'Grey's Anatomy' Season 23 Will Look Completely Different With Two Major Cast Exits

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 10:52am

Being on the air for almost 25 years, Grey's Anatomy fans are conditioned to know that nothing gold can stay. Much like the patients they treat, doctors will check in and out of Grey Sloan Memorial from time and time. And the hit ABC medical drama had quite the "one-two punch" in its finale, saying farewell to one of its biggest couples — and leaving quite a hole in the process.

Here's everything to know about Grey's Anatomy Season 23, including possible release date and cast.

Kim Raver (Teddy Altman) Kim Raver as Teddy on 'Grey's Anatomy'

Disney/Nino Muñoz

Unfortunately, no! In March 2026, it was announced that Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver would be departing the show as series regulars after Season 22. The season finale saw a near-death experience for Owen make Teddy realize her rock-solid her feelings are for him. And so, as the couple declare their love for one another, they decide to leave Grey Sloan, heading to Paris for Teddy's new job.

Of course, unless a character dies on Grey's, the door is always open for them to come back (and even that hasn't stopped some cameos from happening over the years). However, at this moment, McKidd is happy to let Owen remain off-screen, instead focusing his efforts behind the camera. As he told Parade in an exclusive interview, "I know that Debbie very much wants me to [return], and Meg [Marinis] does too. I’m sorting through other offers and commitments. I will absolutely come back and direct Grey’s because I love it and it’s my family. It’s like going home and seeing your family."

Will Dr. Kwan be in Grey's Anatomy Season 23?

In the penultimate episode of Season 22, Dr. Kwan (Harry Shum Jr.) was fired after it was discovered that he had given an experimental non-FDA treatment to a patient. However, the finale brought about an "all-hands-on-deck" situation, putting him back into action. Despite the pitch he made to Richard (James Pickens Jr.) about his sterling record up to that point, he did not renege on his decision. It remains to be seen if Kwan will show up in Season 23 in some capacity, or if he's left the show for good.

Was Javier Bardem on Grey's Anatomy?

No, Javier Bardem was not on Grey's Anatomy. However, many people think that because of his resemblance to actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who starred as heart transplant patient Denny Duquette in Season 2. The two not only look similar but are only three years apart in age (Bardem is younger). You may recognize Morgan for his more recent and higher-profile role as Negan Smith on The Walking Dead.

Denny remains a memorable character to Grey's fans because of his role in a powerful storyline with Dr. Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) during his time at Seattle Grace awaiting the transplant. While the character's fate is tragic, he continues to factor heavily in Stevens' story for several more seasons.

How did Grey's Anatomy Season 22 end?

As mentioned above the Grey's Season 22 finale saw Owen and Teddy make the decision to leave the hospital for Europe, after the former was put in crisis mode following a bridge collapsing. Also involved in the bridge collapse was Nick (Scott Speedman), who arrived at the hospital in critical condition. After undergoing a successful surgery, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) declared to him that they should get married and he happily agreed! But not every relationship had a happy ending. Most pertinently, the situation between Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) and Toni (Jen Landon) ended with the latter's declaration of love. But things immediately became complicated when she opened Amelia's door, only to discover she was sleeping with Cass (Sophia Bush)

Legendary ’80s Drummer Shares Rare Look Into Iconic Band’s Peak Rock Star Years

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 10:48am

Gina Schock, the legendary drummer for the all-female girl group The Go-Go’s, is offering fans a rare peek into the band’s peak rock star era. Sharing decades of rare photos, artifacts, and tour memories, a special exhibition at Haight Street Art Center in San Francisco invites fans to travel back to a time when “We Got the Beat” and “Our Lips Are Sealed” dominated the airwaves.

Can’t make it to the West Coast? Rolling Stone just published several of Schock’s archives, with commentary from the drummer herself. And it’s totally worth a scroll. Should you be able to visit the City by the Bay, A View From the Throne: Gina Schock - Inside the Go-Go’schronicles Schock’s career, from her time with Edith Massey’s punk band all the way to The Go-Go's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021. "I've been the archivist for the band since the beginning," Schock tells Rolling Stone. "I have so much stuff that I've collected over the years, and I want to share it with everyone. This exhibition is about my life as an adult, and my family, the girls in the band — we all grew up together. When you look at the photos we took, you can remember everything that was happening at that moment in time and during that period of time.”

Whether in person or by magazine proxy, the exhibition is an all-access pass to all things totally ’80s and totally awesome, with Belinda Carlisle, Jane Wiedlin, Margot Olavarria, and Charlotte Caffey, all making cameos. Schock even donated the drum kit she rocked out on for her band’s induction into the Hall of Fame.

“I used that kit for [the Go-Go’s] Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction,” Shock tell RS. “DW built me that kit last year. A lot of times when you’re not playing in the city or whatever, or if you’re not on tour, they give you a rented kit. But I actually had my drums brought out for that show for when we played, and it made me feel really comfortable.”

Here’s hoping the walk down memory lane does the same for you.

Martha Stewart Shared Her Tips for Keeping Cut Flowers Fresh For Longer, Just in Time for Mother's Day Bouquets

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 10:46am

If anyone knows about floral etiquette, it's Martha Stewart. And fortunately, with Mother's Day around the corner, the home decor and flower savant just shared a blog post about how to help keep flowers fresh for as long as possible.

Her blog post also included a few tidbits on how to arrange flowers in small vases for a dinner party — and I'll definitely be keeping her wise words in mind this spring. Read on for Martha Stewart's latest floral tips!

How to Keep Flowers Fresh for Longer, According to Martha Stewart

"Whenever arranging cut flowers, it is important to cut any leaves that sit below the waterline," Stewart wrote in a recent blog post, titled "Preparing for a Spring Dinner at My Farm."

That's because leaves touching water can harbor bacteria and make your blooms decay quickly, per Locker's Flowers. So, Stewart explained, chopping off leaves that reach the water when you arrange your bouquets can help curb bacteria from growing and therefore help your flowers last longer.

