Who Does Nathan Eliminate in Week 1 of 'Farmer Wants a Wife' Season 2?

Fri, 02/02/2024 - 2:02am

The Season 2 premiere of Farmer Wants a Wife saw four bachelors go on speed dates with eight women each to figure out which five ladies (per guy!) they wanted to take back to their respective farms.

Among the single-and-ready-to-mingle cowboys is fourth-generation citrus and cattle farmer Nathan Smothers. "I think I’m a lot more mature than a lot of people my age," the 23-year-old said in the Season 2 premiere. "My dad passed away when I was 12. …It’s kind of made me into the man I am today."

Here's who the Bartow, Florida native eliminated from his list of potential suitors.

Who Does Nathan Eliminate in Week 1 of Farmer Wants a Wife Season 2?Destiny

Occupation: Cheer Coach
Location: Los Angeles, CA

Is it any wonder Nathan got rid of Destiny? She immediately told him she was a vegan! "How would that work?” the cattle farmer asked. Fair point!

Michael Becker / FOX

Kiara

Occupation: Youth Development Worker
Location: Tracy, CA

The FWAW editors only included Kiara as part of a speed-dating montage, so we know very little about her or why Nathan let her go. Maybe she's an investor in Beyond Burger.

Michael Becker / FOX

Lexie

Occupation: Dog Daycare Owner
Location: Waycross, GA

Lexie was won over by Nathan and his "big smile," but the feelings were not mutual. She got the (cowboy) boot.

Who Does Nathan Pick on 'Farmer Wants a Wife' Season 2?

Fri, 02/02/2024 - 1:06am

At 23 years old, Nathan Smothers is the youngest of the Farmer Wants a Wife Season 2 bachelors. But don't write him off as "too young" just yet. "Honestly, I think I’m a lot more mature than a lot of people my age," the fourth-generation citrus and cattle farmer shared in the premiere. "My dad passed away when I was 12. …It’s kind of made me into the man I am today."

Read on to find out who Farmer Nathan picked to join him on his farm in Bartow, Florida, and who he might take all the way to the altar.

Who Does Nathan Smothers Pick on Farmer Wants a Wife Season 2?

Only the premiere has aired so far, so we don't know who Nathan picks to go the distance with. But below are the five women who are still in the running.

Allye

Occupation: Digital Marketing Specialist
Location: Tucson, AZ

Allye spent the bulk of her airtime in the premiere saying, “I’ve never been on a farm before, so I’m just excited to get dirty. I’m ready for it.” Which makes it hard to understand what Nathan saw in her over, say, Lexie. But maybe Allye will shine in next week's episode.

Michael Becker / FOX

Makenzie

Occupation: Registered Nurse
Location: Morrow, OH

This is Makenzie's competition to lose. The OB nurse, who said she gravitated towards Nathan "because of his smile and what he said about his family values," seems genuinely drawn to the life Nathan has to offer her as opposed to just curious about it. "I love my job but in the future I would want to transition into that stay-at-home role," she told him on their speed date. She also conceded that she might be able to birth a calf, which the producers will make happen if they're any good at their jobs.

Michael Becker / FOX

Kristin

Occupation: Hair Stylist
Location: Roseville, CA

We don't know a ton about Kristin yet, but she complimented Nathan's hair, so she made the cut (get it?).

Michael Becker / FOX

Rachel

Occupation: Marketing / Public Relations
Location: Houston, TX

Rachel is a relative mystery. If it weren't for her curls, some might even mistake her for Taylor (below).

Michael Becker / FOX

Taylor

Occupation: Hair Stylist
Location: Dallas, TX

Taylor's big moment came when she showed Nathan how to golf—a move that required a lot of physical contact. (How much do you wanna bet Taylor has never picked up a golf club in her life? We're onto her!)

Who Does Mitchell Pick on 'Farmer Wants a Wife' Season 2?

Thu, 02/01/2024 - 10:35pm

Unlike his two brothers, Mitchell Kolinsky isn't interested in pursuing a white-collar job. Instead, the Farmer Wants a Wife Season 2 bachelor recently bought a plot of land just outside of Nashville and became a first-generation farmer. Now, he's ready to find a woman to share his life with.

Read on to see which ladies are currently in the running for his heart (and what sort of first impressions they made).

Related: Everything to Know About 'Farmer Wants a Wife' Season 2

Who Does Mitchell Kolinsky Pick on 'Farmer Wants a Wife' Season 2?

