Today, in 1962, Paula Abdul was born in San Fernando, Calif., and the multi-hyphenate personality's vibrant dance moves continue to prove that age is nothing but a number. Currently, she may be instantly recognizable from her American Idol days, but her career spans several decades.

Celebrating her 64th birthday this year on June 19, Abdul fell in love with dance at a young age after being inspired by the classic musical, Singin' in the Rain (1952), according to Britannica. A dedicated jazz and tap dance student for many years, she later became a cheerleader in high school, and in college, earned a spot with the Los Angeles Lakers' cheer squad, the Lakers Girls, where she stood out among her peers and became head cheerleader and choreographer within just a few months.

Abdul was first discovered by Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5, and was tapped to choreograph their "Torture" music video in 1984.

Gaining fame as a music artist in the late 1980s, she became known for dance-pop hits like “Forever Your Girl” and “Opposites Attract.” Her debut album, Forever Your Girl (1988), was a major success, producing four No. 1 singles, including "Straight Up," "Forever Your Girl," and "Cold Hearted."

In 1990, Abdul won a Grammy Award for her "Opposites Attract" music video, and in total, she has notched six No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100.

Over the years, she has appeared on reality competition shows like Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, and The Masked Dancer. In addition, Abdul embarked on her first tour in 25 years in 2016, as a supporting act for headliner New Kids on the Block. Two years later, she launched a solo tour, and from 2019 to 2020, Abdul had her own Las Vegas residency.

The dancer-singer-TV personality earned the nickname "Dancing Queen" because of her pioneering choreography in pop music and impact on pop culture's dance/music scene in the '80s and '90s. Her ability to seamlessly add vocals to athletic, dynamic dancing made her one of the defining entertainers of the era.

A 1990 AMAs performance withJanet Jackson is particularly memorable for longtime fans.

"Today, whether alive or deceased, thanks to their popularity and ability to move the masses, sell out millions of records, concert tickets, and merchandise, singers have secured their honorific nicknames through their positive impact on music," Hola! reported, naming Abdul the Dance/Dancing Queen.

As an original judge on American Idol, she joined Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson in being the faces of what became a cultural phenomenon. Honoring her time on the show, she shared an Instagram post last week on its anniversary: "@americanidol premiered 24 years ago today! 💫 Being part of this show from the very beginning has been one of the greatest experiences of my life."

Before John Waynebecame a fixture of Hollywood's Golden Age, he was a baby boy born on May 26, 1907, according to his official website. Originally named Marion Robert Morrison, Wayne was from Winterset, Iowa, where he grew up playing football with his father and brother.

A move to California in 1916 surely set Wayne's film career in motion, when he earned the nickname of "Duke." Wayne went on to attend college at the University of Southern California, where he played football and joined a fraternity. While he was there, he worked part-time at Fox Film Corp (which later became 20th Century Fox and, long after Wayne worked there, 20th Century Studios). It was here that Wayne got his first taste of the silver screen playing a football player as an extra in several movies.

In the 1940s, he became a household name, a on-screen legend many people still love today. In 1964, he was diagnosed with lung cancer. Despite being warned to keep the diagnosis to himself because of his image, Wayne became very vocal about the disease.

According to the History Channel, Wayne died at the age of 72. While he ultimately lost a lung to his cancer in 1964, he rallied and had several good years before being diagnosed with stomach cancer in 1979, dying just months after learning he had been afflicted once again.

The quote from Wayne is attributed to his battle with cancer. And while the exact origin of this quote has never been definitively confirmed, it is widely attributed to Wayne.

Wayne first found out he had cancer in 1964, according to the John Wayne Cancer Foundation, and while he initially beat that version of the disease, stomach cancer later took his life. He became deeply devoted to helping others with cancer, which is where many believe the quote stemmed from.

Wayne was famously full of bravado and frequently played hard and rough cowboys on the silver screen. Saying that "courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyway" means acknowledging your fear (in this case, his cancer) but going on to fight anyway. Many people believe that this act—stepping up to face your fears when you are admittedly terrified—is a bigger sign of bravery than tackling something that doesn't scare you at all.

Wayne likely made this statement to make amends with the way he felt about his health battle, noting that he was frightened of the road ahead, but still willing to walk down it anyway...a feeling that many who have faced a diagnosis like cancer or other chronic disease likely know well.

