To separate genuine travel lifesavers from clever marketing upsells, we turned to NerdWallet travel expert and Smart Travel Podcast co-host Sally French to break down what flyers should actually pay for—and what they can happily pass up.

If you want the biggest bang for your buck without obsessing over airline loyalty ladders, look directly at an airline’s credit card.

“The most underrated perk, hands down, is holding that airline’s credit card,” says French. “You’ll see cards in the $100 annual fee range that bundle free checked bags, priority boarding, drink discounts, even a lounge pass or two. If you fly that airline even a couple times a year, that easily outweighs the fee—assuming you’d otherwise be paying out of pocket for bags anyway.”

2. Airport Lounge Access (With Calibrated Expectations)

Lounge access remains one of the best ways to de-stress on travel days, provided you know what you are walking into.

“My actual favorite perk is lounge access—not just for the free food and drinks (though that’s real value), but because it gives me a reason to get to the airport early instead of cutting it close and risking a missed flight,” French explains.

When choosing where to spend, manage your expectations based on access rules: “Here’s a good rule of thumb: the easier it is to get into a lounge, the lower your expectations should be. Priority Pass gets a bad rap for being ‘overrated’… but I walk in expecting a free soda, coffee, maybe a mediocre glass of wine, and that’s exactly what I get.” For top-tier experiences, French highlights Chase Sapphire and newer Amex Centurion lounges, along with exclusive cabin retreats like Delta One or United Polaris.

3. International Business Class Points Redemptions

Scoring international lie-flat business class seats on points remains the ultimate travel win. French famously booked a business class journey to Madagascar on 80,000 United miles: “Wild points and miles deals do exist—especially in the international business class space… It was a 36-hour flying experience, made so much better with a lie-flat seat!”

To snag these coveted seats without refreshing browser tabs all day, skip individual airline engines. “Use an award search tool like Point.me or Seats.aero to browse multiple airlines at once,” French advises. “The best points tools also have features like ‘Explore’ that surface great deals from your airport, or allow you to set alerts for certain routes.”

4. Buying Extra Legroom Upfront (If You Truly Need It)

If you are tall or dealing with mobility issues, paying for extra pitch is completely valid—just do not wait for check-in to buy it.

“The price they quote you last-minute in the app is rarely the best deal. You’re almost always better off paying for that extra-legroom seat upfront when you book, rather than getting upsold at check-in,” French notes. “If you’re someone who genuinely needs the space, I could see justifying it even for a two-hour flight. It just comes down to your own comfort math.”

5. Priority Boarding (Only If You Have a Roller Bag)

Early boarding gets hyped as a luxury, but its value is strictly utilitarian: protecting your overhead bin space.

“Priority boarding is huge if you’re checking a bag onto the plane and need to guarantee overhead bin space,” says French. If you travel light with just a personal item that slides beneath the seat in front of you, skip the rush. “Personally, I’d rather board last and spend LESS time crammed on the plane!”

6. Standard Main Cabin Over Basic Economy (When Plans Are Fluid)

While basic economy offers the lowest baseline price, standard economy tickets offer flexibility that pays for itself if your schedule wobbles. “Basic economy typically won’t let you make changes at all—if you’re 100% locked into your plans, that’s fine,” French warns. “But if your trip is at all in flux, basic economy can actually cost you more in the long run.”

2 Overrated Perks You Can Safely Skip 1. Paid “Fare Lock” Fees

When airlines prompt you to pay $10 to $30 to hold a fare for a few days, pass. Under U.S. Department of Transportation regulations, airlines are required to offer a 24-hour free cancellation window for tickets booked at least seven days prior to departure.

“Skip fare lock in most cases—in the US, you already get a 24-hour free cancellation window on most bookings,” French says. “So if you spot a good flight deal, just book it, sit with it, run it by your family, and if it doesn’t work out, cancel within 24 hours for a full refund.”

2. Chasing Elite Status for Free First-Class Upgrades

The golden era of getting routinely bumped into first class just because you hold entry-level status is largely over.

“The biggest myth in this space is elite status upgrades. Everyone thinks once you hit elite status, you’ll get bumped to first class regularly. No way!” says French. “I have United Silver and I’ve never once been upgraded. It happens way less than people assume, so I wouldn’t build your whole flying strategy around chasing elite status.”

