1978 Timeless Classic Was a No. 1 Hit Song 48 Years Ago Today
March 26, 1978, marked a milestone in country music history when Crystal Gayle’s soulful ballad, “Ready for the Times to Get Better,” climbed to the top of the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles chart.
Written by Allen Reynolds, the track became Gayle’s fourth number-one hit, solidifying her place as one of the era’s leading country-pop voices. Nearly five decades later, the song remains a timeless favorite, cherished by fans around the world.
Crystal Gayle, born Brenda Gail Webb on Jan. 9, 1951, in Paintsville, Kentucky, was already gaining traction in the music industry when “Ready for the Times to Get Better” was released as a single in January 1978.
The song first appeared on her 1976 album Crystal and quickly became a signature piece in her repertoire.
The song dominated the charts, spending ten weeks on the U.S. Hot Country Songs chart and reaching number three on the U.S. Adult Contemporary chart. It also achieved notable success in Canada, topping the RPM Country Tracks chart and peaking at number four on the Adult Contemporary charts. Its appeal even crossed over to pop radio, marking a modest but significant entry on both U.S. and Canadian pop charts.
The timeless nature of Gayle’s 1978 hit is evident in the many artists who have covered the song. Marshall Chapman included it on her 1977 album Me, I'm Feelin’ Free, while Joe Sun’s 1980 rendition reached number 43 on the U.S. Hot Country Songs chart.
Internationally, Agnes Chan adapted it into Cantonese as “Mayflower” in 1980. More recently, artists like Cody Jinks and Billy Strings have kept the song alive for contemporary audiences. The Million Dollar Band even performed it on an episode of the popular TV show Hee Haw.
Gayle’s original recording has also appeared in pop culture, most notably in the Roadshow edition of Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight. While it wasn’t included on the soundtrack album, its presence in the film underscores the song’s lasting emotional resonance.
At 75, Crystal Gayle remains a beloved figure in country music, though recent health challenges have slowed her public appearances.
In January 2026, she revealed to People that a meniscus injury prevented her from performing at the Your Roots Are Showing conference in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
“These things happen and you don’t want it to,” she said. “I’ve never had anything like this … mentally, you’re going through a ‘why me?’”
Despite this setback, Gayle continues to perform across the U.S., with 2026 tour dates in Nevada, Texas and Florida.
Moreover, Gayle remains active in promoting her music, contributing new tracks to multi-artist albums and keeping her extensive catalog accessible to new generations.
As fans celebrate the 48th anniversary of this country classic, it’s clear that Crystal Gayle’s music remains timeless, ready to lift spirits “for the times to get better,” now and always.

Walker Edison Modern Acacia Modular Patio Sofa Set, $100 (was $209) at Walmart Shop at WalmartEach chair is 24 inches wide, 24 inches long, and just over 30 inches high, and the ottoman is roughly 23 inches wide, 23 inches long, and 19 inches high. You can arrange the pieces in an L-shape, with the chairs side by side to form a sofa, put all three sections in a straight line, or use them individually to make the most of your space. The overall footprint is compact, measuring no longer than 72 inches across when all three pieces are lined up side-by-side, so it provides generous seating without dominating your space, no matter how you set it up.
Both chairs and the ottoman are topped with 3-inch-thick cushions covered in UV-resistant fabric that holds up well outdoors. The solid acacia wood frame is also naturally weather-resistant. Though assembly is required, several reviewers said it's "easy to put together," taking under an hour to complete with all the necessary tools and instructions provided.

More than her jaw-dropping ensemble and stunning arm candy, one gesture stole the spotlight on social media.
On Thursday, the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles came alive with dazzling stars from A-listers, music royalty and rising artists, lighting up the star-studded evening.
Hosted by rapper and actor Ludacris, the iHeartRadio Music Awards turned into a celebration of the biggest names and up-and-coming stars in the entertainment industry.
Beyond the recognitions and awards that fans eagerly anticipate, it was the electrifying performances that truly stole the show.