The "Queen of Country Pop" is giving fans new music before the release of her highly anticipated seventh studio album.

Shania Twain has announced that she will release the title track from her upcoming album, Little Miss Twain, on June 26, giving fans their first major preview of the project as she continues a busy 2026 touring schedule.

The Canadian superstar revealed the upcoming release ahead of the arrival of her seventh studio album, Little Miss Twain, which is scheduled to be released on July 24. The title track will serve as the latest introduction to the record, marking her first album since 2023's Queen of Me.

Twain, widely known as the "Queen of Country Pop," remains one of the most successful artists in music history, with more than 100 million records sold worldwide. Her influence continues to span generations as she balances new music, major live performances and several high-profile projects.

The announcement comes during a busy period for the singer, who is currently appearing at Wembley Stadium in London as an opening act for Harry Styles' "Together, Together" residency. Styles invited Twain to join the run of shows after the pair developed a friendship over the years.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Twain recalled how Styles first connected with her through his mother.

"He said, ‘I'm so grateful to my mother that I was introduced to your music. You've been the queen to me ever since.'"

The singer is opening all 12 Wembley dates, which began on June 12 and run through July 4.

Twain recently shared details about the inspiration behind Little Miss Twain, describing the album as deeply personal and rooted in her early life experiences.

Speaking about the project, she told People the record is a "reflection of my childhood" and the "environment I grew up in."

"I'm turning 60 and I feel good and I've got to celebrate that. I'm grateful to have made it this far," Twain said.

"So I was celebrating that with all of the Queen of Me music. But who makes you who you become basically. I had never shared that with the fans before."

The country icon also discussed revisiting her past while creating the album.

"It was really fun to revisit the past with a really great and positive outlook," Twain said. "I took ownership of being able to say to myself and to share it out loud in the music that it's made me who I am. I wouldn't trade it for anything because I'm actually quite happy with where I am and who I am and I wouldn't trade that."

The album arrives nearly three decades after Twain became a global superstar with blockbuster releases such as The Woman in Me, Come On Over, and Up!.

The new music announcement follows several recent headlines involving Twain. Earlier this month, Sony Pictures moved forward with a biopic titled Shania, which will be written and directed by Leah McKendrick. Twain is expected to be involved as a producer on the project.

Meanwhile, her impact on today's country artists remains clear. Rising country star Ella Langley recently earned millions of views after posting a cover of Twain's classic hit "You're Still the One" on TikTok.

On June 17, 1988, 38 years ago, country icon Dwight Yoakam and his musical hero Buck Owens released their catchy collaboration, “Streets of Bakersfield.” 

By the time the two artists shared their joint offering with the world, the song had already been heard 15 years prior when Owens delivered the track as a solo effort, appearing on his Ain’t It Amazing, Gracie album.

However, Owens’ original version was not a notable success until it was revived as a duet with Yoakam. 

Interestingly, the song may have never been reimagined by the two artists had it not been for an absent Merle Haggard, who was scheduled to collaborate with Owens for a CBS television special, but backed out of his appearance, according to American Songwriter. 

Yoakam, an up-and-coming star at the time, filled in for Haggard, and he and Owens performed the song and later recorded their collaboration for his Buenas Noches from a Lonely Room album, which includes the No. 1 single, “I Sang Dixie.”

Written by Homer Joy, “Streets of Bakersfield” is an uptempo song that features lyrics that share the perspective of someone who arrives in Bakersfield looking for something better. With worn-out boots and a restless spirit, the narrator looks back on his troubled life, which includes a jail stay in San Francisco. 

With a deep resistance to being judged, throughout the song, the singer challenges folks to put themselves in his shoes as he hopes to find a better life and version of himself in Bakersfield. 

Upon its release, “Streets of Bakersfield” became a major success in country music and marked a memorable career milestone for both Owens and Yoakam. Taking the top spot on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart, the tune gave Owens his first No. 1 hit of more than a decade following 1972’s “Made in Japan.” Owens wouldn’t reach that same success again. 

Meanwhile, the beloved classic also serves as Yoakam’s first No. 1 hit following a string of unsuccessful releases, which included albums and singles.

Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian is defending his attendance at President DonaldTrump’s UFC Freedom 250 event.

The fight took place this Sunday at the White House to celebrate the upcoming 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

Ohanian received backlash for his presence at the event and released a statement on XWednesday night explaining himself.

