Quote of the Day: Michael Douglas on Finding Joy in the Moment

Thu, 03/26/2026 - 6:14am

Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, in 1944, Michael Douglasgrew up in one of the most famous families in Hollywood—and spent most of his early life convinced he'd never measure up. That's because his father was Kirk Douglas—one of the biggest movie stars on the planet. "I thought I could never be the actor Dad was, so I avoided it for a while," he's said. In fact, he stumbled into acting almost by accident. As a student at the University of California, Santa Barbara, Michael selected theater as a major only because he had to pick something.

"I remember the first show I did, [my dad] said, 'Michael you were absolutely terrible,'" he told ITV. "And he was so relieved because he thought, 'I don't have to worry about my son becoming an actor.'"

But he didn't let his dad's criticism stop him. At just 31, Michael won his first Oscar for co-producing One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Over the years, he's captivated audiences across the globe with his portrayals of charming—and sometimes morally questionable—characters in legendary films like Wall Street, Fatal Attraction and Basic Instinct. He entered the Marvel universe as Hank Pym in the Ant-Man franchise. He's been a box-office fixture and critically acclaimed star for over five decades and has been happily married to Catherine Zeta-Jones since 2000.

But in 2010, Douglas shocked the world with his stage IV cancer diagnosis. The treatment was grueling—eight weeks of radiation and chemotherapy that made it difficult to eat or swallow—but he successfully beat it. Beyond his own health battles, Douglas has endured agonizing heartbreak. His younger half-brother—Eric Douglas—struggled with addiction for years and passed away in 2004, while his eldest sonCameron Douglas—battled severe addiction and served nearly seven years in federal prison. (Happily, Cameron is now healthy and sober!)

Through it all, Douglas never lost his sense of gratitude. He's not chasing awards or box office records. He's seeking something much simpler—and that's exactly why Michael Douglas is today's quote of the day.

Quote of the Day by Michael Douglas

"I'm just looking for the joy of a good moment."

Speaking to AARP The Magazine in 2021, Douglas offered this reminder after decades of navigating life's heaviest storms in the public eye. Every day, he chooses to anchor himself in the present, finding deep gratitude in the simple, everyday things we so easily overlook in the chaos of life. And frankly, we should all be doing the same.

Deeper Meaning of Michael Douglas' Quote: Living in the Moment

Douglas has faced and overcome so much loss and adversity that it's changed his outlook on life. Now, he feels gratitude and finds the simplest joys in every moment. "It feels like a rebirth after you go through cancer and you come out of it," he told The Daily Mail. "You see priorities differently. You have a much deeper appreciation of marriage, of your children—you see everything a little bit clearer, and a little brighter." And if everyone took his words to heart, the world would be a lot brighter, too.

The Carry-On Hack That Never Fails Me After 5 Years of Travel

Thu, 03/26/2026 - 6:10am

I’m a self-proclaimed carry-on pro, and I take that title very seriously. What I mostly share online is tips and tricks on how to pack your carry-on in the most effective way possible. I love to help transform people who are used to carrying large suitcases into people who can fit a week or even two weeks of belongings in just a carry-on and a personal bag.

Now, you’re probably wondering, how did I get this good at packing a carry-on?
Along with being a travel writer, I’m also a performer. I’ve traveled the country on a Broadway tour for a year with just a single suitcase. I also danced on cruise ships for over five years, and if you know anything about the crew quarters on ships–they are incredibly small. Living in both of these scenarios taught me how to pair down my belongings, how to pack things in a concise and condensed way, and how to know what’s really necessary and what isn’t.

View this post on Instagram

One thing that I don’t cover much, however, are my hacks to getting through the airport with a carry-on. Many people are fine with packing light, however they don’t like the added stress of putting all of their belongings through TSA or dragging their bags around the airport. Lucky for you, I excel in this area, too. Today I’m going to share my number one tip to making your life easier in the airport while traveling with a carry-on.

There Are Certain Things You Should Keep In Your Personal Item

In a Youtube video by Aly Smalls, a creator who also flies carry-on only, she shares her top tips for getting through the airport seamlessly. While I agree with most of her tips, one stood out to me the most. She touched on the fact that many people get stressed about their carry-on when going through TSA. This is probably because they are packing items in there that need to be taken out once they place their items on the conveyor belt. That, my friends, is the biggest mistake you can make.

In airport security, you usually need to remove liquids and electronics when getting your items scanned. To make your life much easier, pack those items in your personal item. I always bring either a backpack or large shoulder bag as my personal item. Here, I’ll place my laptop, chargers, liquid makeup and liquid toiletries. Then, once I get to security, I can pop my carry-on straight onto the conveyor belt with no worries. I don’t need to unzip it, digging through my items and ruining my carefully packed bag.

Instead, I slide my laptop out of my shoulder bag, and then grab my bag of liquids as well. Having them easily accessible in this bag is key. Place them in areas that are easy to get to, and that won’t disrupt the other items in the bag. Then, you can take them out swiftly, and put them back with the same ease.