She also noted that when arranging a bouquet, you should cut each flower stem — and that you should put it in the vase immediately after cutting.

"Give each flower stem a fresh cut to the right height for the vase," she wrote. "Putting them in water soon after cutting prevents stems from sealing, which can slow water uptake and reduce freshness."

View this post on Instagram How to Arrange Fresh Flowers on a Dinner Table, According to Martha Stewart

Stewart also shared a few easy tips for displaying floral arrangements for a dinner party.

"Centerpieces don’t have to be elaborate – a few flowers placed in glass containers is easy to do the day before the gathering," Stewart wrote. "I like to keep similar colors and varieties together, but they can also be mixed depending on preference."

And while some people may think of flowers on a dinner table as a centerpiece, Stewart prefers a differfent arrangement: "a vessel of blooms between each pair of place settings."

Not only does this mean the flowers are more evenly distributed across the table for all guests to enjoy, but it also means no one is stuck behind a 4-foot-tall centerpiece that blocks their view, as long as you "remember to keep them at a height where conversations are not blocked."

And finally, Stewart suggested doing all this the day before your dinner party. She explained: "Setting the table ahead of time prevents last-minute issues and allows more time for focusing on the food and the guests."

Celebrity Book Clubs Are Driving May’s Biggest Reading Trends

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 10:40am

The influence of celebrity book clubs is once again shaping what readers are picking up this month.

High-profile figures like Oprah Winfrey and Reese Witherspoon have revealed their latest selections for May, continuing a trend that has helped define modern reading culture. Their picks often translate into immediate bestseller status, sometimes within days. Recent roundups from outlets including Page Six highlighted how closely readers still follow these monthly announcements.

What makes these book clubs so effective is their reach. Each announcement is amplified across social media, television appearances and dedicated online communities. Readers are hearing and seeing these books discussed, recommended and shared across multiple platforms at once.

That level of visibility has turned celebrity selections into a powerful force within publishing. A single endorsement can introduce a title to millions of potential readers, many of whom may not actively follow traditional literary coverage. In that sense, these book clubs function as both tastemakers and entry points.

The May selections are already reflecting that impact. Coverage from outlets like Page Six’s latest roundup and ongoing updates from publishers and booksellers have highlighted the new picks, while early reader reactions are spreading quickly online. The result is a familiar pattern, where a handful of titles begin to dominate conversation.

Related: BookCon 2026’s Chaotic Comeback Has Fans Questioning What Went Wrong

May’s celebrity book club picks included a wide range of buzzy new titles already gaining traction with readers. Reese Witherspoon selected The Fine Art of Lying by Alexandra Andrews for Reese’s Book Club, while Jenna Bush Hager chose Gillian McAllister’s thriller Caller Unknown for her 'Read With Jenna' club. Oprah Winfrey spotlighted Douglas Stuart’s John of John, and Dua Lipa picked Claire Keegan’s So Late in the Day for her Service95 Book Club. Other notable selections included Lena Dunham’s Famesick for Natalie Portman’s book club and Almost Life by Kiran Millwood Hargrave for Emma RobertsBelletrist community.

There is also a broader appeal at play. Celebrity book clubs tend to focus on accessible, emotionally engaging stories, making them easy recommendations for a wide audience. That aligns closely with what many readers are looking for, particularly as summer approaches and reading becomes more of a leisure activity.

At the same time, the trend continues to evolve. Some book clubs are expanding their scope, highlighting debut authors or exploring genres that might not have received mainstream attention in the past. That shift is helping diversify what reaches bestseller lists.

For readers, the benefit is clear. Instead of sorting through countless options, they can rely on curated selections that have already generated conversation. Whether it is a novel that sparks discussion or one that simply offers an engaging escape, the appeal is immediate.

As May unfolds, the latest picks are likely to continue gaining traction. The combination of star power and genuine reader interest remains a potent mix, ensuring that celebrity book clubs will keep shaping reading habits for the foreseeable future.

King Charles Makes Noticeable Change Involving Meghan Markle

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 10:30am

King Charles III's private residence in Gloucestershire appears to have undergone a subtle refresh just in time for the spring season.

Royal photographer Chris Jackson offered a closer look inside the monarch’s beloved Highgrove estate during a private event, sharing a series of images on social media.

One photo captured a small wooden table with a blue and white plate and silver framed photographs of the King with his grandchild, Prince Louis, while the second photo featured him together with his sons, Prince Harry and Prince William.

“I recognized this,” Jackson captioned the Instagram Story, seemingly hinting that he personally took the photographs.

Following the subtle shake-up at the Highgrove estate, eagle-eyed royal observers immediately spotted small yet noticeable changes inside the residence.

In a report cited by Hello! magazine, the publication pointed out photographs previously seen inside the residence that appeared to be missing from the recent post.

While two photos featured the same spot with the same plate and the exact framed photo of the trio, there were missing photographs featured in the post.

View this post on Instagram

Among them was a portrait of the King and his wife Queen Camilla, as well as the family photo taken during Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding in 2018.

The outlet also resurfaced the exact image featuring the display, which was previously filmed inside the Highgrove estate in 2024 by prominent British luxury lifestyle, fashion and beauty influencer Lydia Millen.

What Happened to King Charles III’s Relationship With Meghan Markle

Since Prince Harry and his wife made the bold decision to step back as senior royals in 2020, their relationship with other members of the family, including the 77-year-old monarch, has become complicated.

At that time, reports suggest that the then heir to the throne stopped taking his son’s calls during the couple’s transition to private life.

Things worsened after the bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, when Meghan Markle and Prince Harry expressed concerns over alleged racism and unconscious bias, which led to emotional distress and isolation.

However, recent reports suggest the King is “full of regret” over the long-running rift within the family.

"I think King Charles is full of regret over the whole situation; he definitely wouldn't have wanted it to go this way," Royal expert Duncan Larcombe told The Mirror, adding, “He has spoken about how much he enjoys being a grandparent.”

