In the TikTok from @littleguild, Ariel was in her kennel looking straight into the camera. A closer zoom-in revealed Ariel's adorably smooshed ear, which just added to her irresistible personality. Her striking green eyes could light up a room and make anyone stop and stare. Still, potential pet parents seem to be passing by this pretty kitty.

It’s practically inevitable that you’ll unintentionally hurt your dog’s feelings at some point. When that happens, it’s understandable to wonder things like, "Does my dog know I feel sorry?" and"Will my dog forgive me after I yelled at them?" To help you understand your dog's emotions better and read their body language, we gathered "7 signs your odg forgives you when you hurt their feeling, according to a vet.

After all, pets can be tricky to read. However you have to remember that forgiveness is a little different between dogs and humans. “Dogs generally don’t hold grudges in the same way people do,” says Nita Vasudevan, DVM, an Embrace Pet Insurance veterinarian contributor. “If you accidentally scare, startle, or upset your dog, they may be cautious for a little while but what matters most is what they do once they feel safe again.”

These subtle behaviors can help tip you off that your dog feels comfortable with you and that your relationship is back on track, she says. 

Unfortunately, you and your dog can’t sit down for a heart-to-heart to go over what went down the best path forward for everyone. But aside from providing your pooch with regular reassurance, you can look out for certain signs that suggest they’re ready to move on and rekindle your bond. Here’s what Vasudevan suggests being on the lookout for to know that your dog trusts you and they have moved past what happened.

If you've ever thought to yourself, "How do I know my dog forgives me?" you're not alone. Luckily, one way to tell your dog is no longer upset with you comes down to where they sit.

In fact, vets say a dog that isn’t happy with you is unlikely to want to sit next to you. But Vasudevan says it’s a good sign that all is forgiven if your pup plops next to you on the couch or hangs by your desk while you’re working. 

While dogs may not communicate the same as people and not exactly know when you apologize to them or when you feel bad about something, they can show their feelings through their actions when they are near you.

So while serving as your dog’s resting post might throw you off-balance, it comes from a place of love. “When a dog leans against you or presses their body into you it is often a sign that your dog is comfortable with physical contact and is seeking closeness,” Vasudevan reveals. 

How dogs respond after conflict can tell you a lot about where they stand. So if your pup is following you around, that's a good sign.

Ths dog behavior shows that your pup feels attached and bonded to you. Bonus points if your dog follows you to the bathroom, since this is an act that suggests they still view you as part of your pack. 

Not every dog is a big “greeter” for their owners. But Vasudevan says this is a good sign if this was always a routine for you and your dog continues to do happily when you come home after you accidently feel like you did something that hurt their feelings.

“Dogs are social animals, and voluntarily approaching you suggests they still view you as a safe and trusted person,” she says.

How long does it take a dog to forgive their owner for something? Like people, every dog is different. Though you can tell if your dog still trusts you by if they want to play with you or if they continue to bring you gifts.

Vets say it's a good sign if your pooch drops one of their favorite dog toys at your feet. “Bringing you a favorite toy can be a sign that your dog is returning to their normal, playful behavior,” she says.

Resting a paw on your leg or nudging you with their nose suggests your dog wants to connect. This sweet affectionate dog behavior is an act of love.

“This may be an invitation to interact with them, which is generally a positive sign that they’re comfortable engaging with you again,” Vasudevan explains.

Besides dog actions and behaviors, pet parents may also want to pay attention to ther dog's body language to tell if they are happy or not in someone's presence.

“This is probably one of the most important things to look for,” Vasudevan notes. “A dog who is loose and relaxed, with soft facial features, normal ear position, and a relaxed tail, is generally telling you they feel safe.”

• Families will stay in the den for about three to four months before emerging.
• Male polar bears play no role in raising cubs.
• Cubs will stay with their mothers for close to two and a half years, learning necessary survival skills.
• Once they become independent, they face life completely on their own.

Fostering puppies requires a lot of patience, time, and attention—even more so than adult dogs who need fostering! Puppies are already doing the hard job of learning how to be in the world, and when you factor in a foster and/or rescue situation, that's also going to change the dynamic significantly.