Wear A Fanny Pack While In The Airport

Another tip that I have that will make your airport experience much smoother is to wear a fanny pack. Inside, you should keep your phone, passport and wallet. Having them close to your body will allow you to feel a bit more at ease–knowing exactly where they are at all times. Plus, they’ll be easy to grab as well, so when you need to show your passport or boarding pass on your phone, you don’t need to open or dig through any of your bags.

Now, make sure your fanny pack is small enough to fit into your personal item once it ‘s time to board the plane. Many airlines will consider the fanny pack as its own personal item, so as long as it can fit inside your bag when boarding the plane, you’ll be good to go. If you do have an issue where the fanny pack doesn’t fit in your bag, you can simply throw on a jacket over your fanny pack. I’ve done this many times, and have never been asked to remove my jacket when boarding.

This Underrated Debut Launched a Pop Empire 13 Years Ago Today

Thu, 03/26/2026 - 6:00am

Thirteen years ago today, Ariana Grande—a then-rising, young singer—released a debut single that would go on to define the early 2010s pop landscape and lay the foundation for a full-blown global takeover. "The Way" arrived without the weight of massive expectations, but it didn't take long for listeners to realize that Grande had something seriously special.

At the time, Grande was best known for her role as Cat Valentine on Nickelodeon's Victorious (2010–2013) and its spin-off Sam & Cat (2013–2014), not for chart dominance. But "The Way" blurred the lines. The song fuses early-2000s R&B influences with a fresh pop sensibility that felt both familiar and new. It's an effortlessly catchy track, but what truly stood out at the time was Grande's bodied vocals. Fans fell in love with her powerful yet controlled, sweet yet technical voice.

The collaboration with the late rapper Mac Miller (who was a good friend at the time, before they famously dated) added another layer of credibility. His contributions to the track allowed it to cross genre boundaries and reach a wider audience. Their chemistry felt natural, giving the song an authenticity that really resonated with listeners.

Miller's guidance in her early years is why Grande "was so eager to ask him to be a part of 'The Way,'" she told a Masterclass panel at Chapman University—"not only because he was perfect for the song," but also because she "felt like [she] had him to thank for finding [her] sound," she said.

On the 10th anniversary of the song's release, Grande reposted a clip from the music video, with a simple but storied note to Miller, who passed away in 2018: "I love you."

Three years later, the track still marks a pivotal point in her entertainment career and the music industry, at large. It set the tone for what would become a career defined by chart-topping hits and cultural influence.

Ariana Grande has since won dozens of major awards—including two Grammy Awards, multiple MTV Video Music Awards, American Music Awards, and Billboard Music Awards. She has also earned over 300 nominations, solidifying her as one of the most awarded and influential pop artists of her generation.

This 1996 Album Launched a Country Superstar And a New Music Genre

Thu, 03/26/2026 - 6:00am

On March 26, 1996, Shania Twain's second album, The Woman in Me, sat at No. 1 on the U.S. country charts and No. 5 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. A departure from the more traditional country sound of her debut album, it marked her first collaboration with producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange, who was also her then-husband.

The album, released on February 7, 1995, was a turning point in Twain's career and propelled her to international attention. The Woman in Me ended up selling 4 million copies by the end of the year, becoming 1995's top-selling country album. The following year saw more acclaim, when Twain earned her first Grammy Award for Best Country Album. Of the eight songs that were released, four of them reached No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart: "Any Man of Mine," "(If You're Not in It for Love) I'm Outta Here!," "You Win My Love," and "No One Needs to Know."

On November 17, 1997, Twain became the first female country artist to have an album awarded diamond certification, after The Woman in Me sold more than 10 million copies. By 2000, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) had awarded it 12x Platinum certification, when sales reached 12 million.

"The fact that it went Diamond was a personal achievement for me because a lot of those songs had been rejected earlier on in my career, by other producers and A&R departments," Twain explained to Official Charts in 2020. "I felt a bit of a ‘I told ya so!’ It was very satisfying, I have to admit."

1997 saw the release of her third album, Come on Over, which surpassed The Woman in Me with more than 40 million copies sold worldwide. Eventually, it even received double diamond certification. Still, her sophomore album will always hold a special place for Twain, as the moment her career changed.

"The Woman In Me was the big deal of my recording career as a songwriter," she continued. "From then on, I would write or co-write all my albums. It set the bar for me as far as what I wanted to continue doing [and] it put a healthy pressure on me. It also knocked out all the naysayers and gave me more creative freedom from then on."

Delta Is Stripping Members of Congress of Major Travel Perks—And the Reason Is Direct Payback for the Shutdown

Thu, 03/26/2026 - 5:51am

In a move that’s turning heads across both the travel and political worlds, Delta Air Lines has made an unusually bold decision: it is temporarily halting special travel perks for members of Congress during the ongoing government shutdown.

On the surface, this might seem like a small operational change. But in reality, it signals something much larger: an intersection of travel, politics, and accountability.

What Delta Actually Did

For years, members of Congress have received special treatment when flying, including airport escorts, expedited security assistance, and access to premium customer service teams. But as the current shutdown drags on, Delta has suspended these perks entirely.

