32 years ago today, on March 28, 1994, Tim McGraw released a song that would change his career, launching him to superstardom. 

That song was “Don’t Take the Girl.” 

The nostalgic country ballad, written by Craig Martin and Larry W. Johnson and released on the 2026 Country Music Hall of Fame inductee’s second studio album, Not a Moment Too Soon, walks listeners through a love story between two people who met while fishing as kids. Although the male character, Johnny, wasn’t keen on the girl at first, different stages of his life show the pair end up becoming romantic partners. 

However, through a series of traumatic events like being mugged and facing a life-threatening hospital ordeal with the woman, who is presumed to be his wife, the man desperately pleads with a higher power not to “take the girl” when the doctor delivers the grim news: “The baby's fine / But you'll have to leave / 'Cause his momma's fadin' fast."

At that point, the chorus goes: “Johnny hit his knees / And there he prayed / Take the very breath you gave me / Take the heart from my chest / I'll gladly take her place if you'll let me / Make this my last request / Take me out of this world / God, please, don't take the girl.”

Tim McGraw Previously Cleared up Confusion About the Ending

Interestingly, the song leaves listeners with a cliffhanger, as fans are left to wonder if the mother survived at the end of the song. Despite the music video showing her fishing with her husband and the couple’s kid at the end, McGraw, 58, who is married to fellow country star Faith Hill, confirmed that the song is made for folks to believe the mother did not make it. 

“The mom probably died,” McGraw previously said of the song during an interview onThe Bobby Bones Show. “I mean, it makes it more sad, right?”

By the time McGraw had released “Don’t Take the Girl,” he was four singles into his career, and experienced some chart success, but none of his prior songs had reached the top spot. However, “Don’t Take the Girl,” struck a particular chord with listeners, giving the Louisiana-born country icon his first No. 1 hit at country radio.

“Don’t Take the Girl” topped the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and the Canadian Country Tracks chart. The song also crossed over to pop, reaching the Top 20 on Billboard’s all-genre Hot 100 chart. While the song helped launch McGraw’s career, he has since released numerous other hits, earning nearly 50 No. 1 singles.

Still, “Don’t Take the Girl,” which was ranked at No. 15 onTaste of Country’s Top 100 Country Songs of All Time list, remains one of his signature and most significant songs in his catalog.

Saturday Night Fever was still ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive months after its original release. 

Shuffling into theaters on Dec. 14, 1977, the film directed by John Badham and written by Nik Cohn and Norman Wexler was still going strong on this day in 1978, according to Variety’s archives. In fact, it was No. 1 at the box office, having reached the top spot in February and setting up shop for the next four weeks. A smooth-operating vehicle for John Travolta to introduce the world to his loose-swinging hips and burly chest hair, the film stars the actor as Tony Manero, a 19-year-old Italian American from Brooklyn who uses disco dancing to escape from his directionless nine-to-five reality. When a dance competition is announced, he recruits a dancer just as determined to rise above mediocrity as himself to be his partner (Karen Lynn Gorney), and sparks -- as well as sequins and swagger -- fly.

The film made an estimated $2.4 million worldwide, nearly covering its $3 million budget. But its legacy far outweighs its shortcomings. With an iconic soundtrack featuring contributions from the Bee Gees, Walter Murphy, and David Shire, and the power to add years to a genre of music that was on its way out, Saturday Night Fever was an instant classic. 

In 2017, Travolta sat down with Daily Commercial for a wide-ranging chat, during which he said Saturday Night Fever was “the blueprint for everything that happened to me.” 

“It put me on the map,” he said. “It was my first Academy Award nomination. It earned critical acclaim and awards for the performance. That solidified my abilities as an actor to the masses and to the press and to my own peers. It was very important to show I had moved beyond ‘Kotter.’”

Move beyond the sitcom he did. Following his time in head-to-toe white polyester, Travolta moved on to play the black-leather-clad Danny Zuko in Grease and never looked back.

With Ryan Gosling’s megahit crowd-pleaser, Project Hail Mary, flying high in theaters right now, it’s given Harry Styles' 2017 debut solo hit “Sign of the Times” new life. The song, performed in a moving karaoke scene in the film by Sandra Hüller’s character, Eva Stratt, is now going viral again and re-charting following its peak at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April 2017.