On Opening Day, Tom Hanks' New Baseball Movie is Being Shopped in Hollywood
The nicest guy in Hollywood may have won his Oscars for other movies, but one of Tom Hanks' most scene-stealing roles dates back to 1992 with A League of Their Own.
And now — nearly 35 years later — Hanks, 69, is returning to sports genre of cinema with yet another baseball project that's currently experiencing a bidding war in Hollywood, media sources including Deadline report.
What makes the film package so "hot" (as they say in the biz) is that the A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood star is reteaming with Marielle Heller — the director of his acclaimed Mister Rogers film released in 2019.
Based on a short story by Pulitzer Prize finalist Dave Eggers, The Comebacker was written as a feature by Heller, 46, and is called "a love letter to baseball," Deadline noted on Thursday, March 26 (which happens to be Opening Day for certain Major League Baseball teams). Hanks plays the pitching coach of a major league pitcher whose life is upended when he's hit in the head by a line drive on the mound. His life then changes in all kinds of ways...
Three studios are reportedly vying for the project, but Variety says Sony Pictures is in pole position to win the film thanks to an attractive offer and its history — since it was Sony that released Hanks and Hellers' A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.
Variety also noted that Grammy-winner Bad Bunny and Oscar-nominee Colman Domingo are apparently eyeing roles in the project, though their hypothetical roles remain unclear.
And when it comes to Hanks, fans are thrilled to see him continue to star in buzzy movies. It's hard to believe that earlier this month marked 42 years since his box-office hit Splash was released in theaters, for example. Directed by Ron Howard, the romantic comedy stars Daryl Hannah as a mermaid named Madison, who reunites and falls in love with Allen Bauer (Hanks), whom she saved from drowning 20 years earlier.

In a post on Instagram, Anchondo shared behind-the-scenes moments along with a tribute to his time on the show.

He continued, “Now, I know she is looking down and proud of me for all the work I’ve done in the past year on one of the best shows ever created. She is proud of me for showing up every day and leading with kindness and respect, for fighting through my insecurities and anxiety, and for letting my heart shine through a character that had questionable intentions 😈❤️”
Beyond his personal journey, Anchondo highlighted the significance of his presence in Port Charles, “I’m also proud of myself for doing the work, for representing the LGBTQI and Latino community, and for constantly recognizing the magic that every single person on the show creates,” he wrote.
Anchondo also addressed fans’ reaction to his character’s exit. “I know fans are sad (believe me I’m still grieving) but I’m just one small piece in a much bigger picture. I hope I made you proud,” he wrote, adding, “To my queer fans, don’t be discouraged, we will keep spreading our love and fighting for that happy ending.”
He also thanked those behind the scenes, including ABC and Disney, as well as casting director Mark Teschner and executive producer Frank Valentini.

Thank you to the amazing cast especially Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) for your wisdom and kindness Carlo Rota (Jenz Sidwell) for your support, guidance and friendship, and of course to my amazing friend Van Hansis (Lucas Jones) for holding my hand in more ways than one- you made it easy to fall in love with you.”
He added, “That’s a wrap on Marco! I hope everyone loved him as much as I did. We went out with a bang 🤩”

Noah Wyle's Wife Sara Joins Him on 'The Pitt' Next Week
It's a family affair on next week's episode of The Pitt!
Noah Wyle is turning his hit medical drama into the family business, with his wife, Sara Wyle, set to guest star on Episode 13 of the HBO Max series' second season.
Nothing is yet known about Sara's character's story arc beyond the fact that she'll be playing an ER patient named Ashley Davis, but an exclusive sneak peek shared by TVLine shows her hooked up to a cardiac monitor, which helps the doctors check for any irregularities in her heart's rate and rhythm. There are countless reasons a person could need this kind of assessment, so it's impossible to guess about her condition.
Who Is Sara Wyle?Sara Wyle has been married to The Pitt star and executive producer Noah Wyle since June 7, 2014, but she's also done a little bit of acting before.
What Is Sara Wyle Known For?While Sara is not an actress by trade, she has appeared in episodes of Nip/Tuck and Californication, along with a few other projects. Her hubby even directed her in her last show before The Pitt, an episode of Leverage: Redemption. She also stepped out in support of members of SAG-AFTRA during the actors' strike of 2023.
Beyond her acting projects, she also describes herself as a singer and a "pancake flipper" on her social media.
Do Noah and Sara Wyle Have Kids? The couple welcomed a daughter named Frances in 2015, but they keep her mostly out of the limelight. In fact, they themselves rarely offer glimpses into their private lives, though Sara often accompanies Noah on the red carpet.
Noah also shares daughter Auden, 20, and son Owen, 23, with his ex-wife, Tracy Warbin.
Who Does Sara Wyle Play on 'The Pitt'?Sara Wyle has been cast as Ashley Davis, a patient in the emergency room at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. There aren't yet any details about her role beyond that, and unfortunately, the trailer for the episode in question failed to reveal anything at all about Sara's time on set.