Now, lawmakers are being treated like any other traveler, relying on their frequent flyer status, not their political position.

This shift comes as airports across the U.S. face mounting strain. With thousands of TSA workers going unpaid, staffing shortages have led to long lines, delays, and widespread frustration.

Delta’s message is clear: when the system is under pressure, preferential treatment for elected officials is no longer justifiable.

@yahoonews

Delta Air Lines is pausing the special perks it offers members of Congress amid the ongoing partial government shutdown, which has created long waits at airport security checkpoints across the country. “Due to the impact on resources from the longstanding government shutdown, Delta will temporarily suspend specialty services to members of Congress flying Delta,” the airline wrote in a statement first acquired by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Read more at the link in our bio.

♬ original sound - Yahoo News - Yahoo News Why This Move Matters

During a shutdown, many federal employees, including TSA agents, are either furloughed or working without pay. At the same time, members of Congress, who are responsible for resolving the funding impasse, have historically continued to receive certain privileges.

By removing those perks, Delta is leveling the playing field. It’s also applying pressure, subtly but effectively. If lawmakers experience the same delays and frustrations as everyday travelers, the urgency to resolve the shutdown becomes more personal.

Delta’s CEO has already been vocal about the issue, calling the situation “inexcusable” and criticizing the use of essential workers as political leverage.

The Bigger Political Context

This decision comes amid a broader debate about fairness and accountability in government. The current shutdown, which began in February 2026 due to disagreements over Department of Homeland Security funding, has had widespread effects from airport disruptions to workforce shortages.

At the same time, there have been increasing calls in Washington to eliminate special treatment for members of Congress during shutdowns altogether. Some proposals have focused on withholding pay or removing perks to ensure lawmakers feel the direct impact of their decisions.

Delta’s move, in many ways, mirrors this sentiment by acting ahead of legislation by implementing a real-world version of that accountability. It’s not often that a major airline takes a stance that so clearly intersects with politics.

Companies typically avoid actions that could be perceived as partisan. But Delta has framed this decision not as political, but as operational and ethical by prioritizing employees and customers during a time of strain.

Still, the implications are hard to ignore. By treating lawmakers like any other passenger, Delta is reinforcing a broader idea: access and privilege should not override fairness, especially during a national disruption.

What It Means for Travelers

For everyday travelers, the move may not change much directly, but it highlights the broader impact of the shutdown on the travel experience. Longer TSA lines, fewer staff, and increased delays are already affecting millions of passengers.

Delta’s decision to suspend congressional travel perks may seem like a small policy shift, but it carries outsized significance. It reflects growing frustration with the effects of government shutdowns, highlights the real-world consequences for workers and travelers, and underscores a broader push toward accountability.

Whether or not legislation eventually formalizes these changes, one thing is clear: the expectation that lawmakers operate under the same conditions as the people they serve is gaining momentum and in this case, it’s not Congress leading the charge, it’s an airline.

Six Flags' NJ Flagship Reveals Five New Rides and 'Gabagool'

Thu, 03/26/2026 - 5:41am

Six Flags Great Adventure is leaning into Garden State nostalgia with the reveal of Shoreline Pier, a massive 2026 expansion designed to bring the energy of the Jersey Shore directly into the Jackson woods. And it's not just a surface-level refresh—it is a full-scale boardwalk transformation that anchors the park’s flagship identity in the neon-soaked atmosphere of iconic oceanside amusement piers.

Opening in late spring 2026, the new area introduces five distinct attractions, four of which are brand-new to the Great Adventure lineup.

“Shoreline Pier celebrates everything people love about New Jersey’s legendary boardwalks—the motion, the magic, the tastes, the thrills and the timeless sense of adventure,” said Michael Fehnel, Park Manager of Six Flags Great Adventure. “This new area blends the alluring vibe of shore towns with classic midway fun, creating a destination that feels both nostalgic and brand-new.”

Leading the charge is Barrels O’ Fun, a family-friendly coaster that sends riders dipping and twisting in wooden barrel cars, followed by the Flying Scooters, a classic pier staple that allows guests to pilot their own flight using manual sails.

The skyline also sees the return of a fan favorite with the Wave Swinger, a breezy swing ride that resurrects the spirit of the original Flying Wave, which thrilled guests for over three decades until 2007.

Joining the lineup is the Hypno Twister, a high-intensity spinning ride with four interlocking arms, and the Super Roundup, a high-energy platform ride that tilts 80 degrees while pinning riders to the wall with centrifugal force. This classic attraction is reclaiming its original name after a complete mechanical makeover, marking a return to its 1974 roots.

Beyond the machinery, Shoreline Pier focuses heavily on a "Jersey-fied" culinary lineup that reads like a local diner’s dream. The menu highlights include fresh-cut fries with bold dipping sauces like curry and sriracha, alongside "disco fries" topped with gravy and mozzarella. For a more aggressive local flavor, the park is introducing Gabagool On-a-Stick—capicola dipped in corn batter and finished with a hot honey drizzle—alongside dessert hybrids like the Triple Blueberry Roundup and the Holey Cannoli funnel cake.

