Dachshund 'Discovers His Purpose in Life' and It's Even Better Than It Sounds

Fri, 04/10/2026 - 9:20am

There are moments in life when everything suddenly clicks.

For Wally, that moment was dirt.

In this video, the little Dachshund discovers digging, and it is not just cute. It is the kind of life-changing realization usually reserved for people who move to the woods, start baking sourdough, or get really into pottery. Wally hits the ground, starts digging, and immediately looks like he has found the one thing he was put on this earth to do.

@wallyandkirby

he gets surprised everytime he throws dirt back 😂 #minidachshund #dachshund #dogdigging #happydog #dachshundpuppy

♬ Buying - Steve Jablonsky

The caption says, “When Wally discovered his purpose in life 2,” and honestly, that is not dramatic enough. This is not a casual new interest. This is destiny. This is a tiny, long-bodied man having a full spiritual awakening in loose soil.

You can see it all over his face.

The focus.

The urgency.

The absolute conviction.

He is not just pawing around because he is bored. He looks like every scoop of dirt is unlocking ancient knowledge passed down through generations of very determined little sausage dogs. Somewhere deep in his DNA, a tiny voice clearly said, yes, this. More of this.

And if you know Dachshunds, that makes perfect sense.

These dogs were built to go after things underground. So watching Wally discover digging feels less like learning a trick and more like activating a family trait. It is giving inherited talent. It is giving natural-born specialist. It is giving, “I don’t know who I was before this, but he is gone now.”

And honestly, I get it. My dog, Lola, is a digger, too. She absolutely knows the thrill of deciding one patch of earth has suddenly become her personal mission. There is something about watching a pooch lock into a digging project that feels both hilarious and deeply serious. They are not just making a mess. They are pursuing truth.

That is why this kind of video works so well. It is funny, simple, and full of personality. Wally is not performing. He is becoming.

And frankly, that is compelling content.

Natural Instincts Need Safe Outlets

Wally’s big dirt breakthrough is hilarious, but it's also a good reminder that dogs often feel happiest when they get safe ways to use their instincts. Digging, sniffing, shredding, and searching are not just random chaos; they can be genuinely enriching. Humane World for Animals recommends giving pets ways to explore and interact with their environment, which can help prevent boredom and channel energy in healthier ways.

Honestly, Wally dug like he had just been personally summoned by the planet.

‘Basking Shark’ Spotted off the Coast of San Diego Looks Like It Belongs in a Museum

Fri, 04/10/2026 - 9:00am

The ocean and I have a love-hate relationship. I love learning about all of the cool things living in it, but the thought of being in the ocean myself makes me itchy. No way! I will gladly stay here, on land, and spread the enjoyment of the ocean to others.

You're welcome: look at this awesome Basking Shark! They caught footage of him off the coast of San Diego, California, and it was such a treat. This shark is a rare one to spot, and I think this is the closest we're going to get to a megalodon:

@scripps_oceanography

👀 What started as a whale watching trip ended in a once-in-a-lifetime encounter! 🌊 Scripps Oceanography PhD candidate and shark expert Jack Elstner recently encountered a basking shark in San Diego while captaining a whale watching expedition off of San Diego. We caught up with him to learn more about these incredible creatures and why this chance meeting is so exciting for shark enthusiasts and whale watchers alike. #shark #sharks #baskingshark #fyp #foryoupage

♬ To the Water! - Christen Morrell

Scripps Oceanography is so lucky to have spotted this. I've only seen a Basking Shark a handful of times in pictures, so seeing one in real life is the dream! They weren't even really looking for him: they stumbled upon him on a whale-watching trip.

They were on an expedition, and according to Scripps PhD candidate Jack Elstner, who was on the trip, this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience because they were able to get super close! Not only did they see him, they actually got to see the Basking Shark... Well, basking!

Basking Sharks Are Filter Feeders

Basking sharks are absolutely massive: they're the second-largest shark species on the planet! You might think that they get to that size by eating huge fish, or entire schools of tiny ones... But that's not the case. Basking Sharks are filter feeders!

Basking shark with their mouth open.

Image via Shutterstock / Simon Burt

Some studies claim that Basking Sharks have at least 1,000 tiny teeth, but they're not used for eating! As filter feeders, Basking Sharks have specialized rakers to consume:

  • Zooplankton
  • Krill
  • Shrimps/small crustaceans.

They eat massive amounts of them at a time. Basking sharks filter about 2,000 tons of water through their gill rakers per hour, netting them hundreds of pounds of food per day.

Why Are They Called 'Basking Sharks?'

Basking sharks are called that because of the way they eat. Typically, you'll find them "basking" near the surface of the water. That's where some of the most nutritious zooplankton and other tiny species are!

Occasionally, you'll catch them hanging out of the water a little bit. They can be found all over, though there's something special about those California sharks!

Rare Somali Cat Looks Like He Crawled Out of a Volcano

Fri, 04/10/2026 - 8:55am

You know when a cat walks into a room, and you immediately stop what you’re doing? That is Kieran. No buildup, no explanation, just instant “what am I looking at” energy.

The caption reads, “Kieran came to visit, and he’s looking so beautiful!” and yes, beautiful, but also
suspiciously on fire? This Somali Cat is standing on a bed with this blazing orange coat and giant fluffy tail that makes him look like he just crawled straight out of a volcano and decided to hang out indoors for a bit.

