James Marsden, 52, and His Model Girlfriend, 28, Look So in Love
James Marsden looks happier than ever with his girlfriend, Frederique Brons, by his side.
The actor, 52, rose to stardom in films like The Notebook and 27 Dresses before scoring meatier roles in Westworld and Dead to Me. Navigating comedy in roles on 30 Rock and Modern Family, he showed he could do almost anything onscreen. More recently, he scored hits with series like Jury Duty and Your Friends and Neighbors. However, it also looks like he's found love in his personal life. Marsden was spotted with his model girlfriend walking hand in hand at the Dior Homme Menswear Spring/Summer 2027 show as part of Paris Fashion Week. Beaming, Brons looked stunning in a soft pinkish-white wrap dress. Marsden kept it casual in beige pants and a patterned top.

Marsden has a unique new colleague: His 25-year-old son, Jack. The duo stars in The Macallan's new âDrink of a Generationâ campaign, which spotlights the whiskey's Sherry Oak 25 and 30 Years Old expressions.
In addition to Jack, Marsden has two other children. A daughter named Mary, 20, with his ex-wife, Lisa Linde, and William, 10, with his ex-girlfriend, Rose Costa, PEOPLE reported.
What's Next for James Marsden?Marsden has a major new gig coming around the bend.
Last month, Variety reported that the actor is set to star in the thriller series Disavowed at Apple TV.
According to the official logline for the show, the series follows âlegendary CIA Case Officer Brad Griffin (Marsden), who is abruptly fired in the middle of a global hunt for an elusive assassin responsible for killing his colleague. Disgraced and outcast from the world of intelligence, all bets are off when Brad decides to go after the 15 million dollar federal bounty on the assassinâs head.â
Seeing as Marsden has a successful track record at Apple with his role as Owen Ashe in Your Friends & Neighbors, it sounds like the studio wants to keep him on.

The Genius Way to Make Strawberry Shortcake 10x Better, According to an Award-Winning Chef
For me, strawberry shortcake conjures up visions of warm summer days, berry picking and the unmistakable nostalgic feeling of a life with minimal responsibilitiesâat least for a little while. Itâs at once a dessert and a state of mind, signifying that summer has officially arrived.
Of course, much like the unpredictability of the season, sometimes strawberry shortcake can be good, and other times...not so much. Whether itâs because the berries werenât fully ripe, the whipped cream didnât hold up or the biscuit became soggy too soon, this is one of those desserts thatâs either a knockout or itâs just meh. The good news? You donât have to just settle for meh anymore.Â
To find out how best to elevate this seasonal treat, we went straight to an expert and consulted David Leite, a three-time James Beard Award-winning food writer, cookbook author and publisher of the award-winning website Leite's Culinaria, for all the ways he makes strawberry shortcake the very best it can be.Â
Read on for his tips, plus the common mistakes to avoid when making this fruit-filled dessert. Once you know how to properly make it and jazz it up, we have a feeling strawberry shortcake will become your signature summertime snack.

How To Make Strawberry Shortcake 10x Better, According to an Award-Winning ChefAccording to Leite, the best way to make strawberry shortcake 10x better is his go-to move: the double stack. This trick elevates the dessert (literally) by adding height and visual interest to the iconic summer staple without requiring much additional effort.
âTo get a towering, dramatically tall biscuit with effortless flaky layers, cut the dough into circles, brush the top side of one biscuit with milk [and] crown with a second before baking,â he tells Parade.Â
Once your biscuits are done, place one on your plate, layer on your fruit and some whipped cream, and then top with the second double-stacked biscuit to create a showstopping masterpiece.

3 Other Chef-Approved Tips for Strawberry ShortcakeThe double stack is a low-effort hack with maximum payoff, but it isnât the only way Leite likes to put his own spin on strawberry shortcake. Here, Leite shares several other ways to upgrade the classic summer staple, and weâre definitely taking notes.Â
1. Try different spices for fun flavorsJohner Images / Getty Images
Instead of keeping things one note and only going sweet, Leite says he likes to incorporate other spices into the mix to give the dessert a more complex and interesting flavor. âI always find the biscuits in the dessert to be bland. Just sugar. No contrast,â he says. âAdding hefty pinches of ground ginger and cinnamon to your dough changes the profile.â
If you want to add an unexpected boost to the berries, he also says he adds a few grinds of Aleppo pepper to the macerated strawberries for a moderately spicy kick.