To keep the energy high after the sun sets, a new limited-time event called Boardwalk Nights will deploy stilt walkers, live musicians, and high-energy stage performances to ensure the pier stays active well into the evening.

This 2026 rollout is part of a broader growth strategy that includes mechanical upgrades to the legendary El Toro coaster and a teaser for a major new roller coaster slated for 2027.

The season officially kicks off with an exclusive Season Passholder Preview Night on March 27, followed by the Safari Spring Break Celebration starting March 28. This event marks the return of the Safari Off Road Adventure access from inside the theme park, allowing guests to transition from the boardwalk to one of the largest safaris outside of Africa as part of their standard admission.

1987 Timeless Country Love Song That Became a Romantic Anthem of the Decade

Thu, 03/26/2026 - 5:41am

Few songs capture enduring romance quite like a 1987 country classic by Randy Travis, a tune still considered the most beloved of the decade.

Released during the height of the neo-traditional country movement, “Forever and Ever, Amen” stood out for its sincerity. Travis’s rich baritone delivered a promise of lifelong devotion during a time when he and other musicians of the era leaned back into recording more traditional-sounding country music.

The song’s charm lies in its straightforward message: a love that lasts through time, age, and life’s inevitable changes. Lines about loving someone, “as long as old men sit and talk about the weather,” struck a chord with listeners.

According to American Songwriter, Paul Overstreet and Don Schlitz were the songwriters of “Forever and Ever, Amen.” The duo also wrote Travis' other chart-topping hit, “On the Other Hand.”

The song comes from Travis’s second album, Always and Forever. Its lyrics were inspired when Overstreet heard his then-fiancée’s young son saying his nightly prayers.

Songfacts reported that the child was learning the Lord's Prayer, and he added the words "forever and ever amen" after everything he said. Overstreet recalled, "He would say, 'Mommy, I love you. Forever and ever, amen.' So Don said, 'We've got to write this.' I said, 'How about tomorrow?' He says, 'No, now.'"

Overstreet and Schlitz worked on the song that very evening, recording a demo and sending it to Travis. He loved it, and it ultimately became Always & Forever's lead single and hit the top of Billboard's country charts for three weeks.

However, the song wasn't initially written with Travis in mind. Overstreet told American Songwriter, "When we wrote ‘Forever and Ever, Amen,’ I wanted to take it to George Jones. Our publishing company wanted to take it to Randy. So, they got that song.”

“Forever and Ever, Amen” became Randy Travis’ signature hit, earning a 1987 ACM and CMA Award and a Grammy in 1988. Even today, it’s often ranked among the greatest country love songs ever recorded, proof that sometimes, the simplest promises are the ones that last the longest.

Randy Travis continues to perform. He has tour dates scheduled throughout 2026.

4 Key Personality Traits of People Born in December

Thu, 03/26/2026 - 5:33am

December often feels like two months in one. Starting out so busy, festive, and frenetic during the first two weeks, the last two weeks of the final month of the year are often far more quiet, contemplative, and goal-focused as the next calendar year comes into view. But there’s a lot to love about both parts of this memory-making, merry time of year. Whether you’re eager to trim the tree, sing festive songs, or nosh on delicious traditional treats with your loved ones, or you’re fired up to begin envisioning what you want to accomplish in the days and weeks on the horizon, December has something to offer just about everyone. And this magical, eye-opening, heartfelt, anything-can-happen tone is brought to you by the astrological energies that take hold in December.

Whether you’re a December-born person yourself or you care about someone who is, keep reading to learn how the twelfth month of the year influences a person’s perspective, strengths, and even challenges.

The Astrology of Being Born in December

People born in November fall under one of two zodiac signs: adventurous, go-big-or-go-home Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21) or practical, no-nonsense, hardworking Capricorn (December 22 - January 19). Those who entered the world when the sun was moving through Sagittarius, symbolized by the Archer, tend to be gregarious, upbeat, spiritually-aware, direct, ambitious, and fun-loving. Meanwhile, those who were born when the sun was moving through Capricorn, symbolized by the Sea Goat, are pragmatic, down-to-earth, industrious, hardworking, and traditional. In turn, these energies lead December-born people to be bold go-getters who don’t shy away from taking the reins in order to chase down their wildest dreams.

4 Core Personality Traits of Those Born in December1. Goal-Oriented

People who were born when the sun was spending time in Sagittarius, which is ruled by expansive Jupiter, don’t hesitate to pursue lofty aspirations. They believe it’s always better to go big. If they’re interested in writing professionally, they’re going to strive to get published versus keeping a private journal. If they want to travel, they’re going to make sure they have a passport and a Duolingo account. Meanwhile, those who came into the world when the sun was in Capricorn are hardworking, grounded, and ambitious. Their ruler, taskmaster Saturn, imbues them with the ability to put their nose to the grindstone to achieve anything they set their minds to.