Who Plays Mr. Cohen on 'The Pitt?' Where You Recognize This Familiar Actor From
Captain Cragen, what are you doing here!?
Another head-scratchingly familiar guest star made his debut on The Pitt this week, portraying Mr. Eddie Cohen, the elderly husband of one of the latest patients in the emergency room at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center.
Chances are, you immediately locked onto Dann Florek's face when his character accompanied his wife's stretcher as she was guided into her hospital room by the EMTs who transported her, who reported she was involved in a "very low speed" accident in which she was struck by a slow-moving vehicle and fell to the ground, bruising her hip.
He quickly became a patient too after staff realized he was behind the wheel of the vehicle, with the driver swearing the car "wasn't even moving" and his wife certain he had backed into her. Doctors uncovered an unexpected degradation to his baseline status, thanks to a combination of medications he was prescribed that caused him to lose his balance, which the script implies may have caused him to not realize the car was moving.
Dann Florek on the set of 'Law & Order: SVU.' What Is Dann Florek Known For?Most notably, Florek portrays Captain Donald 'Don' Cragen in the Law & Order universe, first appearing on the flagship series beginning in 1990, and later swinging by for a few episodes of Law & Order: Organized Crime. He's also been featured on hundreds of episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
You may also know his face from one of his many single-episode appearances on shows like The Equalizer, Matlock, 21 Jump Street, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch. He enjoyed a three-episode arc on Roseanne, and almost two dozen episodes of L.A. Law in the ‘90s.
Florek's arc emotionally depicted the impacts of aging and healthcare on a person's independence, as he fought to remain at home with his wife despite concerns from his daughter and providers that it may not be safe for them to continue living on their own.
Who Else Is Guest-Starring on 'The Pitt'?Next up, star Noah Wyle's wife Sara Wyle makes an appearance, set to debut on the popular series in the next episode as another of the season's many patients. Unfortunately, little is known about her role yet, but you can expect to see her on your screens in Season 2, Episode 13.
In the same episode, The West Wing's Mary McCormack will appear as neurosurgeon Dr. Linda Conley, while Cosby Show alum Geoffrey Owens is said to be appearing soon as a cardiothoracic surgeon.
Jeff Kober also marked a big guest spot, appearing as Dr. Robby's friend Duke across several episodes this season, and fans were gobsmacked to see Glee alum Max Adler as a friend of Nurse Emma's attacker.

Trader Joe's Just Revived a Beloved Pastry Item After Nearly a Decade—and Fans Are Rushing to Try It
Trader Joe's has a way of bringing back fan-favorite items when you least expect it—and this time, it's a pastry that some shoppers haven't seen in years. If you've ever spotted cannelés at a bakery (or tried making them yourself), you already know they're not exactly easy to come by, which makes this freezer find feel like a bit of a steal, especially at $5.49 per box.
Now, after nearly a decade, Trader Joe's has brought them back—and shoppers are already making room in their carts. Between the nostalgic factor and the fact that these are typically a pain to make from scratch, it's no surprise people are eager to grab a box (or a few) before they disappear again.

Trader Joe's Cannelés Are Back—Here's What to KnowTrader Joe's Cannelés are a French-style pastry that originated in Bordeaux, traditionally baked in copper molds lined with beeswax. The result is a very specific texture: a deeply caramelized, slightly chewy outer shell with a soft, custardy center.
The version now back in Trader Joe's freezers sticks pretty close to that idea, even with a more modern production method. Instead of copper molds, they're made using custom silicone molds, which helps streamline the process while still delivering that signature contrast between crisp edges and a tender interior.
Classic cannelés tend to have a strong rum-forward profile, but Trader Joe's pulls that back a bit, letting the vanilla come through more clearly. Each box comes with several small pastries, designed to be warmed in the oven for about 10 to 12 minutes before serving.

