A Huge Country Star Just Covered Ella Langley’s 'Choosin’ Texas,' and It’s Dang Good

Fri, 08/21/2026 - 9:23am

It’s not just you — everyone is obsessed with Ella Langley‘s addicting “Choosin’ Texas.” There’s a reason it’s been superglued to the No. 1 spot on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart for a record-breaking 18 weeks, right?

While on a trip across the pond to open for fellow star Luke Combs at Wembley Stadium, Thomas Rhett tried his hand at an acoustic cover of Langley’s smash hit, and some fans think it’s even better than her original.

“Choosin’ Texas” is a co-write between Langley, Miranda Lambert and Joybeth Taylor, but watching his cover, you could believe Rhett had a hand in it, too (he didn’t, he’s just a fan).

Backed by spotlights and a guitarist, the “Die a Happy Man” singer poured his heart into the lyrics about a lover who’s got wandering eyes for someone new, quite literally baring his chest as he sang. The appearance was shot for the U.K.’s Absolute Radio.

Fans in the comments section below the YouTube video were taken aback, not expecting to love Rhett’s version of the song — which is from the female perspective — as much as they do.

“I have yet to hear one of your covers where I don’t think you’ve outdone the original artist!” one person writes.

“You sound absolutely amazing singing this!” someone else says.

Then there’s this person, who may have found a new favorite artist, admitting: “I like this version more honestly lol.”

It’s not the first time Rhett has performed this song, which is one of the biggest hits of 2026, but it is the first time he’s done it solo in such an intimate setting. Previously, he and pop star Niall Horan sang the song together in Nashville during one of their co-headlining stadium shows.

Don’t think for one second that Rhett is hopping on the “Choosin’ Texas” bandwagon because it’s popular. He’s a true Ella’s Fella, and it runs in his family. Talking to Country Countdown USA in April, Rhett told a funny story about hanging out with his grandma, who had a question about a confusing line in Langley’s song. So, he did what any famous country-singing grandson would do. “I said, ‘Let’s FaceTime her and ask her,'” Rhett recalled.

Langley picked up the phone — she was backstage about to open up for Eric Church — but Rhett said she still “was so gracious to walk my grandma through the opening verse.”

“My grandmother is a huge Ella fan,” he dished. Well, that makes, well, all of us.

Rosie O'Donnell's Brutal Trump 'Donny Boy' Song Has Fans Begging Her to Stay on TV

Fri, 08/21/2026 - 9:21am

Rosie O’Donnell saved one of her best shots for last. During her final monologue as Jimmy Kimmel‘s guest host, O’Donnell rewrote the classic Irish ballad “Danny Boy” as a brutal takedown of President Donald Trump — and fans are already begging her not to leave.

O’Donnell took aim at everything from Trump’s Big Mac obsession and the White House’s green reflecting pool to his “messy” hair and controversial policies, ultimately delivering the punchline that had viewers cheering: “Yes, we all know you’ll never be Obama. Come on, resign and make this country great again.” The performance quickly sparked an outpouring of praise, with fans calling O’Donnell a “national treasure,” a “much-needed lift,” and a legend who should be back on television more often.

The biggest reaction came when O’Donnell turned Trump’s own political messaging against him, singing that he would “never be Obama” before delivering her final plea for him to resign.

The internet quickly lit up with comments from fans who were already missing O’Donnell’s return to television. One fan wrote, “This was the best week with Rosie. What a comeback!!” Another added, “Rosie has been the gift I didn’t know I needed.”

Others praised the way O’Donnell delivered the song’s many digs. “OMG the perfect put down delivered with elegance and dignity,” one fan wrote.

Of course, the Obama comparison hit especially hard. “The [mic drop emoji] ‘you’ll never be Obama’ will play in his head rent free for the foreseeable future,” one person wrote, adding a crying-laughing emoji.

“A standing ‘O’…….. TRUMP WILL NEVER BE OBAMA!!” another fan declared.

And while “Donny Boy” gave viewers one last reason to cheer, many were equally disappointed that O’Donnell’s guest-hosting stint was already over. Several fans called her one of Kimmel’s best guest hosts, with one declaring, “She’s the best guest host that Jimmy had!” Another summed up the week as “the best week with Rosie.”

Allison Janney Reveals The Exact Text She Receives From Legend Carol Burnett 'Every Day'

Fri, 08/21/2026 - 9:18am

Allison Janney and Carol Burnett have one of the sweetest and most heartwarming friendships in Hollywood.

And with that, Janney has peeled back the curtain, providing some details on how often the two communicate. Specifically, she revealed that she has received at least one text from the comedy legend “every day” for four years.

During an appearance on CNN’s Coming Up podcast, Janney said that Burnett sends her Wordle results to keep the streak alive.

“I play Wordle with her every day, so I get a text from Carol Burnett every day of my life for the last four years,” she explained. “It’s pretty exciting. Every time it doesn’t get old, I say, ‘Yep. Carol Burnett texted me!’ So that’s pretty great.”