He started the post by condemning UFC fighter JoshHokit’s comment about former first lady Michelle Obama.

“Lot of people asking me to comment: Yes, that fighter's slur about former First Lady Michelle Obama was vile and inappropriate,” he wrote.

The Reddit co-founder added “I was already on my way home when those comments were made and was glad to see Dana condemn them,” referencing UFC CEO DanaWhite.

Ohanian was one of many notable figures who watched the match; others include Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, New York Knicks owner JamesDolan, comedian NateBargatze, and the brother of Pope Leo XIV, Louis Prevost.

He went on to explain, “I attended the UFC event via invitation from TKO/IMG leadership (I own 5 pro sports teams + a league).”

Ending the post with, “For context: I resigned in protest from Reddit (the company I co-founded and built for over a decade) specifically to push it to curb communities for hate and violence on the site.”

The replies to his post were not very forgiving.

“You could have declined that invite, despite your relation to the sports world. Not a great look,” one user wrote.

Another responded to his post with “You shouldn’t have been there. You’re an epic disappointment. With a dynamic and conscious Black wife and Black children being harmed by this administration, you put your cronies over your family AND this country. Shame on you.”

Ohanian and Williams married in 2017 and share two children.

On December 10th, 1967, American singer-songwriter Otis Redding and his band were a part of a plane crash on Lake Monona in Wisconsin. Redding and all other members of the band aside from one were killed in the accident. Redding was just 26 years old at the time of his death.

Just three days before the tragic accident that took Redding's life, he had recorded his final version of the song "(Sittin' On) The Dock of The Bay."

Redding wrote the song in August of 1967 while staying on Bill Graham's houseboat after needing to leave his hotel room in San Francisco that had been swarmed by fans. Redding was listening to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band repeatedly and became fixated on the idea of creating a new sound for himself. This, combined with how he watched the ships come in and out from the houseboat was his main inspiration behind the beginning stages of the track.

The final recording sessions that resulted in "(Sittin' On) The Dock of The Bay" as we know it today took place on November 22nd and December 7th, 1967. There is a distinct whistle melody within the track that despite some disputes, is attributed to Redding himself. Redding felt like the recording they had on December 7th was not quite it and unfinished, however he tragically wouldn't live to record another version.

Following Redding's death, the song was released in January of 1968. R&B and Soul stations had been overrun with Redding's previous hits and immediately put the new track on many playlists. This shot the song to the top of the charts and beginning in early March of 1968, it stayed there for four weeks. "(Sittin' On) The Dock of The Bay" became Redding's top selling song in his catalog, selling more than 4 million copies worldwide.

The excitement around the track and all of the acclaim led to it being the first number one single to be released posthumously by/for an artist.

The legacy of the song and Redding have withstood of the time. Rolling Stone listed the song among its "500 Greatest Songs of All Time." In 1969, the track won two Grammy Awards and in 1998 the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

In an Instagram update, the dynamic duo unveiled their plans for the second half of the year as they bring their first-ever headlining concert tour to the United States.

Greywind will kick off their 12-date tour in Hartford, Connecticut, on September 30 and wrap it up with a finale show on October 13 in Tennessee.

Adding to the exciting news, the band teased fans by announcing indie rock band Rodeo, alternative rock and emo group Hyber and Good Sleepy as their special guests.

Following the announcement, the duo delivered a special message to fans as they gear up for a landmark career milestone.

"When we started this band as kids in a small town in Ireland, this felt impossibly far away. There were moments we thought we'd never get here. But somehow, through every setback, every show, every song, you stayed with us as we grew stronger together," the caption reads.

Furthermore, the band hinted that the upcoming event will not be "just another tour announcement" for them but also a major achievement that they have spent their whole lives chasing.

"So we're going to make these shows the most unforgettable we've ever played," the sibling duo promised, adding "From Killarney... through Severed Heart City... all the way to America."

The upcoming tour this fall is in celebration of their second full-length studio album, Severed Heart City, released on Jan. 16, 2026, which includes the singles "Waterfall," "Make Believe (L.O.V.E. ME)," "Acid Rain" and "I.K.A.M.F."

In addition to their U.S. shows, Greywind will have a series of shows in the U.K. as they join As It Is for their 18-date tour, spanning England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland throughout September.

