'80s Action Star Impressed Director With His Stunts Using New Rig Technology
There is a good reason to stop actors from doing their own stunts. If they're hurt, then they can't do the scenes that rely completely on them.
But some action stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger did their own stunts during the height of their fame. Eraser director Chuck Russell explained why he was impressed with the star when they worked together.
Arnold Schwarzenegger's 'Eraser' Free-Fall SceneSchwarzenegger, 78, played a Witness Protection specialist named Eraser in the 1996 movie. Eraser protected Lee Cullen (Vanessa Williams), who blew the whistle on the sale of an electromagnetic rifle.
"The atmosphere on set was quite exciting, being the ringmaster of quite a big circus on a show like that. But I came from a stuntcraft background as a kid. So stunt safety was a really big deal to me, and Arnold appreciated that from day one," Russell, 68, told PEOPLE.
He explained that Schwarzenegger used a descender stunt rig, which was new technology at the time. "Arnold was the first actor I'm aware of to use a stunt rig. We call it a descender rig, which is designed to drop you to a free-fall beat, but it has a braking system so a human being can do it. It was a relatively new piece of gear," Russell said.
The technology is used when Eraser falls out of a plane. He was dropped from a tall Warner Bros. stage instead of it being a real plane.
"What I call action-acting is a real gift for those who have it," the director said. "Arnold certainly is one. Action is character, so it's unique to be able to bring a believable edge in that tone and make it work in those scenes."

The actor did use stunt doubles and people to stand in for his scenes over the years. Peter Kent talked to Cracked about doing that work for the action star for 15 movies.
"I wasn't supposed to be a stuntman," Kent, 69, said. "When James Cameron brought me on for The Terminator, he only hired me as Arnold's stand-in for lighting."
Cameron, 71, asked Kent if he did stunts. He lied and said yes because he wanted the pay. This was dangerous since stunt doubles train to do their job safely and then join a union. The stunts he did for The Terminator involved driving cars and shooting guns full of blanks.
Kent returned for Terminator 2 and wore prosthetics to look like the star, unlike first movie. "If you watch, say, the tanker chase, you'll see me with the Arnold mask, climbing from the pickup to the tanker," he said. "But only in the original cut. In the remaster, released to theaters this year, Jim went over and put Arnold's face in digitally."
The action movie industry has changed a lot throughout the years. Schwarzenegger took a risk using new technology to free fall. Stunt doubles went from using prosthetics to having the action star's face digitally put on top of their own. It's more work, but action done practically makes movies hold up throughout the years.

However, it was the presence of her husband, Alexis Ohanian, and the duo's two daughters, Olympia, 8, and Adira, 2, that stole the show. Joined by their aunt, Venus Williams, the adorable little girls cheered on their mother as she battled it out on the court. While Adira sat in her father's arms for most of the event, Olympia stood alongside him and enjoyed some popcorn as she cheered for her mom.

With a songwriting catalogue that features some of the most important music ever created, there's no doubt that John Lennon changed the world. His partnership with Paul McCartney throughout their tenure with The Beatles spawned some special, revolutionary, and oftentimes musically complex songs.

It's so interesting learning this and then listening to the two iconic songs next to each other. It's so obvious, I don't know how I didn't notice the similarities sooner. The song is a particularly interesting one in in The Beatles' discography as well, as it comes just before "The Long One," the nine song medley that completes "Abbey Road." As one of the last songs the band ever released, it occupies this interesting place as a statement that they're still innovating, still experimenting, and still pushing the envelope.

