, not for who we are, and certainly not for what we have.”

Michael Jackson At the Nutcracker?

Being the daughter of Donald Trump has always put Ivanka in a somewhat different position from other children. And she certainly knows it. The First Daughter recounted her experience as a young ballet dancer getting the chance to perform a small role in the Nutcracker.

At the time, Michael Jacksonwas living in Trump Tower. And like any other proud father, Donald Trump invited the pop star to watch his daughter dance. So what happened? According to Ivanka, it was kind of a disaster, “In retrospect, I could be like, wow, what a cool experience. But I was horrified…I was so embarrassed. I thought we had ruined the Nutcracker. Everyone was dancing with one glove…I had things like that happen that were so far from normal that it’s actually comical in retrospect.”

The show will follow eight influencers, including original cast member Mayci Neeley’s sisterMcCall DaPron and co-stars Bobbi Althoff, Aspyn Ovard, Avery Woods, Salomé Andrea, Chandler Higginson, Ashleigh Pease and Madison Bontempo.

The announcement comes as the flagship series prepares to resume filming its fifth season following an extended hiatus amid a domestic assault investigation involving Taylor Frankie Paul and ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen (prosecutors in Utah ultimately declined to file charges against either party).

With a new cast stepping in to keep the franchise fresh, here’s a guide to the next generation of SLOMW, including which of the stars are actually Mormon—because, weirdly enough, not all of them are.

Who is in the cast of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Orange CountyBobbi Althoff

Bobbi Althoff first made a name for herself on TikTok as a “momfluencer,” building a following with her dry, deadpan takes on motherhood. But she’s now best known for The Really Good Podcast, where she interviews celebs like Drake, Offset and Mark Cubanwith a healthy dose of sarcasm and awkward pauses.

View this post on Instagram

She also co-hosts That's BS with Bobbi & Suki alongside rapper Sukihana.

On the relationship front, she was married to Cory Althoff for four years before they finalized their divorce in 2024, and she’s now dating basketball player Tyler Hawkins. She also shares two kids with her ex, though she keeps them off social media for privacy reasons.

Madison Bontempo

The mom of five and her husband, Kyler Steven Fisher, have a YouTube channel, The FishFam, which has nearly 4.8 million followers as of this writing.

She’s also the founder of Wittles, “a chocolate milk-flavored powder made with essential ingredients, including vitamins, minerals, adaptogens, and superfoods,” per the brand’s website.

After Hulu announced Bontempo’s casting on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: OC, she wrote on Instagram, “I am going to bring my vulnerability & true authentic self and even with all the ups and downs that will come with anything in life, I’m going keep my foundation strong and continue to spread love and positivity.”

Aspyn Ovard

Aspyn Ovard started building her following in high school, posting lifestyle and beauty videos on YouTube and racking up millions of followers across social media platforms in the years that followed. For a long time, her feed also included content about her relationship with her now ex-husband, Parker Ferris, but in April 2024, she filed for divorce the same day she announced the birth of their third daughter. She’s since leaned into her “divorce era,” and after sharing with her followers that she was exploring her sexuality, she’s now in a relationship with a woman named Bri Davis.

Avery Woods

Before making the leap to full-time content creator in October 2023, Avery Woods was a pediatric ICU nurse (including during the pandemic) and later on, an aesthetic injector. These days, she’s known for her candid, unfiltered take on motherhood, lifestyle and fashion, which earned her more than 2 million followers on TikTok. She also hosts a podcast, Cheers! with Avery Woods, under Alex Cooper’s Unwell Network.

She and husband David Woods share two kids, plus she’s a stepmom to his two children from a previous relationship.

Responding to the news of her SLOWM casting on Instagram Stories, she said, “I’m excited for the long-form type content, and more realistic [medium]. Because short-form content is so edited, it’s hard to know who a human being is. I hope this reflects me positively.”

Salomé Andrea

Salomé Andrea has more than 1.6 million followers and counting across Instagram and TikTok, where she posts a mix of fashion, lifestyle and family content. She’s married to photographer/videographer Aaron Brimhall and the couple share twin daughters Luca and Rue.

View this post on Instagram Chandler Higginson

Higginson is a relative newbie to the influencer space, with a mere thousands of followers on social media. She and husband Dylan Higginson share three children.

“Went to bed last night overflowing with gratitude for this new adventure!” she wrote on Instagram. “I am excited to share a look into our life and do it with a group of powerhouse women by my side!!”

Like Higginson, Australian native and mom of four Ashleigh Pease is just getting her start on social media. It's safe to say her follower count is about to rise.

View this post on Instagram McCall DaPron

McCall Dapron is Mayci Neely’s older sister, making her the OC cast member with the strongest ties to the OG MomTok.

“I am feeling overwhelmed with support and love,” the mother of four shared on Instagram after the official launch of her show. “I can’t wait to take all of you on this journey with me.”

View this post on Instagram

Neely had her lookalike sister’s back in the comments, writing simply, “Yasssss🔥🔥”

Are any of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: OC cast actually Mormon? Is Bobbi Althoff Mormon?