2. Adept at Practicing Gratitude

As a result of being the final month of the year, December can’t help but inspire us to reflect on how far we’ve come over the last twelve months. On the heels of a holiday that centers on being thankful, we’re often struck by how much we have — and what we can do for others to spread the wealth. That tone absolutely influences the personalities of anyone who was born in December. Sagittarians innately think in a big picture way and are proud to pour their huge hearts into taking note of their blessings, while Capricorns understand that being appreciative of their blessings sets the stage for even greater happiness and success

3. Adaptable

December isn’t just a month that hosts two distinct vibes. It’s also a period of time that is colored by a wide array of factors: Your spiritual practices, the place you call home, where your loved ones live, where you want or need to travel, what your work looks like, and more variables can shape what the month looks like for you. Similarly, both adventure-seeking Sagittarius-influenced and go-getter Capricorn-informed people are able to pivot if the moment calls for it. Neither is the type to dig their heels in. December-born people know that the tide turns, and in order to make the most of the moment, they need to embrace shifts, too.

4. Courageous

Sagittarius-fueled people are fired up to explore uncharted territory almost as a rule. They’re daring, full of wanderlust, and gleeful about flaunting their adventurous side. Meanwhile, those who are born when the sun is in Capricorn don’t hesitate to put themselves on the line to either step into daunting leadership positions, become entrepreneurs, or create a family life that others might envy. Either way, December-born people believe in putting everything they have on the line to turn their dreams into reality.

1978 Hit Ranked 'Best Yacht Rock Song' of All Time 'Effectively Launched a Genre'

Thu, 03/26/2026 - 5:31am

You don’t have to own a yacht to enjoy yacht rock. You just need a breeze, a vibe, and somewhere to drift.

Oh, and the best yacht rock song of all time, of course.

Best Yacht Rock Song of All Time

Ranked by Ultimate Classic Rock, the “Top 50 Yacht Rock Songs” is full of ’70s hits, deep cuts, and nautical jams. From “Sailing,” by Christopher Cross, and “Rosanna” by Toto, to “I Can’t Tell You Why,” by the Eagles, and “Dreams,” by Fleetwood Mac, the playlist is everything you want for kicking off warmer, longer days.

The best place to start? At the top, with the No. 1 ranked yacht rock song of all time, “What a Fool Believes,” by TheDoobie Brothers

Released in 1978, the track is a single off the band’s “commercial powerhouse” album, Minute by Minute. About the lies we tell ourselves about old flames, it was written by Michael McDonald with Kenny Loggins and hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on April 14, 1979, "effectively launching a genre in the process,” UCR writes.

“The song's style was copied for the next couple of years (most shamelessly in Robbie Dupree's 1980 Top 10 ‘Steal Away’), and McDonald became the bearded face of yacht rock,” the outlet adds.

Writing a Classic With Kenny Loggins

With McDonald stepping up as the band’s leading artistic force, The Doobie Brothers were entering a new era. After “Takin’ It to the Streets” and “It Keeps You Running,” both written by McDonald and released in 1976, per American Songwriter, the bros were on their way to a easy-breezy reinvention.

“Kenny Loggins and I had been chatting about getting together to write some songs," McDonald told The Guardian in 2022 about the genesis of the song. "He came over to my house in LA just as I was playing what I had for ‘What a Fool Believes.’ He said: ‘You were just playing something at the piano. Is that new? That’s what I want to work on first.’ He had already come up with the song’s hook line — She had a place in his life — before he’d got through the door.”

Loggins released his own version of the song on his 1978 album Nightwatch, which revealed a jazzier, slightly more experimental take. The Doobie Brothers' version, however, went on to win Grammys for Song and Record of the Year.

The flip-flops' design is what makes them unique. The outer material is nylon, while the “lightweight” sole is made of thermoplastic rubber. The thong has a “cute” crisscross design, with an adjustable hook and loop closure on the strap. The heel is 30 millimeters, adding height while including “arch support.”

“These are the most comfortable flip-flops I have ever worn,” one reviewer said. “It feels like you are walking on air.”

These flip-flops are easy to wear because they’re “very well made” and “supportive,” according to customers. If you’re going exploring in a new city or heading downtown and planning to walk all day, consider picking up these “durable” and “comfortable” sandals for summer.

This 107-Year-Old Airport Is Closing Its Runways Forever

Thu, 03/26/2026 - 5:10am

After more than 100 years of operation and nearly five decades of neighborhood disputes, the sun is finally setting on one of Southern California's most storied landing strips.

The City of Santa Monica has officially confirmed that the Santa Monica Airport will close its doors forever on December 31, 2028. But it's not just shutdown story; it’s the beginning of a massive 227-acre "green" transformation that aims to turn asphalt into an urban oasis.

The move marks the culmination of a 50-year battle between the city and local residents who have long fought to shutter the facility. While the airport assisted in the community development and housing boom of the 1920s, its relationship with its neighbors soured as the suburbs expanded.

By the 1990s, the tension reached a breaking point as residents sued over “adverse health impacts and nuisance” from the airport. A 2017 settlement with the Federal Aviation Administration finally paved the way for the 2028 closure, ensuring the land would be returned to the public.