2. Cut through the sweetness with a splash of vinegarbhofack2 / Getty Images
Leite also suggests amping up your macerating liquid by adding a splash of balsamic vinegar to make things interesting.
âDitch the standard sugar-only maceration. Instead, toss strawberries with a tablespoon or two of good-quality balsamic vinegar and a 1/4 teaspoon of freshly cracked black pepper,â he says. âThe pepper cuts the cloying sweetness, while the balsamic coaxes out a deep, complex syrup.âÂ
Feifei Cui-Paoluzzo / Getty Images
For an added bite, Leite recommends a dose of fresh summery herbs to give your strawberry shortcake another unexpected pop. âFor an extra hit of summer, adding some thinly sliced basil leaves right before serving closes the deal,â he says.
3 Common Mistakes To AvoidNow that you know how to make strawberry shortcake like an award-winning chef, here are some things youâll want to avoid, according to Leite.Â
1. Donât twist your biscuit cutterBettina BRINKMANN / Gamma-Rapho via Getty Images
Although you can always use premade shortcake shells or sponge cake, if youâre making your own biscuits from scratch, you should avoid twisting your biscuit cutter. âIf you twist the cutter, you pinch and seal the edges of the dough, which completely locks down the gluten and destroys the magnificent rise you're looking for,â Leite says.
2. Be mindful of macerationViktoriya Skorikova / Getty Images
Despite some recipes calling for you to macerate strawberries for a few hours or even overnight, Leite says when it comes to macerating berries, the shorter the better.
âTossing the sliced berries in sugar sweetens them as well as creates all that luscious juice. But leave them too long, and you're fishing out flaccid little triangles of fruit,â he says. âI find 20 minutes, maybe 30, is perfect. None of this overnight chilling in the fridge.â
3. Skip store-bought whipped creamFrame of Minds / Shutterstock.com
This one might ruffle a few feathers, but while objectively thereâs nothing wrong with Cool Whip or store-bought whipped cream from a can, if youâre going for a showstopping strawberry shortcake, itâs a good idea to make your own whipped cream.
Not only is it super easy, but it also tastes so much better. âA simple Chantilly cream made from heavy cream, powdered sugar, vanilla and a pinch of salt is all you need. It blows Cool Whip out of the water,â Leite says.
Final Takeaways for Strawberry Shortcake SuccessAt the end of the day, turning strawberry shortcake into a showstopper doesnât have to be complicated. With a few simple tricks, you can make a delicious summer-ready dessert thatâll have your friends asking you for the recipe. Whether you do the double stack, spice it up or add in some fresh herbs, you canât go wrong with any of these tips. And if youâve got a genius strawberry shortcake tip of your own, feel free to share it in the comments!

Aerosmith Helped Change Music Forever With One Download 32 Years Ago Today
Before anyone effectively figured out how to sell music on the internet, Aerosmith gave it away. On June 27, 1994, the Boston rock band and their label, Geffen Records, made history by releasing "Head First" as the first song by a major artist available exclusively as a digital download, and the music industry hasn't really been the same ever since.
The vehicle was CompuServe, one of America's first major internet service providers, which counted roughly two million subscribers at the time. Customers could type "GO AEROSMITH" into the CompuServe command line and receive a 4.3MB WAV file of the track, or a smaller mono version for those tight on storage. The song was free, and CompuServe waived its standard $9.60-an-hour connection fees for the duration of the download. Given the modem speeds of the era, that download still took 60 to 90 minutes, and around 10,000 people did exactly that within the first eight days the song was available.
The track itself was a leftover. "Head First" came from Aerosmith's sessions for 1993's Get a Grip and had only appeared previously as a B-side on the European release of "Eat the Rich." Selecting it was partly practical, as Geffen's technology team, led by Chief Technology Officer Jim Griffin, needed a short file. "It was proof of life for digital music," Griffin said years later. The legal questions were immediate and enormous. How would artists, labels, and songwriters get paid in a world of digital files? There was no clear answer in 1994. Griffin himself went from CTO to traveling the world explaining the revolution in digital music distribution.