The video was uploaded to TikTok by @saltlakekitties, and the comments immediately turned into a full identity crisis.

“That’s the most Firestar-looking cat I’ve ever seen,” one person wrote, and honestly, if you know, you know.

Related: Shelter Cat With Two Extra Ears Looks Like an Adorable Space Alien

“What a beautiful cat, love his colors and that tail. I just can’t,” another added, which is fair because that tail alone deserves its own fan club.

“Ma’am, there’s a warrior cat in your house
” and yes. This is not just a cat. This is lore.

“It’s a spicy Cheeto floof,” which I will now be using regularly.

“Hey, so that’s actually a fire-type PokĂ©mon called an Eevee,” and suddenly, we’ve entered a completely different universe.

“That is the cutest PokĂ©mon I’ve ever seen,” someone else said, which again
 not wrong.

“Baby has the colors of a squirrel, a Dorito, and a red panda,” which feels like the most accurate scientific description available.

And finally, “Looks like a red squirrel with big ears,” which somehow still undersells it.

I keep staring at him because the color is just so intense. He's just an absolute stunner.

Somali Cats are known for their striking appearance, but their personalities are just as big. They are playful, curious, and incredibly active, which means they are not the kind of kitty who just sits around all day doing nothing.

They tend to be very social and enjoy interacting with their humans, often following them around and getting involved in whatever is happening. If you want a cat who feels more like a little companion than a quiet roommate, this is that.

They are also intelligent and need stimulation, whether that is toys, climbing spaces, or just regular attention. A bored Somali Cat will absolutely find ways to entertain themselves, and you may or may not appreciate those choices.

And then there is the coat. That signature fluffy, fox-like tail and rich coloring do require some maintenance, so regular brushing helps keep everything looking as dramatic as it should.

Basically, you are getting a cat who looks like a tiny fire creature
 and acts like one, too.

Macaw Telling Mom He Hurts and Is 'Going To Cry' Is Breaking Hearts

Fri, 04/10/2026 - 8:20am

Birds are some of the smartest, most emotionally intelligent animals on the planet. Many of the Parrot species, like Cockatoos and Macaws, are often compared to human toddlers because of how well they understand the world around them and how they fit into it, and their robust vocabularies prove as much.

Hook is a Macaw, technically, but this precious little angel has to be a human on some level. When telling Mom about an injury, he's not just repeating words or phrases but saying exactly what hurts and that it's so painful he's going to cry. I wasn't planning on sobbing today, not until I saw sweet Hook's emotional plea (you've been warned).

@dorecountry

♬ original sound - Hook - talking Macaw

It's clear Hook comprehends the weight of his words. By telling Mom his "bobo" hurts while showing her his "elbow," then adding he's "going to cry," is unreal! Macaws have genius-level IQ—and not just compared to birds, but all animals—and this one really got me in the heart.

Related: Funny Macaw Blows Kisses to Mom in the Most Polite Rejection

Hook and his adorable conversation make me want to jump through the screen and hug him, and it's not the first time he's done something human-like.

One of his most viral videos shows the funny Parrot on a bit of a rampage as he plays with his dad's empty beer can and cusses Mom out! He has the mouth of a trucker one minute, and then he follows up with something sweet as pie. Hook really is something!

Then, on the flip side, he's just a good boy who wants to play peekaboo. I guess you could say Hook has many sides to him, and they're all entertaining!

@dorecountry

♬ original sound - Hook - talking Macaw How Smart Are Macaws?

Macaws are one of the smartest birds in the world, with cognitive abilities comparable to a 3- to 5-year-old human toddler! These emotionally and socially aware birds can communicate their feelings through vocalizations and behaviors, expressing moods like us.

They understand anger, jealousy, fear, and love, happily sharing those feelings with their human "flock." When it comes to problem-solving and training, Macaws can learn complicated tricks and even how to use tools for foraging and building their habitat.

All of this to say, when Hook says his "bobo" hurts and he's going to cry, he knows exactly what he's saying and what it means. Here's hoping he feels better soon so our hearts can heal right along with him!

Super Rare Corgi-Malamute Mix Just Looks Like a Mega-Corgi and It’s Amazing

Fri, 04/10/2026 - 8:00am

I love Corgis so much. I've always wanted one, but I've also always known that herding breeds are simply not for me. I just can't handle being herded or having my ankles nipped at all the time, which is how many of them operate.

Instead, I just like to watch them. They're so beautiful... And for one Husky Malamute mix, he's everything every Corgi lover has dreamed of. The Malamute doesn't really come through, except for where it matters... He looks like a mega-Corgi! How awesome is that?!

@apollothecorgimute

♬ original sound - apollothecorgimute

Apollo the Corgi-Mute is so perfect. He's adorable, and he's so unique! If no one mentioned that he was half Malamute, I would've genuinely believed that he was just a giant Corgi.

Apollo is beloved by everyone who sees him. He has a couple of classic moves, including his wave. He stands on his hind legs and waves his front paws at anyone and everyone he sees! It's pretty much guaranteed to make everyone's day the moment they see it, as it should!

Apollo is a Corgi-Malamute mix, which is pretty rare: those just aren't two breeds most people would consider mixing together even in their wildest dreams. When mixed, though, they apparently make mega Corgis, which is the silliest thing in the world. Here he is winning over people at Home Depot:

I am a big fan of whatever is happening here. My dogs can't even sit! I'm so jealous.