It's important to make sure a foster puppy has access to a secure, safe, and clean environment. It's also best practice to keep them away from other pets and animals initially for health and safety purposes. Like with any new baby animal, puppy proofing and keeping things that could be toxic or harmful to them out of their reach is imperative.

With a foster, it's critical to make sure you're well versed in their previous care, and you're aware of any medical issues that may be present. Always consult with vets and experts during their time with you as a foster to make sure they're getting proper care at all times.

There are so many cats in shelters looking to be adopted. Some are snatched up right away, like kittens, while other cats are left to wonder when they’ll find their humans. One little cat understands this well, and his situation is breaking hearts.

Awww, poor Salt! According to the video, Salt loves to be near his people, and even if he’s not touching you, he is close by keeping an eye on you. He is reaching out for pets from the person recording the video, showing his loving personality. Anyone would be lucky to have such a sweet companion.

People in the comments shared their positive experiences with older cats. One person said, “Unpopular opinion, older cats are the absolute best kittens are overrated.” Another viewer commented, “People are so caught up with getting kittens that they miss out on some truly amazing adult cats. People who deem a cat “too old” to adopt don’t know what they are talking about. Senior cats come with their own benefits and are a wonderful addition to many households. They have a calmer temperament, a fully established personality, and they have existing litterbox habits.

Kittens are cute, but they can be a handful, but with a senior cat, there is no kitten chaos. Older cats have outgrown the hyperactive phase, meaning the cat is less likely to have 3:00 a.m. zoomies or climb up your curtains. The independent lifestyle of a senior cat means you don’t have to constant tend to them, and the cats are content to sleep the day away while you’re busy or at work.

Furthermore, what you see is what you get with a senior cat. Kittens are still developing personalities and habits, meaning you can’t know for sure what you cat will behave like in a few years. However, there are no surprises with a senior cat. Shelter staff or a foster can give potential adopters better insight into the behaviors of a cat more than they can with kittens. This also helps shelter staff match potential adopters with the right pet.

Seniors are already litter box trained. It can be a daunting task to litterbox train a kitten, and it requires a lot of time and patience. Senior cats, on the other hand, merely need to be shown where their new litterbox is located and they will be using it in no time.

Lastly, senior cats are loving. They're grateful to be rescued from shelter life and often show that appreciation right away. While some cats may come from traumatic backgrounds and might take more time to warm up, they are still perfectly capable of bonding with their humans and proving endless love and cuddles.

Salt is just hoping for the opportunity to provide the love and cuddles for his forever person.

I believe there are two kinds of pool dogs: the cautious ones who need emotional support to get one paw wet, and the tiny maniacs who discover belly flops and immediately make it their entire brand.

This Mini Dachshund appears to have started in the first group, then sprinted straight into the second.

I legit can’t stop watching this.

In the video, this little cutie goes from nervous around the pool to launching herself in over and over with full-body commitment. Not graceful dives. Not elegant little swims. Belly flops. Repeated, enthusiastic, tiny Dachshund belly flops that somehow get funnier every time.

The post caption says the clip is impossible to stop watching, and I get it. There's something deeply hypnotic about a short-legged dog deciding she has unlocked an Olympic event no one else knows about yet. She climbs out, resets, and flops back in like, "Again. For science."

The joy is real. The confidence is real. The splashes are very real.

But one comment added a serious layer that's worth keeping with the funny part. Another dog parent shared that their own little dog loved doing this, too, until a scary pool day ended in an emergency hospital stay after too much chlorinated water and water in the lungs. They said they knew to rush to the ER because their pup started throwing up afterward.

That kind of comment doesn't ruin the video. It makes it more useful. Because yes, this tiny pool queen is hilarious, but water play is one of those things that can look harmless right up until it isn't.

Especially with little dogs, the difference between "having the time of her life" and "taking in too much water" can be easy to miss if you're only watching the cuteness.

So I still want to cheer for every ridiculous flop. I just also want a towel, a timer, fresh drinking water nearby, and one human watching like a lifeguard with anxiety.

This Dachshund may have gone from terrified to belly flop expert, but her best trick is reminding us that confidence and caution can share the same pool.