Steven Tyler, for his part, seemed more interested in the larger technology of the moment than the paperwork details. "If our fans are out there driving down that information superhighway, then we want to be playing at the truck stop," he said at the time. "This is the future, so let's get it going." Bassist Tom Hamilton took it further, entering CompuServe chat rooms to speak directly with fans and occasionally correct misconceptions about Aerosmith lore.
The music industry around them was far more cautious. Major labels were still treating the internet as a threat to be managed rather than a channel to embrace. Geffen's Luke Wood later described the rationale simply. "We did it because it can be done and is cool and is fun," he said, though he acknowledged the harder question lurking underneath. "How do you collect copyright fees?" Within a few years, Napster would answer that question in a way that further disrupted the industry.
Thirty-two years later, the industry that "Head First" helped disrupt generates the vast majority of its revenue from digital streaming. What Aerosmith and Geffen were at the front of with a single WAV file and a 90-minute wait time now plays out billions of times a day, frictionlessly, in pockets around the world.
Sister Act Star Reveals She Played Her 1992 Character as Having an Attraction to Whoopi Goldberg
Wendy Makkena, who played soft-spoken novice Sister Mary Robert in the beloved Sister Act films alongside Whoopi Goldberg, has opened up about some of her character choices.
âI thought to myself, âHow am I gonna then justify how obsessed I sort of am with Deloris?' And then I thought, âWell, maybe there's an attraction,'â Makkena has recently said on the You Might Know Her From podcast.
The 1992 feelgood classic follows Goldberg's Deloris Van Cariter after she is forced into witness protection and must disguise herself as a nun. Makkena played a timid, novice to the convent who is still trying to find her place amongst the other nuns.
View this post on InstagramDeloris's loud, confident nature helps to warm up Sister Mary Roberts, who soon starts to sing and speak out. Makkena made the choice to add a subtext to her performance. The movie also starred Maggie Smith, Kathy Najimy, Mary Wickes, and Harvey Keitel.Â
âIt occurred to me that possibly, Sister Mary Robert was drawn to Deloris unconsciously, subconsciously⊠that there was some kind of attraction that not even Sister Mary Robert would have been, given how very innocent she was, aware of,â Makkena explained on the podcast
She never told anyone about her decision, âAnd nobody certainly noticed it on set. It was just an internal little secret that I used as an actor.â
But, some critics and audience members did pick up on this subtle character choice, something which surprised and validated the actress.
âIt wasn't until the movie came out and the reviews were so lovely, and somebody called me, and they said, âOh my gosh, Out Magazine says that how come nobody has noticed the sexual tension between Deloris and Sister Mary Robert?'â she recalled. âI remember thinking, âOh my God, they picked up on it.' â
The film has long been a favorite of the LGBTQ+ community. In 2017, Dazed wrote a piece calling Sister Act a "biracial lesbian rom-com." In 2022, Catapult wrote about the "queerness" of the Whoopi Goldberg movie.

Meghan Markle Prayed For These Two Things On Her First Visit To Princess Diana's Grave
When Prince Harry took Meghan Markle to visit Princess Diana's grave for the first time, Meghan asked her late mother-in-law for two things.
The Duchess of Sussex's two-word prayer at the late Princess of Wales' resting place was revealed by the Duke of Sussex in his memoir Spare.
In 2022 Harry and Meghan marked the 25th anniversary of Diana's death by visiting the secluded island at the centre of an ornamental lake in the depths of Althorp Park, the Spencer family estate.
Harry wrote about the experience of rowing himself and his wife out to the island.
"No visit to this place was ever easy," he wrote, "but this one⊠twenty-fifth anniversary. And Megâs first time. At long last, I was bringing the girl of my dreams home to meet mum."
He said that before the couple approached the grave there was a moment where they hung back in hesitation, hugging one another, before he appraoched the grave first and laid flowers.
He went on, "Meg gave me a moment, and I spoke to my mother in my head, told her I missed her, asked her for guidance and clarity.
"Feeling that Meg might also want a moment, I went around the hedge, scanned the pond. When I came back, Meg was kneeling, eyes shut, palms against the stone."
He added, âI asked, as we walked back to the boat, what sheâd prayed for. Clarity, she said. And guidance."
Harry and Meghan are reportedly planning to bring their two children Prince Archie (7) and Princess Lilibet Diana (5) to visit their late grandmother's grave for the first time when they visit the UK next month.
The visit will come just a few days after what would have been Diana's 65th birthday on July 1.
The website for Diana's ancestral estate notes that Althorp House and its park will be closed to the public on July 10 and 11, coinciding with Harry and Meghan's visit. It's been suggested that this could mean that the Sussexes will be hosted at Althorp at some point during their five day trip to the UK.
Meanwhile, it was reported today that King Charles III has offered to host Harry and Meghan at an unspecified royal estate for part of their stay, and that his offer has been accepted.
The Duke of Sussex has been offered royal accommodation when he previously traveled from his home in Montecito, California to his home country, but has always declined.
Does his acceptance of the offer this time around indicate a thaw in the frosty relations between himself and his father?

