In interviews this week promoting the blockbuster Project Hail Mary, Ryan Gosling offered a series of behind-the-scenes details about Star Wars: Starfighter, the Shawn Levy–directed standalone film opening May 2027, that have generated significant attention among fans of the franchise.

The most substantive revelation involves the production's approach to alien characters. Gosling confirmed that Starfighter will feature practical puppets and physical creature work. Most of the creatures of the first three films, built by Stuart Freeborn and the puppet fabricators at Elstree Studios between 1976 and 1983, were physical objects on set. Yoda, introduced in Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back in 1980, was a rod-and-cable puppet performed by Frank Oz. The Mos Eisley cantina aliens, the Jabba's palace denizens, the Ewoks, all built by hand, all present in the room with the actors.

The prequel trilogy, which ran from 1999 to 2005, shifted that balance heavily toward digital effects. Jar Jar Binks became the most visible symbol of what critics felt was lost in the transition. When J.J. Abrams revived the franchise with The Force Awakens in 2015, he made a deliberate point of returning to practical construction (BB-8 was a functioning physical robot), and the film's creature work drew explicit comparisons to the original films. The two films that followed were inconsistent on that front, and the Disney-era television productions have leaned more heavily on the StageCraft LED volume technology pioneered on The Mandalorian.

Gosling's confirmation that Starfighter is returning heavily to physical creature work is welcome news to fans of those earlier films.

Early in production, Gosling visited the creature shop and was amazed by the depth and breadth of the practical costumes and puppets that were being assembled for the shoot. He became so taken with one alien originally designed as a simple background character that he asked Levy to write him into a scene with it. Speaking toBBC Radio 1's Ali Plumb, he called it among the best scenes he has ever filmed before stopping himself. 'I think I have already said too much,' he said.

Fans are loving it. 'Man..... When I was growing up, I wanted to be a puppeteer or miniatures/sfx,' one fan responded. 'Then right before I started making important life choices, the time of green screens came and CGI replaced everything.... I saw the writing on the wall and pivoted... Now I'm 20yrs into a different career and boom, the puppets and practical sets are back! I love seeing it, just a little bittersweet. 😄'

The other story making the rounds involves further details about a widely reported Tom Cruise event. Levy had previously told The New York Times that Cruise flew his personal helicopter from London to the Starfighter set one day in November, watched the crew film a lightsaber duel in a flooded location, and then picked up a camera and began shooting the sequence himself, standing ankle-deep in muddy water. That footage will appear in the finished film.

Gosling learned about it from a text message. He was on his only day off. 'I worked on that movie the whole time,' he told Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. 'I get one day off, and Shawn sends me a picture of him and Tom Cruise and Flynn [Gray] in the mud.' He added: 'I hope that was an accident.'

Star Wars: Starfighter is the first Star Wars theatrical release set fully outside the Skywalker Saga. It stars Gosling alongside Amy Adams, Mia Goth, Matt Smith, and Aaron Pierre, set approximately five years after The Rise of Skywalker. Between a director fresh off Deadpool & Wolverine's $1.3 billion run, a story built around original characters, practical creature work, and (somewhere out there in the mud) a scene Tom Cruise helped film, the anticipation is more than understandable. The film opens May 28, 2027.

The repainting project, which was first teased at the Destination D23 fan event, is moving at a surprisingly fast clip. Travelers visiting this month have been treated to a castle that is rapidly returning to the classic grays, creams and deep blues that defined the park's opening in 1971.

While the 2020 "pink" makeover was a nod to the 70th anniversary of the Cinderellaanimated film, many purists are cheering for this return to the original "storybook" aesthetic.

Disney Imagineers aren't just picking colors out of a hat; the new (old) look is specifically designed to work with the intense Florida sun. During the 2025 D23 "Beyond the Spires" panel, the team noted that the updated grays and creams are meant to enhance the castle’s architecture, making it appear "picture-perfect" from every angle, regardless of the season.

The best news for those with upcoming trips? The work is nearing completion much faster than anticipated.

Guests who expected to see scaffolding in their family vacation photos are instead finding a castle that looks fresh, crisp and ready for its close-up. It’s a subtle but significant shift that proves sometimes the best way to move forward is to look back at the classics.