The same reality check applies to bidding for cabin upgrades. “These bidding systems show up way more often on international flights, and even to place a bid, you typically need some level of elite status to begin with,” French notes. “From there, airlines tend to prioritize whoever’s already at the top of the elite ladder… I wouldn’t count on this as your upgrade strategy.”

With school starting again, weeknight dinners can quickly become a challenge. Takeout may be an easy solution, but it can also get expensive fast. As the days get shorter and busy fall routines settle back in, there’s something especially comforting about knowing an easy dinner is waiting in the freezer. With creamy queso, seasoned beef, and pasta in every bowl, this Costco find has cozy fall night written all over it.

Frank Sinatra and Willie Nelson couldn’t look or sound much different on paper. One dubbed Ol’ Blue Eyes while the other could easily be called Ol’ Pig Tails — and let’s just say they have completely different vices.

In terms of music, both can bring down the house. In fact, Nelson is still packing venues at the ripe young age of 93, where he’s currently on tour with his annual Outlaw Music Festival, joined by a rotating lineup including The Avett Brothers, Sheryl Crow and others.

Sinatra passed in 1998, last delighting fans in 1994 with his final public concert in Japan.

The two crooners — each distinctive in their own genres — unintentionally crossed career paths back in the early 1970s when Sinatra turned down what ultimately became a No. 1 hit.

Written by Albert Hammond and Hal David with Sinatra in mind, Hammond ultimately recorded the song himself in 1975, but it took nearly another decade to go mainstream. The eventual artists for “To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before” couldn’t have sounded more different, a far cry from Sinatra’s signature smooth croon, replaced by Nelson’s unmistakable, behind-the-beat drawl — and surprisingly, a Latin superstar.

Nelson didn’t make the song famous alone. Nearly a decade after Hammond’s own recording, Julio Iglesias (yes, Enrique’s father) was working on his first English-language album, 1100 Bel Air Place, when the forgotten track was brought back into the fold.

Iglesias ultimately joined forces with Nelson for the duet, released in 1984, and Sinatra’s loss became their gain. “To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before” spent two weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, while also climbing all the way to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 — becoming Iglesias’ highest-charting Hot 100 hit and one of Nelson’s biggest crossover successes.

Oddly enough, Nelson wasn’t even familiar with the song at the time. While visiting London, he heard Julio Iglesias on the radio and immediately liked what he heard.

That’s when Nelson’s then-wife, Connie, had a lightbulb moment, suggesting the unlikely pair team up in the studio and prompting him to reach out — reportedly unaware of just how massive an international star Iglesias already was since the country legend had his ear closer to Nashville.

Ultimately, Willie invited Julio to Austin to record it at his studio and the rest is history, with the song topping charts in multiple countries and becoming Iglesias’ biggest U.S. hit.

Turns out, Sinatra and Nelson’s paths would eventually cross more directly, too. A decade after “To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before” became a massive unexpected hit, Nelson joined Ol’ Blue Eyes for “A Foggy Day (In London Town)” on Sinatra’s 1994 album Duets II.

A historic era in the heart of Nashville has officially come to a close. The country music community is in deep mourning following the peaceful passing of Dale Morris, an 89-year-old visionary executive who passed away in his sleep on Friday night.

Morris’s monumental impact on the genre was so profound that the Country Music Association awarded him the ultra-exclusive Irving Waugh Award of Excellence. This prestigious, career-defining honor permanently links his legacy directly to transcendent cultural icons like Johnny Cash.

Long before he became an executive powerhouse, Morris began his journey on the creative side of the mic, famously penning a hit 1967 single for Johnny Paycheck. However, his trajectory changed forever in 1979 during a fateful visit to a legendary South Carolina venue called The Bowery. It was there that he discovered an up-and-coming band named Alabama. Under his sharp guidance, the group revolutionized country music by incorporating rock-concert production values into their live shows. They ultimately secured 33 No. 1 hits on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, a record for duos and groups.

By the early 1990s, the veteran manager repeated history by taking a young, aspiring country singer named Kenny Chesney under his wing. Morris transformed him into a future Country Music Hall of Famer and one of the highest-grossing stadium touring artists of all time, who went on to secure a matching run of 33 No. 1 singles.

With a star-studded legacy that also guided the powerhouse careers of Martina McBride, Barbara Mandrell, Jake Owen, and Old Dominion, his longtime business partner Clint Higham confirmed the devastating loss, stating simply: “It’s the end of an era.” Morris is survived by his wife of 68 years, Earline. A celebration of life will take place this fall, with the family requesting donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High was one of the most popular teen comedies of the ‘80s, and it came with a sweet soundtrack.