How to Serve and Enjoy ThemOne of the biggest selling points here is convenience. Cannelés are known for being tricky to make at home. Getting that perfectly caramelized crust without overbaking the inside takes some practice, so having a ready-to-heat version makes them a lot more approachable.
Trader Joe's recommends popping them in a 350°F oven straight from the freezer, then letting them cool slightly before eating. That quick bake helps bring back the texture, especially the contrast between the crisp exterior and soft center.
From there, you can keep things simple or dress them up a bit. They pair well with coffee or tea, making them an easy option for a low-effort dessert or a slightly upgraded breakfast. Some shoppers have even suggested adding spreads or toppings like fruit preserves for extra flavor, but they're just as easy to enjoy on their own.

What Shoppers Are Saying View this post on InstagramOn Instagram, some shoppers were immediately thrilled to see them back, especially those who remember the original version. A few comments called it a favorite dessert that's usually hard to find, while others mentioned stocking up before they inevitably disappear again.
At the same time, there's been some feedback on size and texture. Several people pointed out that the pastries are on the smaller side, and a few noted that the outer layer can be a bit thicker than expected if they're overbaked. Still, plenty of shoppers described them as rich, buttery and worth trying, especially when warmed up properly.
Overall, this limited-time find will most likely sell out quickly. If you're curious or already a fan, it might be worth grabbing a box while they're still in stores.

Neil Patrick Harris’ Twins Steal the Spotlight in Rare Family Photos
Neil Patrick Harris had fans swooning over his latest post.
The How I Met Your Mother star proved that time flies so fast after showing a glimpse of his family’s recent vacation.
The award-winning actor took a break from the Hollywood spotlight and embarked on an Asian adventure with his husband, David Burtka and their 15-year-old twins Harper Grace and Gideon Scott.
Neil Patrick Harris’ Instagram post shared the highlights of their trip, including visits to cultural landmarks like the famous reclining Buddha at Wat Po, the Emerald Buddha, exploring Thai cuisine and enjoying a date night at a drag show.
“Thailand Spring Break, Pt. 1: Bangkok. Our first time in Thailand, too many singular experiences to name them all,” he captioned the post, along with the summary of activities that they did.
However, amid the highlights, fans noticed subtle details on the What’s in the Box? host’s recent post.
View this post on InstagramBeyond the warm welcome of Thai fans and the flood of must-visit recommendations, fans were quick to notice how much the twins have grown.
“Gosh, those babies are already teenagers,” one wrote.
“Gosh, your kids have grown up so fast! Enjoy Thailand, kaa,” a commenter added.
Fans remain in awe at how much they have changed.
“My goodness! How is it possible Gideon and Harper are looking soooooo grown-up?!?! Well done, Dads!!!” a follower remarked.
The same goes for another who said, “Lovely family! The twins are all grown up!
“Oh my! Your kids are teenagers now! Enjoy Thailand!” a commenter echoed.
Harris and Burtka welcomed their fraternal twins on October 12, 2010 via surrogate.
The Smurfs star announced the happy news on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “On 10/12, Gideon Scott and Harper Grace entered the Burtka-Harris fold. All of us are happy, healthy, tired and a little pukey."

Though their family isn’t traditional, Neil Patrick Harris believes it’s essential for the kids to have a clear and simple understanding of their family roles.
“I think when our kids got to the age when they were having reasonable conversations where they’re asking lots of ‘why’ questions, then it seemed [important] to be able to have a real clear-cut [identity] of who their daddy is — that he’s my husband, it was easier than partner or boyfriend,” he told The View in 2014 as cited by PEOPLE.
Beyond their family vacation trips, the twins have made cameo appearances in various projects, notably A Series of Unfortunate Events, in which Harris portrays the menacing Count Olaf.