King Charles has two grandchildren from Prince Harry, Prince Archie, now 7 years old, and four-year-old Princess Lilibet, while his grandchildren from Prince William are Prince George, Princess Charlotte and their youngest, Prince Louis.

1999 Cult Classic Film Based on a Book Originally Bombed at the Box Office

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 10:26am

No one was talking about Fight Club when it first came out — but the dark psychological thriller would later become one of the biggest cult classic films of the 1990s.

Directed by David Fincher, the 1999 fan-favorite film was based on Chuck Palahniuk's 1996 novel of the same name, and famously stars Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. A commentary on toxic masculinity, consumerism and more, Fight Club is now frequently regarded as a cinematic masterpiece, though it certainly had a rocky start with moviegoers at first.

🎬SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox🎬

When it first released, the film only grossed around $37 million domestically against a $63 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo. Norton, who plays the Narrator in the movie, has previously said that the film wasn't marketed properly.

"I think there was a reluctance on the part of some of the people who were actually marketing it, to embrace the idea that it was funny, and honestly I think they felt indicted by it," Norton said in 2019, per WGTC, calling the movie a "tough one to distill."

"It was an interesting experience because we all loved it and we were very confident about it. We were a little stung," he added.

But Fight Club would eventually have its day in the sun, as it later sold $13 million in DVDs. Fans who appreciated the satirical film have since awarded the movie with glowing reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an 81 percent score on the Tomatometer (critics' ratings) and a 96 percent score on the Popcornmeter (audience ratings).

Rolling Stoneranks it at No. 19 on the 100 Greatest Movies of the '90s list. It also placed No. 1 on Collider's list of the 10 Most Perfect Thriller Movie Endings.

It also has a 4.3-star average rating on Letterboxd, and ranks at No. 200 on the platform's official list of the Top 500 Films of All Time.

Looking Back on Her Twenties

On her popular podcast, Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky, Lewinsky recently spoke about what led her to make "bad decisions" in her twenties. She shared that a desire to feel "special" sometimes led her to do things she regretted, and that sometimes got her in trouble.

"I think in some ways that's part of what got me in a lot of trouble in my early 20s of looking for and wanting to be special and feeling that feeling of specialness, of validation," she said during an episode that featured Laura Day, an American writer and author of several self-help books, focusing on intuition, Fox News shared. "And when it came, I fell into that, making bad decisions a lot of times, not just in D.C., but a lot of different ways."

Check out Lewinsky's discussion with Day below:

Lewinsky's Podcast Was a Jeopardy Answer

You know you've made it when your podcast is a Jeopardy answer! Last week, Lewinsky took to Instagram with excitement when she discovered that her hit podcast was an answer on Jeopardy.

Viewers Finally Get a First Look at 'Batman 2' – And Early Reactions Couldn't Be More Surprising: 'My Mind is Blown'

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 10:14am

After nearly half a decade of anxious waiting, DC is finally giving fans a first glimpse into their highly anticipated The Batman: Part II.

According to Variety, the two new images shared from the film specifically confirm two things: one, that the sequel is seemingly set in winter, with a snow-covered Gotham City prominently featured; and two, the Batmobile will officially make its return.

The new images mark the first major look at the highly anticipated sequel to see a release from the studio. As expected, the much-anticipated sequel has been the subject of intense scrutiny from casual viewers and dedicated superhero fans alike, with many audience members poring every detail related to the film that makes its way to the public spotlight.

As of yet, little is actually known about The Batman: Part II, with the movie still largely confined to its earliest stage as it begins production. The sequel is currently slated for release on October 1, 2027, with filming set to commence this summer in London.

As previously stated, anticipation for Batman 2 remains at an all-time high, with many eagerly awaiting the sequel's imminent arrival.

Given audiences' interest in the film, it should hardly come as a surprise that some viewers expressed dissatisfaction with the first images shared of the film, as seen through the various comments on Variety's Facebook post about the story.

"This is just in, new The Batman 2 spoilers reveal Batman will still have a car and also there's snow," one account shared. "Mind=blown."

Others, meanwhile, criticized the significant amount of time between the filming of each project, with one user writing, "That only took 3,000 years."

In contrast, many other fans wrote about their personal excitement for the film, most especially the prospect of seeing a sequel set against the grim backdrop of winter.

"So this is going to be set in the snow!" one fan wrote. "That's honestly really dope since the first movie is set in Halloween/fall, the second movie set in winter, third movie should be set in spring, symbolizing a new beginning."

1983 Pop Classic, Once Banned by Radio Stations, Became a Controversial No. 1 Hit

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 10:09am

The catchy beat and edge of a British track in 1983 became a staple among young listeners, but its marketing and overall sexually driven lyrics led to scrutiny. Frankie Goes to Hollywood released their debut single, which didn't sit well with radio stations and led to it being banned.

The provocative lyrics of "Relax" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood don't go unnoticed, with the track having undergone multiple changes before it was officially released as the band's debut single. Singer Holly Johnson developed the track while walking down a street in Liverpool. The band would later debut an early version of "Relax" on the Channel 4 show The Tube. What caught immediate attention was not only the lyrics and sound, but the band performing in fetish wear.

According to Genius.com, ZTT Records co-founder and producer Trevor Horn watched their initial performance. Still, he didn't sign them on until hearing the track again on DJ David Jensen’s radio show on BBC Radio 1. Horn ended up creating multiple versions of "Relax" until settling on its final version that was released in October 1983.

What made the track soar on the charts in the UK and land at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts was its marketing and subsequent ban by radio stations. ZTT co-founder Paul Morley developed a campaign based on the track's themes of sex, war, religion, and the open LGBTQ status of Johnson and Paul Rutherford.