What Are Corgi-Malamute Dogs Like?

Corgi-Mutes might be a rare breed, but they are certainly an awesome one. Additionally, this is exactly the type of breed you could very reasonably come across in a shelter. Whether you're thinking of buying one from a breeder or you've found one in a shelter, you need to know what you're getting into.

Cardigan Welsh Corgi Mix.

These dogs are sweet, smart, and absolutely stunning, but they're not for beginners. Both Corgis and Malamutes require experienced caretakers, and their offspring are no different. As wonderful as the Corgi-Malamute mix might be, they have some issues:

  • They're prone to escaping.
  • They can be very stubborn.
  • Without proper enrichment, they can turn aggressive.
  • They can be prone to biting.

If you can really handle one, these are awesome dogs. Just giant, fluffy Corgis!

Woman Made Her Boyfriend and His Dog Matching Puffer Jackets—and It’s the Most Adorable Thing

Fri, 04/10/2026 - 7:55am

If you thought matching outfits were just for couples, think again, because this dog dad–dog duo just raised the bar, thanks to one very talented girlfriend.

A post on Reddit’s r/sewing is going viral after one woman shared a custom puffer jacket she designed and made for her boyfriend’s dog, Lola. And yes, it perfectly matches the one she made for her boyfriend.

The result is equal parts functional, fashionable and ridiculously cute.

A Matching Moment That Stole the Show

In the photos, Lola—a tiny pup who looks like a Chihuahua mix—is bundled up in a perfectly fitted mini puffer, complete with sleeves, a hood and cinching pulls. The craftsmanship alone is impressive, but it’s the matching moment with her human that really has people losing it.

“I feel like you’re burying the lead here,” one person wrote in the comment section. “Yes that’s an adorable dog jacket but it looks like you made MATCHING JACKETS for your boyfriend and his dog!!!”

And she confirms: yes, she made both.

Designed With Purpose (and Serious Skill)

According to the creator, the project started with a practical goal. “We go on lots of hikes and Lola gets cold easily,” she explained, which inspired her to design a custom jacket tailored specifically to the pup.

Using Clo3D, she mapped out the design after taking Lola’s measurements, then printed the pattern and adjusted it as she went. She even used a translucent nylon outer layer with a synthetic filling—mixed with faux moss—to create that unique, slightly green, textured look.

She also revealed that she had previously designed the human version of the jacket, which made it easier to mirror the same details, like the hood, sleeve cuffs and adjustable elements, on Lola’s mini version.

The Internet (and Lola) Weigh In

Pair an adorable dog with a tiny jacket, and naturally the people of Reddit had a lot to say.

“This is the cutest thing I have ever seen omg,” one person commented, while another declared it “the most amazing thing I’ve seen this side of 2026.”

But the most important review is Lola’s. When asked if she actually likes wearing it, the creator shared a very relatable answer: “She tucks her paws away at the start of our hikes to avoid us putting it on and as soon as she gets a little cold she practically jumps in it.”

Sounds about right!

Cold Weather, but Make It Fashion

Between the thoughtful design, the technical skill and the undeniable cuteness factor, it’s no surprise this post struck a chord. And honestly, major credit goes to the girlfriend behind it all—because thanks to her, both Lola and her boyfriend are staying warm in style.

Rescue Pit Bull With ‘Big Feelings’ Has the Sweetest Way of Saying Hello

Fri, 04/10/2026 - 7:48am

You can almost feel the energy in the room shift for a dog when the day is over. Her people are back. Everything is right again.

In a viral Reddit video in the r/pitbulls subreddit, we see a couple of scenes of Louise, a rescue pit bull, welcoming her parents home for the day. She has a lot to say, but she does not use her voice to say it. Instead, she does something remarkable.

When her parents walk through the front door, this rescue pit bull does not just wag her tail; she immediately scans the room for a very specific peace offering.

A shoe. Tail wagging, eyes soft and her entire body wiggling, she carries the shoe like it is the most important object in the house.

She trots over proudly, holding the shoe as if she’s presenting a gift. She doesn’t chew it or run off. She just stands there, soaking in the reunion, like this small act completes the moment.

Whether it is a stray sneaker or a discarded flip-flop, Louise must have a shoe in her mouth before she can officially begin her welcome home dance.

And of course, the cherry on the cake is the zoomies at the end of the video.

Commenters Love Louise

Redditors loved seeing Louise's emotions, and several people commented that they could relate to seeing this kind of welcome. One person wrote, “my pit grabs whatever is on the floor when I walk in. I guess that's their way of dealing with excited emotions.” Another person said, “Our girl has an emotional support slipper too.”

The way Louise's body moves is also a sight to behold. As one person put it, “Love the rattlesnake tail shake.”

Related: Shelter Dog Goes on Simple Walk—Then the Unthinkable Happens

A Strange Yet Comforting Habit

Dogs build routines around emotional moments, and coming home is one of the biggest emotional peaks of their day.

For Louise, the shoe isn’t random. It carries her humans’ scent more strongly than almost anything else in the house. That makes it grounding. Familiar. Safe.