Why Network Pulled the Plug on 'Everybody Loves Raymond' Spinoff
Everybody Loves Raymond was one of the top sitcoms of the 1990s. Starring Ray Romano as the titular character, the CBS series ran for nine seasons before coming to an end in 2005.
Following the series finale, creator Phil Rosenthal pushed for a spinoff series focusing on Raymond's older brother Robert (played by Brad Garrett) and his wife, Amy (played by Rosenthal's real-life wife, Monica Horan).
"They were established on the show," Rosenthal said during a Tuesday, March 24, episode of Dinner’s on Me with Jesse Tyler Ferguson. "And not only that, but her family was established on the show."
Fred Willard, Georgia Engel, and Chris Elliott played Amy's dad, mom, and brother, respectively, for 30 episodes of the series.
"You know why they said they wouldn't give us more than a pilot?” Rosenthal continued. "Everyone was over 40. They said the business changed during the nine years of Raymond."
Romano, Garrett, and Horan reunited with co-stars Patricia Heaton, Madylin Sweeten, and Sullivan Sweeten in November 2025 to celebrate the show's 30th anniversary.
"I tried for a 20 year reunion and I tried for a 25 year reunion, but I can only say that the newest leadership at CBS was into it, and so that's why we're here today," Rosenthal told People at the time.
Prince William Praises Lindsey Vonn's 'Resilience' in Personal Letter After Her Crash
Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn shared details of the kind letter Prince William sent after her crash during the Milano Cortina Winter Games in February.
Vonn, 41, suffered a complex tibia fracture, a broken right ankle, and severe compartment syndrome, an emergency condition where built-up pressure prevents blood flow and damages nerves and muscles, after crashing 13 seconds into her run during the women’s downhill race on February 8. She required emergency surgery to prevent amputation of her left leg.

“I was watching your recent accident in Cortina and wanted to write to send you my very best wishes,” William wrote to Vonn in a typed letter dated February 16, a photo of which was shown on Vanity Fair’s Instagram page.
“As you have often said, in downhill skiing, there are just a few inches that can determine the difference between a clean run and a serious crash,” William's note continued. “The way you wrote about stepping into the start gate with courage and no regrets says so much about your resilience, and is one of the many reasons why you have been an inspiration to so many people throughout your illustrious career.”
William sent Vonn his “very best wishes” in handwritten blue ink on the bottom of the page.
Vonn was touched by the personal note and said she “offered to ski with him and his family if they ever want to,” noting it would still be a while before she would be heading down the slopes.

Many other athletes and celebrities rallied to support Vonn after her tragic accident, and she “leans” on the kind words to get through the “tough days.”
“My life changed from one extreme to the other in 13 seconds,” Vonn said. “I went from being in the best shape of my life with great chances of winning an Olympic medal to, you know, in a hospital bed in a wheelchair. My support system was everything, and I feel so lucky to have so many people who really cared about me.”
As for William, he and wife Kate Middleton are both passionate about sports and are known to take private ski trips to the French Alps with their three kids, George, 12, Charlotte, 10, and Louis, 7.