We don't know yet, but here are the five women headed to the farm after the Season 2 premiere.

Sydney

Occupation: Construction Worker
Location: Sweetwater, NJ

Sydney came to win. "I want to find love and I want a man I can spend the rest of my life with. I didn’t wear a white dress for nothing," she said at the start of the Season 2 premiere.

Her laser-focused approach was front-and-center on her speed date with Mitchell, during which she told him about how she works construction and can operate a skid steer. "I’m a big outdoors gal," she said, laying it on thick. "I want someone to fish with. I want someone to wake up early and hunt with me."

After they felt each other's callouses, the two went their separate ways and sang each other's praises. “Farmer Mitchell was so dreamy," Sydney swooned. "I think we’d be really good together. We’re so alike."

Related: Who Does Mitchell Eliminate in Week 1?

Michael Becker / FOX

Brittany

Occupation: Model
Location: Thousand Oaks, CA

We don't know a ton about Brittany just yet, but we do know she's quick on her toes. When Mitchell asked her if she knows how to feed a horse, she said, "Though its mouth?" She's not wrong!

Michael Becker / FOX

Kait

Occupation: Social Media Coordinator
Location: Los Angeles, CA

Kait didn't get much airtime this week either. But, hey, pretty earrings!

Michael Becker / FOX

Kiana

Occupation: Dog Trainer
Location: Hermosa Beach, CA

Kiana is arguably the frontrunner of the bunch, and the winner of the first one-on-one date (much to Sydney's horror).

"Honestly, nothing really scares me," she told Mitchell on their speed date. "I’m kind of down for everything, especially if I’m in love.” She went on to confirm that she's more than ready for romance. “I’ve never felt more confident and comfortable in myself, and where I’m at right now.”

Her poise impressed Mitchell, who said he can tell she has a “really good head on [her] shoulders” and that he “respect[s] her maturity.” Nobody tell Sydney!

Michael Becker / FOX

Melanie

Occupation: Bottle Service
Location: Scottsdale, AZ

As Mitchell pointed out, Melanie's eyes match her dress—and that's the extent of what we know about her so far. Hopefully we learn more next week.

'SVU' Star to Appear on Next Week's 'Organized Crime': See the Promo

Blink and you may have missed him in the promo for next week's episode of Law & Order: Organized Crime ("The Last Supper"). But surely you heard his voice, right? On the off chance you didn't: That was the unmistakable accent of ADA Dominick "Sonny" Carisi (Peter Scanavino).

"If you want me to build a case against the entire Los Santos operation, I need a witness," he tells Stabler (Christopher Meloni). Alas, Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) was nowhere in sight.

Who Does Ty Eliminate in Week 1 of 'Farmer Wants a Wife' Season 2?

Thu, 02/01/2024 - 9:33pm

The Season 2 premiere of Farmer Wants a Wife saw four bachelors go on speed dates with eight women each to figure out which five ladies (per guy!) they wanted to take back to their respective farms.

Among the single-and-ready-to-mingle cowboys was horse rancher (and rope wizard) Ty Ferrell, a 42-year-old divorcee who's raising a 12-year-old daughter out of Sikeston, Missouri.

Here's who he eliminated from his list of potential suitors (including one who took herself out of the running).

Who Does Ty Eliminate in Week 1 of Farmer Wants a Wife Season 2?Christine

Occupation: Real Estate Developer
Location: Laurel Hollow, NY

Michael Becker / FOX

Christine got off on the wrong foot with Ty when she asked him what he looks for in a woman and then tacked on a slightly racier version of the question: "What turns you on?" The phrasing left Ty feeling nervous and flustered, and he later admitted to not being accustomed to such a "direct" personality.

Perhaps Christine picked up on the awkwardness, because she soon after decided to leave the show.

"When I met Ty, I truly in my heart feel he’s a super genuine man, but everyone has a gut instinct and I just didn’t feel a connection,“ she said. "I don’t know if this city girl belongs here.”

At the encouragement of a producer, the Long Island native broke the news to Ty herself.

“I’m feeling a whole range of emotions being here, but specifically I’m feeling like this isn’t the right place for me … so I’ve made the decision to leave, and I hope that you can still find love in your heart for me and somehow respect that decision and know that I’m trusting my gut on this one," she said, choking up. "And I really apologize for leaving. It’s been a pleasure getting to know you for the short period of time."

Ty understood—and was probably relieved.

