Mike White says he hasn't heard from Christian Hubicki since being voted off Survivor 50—but now Hubicki is telling a different story.

White was voted off in episode 4 of season 50, which aired on March 18, while Hubicki was booted during the most recent episode on Wednesday, Apr. 22.

In his exclusive exit interview with Parade, The White Lotus creator said he and the robotics professor "[hadn 't] talked since the season." Hubicki, who starred on Survivor: David vs. Goliath with White in 2018, orchestrated his blindside.

However, in Hubicki's exit interview, he claimed that he did, in fact, reach out.

"I reached out to Mike as soon as I got back. I sent him a long message saying, 'You know why I did what I did.' Because I really wanted to work with him," Hubicki told Parade exclusively. "And I didn’t want him to think I was always planning to deceive him and get him out. So I gave him a really long message saying all the reasons that it happened. And also, I hated the fact that it got him, because I know he cared deeply about this game. He cares so much about Survivor, and to take him out of it, I knew it would hurt him."

"So I tried to give him every element of the explanation. So hopefully at some point, he absorbs that. And I hope someday he understands, and I’m hopeful that he will, because there certainly was no malice behind it," he added.

Also during his exit interview, White claimed Hubicki "was doing a lot of crazy stuff" on the island compared to their first season together—even alleging he made a preseason boot list.

"Sometimes I felt like, 'Oh, he’s doing this for attention, for the cameras or something,'" White said. "Because he’s pratfalling, he’s doing a lot of crazy antics. And so I was like, 'Maybe this is just him hamming it up for the cameras.'"

Hubicki, for his part, said he was unaware of White's allegations, but said he hopes "everyone knows that I respect everyone on that island in terms of my time I got to spend with them."

"I respect them as competitors," he said of White and fellow David vs. Goliath alum and season 50 castaway Angelina Keeley. "And I hope that one day we can really have a relationship with everyone on that island, them included."

While the U.S. version of The Office has the reputation of being one of the best sitcoms ever, the NBC comedy is not exactly known for its soundtrack. However, the hit 1986 song, "Everything She Does Is Magic" by The Police, was expertly used in Season 3, Episode 6 ("Phyllis' Wedding"), which aired in February 2007.

In the episode, Pam Beesly (Jenna Fischer) and Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) have a flirtatious conversation at Phyllis (Phyllis Smith) and Bob Vance's (Robert R. Shafer) wedding reception, despite the latter being in a relationship with Karen Filippelli (Rashida Jones). After Jim tells Pam her "dorky" dance moves are cute, he suggests to the camera crew that he'd "hypothetically" be interested in Pam again if she reciprocated his feelings.

Later at the reception, Jim and Karen dance while a heartbroken Pam watches on. After she leaves her table, her ex-fiancé, Roy (David Denman), offers her a dance. Jim sees them exit the wedding side-by-side, which greatly upsets him.

The scene then cuts to Karen happily singing "Everything She Does Is Magic" on stage with the wedding band. Jim appears to be happy, waving his phone as if it was a lighter. It's a devastating moment because Karen is oblivious to the fact that her boyfriend is masking his hurt feelings about another woman.

Fans of The Officeare aware that Karen and Jim's relationship was relatively short-lived. By the season 3 finale, Jim finally asks a delighted Pam to go out with him.

In a 2007 PaleyFest event, Jones said she was well aware many viewers of The Office didn't love Karen because she prevented Jim and Pam from getting together in season 3. The Parks and Recreation star said that she "was terrified" to join the show's cast as Jim's love interest for its third season because she "didn't know how people were going to respond to [her]."

"I was afraid I was going to go out and people were going to like launch eggs at my face and just not be psyched about me," said Jones.

She also shared that she had conflicting feelings about Jim's connection to Karen.

"I was a huge fan of the show before I was on it and like I was rooting for Pam and Jim. So, you know, it put me in a weird position, but because the writers are so good, you know, they made me likable," said the actress.

With Michael—the Antoine Fuqua-directed biographical film centered on pop superstar Michael Jackson—officially in theaters, MJ diehards and film fans alike have been wondering exactly which kind of biopic they're in for this time. And, perhaps more pressingly, they're questioning whether or not the film will dig into the darker parts of Jackson's gleaming musical legacy—one dulled by legal troubles, abuse allegations and more in the last few decades. (As for critics, they're already split about the film's chosen portrayal of the legendary singer.)