Morley developed two quarter-page ads with photos of Johnson with a shaved head and gloves, and Rutherford wearing a leather vest and sailor cap. He captioned the ad with, "ALL THE NICE BOYS LOVE SEA MEN" and a sexual innuendo promo. "Relax" wasn't a chart-topping success at first, with a slow climb that was later fueled by the band's performance on a BBC flagship show, Top of the Pops.

What led "Relax" to soar on the charts and become one of the biggest UK debut singles was  Radio 1 disc jockey Mike Read's dislike for the track. He voiced his opinion on the suggestive sleeve and its main chorus: "Relax, don't do it/ When you want to suck, chew it/ Relax, don't do it/ When you want to come." As a result, BBC Radiobanned the single from airing on its stations for weeks.

In reality, the radio ban worked in favor of Frankie Goes to Hollywood and the single. It rose to No. 2 on the UK charts and later became a No. 1 hit on the UK Singles charts. The track held its spot for five weeks before its decline, and regained traction after the band released their follow-up track "Two Tribes." The BBC's ban on the track was later lifted in 1984, with the track's sexual lyrics and scandal further fuelling sales.

The track wasn't just banned by the BBC, but so was its music video. "Relax" first official music video was also reported to have been banned by MTV and BBC due to its S&M theme at an LGBTQ nightclub. A second version was filmed but was banned completely by the BBC and never broadcast, with a live performance version later recorded.

25+ Women in the Bible Who Teach Us About Patience, Strength and Faithfulness

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 10:00am

While a few paragraphs in a single article cannot pay homage to the many women of God we read about in the holy scriptures, it's a wonderful starting place. Whether their mention is a handful of verses, a chapter or an entire book, these women were faithful to what God asked of them. These women in the Bible are an inspiration to all of us—men and women alike.

Times, they were ancient. We can't fully comprehend what it was like to serve Yahweh in an Old Testament culture of regional, pagan gods. Turning to the New Testament, we're still learning how Jesus Christ's encounters with women gave them a new and greater identity than they had in their own day and time. What we can realize is how these women learned to trust in God—at times in the most impossible of circumstances—when it certainly seemed like the odds were stacked against them. Here are 25+ biblical women who have much to teach us about strength, perseverance and faith.

25+ Women in the Bible to Look Up To

Canva/Parade

1. Eve

She's there in the beginning. In the earliest chapters of Genesis, we read about God creating her to be a companion for man. Together, Adam and Eve get themselves kicked out of the Garden of Eden. Then, they suffer through the loss of Abel and the exile of Cain. Eve gave birth to Abel, Cain, Seth and other sons and daughters (Genesis 5).

And we're just five chapters into the Bible! When I read Eve's story, it leaves me tired. Every day must have felt new. She suffered enormous loss but showed great resilience. I wonder how often she thought back to those early days in the garden, the face-to-face conversations with God before everything changed. Oh, to know that kind of intimacy with God. Doesn't the following verse have a familiarity to it, like this kind of thing happened all the time? "They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze...among the trees of the garden" (Genesis 3:8).

2. Sarah

Along with her father-in-law, Terah, husband, Abraham and nephew, Lot, Sarah moved far away from home. Twice. She was also one of several women who suffered from infertility in the Bible. After suggesting Abraham go to her handmaid, Hagar, Sarah turned pretty bitter about how things turned out. That is, until she was 90, when "God did for Sarah as he had promised" (Genesis 21:1) and she conceived a boy who Abraham named Isaac.

Sarah could speak to the idea that good things come to those who wait. She spent the last thirty years of her life enjoying her family and is a matriarch of the people of God. Sarah, your descendants are as numerous as the stars.

3. Hagar

She has the honor of being the mother to Abraham's first-born son, Ishmael. Reading her story in Genesis 16, 17 and 21 will break a reader's heart. Did she have a voice in her circumstances at all? After Abraham took her and their son out into the wilderness for good, could she hear the sound of wild animals there? What must it have been like for her to watch her son dying of thirst?

With God's help, Hagar found a way to raise Ishmael into adulthood. We read that he grew up there in the wilderness, and his mother got him a wife from Egypt. How many times over the years did she think back to another time she spent in the wilderness, after running away from Sarah? The time the angel of the Lord found her, assuring her that her offspring would be great, and she knew God to be El-roi, the God of seeing (Genesis 16:13).

4. Rebekah

When their son was old enough to take a wife, Abraham made his servant promise he wouldn't get a wife for Isaac from the Canaanite women. He wanted a young maiden from his own kin. So, the servant went back home, and he returned with Rebekah, who had shown him great kindness. However, she also turned out to be a crafty one, a trait she likely learned from her brother, Laban, and passed on to her son. Isaac repeated a lot of his father's mistakes, but he and Rebekah did manage to start a family (after she was barren for a time)—twin boys, Esau and Jacob.

For all intents and purposes, it would appear they played favorites with their boys. Although a word from the Lord at their birth might have had something to do with that (see Genesis 25:23). She had trouble with Esau and his wife (Genesis 26:35) and ended up sending Jacob away to get a wife from their relatives (thus getting him away from Esau because plenty of animosity existed between the two brothers by this point). In the end, though, because of Rebekah's faithful life, she mothered great nations.

5. Rachel

For the 14+ years Jacob was in Haran, he took on two wives who were sisters. In all, he would father twelve sons and one daughter, with the two wives and their servants. Life in the Jacob-Leah-Rachel household was a lot. Throw in a move back to Canaan, where Rachel died giving birth to Jacob's last son, Benjamin.

She was buried there, still some distance from "Ephrath, (that is, Bethlehem)" (Genesis 35:19). Thousands still visit her tomb today. Perhaps her greatest legacy, what we can especially admire Rachel for, is the gift of her son, Joseph. After suffering from years of infertility herself, Joseph was her firstborn. It was Joseph who would save the Israelite people from starving to death when there was a great famine in the land.

6. Leah

The other half of the sister combo married Jacob. Although she gave Jacob many sons and a daughter, the Bible makes it clear she wasn't loved by Jacob in the same way he loved Rachel. How that must have devastated her.