Allison

Occupation: Sales Rep
Location: Holly, MI

Michael Becker / FOX

Allison didn't say or do enough (anything?) in the episode to leave a lasting impression, which is probably why she was eliminated. But on a personal note, she reminds me of Kelly Taylor (Jennie Garth) from Beverly Hills, 90210, so there's that!

Throwback Photos From Taylor Swift’s Childhood Production of ‘Grease’ Will Make You Smile

Thu, 02/01/2024 - 9:02pm

Some Taylor Swift fans are now seeing special throwback photos of the “Shake It Off” singer for the very first time.

Tobin Mitnick, an actor and comedian who once starred alongside Swift in a childhood production of Grease, shared three photos of himself with Swift in a Feb. 1 post on Instagram. All three photos appear to have been taken during the time they spent together in preparation for the musical.

In the first photo, Mitnick and Swift stood back to back as they smiled for the camera, with Mitnick dressed in black as Danny Zuko and Swift wearing a white sweatshirt and white shorts as Sandy Olsson. The two seemed to be chatting while wearing the same outfits in the second photo. The third captured them performing the last scene in the musical, with Swift dressed in Sandy’s memorable all-black final number.

Mitnick, now 36, credited his mother with finding the snapshots, which he said showed himself and Swift, 34, “harmonizing like buttah on summer nights” when they participated in the production. He dated the photos June of 2000.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Tobin Mitnick (@jewslovetrees)

Mitnick then jokingly offered a tip for the pop superstar's boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce: “Also trav the note is an f-sharp if youre interested.”

Related: Jason and Travis Kelce's Baby Photos Are the Cutest Thing You'll See Today

The throwback photos quickly amassed thousands of likes on Instagram, prompting a follow-up comment from Mitnick asking why this post drew attention and a similar one he shared last year did not. He initially shared the first photo of himself with his “Grease 2000 co-star” in March 2023 ahead of the release of his book, Must Love Trees: An Unconventional Guide.

Swifties are typically eager to jump on new information about the singer when tidbits like this pop up, but there has been a larger-than-usual amount of attention focused on her due to her whirlwind romance with Kelce and his team’s recent advancement to the 2024 Super Bowl. Swift, who has attended several of Kelce’s games this NFL season, is widely expected to attend the Chiefs-San Francisco 49ers matchup on Feb. 11. If she does, it’ll require a quick journey from Tokyo, where she’s scheduled to perform on Feb. 10, to Las Vegas, where Super Bowl LVIII is taking place at Allegiant Stadium.

Who Does Ty Pick on 'Farmer Wants a Wife' Season 2?

Thu, 02/01/2024 - 9:00pm

Professionally speaking, 42-year-old Ty Ferrell is a "team roper" (and if you're not sure what that is, you're not alone). But Farmer Wants a Wife Season 2's oldest bachelor is first-and-foremost a father. "I have a little girl...she’s my First Lady," he told his suitors early on in the premiere. "She’s the biggest part of my life."

It stands to reason that Ty is going to pick a woman who he sees as a good fit for his 12-year-old daughter, Lennon, as well as for himself. (Presumably the right person will also know her way around a piece of rope.)

Who does he go with? We don't know just yet, but below are the five women who are still vying for Ty's heart after Week 1, and what sort of chance they stand at becoming the (second) First Lady of his farm.

Related: Meet the Cast of 'Farmer Wants a Wife' Season 2

Who Does Ty Ferrell Pick on Farmer Wants a Wife Season 2?

We don't know just yet, but here's who is still in the running.

Melody

Occupation: Nurse
Location: Yonkers, NY

Melody was Ty's pick for the one-on-one date, so it's fair to call her his frontrunner at the moment. “I chose farmer Ty because there was something about him that was super masculine," Melody said at the start of the premiere. "[I'm] ready to saddle up, you know?”

She proved as much on their speed date, charming the farmer with what he referred to as her "sass."

"Her energy is absolutely phenomenal," he said. Forget that she later had to ask what a silo was because she'd never seen one before in her life (a potential red flag if you're a farmer). "You don’t sound stupid at all," Ty told her. "You sound curious." Yeah, he's smitten.

Michael Becker / FOX

Brooke

Occupation: Executive Assistant
Location: Sarasota, FL

Brooke admits in the premiere that she's looking for a country boy because "a lot of the guys in the city don’t want to commit," which says nothing of her desire to actually live on a farm. But she did blurt out that she loves the smell of horse poop (no, really), so her upcoming adventure should be a delight to her senses, if nothing else.