Harry and Meghan's upcoming trip will mark the first time since in four years that the Sussexes will visit the UK as a family.
However Harry and Meghan are not expected to bring their children to the one year countdown events for the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham, which take place from July 10-17.
Later this summer, August 31 will mark the 29th anniversary of Princess Diana's death.
The Princess of Wales died tragically after a car crash in a Paris tunnel in 1997, due to a high-speed chase by the paparazzi and what the subsequent inquest described as the âgross negligenceâ of her driver, Henri Paul, whose blood alcohol was reportedly three times over the French legal limit.
Diana was buried later in a private ceremony in Althorp Park a few hours after her funeral. She was wearing a black woolen long-sleeved cocktail dress by Catherine Walker that she had ordered only weeks before she died, and holding a set of rosary beads that were a gift from Mother Theresa.
Originally, Diana was supposed to be interred in the Spencer family vault at a local church, but the scenes of grief after her death led to concerns that her burial place could be overwhelmed with visitors.
To ensure that her sons and other family members could visit her grave in privacy, Diana was buried on an island in the middle of the ornamental Oval Lake.
The path to the lake is lined with 36 oak trees, each of which represents a year of Dianaâs life.
In 2017 her brother Earl Spencer said, "We have had four attempted break-ins towards her body in the last 20 years. I am very glad that we have seen all of them off. There are some odd people out there."
Although you canât visit Dianaâs grave, Althorp is open to visitors during the summer. You can look across the lake to the white memorial urn that glows among the lush greenery, and visit the lakeside temple dedicated to Diana where visitors can leave tributes.
The temple is decorated with a black-and-white cameo of the princess, as well as one of her quotes: âNothing brings me more happiness than trying to help the most vulnerable people in society. It is a goal and an essential part of my life. A kind of destiny. Whoever is in distress can call on me. I will come running wherever they are.â

According to a report from Page Six, Stevie Nicks and Tim McGraw will perform at what some insiders are calling "Wedding-palooza" at Madison Square Garden on Friday, July 3.

As for Nicks, Swift may have dropped a hint during Game 4 of the NBA Finals when she wore a shirt reading "Stevie Knicks" as the New York Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden.
TMZ also reports that Paul McCartney's name has been circulated as a third potential performer, but it's not confirmed if the former Beatles member will actually play.

Edward Norton Recalls Brad Pitt Tearing Up After 'Fight Club' Was Booed at Premiere
The audience may not have embraced Fight Club at its premiere, but Edward Norton says Brad Pitt never lost faith in the film
Appearing on David Spade and Dana Carvey'sFly on the Wall podcast Thursday, June 25, Norton recalled the pair's experience at the 1999 Venice Film Festival, where the now-iconic film received a far different reception than fans might expect today.
"They made a very strange decision to premiere that movie at the Venice Film Festival, which didn't feel like a good fit, and it got booed," Norton, 56, said.Â
View this post on InstagramEven before the screening began, both actors had a feeling the audience might not vibe with David Fincher's dark satire. "Brad had said to me, 'How do you think this is going to go?' And I said, 'I don't think this is going to go well at all.' And he said, 'Me neither. Let's get stoned.'"
The prediction unfortunately proved accurate. "I remember sitting in the back and watching the movie and they booed at the end and people left in the middle of it," Norton recalled. The actor remembered Pitt turning to him in the darkness, "kind of tearful," before saying, "I think that's the best movie I'm ever going to be in."
But looking back, Norton believes the rocky debut may have actually worked in the film's favor. "It's almost betterâ he said before Spade jumped in, saying, "It turn[ed] into an important thing that hits people.â Norton agreed, saying it was a very ânervy but very cool feeling."
The nostalgic story dropped the same day Pitt and Norton reunited at the FIFA Club World Cup in California, where the longtime friends were spotted watching the U.S.A. vs. TĂŒrkiye match together from a luxury suite. Photos of the pair immediately sparked a wave of Fight Clubjokes and memes across social media, with fans celebrating the reunion nearly three decades later.
While Fight Club ultimately bombed at the box officeâearning just $37 million domestically against a reported $65 million budgetâthe film found new life on home video, selling an estimated 13 million DVDs and becoming one of cinema's most celebrated cult classics. Twenty-five years later, it returned to theaters for a special 4K re-release.

Country Star Earns First No. 1 Hit Amid 2026 Tour
Amid his major North American headlining tour, country star Josh Ross has claimed his first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. The milestone has elicited an excited response from the up-and-coming star's rapidly growing fan base.
Ross's hit track, "Hate How You Look," claimed the top spot after passing Ella Langley's single "Be Her," which had dominated the No. 1 position for four consecutive weeks. Before this achievement, Ross's highest-charting single was "Single Again," which peaked at No. 2 on the Country Airplay tally last summer.