Songs by Sammy Hagar, Billy Squier, Stevie Nicks, Jackson Browne, and the Go-Gos were featured in Amy Heckerling’s 1982 coming-of-age film. But a Led Zeppelin track that played in one scene was not the song referenced in the script—or the Cameron Crowe book the film was based on.

During an August 2026 appearance on Chris Jericho’s Talk is Jericho podcast, actor Robert Romanus, who played teen Casanova Mike Damone in the film, recalled the scene in which Led Zeppelin’s 1975 Physical Graffiti track “Kashmir” played instead of a song from the first side of Led Zeppelin IV, as specified in the screenplay.

“I think Amy just liked that cut better, you know,” Romanus, 70, shared on the podcast.

In a key scene in the film, Damone gives  Mark “Rat” Ratner (Brian Backer) his five-point plan for wooing women.

“When ordering food, you find out what she wants, then order for the both of you. It’s a classy move,” Damone says, before sharing the example, “Now, the lady will have the linguini and white clam sauce, and a Coke with no ice.”

“Now this is the most important, Rat,” he adds. “When it comes down to making out, whenever possible, put on side one of Led Zeppelin IV.”

The first side of Led Zeppelin’s classic album kicks off with the rockin’ tracks “Black Dog” and “Rock and Roll” before slowing down with the ballads “The Battle of Evermore” and “Stairway to Heaven.”

In the movie, the Rat plays “Kashmir” while on his date with Stacy Hamilton (Jennifer Jason Leigh).

It turns out there was more to the story than Heckerling preferring “Kashmir” to other Zeppelin classics.

Speaking with Billboard, Crowe noted, “I feel like the big one that people still never get to the bottom of is why did we play ‘Kashmir’ when it was supposed to be side one of Led Zeppelin IV.”

The screenwriter explained that it was rare for the legendary British band to allow use of their music. “Well, the story was nobody was sure we were gonna get any of Led Zeppelin’s music to use, because basically they hadn’t given it to anybody,” Crowe admitted. “But because I had written about them for Rolling Stone and had a good relationship with them and wrote liner notes and stuff, I thought we’d do a Hail Mary and ask.”

“I was shocked when it came back yes,” he admitted. “But the stipulation was because of some publishing agreement, it had to be something that started with the Physical Graffiti period. Then it’s like, ‘Okay, this is an embarrassment of riches.’ So we have ‘Kashmir’ and we love that we get to use ‘Kashmir,’ but the book and the script had side one of Led Zeppelin IV.”

Crowe noted that the mishap was actually perfect for the bumbling Rat character.

“The thing that made me really laugh in the day and still kind of does was like the Rat gets it wrong, you know?” he shared. “He doesn’t have the right Led Zeppelin album. Little did I know that it would confound everybody. But it’s the Rat, man. He ends up having a bad night.”

There was another music mention in Fast Times at Ridgemont High that Romanus himself had trouble with. In one scene, Damone raves about legendary rock band Cheap Trick, which was one of the biggest bands of the ’70s, and “the magnetism” of lead singer Robin Zander with the song “I Want You to Want Me.”

“To be honest with you, and no offense to Cheap Trick, I didn’t know who they were,” Romanus admitted on Jericho’s podcast. “I had to go out and buy the album, you know?”

If I had to eat one food every day for the rest of my life, it would be pasta. And honestly, on most days, I do eat pasta.

Because of that, I like to think of myself as a pretty good home cook when it comes to boiling up the humble noodle. However, there’s always room for improvement—and I’ve been wondering if there are any common mistakes home chefs tend to make when it comes to cooking pasta.

To find out, Parade turned to Joe Frillman, a two-time James Beard Award semifinalist and the executive chef and owner of the Chicago restaurants Daisies and The Radicle. Daisies was named of The New York Times‘ Best Restaurants in America and is the recipient of multiple Michelin Green Stars for its commitment to sustainability.

Daisies’ menu has plenty of pasta dishes, so it’s safe to say Frillman knows a thing or two about how to best cook this staple ingredient. Frillman shared with us two common mistakes that people tend to make with their pasta recipes, and interestingly, both mistakes have to do with the straining process!