A nervous dog doesn't need to be tossed in or rushed. They need the pool to feel safe, predictable, and easy to exit. The AKC's dog swimming guide helps to remind us to start slow, use praise, consider a life vest, and keep swim time short.

• Start with tiny wins. Let your dog stand near the water, step onto a shallow ledge, or just get a paw wet before asking for more.
• Teach the exit first. Show your pup the steps or shallow part again and again so they know exactly how to leave.
• Take real breaks. If your dog is swallowing water, coughing, vomiting, or acting off, stop and call your vet or an emergency clinic.

This little Dachshund found her pool confidence, but the real victory is keeping that joy safe enough to repeat.

If you've ever seen "Wedding Crashers," you might remember the uninvited guests sneaking into celebrations for free food, drinks, and a little fun. Apparently, for one bold deer, a beachside wedding offered the perfect opportunity for a wildlife version.

The seaside ceremony included an intimate group of guests, a gorgeous setup on the sand, and plenty of lovely flowers. And while some wildlife might be wary of a crowd of humans, this deer was far more interested in checking out the floral buffet.

But the adorable wedding crasher didn't stop there. After helping herself to the blooms, she also managed to photobomb the bride and groom's sunset portraits.

This certainly doesn't appear to be this little deer's first time crashing a wedding. She walked right past the guests and headed straight toward the altar while the couple was getting married, nonchalantly munching on the flowers as if she'd been invited to the ceremony.

And somehow, she knew exactly when it was time for pictures. Later, as the newlyweds pose along the water at sunset, their unexpected guest wanders into the frame, creating the perfectly unscripted wedding photo no photographer could have planned.

Weddings rarely go exactly according to plan, but sometimes the unexpected moments become the best parts of the day. This couple may have had one more guest than they anticipated, but this deer certainly made their celebration one of a kind.

Yuki and Maple are two sisters who love to hug. Yuki is a Samoyed, and she looks to be the more attention-seeking of the two.

Recently, Maple got injured, and she needed constant bandages on her foot. For a week, their mom has been changing Maple's bandage as part of her recovery plan.

Maple is getting medical attention, but Yuki felt left out to the point the family had to include her. The fluffy Samoyed watched her sister get bandages, attention and sympathy. So, she wanted a piece of that.

The funny part is Yuki is not the injured dog. Her sister needs bandages on her leg, but the trouble began a week ago.

Every time Maple had her bandage changed, Yuki would get deeply jealous, bothered by the attention her sister was getting. So, Mom decided to include Yuki.

Pet parents with multiple dogs understand it. One dog gets a treat, and the other appears from nowhere. One dog gets a toy, and the other needs the same toy.

Yuki took that to a whole new level. One commenter recognized the playbook and shared his experience: "Our lab had an ear infection so needed meds every day. I'd do her ear drops and she'd get a small treat. Our schnoodle connected random dots and started lining up behind our lab, waiting his turn. I would have to pretend to do drops in his ear, complete with the whoosh sound, give him a treat and send him on his way."

This is a scheme dogs have been running for a while.

A few days later, Yuki took her performance to a different level. In the latest video, the fluffy Samoyed acts as if one of her front legs is causing trouble.

She lifts the leg, stands on her three feet, and tries to walk as if she is injured.

The internet already handed her a reward. One commenter said, "And the Oscar goes to white fluffy Samoyed." Another added, "Get her an agent fast!"

And one fan offered a different interpretation, saying, "She's not jealous. She's an empath!"

Ganga is a fishing cat living in India's Godavari region, and she has been slowly teaching her babies how to survive in the wild.

Several weeks ago, the trail camera from the Godavari Fishing Cat Project captured her teaching her two kittens to eat a fish she had brought to a forest clearing.

That was lesson No. 1. But now, new nighttime footage shows the next step of her teaching. Ganga called her kittens toward an aquaculture pond and led them to the water's edge. What happened next is how the kittens learn to survive.

The footage shows Ganga leading her two young fishing cats to a pond, facing a steep bank they have never climbed before. The kittens scramble upward and slip. Then one comes back completely soaked.

For the young kitten, it is a funny little adventure, but it also represents something more serious. Fishing cats need wetlands and water-rich habitats to survive, but often these places are important to people as well.