Is the 'Michael' movie based on a true story?

Yes, the bio-drama Michael is based on a true story, specifically the life and career of world-famous American singer Michael Jackson, chronicling the performer's professional highs and personal struggles across several decades. Directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, the Equalizer trilogy) and written by John Logan (Gladiator, The Aviator), the film was made in cooperation with the late Jackson's estate and even stars Michael's real-life nephew Jaafar Jackson as the eponymous entertainer.

Does the 'Michael' movie cover his whole life?

No, Michael does not span the entirety of Michael Jackson's life and instead spotlights the singer's early career. (For reference, Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana on August 29, 1958, and died at the age of 50 in Los Angeles, California on June 25, 2009.)

The biopic spans from the mid-1960s through the late 1980s, starting with Jackson's early days in The Jackson 5—the famous family band he performed in alongside his older siblingsJackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marlon Jackson, which was managed by their domineering dad Joe Jackson (portrayed in the film by Colman Domingo)—all the way through his 1987 world tour for his seventh studio album, Bad.

When does the 'Michael' movie take place?

Michael follows its titular star from his humble beginnings in Gary, Indiana in 1966 through his worldwide, mega-star fame as a solo artist in 1988. Child actor Juliano Krue Valdi portrays the young artist during the earlier segments, which include the group's signing with the seminal Motown label and recording such iconic tracks as "Never Can Say Goodbye," "Who's Lovin' You" and "I Want You Back." Along with those professional triumphs, the script also depicts the fraught family dynamics and abusive discipline Michael and his siblings faced at the hands of their father.

The drama also follows Jackson's meteoric rise to solo stardom in the late 1970s and early '80s, with film lead Jaafar Jackson recreating some of his uncle's iconic performances and other real-life moments throughout, including his big "Billie Jean" performance at the Motown 25 television special (during which MJ debuted his famous moonwalk) and the making of the "Thriller" music video. Michael ends in 1988 with Jackson at the height of his performing career and readying his historic first solo concert tour for the Bad album.

What does the 'Michael' movie leave out?

The film pointedly does not extend into the 1990s or 2000s, wholly sidestepping the legal troubles and child abuse scandal that would dominate the performer’s career and reputation from the early 1990s through to his death in June 2009. It doesn't include the 1993 sexual assault allegations from Jordan Chandler (which included a reported $23 million settlement and decades-long scrutiny into Jackson's personal behavior) nor his subsequent 2005 molestation trial related to Gavin Arvizo, where the performer was acquitted of all charges.

Outside of Jackson's numerous legal issues, Michael opts not to delve into several aspects of the late singer's personal life. But since the film ends in 1988, it naturally doesn't cover the later chapters of Jackson's life—including his marriage to Lisa Marie Presley in 1994, the birth of his children or his death in 2009. We also do not see any reference to his famous sisterJanet Jackson, who declined to participate in the project.

Critics have largely reproached the film team for its avoidance of Jackson's later controversies and its overall "sanitization" of the performer. For RogerEbert.com, Robert Daniel calls Michael "the first half of the Cliff Notes of the singer’s life" and overly controlled by his siblings, who serve as executive producers: "In every cloying moment, you can notice their fingerprints all over this plastic jukebox picture." The Telegraph's Robbie Collin added: "It is simply not credible for a film to claim to be about Michael Jackson without addressing, even obliquely, the accusations, controversies and sadness that dogged his later life," Collin said.

Even Michael's own daughter Paris Jackson has publicly spoken out against the biopic's "whitewashed" treatment of her famous dad. "It’s fantasy land. It’s not real but it’s sold to you as real and a lot is sugar-coated," she posted to her social media in September 2025, per the New York Post. "The narrative is being controlled and there’s a lot of inaccuracy and there’s a lot of just full-blown lies."

How accurate is the 'Michael' movie?

Though Michael the movie does faithfully touch on many uncomfortable realities from Jackson's life, including medical issues like vitiligo and his growing dependence on prescription medications following the 1984 Pepsi burn incident, there are glaring inaccuracies throughout.