You can trace Leah's emotional journey through the names she selected for her four sons. From Reuben (See, A Son), to Simeon (He who hears), to Levi (attached to each other) to Judah (Now I will praise the Lord), the life of Leah teaches us we may not always receive the favor of man, but the Lord always looks on us with favor. He alone is praiseworthy.

7. Tamar

There are a few chapters toward the end of Genesis that focus on Judah, who is Jacob's fourth son. One verse in the ancestry of Jesus, found in Matthew 1 shed light on this time in patriarchal history: "Judah the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, and Perez the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Aram" (Matthew 1:3).

We're sometimes quick to glance over these lists of names in the Bible but don't skip over Tamar. You can read her story in Genesis 38, but be warned, it is not an easy one. Tamar laid claim to her rights by Levirite law, and the Abrahamic line was blessed again with twins. A bold story of throwing caution to the wind. That Matthew would know the details of this ancient story and be guided to include Tamar in his genealogy of Jesus might just have surprised him, too.

8. Miriam

Two images of Miriam show her to be a woman of leadership and strength. First, when her brother, Moses, was put in the Nile River, hidden away from those who would carry out the Pharaoh's edict to kill all Hebrew baby boys, Miriam stood nearby. When the baby in a basket was discovered by the Pharaoh's daughter, Miriam showed great bravery and wisdom, offering to find a Hebrew woman to nurse him (Exodus 2).

The second instance happened years later, along the shoreline of the Red Sea (Exodus 15). In a poetic rendition of the earliest days of the Exodus, the Lord had just brought the Israelites through the Red Sea unharmed, while Pharaoh's men and horses were drowned in the sea. "Then the prophet Miriam, Aaron's sister, took a tambourine in her hand; and all the women went out after her with tambourines and with dancing" (Exodus 15:20).

9. Rahab

Here, we have another one of the women listed in the genealogy of Jesus in Matthew 1. The Israelites have made it out of Egypt, and through the wilderness, and are in the Promised Land. Specifically, Jericho. Without knowing the full context of the culture of the times, the second chapter of Joshua tells us Rahab was a prostitute.

Rahab assists the Israelite men who were sent to spy out the land. She lived on the walls of Jericho and helped them escape after they'd found out what they needed to know. Later, they spared her and her family before destroying the city. Why? Here's what Rahab knew to be true: "The Lord your God is indeed God in heaven above and on earth below" (Joshua 2:11b).

10. Deborah

In the midst of the chaos we read about in the book of Judges, there are two heroic women who emerge victorious over their enemies. Deborah has credentials; prophetess, wife and judge (think chieftain, not court-of-law judge). She led Barak and thousands of Israelite warriors into battle against King Jabin, a Canaanite king. They were victorious (see Judges 5). This led to the very best news we can read in Judges: "And the land had rest forty years" (Judges 5:31b).

11. Jael

No story about Deborah, and certainly no story about Barak, would be complete without including Jael. When Barak requested Deborah's assistance in battle, she said, "I will surely go with you; nevertheless, the road on which you are going will not lead to your glory, for the Lord will deliver Sisera [general of King Jabin's army] into the hand of a woman" (Joshua 4:9a).

When Sisera showed up at Jael's doorstep, she invited him in. She covered him with a rug, gave him a drink and he fell asleep. It was then she took a tent peg, grabbed a hammer and drove the peg into his temple. The woman who did what she had to do—you don't mess around with Jael.

12. Ruth

At the end of the biblical period, known as "Judges," similar to the concept of a chieftain, we have the book of Ruth. She's one of two women to have an entire book in the Bible. In the opening chapters of Ruth, we read about how hard life has been for a Jewish woman named Naomi up to that point. Along with her husband and their two sons, they left Bethlehem due to a famine. They settled into this foreign land, and the sons both found wives. First, the husband, and years later, the sons, died.

What choice does Naomi have but to return home? In a rather moving scene, one daughter-in-law, Orpah, chooses to return to her own family, while Ruth proclaims: "Where you go, I will go; where you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God my God" (Ruth 1:16). She never waivers in that commitment. It brings healing and provision in both her own life and in the life of Naomi. Ruth, too, has the honor of being named in the genealogy of Jesus, which we find in Matthew 1.

13. Hannah

This devoted woman joined the group of biblical women who suffered from a barren womb. In the opening chapters of I Samuel (slight spoiler alert, the book is so named after her son), we find Hannah crying out to God in the Tabernacle at Shiloh. She knew the best place to take her tears was to the Lord. The priest, Eli, saw how upset she was and took her to be drunk. Not so!

In 1 Samuel 1:20, we read that "in due time" (read in God's time), Hannah had not only a son named Samuel but other children as well. As she had promised God, she gave Samuel back to him for a lifetime of service. Such a picture of trust and devotion!

14. Bathsheba

By the time we read about Bathsheba, we've made our way into the era of kings. Although he already had wives, King David decided he wanted Bathsheba, too. There's plenty of debate about how much control, if any, Bathsheba had in this decision that upended her life. There's much to this story we do not know, but Bathsheba shows great resolve and strength throughout.

From the days of losing her first husband, moving into the king's household, mourning the death of her infant child and raising Israel's next king, Bathsheba endures. She is the final Old Testament woman mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus, referenced there simply as "Uriah's wife." Except there's nothing simple about that.

15. Proverbs 31 Woman

Judaism has given us a tremendous gift in their handling of this epic poem about an anonymous woman we can certainly look up to. If we take each task, "brings her food from far away," "her lamp does not go out at night" and "makes herself coverings," for example, modern-day women are left with a to-do list that feels impossible. Is impossible.