If you’ve ever noticed your dog grabbing socks, shoes or even laundry when they’re excited, it’s often their way of channeling that emotional overload into something physical. It gives them something to do with all that energy.

And for them, it is surprisingly calming. Instead of jumping, barking or pacing, Louise has turned her excitement into a predictable, gentle behavior.

You’ve Probably Seen Your Own Version

Maybe your dog brings you a toy. Maybe they grab something they’re not supposed to have. Maybe they spin in circles or freeze for a second like they can’t quite process that you’re actually home.

These small, repeated behaviors aren’t random. They’re how dogs manage big feelings in a world they don’t fully control. That shoe is just a shoe, but to Louise, it's the whole world walking back through the door.

Labrador Retriever Decides Turtle Is Her New Bestie and the Cutest Chaos Ensues

Fri, 04/10/2026 - 7:10am

Many dogs love to befriend other animals. Canines are curious and intrigued by other species and usually find more common ground than differences. It's not always a perfect match but there are times when a relationship forms.

Roxy the chocolate Labrador Retriever recently met a turtle roaming in her neighborhood and wanted to make a new friend.

@alissaflanagan__

I’m minding my own business watching TV and look over to see my dog, Roxy, chilling with a turtle on the couch like she’s hanging with her bestie. This is the second time this week the turtle has been inside. We’ve already relocated it once. Maybe it likes it here?? 🐱 #dog #wildlife #crazydogs

♬ Funny Song - Sounds Reel & Funny Song Studio & Thomas Hewitt Jones

Roxy was chilling on the couch with her new turtle BFF in front of her, lying on its back. When Roxy's mom walked in and saw the impromptu playdate, she was a bit put off.

"Ma'am, why is there a turtle on my couch?" she asked her canine cutie. "Leave that turtle alone."

Roxy looked at her mom like she didn't understand what the problem was. Apparently, this wasn't the first time she invited the turtle over.

"That is the second time you've brought the turtle in this week," her mom continued. "We have already put it at the front of the house, and I guess it came back into the backyard and you brought it in again."

Despite her mom's protests, Roxy didn't move a muscle or make any attempt to show her turtle pal to the door. Her mother tried reasoning with her by giving her the turtle's point of view.

"That turtle has seen some things and it doesn't want to be in your mouth and it probably doesn't want to be in this house, and I don't want it on my couch," her mom explained.

Roxy stared straight ahead, possibly pretending not to hear a word her mom said. She clearly didn't agree with her mother and hoped to silenty change the subject.

Roxy's Mom Made a Suggestion

Though the loving Labrador was being a good neighbor by inviting her new pal inside, Roxy's mom felt it was time for the turtle to go back to where it would be more comfortable.

"Let's maybe put that back outside," her mom prompted, though Roxy didn't look like a fan of the idea.

Roxy's mom wondered if the turtle enjoyed her canine's company and liked the cozy indoor environment.

Roxy's plan to pretend she didn't hear her mom, or that the turtle was invisible, obviously didn't work. Hopefully, her mom let them hang out together outside.

Unusual and Adorable Big-Eared Rescue Pup Looks Like She 'Belongs In a Pixar Film'

Fri, 04/10/2026 - 6:33am

Little Sage, a truly stunning white mixed-breed rescue pup, is capturing hearts with her oversized ears, bright blue eyes, and overall cartoonish presence. In this recent TikTok showing Sage's largely unchanged physical development over the last two years, viewers believe the pup 'belongs in a Pixar film' and that she's "a forever puppy" because of her perpetually petite appearance.

@brookeandsage

My baby is nearly two now! #dogsoftiktok #dogtok #dogmom #doglover

♬ Riptide - Vance Joy

Another devoted fan asserts that Sage's pronounced ears aren't ears at all, but 'angel wings' befitting the heavenly pooch. This unique canine really is a delightful sight, thanks to a buffet of genetic traits she inherited from numerous breeds in her lineage. According to another clip on Sage's account, genetic testing has revealed that she's a "super mutt" composed mostly of Chihuahua and Miniature Schnauzer, along with a smattering of other breeds, like Dachshund, German Shepherd, and Poodle. I think it's safe to say that Sage really is one of a kind and absolutely darling to follow.

Related: Internet's 'Most Elegant' Maine Coon Cat Is Truly a Sight to Behold

Breeds Blessed With Big Ears

How did Sage come by such unique ears, given her tiny size? It's hard to know exactly which of her genetic predecessors blessed Sage with her ears, but there are several that could be responsible. Chihuahuas, Poodles, Dachshunds, and German Shepherds are members of the big-eared club and are all part of Sage's background. Other breeds such as Bloodhounds, Bassett Hounds, Corgis, and French Bulldogs are also known for their oversized ears, but none seem to be in Sage's DNA.

To me, Sage's pointy ears with their long strands of fur most resemble those of the Papillon, a breed actually named for its butterfly-like ears. Testing says otherwise, however, and the wild thing about inheritance: it's a total gamble with random combinations of parental genes creating unique traits.

Whether your dog has big, small, pointy, or floppy ears, keeping them healthy really comes down to a few simple habits—plus knowing that not all ears are created equal.

First, check them regularly. A quick look (and sniff) can help you catch issues early—things like redness, odor, discharge, or excessive scratching are your first clues something’s off.

Cleaning matters, but not in an overdo-it way. Floppy ears typically need more frequent cleaning, while pointy ears can often get by with less. The goal is to remove wax and debris without irritating the ear.