For example, the film includes some prickliness over Jackson recording his solo record Off the Wall while still part of The Jackson 5, even though Michael had already released four solo studio albums by that time in real life. It also depicts entertainment lawyer John Branca (played by Miles Tellerin the film) firing Joe Jackson as Michael's manager during his solo-star ascent. This scene was simply added for dramatic effect.

Why was the 'Michael' movie pushed back?

The Michael biopic was pushed back from an October 2025 release date to its current premiere of April 24, 2026, due to post-production challenges and the need for additional reshoots, much of which was reportedly tied to Jackson's past legal troubles.

According to Puck reporter Matthew Belloni, the original Michael script did directly address the child-abuse allegations that had been made against Jackson beginning in the early 1990s; the film was reportedly set to open with a scene of police arriving at the performer's Neverland Ranch residence as part of investigations into the 1993 Jordan Chandler case and would continue to explore those allegations in the movie's third act.

However, due to a clause in the legal settlement made between Jackson and Chandler, which prohibited any film depiction of the latter, those plans had to be scrapped, and the production had to undergo expensive and extensive reshoots, requiring 22 days of additional shooting and costing upwards of $15 million, as reported by Variety.

Is 'Michael' getting a sequel?

A Michael sequel has not been formally announced; however, an end-credits moment has viewers wondering about a potential part two. Before the credits begin to roll, the screen goes black and then reads: “His story will continue.”

As for the actors, cast member Colman Domingo is down to reprise his role as Joe Jackson should the biopic get a follow-up. "There could be a sequel," the star teased during an interview on TODAY. "There's a possibility of there being a part two that may deal with some other things that happened afterward."

Shrek is back, 25 years later.

It was announced on Thursday that the iconic children's movie will be re-released in movie theaters across the nation to celebrate the film's 25th anniversary. Starring Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and John Lithgow, the film follows the titular character (Myers), who finds his home in the swamp overrun by creatures who were banned by Lord Darquaad (Lithgow). With the help of his best friend Donkey (Murphy), Shrek goes on an adventure and makes a pact with Farquaad to rescue Princess Fiona (Diaz) and his swamp.

Thanks to its major success during its release in 2001, it helped establish DreamWorks Animation as a competitor to Pixar in feature-length computer-animated films. Since then, three sequels have been released — Shrek 2, Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After, with Shrek 5 currently in development. In addition, two spin-off films for the character Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) were released in 2011 and 2022.

Shrek has become regarded as one of the most influential animated films of the 2000s and is even noted as one of the greatest animated films made. In 2020, the United States Library of Congress selected the movie to be preserved in the National Film Registry, making it the first animated film of the 21st century to be preserved.

"I'm so proud of this film, I'm so proud to be a part of it," Diaz said on The Ellen Show when she was promoting the sequel in 2004. "You know, I watched [Shrek 2] and I saw that the message was so timely, you know, talking about loving yourself and accepting yourself, and loving and accepting others...That's where happiness begins and you don't need anything outside of that."

Production for the first Shrek movie started in 1995 and was loosely based on the 1990 children's picture book Shrek! by William Steig. A year after the book was released, Steven Spielberg purchased the rights, but producer John H. Williams convinced the filmmaker to bring it to the newly founded DreamWorks Pictures. The title character was originally supposed to be voiced by comedian and Saturday Night Livealum Chris Farley, but he passed away in 1997.

When Shrek was released in theaters on May 18, 2001, it became the fourth highest-grossing film that year, and made over $492 million worldwide. Many critics praised the film for its animation, voice performances, soundtrack, writing and humor, which catered to all ages. In addition, the movie won many awards, including the BAFTA Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

Charlie Sheen has yet to reconnect with his Two and a Half Men co-star Jon Cryer since the release of his 2025 documentary.

Sheen's documentary, Aka Charlie Sheen, premiered on Netflix in Sept. 2025 in which Cryer was featured talking about his experience on the sitcom.

"Every time this comes up, I say I'm going to [reach out to him] and I never do," Sheen told Peopleon Wednesday, April 22 at a For Your Consideration in Los Angeles for the documentary. "Jon's a lovely man and a very talented guy."