Last week, the project hit a major milestone when the city received a $499,149 grant from the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District. This funding will kickstart the design process for the first 20 acres of what is being called the Santa Monica Airport Conversion Project.

The vision for the space is ambitious, centering on five guiding principles approved by the City Council: “start with nature, inspire wonder, balance economics, amplify versatility and celebrate place,” according to reporting by People.

Instead of new housing or commercial high-rises, the 2014 resident-led vote ensured the land would be preserved for parks and open spaces. The current framework proposes eight interconnected districts, each with its own unique identity, including areas dedicated to “immersive nature, active sports, arts & culture, the meadow and the heart.”

It’s a massive undertaking that has already seen 87 public meetings and over 12,000 survey responses from a community eager to see the landing strips replaced with greenery. For a city that has been "whining" about the noise since the 1950s, the 2028 closure represents a hard-won victory for local quiet and a major win for Southern California’s park system.

1976 No. 5 Soft Rock Classic Was So Good It Became a TV Network’s Theme Song Months Later

Thu, 03/26/2026 - 5:08am

In 1976, pop rock band Orleans had a top hit with the song “Still the One.” The soft rock classic peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 on Oct. 23, 1976, with a total run of 18 weeks on the music chart.

Written by married couple Johanna and John Hall, “Still the One” appeared on Orleans' fourth studio album, Waking and Dreaming. The song’s upbeat message about a long-term relationship came after the Halls’ neighbor suggested he write a song about people staying together instead of breaking up.

“So Johanna wrote… on the back of an envelope — the entire lyric,” John recalled in an interview with Spotlight Central. “And I looked at it, and I went, ‘I hear it.’ And then I got my guitar and I sat down and I wrote the music in about ten minutes.”

“I mean, sometimes it’s a gift,” he added of the songwriting process. “It comes to you almost of a piece, where you don’t have to put one piece together with the other over a long period of time to make the song. It just comes like a vision, and that’s what happened, I guess, with that song.”

A TV slogan

Just a few months after “Still the One” became a Top 5 hit, television network ABC requested to use the song in a promotional campaign for their upcoming TV season.

ABC's “Still the One” promos featured various cover versions of the Orleans hit performed by studio singers. The ad campaign included throwback footage from past ABC series' Father Knows Best, Batman, The Flying Nun, Room 222, Mod Squad, McHale’s Navy, The Partridge Family, and more as the network celebrated new shows such as Laverne & Shirley and Three’s Company for the 1977-1978 TV season. The song was also used to promote ABC’s 1979-80 TV season.

In a post on Orleans’ official website, founding vocalist and guitarist Larry Hoppen looked back on the timeline for “Still the One” to become a TV network theme.

“Shortly after New Year’s Day [1977], the ABC TV Network began running a promo campaign using ‘Still The One’ as their theme song,” he shared. “I personally was surprised at how little time had passed between the song being at the top of the charts and the beginning of the ABC campaign, but of course, what’s not to like about that? Having any song in front of millions of people every day is great promotion, even though we may not be the ones singing that particular version.”

In an interview with Classic Bands, Hoppen hinted that songwriters the Halls received lucrative royalty checks after licensing the song to the TV network. “The use of the song, certainly for two-plus years, cemented the song in the consciousness of the entire American public, which has really been good for us,” he added. “Certainly, you would think it was worth a lot of money.”

Over the past 50 years, “Still the One” has also been used in commercials for Applebee's and Burger King, per The Los Angeles Times, further cementing it as Orleans' most famous song.

The #1 Hair Length a Celebrity Stylist Says Can Make You Look 10 Years Younger

Thu, 03/26/2026 - 5:01am

If there's one thing we've learned from our years of reporting on hair trends, it's that your hairstyle has power. It's no secret that the right haircut can help you feel ready to take on the world. But did you also know that it can also give you a youthful glow? While chatting with celebrity hairstylist Jennifer Korab recently, Parade asked the pro to dish on the number-one hair length that can make you look 10 years younger, and she happily obliged.

Throughout her career, Korab has worked with a number of celebrities and influencers, including Denise Bidot, Danielle Carolan, Elyse Myers and more. In addition to her work as a hairstylist, Korab is also a colorist, educator and the founder of Renaissance Salon & Spa.

Korab has seen the impact that a perfectly shaped haircut can have on a woman's confidence, and she's more than willing to share some insider tricks of the trade. Below, she's breaking down which haircuts will make you look younger, and the styles to steer clear of if a more youthful appearance is your goal.

Can Hair Length Impact How Young You Look?

Remember how wearing a full face of makeup when you were younger made you look older than you really were? Hair is similar to makeup in that respect since the right style can impact how young you appear.

"Hair that frames the face with soft layers or movement lifts features, adds volume and creates a more youthful appearance," Korab tells Parade.

The #1 Hair Length To Look 10 Years Younger, According to a Celebrity Stylist

The fountain of youth may not exist, but some hairstyles can definitely flatter your features and help you look more youthful in the process.

Korab says a medium-length bob or lob (aka long bob), like the one Mandy Moore is seen sporting here, is the ideal style if you want to look 10 years younger.