Moisture is the real troublemaker, especially for floppy ears. After baths or swimming, make sure ears are fully dry—otherwise you’re basically creating the perfect environment for bacteria and yeast.

Dogs with pointy ears do have a bit of an advantage here—better airflow naturally helps keep things dry and reduces the risk of infection. That said, they’re not totally off the hook. Dirt, debris, and even parasites can still build up, so occasional checks and light cleaning are still important.

Overall health also plays a role. A well-balanced diet, regular exercise, and routine vet visits all support ear health more than you might think.

Tiny Newborn Dachshund Puppies Are the Cutest Little 'House Dragons'

Fri, 04/10/2026 - 6:27am

Some people call them weinner dogs. Some say hot dogs and some, like my daughter, like to call them corn dogs. But the internet's newest favorite nickname for Dachshunds? The hilariously accurate ‘House dragons’.

There's a precious TikTok video from @wildideaswithbrian showing a snuggly, warm pile of scrumptious newborn miniature Dachshund puppies. The caption: "You wanna see some newborn baby house dragons? I'll show them to you. Here they are."

And there they are in all their doxxie glory. Tiny, wrinkled, barely mobile bundles of pure joy with those signature long bodies and short legs already visible even at this early stage. The video shows each one—a "desert camel" colored pup, what looks like a red dapple, and a solid black puppy with a white crest that the owner jokes could be sold as "a false Labrador."

Aunt Bonnie, another Dachshund in the home, comes over to see what’s going on with the babies. "She's checking out the babies. You don't like any other dogs, but you like babies," the owner explains while Bonnie investigates the newborn Dachshund puppies.

The comments immediately embraced the house dragon terminology.

"I will now be referring to my dachshund as 'a house dragon'" one Dachshund fan declared, officially adopting the new name.

Related: Red River Hog Piglets Born at Walt Disney World Have Everyone Smitten

"I'm a Dachshund parent and I've been having SERIOUS weenie puppy fever. This does not help. 😭" because seeing newborn anythings makes everyones ovaries twitch.

"I love their jellybean phase" describing that early wrinkly stage perfectly.

"Dragon pile! How cute are they!" capturing the adorableness of the situation.

The owner mentions these particular puppies have racing potential. Their mom is the fastest wiener dog in the household, and their dad, Richard Brutus, is fast too. So there  is hope that these little house dragons can someday win some wiener dog races.

Miniature Dachshunds Weigh Eleven Pounds or Under When Fully Grown

Here's what makes these newborns so special: Dachshunds come in two sizes—standard and miniature. Miniatures weigh eleven pounds or less when they’re fully grown, while standards usually fall between 16 and 32 pounds. Both varieites are low to the ground and, usually under nine inches tall.

đŸ¶SIGN UP to get “pawsitivity” delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friendsđŸŸđŸŸ

They also come in three coat varieties—smooth, long-haired, and wire-haired—and a range of colors including red, black, chocolate, and dappled patterns. Coat type actually influences personality. Long-haired Dachshunds tend to be calmer and more laid back, while smooth-coats are more high-spirited and intense. Meanwhile, wire-haired Dachshunds have a reputation as the clowns of the group.

The name itself tells their origin story: "Dach" means badger and "hund" means dog in German. These adorable dogs were bred for this exact purpose; to hunt badgers by following them into underground burrows. Their short, powerful legs were built for digging.

But, now? These adorably sweet fur babies who happen to look like tiny dragons when they're brand new?

House dragons. And it fits perfectly.

7 Orange Cat Breeds Everyone Will Fall in Love With

Fri, 04/10/2026 - 5:10am

If you've always been dreamed of becoming a pet parent, you probably have a long wishlist of elements you want in a cat, ranging from looks to personality. For many, orange cat breeds top the list thanks to their striking coats. From fluffy orange cats who love cuddles to curious ginger cats who keep you entertained, these colorful felines bring personality, charm and companionship to any home. To help you narrow down your choices, we enlisted vets to share 7 orange cat breeds that make great companions.

So, whether you’re looking for a family-friendly orange cat or a bold, adventurous feline, there’s an orange cat breed that’s perfect for your lifestyle. Of course, like humans, a cat’s hair color doesn’t determine how they’ll act. “Even though there are cat breeds that are expected to have a big personality if they are orange, this does not necessarily mean that the cat’s coat color dictates how the cat will behave,” says Aimee Warner, DVM, resident veterinarian at Waggel. “Breed, environment, and early socialization are some of the factors that are at play here.” So, while redheads have a reputation for being spunky and fun, getting a ginger cat doesn’t automatically mean your feline will fall into those categories."

Because of that, there are tons of cat breeds with orange coats to choose from that have all kinds of amazing personality traits. From large orange cats that rival dogs in size to adorable warm-hued lovebugs who just want to cuddle, to smart cream-and-orange cats, these breeds of orange cats have more to offer than just a pretty coat. Check them all out, below and see which one is purrfect for you!

This fluffy feline, which has a range of coat colors, including orange, loves to spend time with its humans. Warner points out that even though they are large in size, these sometimes creamsicle-colored cats have an easygoing demeanor and are also highly affectionate without being clingy.