Ganga is teaching her kittens what coexistence can look like when conservation works with local communities rather than asking them to make sacrifices.

The camera caught kittens scrambling up, sliding back, and finding the trail camera far more interesting than Mom's lesson. The video is funny to watch, but it is also a reminder that it might have cost kittens their lives.

Fishing cats are classified as vulnerable on the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List. They live mostly in Asia and are built for water. Unlike many other cat species, they survive by scooping fish from below the surface and often raid fish farms.

However, in communities where human families depend on those ponds for survival and income, raiding the pond might equal a death sentence.

The Godavari Fishing Cat Project built a different system. They work with local communities to establish a fish bank. When fishing cats take food from ponds, the project replaces the lost fish.

Since farmers no longer have to carry the cost on their own, they've stopped hunting the cats who threaten their livelihoods.

That is why Ganga can lead her kittens to the pond in the dark, let them slip into the water, and come out of the experience unharmed.

As the narrator in the video says, "Supporting them means everyone gets to eat."

The soaked kittens deserve a moment for sure, but the real story is the system that has allowed Ganga and her kittens to thrive.

Ganga is teaching her offspring how to navigate a changing landscape. The kittens have plenty to learn, but that's how growing up begins for Asia's rare wild cats.

The cat distribution system does not care if you have a roof over your head. That much became clear when a homeless man walked into a CVS Pharmacy carrying a kitten suffering from heat exhaustion.

He found the little guy struggling on the street in the middle of the summer heat. Knowing he couldn't provide what the kitty needed, he walked into the nearest air-conditioned building he could find and asked for help.

That's how a nine-week-old kitten ended up with his new mom. She recently shared the story on Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem, praising the man's selfless act and saying she now has a kitty to care for.

When the man went inside the CVS store, he explained it was too hot, and he couldn't care for the kitten. He asked the employees to take the kitten in and try to find a shelter that could help him.

Unfortunately, the employees didn't have any luck rehoming him, so one of the employees took him in. It was an unexpected turn, but for the woman, it changed her life for the better.

The CVS employee took her new kitten to the vet, and after two weeks, they are inseparable. She explained in the Reddit post that the kitty is nine weeks old, sweet, somewhat bitey, and surprisingly settled for someone who just endured a bout of heat exhaustion.

She gave the kitten the name of Purrling Paawland, but she also calls him Juice or Mr. Kitty.

The comments on the post came quickly, with people praising both her and the man who saved the kitty. "Both you and him did well," wrote one person. Another Redditor thanked the homeless man for bringing the kitten to a safe place.

However, one comment summarized the story best: "The CDS saved a kitty's life and gave him a loving home."

Several people wanted to know more about the man who brought the kitten to the CVS, with a Redditor encouraging Purrling's mom to keep the man updated about the kitten's progress.

Turns out, she does. OP explained that she had seen the man once since he relinquished the kitten, with her CVS store located in an area where many homeless people congregate. She provided the man with food and drink, despite being financially strapped herself, and promised to keep him updated about the kitten.

Maine Coon kittens are basically just little balls of fluff and love... but some of them do come pre-loaded with that extra bit of spiciness that you just don't know exists until they have the chance to bring out that side of their personality for the first time.

In this video from Wild Mane Maine Coons on TikTok, we get to see a new baby kitten, Pikachu, meet the dog of the house.

Even though Teddy seems like the sweetest pup, Pikachu isn't about to trust him that easily. He brings out every single one of his defenses, from the scary hiss and sharp teeth to the puffed up body and tail.

That look on poor Teddy's face as he glances back at his mom like, "are you seeing this?" is too funny. He doesn't get why a kitten would be so scared of him!

It makes sense; Teddy is a lot bigger than Pikachu, who probably has no clue what the giant standing in front of him is all about. Maybe Pikachu should go to a forever family that doesn't have dogs when he gets adopted...

Of course, the easiest way to help a cat and a dog get along starts from the moment you introduce them. We've probably all heard the advice to introduce them gradually and make sure each animal has their own area to retreat to when they're ready for a break from their new housemate.

But if you already have a dog and a cat living in your household who seem to be at odds, what can you do?