Janney and Burnett’s friendship began when the two started filming the Apple TV series Palm Royale, which is a comedy-drama also starring Kristen Wiig, Ricky Martin, Leslie Bibb, Lauren Dern, and many others.

“I just adore her,” she said. “Carol Burnett is probably the reason why I wanted to be an [actress], aside from my mother being an actress. Watching Carol Burnett, I dreamed of having my own Carol Burnett Show. She was very much why I wanted to be an actress.”

“Getting to work with her and getting to know her… I’m like, she’s my friend, which is just enormous,’’ Janney continued. “It’s so exciting for me. I pinch myself.”

Janney added during the podcast appearance that Burnett is “my idol,” which goes hand in hand with an interview she gave to PEOPLE earlier this summer, where she called the comedian “my biggest icon.” Janney put Burnett in a group alongside Hollywood legends such as Mary Tyler Moore, Eileen Brennan and Meryl Streep.

1964 Folk Masterpiece, Featuring a Track Covered by Joan Baez, Was Recorded in 3 Hours

Fri, 08/21/2026 - 9:12am

By 1964, the name Bob Dylan was beyond well-known in the folk community. He had famously already put out Bob Dylan (1962), The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan (1963), and The Times They Are a-Changin’ (1964), but he ended up having one more ace up his sleeve that year—Another Side of Bob Dylan.

That album marked a pivotal turning point for Dylan’s career. For the first time, Dylan turned inward in his lyrics, shying away from his typical protest-song roots and traditional folk covers. Fans finally got a look at Dylan’s emotional and vulnerable side. The craziest part? The album was recorded in just a single three-hour session.

The Story Behind ‘Another Side of Bob Dylan’

After returning from a heartbreaking jaunt in Europe that ultimately ended his relationship with his muse and girlfriend Suze Rotolo, Dylan headed into Columbia Recording Studios in New York. Tom Wilson, the album’s producer, insisted on calling it Another Side of Bob Dylan, which the singer reportedly hated, according to American Songwriter. However, it was a fitting title, as it would contain tracks that would in fact show a side of Dylan no one had seen before.

According to Ultimate Classic Rock, Dylan strolled into the studio booth equipped with only his acoustic guitar, his harmonica, and a bottle of wine. He ended up recording 14 tracks in one late-night three-hour session, and used 11 of them to make up what would be a career-changing album.

The masterpiece included songs like “My Back Pages,” “Chimes of Freedom,” and “It Ain’t Me Babe,” each of which gave listeners a view into Dylan’s evolving perspectives on himself and the folk community he had helped cultivate. But in doing so, he made enemies out of folk-protest purists.

“My Back Pages” is regarded as a look at his own past self-seriousness and a bit of a rejection of the rigid ’60s dogmas he had previously perpetuated. In contrast, “Chimes of Freedom” reassured listeners that Dylan still aligned himself with the “outcasts” of society through vivid imagery of taking shelter from a storm.

And then, of course, there is “It Ain’t Me Babe,” which was believed to be largely reflective of the breakdown of his relationship with Rotolo, who had significantly helped shape his early political voice. That song was later famously covered by Dylan’s former lover and fellow folk icon Joan Baez, whose rendition was hailed for adding even more emotional depth to the track.

Related: The Tragic Story Behind the 1961 Beloved Folk Song That’s Currently Going Viral

The album itself was really a precursor to the artistic controversies to come. A little over a year later, Dylan would push boundaries again and “go electric” at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival, causing another massive uproar in the folk community. But ultimately, Another Side of Bob Dylan summarizes who Dylan is as an artist: someone who boldly embraces the change everyone else resists, but eventually comes to revere.

Hayden Panettiere Would Have Turned 37 Today—Remembering Her Life and Legacy

Fri, 08/21/2026 - 9:07am

Actress and musician Hayden Panettiere was found dead in Greenville, South Carolina, on August 16. The beloved 36-year-old entertainer seemingly skyrocketed to another level of stardom overnight with her iconic role in Remember the Titans in 2000, going on to build an impressive career showcasing her chops on the big screen and a lesser-known music career of her own.

Related: 2000 Film, Named Among Best Sports Movies, Was One of Hayden Panettiere’s Biggest Breakout Roles

She would’ve turned 37 on August 21, but tragically passed just 5 days before marking another trip around the sun.

Silver linings may be hard to find in situations such as these, but the beauty of Hollywood is that her work will live on long after her death; you can watch her grow up before your eyes, from a fiery football fanatic in Remember the Titans to an indestructible cheerleader in Heroes and a country music superstar in Nashville. She also lent her voice to animated classics in Dinosaur and A Bug’s Life, all while her cute-as-a-button personality was beginning to melt audiences in front of the camera.

Many questions remain as to what happened within the four walls of Judson Mill Lofts in Greenville — especially with the DEA now involved — but what can’t be questioned is her undeniable talent. Even more recently, she showed her vulnerability in telling her own story through her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, where she revealed deeply personal chapters of her life, including Hollywood’s dark underbelly, claiming that at just 18 years old, she was put into bed with an ‘undressed’, notable celebrity while aboard a yacht — whom she never named.