George Washington Wasn't Always a Hero—'Young Washington' Shows Why
Long before he was the “father of our country,” leading the fledgling continental army, George Washington was an ambitious young Virginia militia leader fighting alongside the British on the brutal colonial frontier.
With its release date strategically timed just ahead of America’s 250thbirthday, Young Washington is a historical biopic centered on Washington’s disastrous early military failure in the 1750s, one that ignited the French and Indian War—but steeled the leadership skills that would later galvanize his pivotal role in the birth of America’s rebellion against England.
Who plays George Washington in the new movie?London-born British actor and 22-year-old William Franklyn-Miller, a former teen model, stars as Washington. Who else stars in Young Washington?The supporting cast is rounded out by some familiar faces. Mary-Louise Parker (from Showtime’s Weeds) plays George’s mom, Mary. Kelsey Grammer (TV’s Frasier) is Lord Fairfax, an upper-class land-baron muckety-muck. Ben Kingsley (who won an Oscar for Ghandi) adds to his extensive list of character roles as Robert Dinwaddle, the governor of Virginia. And Lord of the Rings fans might recognize Andy Serkis (he was Gollum!) as Edward Braddock, a decorated British officer who leads his soldiers on a bloody battlefield charge.
Speaking of battlefields, there’s a lot of those in Young Washington. Cannonballs kaboom, bullets fly, bodies fall, blood spurts. But there are softer moments too, as when young George courts a comely socialite, Sally Cary (Mia Rodgers, who played Taylor on HBO’s The Sex Lives of College Girls). But like Washington’s first military excursion, that romance also ends in disappointment.
Young Washington reminds viewers that America wasn’t always America. It was a wilderness patchwork of colonial settlements and British overlords, French excursionists, Native Americans holding onto what was once their land, and slaves. One soldier eyes a couple of slaves, sent to fight in the “stead” of their landowner, and wonders why the militia doesn’t give them guns so they could help in the battle. “They might shoot us,” his fellow militiaman replies. “Wouldn’t you?”

Does Young Washington have religious themes?Young Washington is the newest movie from Angel Studios and the Wonder Project, which typically focus on Christian themes. Director Jon Erwin’s previous films include House of David, I Still Believe, a miniseries about Moses, a doc on the Christian band Casting Crowns, and I Can Only Imagine, based on a song by Mercy Me. There’s an undergirding of faith, divine purpose and redemption in Young Washington as well, like when Mary sends her boy off to war with a blessing and a balm; “Go, as God’s servant,” she tells him. George says he’s guided by the hand of “providence.” A group of Native American warriors, awed when he survives a vicious battlefield encounter, solemnly tells him he’s been chosen for protection “by the spirit.”
I guess the French commander chopped to pieces earlier by tomahawks wasn’t chosen, or protected. As they say in France, c'est dommage.
The movie’s messaging extends to its overriding theme that losers can become winners, failures can lead to success, and small players can become big leaders. “Even a pawn can take a king,” George’s father (John Foss) tells his young son over a game of chess.
Is Young Washington worth watching?As the movie ends, Washington’s army is newly bedecked in the colors of America: uniforms of red, white and blue. It’s a fitting close to this rip-roaring slice of rah-rah American history carved by war, wrapped in Sunday school homilies and served up as an Independence Day appetizer for audiences primed for red-meat patriotism, rousing underdog tales and real-life heroes.
My final thought: Reminds us losers can become winners, failures can lead to success, and small players can become big leaders.

Stephen King Reveals He Wanted Clint Eastwood to Play One of His Most Iconic Characters
Beloved horror authorStephen King revealed that he wanted a youngClint Eastwood to play one of his most iconic characters, Gunslinger Roland Deschain from the Dark Tower book series.
During a June 2026 appearance on the horror and true crime podcast, The Last Podcast on the Left, alongside his son and fellow author Joe Hill, King was asked if he ever had an actor in mind to play Roland, who was first featured in his 1978 short story, The Gunslinger.
"Clint Eastwood, back in the day. Yeah, back in the day. It would have been great. Would have been great," replied King, now 78.
He then explained that the 1960s Westerns known as the Dollars Trilogy starring Eastwood served as inspiration for the Dark Tower books.
"I got the idea for those books in a large part because of those Sergio Leone Westerns. You know, I saw them in the theater because I'm, you know, I'm old. And they were just widescreen men. And Eastwood, he was so quiet in those movies, you know. He wouldn't say s--t if he had a mouthful. So, that was great," said King.
King clarified that he enjoyed Idris Elba's take on the character in the 2017 Dark Tower film adaptation. He also shared thatJavier Bardemwas in talks for the role, which he believed "would have been great."
During the Last Podcast on the Left interview, Hill referenced that the Dark Tower film didn't receive good reviews. He also noted that horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan, who has adapted a few of King's works like Gerald's Game and Doctor Sleep, is working on a five-season Dark Tower television series.
"I think there is an attempt right now to try to make it five seasons, you know, to try to do a TV thing, but I'm not sure how far along it's gotten," said Hill.
ComingSoon.net reported that Flanagan let fans of the King's book series know where the Dark Tower television series is currently standing during a January 2026 interview with Empire magazine.
"It's moving. We've got a lot of scripts done for it. It's the first priority," said Flanagan, as reported by ComingSoon.net.