David Bowie’s 1972 cosmic calling card, “Starman,” is the ultimate theme song for humanity. A message about hope for future generations, the song was the lead single from Bowie's fifth studio album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, and launched into a new orbit with Ridley Scott’s 2015 sci-fi epic, The Martian, starring Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and so many more familiar faces. 

“Perhaps it’s an obvious song choice for a movie about a man trapped in space, but David Bowie’s ‘Starman’ has never sounded more at home than it did in the 2015 film, The Martian,” American Songwriter says. “As Matt Damon’s character starts to get a grip on his marooned trip to Mars, this song gets a needle drop, giving viewers a dose of classic rock magic.”

The film, which follows the action-, comedy-, and emotion-packed mission of getting an astronaut abandoned on Mars back home to Earth, was a monster success, raking in $630,621,406 worldwide and seven Oscar nominations. The track, from the 2012 remaster of Bowie's album, plays during a montage of NASA hatching their plan to bring Damon’s Mark Watney home. 

“Not only does this song have major cultural appeal, but it’s a classic for a reason,” AS writes. “Even without the space imagery this film provides, ‘Starman’ became a universal favorite. Hearing this song in this setting feels like opening a capsule sent from humanity to some unknown, attempting to encapsulate what we’re all about.”

Michael York is celebrating a major milestone.

The iconic '70s actor, whose early film career included a Cannes-honored title, turns 84 on March 27, 2026.

Born in Fulmer, England, on March 27, 1942, York built his reputation on the stage before becoming one of the most recognizable faces of film in the late 1960s and 1970s. His early career on screen included Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet, and from there he went on to deliver a run of remarkable performances.

One of the strongest of those performances was in Accident, the 1967 Joseph Losey drama in which York portrayed the vital role of William, an aristocratic Oxford student. The film won the Jury's Special Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, giving York a connection to one of cinema's most prestigious honors early in his career.

York went on to fill the decade with roles in Cabaret, The Three Musketeers and Logan's Run, showcasing the versatile performance skills that made him such a natural fit for the wide range of films.

Turner Classic Movies later noted that by the time Logan's Run arrived in 1976, he was already regarded as "one of the most respected young actors around after his recent successes in Cabaret (1972), The Three Musketeers (1973), and Murder on the Orient Express (1974)."

His career did not stop with the '70s. York's appearances in later film, television and stage work continued for decades, even reaching new generations with roles in films such as Austin Powers. He has also diverged from the screen and pursued new interests, such as creating a long list of audiobook recordings and books.

Now, at 84, he lives in Los Angeles with his wife Pat, and is not officially retired but has taken a large step back from performance due to recent health concerns.

With a career spanning over 60 years, York has created a legacy that will continue to endure for ages, reminding society of truly elegant, versatile, and talented acting.

Few actors from the 1970s built a presence as steady and recognizable as Julian Glover.

Earning a title in the British royal family is relatively straightforward, but losing a title gets a bit more complicated. 

Questions about how and why someone can lose their royal title have been relevant following the stripping of Andrew Mountbatten Windsor's titles amid the ongoing fallout from his ties to Jeffrey Epstein. 

In October 2025, Buckingham Palace released a statement announcing King Charles’ decision to remove his brother’s titles as Prince and Duke of York and relocate him to a different residence.

“His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the style, titles and honours of Prince Andrew. Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor,” the statement read at the time, per BBC. “His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence. Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him.”

The palace added, “Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”

After his arrest in February 2026, Andrew is under investigation for potential corruption and misuse of public office. He is reportedly relocating to Marsh Farm, a rural property on the Sandringham Estate, in April, following renovations being done to the property. In addition to losing his titles, government officials are considering legislation to remove him from the royal line of succession, an act that can only be done by Parliament. As it stands, Andrew is eighth in line for the throne.

Letters Patent and Royal Warrants

The reigning monarch can grant, alter, or remove royal titles and His/Her Royal Highness (HRH) styles using Letters Patent and Royal Warrants. This allows the King to regulate the structure of the Royal Family without needing parliamentary legislation.

This was how Charles was able to strip Andrew’s titles under his own prerogative.