Related: Hayden Panettiere Revealed Doctor’s Stark Warning in Memoir Released Before Her Sudden Death

Her final interviews were a mix of morbid, therapeutic, and surprisingly hopeful moments, leaving her passing even more heartbreaking. It’s reported she already had plans to ring in her 37th birthday too, traveling to Germany to spend the week with Kaya, who lives with her father, Panettiere’s ex-fiancé and former boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko.

With the autopsy now complete, loved ones are mourning Panettiere when they should’ve been celebrating another year of her life.

Perhaps most haunting is that Panettiere herself appeared excited about what that next year — and those beyond it — might bring. While discussing her future just months before her death, she said, “I feel like I have a lot more life to live.”

She also had ambitions beyond acting, including writing, producing and directing, with hopes of using everything she’d endured to help make Hollywood a safer place for the next generation, striving to “leave the world a better place.”

Michelle Pfeiffer, 68, Looks Ageless in New Selfie—and Has a Message for Retirement Rumors

Fri, 08/21/2026 - 9:01am

Michelle Pfeiffer is so stunning she can make a car selfie look perfect.

The star of Paramount+’s The Madison, 68, rose to fame in films like Scarface and Dangerous Liaisons, and later became a household name as Catwoman in Batman Returns. These days, she’s a bigger star than ever, with her role on the hot Taylor Sheridan series and Apple TV+’s Margo’s Got Money Troubles. But as the star headed to her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday to speak about her retirement rumors, she made it clear that she hasn’t aged a day since some of her biggest roles.

Pfeiffer Shot Down Retirement Rumors

While there have been rumors that Pfeiffer is retiring from the entertainment business, the star made it clear that’s not what she meant.

“It’s the most ridiculous thing. They’re always saying that I’m retiring. I never said [that]. … Where does it say I’m retiring?” Pfeiffer asked Fallon.

When he suggested she hinted at it, Pfeiffer made it clear she simply doesn’t want to be the main star of a film anymore.

“All I said was I really love working with an ensemble cast. I said something about, ‘I never wanna star in another movie,’ and they took that out of context,” she said, US Magazine reported. “Of course I wanna star in another movie.”

“I’ve done three ensemble pieces in a row … it’s wonderful to be able to live with a character for such an extended period of time and you can really just go deeper and find all of the different layers,” she continued. “But it’s also really wonderful, and most important to me, that I get to work with all of this talent. It’s an embarrassment of riches.”

Check out Pfeiffer’s appearance below:

When Did Pfeiffer Reveal She Is a Grandmother?

One of Pfeiffer’s passions these days is being a grandmother. The beloved star appeared on an episode of the Smartless podcast hosted by Jason BatemanWill Arnett, and Sean Hayes. During the episode, Pfeiffer revealed that she and her husband, Big Little Lies creator David E. Kelley, are officially grandparents.

Pfeiffer delved into the topic by first chatting about her acting work, explaining that she’s not too eager to take off for long periods of time because she wants to be at home.

“I don’t have time nor the desire to go that deep for that long and not be present,” she shared, Entertainment Weekly reported. “I realize I have a finite amount of time left and — I might announce on this show — that I became a grandmother last year.”

Pfeiffer continued, calling the experience of becoming a grandma “heaven.”

“I’ve been very quiet about it and it is— it’s heaven. It’s ridiculous. And if I had known that I was going to be a grandmother, I wouldn’t have taken on so much work, but I’ve enjoyed everything and I’m really grateful. I’ve loved — I love each of these projects,” she continued. “And so the weird thing is that giving up that angst about the process has freed me up and I feel in some ways has made me better.”

While it’s known that Pfeiffer and Kelley have two children, she did not specify which one is the parent of her grandchild.

Hayden Panettiere Set 'Boundaries' With Brian Hickerson—But Still Hired Private Security to Be Safe (Report)

Fri, 08/21/2026 - 8:48am

New details about Hayden Panettiere’s rekindled romance with Brian Hickerson are being revealed nearly a week after she died.

The Heroes actress had been dating Hickerson on-and-off since 2018. After a tumultuous few years marked by by domestic violence allegations that landed Hickerson in jail multiple times, the two broke things off in 2022. However, following the actress’ shocking death, it was reported that she and Hickerson had been seeing each other again, though they kept their relationship quiet.

Now, we’re learning that Panettiere took steps to protect herself—and that included hiring private security—according to a new report.

“She helped him from time to time because he made her feel guilty, claiming he was trying to turn his life around, but couldn’t because she put him in jail,” a source told Us Weekly. “But he would always take advantage of her and wouldn’t leave, so she hired private security to not only remove him, but to keep him away from her.”

The outlet also reported that Panettiere and Hickerson reconnect earlier this year when he reached out to her because he needed a place to stay.

“Brian said he needed to crash on Hayden’s couch. He told her that he had no money and nowhere to go because of the past criminal charges against him and he blamed that on her,” a source told the outlet. “He said it was her fault. She let him stay there temporarily, but then he wouldn’t leave, so her private security was involved to remove him.”