Returning Police Shows for Fall 2026Boston Blue (CBS)

Boston Blue stars Donnie Wahlberg as he reprises his role as NYPD Detective Danny Reagan, as he moves to a new position with the Boston Police Department in order to be closer to his son Sean (Mika Amonsen), who is a rookie, following in the family business but just in a new city. Danny is paired with Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family not unlike the Reagans. The Silver family is also comprised of Boston District Attorney Mae Silver (Gloria Reuben), Police Superintendent Sarah Silver (Maggie Lawson), rookie cop Jonah Silver (Marcus Scribner) and renowned Baptist pastor Reverend Edwin Peters (Ernie Hudson).

CIA (CBS)

When by-the-book FBI Special Agent Bill Goodman (Nick Gehlfuss) is loaned out to a clandestine CIA/FBI task force, he finds himself teamed up with secretive and roguish CIA Agent Colin Glass (Tom Ellis). Together they will work covert operations in New York, uncovering international plots, terrorist cells and geopolitical secrets. What Colin doesn’t know about his new partner is he has also been tasked with finding a mole on the CIA part of the task force.

Elsbeth (CBS)

Carrie Preston returns as Elsbeth Tascioni (who was originally introduced in The Good Wife), the cunning yet unconventional consent decree attorney working with the NYPD to track down New York’s most well-heeled murderers, utilizing her unique intuitive insight. Based in the 11th Precinct, Elsbeth’s boss is Captain C.W. Wagner (Wendell Pierce).

FBI (CBS)

FBI is a fast-paced drama about the inner workings of the New York office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This elite unit brings to bear all their talents, intellect and technical expertise on major cases in order to keep New York and the country safe. The Special Agents include Maggie Bell (Missy Peregrym), Omar Adom “OA” Zidan (Zeeko Zaki), Stuart Scola (John Boyd) and Eva Ramos (Juliana Aidén Martinez). Overseeing them is Special Agent in Charge Isobel Castille (Alana De La Garza) and Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jubal Valentine (Jeremy Sisto).

High Potential (ABC)

High Potential stars Kaitlin Olson as Morgan Gillory, a single mom with an exceptional mind – an IQ of 160, classifying her as a high-potential intellectual (HPI), whose unconventional knack for solving crimes leads to a unique partnership with a by-the-book seasoned detective (Daniel Sunjata) at the LAPD.

Marshals (CBS)

Marshals stars Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton, who with the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.

NCIS (CBS)

NCISfocuses on the sometimes complex and always amusing dynamics of a team of special agents forced to work together in high-stress situations. Special Agent Alden Parker (Gary Cole) leads the NCIS team, which includes NCIS Special Agent Timothy McGee (Sean Murray), NCIS Special Agent Nicholas “Nick” Torres (Wilmer Valderrama), and NCIS Special Agent Jessica Knight (Katrina Law). Assisting the team is Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen), a fully licensed medical examiner who runs the morgue; and forensic scientist Kasie Hines (Diana Reasonover). From murder and espionage to terrorism and stolen submarines, these special agents investigate all crimes with Navy or Marine Corps ties.

NCIS: Origins (CBS)

NCIS: Origins follows a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell) as he begins his career as an NIS special agent in the early ‘90s, years prior to the events of NCIS. Gibbs joins the team based at Camp Pendleton, led by the legendary Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid).

NCIS: Sydney (CBS)

NCIS: Sydney is the first-ever international edition of the franchise, based in Australia as a result of rising international tensions in the Indo-Pacific. There an eclectic team of U.S. NCIS agents and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) work together as a multinational taskforce to keep naval crimes in check in the most contested patch of ocean on the planet. Led by NCIS Special Agent Michelle Mackey (Olivia Swann) and her 2IC AFP counterpart, Sergeant Jim “JD” Dempsey (Todd Lasance), this team of Americans and Aussies overcome their differences to solve each case.

Sheriff Country (CBS)

Sheriff Country stars Morena Baccarin as straight-shooting sheriff Mickey Fox, the stepsister of Cal Fire’s division chief Sharon Leone (Diane Farr of Fire Country). She investigates criminal activity while she patrols the streets of small-town Edgewater, contending with her ex-con father, Wes (W. Earl Brown), who is an off-the-grid marijuana grower, and a mysterious incident involving her wayward daughter.