As giant orange cats, Maine Coons are usually compared to dogs, both in their size and love of playing games like fetch. They’ll also “talk” to you, using trills and chirps to get their messaging across. They’re incredibly smart, too, and love playing with water. Besides that, Warner notes that Maine Coons are impressively socially aware too and while they love to play with their owners and snuggle on laps, they’re also happy to just hang nearby.

An orange cat breed stretching.

Some cat lovers are originally drawn to American Shorthairs due to their short coats, which can lead to less fur tumbleweeds than some other breeds. The good news is, their fur comes in lots of colors, so if you're looking for a shorthaired orange cat breed, you'll love these kitties. But these felines have plenty of personality perks most people can get behind as well. In fact, the American Shorthair is known for its easygoing, happy personality, giving you and your cat plenty of good times ahead.

Julie Hunt, DVM, a veterinarian contributor at Embrace Pet Insurance, describes this cute breed of orange cat as friendly and affectionate, noting that they’re usually up for a good cuddle. “American Shorthair cats are intelligent, frequently talkative, and playful,” she says. They’re also usually content in a range of households, from families to people who live alone.

How Often Should You Bathe Your Golden Retriever?

There's no hard-and-fast rule as to how often you should bathe your Golden Retriever because, after all, some may stay clean while others may enjoy rolling in the mud or even swimming in a pond. If this is the case, they'll require regular baths.

But of course, we all want our pets to look and feel their best, so with that, it's a good idea to strike the right balance between over- and under-washing them.

Experts say you could bathe your Golden Retriever every other week, but you also don't want to dry out a dog's natural oils, which are key to hair growth and good health.

You have to take into account how much time they spend outdoors and what they're exposed to while they're out there. If your pet is dirty from some outdoor playtime, definitely give them a bath.

Echo may have been surprised by this turn of events, but we bet he looks fabulous with his coat clean and fluffy!

Fluffy White Dog Left in Car Honks the Horn Like a Boss Until Family Comes Back

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 8:20pm

You know when a dog decides they’ve had enough, and there is going to be a response? Not a bark. Not a whine. A full escalation. That is exactly what is happening here.

The caption reads, “Passersby couldn't help but laugh at this horn-honking dog who appeared to be waiting very impatiently for [their] family to return,” and yes, impatient is one word for it. This fluffy white dog, who looks very much like a Bichon, is sitting in the car, just absolutely laying on the horn like he has somewhere to be and everyone else is late.

In the TikTok clip, shared by @abcnews, we see the little guy repeatedly hitting the horn while another dog sits nearby, presumably wondering how things escalated to this level. There is no hesitation. No regret. Just honk, honk, honk, like he is personally summoning his family back.

The comments were exactly what you would have hoped.

“He’s saying, come on already!” one person wrote, which is clearly the message.

“You just know he’s bad AF at home,” another added, and honestly, yes. This is not his first offense.

“Where’s my pup cup?” which feels like a very valid question.

“What can I say? He’s impatient,” and that might be the understatement of the year.

“Your Uber is here!” took me out.

“He figured out how to bark from a distance!” which is honestly genius.

“He’s ready to start up and drive off,” and I fully believe that.

“He did warn you all,” and “Hurry up, no more coins for the parking meter,” which really builds the whole storyline.

All jokes aside

Why You Should Never Leave a Dog Alone in a Car Happy dog riding in a car.

Image Via: mistahhh/Shutterstock

Even though this situation looks funny, leaving a dog alone in a car can get dangerous very quickly. Temperatures inside a vehicle can rise much faster than people expect, even on mild days, and it can become unsafe within minutes.

Dogs can overheat easily, especially breeds with thicker coats or shorter snouts, and they rely on panting to cool down. In a hot car, that process becomes much less effective, which can lead to serious health risks.

There is also the stress factor. Even if the temperature is safe, being alone in a confined space can make some pups anxious or reactive, which can lead to behaviors like barking, pacing, or
 apparently honking the horn.

The safest option is always to take your dog with you or leave them at home in a comfortable environment. Because while this pooch found a very creative way to call for help, not every situation ends this well.

Rare Mammoth-Sized Dog Who's Worth Thousands Looks Like the Cowardly Lion

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 7:55pm

Dogs who look like stuffed animals come to life don't get enough credit. With so much pet content everywhere you look, these special pups are in a league of their own—and I think they deserve the spotlight!

One of which is a gigantic, rare dog named Jumper, and he looks exactly like the Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz! This is one fluffy boy ready to steal your heart in every way possible.

View this post on Instagram

Seeing Jumper in all his regal, dignified existence feels like watching a falling star or capturing a double rainbow. This rare Tibetan Mastiff isn't the typical neighborhood pup, but that's what makes him so unique. Between his luxurious, flowing locks, his larger-than-life size, and colossal paws that rival any Grizzly Bear, Jumper is perfection!

Related: Rare Dog With Unique Head Resembles Adorably Fluffy Lamb

Once I spotted Jumper, I had to see more. Luckily, his doting family loves sharing his magical gifts with the world. We may never be worthy of this good boy, but we sure are grateful he exists.

To get a better sense of how huge this Mastiff is, he literally towers over Dad and will do anything to get a taste of that snack. Those gargantuan paws alone are persuasive enough for me—he can have everything he wants! Look at this cutie-pie!

View this post on Instagram How Rare and Expensive Are Tibetan Mastiffs?