According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), one of the best things you can do to create harmony in your home is to offer plenty of positive reinforcement to your dog for behaving the right way around the cat, especially when you notice they're having a positive interaction.

You also want to make sure that the cat has at least one permanent place in your home that they can escape to without the dog being able to reach them, like the top of a cat tree. If this area is in another room entirely, make sure they have the essentials, like food, water, toys, and a litter box available to them there, too.

With enough patience, eventually, most cats and dogs can find a way to get along. I don't doubt that Pikachu will find a way to co-exist with Teddy for as long as he needs to, too.

A Newfoundland dog may be as big as a bear (well, a bear cub), but don’t let their massive size fool you. They truly are as sweet as can be—and they love taking care of their people. Case in point: this video of Chewy the Newfie. 

When Chewy’s human sister comes home in a sling with a broken arm, this gentle giant goes straight into doctor mode, never leaving her side as she heals from her injury. If she is resting on the couch, he is right next to her on the floor making sure she is OK.

He knew she needed him 🤍

This is definitely not a rare occurrence for these types of dogs. According to the American Kennel Club, Newfoundlands—which can stand as high as 28 inches tall and weigh up to 150 pounds—are equal parts sweet and protective. They are extremely loyal to their family, and will do everything they can to keep them safe, whether they are healing from an injury or in danger in the water.

In fact, Newfoundlands are such good swimmers (they even have webbed feet!) that they make excellent water rescue dogs. They have the ability to save a drowning person by pulling them to the shore. Pretty impressive!

Their sweet and protective nature is the reason they are known as “nanny dogs.”

Your first instinct may be that such a big dog might not be the best to have around children. But when it comes to Newfoundlands, that couldn’t be further from the truth. These dogs are so devoted to their families, especially the kids, they make it their job to protect and care for them. Just like a nanny! 

Newfoundlands are extremely gentle, patient, and a lot less reactive than other breeds. This calm temperament is why they are known as “nanny dogs.” You might even remember the Newfoundland named Nana in Peter Pan, who literally acted as Wendy, John, and Michael Darlings’ nanny, or “nursemaid,” as they said back then. 

Your Newfoundland might not wear a little cap and bring you medicine like the Darlings’ Nana, but it will definitely make sure your family is cared for and protected—just like Chewy the Newfie.

Dogs and cats are surrendered to shelters for various reasons. Sometimes pet parents encounter financial difficulties or health issues where they are unable to give their fur baby the care they require. Yet other reasons are almost hard to believe.

Mint is a sweet 6-year-old cat recently brought in to the NAWS Humane Society by her family, and shelter staff members are flabbergasted by the explanation they were given.

The TikTok from @franflight told Mint's story and the exasperating reason she was brought to the shelter.

"Mint's life has been completely unfair," the on-screen text shared as the pretty kitty snuggled with a shelter staff member. "She became an 'inconvenience'."

Apparently, Mint's parent surrendered her because she was "tired of cleaning up after her", making her story even more heartbreaking.

"My most perfect and sweet girl Mint needs to get the heck out of the shelter," the caption shared. "When I heard her story I was just mad, and then I saw the most scared cat, and I was even more frustrated. Mint deserves so much more than this."

Her traumatic transition from a home to a shelter caused the gentle cat to withdraw. Mint comes out of her shell with patience and compassion, yet potential adopters often don't put in the time she needs to show her real personality.

"At first, Mint is scared of everyone she meets," the story continued. "But with a little time, she shows you the best side of her... Most people don't stay long enough to see the true Mint. The one that melts into you once she trusts you."

Mint gets along with dogs and other cats and would do best in a quiet and calm environment.

"Mint isn’t posted on the adoption website but you can still apply for her at nawsus.org under the tab 'adoption center' by filling out a cat adoption application and entering her name," the caption noted, adding that questions can be messaged directly through the TikTok post.

No matter who you are, everyone gets a little bit spooked every once in a while. Whether you see a scary movie or get startled from a prank, chances are, you’re going to jump out of your skin a little bit. Well, one dog can relate.

A Golden Retriever named Reese recently had a scary encounter of his own. This precious pup spotted something at the hardware store while he was running errands with his mom that made him say, “Nope, not today!” He certainly was not a fan!