During the panel, Sheen addressed Cryer not attending the FYC event despite being featured in the documentary.

"Jon's not here tonight, is he? No, he's a little grudgy like a decade and a half later. I'm like, 'Dude, what the f---? I got over it. What are we doing, Jon?'" he said.

Sheen continued, "No, but it was very sweet, very cool that everybody showed up like they did, because they could have easily said, 'Go f--- yourself. I'm not interested. I lived it. I don't need to talk about it again.' And I would have been, 'OK, that's fine.' But they didn't, and they stepped up."

Sheen also told people his feelings on being able to document his life story in both the documentary and his memoir The Book of Sheen.

"Relieved. It's documented, and I think told beautifully, visually and, hopefully, decently," he told the outlet. "And there's stuff in the book that's not in the doc and vice versa, because there are things I couldn't capture with the written word that [director Andrew Renzi] did visually, because some things you just have to see to feel it. And there were some stories I couldn't tell well enough on camera that I knew I could tell through my pen."

Sheen has been sober for eight years and expressed that he wouldn't have done the documentary or the memoir if he was still abusing alcohol and drugs. "I think it always sort of had a happy ending attached to it, regardless of where the story went," he said.

The story unfolds across dual worlds. The first involves a kid named Bastian, who hides away in his school’s attic during a storm to read a magical book called — you guessed it — The NeverEnding Story. As he reads, he’s pulled into world No. 2, aka Fantastica, a mythical realm slowly being swallowed by a dark force known as “The Nothing.” 

Saving the world falls to a young warrior named Atreyu, whose journey encounters unforgettable creatures, both kind and evil. There’s Falkor, the optimistic luckdragon, and Morla the Ancient One, the world-weary turtle with respiratory issues. And then there’s the Swamps of Sadness, setting to one of the most devastating moments in movie history involving Atreyu’s horse, Artax (this is where we fast-forward just a bit). 

Directed by Wolfgang Petersen, the film was a massive commercial success, banking around $100 million worldwide against a $25 million budget. According to Iconic Star Rewind, the German film also became one of the highest-grossing foreign-produced films in the U.S. at the time. 

Now, more than four decades later, The NeverEnding Story still resonates, not just as an epic fantasy but as a reminder of how powerful imagination, hope, and storytelling can be.

King was inspired to write The Shining in part after a stay with his wife, Tabitha, at The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. Upon checking into the hotel in 1974, King and his wife found themselves to be the only guests on the property. After Tabitha went to bed, King wandered the empty halls of The Stanley, eventually ending up in the bar and having drinks with the bartender. By the end of the evening, King had the full story of what would become The Shining planned in his mind.

What is The Shining about?

Set at the fictional Overlook Hotel, The Shiningfollows the Jack Torrance, a recovering alcoholic a struggling writer who accepts a position as the off-season caretaker of the historic landmark. His family comprised of his wife, Wendy, and young son, Danny, accompany him on this job in the remote Colorado Rockies. Slowly but surely Danny's psychic abilities, called "the shining," begin to reveal to him the true sinister and horrific nature of the Overlook. After a massive storm leaves the family snowed in, the dark forces that call the hotel home latch onto Jack, leaving Wendy and Danny in grave danger as they try to survive both the patriarch of their family and the Overlook itself.

What is Stephen King working on now?

Stephen King's most recent book, Never Flinch, was published May 27, 2025. His next novel, Other Worlds Than These, will be published on October 6th, 2026. The highly anticipated Mike Flanagan adaptation of Carrie is also on track to release this fall.

As the battle against artificial colors and flavors ramps up, Aldi has announced that it will make necessary changes to its products. 

The discount grocer, which already boasts the Simply Nature line that's free of artificial colors and flavors, will remove an additional 44 artificial preservatives, colors, flavors and sweeteners from its store-brand products.

The announcement noted that the change will impact the private label, along with vitamin and supplement products.

The rollout is expected to be fully implemented by Dec. 2027, with the reformulated products rolling out across the year. 

The move will increase the restricted ingredients list from 13 to 57.

“At the heart of our private label products is a commitment to listening to our customers and continually improving the products they bring into their homes,” said Scott Patton, Chief Commercial Officer, in the statement.