Jewish families traditionally have sung this final section of Proverbs over the women in the household on Friday evenings at the beginning of Shabbat. It's an ode to women, metaphorical at every turn. According to an article in MyJewishLearning, "A woman who knows when to be fluid and when to be firm, when to exercise lovingkindness and when to establish boundaries, and who recognizes those rare occasions when it’s proper to exhibit both is a woman whose mouth speaks wisdom, whose children celebrate her, and who laughs into age old." In Hebrew, Eschet Chayil is "woman of valor."

16. Huldah

One of the many joys of studying the Bible fervently is the discovery of women (and men) whom we might not have learned about in Sunday School. They're the faithful who are tucked away in obscure passages, in lesser-read books like Chronicles, for example. That's where we find the prophetess Huldah.

In the long line of Old Testament kings, we read about good kings, bad kings and kings who were a little of both. King Josiah, for example, began his reign at eight years old! At a time when the southern kingdom desperately needed reform, the king was reintroduced to the words of the law. He realized how far away from God the people were. He sent some of his men to Huldah, who lived in Jerusalem. She was doing the work God had for her to do. When asked, she delivered the word of the Lord, full of bad news and good news. What a faithful servant.

17. Esther

Along with Ruth, Queen Esther has her own book in the canon of scripture. Her story takes place toward the end of the Old Testament, although we find the book itself located earlier on among the historical books of the Bible. The Hebrew people have been scattered, and Esther is living in Persia. Through a rather unfortunate series of events, King Ahasuerus finds himself looking for a new queen. At the bidding of her relative, Mordecai, Esther agreed to join the other women vying for the king's approval.

She did win the king's favor, becoming the next queen, which ended up being a life-saving maneuver, as the people of God found themselves under attack from the evil Haman, an Agagite (indicating this feud went way back in history). Queen Esther was called upon to speak up on behalf of her people, although for her, it could mean her own death. Asking the Jews to fast (which indicates a time of intense prayer and seeking of the Lord) on her behalf, the actions of Esther did, in fact, save her people.

18. Elizabeth

At the beginning of the New Testament narrative, the gospel writer, Luke, introduces us to Elizabeth and her husband, Zechariah, who is a priest. The couple was struggling with infertility, until, in her old age, an angel of the Lord appeared to Zechariah while he was serving in the Temple and told him they would have a son, who was to be named John.

Their son would become John the Baptist, the forerunner for the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Consider it a great gift bestowed on Elizabeth that her relative, Mary, came to visit her when she found herself with child. Further down in the first chapter of Luke, we read about the greeting between these two women upon Mary's arrival. "When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the child leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed with a loud cry, 'Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb'" (Luke 1:41-42).

19. Mary, the Mother of Jesus

There is no one we can look up to more than Mary, the mother of Jesus. Her humble yes, "Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word" (Luke 1:38). Her song, the Magnificat, where she shared her belief in a God who would do everything he promised, and she was blessed for it.

And Mary said, 'My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on, all generations will call me blessed.'" Luke 1:46-48

20. Martha (and Mary)

Friends of Jesus. We look up to them for that alone. In the notable story of the two sisters at their house when Jesus came to visit (Luke 10:38-42), We can admire Martha for her heart of service. When one's heart is in the right place, we so need people willing to take action. We can admire Mary for her contemplative nature, for having the privilege of literally sitting at the feet of Jesus. Can you imagine?

They walked through grief with Jesus, too, at the death of their brother Lazarus, and later at the crucifixion. Being companions in grief is a deep connection that surely only heightened their love of our Lord.

21. The Women of Luke 8

It's but a mention, but imagining the context shows this faithful throng of women who gave up whatever it was they had to do, so they could follow Jesus.

"Soon afterward, he went on through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. The twelve were with him, as well as some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities; Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, and Joanna, the wife of Herod's steward Chuza, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their resources" (Luke 8:1-3).

22. The Woman at the Well

Tradition gives her the name, Photini. The gospel of John calls her simply, the Samaritan at the well. For lots of reasons, she wasn't someone Jesus should be talking to alone. He always seemed to be setting aside cultural expectations to make real connections with people. They talked about religion, a history of two people groups and living water.

She believed him, and in those early moments of belief, she knew her life could be different. She knew this encounter with Jesus would change her forever. And she went, and she told everyone in her city. "Come and see a man who told me everything I have ever done! He cannot be the Messiah, can he?" (John 4:29).

23. The Woman Who Bled for Twelve Years

Tradition gives her the name Veronica, and there are some beautiful stories told about her presence on the Via Dolorosa. In scripture, we read about her in the eighth chapter of Luke. She'd been bleeding for twelve years, and no amount of money or physician's visits had helped. She came to Jesus out of desperation.

All she did was touch the fringe of his clothes, and she was completely healed. What kind of healing power occurs just from a simple touch? Jesus knew it, too. Without her identifying herself, he knew power had left his body. He looked for her. Upon finding her, she's the only woman in the Bible whom Jesus called, "Daughter."

24. The Women at the Cross

There at the crucifixion. They would not lead their Lord to suffer alone. Such devotion, no matter what it cost. "Meanwhile, standing near the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene." John 19:25

25. The Women at the Tomb

They were at the tomb to ensure Jesus had a proper burial. Perhaps they had no idea how to let him go. There at the empty tomb, witnesses of the resurrection. Hallelujah.

"The women who had come with him from Galilee followed, and they saw the tomb and how his body was laid. Then they returned, and prepared spices and ointments...But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb, taking the spices that they had prepared. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in, they did not find the body." Luke 23:55-56a, 24:1-3

26. Phoebe

Paul introduces us to Phoebe in the final chapter of Romans. It would seem she delivered the letter to the Romans, possibly instructing the recipients on the contents and meaning of the hefty teachings in the letter. Paul identified her as a deacon as well as a benefactor to many—including himself.

We're learning more all the time about the women of the early church and the various roles they held. Phoebe's position (and Christian character) was definitely one of respect and authority.

27. Junia

In the same chapter, Romans 16, amidst the names of other women we can learn more about someday, we find Junia. She'd been a Christ follower longer than Paul and, apparently, she and Andronicus, her companion, were fellow Jews who'd been in prison with Paul at some point. The phrase that lingers, so poignant, is this: "They are prominent among the apostles" (Romans 16:7).