"It’s long enough to style but short enough to avoid heaviness and frames the face nicely," she explains.

4 Other Hair Lengths That Can Make You Look Younger

Hairstylists should be able to suggest which styles will be most flattering on you, but if you want to show up with a request already in mind, Korab suggests asking for one of these hair lengths that can make you look younger.

1. Chin-Length Bob

Edward Berthelot/Getty Images

Aside from being incredibly chic, this style is also practical.

"A chin-length bob lifts the face and highlights cheekbones," Korab explains.

2. Collarbone-Length Lob

A collarbone-length lob can "soften features," according to Korab.

"It allows versatility for styling and looks great with waves or straight," she says.

3. A Long-Layered Cut

Monica Schipper/Getty Images

If you're not ready to give up extra length just yet, Korab says you can still rock a long-layered cut that's "shoulder-length or a bit past."

"It really adds movement and keeps hair from looking flat," she says.

4. An Angled Bob

George Pimentel/WireImage

The key to rocking this insanely stylish haircut like Victoria Beckham? Ensuring that hair is "shorter in the back and longer in the front," according to Korab.

"This can frame the face nicely for a youthful look," she says.

3 Hair Lengths That Can Age You

Knowing what to avoid can be equally as helpful as understanding what to ask for when you sit down in your hairstylist's chair. With this in mind, Korab also shared three styles she recommends steering clear of since they have a tendency of aging women.

1. Extra Long Hair

"Extra-long and heavy hair can drag the face down," Korab says.

Instead, the stylist recommends seeking out "face-framing pieces."

2. One-Length Haircuts

"One-length haircuts can feel flat or heavy," Korab explains.

As an alternate option, the stylist suggests incorporating layers into your look to "add character and soften features."

3. A Blunt Shoulder-Length Chttps://parade.com/living/stacked-bob-haircutsut

There's one key difference between an angled bob and this blunt, shoulder-length cut: layers.

"No layers can make someone look older because it doesn't shape the face and could make features appear less lifted," Korab explains.

4 Core Traits of People Born on the 28th, Per Numerology

Thu, 03/26/2026 - 4:32am

Being born on the 28th means so much more than you think. Numerologists agree that all birth dates correlate with one to three numerological energies that make up your personality traits, challenges, and more. If you’re born on the 28th, this means you work with the combined energies of 2, 8, and 1. Having this birth date suggests that you’re a hardworking, ambitious person who strives for success in all areas of your life. You know you can succeed on your own, but your birth date says working with others is part of your destiny. Read on to discover the numerological significance of 28, challenges to watch for, and four core personality traits that define you.

The Numerological Significance of Number 28

How can you find the numerological significance of 28? It’s simpler than you think: Start by breaking down 28 into single-digit numbers, which would be 2 and 8. Next, add them together to get 10. However, 10 is a double-digit number, so you’ll have to break it down to 1 and 0, then add 1 and 0 together to get 1. Now that the original number has been reduced a few times, one can concur that 28 is made of the combined energies of 2, 8, and 1.

2 is a partner-focused number, so this is sensitive and emotionally aware. 8 represents success and material wealth that’s gained through discipline. 1 is independent, so it comes across as free-spirited and adventurous. As these three numbers work together, they create the assertive yet harmonious vibration of 28. People who embody 28’s energy are typically self-directed, self-led individuals who seek balance and order. They’re destined for accomplishment and success, but not without the help of others.

People who align with 28’s energy also work with its planetary ruler, the sun. According to astrology, the sun represents identity, vitality, and willpower. Embracing solar energy means being self-assured. These individuals have faith in their skills, talents, and creativity. The sun’s power is complemented by Tiger’s Eye, since this crystal enhances determination, focus, and bravery.

Challenges to Watch For

People born on the 28th will find that their biggest challenge is working with others. Their birth date speaks to being self-sufficient, so they may feel like they don’t need anyone’s help, advice, or input. Maybe they don’t. However, they’ll eventually learn that allowing others to partake in their journeys and endeavors could be better than doing it alone. Their biggest issue will be relinquishing some control. Working with a companion or team requires compromise. They cannot call all the shots or assume they know everything. Trusting their partner will take some time, especially if past-partners weren’t as helpful. But working with and having faith in others will help them reach greater levels of success.

Core Personality Traits of Those Born on the 28th1. Independent, But Relationship-Oriented

Those born on the 28th can fly solo or work as a team. No matter the situation, they know how to take charge to handle matters on their own, or to be the leader everyone needs. These individuals don’t necessarily need a team or companion to be successful given their self-sufficiency. But that doesn’t mean they don’t enjoy working alongside their partner. They feel just as confident and complete regardless of their relationship status, making them mentally and emotionally resilient individuals.

    2. Self-Assured & Courageous

Can anyone measure up to someone born on the 28th? Having this birth date means having unwavering confidence and bravery. They don’t crumble when there’s a problem, argument, or obstacle. No matter what’s going on, they always rise to the occasion. Individuals with this birth date are determined to overcome anything by trusting their intuition, intellect, and work ethic. It might not be easy, but they will get through any dilemma and accomplish any goal they put their mind to.