A Celebrity Chef Wants Home Cooks to Stop Making This Mistake With Pasta

“One of the biggest pasta mistakes people make is rinsing their pasta,” Frillman tells Parade.

Many home chefs have a habit of rinsing their pasta with cool tap water after straining it through a colander. Some do it to stop the noodles from softening or getting mushy, while others believe water will help prevent the pasta from sticking together. Meanwhile, others rinse their pasta if they want to cool it down for a cold dish, such as pasta salad.

However, Frillman strongly advises against rinsing pasta, even if you are doing so for any of the above reasons.

“You should never rinse pasta after cooking, as that washes away the starch that helps the sauce cling to the noodles,” he explains.

What To Do Instead of Rinsing Pasta

When your pasta drains through a colander, it’s true that it can continue to cook as long as the hot water is still surrounding the noodles—and this is especially true if your colander is largely solid with just a few groups of holes, according to America’s Test Kitchen.

So, if you are in the habit of rinsing your pasta to prevent it from overcooking while sitting in the strainer, America’s Test Kitchen recommends replacing your colander with a “pierced” colander, which allows water to drain much more efficiently, and stops the pasta from overcooking.

If you like rinsing your pasta because it helps prevent the noodles from clumping, The Kitchn recommends mixing some olive oil into your strained pasta in the colander instead of water. This is my preferred method!

And finally, if the reason you rinse your pasta is to cool it down fast, you can instead try the ice bath method, as explained by Cuisine at Home.

To cool your fresh pasta with an ice bath, just fill a large bowl halfway with ice water. Then, place the colander full of hot pasta into the bowl for a few minutes, where the ice water will cool the pasta down without getting it too wet. Once your pasta is cool enough, remove the colander and let any excess water go down the drain.

Another major pasta mistakes Frillman has observed people making is “throwing away all of the pasta water,” which is the water that your pasta just cooked in.

Typically, when my pasta is ready, I turn off the stove, put a colander in the sink, and strain the pasta. But according to Frillman, doing that is essentially tossing a valuable ingredient down the drain.

“Always save some of your pasta water before draining,” he advises.

“At Daisies, we use that starchy water to our advantage, adding it back into the pan as we finish the pasta,” he adds. “It helps loosen and emulsify the sauce while creating a silky consistency that evenly coats every noodle.”

Basically, you should “think of pasta water as an ingredient in the dish,” according to Frillman.

How to Save and Use Pasta Water

Over the last few years, I’ve tried to get in the habit of saving pasta water every time I make pasta, especially if I’m planning to serve the pasta with sauce. Here’s how I do it.

When the pasta is nearly al dente, I hold a heat-safe measuring cup (typically the 1-cup size) by the handle, and carefully dip it into the pot to remove some pasta water. Then, I pour the measuring cup out into a large glass measuring cup. I do this until I have 1 to 2 cups of pasta water in the glass measuring cup.

Then, I drain the pasta in a colander, and mix in a dash of olive oil to prevent it from sticking. As the noodles sit, I heat up sauce in same pot I used to cook the pasta. Once the sauce is hot, I pour the noodles back into the pot and mix them with the sauce. Then, I mix in some of the pasta water. During this minute or two, the noodles will finish cooking—and then your dish is ready to serve.

And sometimes you have to try hard to find it, because it’s something you walked past, or something that has been with you all along. I’m watching. How the Doctors Missed Her MS

Blair suffered from horrific pain and fatigue for years. However, doctors dismissed her symptoms.

“I had CAT scans as a kid, and I had doctor visits, and I stayed in hospitals for weeks at a time,” Blair recalled at the Flow Space Women’s Health Summit, according to Variety. “I’d have fevers, I have pain, endless, bone-crushing fatigue that I still do have. And my mom would say, Why can’t you give her an MRI?”

It wasn’t until she was in her forties that she was taken seriously.

“I was diagnosed with relapsing [remitting] MS in 2018. It turned out I probably had juvenile MS, as my first optical neuritis was when I was about seven, which left me with a lazy eye from nerve damage. But there were a lot of things I missed my whole life,” Blair recalled.

She’s Doing Great These Days

Blair told PEOPLE last April that she is finally “relapse-free” from MS.

“I am doing amazingly well. I’ve been feeling great for about a year,” she shared. “But I am finally well enough to really, genuinely … I always try to feel my best, but now that I actually have stamina and energy and going out isn’t so scary.”