Michael Becker / FOX

Erin

Occupation: Event Planner
Location: Georgetown, TX

All we know about Erin so far is that her eyes are really blue (Ty's observation) and she sweats when complimented. To the farm!

Michael Becker / FOX

Megan

Occupation: Teacher
Location: Nashville, TN

Megan doesn't make a huge splash in the Season 2 premiere, but she does say that her "heart and passion is in teaching," which seems to delight Farmer (and Father) Ty.

Michael Becker / FOX

Amy

Occupation: Realtor
Location: Palm Beach, FL

Michael Becker / FOX

It's hard to remember a single thing Amy said or did in the premiere, but given that the FWAW editors had to introduce 32 women in one hourlong episode, we'll blame the show and hope she steps up next week.

Whoopi Goldberg Seemingly Can’t Stand Any More Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce Talk

Thu, 02/01/2024 - 8:36pm

Whoopi Goldberg appears to be exhausted by the seemingly never-ending stream of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce chatter.

The View co-host engaged with the topic at first during her Jan. 31 show, but she seemed to reach her limit when her fellow co-host, Alyssa Farah Griffin, mentioned the “Blank Space” singer again.

Goldberg, 68, was game to address a recent rant by Fox Sports Radio’s Colin Cowherd, who defended Swift against the “weird, lonely, insecure men” who are frustrated by how NFL broadcasts show her attending games in support of her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end.

The View played a clip of the sportscaster’s comments as Goldberg acknowledged that the “outrage” some people experience simply by seeing Swift in the stands at NFL stadiums “keeps getting louder.”

After a roundtable discussion about the Swift-Kelce outrage, The View shifted to a conversation with Bryce Dallas Howard, who stars in director Matthew Vaughan’s new spy action film Argylle. The interview presented Griffin with another opportunity to mention Swift as she referenced a conspiracy theory floating around the internet about the film’s protagonist. Griffin explained how the theory posits that Elly Conway, whom Howard plays, is “actually a pseudonym for Taylor Swift.”

It was then that Goldberg began laughing and leaned her head down on the table in front of her. “Oh my god,” she said.

.@BryceDHoward tells us about her new spy comedy, #Argylle, that was inspired from the book of the same name and weighs in on conspiracy theories that the author Elly Conway is a pseudonym for Taylor Swift! #ArgylleMovie https://t.co/cVclFZQU98 pic.twitter.com/T1f2NlhDbi

— The View (@TheView) February 1, 2024

Howard assured The View’s audience that Swift “did not write Argylle,” though she agreed the pop star does often wear argyle patterns.

This isn’t the first time that Goldberg has appeared exhausted by the Swift-Kelce romance—and with the Chiefs now heading to the Super Bowl on Feb. 11, it won’t be the last she hears of them.

Kelly Clarkson Stuns Fans With Barefoot Cover of Indie Ballad: ‘The Range’

Thu, 02/01/2024 - 8:11pm

Kelly Clarkson's most recent Kellyoke cover has fans convinced that she "can sing anything."

On Thursday, Feb. 1, the Grammy winner and talk show host took the stage on the set of The Kelly Clarkson Show barefoot, only wearing a vibrant red dress and some eye-popping makeup.

As the live studio audience cheered, Clarkson, 41, began singing her own rendition of "Quietly Yours" by British singer-songwriter Birdy.

Hours after the performance initially aired, the show's social team uploaded a clip to YouTube, and fans didn't waste any time sharing how impressed they were.

"The vocal range is insane...you sang it so beautifully!!!" one top-liked YouTube comment read.

"She has the most versatile voice I've ever heard," a second declared. "Soft or powerful she can do it all. And I am so happy that I get to hear her sing on a regular basis like this. So many of my favorite singers have disappeared. Keep singing girl!!!"

"Her talent is a gift & a blessing for us! #vocalgold," someone else exclaimed.

"I LOVE that she was barefoot!" another wrote. "Can’t get enough of this beautiful genuine authentic woman!"

"The only problem with this song is it's too short," a different YouTuber quipped. "Kelly can sing anything."

Those who caught the moment on Instagram were also stunned.

"I mean this range for the backing vocal 😱😱," one wildly impressed fan pointed out. "MY GOSSHHH 🔥🔥🔥🔥." To which Clarkson's team replied by giving credit where credit is due, shouting out musician and vocal director Jessi Collins, "this is a @jesscollins stan account."