Panettiere was found unresponsive in an apartment in Greenville, South Carolina, on Sunday, Aug. 16. Hickerson and his brother, Zach, were reportedly with her at the time. Her death is currently under investigation and her cause of death is pending a toxicology report.

1981 Rock Song, Whose Video Was Banned and Heavily Censored, Was Duran Duran’s First Top 10 Hit

Fri, 08/21/2026 - 8:36am

“Girls on Film” was released by the English rock band Duran Duran in 1981. The song was their first top 10 hit on the UK Singles Chart, reaching the No. 5 position. It also made it onto the US Billboard Dance Club Songs chart.

The music video that accompanied the song was controversial. It was banned by the BBC and heavily censored when played on MTV. Beverley Downie, who was one of the women featured in the video, spoke to The Strange Brew about her experience filming the iconic footage.

“I didn’t really know of Duran Duran that well, but my younger sister was a big fan and very excited,” Downie explained. “It was a lovely experience, I was in it with one of my best friends at the time, Zoe Hendry. We met the band and the directors, Godley and Creme and the crew. Everyone was just lovely. I had no idea as to what I was going to do in the video. It just unfolded as the two days of shooting went on. First, we had a pillow fight on a greasy pole, then I was chosen as a massage therapist, then a girl drowning in a paddling pool, then we had a mud wrestle. It was a great experience.”

Downie also spoke about the video being banned and censored. “Shortly after the video, I saw an article, I think in the News of the World, ironically written by Paula Yates, saying how saucy or X-rated it was,” she explained. “Then it was banned from TV, of course. I suddenly thought, ‘Oh no, what have I done?’ But then it started to get a lot of notoriety, apparently it was the most popular in nightclubs, so I heard. I saw it. I thought it was really good, and I was proud to be a part of it.”

Duran Duran had many other hits over the years, including “Planet Earth,” “Hungry Like the Wolf,” “Save a Prayer,” “Rio,” and “Ordinary World.” In 2022, the group was Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Overall, they have sold over 100 million records.

The band is still together to this day, and they are still releasing new music.

JCPenney’s ‘Charming’ Floral Toile Quilt Set Is 60% Off and an Easy Way to ‘Spruce Up’ Your Bedroom Ahead of Fall

Fri, 08/21/2026 - 8:30am

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

If your bedding is starting to look a little too lightweight for the season ahead, a new pattern can change the room without requiring a full makeover. Toile is a particularly good choice for the transition because its floral motifs still feel appropriate for late summer, while the detailed print has enough visual weight to work with the warmer layers and textures we bring out for fall. Instead of jumping straight from bright summer prints to pumpkins and plaid, toile offers a middle ground that still feels fresh but a little more layered.

You can find the pattern on everything from decorative rugs to tablecloths, curtains, and accent pillows, so bringing it into the bedroom doesn’t feel out of left field. The Casual Comfort 3-Piece All-Season Lightweight Pattern Quilt Set at JCPenney is one way you can bring that classic pattern to the bed. It’s currently on sale for 60% off, down to $54 from the usual $135 in the full/queen size. Available in 11 styles, including multiple floral options, it’ll “spruce up” your bedroom for fall without committing to a full room makeover.

For those in-between months when cool, airy bedding starts feeling a little too bare but it’s not quite time for the heaviest comforter, the lightweight quilt is filled with a polyester down alternative for an extra layer of warmth without a lot of bulk. You can use it on its own during warmer weather, fold it across the foot of the bed when you want another layer within reach, or add it under a duvet or comforter once temperatures really start to drop. Meanwhile, the microfiber exterior gives it a soft feel against the skin, so it works as a sleeping layer rather than simply a decorative bed covering.

Matching shams carry the same pattern from the quilt onto the pillows, while concealed zipper closures keep the inserts securely inside. Since the zippers are hidden, you get a cleaner look from the back without having to deal with pillow inserts peeking through an open-back design. Quilting serves a practical purpose here, too, with the stitching helping keep the polyester filling distributed throughout the quilt instead of letting it shift and bunch in one spot.

When it comes to upkeep, the quilt and shams are machine washable and dryer-safe. That makes the set especially easy to live with in primary bedrooms, guest rooms, or homes where bedding has to contend with the occasional spill, pet hair, or general wear. It’s also Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified, meaning the textiles have been tested for harmful substances.

This three-piece quilt set comes in botanical prints featuring oversized floral bouquets mixed with smaller blooms, leafy branches, and winding stems that repeat across the quilt. Several have that classic toile look, but the mix of flowers and foliage keeps the pattern from feeling too formal or fussy. If you like the toile pattern but want to match it to your existing decor, the set comes in taupe, navy, terracotta, and mustard, ranging from softer neutrals to richer shades that naturally fit into a fall bedroom. The set also comes in classic stripes and Jacobean floral prints, for even more options.

Dubbed “super soft” and “cozy,” with “charming” and “versatile” prints, JCPenney shoppers clearly adored this quilt set. “The floral pattern is vibrant yet elegant, adding the perfect pop of color to the space,” one reviewer wrote, adding that “because it is reversible, it feels like getting two quilts in one.”