Lori Loughlin Announces Long-Awaited Return of Beloved Hallmark Franchise After 7 Years
Hallmark's Garage Sale Mysterymovies are so back.
In an announcement shared to Instagram on Tuesday,Lori Loughlin shared that the film series will be returning to screens "sometime this fall" after being off the air for seven years.

Based on the book series by Suzi Weinert, the movie adaptation consisted of 16 films starring Loughlin, as Jennifer Shannon, starting in 2013. The film series was brought to a halt upon the Full House star's involvement and subsequent arrest in the college admissions scandal, which led to her going to jail for two months in 2020.
While an exact release date for the movie was not announced, she mentioned that Garage Sale Mysteries will be available to on The Hallmark Channel and Hallmark+ the next day.

With the scandal behind her, Loughlin has been slowly returning to work on various television projects including Hallmark's When Hope Calls and its spin-off series When Calls the Heart.
"It's just so nice to be back with my family," she said of returning to the show, in a surprise appearance at the Hallmark Christmas Experience in Kansas City, Mo., in December. “It feels amazing and my girl [Erin Krakow] here has been championing this for a long time. I just want to thank everyone at Hallmark for being so loving and so welcoming… And this just feels incredible.”
Loughlin also starred in TV rom-com Fall Into Winter on the Great American Family channel and Hallmark's A Christmas Blessing in 2023. She also made a cameo on Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2024 and has continued her work with Project Angel Food, according to fan footage of the charity's recent telethon.
She has also made several red carpet appearances this year, most recently debuting a sleek bob that made waves online.

Legendary '80s Metal Star Tears Reporter Apart in Profanity-Laden Concert Intro
In what can be considered a pretty on brand move, Dave Mustaine of Megadeth absolutely ripped into an unnamed reporter during his concert in Finland this past Friday.
The '80s legend has always carried a reputation for his lack of a filter, which fans have grown to love about him over the years. It has always paired well with the raw, fiery, and aggressive style that Megadeth are known for. Hearing Mustaine snarl over the mic just wouldn't be the same if he couldn't back it up in person, and did he ever showcase his ability to exactly that.
To introduce their song "Let There Be Shred," Mustaine spoke about an interview he gave to a reporter back stage before the show, and the feelings he had about the unnamed journalist.

'80s Rock Band Announces New Album 45 Years After Forming
Forty-five years after first forming, Stryper is proving it has no plans to slow down.
The pioneering Christian metal band has announced its 18th studio album, Throne of Thorns, which is set for release on Sept. 25. Alongside the announcement, the group unveiled the album's lead single and title track, giving fans an early taste of its next chapter.
"NEW MUSIC AND PRE-ORDER FROM STRYPER!" the band wrote on Instagram. "Stryper return with their 18th studio album: Throne Of Thorns, set for release on September 25th!"
For the band, the new record is just another inevitable step in a truly remarkable career.
"If I don't make music, I feel like I'm starving and I need to eat," frontman Michael Sweet told Hotel Hobbies. "That's when I do a new project or start helping others with a project. But to me, it also just feels like a part of life. You know, like I get up every day and I have my coffee and I brush my teeth and I take a shower and music feels that way to me as well. It's just such a part of my routine."

'90s Country Rock Legend Dead at 71
Scud Mountain Boys announced some terrible news.
Joe Pernice, the frontman of the alternative country band, announced on Instagram last week that his dear friend and the lead guitarist of Scud Mountain Boys, Bruce Tull, passed away at the age of 71, on June 22. In a statement released to Stereogum on Tuesday, it was revealed that Tull died after a brief illness at his home in Tulsa.
"I can’t believe I’m writing this sad news," Pernice started off his message. "Our brother in Scud Mountain Boys and friend of nearly 40 years Bruce K. Tull left this world this morning."
"No combination of words will ever accurately describe the beauty of Tull," he continued. "Someday I’ll try. But today Stephen, Tom and I are just hollowed by his passing."
Pernice also sent his love to Tull's wife, Nancy, and his entire family.
View this post on InstagramIn 1991, Tull was studying for his PhD in Economics at the University of Massachusetts when he met Pernice, Tom Shea and Stephen Desaulniers. They first started having jam sessions at their kitchen table every night, where they played country tunes, and that eventually led them to playing local shows around their town.
Scud Mountain Boys released three studio albums: Dance the Night Away, Pine Box and Massachusetts, the latter being their first album distributed by Sub Pop Records, which brought them into the mainstream before disbanding in 1997. They ended up reuniting again in 2011 for an impromptu performance, then announced a full reunion by January 2012. They then released their fourth studio album, Do You Love the Sun, in 2013, which is their most recent album.