Act of Parliament

The Titles Deprivation Act 1917 set an early precedent for Parliament’s power within the royal family.

Three royals and one Viscount had their titles stripped after Parliament urged King George V to remove anyone who “adhered to His Majesty’s enemies” during World War I, namely Germany. 

“This was a specific piece of legislation passed during the First World War and does not provide a general power to remove peerages or other titles,” UK Parliament wrote on its website. 

Parliament is also the only body that can officially remove someone from the line of succession via legislation.

Abdication and Voluntary Relinquishment

King Edward VIII is the only British royal in modern history to voluntarily give up the throne when he married Wallis Simpson, an American divorcée. Queen Elizabeth II’s father, King George VI, ascended to the throne in 1936 after his brother abdicated.

While he was the only direct heir to the throne, Edward wasn’t alone in stepping away for love. Princess Patricia of Connaught, granddaughter of Queen Victoria, voluntarily relinquished her title in 1919 to marry commoner Alexander Ramsay.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were allowed to keep their titles, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, when they stepped down as senior royals in 2020. However, they are reportedly not allowed to use their HRH titles for commercial, public, or professional purposes. Harry is still fifth in line of succession, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, have kept their titles.

Harry and Meghan ensured their kids would be able to keep their titles, but Princess Anne, the only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, opted for a different path for her own children, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall.

Anne and ex-husband Mark Phillips’ kids were offered courtesy titles at their births, but their parents declined in hopes of giving them more normal lives. 

"I think it was probably easier for them, and I think most people would argue that there are downsides to having titles," Princess Anne explained to Vanity Fair in 2020. "So I think that was probably the right thing to do."

In 1996, Queen Elizabeth issued a Letters Patent barring divorced women from using their HRH titles. Her decree came the same year the divorces of Princess Diana and Charles and Sarah Ferguson and Andrew were finalized.

The Pitt newcomer Irene Choi recently admitted that there was one high-profile guest star this season whose appearance left her a little shaken—in the best way possible.

While her response to his presence was likely a little startling—which fans agreed was a "valid reaction"—she said he was "very kind," all the same.

Florek played Mr. Eddie Cohen on this season of The Pitt. He joined his wife in the emergency room after she was transported by ambulance as a result of being struck by a car in a “very low speed” accident that caused her to fall to the ground and bruise her hip.

Eddie, who was behind the wheel, swore the car “wasn’t even moving” and that his wife walked right into it, though she was positive he had backed into her. He ended up a patient himself, and the doctors at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center realized that the combination of medications he was prescribed had interacted together in a negative way which they seemed to attribute his problems to.

There's just something so entertaining about the different vernacular used throughout different eras and generations. And while words like "FAFO" or "big back" are very timely, they haven't stood the tests of time to see if decades from now, our grandchildren will be using them. Chicago P.D.'sMarina Squerciati has broken her silence following the official confirmation of the beloved Dick Wolf series' fate ahead of the conclusion of its 13th season.

The actress took to Instagram on Friday, March 27, to revel in the news that she'd get to spend another year with her colleagues, sharing a sweet on-set photo with a few of her fellow on-screen police officers.

NBC confirmed the renewal of not only Chicago P.D., but also Chicago Fire, which returns for its 15th season, and Chicago Med, which returns for its 12th, all three of which are slated to return in the fall of 2026.

No word yet on any major cast shakeups, though Squerciati's post seemingly confirms that Morton, Flueger, Aguilar and Hawkins are returning alongside her. Some reports suggest Jason Beghe may be planning to retire at the end of the season, but nothing concrete has surfaced at the time of writing.

Summer House starJesse Solomon is sharing his big regret about his behavior toward his castmate, Ciara Miller.

In a March 2026 interview with Access Hollywood's "Housewives Nightcap," Solomon referenced that he expressed some romantic interest in Miller, who previously dated his friend and co-star West Wilson, during Summer House season 10. Miller shared that she was hurt when she found out that Solomon had asked Wilson's permission to "makeout" with her.