Dane Cook, who turned 54 earlier this year, is not letting anything go. Cook is revisiting one of the most devastating betrayals of his life, and one detail sounds almost too bizarre to be true.

The comedian’s upcoming documentary, Funny Money: The Dane Cook Story, digs into how his half-brother and former business manager, Darryl McCauley, stole millions from him while Cook’s career was exploding. According to People, which shared an exclusive look at the documentary, investigators discovered that some of the stolen cash had been wrapped in plastic and hidden inside containers of spaghetti sauce.

The strange discovery was only one piece of a scheme that ultimately involved at least $12 million.

Dane Cook’s Brother Hid Stolen Cash in Spaghetti Sauce

McCauley managed Cook’s finances from the 1990s until 2008, giving him extraordinary access to the comedian’s money as Cook became one of the biggest stand-up stars of the 2000s.

According to the documentary trailer, withdrawals that began around $20,000 eventually grew to $50,000, with wire transfers reaching $100,000. Cook recalls beginning to sense that something wasn’t right, even though he couldn’t initially identify the problem.

The investigation eventually uncovered just how unusual McCauley’s methods could be. Some cash was reportedly kept in a safe. Other bundles of hundred-dollar bills were wrapped in plastic and concealed inside containers of pasta sauce. Cook describes his brother in the trailer as someone who spent considerable time “pretending to be something he wasn’t.”

The financial betrayal was particularly personal because McCauley wasn’t simply an employee. He was Cook’s brother and had been alongside him as his comedy career took off.

His Brother Was Ordered to Repay $12 Million

The scheme came crashing down in 2008, when McCauley was arrested. He later pleaded guilty to charges including larceny, embezzlement and forgery and was sentenced to prison. He was also ordered to pay Cook $12 million in restitution. McCauley’s wife, Erika, was also convicted for her involvement.

But nearly two decades later, Cook apparently doesn’t believe every question has been answered.

“I do believe that there’s money out there,” he says in the documentary trailer, adding that he believes other people may know more.

The comedian also suggests that he no longer knows where his half-brother is, posing a series of questions about what happened after McCauley left prison and where the story ultimately ends.

Funny Money: The Dane Cook Story, directed by Brett Harvey, will explore both Cook’s massive rise in comedy and the family betrayal happening behind the scenes at the height of his success.

The nearly two-hour documentary is set to become available on demand Sept. 29.

She helped make one of television’s most beloved bars a place where everybody knew her name.

Shelley Long, the Emmy– and Golden Globe-winning actress best known for playing Diane Chambers on Cheers, turns 77 today, Aug. 23.

Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1949, Long initially found her way into entertainment through comedy, modeling and television work. She joined Chicago’s famed Second City comedy troupe and also wrote, produced and co-hosted the local TV program Sorting It Out, which earned three local Emmy Awards.

Her breakthrough came in the early 1980s, when she began landing film roles in movies including Caveman and Night Shift. Then came the role that would make her a household name.

Shelley Long Became a TV Favorite on ‘Cheers’

When Cheers premiered in 1982, Long played Diane Chambers, an educated, somewhat eccentric woman who works behind the bar after her fiancé abandons her.

Diane’s complicated romance with bartender Sam Malone, played by Ted Danson, quickly became a central storyline. Long’s performance helped establish the series during its early seasons, and she earned five Emmy nominations for her work as Diane, winning Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 1983.

She also won two Golden Globes for the role.

The show’s creators later said Long was crucial to Cheers‘ early success. They recalled feeling “sheer panic” when she decided to leave the series after its fifth season.

Long’s departure in 1987 opened the door for Kirstie Alley to join the cast as Rebecca Howe, while Diane remained an important part of the show’s history.

Long eventually returned to Cheers for the series finale and later reprised Diane on Frasier.

Shelley Long Also Became a Movie Favorite

While starring on Cheers, Long continued building a film career.

She appeared in movies including Irreconcilable Differences, The Money Pit, Outrageous Fortune, Hello Again and Troop Beverly Hills. She later took on one of her most recognizable movie roles as Carol Brady in The Brady Bunch Movie in 1995 and A Very Brady Sequel in 1996.

Long eventually returned to television in a recurring role on Modern Family, where she played DeDe Pritchett from 2009 to 2018.

More than four decades after Cheers premiered, Long remains closely associated with Diane Chambers, the sophisticated barmaid who helped make the Boston pub one of TV’s most memorable hangouts.