“Based directly on customer feedback, we are proud to take meaningful steps to make it even easier for families to fill their carts with confidence by delivering simpler ingredients while continuing to provide the quality and value they expect from ALDI.”

The German retailer’s decision builds on the removal of 13 ingredients more than 10 years ago, when it became the first national grocery to eliminate certified synthetic colors from its exclusive products in 2015.

Building on that legacy, Aldi revealed a list of ingredients that will be phased out, including synthetic antioxidants used as preservatives like BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole), BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene), and Potassium nitrate, the oxidizing agent Bromated Flour, the whitening agent to make foods brighter, Titanium dioxide, and many more. “These ingredients will no longer be permitted in any ALDI private label food product, either as a direct ingredient or as part of a composite ingredient,” the fast-growing grocer noted.

Earlier this year, Target announced it was making an “industry-leading move” as one of the first national retailers to carry only cereals made without certified synthetic colors.

Additionally, PepsiCo revealed the removal of artificial colors and flavors from its portfolio of brands, including Doritos, Cheetos and Tostitos with the “Simply NKD” line, while Mars Inc. officially removed the controversial additive titanium dioxide from its Skittles lineup in 2025.

Whenever I hear about a city or region where younger adults are struggling to succeed, I can't help but wonder whether the opposite is true: retirees are actually thriving. Take, for example, a new report from a major New England city that found that nearly half of the 20- to 30-year-olds surveyed plan to leave the city within the next five years.

According to a 2026 Young Residents Survey, 26 percent of people in their 20s and 30s says they plan to leave the city of Boston in the next five years. The survey was commissioned by the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce and echoes the findings of a 2023 survey.

According to the new report, the people surveyed said that the most important factors influencing the mass exodus include:

• 79 percent cited job availability 
• 78 percent cited the cost of rent
• 79 percent cited safety
• 72 percent cited the ability to buy a home

Considering that the MIT Living Wage Calculator says that a single adult needs to make a minimum of $32.46 an hour to afford to live in Boston and the surrounding area, and Zip Recruiter says that the average hourly rate is just $23.08, it seems clear why younger people are finding it hard to build a life in Bean Town.

Is Boston a Good Place for Retirees

So, while a lot of that is obviously negative for those just starting out, it seems like the opposite must be true. And according to 55 Places, Boston does have a lot going for it when it comes to senior living.

For example, the city offers plenty of activities every day, so retirees with a bit more time on their hands will never get bored. That includes a collection of some of the world's best universities, which would be great for retirees looking to further their education or simply learn something new.

Additionally, many neighborhoods in Boston are walkable, allowing those who want to ditch their cars to still get around with ease. Not only that, but the city has a pretty robust mass transit system that will make it easier to head outside of your neighborhood as well.

And some of those biggest pain points for younger people, like jobs and the ability to buy a home, aren't exactly priorities for retirees since many of them likely already own a home and are no longer part of the job market. That said, 55 Places notes that the city is expensive, and the cost of living is high for those still looking for a home or renting, which means you'll need to weigh the pros and cons carefully before deciding to make a move.

The Social Security Administration Changed How Benefits Are Calculated

According to NJ.com, the SSA has changed the way it calculates Social Security benefits for widows and divorced spouses, specifically for those whose spouses worked in the public sector but didn't always pay Social Security taxes.

The publication says that this arrangement previously left a gap in the calculation for these specific couples, since one may have been paying into the agency's account while the other may not have been, specifically in cases where the spouse working in the public sector also received a pension.

Before this change was implemented, these folks were often left out in the cold when it came time to determine their benefit amounts, and they either ended up with a reduced payment...or no benefits at all. Now, the SSA has done away with the restrictions on those whose spouses received a pension, resulting in either a higher monthly payout or a lump-sum payment.

What to do if You Think You Should See Money as a Result of This Change

Think you may be entitled to more money thanks to this rule change? Well, there's good news, the SSA says that most people will automatically see the funds hit their accounts or their monthly payments as the change is implemented. In fact, some have already likely received their money.