"Artist Beware Kelly covers… they’re always better…," another joked before a second suggested, "when kelly gets a hold of singing YOUR song, it is HERS NOW. 🧏🏼‍♂️."

Who Was Eliminated on 'The Traitors' Season 2 This Week?

Thu, 02/01/2024 - 8:01pm

Yikes. Things are not looking great for the Traitors. After riding high for the first half of the season, the Faithfuls are really starting to clean up. Last week Kate Chastain was added to the Faithfuls roster and this week the Traitors sustained losses on all sides. But that certainly doesn't mean the Traitors are down for the count, especially with the opportunity to recruit a new Traitor to their side.

The Traitors (along with Alan Cumming and his over-the-top outfits) is now over halfway through Season 2, and so far it's been glorious. It was also recently announced to be the #1 unscripted series in the U.S. across all streaming platforms, according to Nielsen.

22 players from shows like Big Brother, The Challenge and The Real Housewives entered the Scottish mansion and were assigned the titles of either Traitor or Faithful. Now they're eliminating each other one by one, duking it out for the $250,000 prize pot.

Related: Six Big Changes Coming to 'The Traitors' for Season 2

Here's everything that went down in Episodes 6 of The Traitors Season 2:

Who was murdered on The Traitors Season 2 Episode 6?

No one. The Traitors attempted to murder Carsten "Bergie" Bergersen, but because he had a Shield, he survived the night. This was all part of Peter Weber's plan to sniff out the Traitors, which put suspicion squarely on the backs of Parvati Shallow and Dan Gheesling, who he correctly pegged as Traitors.

Who was banished on The Traitors Season 2 Episode 6? Dan Gheesling

Peacock

Dan Gheesling

After five episodes of banishing Faithfuls, Dan Gheesling finally became the first Traitor banished from Season 2. The Faithfuls have been circling Dan for weeks and in Episode 5, he narrowly dodged elimination by throwing Janelle Pierzina under the bus. However, despite a hail mary to eliminate fellow Traitor Phaedra Parks in this episode, he was sent home in a near unanimous vote.

The vote count:

  • Dan (11) — John, Bergie, Trishelle, Kate, Sandra, MJ, Kevin, Phaedra, Parvati, CT, Sheree
  • Phaedra (1) — Dan
  • Parvati (1) — Peter
Who did the Traitors recruit in Episode 6?

Peacock

Peter Weber

In an attempt to confuse the Faithfuls and get revenge on the group that clocked Dan and Parvati, the remaining Traitors opted to send a recruitment letter to Peter. Now its up to Peter to decide whether or not he'd like to continue the game as a Faithful or join the Traitors ranks. The end of Episode 6 shows Peter mulling over the decision, wondering if he'll be murdered by the Traitors if he decides remain a Faithful.

Who won Shields during Episode 6?

Only one shield was awarded this week and Sheree Whitfield earned it in the catapult challenge. However, because the Traitors opted to recruit rather than murder, the Shield is a moot point this round.

Which players remain in The Traitors Season 2?

With ten players eliminated, there remain 12 contestants in the hunt for the $250,000, with two Traitors, nine Faithfuls and one undecided. The remaining players are:

  • Carsten "Bergie" Bergersen (Faithful)
  • Chris "CT" Tamburello (Faithful)
  • John Bercow (Faithful)
  • Kate Chastain (Faithful)
  • Kevin Kreider (Faithful)
  • Mercedes "MJ" Javid (Faithful)
  • Parvati Shallow (Traitor)
  • Peter Weber (undecided)
  • Phaedra Parks (Traitor)

Camila Cabello Is Unrecognizable in Steamy Clip Debuting New Hair

Thu, 02/01/2024 - 7:20pm

Fans are fawning over the new hairstyle Camila Cabello just debuted on social media.

Cabello, 26, is known for her trademark dark brown locks, but it seems the “Havana” singer finally decided she's ready to test out a whole new look.

In a steamy Feb. 1 video posted on Instagram, Cabello appears to have dyed her long hair blonde. She is seen posing for an unseen videographer and looking into a second camera she held for the duration of the clip.

Cabello’s short and teasing caption for the video simply reads, “it’s time.” The video amassed more than 361,000 likes and more than 12,700 comments in the first five hours after she posted it.

Several of the “Never Be the Same” singer’s fans and friends gushed over her new look.

Dinah Jane, a fellow Fifth Harmony alum, was one of several Instagram users who commented on Cabello’s video, writing, “wowwww blondes have more funnn.”