"So sorry to hear! Scud Mountain Boys are a huge influence on my musical journey! We covered 'Freight of Fire' just this last Saturday❤️," a fan said, referring to one of the songs on their 1995 album, Dance the Night Away.
"This is so sad," a user commented. "I spent a good amount of time with post-Scud Bruce, as he continued to either be on stage, in the audience, working sound or bartending at seemingly every show in Northampton up until he moved back to OK. I still occasionally walk by The Woodmont and there’s always a different random memory waiting. What a legend."

Both Below Deck's Captain Kerry Titheradge and Below Deck Mediterranean's Captain Sandy Yawn have enthusiastically named Bravo's Andy Cohen as their dream charter guest. But after hearing Cohen describe his own yacht behavior, they might want to prepare the crew first.
"I would love Andy Cohen," Sandy recently told Carl Radke on his More Life with Carl Radke podcast. "I mean, you're there to break a few rules, aren't you? That's why you charter a yacht. But there's lines you don't cross. That's with the crew and obviously really illegal stuff. But other than that, they can break the rules. I don't care."
The funny part? Cohen has already admitted he'd be anything but a low-maintenance guest. During a 2019 Watch What Happens Live After Show game with Below Deck icons Chief Stew Kate Chastain and Captain Lee Rosbach, Cohen revealed the many ways he could test even the most patient yacht crew.
When asked about his charter habits, Cohen admitted he's tried to organize a crew talent show on every yacht he's visited.
"I would like them to do it and I try to get them to do a crew talent show every time!" Cohen said.
He also confessed to staying up "with the night watchman into the wee hours of the night, begging them to do shots."
Chastain and Captain Lee looked stunned, but Cohen explained his reasoning: "Because a lot of times my friends go to bed and I'm like, I hang out with the night watchmen!"
"That's so fun!" Chastain joked.
"I love it! I've hung out with Michael. Yes, that's where all the fun happens," Cohen replied, referring to one of the crew members bartending on WWHL that night.
While Cohen clarified that the crew isn't drinking with him, he admitted he likes to keep the party going — even jokingly referring to scuba excursions with crew members as "underwater dates."
Chastain laughed, asking if that was actually true.
"I mean, they hold your hand..." Cohen replied.
And when he's not trying to turn the yacht into a late-night hangout, Cohen admitted he loves getting the crew to spill all the details about their love lives — proving that Captain Sandy may be getting the charter guest of her dreams... but her crew might have a very different opinion.
Mick Jagger Hints at Future Rolling Stones Shows and New Music Plans
Even though they're about to release a new album, Mick Jaggersays The Rolling Stones still has more music and performances in their future.
"I don’t think there’ll be shows this year, but I hope to do some next year for the Stones," Jagger said in a wide-ranging interview for famed British music publication NME, and explained that this past year, "Keith [Richards] couldn’t commit, and he wasn’t feeling so great about touring and everything."

Regardless of where and when any future performances will be though, the "Paint It, Black" singer shared that the band still has songs "in the tank" and doesn't plan to stop releasing music, even as their most recent album, Foreign Tongues, is set to be released in July.
“It could be a trio [of records]… I’ve already started writing songs anyway," he said, with the caveat that "they could be for other people though. When you write a song, you sometimes decide ‘that’s not for me, but it could be for the Chili Peppers’ or whatever.”
As for what's next in the immediate future, the band, which also includes Ronnie Wood, just came out with a six-part podcast, called Speaking in Tongues, which will revisit their 2023 album Hackney Diamonds. The podcast will include interviews with the band members and will also feature producer Andrew Watt, The Cure frontman Robert Smith, Steve Winwood, and artist Nathaniel Mary Quinn.