Kendra Wilkinson, the former star of E!’s Girls Next Door, is excited that her lookalike daughter, Alijah, is heading into junior high school.

Wilkinson, 41, rose to fame as one of Playboy tycoon Hugh Hefner‘s girlfriends on The Girls Next Door, the E! reality TV show that ran from 2005 to 2009. Along with fellow girlfriends Holly Madison and Bridget Marquardt, Wilkinson lived at the Playboy Mansion and allowed E! cameras to document her life. After that series concluded, she went on to other reality series, including Kendra and Kendra on Top. But in the present day, Wilkinson’s focus is being a dedicated mom. That’s why it’s so wild to see Alijah, 12, looking exactly like her mother as she heads off to her first day of middle school.

Leaving Reality TV For Real Estate

These days, life couldn’t be more different from her days at the Playboy Mansion. Wilkinson married former Philadelphia Eagles player Hank Baskett in 2009, and the couple went on to have two children. While Wilkinson filed for divorce in 2018, she’s as devoted as can be to her two children, Alijah and Hank Jr., and she’s even found a new career as a real estate agent.

Wilkinson got her real estate license in 2020. On Instagram, she revealed she spent most of the COVID lockdown period studying hard to pass her licensing exam.

“What I’ve been working on during quarantine finally paid off by passing my California real estate exam on the first try,” she wrote via Instagram. “Was so nervous I couldn’t even sleep one minute but I did it and now I can breathe and celebrate my hard work.”

As for Kendra’s 16-year-old son, Hank Jr., it’s safe to say he has a few inches on his mother. Barbara Eden was one of the most beloved sitcom stars of the 1960s, captivating audiences as the magical genie on NBC’s I Dream of Jeannie. Decades later, the iconic star is celebrating a milestone birthday.

Eden turns 95 years old on August 23. She is the longest-living cast member from I Dream of Jeannie, which aired from 1965 to 1970 and co-starred Larry Hagman (Major Anthony Nelson), Bill Daily (Capt. Roger Healey), Hayden Rorke (Dr. Alfred Bellows), and Emmaline Henry (Amanda Bellows).

The gorgeous star has lived a magical life.

Eden was named Miss San Francisco in 1951 before beginning her career as an actress and chorus girl. In an interview with The Television Academy, she recalled that she was working as a singer when her mother suggested she study acting.

After attending the Elizabeth Holloway School of the Theatre in San Francisco, Eden moved to Los Angeles and worked in sketches on the Johnny Carson’s late-night show, a guest role on I Love Lucy, How to Marry a Millionaire, and more before being called for a meeting with I Dream of Jeannie creator Sidney Sheldon.

“[He] was testing every beauty-contest winner — usually tall women with long dark hair,” Eden shared. “My agent sent me the script. I told him that I loved it. … So I met Sidney and got the part. I think he’d finally decided that he needed a comedian to play Jeannie.”

Eden starred in I Dream of Jeannie for five seasons, from 1965 to 1970, playing a 2,000-year-old genie who fell in love with astronaut Major Tony Nelson. She went on to star in dozens of TV shows and films, including Harper Valley P.T.A., Dallas, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

Decades later, Eden continues to make public appearances, and fans are amazed by her youthful looks 70 years after she started her television career.

Speaking with Fox News, the actress revealed she stays in shape by riding a stationary bike and lifting light weights. She also takes walks.

“I was lucky to have a mother and father who were conscious of eating well and living,” she added. “My mother’s mantra was ‘moderation of all things.’ That’s how they lived, and that’s how I’ve lived.”

Eden also revealed that her simple skincare routine includes a drugstore facial cleanser and a repair serum.

As for the secret to her long life, Eden has chalked it up to genetics and gratitude. When she turned 90, she told The Television Academy she felt “really  lucky.”

“I was so surprised to be ninety! The time had passed so fast; I wasn’t paying attention. Now I guess I have to,” Eden shared at the time.

Eden will appear at the Cinecon Film Festival in Los Angeles on Sept 5.

In 1967, a teenage Alex Chilton recorded a song that would hit the top of the charts with his band The Box Tops, and at the time, it made him a young music icon. The hit, entitled “The Letter,” climbed the Billboard Hot 100, making it all the way to No. 1 on Sept. 23, 1967.