Ross got his start in the country music space in 2019 after retiring from his college football career. The 30-year-old musician released his debut EP Do What You Love in 2020, garnering his first bits of mainstream attention with his 2021 single "First Taste of Gone." Last fall, Ross released his first full-length studio album, Later Tonight, which further established him as a force to be reckoned with in the modern country landscape.
His chart-topping hit "Hate How You Look"âco-written by Nicolas Sainato, Chris McKenna, Jessica Farren and Christian Yanceyâwas initially dropped on April 18, 2025. Following the eventual arrival of Later Tonight, the track saw a massive uptick in listener demand. Today, the song is one of Ross's most successful releases on Spotify, racking up an impressive 30.8 million streams.
In February, the country star launched a major headlining trek dubbed the Later Tonight Tour. The run traveled throughout North America, highlighting the songs from his debut full-length project. After his headlining trek wraps up in August, the star is set to join country duo Dan + Shay as support for their fall run, dubbed The Young Tour.
Tickets for Ross's upcoming shows can be purchased through his official website.

Before 'Die Hard,' Bruce Willis Had a Music Career Under a Different Name
Most fans know Bruce Willis for his run of Hollywood blockbusters, from Die Hard to The Sixth Sense. But before he became an action icon, the actor moonlighted as a singer, and he did it under a different name entirely.
Back in the late 1980s, Willis tried his hand at recording music, performing as a rock star alter ego he called Bruno Radolini.

In January 1987, he released his debut album, The Return of Bruno, a 10-track R&B record stacked with guest talent including the Pointer Sisters, the Temptations, and organ legend Booker T. Jones.
The album proved a genuine hit, climbing to No. 14 on the Billboard 200, powered by its lead single, Respect Yourself.
Willis's version, a duet with June Pointer, reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was originally recorded by the Staple Singers in 1971.
His follow-up singles didn't match that high. Young Blood stalled at No. 68 in the U.S., though Under the Boardwalk found a second life across the pond, soaring to No. 2 on the U.K. singles chart, as per Sessiondays.
Willis also slipped into character for an hour-long HBO mockumentary, also titled The Return of Bruno, which aired the same year. The special featured music greats like Elton John, Ringo Starr, and Brian Wilson, all of them riffing on Bruno's supposed influence on their careers, alongside faux concert footage spanning the 1960s through the 1980s.
View this post on InstagramAround the same time, Willis signed on with Seagram's Golden Wine Coolers for a series of commercials in which he also sang, according to Retro Network. But Bruno was largely left behind once Die Hard hit theaters in 1988 and grossed roughly $40 million.
He gave music one more proper go, releasing a second album, If It Don't Kill You, It Just Makes You Stronger, in 1989. This time, there was no mention of Bruno.
He never fully hung up the microphone, though. In the early '90s, Willis and then-wife Demi Moore invested in the Planet Hollywood chain, and he often performed at restaurant openings with his blues band, the Accelerators.