“Finally YOURE FREE,” wrote another fan.

One person predicted that Cabello is about to enter her “blonde bombshell pop star era,” while another suggested it is “time” for her to “drop a new album.”

Many people seemed to think that the style revamp was intended as a hint that Cabello was preparing to release new music. In another Instagram post earlier this week, Cabello shared photos of herself inside a recording studio. Her fans were thrilled by the idea that new music might be on the way, with some begging for Cabello to drop a new single soon and others expressing frustration that she hasn’t done so already.

Cabello’s last album came in 2022 with the release of Familia, a 12-track collection that featured guest spots by Ed Sheeran, Willow Smith and Yotuel. Cabello dropped a major hint to indicate that she’ll be releasing new music this year in a series of Dec. 2023 Instagram Stories showing her in frame with a microphone, according to Billboard.

Adding This Food to Your Diet Could Lower Your Blood Pressure by as Much as 36%, According to Research

Thu, 02/01/2024 - 6:25pm

If you can’t eat a sandwich without a few tomato slices, always top your tacos with pico de gallo, and love marinara, you may actually be giving yourself a health boost. Research shows tomatoes may help lower your blood pressure and offer a number of other benefits.

A 2023 study published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology found that people without high blood pressure who regularly ate raw tomatoes and tomato-centric foods had a 36% lower chance of developing high blood pressure than those who didn’t eat as many tomatoes.

The research also showed that a moderate intake of tomatoes helped people with hypertension lower their blood pressure.

“This study underscores what most would consider intuitive regarding all fruits and vegetables: they're beneficial for health,” says Maggie Lyon, RD-CDN, a practitioner in residence at the University of New Haven School of Health Sciences. “Besides being functional foods, tomatoes are a culinary cornerstone and among the most versatile ingredients.”

Researchers believe that the antioxidant compounds in tomatoes, especially lycopene, and their high potassium content are what offer blood pressure-lowering benefits, explains Tamar Samuels, RD, co-founder of Culina Health.

Eating tomatoes as part of a well-rounded diet full of other fruits and vegetables, lean protein, and whole grains provides many health advantages, dietitians say. Here’s a look at the health benefits of tomatoes and other ways your diet can improve your blood pressure.

Tomatoes Offer Many Other Health Benefits

Along with helping lower blood pressure, research shows that tomatoes and tomato-based products can also offer anti-cancer benefits and reduce your risk for cardiovascular, neurodegenerative and bowel diseases, Samuels says. They can also boost your immune response, aid in exercise recovery and improve skin health.

“Tomatoes contain a variety of micronutrients including potassium, vitamin K, folate and vitamin C, as well as antioxidants like lycopene and beta-carotene that have been shown to have health benefits,” says Megan Meyer, Ph.D., a science communication consultant.

Lycopene, which gives tomatoes their red color, can help reduce cellular damage and prevent inflammation, Lyon says.

Another plus: a medium-sized tomato has about 1.5 grams of fiber. Since most Americans don’t eat enough fiber, Meyer says incorporating more tomatoes into your diet can help you meet your daily fiber recommendations of about 25 grams a day for women and 38 grams for men.

How Dietary Changes Can Improve Blood Pressure

Focusing on whole grains, beans, low-fat dairy, vegetable oils and low-saturated fat protein, like fish, also contributes to lower blood pressure, Meyer says.

Related: The Common Dietary Habit That You Might Not Know Is Making Your Blood Pressure Worse

One option is to follow the Dietary Approaches to Stopping Hypertension (DASH) eating pattern, which Samuels says is a “well-researched nutrition protocol for managing and treating high blood pressure.”

Adhering to the DASH diet has been shown to reduce systolic blood pressure (the top number on your blood pressure reading) by 5.5 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure (the bottom number) by 3 mmHg, research shows.

The DASH diet focuses on eating plenty of non-starchy fruits and vegetables and moderate amounts of fat-free or low-fat dairy, whole grains, lean meats, poultry, beans, eggs, fish, nuts and seeds and healthy fats like olive oil.

Reducing your salt intake is crucial for lowering high blood pressure and is also addressed in the DASH diet, Samuels says. Most people should have no more than 2,300 mg of sodium a day (about a teaspoon), while salt-sensitive people should have no more than 1,500 mg.

One way to lower your salt intake is to cut back on ultra-processed foods, like frozen meals, chips, baked goods and fast food, Samuels says. “You don't need to avoid these foods entirely, but focus on consuming smaller portions, less frequently to decrease your sodium intake.”