It wasn’t short-lived either, as the tune remained a chart-topper for four weeks. And the fact that Chilton, with his soulful, bluesy tone, was just a young one at the time, isn’t the only interesting thing about it; in fact, it’s one of the shortest No. 1 hits ever, with a runtime of just one minute and 58 seconds.

Written by Wayne Carson after his father suggested the opening line, it was first recorded by the rock band, but its success inspired several other covers. It became The Box Tops’ first and most successful single, reaching No. 1 in both the United States and Canada, while also seeing international success and placing in the Top Ten in several other countries.

In 2015-published book A Man Called Destruction: The Life and Music of Alex Chilton, From Box Tops to Big Star to Backdoor Man, Chilton recalled the track being recorded with little to no rehearsal. “We set up and started running the tune down … [Dan] adjusted a few things on the organ sound, told the drummer not to do anything at all except the basic rhythm that was called for. No rolls, no nothin’. The bass player was playing pretty hot stuff, so he didn’t mess with what the bass player was doing,” he said.

The track tells the story of a man who gets an urgent message from a former love asking him to come home ASAP. She can’t live without him, and obviously, he doesn’t want to be without her either, so he books an airplane ticket to get back to his lady.

“Gimme a ticket for an aeroplane / Ain’t got time to take a fast train / Lonely days are gone, I’m a-goin’ home / My baby, just a wrote me a letter / I don’t care how much money I gotta spend / Got to get back to my baby again,” the vocalist expresses on the song, per Genius.

Today, the ’60s hit remains a timeless anthem. It was included on Rolling Stone‘s list of the Greatest Songs of All Time and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2011. Additionally, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame added it to the 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll.

The Disney-owned streaming services didn’t cancel as much as others. In fact, there have been just two official cancellations of current shows from Disney+ and Hulu to date this year, with one on each network.

However, that hasn’t stopped the two streamers from making some disappointing decisions. A number of projects have been canceled in pre-production, and that doesn’t count the news that Sarah J. Maas got the rights to her A Court of Thorns and Roses book series back, meaning that Hulu is definitely done with that adaptation idea. Hulu canceled that in 2025.

This only covers the canceled shows. Both networks announced a number of shows ending with seasons this year, including The Bear and the Wizards of Waverly Place revival.

Disney+ and Hulu Cancel One Show Each

The biggest news was that Wonder Man was canceled after just one season, and the most surprising part about this was that it had already been renewed for a second season. Despite the initial renewal, a writers’ room never opened for it, and since then, Marvel and Disney+ have decided to walk back on the renewal decision.

It was a disappointing decision. The series has gained a lot of praise for stepping away from the usual superhero story, bringing something more poignant about the Hollywood industry, life, and success.

Shortly after that, Hulu followed up with its decision to cancel Deli Boys after two seasons. Despite the second season gaining a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, it didn’t have the viewership to back up the success. 

Even the addition of stars like Fred Amisen and Kumail Nanjiani couldn’t help to get enough people interested. With the production costs outweighing the success, Hulu decided to axe the show.

Three Shows Axed At Various Production Stages

Not all shows even made it to air their first season. One of the biggest upsets of 2026 was Hulu’s decision to cancel the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. The series, titled Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale, was set to bring back a new generation of slayers while paying homage to the original series. In fact, Sarah Michelle Gellar was fully on board with the adaptation of the series.

What happened? It all came down to creative differences. While showrunner Chloé Zhao wanted to focus on a new slayer, played by Ryan Kiera Armstrong, there was pushback from execs, who thought that the premise was too small. In the end, the project was considered too expensive to create and didn’t remain focused on everything Zhao and Gellar wanted to do, and Hulu decided to scrap it.

Disney+ also canceled two shows before they got to production. One of those was an animated Indiana Jones series, which was titled Reggies. The other was an Indiana Jones prequel series that was slated to be a live-action project. There have been minimal details about either released.

In 1938, Roger Greenaway was born in Bristol, England, and the future Songwriters Hall of Famer would go on to have a hand in an astonishing collection of hits, including one song that became inseparable from one of the most famous advertisements ever made.

Greenaway turns 88 on Aug. 23, 2026, more than six decades after he began his songwriting career.

Greenaway is perhaps best known for his longtime partnership with fellow songwriter Roger Cook. The two met as members of the vocal group the Kestrels and began writing together while on tour. Their first collaboration, “You’ve Got Your Troubles,” became a major hit for The Fortunes in 1965, reaching No. 2 in the U.K. and No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100.