Willis always treated Bruno as a deliberate creation, not just a lark. "Bruno takes himself very seriously," he told the Today show in 1987.
"I kinda look at him as just another performance, just another page in the book of the entertainment that I do. He's a character that I play. It certainly allows me not to take myself so seriously."
Even though he never became a music superstar, he's always spoken fondly of the chapter. "I don't have any regrets about anything I've done," he later told MTV. "I've certainly learned from some of the things that I've done. But I wouldn't change anything."
In 2023, Willis's family announced that the actor, now 71, had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.
View this post on Instagram"FTD is a cruel disease that many of us have never heard of and can strike anyone," his family said in a statement.
"For people under 60, FTD is the most common form of dementia, and because getting the diagnosis can take years, FTD is likely much more prevalent than we know. Today, there are no treatments for the disease, a reality that we hope can change in the years ahead."
He has since stepped away from the spotlight. Through it all, he's had the steady support of his wife, Emma Heming Willis, a British-American model, actress, and entrepreneur who has become a leading voice for families and caregivers navigating neurodegenerative disease.Â
She has spoken candidly about the realities of caregiving and worked to raise awareness of FTD since the diagnosis was made public.
Legendary '90s Rocker Interrupts Concert with Total Dad Moment - And Fans Are Loving It
No matter how famous Dave Grohl may be, at the end of the day he's still a dad, and with that comes all the trappings of fatherhood, including one of the most time-honored traditions of being a girl dad, and that's giving your daughter's boyfriend a hard time.
Yep. The Foo Fighters show was capped off by a hilarious moment between Grohl and his daughter's boyfriend, who came on stage looking to perform a song with the band. This would be allowed, but only under one condition. He would need to solve a Rubik's Cube first.
@concertplanetI genuinely didnât think heâd do it đ„ #foofighters #davegrohl #rubikscube #anfield #fyp
⏠original sound - Concert PlanetIt was a tense moment to start, with a drum roll and everything as he raced to complete the puzzle. He did it though, and as promised, he got to take a song with the band. Surprising all the fans in the audience, he hopped on the drums and hung with the group for a great version of the song "Rope."
Of course, the stunt was all some lighthearted fun to make the show into something more exciting for the fans there, which it certainly accomplished. It's such a bizarre and silly idea, that it no doubt elevated the performance and brought everyone there closer together. Fans absolutely loved the moment, leaving comments about how funny it was, and how great of a job he did on the drums.
"Clearly his daughter chose wisely!"
"He was sick on the drums as well!!"
"Can you imagine Dave Grohl being your girlfriends dad and not being able to play drums???đ€Łđđ€Łđđ€Łđ€Ł"
We're all proud of the kid for holding his own with the family hazing. Most guys get a bit of a hard time at family dinner or something else, but not solving a Rubik's Cube in front of thousands of people. Regardless, it was a fun moment that we can all laugh at.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Reunite for Brother Trent's Wedding
It takes something special to coax Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen into the public eye, and a family wedding did just that.Â
The famously private twins made a rare appearance to celebrate their older brother, Trent Olsen, as he tied the knot, stepping out in their signature style for the joyful occasion. In a photo posted to Instagram on Thursday, June 26, by their new sister-in-law, Alexis, the sisters can be seen in floor-length black gowns, beaming as they posed alongside the bride and groom.
The group shot brought much of the Olsen family together, including the twins' younger sister and Marvel star, Elizabeth Olsen, who smiled from the back row in black. Elizabeth is expecting her first child with husband Robbie Arnett. "Family," Alexis and Trent wrote in their joint caption, adding a white heart.
The couple shared other warm moments from the May celebration, including a sweet photo of Mary-Kate hugging her older brother.

Glimpses of the twins are rare these days. Their last notable outing came at the 2025 CFDA Fashion Awards in November, where their luxury label, The Row, took home the American Accessory Designer of the Year award.
Beyond the occasional event or stray paparazzi shot, the sisters keep a low profile and steer clear of social media.

1976 Summer Film, Starring Future Hollywood Icon, Was Sold as a Party Movie but Told a Very Different Story
Sam Elliott is known for his long career in films such as Road House, Mask, The Big Lebowski, and A Star is Born. But his breakthrough came in 1976 when he landed the starring role in the movie Lifeguard.
Directed by Daniel Petrie, Lifeguard featured Elliott in the title role as Rick Carlson, a professional lifeguard on a Southern California beach. The romantic drama focused on the kind, 30-something lifeguard serving as a mentor to trainee Chris (Parker Stevenson) while questioning his life choices as he approached his 15-year high school reunion. Elliottâs character also became entangled with a teen paramour (Kathleen Quinlan) before his reunion meetup with his now-divorced ex-girlfriend (Anne Archer) had him considering a career change.
Lifeguard hit theaters on July 23, 1976, smack in the middle of the Bicentennial summer that included the release of films such as Ode to Billy Joe, Silent Movie, The Omen, Cannonball, and Gator. But instead of focusing on the theme of a thoughtful man feeling pressure to change, Lifeguard was marketed to look like a sex comedy, complete with a beefy caricature of Elliott alongside two bikini-clad women.
In an interview with Cinephiled, Elliott recalled that all of the actors took Lifeguard âvery seriouslyâ when they were making the film, so the marketing ploy put him off.
âItâs a coming-of-age story for Kathleen Quinlan, and it was also about this guy I played who was doing what he loved to do instead of succumbing to pressure to do something else,â he shared. âItâs a very good movie that Iâm proud of. But Paramount sold the film in very specific way. Their catchphrase was âEvery girlâs summer dreamâ and they used this artwork of me in my Speedo with a big-[breasted] girl on either side of me. ..they sold it like it was about that.â
âI went on the road doing press for six weeks, one city after another,â Elliott continued. âYou get into these towns and do interviews, and usually the reporters had seen the film the night before. Invariably, every f---ing interview started with, âThis movie isnât anything like I expected!â And man, when somebody said that, it just made me start sharing what I thought about the way Paramount was promoting the film.â
Poster for the 1976 film 'Lifeguard.' (Photo by LMPC via Getty Images)Elliott recalled that at the time he was very outspoken in the press as he slammed the way the film was advertised. Speaking with Business Insider, the actor admitted that his honesty while promoting the film hurt his career to a degree.
âHonest, opinionated, and not very smart. All at the same time. And that's a lethal combination,â he shared. âAnd I'll tell you what it came out of â it was the way Paramount chose to market that film."
"We took that whole movie serious, even though it was a fluffy treatment because it was set on a beach," Elliott explained. "But it was about a guy who was at a point in his life that he had to make up his mind about what he wanted to do: be a lifeguard or get a real job. And when the marketing campaign came out⊠people would start the interview by saying, âThis movie is nothing like I expected it to be,â based on the marketing, and we would go into this long discussion about the f---ing marketing. It was never positive. So in the end, I never worked for Paramount again.â