Tracker (CBS)

Based on the series of novels by author Jeffery Deaver, Justin Hartley is back as lone-wolf survivalist Colter Shaw in Tracker. Colter continues to wrestle with hard truths about his family’s history, while aided by his trusted team, he continues to do what he does best: using his instincts and survival skills to find the missing and collect rewards.

Chicago P.D. (NBC)

Chicago P.D. is a police drama about the men and women of the Chicago Police Department’s elite Intelligence Unit, combatting the city’s most heinous offenses: organized crime, drug trafficking, high-profile murders and beyond. At the center is Sgt. Hank Voight (Jason Beghe), who is at ground zero against the war on crime, along with his team.

Law & Order(NBC)

Law & Order is known for its unique split format and examines “the police who investigate crime and the district attorneys who prosecute the offenders.” Hugh Dancy, Tony Goldwyn, Odelya Halevi, Reid Scott and Maura Tierney star.

Law & Order: SVU(NBC)

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is the longest-running primetime drama in American television history. Led by Mariska Hargitay as Captain Olivia Benson, this hard-hitting and emotional series chronicles the lives of the Special Victims Unit of the New York City Police Department, an elite squad of detectives who investigate crimes of sexual assault, child abuse and domestic violence.

Murder in a Small Town (FOX)

Murder in a Small Town follows Karl Alberg (Rossif Sutherland), who recently moved to the quiet coastal town of Gibsons to be the new police chief, and quickly learns that his new town has more than its share of secrets. As a world-class detective, Karl calls upon all his skills to solve murders that, even in this seemingly idyllic setting, continue to wash up on his shore. Meanwhile, his deepening relationship with the town librarian Cassandra Lee (Kristin Kreuk) is challenged as her career and community involvement take her in new and unexpected directions. 

RJ Decker (ABC)

Inspired by Carl Hiaasen’s novel Double Whammy, the series stars Scott Speedman as R.J. Decker, a former newspaper photographer and ex-con who starts over as a private investigator in the colorful-if-crime-filled world of South Florida. The series follows him tackling cases that range from slightly odd to outright bizarre with the help of his journalist ex, her police detective wife and a shadowy woman from his past who could be his greatest ally … or his one-way ticket back to prison.

The Hunting Party (NBC)

The Hunting Party is a high-concept crime procedural about a small team of investigators led by former FBI profiler Rebecca "Bex" Henderson (Melissa Roxburgh). They’ve been assembled to track down and capture the most dangerous killers the world has ever seen, all of whom have just escaped from The Pit, a top-secret government prison that’s not supposed to exist.

Based on Karin Slaughter’s New York Times bestselling Will Trent series, Special Agent Will Trent (Ramón Rodríguez) of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was abandoned at birth and endured a harsh coming-of-age in Atlanta’s overwhelmed foster care system. Now, Will uses his unique point of view in the pursuit of justice and has the highest clearance rate in the GBI.

Returning Firefighter Shows for Fall 20269-1-1 (ABC)

9-1-1 explores the high-pressure experiences of first responders, who run into situations that most of us run away from. These emergency responders must try to balance saving those who are at their most vulnerable with solving the problems in their own lives. The show draws from the real lives of first responders who regularly face situations that are often unpredictable, intense and uplifting at the same time.

9-1-1: Nashville (ABC)

The newest entry into the franchise, 911: Nashville, led by  Chris O’Donnell as Captain Don Hart, is a high-octane procedural about heroic first responders, as well as their family saga of power and glamour set in one of America’s most diverse and dynamic cities.

Fire Country (CBS)

Fire Country stars Max Thieriot as Bode Leone, a young convict who sought redemption and a shortened prison sentence by joining a prison release firefighting program in Northern California, where he and other inmates were partnered with elite firefighters to extinguish massive, unpredictable wildfires across the region. Bode has since graduated the prison program and is now a permanent member of Cal Fire.