      3. Rich in Spirit

People born on the 28th are destined for a well-rounded, beautiful life. Some individuals with this birth date will find insurmountable financial and professional success throughout their lives. They’re ability to take charge makes them professional and financial pioneers. Other individuals with this birth date might find richness and wealth through different means. They might be rich in love if they’re surrounded by a wonderful community, or rich in experience thanks to their adventures. Regardless, being born on the 28th guarantees some kind of wealth.

        4. Harmonious & Reciprocal

Is there anyone more generous than someone born on the 28th? People with this birth date are blessed throughout their life. They may find fortune in love, community, professional opportunities, money, and so much more. Some may hoard their wealth, but not these people. They love sharing what they have with others, from sharing a simple meal to providing life-changing assistance. Being generous allows them to build peaceful, mutually beneficial relationships. After all, they know what goes around comes around.

Two of Las Vegas' Most Popular Hotels Are Going All-Inclusive

          Thu, 03/26/2026 - 4:10am

If you’ve ever checked out of a Las Vegas hotel only to be hit with a stack of "surprise" charges—from resort fees to that $20 airport-priced turkey sandwich—MGM Resorts has a new solution that might just change how you play the Strip. In a first-of-its-kind move for the destination, MGM has officially launched an all-inclusive vacation experience at two of its most iconic properties: Luxor and Excalibur.

Starting today, travelers can book a bundled package that finally brings the "set it and forget it" mentality of a Caribbean resort to the Neon Capital of the World. The offer starts at $330 plus tax for a two-night stay for two guests, effectively stripping away the guesswork of a Vegas budget.

"Las Vegas has long been known for its diverse collection of unforgettable experiences, and this new option combines many of them together in a fresh, compelling way," said Mike Neubecker, President & COO of MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, New York-New York, Luxor, and Excalibur. "By bundling hotel, dining, entertainment and parking into a single upfront price, we’re offering guests a convenient, turn-key way to explore our hotels and make new memories without any hassle or surprises."

          What’s Actually Included?

This isn’t just a room-and-board deal. The package is surprisingly robust, covering a two-night stay at either the pyramid-shaped Luxor or the castle-themed Excalibur, with all resort fees already baked into the price. On the dining front, guests receive six meal vouchers per person, redeemable at a variety of spots across the "South Strip" corridor. You can grab a casual bite at Public House, hit the buffet at Excalibur, or even head over to Tom’s Watch Bar at New York-New York or Noodle Shop at Mandalay Bay. Each meal even comes with a select beer or wine, which—as any Vegas regular knows—is a massive value-add on its own.

The "all-in" spirit extends to the famous Vegas entertainment scene as well. Each bundle includes two tickets to one of MGM’s signature shows, with options ranging from the legendary Blue Man Group and the prop-comedy of Carrot Top to the high-energy Thunder from Down Under. To top off the adrenaline, guests also get two rides on The Big Apple Coaster at New York-New York, which hits speeds of 67 mph over the Strip.

A Luxury Chocolatier Is Selling What Might Be the Most Indulgent Easter Egg Yet

          Thu, 03/26/2026 - 4:05am

When it comes to seasonal candy, Easter really shows off. Halloween gives us fun-size versions of our favorite bars (cute, but blink and they're gone), and the winter holidays lean into festive shapes—trees, Santas, snowmen—all that. But Easter? Easter goes big. Like, really big. This is the season where chocolate isn't just a treat, it's an event.

These once-a-year finds with their pastel packaging feel a little nostalgic and indulgent at the same time. And sure, some classics like Cadbury Mini Eggs seem to pop up earlier and earlier every year (not complaining), but there's still something special about the full Easter candy moment.

Everything Ostrich Egg, $150 at Hotel Chocolat

          Hotel Chocolat

Which is why luxury chocolatiers really get to shine right about now. This is their time to lean all the way in, go a little extra, and remind us that chocolate can be just as much about presentation and experience as it is about taste. Just take a peek at Hotel Chocolat and its absolutely jaw-dropping Everything Ostrich Egg. Because if there's ever a time to go big with your chocolate, it's Easter.

This giant chocolate egg weighs 2.2 pounds and is filled with even more chocolates, split between two halves. One half of the egg is a blend of milk chocolate, cookie crunch and puffed rice. The opposite side is also milk chocolate with crisp feuilletine, which is basically super-thin wafers broken into tiny shards. Either way, you're getting some nice texture with that silky cocoa confection.

          What People Are Saying

At $150 a pop, the Hotel Chocolate Everything Ostrich Egg is definitely a splurge. But the chocolate is absolutely smooth, creamy and delicious. And you don't just have to take my word for it because the reviews on this showstopper are stellar.

"A bit pricey but worth it," says a customer on Hotel Chocolat's website. "The chocolate is divine. The presentation and tin are lovely. I got this for my teenaged son who is too old for an Easter basket but not too old for phenomenal chocolate. Thank you."

If you're looking for something a little more petite, Hotel Chocolat's Patisserie Extra-Thick Easter Egg is $45 and, frankly, just as decadent.