While he admittedly âscared people offâ with his opinionated talk about the movieâs marketing, Elliott told The Hollywood Reporter he still felt blessed by his career. âI had my moment, where I had the starring role in Lifeguard and all that âŠIâve managed to be very fortunate over the years. These things have kept coming around and coming around.â
He also noted that he could relate to his Lifeguard character and was happy with the ending to the film.
"Lifeguard is the closest thing to me personally Iâve ever done,â he once said, per Womanâs World. âEveryone stresses money, money, money in the filmâthey pressure him like crazy. I agree with the choice he finally makes and, frankly, itâs easy for the character to make. I suppose it is a cop-out in a way. His life is happy and content, but heâs not a beach bum, either. In California, itâs a realistic way of making a living.â
Prince George Is Nearly as Tall as Kate Middleton in Rare Mother-Son Outing
We can't believe how tall Prince George has gotten!
In new footage released of the duo the twelve-year-old prince is almost exactly the same height as his mother Kate Middleton.
The Princess of Wales and her oldest son stepped out for a rare joint outing to a Royal Air Force base.
To mark Armed Forces day a video was released that includes footage of the duo posing in front of a WWII-era Spitfire plane.
Mother and son also took turns to climb into the fighter plane to inspect the cockpit.
George was the image of his father Prince William, dressing up for the occasion in a navy suit, blue shirt, and brown loafers.
Kate wore a tweed blazer and a white t shirt, accessorizing with her Annoushka Baroque Pearl Drop Earrings.
View this post on InstagramThe ÂŁ450 ($594) pearl earrings are a huge favorite of Kate'sâshe's worn them on many occasions since 2012, and they have a poignant connection to her children.