LOL, Reese is too funny. The Golden immediately backed up and let out a low, fearful growl when he spotted a large lions head on display. Reese likely didn’t realize the large figure was inanimate and believed to have spotted a predator. Despite his fear, Reese immediately entered protection mode to keep his mom safe from the perceived threat. What a good boy!

People in the comments could relate with their own Goldens. One person said, “Well, at least he was growing at something that looks like an animal! My Golden was growling at a plastic bag that moved slightly because the fan blew on it.” Another person commented, “That’s a brave Golden baby. Mine protects me too - dog food bags, chewy boxes, a balloon. So, so many dangers.”

Others agreed that Reese had every right to be scared of the oversized lion head. One viewer commented, “Understandable, that thing has crazy eyes,” and another person said, "I'm with the dog on this one guys that thing's creepy."

While the threat was imagined by the pup, his bravery was very real!

Reese isn’t the first dog to get spooked by an imagined threat. Many dog parents have stories of their own dogs expressing fear over mundane objects. Some might call them scaredy-cats for this, but there is actually a good reason for getting spooked.

Dogs senses are much stronger than ours. They perceive things differently, which sometimes leads to different reactions than their humans. Unfamiliar or sudden changes—such as the rustling of a bag or a giant lion head—trigger an instant survival reflex. What appears harmless to us humans can seem unpredictable, weird, or dangerous to a dog. Pups like Reese also thrive on routine. When seemingly minor changes happen, such as a new piece of furniture, this can create confusion and fear due to the unfamiliar nature of the object.

In addition to a sensory overload, past experiences might have an influence on a dog’s fear level. A dog with a difficult history might react to sudden changes or movements with fear instead of curiosity. It’s especially important to be patient with dogs like this because you may not know what their potential triggers are, and you don’t want to make a fearful dog more scared.

A dog’s fear can also be influenced by physical factors. Some dogs are more genetically predisposed to be cautious and nervous. Additionally, age can play a factor. As dogs get older, their vision and hearing get worse, and it becomes harder to identify genuine threats. This puts these older dogs on the defensive and makes them easier to startle.

We feel bad for laughing at Reese, but luckily the “predator” that he spotted is totally harmless. This pup is going to think twice about going to the hardware store now!

We receive Chewy shipments regularly in our house; we have a lot of pets. My dogs actually love to bust into the packages themselves since every order always comes with a toy for them just because we spoil them like crazy.

Apparently, regular dogs aren't the only ones who love to open Chewy boxes. Recently, when one woman got her Chewy shipment in, there was someone who was very excited by it. Instead of a dog, however, it just so happened to be a coyote:

Magenta Squash was definitely in Chewy's customer service inbox shortly after this one. He managed to get through the box completely, though nothing in there really interested him. It was a metal bowl and a few other things he just didn't care about.

Chewy was in the comments, saying, "Forbidden puppy," which is so true. What she actually ended up doing with the products once the coyote left is unknown, but I'm sure this would be proof enough to get a replacement shipment. Chewy is great about stuff like that!

Contrary to what that boy might think, the poster actually does not have a pet coyote. She does have a few other pets, though, including at least one rat she's trying to teach how to play chess. This is exactly the type of thing I would do if I had a rat:

I don't know how to play chess, so we'd be learning together, but I think that would be fun. At least, I would until a rat beat me at chess. Then I would definitely be offended.

Obviously, the coyote got to the Chewy package before Magenta could grab it. Most likely, it was left on her front porch, which was ungated, and that's how the coyote grabbed it. Luckily, Chewy is good about issuing replacements: if anything was damaged by the coyote, they would make it right.

If you live in an area with a heavy coyote presence, you'll need to do some coyote-proofing to protect your home, yourself, and especially any pets you have. The best things to do to prevent unwanted encounters are:

• Put a fence (at least six feet) around your yard.
• Never leave food or standing water outside.
• Try not to let bushes or trees become overgrown, as they provide a place to hide.
• Make sure outdoor cooking equipment (grills, smokers, etc.) is all cleaned immediately after use.

The best thing to do is stay vigilant: watch local social media groups for coyote sightings and install security cameras around your yard to watch for them. Never let pets, especially smaller ones, out alone at night!