We really don't see enough of dogs like Jumper, and it's because experts say Tibetan Mastiffs are a rare and ancient breed due to a lack of reputable breeders, they're typically bred in remote areas, they cost a pretty penny, and they require experienced pet parents to handle their size and independent, protective temperament.

Once poised as a Chinese luxury status symbol in China, these poofy pups can cost anywhere between $2,000 and $6,000 for a puppy, but true, purebred, elite bloodlines and/or rare coat colors can be $10,000 or more! One purebred Mastiff sold for $1.9 million at a pet fair in 2014, making him the most expensive dog in the world.

Jumper has no idea he's such a unique dog who's worth a ton of dough, but his Cowardly Lion vibes are everything good in the world!

Family Makes a Big Home Update for Their Blind Cat—and His Reaction Is Everything

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 6:55pm

Blind cats are surprisingly good at navigating their homes, but that doesn’t mean they don’t occasionally run into walls or bonk their heads. When one family realized their home's layout was working against their blind kitty, they made a big change that’s incredibly thoughtful and heartwarming.

đŸ¶SIGN UP to get “pawsitivity” delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friendsđŸŸđŸŸ

A Home Update With One Very Special Cat in Mind

In a YouTube Short posted by @Girlyyblisss, an orange cat carefully explores a newly opened space in his home. On-screen text explains the update: “We just removed a wall so our blind cat won’t hit it anymore.”

And yes, they quite literally mean removed a wall in their home. It appears the wall used to separate the living room and the kitchen, and now it's completely gone.

The video shows the cat cautiously walking around the area where the wall once was, as if expecting resistance that’s no longer there. Gradually, he seems to gain confidence, realizing the spot where he used to bonk his head is now open. It’s a small, subtle moment, but one that represents a big, positive change for this kitty.

One person wrote in the comment section, “That’s actually so sweet, bless your heart.” We fully agree.

Related: Blind Cat Thinks She's Cleaning Her Feline Brother but the Reality Is Too Funny

How to Help a Blind Cat Navigate Your Home

This family clearly loves their cat and went above and beyond to help him feel more confident and safe in his home. While not everyone can remove a wall, there are a few simple things you can do to make your blind or visually impaired cat’s environment easier and safer to navigate:

  • Keep layouts consistent. Avoid frequently moving furniture, as blind cats rely heavily on consistency and memory.
  • Add soft barriers or padding. This can help prevent injuries in areas they may bump into.
  • Create clear pathways. Open, uncluttered spaces make it easier for them to move around confidently.
  • Use sound cues. Talking to your cat or using consistent sounds can help them orient themselves.
  • Put down textured mats. Use rugs or mats with different textures to mark important areas (like food, litter boxes or beds) or to signal spots where they should slow down, like near walls or stairs.
A Home Renovation With a Big Impact

Not every pet parent can or would go this far to help their cat, but this family did, and it made a real difference. By reshaping their space to support their kitty's disability, they created an environment where he can move more confidently and comfortably.

It’s a great reminder that when we understand how our pets experience the world, we can make meaningful changes that truly improve their quality of life.

This Shelter Cat Forgot How to Play, But This Sweet Moment Shows When She Remembered

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 5:48pm

A shelter cat named Madame Dorée didn't play. She sat in her shelter crate and didn't want to interact with anything. And then, one day, something changed.

At first, it almost didn't register. A small movement. A hesitant paw. The kind of action you could miss if you blinked.

đŸŸ SIGN UP to get “pawsitivity” delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friendsđŸŸ

According to a Reddit post in the r/aww subreddit, Madame Dorée hid in the corner of her crate. Yet, slowly, she began to interact with the toy, and her hunting instincts began to surface. She started pouncing and showing sudden bursts of energy, and it became the moment when everything changed.

Madame DorĂ©e from our shelter is now learning how to play! ❀
by u/sonia72quebec in aww The Day Something Changed

Cats don’t play with toys just because they are there. For cats, play is a sign of safety and calmness.

A quiet shelter animal isn't broken or cold. It's using every bit of its energy just to survive the uncertainty. They often simply observe and stay still. Play is the last thing on their mind—and the last behavior that appears.

Madame Dorée was the same way until volunteers started playing with her.

And then, something changed inside.

As one commenter put it, “Seeing her paw go from slow and careful to fast and excited melts the heart.” Another person commented, “She looks so much like my kitty, it warms my heart to see her slowly but surely getting comfortable. Thank you for the updates!”

Related: Sweet Rescue Dog Wins Over Feral Cat in Heartwarming Snuggle Session

What Play Actually Means for a Cat

Toys help, but they’re not the starting point.

Cats are natural hunters, and their play mimics hunting behavior. In the wild, that means stalking, chasing and capturing. Indoors, it can be anything that triggers those instincts: a string, a shadow, even a moving hand under a blanket.

What matters more than the toy itself is the environment.

If a cat feels safe, stimulated and not overwhelmed, play emerges naturally. Without that foundation, even the best toy will be ignored.

The Moment Her Hunting Instincts Woke Up

In the video, the change is subtle.

She doesn’t suddenly transform into a playful kitten. She tests it. A small reach. A brief interaction. Then she pulls back. And then she tries again.

If you have a quiet or withdrawn cat, this story may change how you see them. If your cat seems distant, it doesn't mean they don't want connection. It means they haven't decided yet if connection is safe.