If you have not yet seen a change in your payment and you think you may be entitled to one, you'll need to contact your local Social Security office to find out. Of course, some local offices are currently closed or experiencing disruptions. So, you'll want to check the SSA's website first to see if your state is among those experiencing delays. If so, your second-best option will be to call the SSA's national number to speak with a remote agent, who can also answer your questions about this change to the pension calculation.

Just be warned: if you do need to call in, you may face longer wait times, as several states have reported disruptions to in-person office hours, so more people than usual may be trying to reach the administration by phone. That being said, spending a little extra time on hold may be well worth it if you're among those who are expected to receive the higher end of this payout, which could dramatically impact your finances moving forward.

Since the start of cinema, audiences have been treated to several films that have continued to delight and astound. In February 2026, the publication Collidercompiled a list of the top 20 movie masterpieces released after 1926. The list featured acclaimed films, such as Metropolis from 1927, 1966's Persona, Citizen Kane from 1941, and 1994's Pulp Fiction. The top five ranking included Lawrence of Arabia from 1962, 1985's Ran, 2001: A Space Odyssey from 1968, and The Godfather from 1972.

Andrei Rublev, released in 1966, topped Collider's list. The publication explained that iconic director Andrei Tarkovsky's second film should be recognized as the top masterpiece because of the movie's striking aesthetic and transformative nature.

Andrei Rublev, which has a 2-hour and 45-minute runtime, has a score of 96 on Rotten Tomatoes.

Tarkovsky discussed Andrei Rublevin a 1967 interview with Russian film critic Aleksandr Lipkov. He noted that the film follows Russian artist Andrei Rublev, who lived in the medieval period. Tarkovsky explained he and his Andrei Rublev co-writer, Andrei Konchalovsky, "were able to construct our story freely to imagine Rublev's biography without fear of complicating our relationships with historians and art historians" because there is a "lack of any firm information about our protagonist."

"They can't prove to us their objections to our depiction of Andrei. And, by contrast, if the facts of his life were known in detail, no one would forgive us the violation of historical truth," said Tarkovsky.

During the interview, Lipkov asked Tarkovsky to comment on how future viewers, specifically from "the year 2200," should "approach the film." Tarkovsky replied that he and his crew attempted "in 1966 to make a picture as close as possible to history, as accurate as possible in terms of costumes and other such accessories of the age, with the sole exception of the dialogue."

"I hope that intelligent and educated people will live then, they will understand that this is a work of art, and will not make the kind of demands that we are subjected to today," said the director, who died in 1986 when he was 54.

Charlie Sheen's time in the Hollywood spotlight led to some career highs and lows that were addressed in his two-part Netflix documentary, aka Charlie Sheen. The actor comes clean on why his father, Martin Sheen, and his actor brother, Emilio Estevez, decided to reject appearing in the project.

The Two and a Half Men star's wild years were on full display with stories told from the perspective of fellow stars, friends, colleagues, and family members. Actors like Sean Penn and Denise Richards lent their time to tell stories of Sheen. The actor admitted at a panel, according to People, that both his father and brother watched the documentary before it officially aired and unanimously decided they didn't need to be included.

"[Martin] saw it and loved it and was just, he was laughing, he was crying, he was so engaged and he comes up to me afterwards and says, 'I'm already in it. I'd much rather be young, handsome in this thing than this guy right now, you don't need this old guy in your movie,'" explained Sheen.

While Sheen begged to differ about his father's sentiment, it was also the first time the family had gotten together to watch the documentary. When it came to Estevez, director Andrew Renzi explained that The Breakfast Club actor simply wanted the spotlight to be on his brother.

"He wanted Charlie to have the project," Renzi said. "...It was just Charlie's moment and we were in it."

Sheen chimed in, saying that his brother also felt they were his stories to tell and bring to light. Renzi also added that part of the reasoning why Estevez and his family decided not to appear was because Charlie's stories have been well documented. During the height of Sheen's infamy in Hollywood, there wasn't a news or media outlet that didn't report on the actor. Many would agree that he was on the cover of a tabloid magazine every week.

"If I'm putting myself in their shoes without them saying this directly to me, this is their life that they've lived for a long time and there was probably going to be a whole bunch of crap that they just didn't want to have to sit there and have to talk about," the director said.