That same shopper also shared that the stitching is “precise and durable, holding up perfectly through the wash without any fraying or shrinking.”

Seattle Supergroup Announces First-Ever U.S. Tour 1 Year After Forming

Fri, 08/21/2026 - 8:28am

Evil Island, the Seattle-based supergroup, is hitting the road for the first time as the band announces its first-ever U.S. tour.

Formed in late 2025 and made up of members of The Blood Brothers, featuring Johnny Whitney on lead vocals, Cody Votolato on guitar and Mark Gajadhar on drums, with former OFF! and …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead member Autry René Fulbright II on bass and Glassjaw’s Todd Weinstock on guitar, the band is bringing its high-energy sound to stages across the country.

Entering a major new chapter in their music career, the supergroup unveiled a seven-date tour kicking off on Aug. 29 in Seattle, Washington, with a free show, followed by a concert in Austin, Texas, in September.

The run continues in October with one-night stops in Illinois and New York before wrapping up the tour in December in California and Colorado.

In addition, Evil Island also hinted at more tour dates being announced in the future, giving fans even more chances to catch the band live.

“Come see Evil Island on tour. More shows to come. Spread the word to all. Join us. Wild times are ahead. Fun has been legalized for all. Welcome to Evil Island,” the caption reads.

The tour comes in support of their recently released first album, Terraform the Afterlife.

Evil Island gave fans the first look at their music through their lead single “Tiger Baby,” which was released in April.

According to Whitney, the supergroup’s music reflects the creative ambition that pushed The Blood Brothers to continually expand their sound.

“In the Blood Brothers there was always this tension between who we were and who we wanted to be,” the vocalist said, as cited by Revolver Magazine. “As we got older and the band got bigger, we started to become more interested in what we could do than what we were actually best at doing. We kept trying to push the boundaries of the band, and eventually we pushed them so far that we lost some of the things that made us special in the first place.”

Apart from their lead single, Evil Island also released music videos for songs from their album, including “Animal,” “Melted Heart,” “King Death” and “Terminatrix.”

Evil Island 2026 Tour Dates

Aug. 29 – Seattle, WA @ Linda’s Fest (Free Show)
Sept. 5 – Austin, TX @ 13th Floor Anniversary Party
Oct. 16 – Chicago, IL @ Lincoln Hall
Oct. 30 – New York, NY @ The Bowery Ballroom
Dec. 12 – Los Angeles, CA @ Sid The Cat

The Real Reason Harry and Meghan Are Moving Back to Britain

Fri, 08/21/2026 - 8:24am

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are heading back to Britain and Meghan’s acting career may have more to do with the move than previously thought.

News broke on Aug. 19 that Harry and Meghan are relocating their family to the U.K. for an extended stay, with Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, set to begin school there this September. According to PEOPLE, Meghan has been offered a new acting role based in the U.K., one of several factors that helped align the timing of the move after six years in California. Details remain under wraps, though a representative for the couple declined to deny the project’s existence. News.com.au royal correspondent Bronte Coy, who first broke the news, told BBC Radio Four’s Today program that the role is “significant” and that Meghan is “very excited about it.”

Family reconciliation still appears to be part of the equation, too. The move follows the family’s private reunion with King Charles last month, which included tea at Highgrove House and a stop at Althorp House, where Harry paid respects at Princess Diana‘s gravesite alongside Meghan and their children.

An insider close to the family says being back in Britain could also open the door to repairing Harry’s strained relationship with Prince William. “It would never happen with him in America,” the source said. “This gives them opportunity to try and mend that bridge.” The brothers currently have little to no contact.

Importantly, the move isn’t intended to be permanent. The Sussexes will keep their Montecito home, and Meghan’s business ventures will continue operating out of the U.S., while Harry keeps up his charitable work, including preparations for the 2027 Invictus Games.

For now, much of the hope for healing seems to rest with King Charles, who reportedly welcomed news of his son’s return warmly. “He will want to see his sons together over time,” the source said. “This is the best opportunity we have seen in recent years.” After six years in California, it could be one of the most consequential returns to Britain yet for the Sussexes.

Danny Trejo Wants To Change This Stereotype About Boomers

Fri, 08/21/2026 - 8:20am

The 82-year-old actor reveals why he has no plans to slow down. Don’t tell Danny Trejo he’s too old to do something.

At 82, the Machete star still jogs, lifts weights, dances and keeps up a schedule that could exhaust someone half his age. So there’s one stereotype about baby boomers that particularly bothers him: the assumption that getting older automatically means becoming fragile or slowing down.

Trejo is now teaming up with Aspercreme for its “KO Boomer” campaign, an initiative aimed at challenging ageist stereotypes and outdated ideas about what people can—or should—do as they get older.

The campaign’s name is a play on the phrase “OK, Boomer,” swapping “OK” for the boxing term “KO,” or knockout, as a call to knock out outdated stereotypes about aging. The campaign also features Tom Cillo, Mirna Valerio and Marco Hurtado, encouraging people to rethink what it means to be a “boomer.”