What Has the ‘Jersey Shore’ Cast Told Their Kids About the Show?

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 9:54am

‘Cab’s are here,’ and it’s time to say goodbye to the GTL gang. Snooki, Deena, Pauly D, JWoww, Vinny, The Situation, Sammi Sweetheart, Ronnie, and Angelina recently returned to the small screen for their last season of Jersey Shore, and ‘Family Vacation’ has a whole new meaning for this group of friends.

Way back in 2009, MTV gathered a group of strangers in a Shore house, creating a Jersey-style version of the network’s iconic reality show The Real World. Fast forward to 2026, and the hard-partying, fist-pumping group of 20-somethings has toned things down…a bit. And now that most of the cast have kids, fans are wondering, “What do they tell their own children about those first few wild seasons at the Jersey Shore?”

Most of the original Jersey Shore cast are parents. Vinny and Angelina are the only two who don’t have children yet. The infamous “Keto Guido” Vinnie Guadagnino is still a bachelor, and Angelina (who was married to Chris Marangeira from 2019 until 2022) split from her fiancé Vinny Tortorella in 2025.

So, how many kids do the other castmates have?

Snooki Has Three Children

In a recent interview with Decider, Deena shared, “My kids are on the show a lot. Um, they actually know all of the camera guys. They know all the sound guys and ladies. All the producers. So they feel very cozy on it. They’re very aware I’m on a show.” She continued, “I feel like eventually my kids are going to come across things, and it is what it is, but it’s why they have their lives today.”

Ronnie admitted that his daughter Ariana sends him YouTube videos from the show’s earlier days. And how does he react to those clips? Ortiz-Magro laughs, joking, “It was acting. That’s what I told her.”

Snookie revealed now that her children are older, “They see things on TikTok and I’m still at the point where I’m like, that was acting.” She continued, “But I think Lorenzo’s now like ‘Mom, I see you drink wine. I see you get silly.’ So, I feel like the oldest are like, yeah, they understand. Mommy was young and enjoying myself.” The Situation chimed in, saying he hopes that his kids will watch the Family Vacation series first, but, “If that doesn’t work, I was an actor.”

1970 Innuendo-Laced Soft Rock No. 1 Ranks Among the ‘70s Greatest Love Songs

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 9:50am

One of the early 1970s’ most beloved soft rock hits has earned a lasting place among the decade’s greatest love songs, thanks in part to its smooth sound and subtly suggestive lyrics.

In June 1970, Bread released "Make It With You." The song quickly shot to the top of the charts, reaching the No. 1 position on the Billboard Top 100 on August 22 and staying steady for an astonishing 17 weeks on the chart.

Gold Radio placed the song at No. 22 on its list of the 25 Best Love Songs of the 1970s. It was ranked between "Love Will Keep Us Together" by Captain & Tennille and "Lovely Day" by Bill Withers.

The song, written by David Gates, was a collaborative effort between Gates and drummer Mike Botts reported Rhino. Gates sang lead and harmonies, including acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass, and strings.

"Make It With You" hails from Bread's second release, On the Waters. The song was the LP's biggest hit and would propel the album to No. 12 on the Billboard charts reported American Songwriter.

In a hilarious twist, the success of "Make It With You" was remarkable even to Gates' mother, reports Rhino.

The website wrote, "When the press got in touch with Gates’s mother and asked her about her son’s success, she acknowledged her pride in her boy, but she admitted that she didn’t understand why he had to go and title his band’s new single 'Naked with You.'"

"Make It With You" has all the elements of a great soft rock song. It's lyrics carry a subtle sense of innuendo that helped define its lasting appeal.

Gates' lyrics share his want of letting a new relationship unfold naturally. He suggests he and his new love build something meaningful together. "Make It With You" could refer to a physical relationship or a lasting bond, such as making it through life's challenges together.

David Gates retired from the music industry in the early 2000s. He is the last surviving member of Bread's principal lineup, which included Jimmy Griffin and Mike Botts (d. 2005), and Larry Knechtel (d. 2009) reported Pacific Coast Radio.

Here’s Exactly What Happens to Your Cholesterol When You Eat Bananas

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 9:50am

Bananas are notoriously high in potassium, an electrolyte that’s important for fluid balance, nerve impulses and muscle contractions. It’s why they’re often handed out at the end of races, sports games or other high-traffic areas for a group of sweaty people.

But bananas do more for the body than replenish electrolytes after working out. For example, bananas help support healthy blood pressure when eaten regularly because the potassium it contains helps the body get rid of excess sodium through the kidneys. This reduces fluid retention and eases pressure on blood vessel walls. Eating bananas regularly also helps with digestion due to the fruit’s fiber content, makes losing weight easier and supports the immune system.

According to two cardiologists and a cardiac dietitian we talked to, eating bananas also supports healthy cholesterol levels. Considering that millions of adults in the U.S. have high cholesterol, this is pretty important information. When cholesterol levels remain high, it increases the risk of heart attack, stroke and heart disease, which is the number one cause of death in the U.S.

Just how much can incorporating bananas into your diet impact your cholesterol? Keep reading to find out.

How Bananas Impact Cholesterol

“Bananas are an excellent food that contributes to supporting healthy cholesterol levels as part of a balanced diet,” says Dr. Nadim Geloo, MD, an interventional cardiologist and the senior director of medical affairs at Abbott’s structural heart division.

He explains that this is because bananas are high in soluble fiber, which helps reduce LDL or ‘bad’ cholesterol, manage blood pressure and remove cholesterol from the body.

Dr. Sean Mendez, MD, a cardiologist at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital and Weill Cornell Medicine, says that soluble fiber is not broken down by human digestive enzymes. This, he explains, allows it to bind to bile acids that are made from cholesterol, trapping it in the gut and preventing its usual reabsorption into the body. This process removes the cholesterol from the body, which then lowers total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol.