In return, Martin also surprised Renzi by saying something that he will "always respect" in terms of "just him being a father." Martin warned Renzi that one of his reasons for staying out of the film was because, "'...If this goes sideways, I need to be able to stand beside my son because I always have. And if I'm in this thing, I can't, because I will have been complicit in this thing that you created.'"

Sheen has been sober for several years, with aka Charlie Sheen documenting his childhood in Hollywood, becoming a mega star, to the darkest moments of his drug addiction, and sobriety.

When it comes to horror books, we know that we can turn to Stephen King. He is the master of the genre, and plenty of his work has been adapted into movies. However, not all have been well-received, and King isn’t afraid to share what he thinks.

That being said, when something is faithful and good, King is also not silent with his praise. It probably isn’t that surprising to find out that The Green Mile, which was released in 1999, is one of his favorite adaptations — and it is considered one of the best adaptations of his work by movie lovers, as well!

‘The Green Mile’ Is Faithful to the Source Material

King quickly praised the movie, sharing that it was “the single most faithful adaptation of his work.” The 1999 movie was based on the novel of the same name, released in 1996. It ranks as the No. 2 favorite on IMDb, with The Shawshank Redemption just ahead of it. Interestingly enough, the No. 1 pick is also a favorite of King, as another that was faithful to the book.

The success of the two movies shouldn’t be that surprising. They are both directed by Frank Darabont, and Tom Hanks joined The Green Mile as a favor for not being available to star in The Shawshank Redemption as Darabont wanted — he was a little busy with another movie-based-on-a-book!

King shared that the casting and tone of The Green Mile was everything the movie needed to be, capturing the heart of the novel. There’s no doubt that it captured the heart of fans, and like many of us, King adored Michael Clarke Duncan as John Coffey.

When it comes to changes to his novels, King is usually against them. Most people will know that despite The Shining being one of horror movie fans’ favorite novels, it’s not a favorite of King’s due to the way the source material was reworked.

However, changes sometimes have to happen to condense the storyline into a movie. Darabont managed to effectively do that, keeping the soul of the story while cutting out elements of the tale. King even sat in “Old Sparky,” the electric chair, adding another layer of eeriness to his experience.

The source material is relatively long, as well, so it's not surprising that changes needed to be made. It was originally published as six volumes before it was repackaged as one novel. It's not easy to fit almost 600 pages into a two-hour movie.

There are three things guaranteed in the world today: Death, taxes, and Jeopardy! being on. Believe it or not, the iconic game show has been on the air for over 60 years (though the modern incarnation we know and love technically debuted in 1984). Under the watchful eye of Ken Jennings (who himself was a record-breaking champion), Jeopardy! puts three people's trivia skills and reflexes to the ultimate test. And so many of the greats to grace those podiums started by simply watching the show as it aired on weekdays, as millions have done for over half a century.

The bureaucrat and law student from Lawrenceville, New Jersey, is becoming one of the most compelling champions in the show's six-decade history. On Friday morning, he appeared live onGood Morning America, reflecting on his 30th win from the night before. "I mean, nobody goes in planning to win 30 games, only a complete egomaniac would do that," he joked, per Detroit News, adding, "I entertained the possibility, it's nice to dream big, but that it's actually happened is amazing."

Ding added $33,002 on Friday, for a total of $882,605 across 31 days of gameplay.

What was Final Jeopardy today?

Final Jeopardy today was in the category "The Literary Year."

Ding built himself a nice runway going into Final Jeopardy, and though he got the answer wrong, he only wagered $198, ending the week with a total of $33,002. Only Pollock answered correctly, wagering $1,000 to end in second place with $7,600, while Martinez ended in third place with $400.

Ding will return to the Alex Trebek Stage on Monday to go for win number 32, which would tie him with Holzhauer.

RyanGosling’s infectious laughter became contagious during his most recentSaturday Night Live episode.

The Project Hail Mary star joined SNL cast member AshleyPadilla in the “Passing Notes” sketch. The pair played a principal and a teacher who catch students passing notes. They scold the classroom by reading them out loud. The notes' contents had been changed for the live show, and the actors couldn’t hold back their laughter.

“I, of course, afterwards was terrified that I would lose my job entirely. But I think it was celebrated.” Padilla told Deadline on April 22.