No, Althoff is not a member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). She’s described her upbringing as “very Christian," but not specifically Mormon.

IsMadison Bontempo Mormon?

Yes. On the podcast Pretty Dirty with Alex Hall podcast, Bontempo talked about her Mormon faith and confirmed that she and her family attend church weekly. She also weighed in on the flagship series, saying she appreciated how it cleared up some of the misconceptions about Mormons being “polygamist cult members."

"People don't know a lot about our religion,” she said. “A lot of people didn't even know we believed in Jesus Christ, didn't even view us as Christians. I view myself the same as a lot of my Christian friends. We all just believe in Jesus Christ."

Is Aspyn Ovard Mormon?

Not really. Her dad was Mormon and she got baptized in the Church of Latter Day Saints, but she said on a March 2025 episode of the Girlscamp podcast that she did not consider the religion a “core piece” of her childhood.

Is Avery Woods Mormon?

Doesn’t sound like it. She said on a January 2024 episode of her podcast that she’s “never been a religious person.”

Is Salomé Andrea Mormon?

Yes, albeit a non-practicing one. She was raised in the faith by her mother, who converted from Catholicism, but does not follow the rules of the religion today.

"Here's the thing, I haven't been to church in I don't even know how long," she said on Avery Woods’ podcast. "But I don't like to come out and say, 'I am not Mormon,' because I'm like, I have my own relationship with God, so does Aaron. We don't go, we drink, we have tattoos, we do things that we 'shouldn't' in the church. But I still feel like I don't need to say I'm not Mormon."

Is Chandler Higginson Mormon?

Based on an Instagram post from April 2026, she believes in Jesus Christ, but it’s unclear whether she practices Mormonism in particular. Fans can presumably expect to learn more about her beliefs on the show.

Is Ashleigh Pease Mormon?

She hasn’t confirmed her faith, but it’s clear from her feed that she’s devoted to whatever religion she follows.

Is McCall DaPron Mormon?

Yes, and going by her Instagram feed, she appears to be a more traditional Mormon than her sister Mayci.

Is there a trailer for The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County

Not yet, but watch this space.

Will anyone from the original Mormon Wives cast be on the spinoff?

Hulu has not confirmed whether anyone from the flagship series will appear on the spinoff, but it's entirely possible. Neely in particular seems like a good crossover candidate given that she's related to DaPron. If they do appear onscreen together, good luck telling them apart!

New on Netflix (April 24-26, 2026)Funny AF with Kevin Hart (L-R) Keegan-Michael Key, Chelsea Handler, Kumail Nanjiani and Kevin Hart in 'Funny AF with Kevin Hart'

Ser Baffo/Netflix

Back during the big boom of reality TV in the early 2000s, Last Comic Standing brought forward a new concept: Could you do American Idol, but with stand-up comedians? The idea was bounced across several seasons and decades, but it's safe to say the entire comedy world — and how people get discovered — has entirely changed.

Enter Funny AF with Kevin Hart. Hosted by the titular funnyman, the new reality show sees Kevin Hart traveling the nation in search of "the next household name and voice of a generation.” Joined by fellow stand-up heavyweights Chelsea Handler,Keegan-Michael Key and Kumail Nanjiani, the goal is to pull people from all sorts of backgrounds with one shared talent: To make people laugh. But it's whoever makes them laugh the most who earns the win — and a Netflix special. While four episodes have aired so far, fans will get the chance on May 4 and 5 to vote live (a technology first rolled out during the streamer's reboot of Star Search) to figure out who will ultimately get the last laugh.

Running Point Season 2 Kate Hudson as Isla Gordon in 'Running Point'

We've officially reached the playoffs of the NBA season. But if you're looking to get an extra fix of hijinks both on and off the court, Running Point has returned for the second quarter. Created by Mindy Kaling and Ike Barinholtz, the misadventures continue for Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson) as another season begins for the Los Angeles Waves. After finishing one basket short of making it to the championship, does this ragtag team have what it takes to go the distance? Will anything become of Isla and coach Jay's (Jay Ellis) shocking kiss? And how do things look now that Isla's brother Cam (Justin Thoreux) is ready to take the team back again? Be sure to not leave this comedy's return on the bench!

Stranger Things: Tales from ‘85 'Stranger Things: Tales from '85'

Missing Stranger Things after it took its bow on New Year's Eve? Wanting to see more adventures in Hawkins without making these people in their 20s and 30s pretend to still be teenagers? Luckily, the first-ever Stranger Things spin-off has arrived! Tales from '85 takes place in the winter between Seasons 2 and 3, as our intrepid D&D party try to settle back into a relatively normal life. But when the snow on the ground soon gets splattered with supernatural blood and guts, they quickly learn that the Upside Down never sleeps.