“I was reading some of these definitions of a ‘Boomer’ online, and frankly, it made me mad,” Trejo tells Parade.com exclusively of joining the campaign. “Some internet dictionary says getting older means sitting down and being out of touch? I don’t think so. We’re taking action to change that definition and prove we’re still in the game.”

Trejo certainly is. When Parade caught up with the actor, he opened up about aging, the workout routine that’s keeping him active at 82 and why he doesn’t want his kids—or anyone else—treating him differently because of his age.

Danny Trejo wants people to stop assuming older adults need to slow down

When Parade asked Trejo what stereotype about boomers he’d most like to change, he pointed to the way adult children can sometimes become overly protective of their aging parents.

“A lot of times the kids, you know, like their children will start to be, ‘Careful. Watch out. Watch out,’” Trejo tells Parade. “It’s like, you know what? You don’t have to.”

His own three kids know their dad can handle himself, although he admits they’ll still check up on him from time to time. “They’ll let me go so far,” he jokes to Parade. “And then, you know, if I’m out too late, they’ll call.”

Considering what Trejo is still doing at 82, it’s easy to understand why he’s not interested in being told to take it easy.

View this post on Instagram Danny Trejo still jogs, lifts weights and dances at 82

Asked what he still does at 82 that might surprise people, Trejo has a list. “Well, I still jog. I still lift weights,” he tells Parade. “I run around, you know, I go out and still dance.”

And yes, the Hollywood tough guy knows his way around the dance floor.

“Love it,” he says of dancing. “I grew up with, like, four girls, you know, my cousins, and they all used to dance, so I was their dance partner.”

Trejo says he starts his day with a walk and still lifts weights, but he’s no longer concerned with putting up the massive numbers he once did.

“I walk in the morning,” he says. “I’ll lift weights. I’m not doing the 315 I used to push, but I’ll lift, like, 125 pounds. And that’s all you need.”

His focus these days is more on staying active than setting personal records. “You don’t need to do, like, heavy weights and stuff,” he adds. “You just have to get the cardio going, and that puts you in good shape.”

Boxing is still part of Danny Trejo’s life

Of course, no conversation about Trejo’s fitness routine would be complete without boxing.

The actor has spoken openly about learning to box during his time in prison, and he tells Parade that the sport helped keep him focused during that period of his life.

“Boxing really kept me out of trouble while I was in the penitentiary,” he says. “It’s hard to, like, get in trouble when you’re, like, working out every day and training.”

He also recommends boxing as a workout even for people who have no intention of ever stepping into the ring.

“I think boxing is probably one of the best all-around training that you can do,” he says. “You don’t have to actually fight. Hit the bag and stuff, you know.”

His attitude on getting older is a lesson for everyone

Trejo’s approach to aging isn’t only about staying physically active. His attitude may be just as important.

When asked what makes him feel young, Trejo doesn’t mention an exercise, food or wellness hack. “Just waking up in the morning,” he says. “I feel great.”

That gratitude is closely connected to his past. Trejo spent years incarcerated when he was younger, and he says remembering what life was like behind bars has made him appreciate freedoms that can be easy to take for granted.

“Once you remember what the pen was like, and you wake up and you hear birds, and you can go to your own mirror, and you go to your own bathroom and you jump in your own shower, you start getting grateful,” he says.

There’s another part of aging that Trejo has come to appreciate: the wisdom that comes with it. “You learn a lot more,” he says. “People that know, you know, it’s like they respect you just for getting here.”

And there’s something especially satisfying about knowing that other people hope they’ll someday reach the same milestone. “They’re hoping to get here,” he adds.

Trejo also has a sense of humor about his age. He says one of the biggest misconceptions people have about him is simply that he’s actually 82.

“A lot of times I tell people I’m 82 and they don’t believe it,” he says, adding that people often guess he’s around “60, 65.”

“So that’s cool,” he jokes.

The best advice he has received about aging

For all of Trejo’s thoughts on staying active and maintaining a positive outlook, the best advice he’s ever received about getting older is remarkably simple.

It came from his friend George, whom Trejo says lived to be around 96. “I said, ‘What’s the advice?’” Trejo recalls.

His friend’s response? “Just don’t die.”

Trejo seems determined to follow it.

As part of the KO Boomer campaign, Aspercreme is encouraging consumers to challenge ageist stereotypes and help redefine “boomer” around vitality and experience. Consumers can also enter the KO Boomer Sweepstakes through Sept. 30 for a chance to win a prize package that includes an active vacation, Aspercreme products and KO Boomer boxing gloves signed by Trejo.

And Trejo has perhaps the best evidence for the campaign’s message: his own life. At 82, he’s still working, working out, going dancing and making plans for what’s next.

As Trejo puts it: “I’m still here. I ain’t going nowhere right now.”

Hayden Panettiere Death Investigation Could Take a Dark Turn as Locals Speak Out

Fri, 08/21/2026 - 8:18am

An investigation into the shocking death of actress Hayden Panettiere is currently underway and some new information could offer some insight.