When George was born in 2013, Kate, William, and their newborn son stayed with Kate's parents Michael and Carole Middleton for a while. During that hot summer, a candid snap was released of the familyâalong with their cocker spaniel Lupoâsitting on the sunlit lawn of the Middletons' home in Berkshire.
Kate is wearing her Annoushka pearl drops in the photo, which was taken by her father.
Two years later she wore the same earrings when she and William posed for the traditional picture with their newborn daughter Princess Charlotte on the steps of St. Maryâs Hospital in London, where Kate had just given birth.
She wore the earrings again in 2018 when she posed on the same steps with a newborn Prince Louis.
In the footage released today the Princess of Wales looked so proud to be accompanied by her oldest son during their visit to RAF Coningsby.
Kate has been Royal Honorary Air Commodore of RAF Coningsby since 2023.
As second in line to the throne, Prince George will one day be commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces.
"Honouring Service and Sacrifice," the caption read of the video posted to the Prince and Princess of Wales's official Instagram account.
"Marking Armed Forces Day by reflecting on time spent with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at RAF Coningsby.
"Learning about the extraordinary history of these aircraft and meeting the pilots and engineers who keep their legacy alive.
"A powerful reminder of the courage, skill and dedication of those who serve, past and present.
Thank you to all those who have served and continue to serve."
We last saw Kate and George photographed together earlier this month, when they posed with the other members of the royal family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace at King Charles III's birthday parade.
This summer will be bittersweet for Kate and William, as it will mark their oldest son's last summer at home before he heads to his new school in the fall.
Kensington Palace recently confirmed that the 12-year-old future king is set to follow in his father Prince William and uncle Prince Harryâs footsteps by enrolling at Eton College, the elite boys-only boarding school that costs $84,000 per year.
Although George will be a boarder, he will still be only a 15-minute drive from his familyâs home of Forest Lodge in the grounds of Windsor Castle.
When William was a student at Eton, he often swung by Windsor Castle to have tea with his grandmotherQueen Elizabeth II.
Helen Slater on Beating Demi Moore To Play Supergirl in 1984 Movie
Helen Slater has recently passed the baton to new Supergirl actress Milly Alcock. The actress donned the red cape in 1984's Supergirl, which was so poorly received that it sadly did not get a sequel.
Long Island-born Slater won the part of Superman's cousin after she auditioned in a homemade Supergirl costume.
âI canât remember what I had for breakfast yesterday but I remember that audition. I was the only one sitting there that had a costume on. It was either, âuh-oh, this is either an epic failâ or âlook how courageous I amâ,â she recently told The Telegraph.
The 62-year-old said she beat a âa cabal of Eighties actressesâ for the role. Most famously, she also beat both Demi Moore and Brooke Shields to play Kara Zor-El.
âWe always ideally tried to have big stars surrounding an unknown,â admitted the producer Ilya Salkind, per Sci Fi Now. âHelen Slater was totally unknown at the time and when we tested her we had seen a lot of girls, including Demi Moore, who turned it down. But when we finally saw Helen she absolutely stole the show, so we decided to go with her.â
âNo one ever told me why I got the part,â Slater told the Telegraph, although she believes her earnestness matches Christopher Reeveâs overgrown Boy Scout. âThey really doubled down on the sweetness,â says Slater about her version of Supergirl. âVery different to what weâre about to see with Milly.â
Being plucked from obscurity to play such an iconic comic book character, came with some side effects. âI felt the weight of it because of the publicity campaign,â Slater explained, before adding âI felt the whole weight of the experience because I was from New York but I was living in London. I was by myself. There was a heaviness to it.â
Slater has remained closely tied to the franchise over the years, appearing in the TV series Smallville as Superman's biological mother and in the CW's Supergirl show as Supergirlâs adoptive mother, Eliza Danvers.
Iconic '80s Rockstar Blows Fans Away with 'Ageless' Talent at Concert
In the music world, it's certainly hard to find a legacy act that can still produce on stage like they used to. That's no disrespect to any musicians in their later years, but it's an unfortunate truth that the road has a way of wearing the body down. That being said, Sammy Hagar is sounding pretty youthful still. If what Robbie Robertson of The Band said about touring being an "impossible way of life" is true, then it seems Hagar is doing the impossible.
You should remember Sammy Hagar from his work with Van Halen. Some of the bands most classic records feature his vocal work, such as the smash hit "5150." As one of the still remaining members of the band, he's one of the last places you can hear some authentic Van Halen from the source, and untainted from the years on the road.
At a recent concert of his, fans were absolutely stunned by his youthfulness on stage, and the talent he's still able to accurately reproduce.
@that80srockchicSammy Hagar Tour
⏠original sound - đ€MeTal Melđ€MMtvđ€Between his guitar playing and singing, the '80s icon has still got the stuff. That's an especially impressive feat as the style of singing he's known for is really hard on your voice. The high pitched, fried out screams that define the hard rock anthems of Van Halen's music cause a lot of wear and tear, but it seems that convention has skipped Hagar and left him unscarred.
Fans were quick to the comments to praise the star and the performance he's still able to give forty years after Van Halen's prime.
"I was there!!! Amazing!!!"
"Sammy is doing it right. He sounds great, heâs dressing like an older dude who plays music. Not chasing the 80âs."
"This guy is ageless! Long live Sammy!!!"
We're lucky that one of the '80s biggest rock icons gets to rock out like the years haven't gone by all the way to today. Even if it's for one night, concerts can turn the years back and make everyone young again.
Mira Sorvino, 58, Just Shared a Video in Costume for the âRomy and Micheleâ Sequel and She Looks So Good
Mira Sorvino just shared a video in costume from the set of the Romy and Michele's High School Reunion sequel, and she looks almost the same as she did 29 years ago.
The acclaimed actress, 58, who scored an Academy Award for her role in Woody Allenâs 1995 film Mighty Aphrodite, is a fan favorite thanks to legendary performances in films like Summer of Sam. The daughter of the late Goodfellas star Paul Sorvino, sheâs married to Christopher Backus, and the duo has four children. But one of her most beloved films, Romy and Michele, has brought fans back for rewatches endlessly. And with the new sequel in the works starring Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow, everyone's ready to head to the theater.
In a new video shared to her Instagram account, Sorvino showed herself in costume as Romy once again. Sporting platinum blonde hair and red lipstick, it's almost shocking how little she's changed since the 1997 film came out. However, it was her touching message that really resonated with fans.
"After 30 years, we have a sequel... I couldn't be more excited," Sorvino shared from the set of Romy and Michele 2. Looking like she might burst into tears of joy, the star shared that they just completed the first day on set of the highly anticipated sequel.