In addition to bananas’ high soluble fiber content, bananas are naturally very low in saturated fat, which also helps support cholesterol levels.

“Bananas also contain antioxidants, including vitamin C and various phytochemicals, which help to combat oxidative stress and inflammation in the body, both of which can be linked to cholesterol-related complications,” Dr. Geloo says.

Gabrielle Gambino, RD, an advanced clinical dietitian with the advanced heart failure service at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, says that less-ripe bananas actually contain more fiber than super ripe ones, so to get the most soluble fiber out of the fruit, go for bananas that aren’t fully ripe yet.

Just how much does eating bananas regularly impact cholesterol? According to one scientific study, eating between 250 and 500 grams of bananas a day (about the size of one large banana) for 12 weeks improved the ratio of LDL to HDL cholesterol by 11%, which is pretty significant for one food!

While bananas are a heart-healthy food, Gambino warns against eating them excessively because they contain a high amount of natural sugar. Like most foods, it’s best to eat bananas in moderation, not having more than one a day.

What To Pair With Your Banana To Maximize Its Benefits

As you can see, bananas support cholesterol levels in several key ways. While you will reap the benefits by simply peeling the banana and eating it as-is, there are foods you can pair your banana with so you can get even more heart-healthy benefits.

“To create a breakfast or snack that further supports healthy cholesterol levels when paired with a banana, consider adding foods rich in soluble fiber, healthy fats and antioxidants,” Dr. Geloo tells Parade. For example, he says that pairing a banana with oatmeal is a way to get even more benefits because oatmeal is also high in soluble fiber and can help lower LDL cholesterol.

Dr. Geloo reveals that eating bananas with nuts is another heart-healthy combination.

“Nuts are renowned for their healthy fats, which can actively contribute to a slight lowering of LDL cholesterol. Also, their rich content of fiber, protein and other vital nutrients supports overall cardiovascular function and helps maintain healthy blood vessels,” he says.

You can also combine your banana and nuts with Greek yogurt and other fruit for another heart-healthy breakfast.

“Combining bananas with Greek yogurt, fresh berries and a sprinkle of nuts or seeds creates a breakfast or snack that is both satisfying and conducive to optimal cholesterol levels,” Dr. Geloo says.

He explains that the Greek yogurt provides protein and can serve as a base for other cholesterol-lowering ingredients, while the added fruits and nuts bring their respective fiber and antioxidant benefits to the mix.

Small steps, like incorporating bananas into your diet more, can go a long way in supporting your cholesterol. Makes it a pretty appealing snack choice, wouldn’t you say?

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 9:43am

Camryn Manheim skyrocketed to fame in the '90s on the ABC series The Practice, but we barely recognized her in a new red carpet appearance.

Manheim, 65, played Ellenor Frutt on The Practice, which followed a group of Boston lawyers as they navigated their lives and loves amid their complex careers. The actress won an Emmy in 1998 for best supporting actress in a drama series, and went viral for her “This is for all the fat girls!” Emmy speech. 28 years later, the actress hit the red carpet at the Women's Guild Cedars-Sinai 2026 Spring Luncheon at The Beverly Hills Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Sporting a chic navy-and-white suit, we did a double-take before realizing it was Manheim. With that smile, she's beautiful at any size!

Manheim's Son is a Rising Star

Camryn's son, Milo Manheim, 25, is a rising star. Known for the Disney Channel original movie Zombies and its subsequent sequels, he took an interest in the industry thanks to his mom.

“I grew up on set with my mom and I love the fact that we can have deep conversations about the craft of acting. It’s one of the things that really connects us, one of our deepest passions," he told PEOPLE in 2024. “She’s a single mom. I’m an only child. I spent the first 18 years of my life with her every day. What makes our connection so special is that we’re both willing to put in the work and that we have spent so many years actively working on our relationship…. We make each other better, bottom line.”

Back in March, he honored his mom for her birthday with a sweet post.

"I’ve said this many times and will say it many more…but it’s no coincidence your birthday falls on International Women’s Day. Thank you for including me when you’re fighting injustice and for teaching me everything I know. I love you🤍," Milo wrote.

Sam's Club's Latest Bakery Item is Based on One of the Hottest Flavors Right Now: 'This Trend Will Never Die For Me'

Fri, 05/08/2026 - 9:27am

As even the most casual consumers are likely to know, Dubai Chocolate remains a highly sought-after trend among common shoppers, be it in the form of a Dubai Chocolate Latte or an entire dessert cake based off the popular flavor.

With the trendy item continuing to remain in demand, Sam's Club is releasing their own bakery item inspired by the craze surrounding Dubai Chocolate, as seen through the company's brand-new Dubai Cake.

According to multiple food bloggers across social media, Sam's Club has recently rolled out a new 10-inch Dubai Style Chocolate Mousse Cake, complete with delicious kataifi topping, white chocolate curls and a generous drizzle of chocolate syrup.

Featuring a base of chocolate mousse and decadent chocolate cake, the new Dubai Cake currently retails for around $22.74. While some shoppers have balked at the price of the new treat, many felt the dish nevertheless lived up to the hype surrounding its basis in Dubai Chocolate, appealing to longtime fans of the unique flavor.

"I’m still obsessed with all things Dubai," one shopper wrote on Instagram.

"The Dubai trend will never die for me!" agreed another user.

On the flip side of the coin, some shoppers are beginning to express a slightly less enthusiastic response about the new bakery item, having been a bit burnt out by the continued craze for Dubai Chocolate.

However, it's worth nothing that these more ambivalent users said that, when done right, a worthwhile Dubai Chocolate dessert can help set itself apart from the numerous other brands attempting to cash in on the flavor's popularity.

"My household is still obsessed, but not all Dubai Chocolate desserts are made equal," one account wrote. "Liking this price point so far... hopefully the taste is just as good."