But that was only the beginning.

Roger Greenaway Co-Wrote The Hollies’ ‘Long Cool Woman’

Greenaway shares a songwriting credit with Cook and The Hollies’ Allan Clarke on the band’s 1972 hit “Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress.”

The swaggering rock song became a much bigger success in the United States than in The Hollies’ native U.K. It peaked at just No. 32 on the U.K. Singles Chart but climbed all the way to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the band’s highest-charting U.S. single.

“Long Cool Woman” sold 2 million copies worldwide, including 1.5 million in the United States.

The song also has a particularly colorful history. Clarke said it was written in about five minutes, with a sound influenced by Creedence Clearwater Revival and John Fogerty. Its lyrics tell a miniature crime story about an FBI agent who encounters the mysterious title character in a speakeasy before gunfire erupts.

And “Long Cool Woman” was far from Greenaway’s only song to become part of pop culture.

Roger Greenaway Helped Write One of Coca-Cola’s Most Famous Songs

Greenaway and Cook originally wrote a song called “True Love and Apple Pie,” which was recorded by Susan Shirley. The composition was subsequently reworked by Greenaway, Cook, advertising executive Bill Backer and Billy Davis into a Coca-Cola commercial featuring the now-famous idea, “I’d like to buy the world a Coke.”

The commercial became such a phenomenon that the song was rewritten yet again, this time without the Coca-Cola references, as “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing (In Perfect Harmony).”

The New Seekers’ recording became a massive hit, reaching No. 1 in the U.K. and No. 7 in the United States. It went on to sell more than 1 million copies in the U.K. alone.

Greenaway’s songwriting credits stretch well beyond those two songs. He helped write hits recorded by Gene Pitney, Andy Williams, Cilla Black, The Drifters, Tom Jones and Crystal Gayle, among many others.

His later country successes included Jones’ “Say You’ll Stay Until Tomorrow,” which reached No. 1 on Billboard’s country chart in 1977, and Gayle’s “It’s Like We Never Said Goodbye,” another No. 1 country hit in 1980.

Greenaway was awarded an OBE for his services to the music industry in 1998 and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2009.

Not bad for a songwriter whose catalog ranges from a long cool woman in a black dress to an invitation to teach the entire world to sing.

John Schneider, who rose to stardom on The Dukes of Hazzard, just shared that he told a massive lie to score the coveted role of Bo Duke.

Schneider, 66, rose to stardom as Bo Duke on the program, which followed Bo and Luke (played by Tom Wopat) on a Georgia farm. The third leg of their infamous group was Catherine Bach in the role of Daisy Duke. The series, which ran from 1979 to 1985 on CBS, went down in history as a fan favorite. But in a new interview, Schneider admitted that he told a massive lie at the audition.

“I told them, I said, ‘Look, I’m 24 years old from Snailville, Georgia. I grew up on a farm, and I just came in first in my class at the Georgia School of High Performance Driving.’ Which did not exist… You couldn’t ask your phone if this place existed,” the New York native shared during an appearance on “Arroyo Grande with Raymond Arroyo”, Fox News reported.

“I learned a long time ago, you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression,” Schneider continued. “I gave them exactly what I thought they wanted.”

The star said the casting directors “were looking for good old boys from the rural South, 24 to 30, with no acting experience, but a lot of racing experience.”

Having a solid team he worked with for years on Dukes, Schneider took to Facebook to express his care for Bach after she was recently hospitalized due to an embolism that developed after surgery, Parade reported.

“Attention, Dukes of Hazzard family! I just texted Catherine, and thankfully, she responded right away,” Schneider wrote. “Yes, she is in the hospital, but she assures me that she is going to be fine. She appreciates all our prayers and support and is truly disappointed not to be traveling this weekend. We love you, Catherine!”

The Dukes Have Lasting Friendships

While the stars of Dukes met decades ago on the fan favorite show, they’ve managed to stay close throughout the years, maintaining a strong bond that’s navigated many ups and downs.

 “It never occurred to us that we weren’t going to be friends for life,” Schneider told Fox News in April. “I’ve met other people from other shows, and particularly other bands… there’s a lot of bands that can’t stand one another. I couldn’t imagine a life without Tom Wopat being one of my best friends, without Catherine Bach being one of my best friends. It couldn’t possibly exist.”