Returning Medical Dramas for Fall 2026Best Medicine (FOX)

Best Medicine, based on the critically acclaimed and beloved global hit Doc Martin, follows Martin Best (Josh Charles), a brilliant surgeon who abruptly leaves his illustrious career in Boston to become the general practitioner in a quaint East Coast fishing village where he spent summers as a child. Unfortunately, Martin's blunt and borderline rude bedside manner rubs the quirky, needy locals the wrong way, including schoolteacher Louisa Gavin (Abigail Spencer). Doc (FOX)

Inspired by a true story and based on the hit eponymous Italian drama series, Doc follows the heartbreak and victories of brilliant physician Dr. Amy Larsen (Molly Parker) as she rebuilds her life after a car crash erased eight years of her memory. Determined to get her memory back and piece together who she really is, Amy’s goal is to become the doctor she used to be in those missing years and to eventually, once again, be Chief of Internal Medicine.

While Watson's team of “doc-tectives” may have defeated Moriarty last season, they remain determined in season two in their mission to investigate and treat the world’s most rare diseases for their clinic’s patients. With his eyes fixed on the future, Watson faces an unexpected twist when Sherlock Holmes, who was presumed dead, resurfaces, forcing him to confront a buried secret from his past – one that lies hidden within his own body.

Matlock (CBS)

Matlock stars Kathy Bates as Madeline “Matty” Matlock, a brilliant septuagenarian who achieved success in her younger years and rejoins the workforce at a prestigious law firm with the hidden agenda of finding the person responsible for hiding the discovery in an opioid lawsuit that potentially could have saved her daughter’s life.  Matty is assigned to Olympia (Skye P. Marshall), a senior attorney and key rainmaker with a thirst for justice and the two women team up with Olympia’s ex-husband, Julian (Jason Ritter), the son of the head of the firm to find the answer.

New Legal Dramas for Fall 2026Cupertino (CBS)

Cupertino is a David vs. Goliath legal show set in Silicon Valley. Mike Colter has been cast, as reported by Deadline, as an attorney who, after being fired by a Silicon Valley startup in a stock option theft scheme, teams up with a fellow fired attorney to represent victims of greedy tech gurus.

It’s one of the most emotional songs in Disney history—and on this day in 2000, it took home Hollywood’s biggest prize.

"You’ll Be in My Heart," written and performed by Phil Collins for Tarzan, won the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 72nd Academy Awards—cementing its place as a Disney classic.

The song, which underscores the bond between Tarzan and his adoptive mother Kala, struck a chord with audiences for its heartfelt lyrics and powerful message about love, belonging and protection. Decades later, it remains one of the most recognizable—and tear-jerking—tracks in the Disney catalog.

The night itself was packed with memorable moments.

Hosted by Billy Crystal, the ceremony featured a star-studded presentation lineup, including Cher, who presented Collins, now 75, with the award. Later in the evening, Collins took the stage to perform "You’ll Be in My Heart" live, bringing the emotional ballad to life in front of the audience.

Animation also had a strong presence throughout the ceremony. Buzz Lightyear and Sheriff Woody made a special animated appearance to present the award for Best Animated Short Film, which went to The Old Man and the Sea.

Music from Disney and Pixar films was also front and center. Sarah McLachlan and Randy Newman performed "When She Loved Me" from Toy Story 2, another emotional standout that has endured with fans over the years.

And in a nod to Disney’s legacy, "When You Wish Upon a Star" from Pinocchio was performed as part of a sweeping medley celebrating iconic movie songs.

The ceremony also took time to honor those the industry had lost. Presented by Edward Norton, the In Memoriam tribute recognized 27 individuals, including actor Jim Varney and legendary Disney animator Marc Davis.

But it was Collins’ win that remains one of the night’s most lasting highlights.

More than two decades later, "You’ll Be in My Heart" continues to resonate.

"There's just a way this is even so much harder on Annie, and Tommy, and Olmo because they're there. And they were there every day for my mom. They made it possible for her to stay in the house that we grew up that she loved so much."

Nancy was last seen at her Catalina Foothills home on the evening of Jan. 31. Her family reported her missing on Feb. 1, and the Pima County Sheriff's Department and the FBI has been searching for her ever since. As of writing, no suspect has been named in the case.

“Eve Plumb had done Dawn, Portrait of a Teenage Runaway, this TV movie that was huge and just broke her image, and she was off to the races. She's going to have a great career,” Olsen said in the 2025 interview. “And she was contractually signed to do the sequel, which was called Alexander the Other Side of Dawn. And so they replaced her, and it's kind of sad because Eve is enough of a team player that it bothered her.”