Also, avoid added sugar—or, at least reduce your intake of sweets to five or fewer servings a week to reduce cravings, Samuels suggests.

The DASH diet also recommends limiting drinking alcohol to one serving a day, which is a 12-ounce beer, 5 ounces of wine or 1.5 ounces of liquor, she adds.

Why You Still Need to Work With Your Doctor

Making lifestyle changes and adjusting your diet can significantly reduce your blood pressure and help you manage high blood pressure, Meyer explains. In some instances, it can help you delay or even avoid blood pressure-lowering medications.

However, it’s always best to talk to your doctor before making drastic diet or lifestyle changes—and, don’t stop taking your medicine without talking to your doctor first, Lyon says.

Keep in mind that many factors play a role in having high blood pressure, including physical activity level, stress, diet, smoking and alcohol intake. As Samuels explains, “Many people may need a combination of diet, lifestyle and medication interventions to properly manage their condition.”

Kaley Cuoco Mourns the Loss of a Special Part of Her Family

Thu, 02/01/2024 - 6:10pm

Kaley Cuoco is mourning the loss of another four-legged family member less than a year after the death of her pup Dump Truck.

The Flight Attendant star announced the passing of her rescue dog, King, in an emotional Feb. 1 post on Instagram. The post includes several photos showing the actress posing alongside King and ends with a picture of King sitting beside Matilda, Cuoco’s young daughter.

“There are no words to describe our dearest little Kingy,” she wrote, recalling how he was the first “and honestly the most special” rescue she and her partner, Tom Pelphrey, adopted together less than two years ago.

“I saw him online shaking in a shelter in Atlanta while I was away in Germany , and asked the shelter to hold him because we just had to have him,” Cuoco wrote in a tribute accompanying a 10-photo Instagram tribute. “We did not have him nearly long enough.”

Cuoco recalled that King was just 6 pounds and “scared” when they first brought him home, but he transformed over time into “a chubby , hilarious , side plopping, eye kissing part of our family.”

“The hardest part about adopting seniors with medical issues, is we truly don’t know how long we have,” the Big Bang Theory alum wrote. Cuoco ended her post by urging others to rescue pets as her family has and said that, in King’s case, he “left his paw print on our family’s hearts forever.”

Cuoco has received an outpouring of support from her Instagram followers, including the nonprofit Best Friends Animal Society, which thanked her for adopting King as a senior pet.

King’s passing comes about eight months after the death of Dump Truck, a dog Cuoco has described as being with her “during some of the hardest moments I’ve had in my life.” Cuoco, who is a big advocate for pet rescues, brought her family’s most recent four-legged friend, Red, into the mix less than two months ago.

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Target has really upped its game in the past decade when it comes to home goods and decor. This includes selling trendy items for the home as well as creating memorable collections with brands that people already love. And that’s perfectly on display with their upcoming collab, the Rifle Paper Co. x Target collection (which drops February 4). And while the furniture in the collab is gorgeous but on the slightly more expensive side, the decor part of the Target collection has shoppers very excited.

The decor collection ranges from $10-$20 in price for a majority of the items, but there are some picture frames and lamps that go until the $50+ price range. Some standout items include the Rifle Paper Co. x Target taper candle set (with 4 candles and 2 candle holders) ($20) and the Rifle Paper Co. x Target indoor planter (starting at $15). The candles are bright and cheerful and the matching indoor planter is great for anyone trying to take care of more plants in 2024.

Rifle Paper Co. has been around since 2009 and is known for its hand-painted floral designs. They definitely bring to mind Anthropologie vibes and that cute aesthetic that pairs well with cozy home decor. As the site says, “The Rifle Paper Co. x Target Decor Collection brings detailed floral prints to everyday objects.” There are dark green shades, bright pink patterns and more to match any household vibe.

What makes this "Grandmillennial" core? This style is characterized by mixed textures, heirloom-looking furniture or decor items and "eye-catching embellishments" as the term is explained on Martha Stewart's site.

Think of furniture with loud prints (usually floral) and curtains to match, or "outdated" decor items. It's a way to modernize antique-looking household items. And for shopping accounts like @shoppedbyashley, that means lots of blue and white to give off the “Grandmillennial” aesthetic. Because of that, the Hydrangea pattern in this collection fits the style perfectly.