Notably, Stranger Things: Tales from '85 is an animated series, with series creators the Duffer Brothers wanting to evoke the nostalgic Saturday morning cartoon atmosphere. While we'll of course be seeing plenty of Eleven, Mike, Dustin, Hopper and the gang, everyone has been entirely recast, featuring the voice talents of Janeane Garofalo, Jeremy Jordan, Lou Diamond Phillips and Robert Englund. Interestingly, the party will also take on their new mystery with a new character, punk rock transfer student Nikki Baxter (Marty Supreme star Odessa A'zion). Even if you haven't dipped your toes into the murky water of Stranger Things, Netflix has advertised this new series as a perfect entry point into the Upside Down, albeit one with much less gore and violence (but still plenty of sweet '80s nostalgia).

‘Outlander’ Author Diana Gabaldon Praises Key Season 8 Changes — Including Jamie’s Emotional Reunion (Exclusive)

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 8:00am

Last week, as regular readers of Outlander bestselling author Diana Gabaldon’s commentaries here on Parade know, we were harsh on Episode 7 because we felt the changes it made from her novels were just too different from the books.

But this week, Episode 8 of Season 8 added several things that weren’t in the books, and they were happy additions to the story created by Gabaldon.

Gabaldon feels Buck's return is 'invaluable' to Jamie

One of those was bringing Buck MacKenzie (Dairmaid Murtagh) to Fraser’ Ridge. Buck fits right in with the family, especially Jamie (Sam Heughan), and his return has served a purpose. He helped save Jamie from Captain Cunningham's (Kieran Bew) plot to get him hanged, he helps look after the young children, and now he's helping Jamie train the militia for the battle at Kings Mountain.

“I love Buck,” Gabaldon tells Parade. “So does everybody else--or they love Diarmaid. Both actor and character are immensely appealing; that's why he suddenly turned up (out of nowhere) in this season--they couldn't resist bringing him back, and I think that was a great decision.

“Aside from his personal appeal, Buck's filling the ‘Murtagh’ slot in the story--the invaluable person who's got Jamie's back and who can be trusted with valuable things, like small children. He can be wherever the Frasers need him to be: gathering information, delivering guns, carrying barrels of sauerkraut, etc. (I don't recall whether he actually did carry the sauerkraut, but I'm sure he would have, if he was present.)

And he is, after all, blood; he's Jamie's first cousin, though I don't think the show mentions that in this season. (We did hear about it last season, when Buck reproaches Roger [Richard Rankin] for not telling him that Dougal [Graham McTavish] was his father, when he (Buck) could have had a chance to tell Dougal that he loved him, as Roger had the chance to do for Jerry [Nicholas Ralph].)  And--totally coincidental--the actor's real name is Diarmaid Murtagh. (He's Irish, but then, so is Caitríona...).”

Gabaldon loved Jamie and William's reconciliation — even if it wasn't in the book

Also, just for the show: William (Charles Vandervaart) does turn to Jaime for help in locating the kidnapped Lord John (David Berry) at the end of Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, but what’s not in the book is the reconciliation of father and son on Fraser’s Ridge, when William ostensibly comes to visit Brianna, but ends up finally making peace with his father.  In fact, this was one of my favorite moments of the episode.

Of course, it doesn’t start off smoothly, and William gets angry at Jamie while they are fishing when they discuss Lord John. And he is about to leave when Claire (Caitríona Balfe) suggests to him that maybe he needs to reconsider. There is a war happening and Jamie, who will lead a militia, could die in battle. Does he want their fight to be their last interaction?

William takes this to heart and invites Jamie to go hunting and as they get ready to dress a deer that Jamie brought down, they finally have the talk they needed to have. As part of that, an especially nice touch was the Season 3 flashbacks to Helwater with William remembering the time he and Jamie, who he then knew as Mac, spent together when William was a young boy.

“I like William and Jamie together, too. Though this being show (rather than book), their rapprochement is pretty much instant," Gabaldon says. "In justice, it has to be if that loose end is to be tied up before the show ends, but it works. William's been through enough by now to have some perspective on things like being a bastard and having two fathers. (I don't think he's come to terms with the fact that his other father is gay--I totally didn't like that they did that in the last episode. But at least it's not getting in the way at the moment.)”

Brianna is locked and loaded

Then, it was also enjoyable to see Brianna (Sophie Skelton) get the opportunity to put her MIT mechanical engineering degree to good use by modifying the guns she and Roger brought back from Savannah for the battle at Kings Mountain. As much as Bree feels safer in the 1700s and enjoys being with her family, she is frustrated at times by the "women's" role she's forced to play.

“As to Brianna and guns...she feels good about being able to put her skills to work in an important cause; this is her father's (and husband's) life she's (hopefully) protecting," Gabaldon says. "She does like guns for their own sake, though; remember that Jamie taught her to shoot, way back in a previous season (don't recall which one...). She can hunt for the family, and her marksmanship definitely came in handy when she euthanized Steven Bonnet [Ed Speleers]."

Outlander will air new episodes each Friday at midnight ET on the STARZ app, all STARZ streaming and on-demand platforms; and at 8 p.m. ET/PT/7 Central on the linear network.