And one day, often when you’re not even expecting it, you’ll notice a small change. A paw reaching out. A sudden burst of curiosity. You don't fix a scared animal all at once. You just keep showing up until the day they reach back.

20-Year-Old Dog’s Sweet Aging Journey Is Quietly Breaking Hearts

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 4:48pm

He didn’t slow down all at once.

It happened in small ways. A longer pause before standing up. A slower walk to the door. The kind of changes you almost miss because they don’t feel like a moment. They feel like a shift.

Twenty years is 7,300 days of loyalty, and for a dog named Remy, every one of those days has been documented in a journey that defies biological norms.

In a Reddit post shared to the r/aww subreddit, we see that his parent documented something quieter: what it actually looks like when a dog grows older day by day.

Documenting my 20 year old’s dog aging gracefully
by u/c00kie_ in aww Why People Can’t Stop Looking at His Photos

It’s not just that Remy is 20. It’s the way his owner chose to show it.

No filters. No attempt to hide the signs of aging. Just a quiet record of what love looks like when it stretches far beyond the years most people expect.

There's something grounding about that, and the photos make it impossible to look away. The third photo shows young Remy beside the dog he became 20 years later. He had more black fur on his face as a younger dog, and now it has since turned almost entirely white.

The comments filled up fast. One person commented what we all want: “I wish they didn’t have to get old.”

Others reacted by sharing stories of their own dogs. One person wrote, “Now here I am crying and missing my dog during work hours. She was the best and the silliest.”

Dogs don't get enough years, but they never waste a single one of the years they get.

Related: Aussie and Border Collie Meet on a Trail—What Happens Next Is Heartwarming

Most Dogs Never Reach This Age

The comments by Redditors make even more sense when you understand how rare this actually is because dogs living to 20 is extremely rare.

According to the American Kennel Club, the average lifespan for most dogs falls between 10 and 13 years, depending on size and breed. Smaller dogs tend to live longer, sometimes reaching their mid to late teens.

There are exceptions. The oldest recorded dog, Bobi, reportedly lived past 30 years, though cases like that are extraordinary.

Remy, a border collie-Jack Russell mix, sits far outside the norm.

What Aging Looks Like When You’re Paying Attention

The Reddit post doesn’t show a dramatic before and after. It shows something more honest.

Remy still looks for his person. Still rests nearby. Still plays with a ball. Still responds—just on his own timeline now.

Aging in dogs isn’t just physical. Cognitive changes can appear too. According to veterinary research, many senior dogs develop a form of cognitive decline similar to dementia, affecting sleep, memory and behavior.

But they don’t stop being themselves.

If you’ve ever had an older dog, you know this moment.

You call their name, and there’s a delay. Just a second or two. Then they turn, as if they had to travel a little further to get there. When an old dog hears you call and takes a second longer to turn, they're not ignoring you. They just had to travel a little further to get back.

Kittens Are Temporarily Confined in Bathtub After ‘Multiple Civil Infractions’—and It’s Too Cute for Words

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 1:55pm

If you’ve ever tried to contain a group of energetic kittens, you already know it’s less of a plan and more of a temporary illusion.

A popular post on Reddit’s r/aww subreddit shared by user u/JohnTheCatMan1 shows four tiny kittens placed in a bathtub with blankets and a litter box.

The caption reads, “They’ve been placed in temporary containment
after multiple civil infractions!” And honestly, based on their chaotic attempts to escape, the charges seem valid.

Confined Cuteness They’ve been placed in temporary containment... after multiple civil infractions!
by u/JohnTheCatMan1 in aww

The kittens are rescues from Kittens In The Mitten, Inc., a nonprofit based in West Michigan run by John himself.

According to him, the kittens had already destroyed their previous tent enclosure and couldn’t quite be trusted to roam freely without supervision. So, while he set up a new one, they earned themselves a brief stint in the tub (no water included).

Tiny Escape Artists (or At Least Trying to Be)

Inside the bathtub, the kittens are far from defeated. One by one, they try to scale the smooth walls, only to slide back down in the most uncoordinated, adorable way possible.

Meanwhile, one orange kitten—the alleged “ringleader”—seems completely unbothered, happily playing around while the others plot their next move.

Related: Feral Cat’s ‘Rainbow Kittens’ Are a Total Miracle

The Internet Weighs In

Naturally, the comment section had a field day.

“They’re innocent!!” one person wrote.

John quickly played along, replying, “Ohhhh, I see
so you must be their lawyer, defending the tiny ringleaders of chaos!”

Another commenter joked, “This seems like cruel and un-mew-sual punishmeownt,” to which John responded in full character: “Warden speaking
all punishments here are carefully calibrated
temporary, monitored and just enough to let chaos burn itself out.”

Safety First (Even During ‘Lockup’)

While the setup might look like a joke, there’s actually a practical reason behind it.

Young kittens—especially ones with this much energy—can easily get into trouble if left unsupervised. Until their new play area was ready, the bathtub offered a safe, easy-to-clean and escape-resistant temporary solution.

John also clarified that the kittens were supervised the entire time, and this was simply a short-term solution while setting up their new enclosure.

As he put it, his goal is simple: "protect the kittens, give them love and maybe brighten a day for someone who needs the smile."

Mission accomplished.