Rosie O'Donnell tried to step in to help Whitney Houston before her untimely death. However, the former talk show host revealed that Houston's "people" were not receptive to her intervention.

"What a tragedy," O'Donnell told Andy Cohen during her Thursday, June 18, appearance on Watch What Happens Live!

When asked whether she and the "I Will Always Love You" artist were "pals," O'Donnell admitted they were not close.

"I think whenever we saw each other, we got along great. And then she did that movie with Penny [Marshall] and then she and I and Penny hosted SNL together," she recalled. "And that was wonderful. But, you know, I'm the kind of friend that always tells a friend when I think they're in trouble, which doesn't always make the friendships last."

According to Rosie, she tried to inform Whitney's "people" after the artist backed out of her scheduled appearance on The Rosie O'Donnell Show in 1997. The singer canceled just 45 minutes before airtime, which she was supposed to use to promote the Cinderella film that she produced.

"I remember thinking this is like the beginning of the end and somebody needs to help her now, right?" O'Donnell continued. "I mean, everybody gets lost in their life and when you're in the public eye, you get lost very nationally, and it's really difficult, but we can't pretend we don't see what we see."

O'Donnell recalled getting mixed responses from Houston's team, with some telling her, "It's not your business."

She then told Houston's people, "Well, as someone who cares about her and who loves her and wants her legacy to remain, I just wanted to let you know that this is doing her a disservice."

Houston famously battled a drug addiction, often attempting to downplay the severity. During a 2002 interview with Diane Sawyer, Houston admitted to using marijuana, cocaine, pills, and alcohol, "at times."

"I don’t like to think of myself [as] addicted. I like to think … I had a bad habit … which can be broken," she added.

Houston tragically died in February 2012. She was found unresponsive in a hotel bathtub in Beverly Hills, one day before the Grammy Awards. Her official cause of death was ruled accidental drowning.

More than 30 years after audiences first met Woody and Buzz Lightyear, the beloved Toy Story franchise is once again finding itself at the center of family conversations.

Bunnie Xo is speaking out about the argument that ended her 10-year marriage with JellyRoll.

On Monday, June 15, it was revealed that the country singer filed for divorce from the Stripped Down: Unfiltered and Unapologetic author in May.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, he filed for divorce from Bunnie Xo in Tennessee, with sources noting that it was a “mutual decision by the two and a private family matter.”

Just days after the news broke, on Thursday, June 18, the Dumb Blonde Podcasthost revealed what caused their split in an episode titled "The Divorce."

Bunnie Xo explained that as a couple, they have "never been really good" at disagreements and often bottled up their emotions, which she called a "recipe for disaster."

The podcast host shared that on Mother’s Day, she was "fed up and so tired" after an argument with Jelly Roll.

"I just looked at him and I said, ‘Well, file the f---ing divorce papers,'" she said. "And in our relationship, that is the one cardinal thing that you don't say, even though my husband has said it numerous times…. But when I say it, it really holds weight, because I'm not the type of person who says what I don't mean."

She did not explain the details of the fight, but shared afterwards she "packed a bag and left.” She didn’t talk to Jelly Roll for several weeks.

"During that, he was so mad and we were so emotional that he ended up doing exactly what I told him to do and filing the divorce papers," she explained. "Was this divorce mutual? No. It was not mutual, even though I told him to file the divorce papers. I was speaking out of anger and just frustration. But was it necessary for us to have a wake-up call and for us to start having these real conversations? Absolutely."

Jelly Roll filed for divorce on May 18, but stated their date of separation as May 9, the day before Mother's Day.

Jelly Roll did not mince words when he confessed his love for estranged wife Bunnie Xo on stage on Thursday night.

"I wasn't going to talk about this tonight, but while we're talking about liars...the internet is a liar too. It's the only time, and the only city I'm gonna speak about this," Jelly Roll said to a sold-out crowd in Saratoga Springs, New York. "Me and my wife are best friends. We will always be best friends. We just got off the phone earlier today."

He continued, "Nobody cheated on nobody. She just did a whole podcast about it. You could go watch it. Every word of it is the truth. That will be my best friend forever. This is the only time I will ever speak about it. Bunnie, I love you baby. Thank you for those 10 years. They were incredible. Thank you for the next 10 years of friendship."

Jelly shared the kind words — which many fans in the comments called "strange" — hours after Bunnie released a tell-all podcast about their divorce.