Fortunately, the Grown-ish star appeared to be in relatively good health as he recounted the incident that landed him in the hospital overnight in a post shared to his Instagram grid on Thursday, Feb. 1.

"I spent the night in the emergency room. Movie set fight gone wrong. Me against two goons and a chair! Guess who didn’t win! Who needs a stuntman? Me that’s who!" the 53-year-old joked alongside a photo of himself stretched out on a gurney and holding up a peace sign.

"CT scan and X-rays showed nothing fractured or broken in my back just a deep contusion," he explained.

"That chair will never be the same though!" the comedian continued, "Bloodied and bowed but never broken!"

The Secret Ingredient for Fudgy Brownies That Stay Moist for Days

Thu, 02/01/2024 - 5:30pm

Sometimes kitchen experiments go smoothly—and other times not so much. And as frustrating as a culinary flop can be, those misses can be the inspiration we need to discover something better.

When we were scrolling through TikTok recently we ran across Joell Park's account, where we quickly went down the rabbit hole of her fun food videos. One that caught our eye was her post about the viral brownie recipe from KPop icon Felix from Stray Kids.

The recipe has been making the rounds and some folks, like @littleremyfood and @thedatenightkitchen, have had good luck with it. But when Joell gave it a shot it and said it was a "kind of a flop" in her kitchen. Because she's a food pro, she took matters into her own hands and made a few tweaks, including one we're filing away to use in our future brownie life.

View the original article to see embedded media.

Her first tweak was to replace Felix's espresso crystals with a couple of shots of espresso. She also upgraded to a fancier chocolate bar than the Hershey's he used in his recipe. But it was the next addition that got our attention. When the brownies were fresh out of the oven, she drizzled them with a little oat milk.

“To avoid the brownies drying out over time, I actually poured a little bit of oat milk on them right out of the oven," Joelle says in the video. "As it cools, it absorbs in and is super rich and moist."

While that seemed like a kooky addition when we first saw it, after the tip sunk in (pun absolutely intended) we realized its genius. We're fans of tres leches cake and pretty much any and all poke cakes, both of which call for pouring some sort of liquid over a baked cake to make it moist and tender. In those desserts, holes are typically poked into the cake with a fork or the handle of a wooden spoon, but we can see why Joelle wouldn't want to mar the top of her brownies with holes.

When she sliced into the brownies they definitely looked moist and fudgy, so we can't wait to try this with our next batch of brownies. If we don't have oat milk on hand we bet that regular milk or another plant-based milk would also do the trick. It also makes us wonder if something like a splash of flavored creamer or chocolate or strawberry milk might be a fun addition too. There's only one way to find out.

What Taylor Swift ‘Loves’ About Travis Kelce’s Looks

Thu, 02/01/2024 - 5:01pm

One of the things Taylor Swift “loves” about Travis Kelce’s looks is a style he appears to put a lot of effort into keeping up with.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end’s barber, Patrick Regan, recently spoke with Fox News Digital about his history with Kelce and interactions with the “Blank Space” singer.

Regan told the news outlet that he has been cutting Kelce’s hair ever since the two met about six years ago in Florida. Regan now makes frequent trips to Kansas City, Missouri, so that he can give the NFL player a “skin fade” haircut, Kelce’s preferred style, ahead of the Chiefs’ game days. Though the style predates Kelce’s adoption of it quite a bit, Regan said he’s aware that some people are now referring to it as the “Travis Kelce cut,” a nod to the tight end’s rise in popularity.

Recently, Regan said Swift has been around “a bunch of times” to watch him cut Kelce’s hair—and it’s a look she approves of.

“Taylor loves the haircut,” Regan told Fox News Digital, adding that she “always compliments it after.”

Regan often shares photos of his clients mid-trim on social media. In one Dec. 2023 Instagram post featuring Kelce, Regan personally thanked Swift for sharing snapshots of her boyfriend post-haircut.

Swift and Kelce went public with their relationship last fall as she started rooting him on at Chiefs games. She most recently attended the Chiefs’ AFC Championship game last weekend, during which Kelce and his team defeated the Baltimore Ravens in their final hurdle to reaching Super Bowl LVIII. The couple was spotted sharing a sweet PDA moment after the game when Swift and other members of the Kelce family joined him on the field to celebrate the Chiefs’ win.

Swift is now expected to attend the Super Bowl in person on Sunday, Feb. 11, to cheer for Kelce. However, she has a concert scheduled the night before in Tokyo, making a speedy return to the U.S. tricky but not impossible.