Olsen then revealed that she made a comment about the situation that annoyed her TV mom, Henderson. “The one time that Florence Anderson gave me a look that I'm still shocked that I didn't turn into a pillar of salt,” she shared. “If looks could kill.”

“They were all talking about Eve, and you know, what she's doing with this and that," Olsen continued. "And I said, ‘Don't we all wish we had something better to do than this show?’”

Susan Olsen remained close to Florence Henderson

Despite Henderson’s evil eye, Olsen was always close with her TV mom as well as with Henderson’s real-life children.

“That’s how you know how good a mom she was. Two families and a career, and her kids still turned out terrific,” Olsen told Variety following Henderson’s death in 2016.

As a child, she sometimes had sleepovers with Henderson’s daughter Lizzy.  “Lizzy and I had made a mess in the bathroom, I think, and I got to see her get mad at us. It was neat,” Olsen said of one of her off-camera moments with Henderson.

She also revealed that Henderson saved her from falling into the ocean when the Brady Bunch cast filmed in Hawaii in 1972, and she was bumped over the side of an outrigger.

“I’m not a strong swimmer at all,” Olsen said.  “I didn’t have any family on that outrigger to calm me down. Except for Florence.”

Olsen admitted she had hoped that The Brady Bunch would end when it did because she was getting into an awkward pre-teen phase. “To some extent, I felt guilt," she told Corgan in the interview. "Because I'd been praying for the show to be canceled."

Even though the show had been canceled, there was talk of continuing the younger cast members’ musical act after the six Brady kids’ had toured in 1973 and 1974.

A 1975 tour featuring Olsen, Plumb, and Lookinland was planned even after the three older Brady teens bailed.

“We were still going to continue the music, but Barry wanted to do his own solo thing. And Maureen wasn't into it,” Olsen told Corgan. “And Chris stopped. Chris quit before the show was canceled. We had a last appearance with Chris in Minnesota, and he hated it, he didn't feel like he could sing …it was embarrassing to him."

“So the Brady Three were going to go,” she shared. “Me, Mike, and Eve. … We got this whole act done and we had costumes, and I hated it. I thought it was horrible. I thought we were horrible, and I really didn't want to do it. And we got our booking agent, who was Andy Williams’ brother, Don Williams, and we never booked a single show. And I was just like, 'This is great.' He just couldn't book it, or he didn't book it, or I don't know what happened, but it was just. 'Please, don't let us have to go out and do this.'”

But Princess Cruises just opened bookings for its 2027–28 South America season, and it’s once again bringing back a feature that is surprisingly rare for a ship this size: overnighting in the Antarctic Peninsula.

It’s Not a "Drive-By"

In the competitive world of big-ship cruising, Antarctica is often more of a marketing footnote than a destination. If you look at lines like Carnival or Royal Caribbean (which typically only dip south during massive World Cruises), their time in the ice is often restricted to "scenic cruising" days. A landmark pop-soul track for the iconic music duo Daryl Hall and John Oates, "Rich Girl" soared to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 on March 26, 1977, exactly 49 years ago to the day.

The massively successful, toe-tapping track was included on Hall and Oates' album Bigger Than Both of Us in September 1976, before it came out as a single in January 1977—the same month it debuted on the Hot 100.

"Rich Girl" became Hall and Oates' first song to reach No. 1, where it remained for two weeks in a row, solidifying the duo's breakout stardom. But it was just the start of the chart-topping success they would see throughout the next decade, with five more No. 1 hits to follow during the '80s.

Four years after the success of "Rich Girl," they earned their second No. 1 with "Kiss on My List," which reigned at the Hot 100 summit for three weeks. Why was it canceled: Loosely adapted from Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables, the heartwarming Canadian drama Anne with an E ran for three seasons on CBC in its home country and on Netflix internationally. Why was it canceled: The Wachowskis' sultry sci-fi drama—which follows eight strangers from around the world who discover that they're inextricably linke—ran for two seasons before Netflix cut the show in June 2017. According to Netflix executive Ted Sarandos during the PGA's Produced By conference, the series was canceled due to its extremely high production costs; after all, shooting on location across eight different cities ain't cheap. “The audience was very passionate, but not large enough to support the economics of something that big, even on our platform,” Sarandos said, per The Hollywood Reporter.