Residents in South Carolina have been concerned about an opioid crisis, with TMZ reporting that “laced drugs and fatal overdoses have been a serious concern in Greenville for years.”

According to the official police report, emergency personnel arrived at the scene following a 911 call about an unresponsive individual inside an apartment in Greenville, South Carolina, on Sunday, Aug. 16. While it’s unclear if drugs were a definitive factor in Panettiere’s death, the DEA has joined the investigation in an effort to piece together what happened to the Heroes star.

“There’s nothing to be shared at this time as the investigation is ongoing but we are hopeful that justice will be served,” a rep for the actress told ABC News.

Panettiere’s boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, was reportedly at the apartment where the Nashville star died and showed police the bag of medication that she was taking. It’s unclear if these drugs contributed to her death, which has been described as an overdose by some media outlets.

In 2022, Panettiere spoke with People magazine about her struggles with addiction.

“I was on top of the world and I ruined it,” she told the outlet. “I’d think I hit rock bottom, but then there’s that trap door that opens.”

When she was just 15 years old, Panettiere said her team gave her “happy pills” before appearances.

“They were to make me peppy during interviews,” she explained. “I had no idea that this was not an appropriate thing, or what door that would open for me when it came to my addiction.”

The actress started drinking alcohol and was taking opioids, which led to bigger problems. She’d eventually meet Wladimir Klitschko and welcome a daughter, Kaya, but postpartum depression set in and Panettiere had a very hard time. Eventually, she checked into rehab, where she received treatment for eight months.

“It’s an everyday choice, and I’m checking in with myself all the time,” she told People. “But I’m just so grateful to be part of this world again, and I will never take it for granted again.”

Panettiere’s cause of death is pending toxicology results.

1964 Hit Song, Which Never Reached No. 1, Was Covered by Van Halen, David Bowie, and Mick Jagger

Fri, 08/21/2026 - 8:12am

“Dancing in the Street” was a famous R&B song released by Martha and the Vandellas in 1964. It was written by Marvin Gaye, William Stevenson, and Ivy Jo Hunter. Despite its popularity, the song never reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It only reached the No. 2 position.

During an interview with NPR, singer Martha Reeves revealed she loved the first take they recorded of the song. “But the machine wasn’t on,” she explained. “Didn’t have the tape rolling. And then they said, ‘Well, Martha, can you do it again?’ And I didn’t get angry, but I was so disappointed because I thought I had nailed it.” They ended up using the second take instead.

When speaking about performing the song, Reeves told Berklee, “I know what I was feeling when I sang the song, and people don’t understand. It’s not a pillow song. It’s a singular song. ‘Dancing in the Street’ was what we did in our neighborhood. We didn’t have a rec hall. We didn’t know anything about getting together and singing and dancing in the street.” She continued, “They went to the police department and said, ‘Block the street off so we can dance on Saturday night, right in front of our houses until the sun goes down.’ And then we would quiet down, and not disturb anybody, just the people on our block.”

Many others have recorded the song throughout the years, including Little Richard, the Grateful Dead, Van Halen, David Bowie, and Mick Jagger. When asked about her favorite cover, Reeves said, “I have no idea because everybody who sang it had to give accolades to Marvin Gaye, William Stevenson, and Ivy Hunter, who wrote it, and I’m sure they’ve benefited from everybody copying it. I feel that mine, and my spirit, enhanced it.”

Mary and the Vandellas were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. They were also inducted into the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, the band broke up in 1972 after she went on to pursue a solo career.

Reeves is now 85. She still performs on occasion.

Last year, Dancing with the Stars began the reveal process for the next season’s celebrity participants earlier than normal, by introducing one – Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy Winner Robert Irwin — at the Hulu Get Real event. This year, the ABC/Disney+ competition series did one better by revealing two of the celebrity dancers for the new season.

Even so, there are plenty of other celebs who have yet to be confirmed, and the rumor mill is churning away as to who may be hitting the dance floor this fall.

Following is everyone who is confirmed and rumored to take part in 2026’s Season 35 of Dancing with the Stars.

Ciara was a cast member on Season 10 of Summer House and competed in Season 3 of Peacock’s The Traitors. Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, she is a registered nurse who specialized as an ICU travel nurse during the pandemic and has been modeling since age 16.

Ciara has been the talk of the town recently, in the center of a whirlwind involving her Summer House castmates, as a profuse amount of drama has come out over a secret affair between her frequent partner, West Wilson, and former bestie Amanda Batula. The subsequent fallout has brought many Bravo fans to her side, and, hopefully, they’ll be following her to the ballroom as well.

Maura is an Irish television personality, model, and presenter who rose to fame as a finalist on Season 5 of Love Island UK in 2019. She followed up her appearance as a contestant by serving as a social media ambassador for Love Island USA and Love Island Games and currently hosts Love Island USA: Aftersun. She also appeared in Season 4 of The Traitors as a “Faithful,” finishing as the runner-up.