Skiing has been a longtime family tradition for the British royals. Their winter getaways were so special, Prince Harry recalled his “wonderful memories” of the slopes with his brother and mother, Princess Diana, in his 2023 memoir, Spare. He even recalled talking “in all seriousness” about working at the ski resort in Austria “where Mummy used to take us.”
Hilary Duff Reveals the Unexpected Way She Relates to Lizzie McGuire
One of Hilary Duff's most iconic roles is middle school student, Lizzie McGuire, in the Disney Channel series of the same name, which had a two-season run until 2004.
In the March 26 episode of Hot Ones, hosted by Sean Evans, Duff shared that she identified with Lizzie while filming the show and the 2003 film, The Lizzie McGuire Movie, as a young teenager. During the interview, Evans asked if there were any "kind of normal kid milestones that you experienced vicariously through your character" during the production of Lizzie McGuire. Duff replied, "Bra shopping," in reference to a season 1 episode, wherein Lizzie loudly tells her mother, Jo (Hallie Todd), she wants a bra in a department store.
Duff then said that she believes "a lot of themes" from the Disney Channel series "were actually happening in [her] life as well."
"Social dynamics and stuff within my friend groups outside of work," explained Duff during the Hot Ones interview.
The 38-year-old then said she appreciates when fans tell her they related to Lizzie.
"It's so nice to hear people's experience with the show or like how it helped them or formed them, whether it be like her style or not quite fitting in anywhere. And I also kind of resonate with that. I feel like a very big dork dressed in a cool girl's outfit a lot of the time," said the "So Yesterday" singer.
Duff discussed filming the Lizzie McGuire bra shopping scene during a March 2026 interview withHarper's Bazaar. She explained that she was around "13 years old" when she filmed the moment and felt "so embarrassed" about saying Lizzie's line, "I want a bra," while "in front of [her] entire crew."
"I had to say it loud and over and over and over again. And now I love it and it's so sweet," said the mother of four while speaking to the publication.
Iconic ’80s Actor Back on Set After Being Evicted for Over $59K in Unpaid Rent
The legendary ‘80s actor has returned to work following a turbulent couple of months that saw him lose his Los Angeles home amid mounting financial and legal troubles.
Rourke's rep Kimberly Hines confirmed to TMZ on Thursday, March 26 that the actor is currently in Utah filming Sol Hershowitz's Guide to Extraterrestrial Life, where he's landed one of the lead roles. He'll be playing a paranoid, ex-military conspiracist who claims to have stolen alien technology from the government.
Hines, who is also an executive producer on the project, says she's thrilled to have him back on set with production now underway. Onset photos obtained from the outlet show Rourke sitting through full hair and makeup, eyes closed and completely focused.
The return to work comes after a very public and difficult few months. A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge entered a judgment on March 9 in favor of Rourke's landlord in an unlawful detainer case, officially ruling him evicted from his Drexel Avenue home. The judgment was entered by default, and as a result the actor's rental agreement was canceled and his lease forfeited. Court documents had previously alleged he owed a whopping $59,100 in back rent, with a three-day pay-or-vacate notice served back in December.

By January, Rourke was photographed moving belongings out of the property. When a GoFundMe appeared online around the same time, he was quick to shut it down. "I wouldn't ask for no f**king charity. I'd rather stick a gun up my a** and pull the trigger," he said in an Instagram video. The home itself was reported to be in serious disrepair, with black mold, no running water, rodents, and water damage that left much of his furniture unsalvageable.
Still, something of a silver lining emerged from the chaos. The renewed public attention reportedly brought a wave of new opportunities, with Hines noting that "people are emailing him movie offers now, which is great because nobody's been calling him for a long time." And it looks like Hollywood followed through.

Amanda Peet and Hoda Kotb Bond Over Surviving Breast Cancer in New Interview
Amanda Peet and Hoda Kotb are opening up about the reality of being diagnosed with breast cancer.
Peet and Kotb, alongside Craig Melvin, not only discussed Peet's latest projects, Fantasy Life and YourFriends & Neighbors, but also their shared experiences with breast cancer.
"You know, I didn't really have an agenda,” Peet said on Today on Thursday, March 26 of revealing her diagnosis publicly. "Maybe it was a way to just kind of cope and contain what was insanity — this kind of intersection of all of these big life moments."
Peet shared her diagnosis in a personal essay for The New Yorker on Saturday, March 21. Peet wrote about being informed of her stage 1 cancer diagnosis while her parents were in hospice.
Kotb then spoke about her own breast cancer diagnosis back in 2007, sharing with Peet, "When you hear the words 'breast cancer,' and I mean it happened to me a while ago, but I do know the feeling of hearing the words. But now I feel like it's sort of different — you know, that there is a clear path forward." At the time of her diagnosis, Kotb underwent a mastectomy and has been cancer-free ever since.
Peet expressed that she was "extremely lucky," as she was diagnosed with a less aggressive form of the disease. She also said, "And obviously I have great health insurance because of SAG, and my husband and I have a nanny, so there were a lot of people around to take care of me, but not everybody has that. So I've also been giving that a lot of thought."
Peet added that her diagnosis is still "worrisome" as her cancer is lobular which is "understudied."
"So we need more research, and I think that's going to be a critical thing as we go forward," Peet said.
At the end of Peet's segment, Kotb expressed to the actress, "You're such a lovely person. Like, I feel like I want to be friends with you right now while you're talking," to which Peet said, "I want to be friends with you, too."