Despite the "Son of a Sinner" artist denying cheating rumors, Bunnie Xo previously revealed that her estranged husband had a year-long affair early in their marriage. While she took him back at the time, saying giving him a second chance was the "best decision" she ever made, Bunnie was clear that there would not be a third chance.

According to the Dumb Blonde podcast host, her estranged husband has already started dating.

"His DMs are open," she shared on Thursday evening's podcast.

"Daddy Roll is probably in his finest season, right? He’s feeling himself. He looks so good. He is healthier than he’s ever been," she added. "Don’t be scared. Shoot your motherf—ing shot. I will be the ex-wife, okay? And we’ll have a great time."

Jelly filed for divorce in May after 10 years of marriage. The couple was going through IVF when their relationship fell apart. However, Bunnie revealed that they still plan on raising their unborn son as co-parents.

Cactus, the legendary rock band that emerged in the early 1970s, has breathed new life into a blues classic more than six decades after the song first made its mark.

The group, led by famed drummer Carmine Appice, has released a powerful new version of “Back Door Man,” featuring acclaimed blues guitarist and singer Eric Gales and renowned bassist Billy Sheehan. The track appears on Cactus’ latest album, Temple Of Blues II, available now through Cleopatra Records.

The release is accompanied by a new music video that goes beyond a traditional performance clip, transforming the song into a cinematic ghost story experience.

“Back Door Man” traces its roots back to the blues era and became widely known through Howlin’ Wolf’s recordings. Now, approximately 65 years after the song rose to prominence among blues audiences, Cactus has delivered a fresh interpretation while preserving its original spirit.

According to Appice, the track was chosen as part of a broader effort to create a genuine blues-focused record.

“‘Back Door Man’ is an old blues classic. This version originally appeared on Howlin’ Wolf’s The Howlin’ Wolf Album (often referred to as his ‘Electric Album’),” Appice said, per Ultimate Classic Rock.

“This time, I wanted to make a real blues album for Temple of Blues 2. Temple of Blues 1 was made up entirely of Cactus songs.”

Appice explained that the band approached the song with a fresh perspective while assembling an all-star lineup for the recording.

“We cut the song with my Cactus guitarist, Artie Dillon, and then I started thinking about who should sing and play on it,” Appice said. “I wanted a great blues artist, so I called Eric Gales and asked him to be part of the track. Then I thought Billy Sheehan would be perfect for it, creating a killer blues trio.”

The veteran drummer praised both musicians for their contributions.

“Billy was amazing on the track, even throwing in some lead guitar-style lines alongside Eric while still locking in with the drums. Eric’s vocals and guitar playing were incredible.”

Appice also revealed that he altered the arrangement to increase its intensity.

“When I arranged the song, I pushed the tempo up and changed the energy. Eric thought one section was meant for the drums, so he sent it back. I told him, ‘No, it’s for you to kick ass!’ When I got it back, the three of us had created something really special.”

He added, “The combination of great blues, powerful performances, and incredible energy brought the track to life. Then Pat Regan mixed it, and it sounds awesome.”

New ‘Back Door Man’ Video Turns Into an Urban Ghost Story

Alongside the recording, Cactus invested heavily in creating a distinctive visual companion for the song.

The performance footage was filmed during a Cactus charity concert at the Arcada Theatre in St. Charles, Illinois. From there, Appice worked closely with editor Dom Esposito to develop the video's storyline.

“It all started at our Cactus charity show at the Arcada Theatre in St. Charles, Illinois, where we filmed all of the performance footage,” Appice explained.

Appice believes the final product captures the song’s personality and pays tribute to an earlier era of music television.

“The finished video captures the spirit of the song perfectly. It’s got that classic ’80s MTV feel from a time when music videos were events and every song had a story to tell.”

The release continues a remarkable chapter for Cactus, a band originally formed in 1969 by Carmine Appice and bassist Tim Bogert. More than five decades after its debut, the group remains active, revisiting blues influences that helped shape its sound while collaborating with some of rock and blues music’s most respected performers.

Temple Of Blues II features a lineup of guest artists, including Joe Lynn Turner, Steve Morse, Dee Snider, Tracii Guns, Pat Travers, Rudy Sarzo, Alex Skolnick, Ted Nugent, Bob Daisley, Ty Tabor, Dug Pinnick and Bumblefoot, among others.