On The Traitors, she played the entire time in the castle alongside fellow Love Island alum Rob Rausch, completely unaware he was in the turret the entire season. And so, she experienced the most shocking blindside of the season in the closing minutes, as the two of them went to the end together, only for him to take the money he thought she had won. The good news: He bought her a Birkin bag for consolation.

Not only was Guillermo Rodriguez officially revealed to be the fourth DWTS celebrity contestant for the 2026 airing of the dance competition, but he was the first to discover who his pro partner would be: Returning pro and Season 34 Len Goodman Mirrorball champion Witney Carson will be paired with the talk-show personality.

“I was so stoked,” Carson said on GMA about her pairing. “I think he is so sweet. He’s so fun. That’s exactly what I need in this season of life that I’m in, just someone who’s fun, personable.”

Jimmy Kimmel’s longtime sidekick has been working on the late-night series for more than 23 years, and recently launched his own brand of fresh salsa, Guillermo’s Salsa.

According to a report by TMZ, Julia Stiles, best known for her starring roles in teen films like 10 Things I Hate About YouDown to You, and Save the Last Dance, will be joining the cast for Season 35.

Stiles has previously admitted to being a fan of DWTS, calling the dance competition show her equivalent of Monday Night Football.

“I’ll go down YouTube rabbit holes of watching old videos, and I have my favorite choreographers,” Julia told People in a February 2025 interview. “We’ve talked about me doing it, but I live in New York City, so it would be hard. Maybe they could do an East Coast version.”

Jenna Dewan Jenna Dewan

It’s unusual for an actress currently working on a series to find time in her schedule to be able to squeeze in a season of Dancing with the Stars, but The Rookie is an ensemble show and it has the added advantage of filming in Los Angeles, so Us magazine is claiming that Jenna will be joining the show in Season 35.

Jenna also has the added advantage of having been a professional dancer, even though ballroom was not her style of dance, so she may not need as many rehearsal hours as the novices.

Tyler Cameron Tyler Cameron

Also reported by Us, Bachelor Nation fan-favorite Tyler Cameron will also be stepping onto the ballroom floor for the upcoming season. The fact that a representative from The Bachelor franchise will be part of the cast isn’t a surprise as most seasons feature at least one. And history is on their side: Melissa Rycroft and Joey Graziadei from The Bachelor won Dancing with the Stars, while Hannah Brown and Kaitlyn Bristowe from The Bachelorette also took home the Mirrorball Trophy.

TMZ also shared the news that The Fresh Prince of Bel Air star Tatyana Ali will be showing off her dance moves. In addition to Fresh Prince, Ali’s credits include the soap opera The Young and the Restless for six years before starring in a number of TV movies.

What would make Nic an excellent choice is the fact that he has no previous dance training, so he would be someone we could root for from the get-go to watch improve from week to week.

“The thing about it is the progression would be insane. I would win most improved. I just want to dance,” Vansteenberghe said.

Despite the fact that Rosie O’Donnell has moved to Ireland, her name was one that has been fronted as a possibility for Season 35 of DWTS. But while the actress/comedienne might bring some laughs to the competition, it turns out she’s not interested and she issued a denial after this fictitious post began circulating.

On April 13, she posted on Instagram: “this made me laugh- reminds me to never get a perm !!! completely untrue but funny 😁”

Last season on Dancing with the Stars, Flavor Flav served as a guest judge for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Night, and it was a memorable appearance because he made a scoring error on Alix Earle, giving her a 9 when he meant to give her a 10.

According to what the rapper told People, that error hasn’t stopped them from wanting him to return.
“They want me to come back and dance. I don’t know. I might do it if I think I could do it.”

But more seriously he told the magazine, “No, no, I don’t [think I could do it].”

But she does enjoy watching the show as she identifies with both the celebrity and pro dancers: “I know all of the nerves that go through everybody when, all of a sudden, well, it’s your time to perform and [you think], ‘help!’ I go through the same emotions that they go through.”

A source told the US Sun, “Nothing is finalized but he’s been given the offer and there’s a spot on the cast that is his if he wants it.” Then added, “DWTS knows he’ll be a huge heartthrob of the season. That mixed with his charm and popularity will guarantee him a decent run on the show.”

It’s unclear if it’s real or not but the idea was broached — and America saw it — when former American Idol winner Taylor Hicks returned to celebrate his 20th anniversary as the title holder of the singing competition on an episode that was a crossover with Dancing with the Stars, featuring performances by the pro dancers.

It was Carrie Underwood who first brought up the idea that Taylor officially take his dance moves to the ABC dance competition series. Then host Ryan Seacrest took things a step further by revealing that Rob Mills, Executive Vice President of Unscripted and Alternative Entertainment for Walt Disney Television, was in the studio. And when Ryan got the chance, he put the two men together. We saw Rob and Taylor meet, but we didn’t hear what they said. Stay tuned.

Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Cast

Dancing with the Stars will have a two-night premiere on Tuesday, Sept. 15, and Wednesday, Sept 16, at  8 p.m. on ABC and Disney+ and stream next day on Hulu.