1982 Film Was Just Ranked the 'Greatest Sci-Fi Crime Thriller of All Time'
Some of the most compelling science fiction movies have elements of other genres, specifically thrillers.
For instance, on June 29, Collider published a list of "the 8 greatest sci-fi crime thrillers of all time" that included beloved movies like 2012's Looper, A Clockwork Orangefrom 1971, and Strange Days from 1995.
The 1982 Ridley Scott-directed film Blade Runner secured the title of the best sci-fi crime thriller ever released. Collider argued that Blade Runner should be at the top of the list because of its influence within the sci-fi genre and how its cinematography was expertly used to create the film's equally breathtaking and grimy atmosphere.
Ridley Scott Rejected the Belief that 'Blade Runner' Should Be Considered a Sci-Fi FilmIn a 1982 interview, Scott explained why he rejected the belief that Blade Runner, an adaptation of the 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick, is a science fiction film. Scott said he would categorize it as a piece of literary fiction, given that it takes place only four decades away from when it was released.
"Well, it touches on a near future, which is only 40 years away, so I don't really look on it to that extent as being that futuristic. It's really like doing a film in the '40s looking at us now in the '80s. And things really haven't changed that much, just enough to be a little spooky, so I don't really regard it as a futuristic film," said the Alien director in the interview.
He also wanted to clarify that while the film touches on the ideas of the harm overpopulation can do to a society, he didn't intend for Blade Runner to be a warning of what humanity could become.
"[The audience is] quite clearly watching a fabrication, not necessarily a prediction of the future. I hope it's not the future," said Scott in the 1982 interview.
Foreigner Revives Controversial 1979 Song for First Time in Decades
Some songs become concert staples. Others disappear for decades.
Foreigner has revived "Women," one of the band's most controversial songs, bringing the 1979 Head Games track back into its live set after decades away.
The update came in Foreigner's latest fan "Ask Us Anything" newsletter, where guitarist and singer Luis Maldonado was asked whether the band had considered performing its 1987 album Inside Information in full. While that isn't currently in the plans, he said the group has been making an effort to pull more songs from across its catalog.
"We haven't approached that album with that in mind, but we are trying to add more songs in the set from all Foreigner albums," Maldonado wrote. "For instance, we just performed 'Women' and we had a blast!! It was never before performed live and we felt, why not?"
Originally released on Foreigner's 1979 album Head Games, "Women" later became the record's fourth single, reaching No. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album itself climbed to No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and has since been certified five-times Platinum in the United States.
Despite its chart success, "Women" has long been one of the band's most debated songs. Built around Mick Jones' driving guitar riff, the lyrics string together a rapid-fire series of observations about different kinds of women. Some critics at the time dismissed the lyrics as chauvinistic, while others argued they were clearly intended as tongue-in-cheek. Both Jones and original frontman Lou Gramm have defended the song over the years as playful rather than misogynistic.
Jones has also spoken warmly about "Women," describing it as one of the band's favorite songs and praising its swaggering groove.
"You know, it was supposed to be a fun song, tongue-in-cheek a little bit – but yeah, it's one of the band's favorite songs to play," Jones told Ultimate Classic Rock in a 2019 interview. "Throughout all of the years, it always comes up, you know, the fans bring it up sometimes. There's certainly a nice little strut to it."
That enthusiasm appears to have carried over to today's lineup, with Maldonado saying the band "had a blast" bringing the song back to the stage.
The newsletter also included several other updates for fans. Maldonado said Foreigner hopes to make more new music once its busy touring schedule eases. In the meantime, the band has a live album recorded during its Ellis Island and Dumbo House performances scheduled for release on July 24.
He also confirmed that Foreigner will return to Las Vegas for a special performance in September before launching a longer residency there in 2027.
For fans who have waited years to hear deeper cuts return to the setlist, the revival of "Women" suggests Foreigner may continue reaching beyond its biggest hits as the tour rolls on.

Iconic '90s Rock Band Announces 2027 World Tour Update
Evanescence are taking their epic world tour to new heights, giving fans even more chances to see them live.
Following a string of sold-out shows, the beloved '90s rock band have announced an extra date to the Australian leg of their their long-awaited tour.
"We love you Melbourne! So much so that we’re adding another date," the "My Immortal" rockers posted in an Instagram statement.
The band's Australian tour will take place in March 2027, kicking off at Perth's RAC Arena on Mar. 5. Stops include Adelaide, Sydney, and Melbourne, with the tour concluding in Brisbane on Mar. 16.
Melbourne fans who missed out on the now sold-out date on Mar. 9, which takes place at the Rod Laver Arena, now have a second chance to get their hands on tickets for the newly added date on Mar 10.
Presale kicked off today, June 30, at 12pm AEST, and the general on sale will begin on July 2 at 1pm AEST.