LorneMichaels, the long-running series’ creator and current producer, is known to disapprove of cast members breaking character. But when Gosling is involved, the comedy show’s boss has different rules. 

“I did not get yelled [at] after that,” said Padilla. “Lorne said to me, ‘This show takes on Ryan’s spirit.’ Ryan shows up, and he goes, ‘This is mine in a way that’s enlightening,’ and it made me have fun and loosen up. I did not get in trouble; it was celebrated.”

Padilla wrote the sketch with StreeterSeidell, MikeyDay, and AlisonGates for Gosling’s March 7 episode. She told them, “You guys write the notes and see if you could make me break essentially.”

Her fellow writers took her request seriously. “They succeeded,” Padilla conceded.

“Passing Notes” wasn’t the only time the actress broke Michaels’ cardinal rule.

In the sketch “Cyclops,” Gosling played one of the three feebleminded cyclops attempting to access a hidden treasure that Padilla’s character protected.  

“I was trying very hard not to break in the show because I didn’t want to get in trouble. But then ‘Cyclops’ happened,” she said.

Padilla joined Saturday Night Live in 2024 and has become a breakout star. Before the late-night comedy show, she was a member of The Groundlings, a Los Angeles-based sketch and improv group, and the assistant to actress DianeKeaton.

Many music fans will agreed hits like "Take It Easy" by the Eagles, ABBA's "Dancing Queen," and "Immigrant Song" by Led Zeppelin, are quintessential songs from the 1970s. However, there are plenty of other songs released in the decade that had a massive impact. For instance, American Songwriter recently released a list of three songs that "defined the 1970s without being the obvious picks."

The list, published on April 22, included overlooked songs like Bread's 1970 "Made It With You," "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out" by Bruce Springsteen, released in 1975, and 1972's "Cold, Cold, Cold" by Little Feat.

American Songwriter reported that Little Feat's "Cold, Cold, Cold," off the band's record Sailin' Shoes, deserved recognition as a key '70s song because it is artistic, innovative, and appreciated by other top musicians.

The Band's Drummer, Richie Hayward, Shared Information About 'Cold, Cold, Cold' in 1988

In a 1988 interview with Modern Drummer Magazine, the drummer of Little Feat, Richie Hayward, noted that "Cold, Cold, Cold" had a unique time signature. Hayward, who died in 2010 at the age of 64, explained that the band's guitarist, Lowell George, had been using a drum machine when first working on the song.

"The odd 2/4 bars in 'Cold, Cold, Cold' came about in a strange way. Lowell had been playing with his drum machine at home. At that time, drum machines were very primitive. It was just a little red box with two knobs on it. He had the basic pattern repeated over and over again, and he played it with just himself and a little amplifier on a cassette at home," recalled the late drummer in the interview.

According to Hayward, George, who died in 1979, "edited the cassette, put it on a 16-track tape," and requested him to "overdub drums."

"It’s funny because this drum part was turned around a couple of times due to the way he cut it together to fit. He wanted me to copy it and throw in fills. That’s on Sailin’ Shoes. On the first part you can hear the machine," said Hayward to Modern Drummer Magazine.

There is plenty of hype about Practical Magic 2. This is one of those sequels many fans have asked for, and it’s almost here. However, there’s another treat in store for the book fans. Yes, Practical Magic was a book first.

The 1995 novel is going to get a deluxe edition, and it’s coming out ahead of the movie sequel’s release. This is more than just another movie tie-in cover, and it’s a way to bring the nostalgia of the original story.

Head Back to the Original Story of ‘Practical Magic’

While we get ready for the sequel, it’s time to head back to the original story. Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman told the story of the Owens family, who have always been blamed for anything that has gone wrong in their Massachusetts town for the last 200 years. Sisters Gillian and Sally have just had to deal with the gossiping and the taunting.

When they decide they’ve had enough, they find a way to escape it all. One marries, while the other runs away. However, they soon both find that they can’t run away from their destiny, which there’s something magical about.

There was a second novel, The Book of Magic, published in 2021, which brought another story of the Owens family. It’s more than just a continuation of Sally and Gillian’s story from the first novel. We get some familiar faces, but there are also new members of the Owens family, all dealing with their own journeys, curses, and more.