"I definitely regret how I handled that situation and I should have had a conversation with Ciara about it," said Solomon to Access Hollywood's "Housewives Nightcap." "I think, I kind of, like my feelings got the best of me and I flippantly asked West if he'd be upset. He also said he believes he and Miller are better as fully platonic friends. In addition, Solomon said he has apologized to Miller about his comments to Wilson.

"She accepted my apology more or less. And I've apologized to her again since. Because I would never want to make her feel like that. I kind of ended up like upsetting both my friends," said Solomon.

According to Miller, Solomon would repeat the gossip shared during their time lying in bed together.

The band will go on to make 32 stops including locations such as Denver, Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Atlanta, Las Vegas and others before wrapping up in Los Angeles on Oct. 24. All dates will feature The Shins and Silversun Pickups as supporting acts.

While the tour is still some months away, fans in the L.A. area can gear up for the shows as part of the "Weezer: The Gathering — Initiation Week," a series of games with the band including trivia, pinball and pickleball taking place at various locations throughout this week.

Teddi Mellancamp is sharing an update on the status of her health during her ongoing battle with brain cancer.

During an interview with People at the iHeart Radio Music Awards, Mellencamp said she's "actually doing well" amid her treatment. During the awards ceremony, Mellencamp presented an award to her dad John Mellencamp.

"I had immunotherapy two weeks ago and then I have my next one in two weeks, so things are moving along nicely," she said.

Earlier this month, Mellencamp had shared that she suffered a scary reaction to her new medication called Steven-Johnson Syndrome.

“I thought I had the flu. And then I woke up one day and my whole body was just covered in, like, this terrible rash — like, you can't even say it's a rash because it's almost like sores all over my entire body," she said in a Tuesday, March 3 episode of her podcast Two Ts in a Pod.

Mellencamp was first diagnosed with stage two melanoma in 2022 and she subsequently underwent 17 surgeries. In 2025, Mellencamp publicly shared her cancer had metastasized to her brain and lungs. She has since undergone consistent immunotherapy treatments and while her cancer is still considered stage four, doctors have said she has "no trace of cancer."

Queen Camilla’s $10 million brooch holds an iconic place in British royal history, and there’s a reason it looks so familiar. 

Camilla has sported the Prince Albert's brooch, named after Queen Victoria’s husband, on several occasions. It was also a favorite of Queen Elizabeth II, who wore it to meet John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy at Buckingham Palace in 1961, as well as to Prince William’s 1982 Christening. The piece was given to Queen Victoria in 1840 by Prince Albert the night before their wedding. In Victoria’s will, she designated her beloved piece an "heirloom of the crown" so future generations could enjoy it.

The brooch is nearly identical to the iconic ring, which is exactly what King Charles intended when he selected the 12-carat sapphire ring from a Garrard catalogue prior to his 1981 proposal. 

"There's a very famous sapphire brooch which Queen Elizabeth wears regularly, passed down from Queen Victoria. That was the inspiration for the sapphire engagement ring that the Duchess of Cambridge wears,” a rep from Garrard, who served as the official Crown Jeweller to the British Royal Family from 1843 to 2007, explained to Marie Claire in 2017. “Prince Charles had always seen this beautiful sapphire brooch of his mother's, which House of Garrard had created. When he went to House of Garrard he saw that ring, and thought it was perfect."

The Duke of Sussex wrote that William actually received the sapphire ring after their mother died, despite what the papers reported.

Beloved character actor of the stage and screen, Austin Pendleton, is celebrating his 86th birthday.

Born in Warren, Ohio on March 27, 1940, Pendleton went on to become a respected figure in both theater and film, known for his unique delivery and ability to bring depth to even the smallest roles. He trained at Yale School of Drama and quickly established himself in the world of stage acting before transitioning into film and television.

Many audiences remember him for his role in the comedy My Cousin Vinny, where he played a nervous public defender with a stutter in one of the film’' most memorable scenes. The movie, which went on to become a beloved classic, also earned Marisa Tomei an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

"When I saw that the part had a stammer, I called up [director] Jonathan [Lynn] and said, 'What ever made you think I would do this?' cause, as a kid - and a little bit into my early adulthood - I had a real problem with that - and he knew it," Pendleton told Broadway World. He said, 'Well, you understand it,' and I said, 'Jonathan. No way am I doing that movie.' I do, incidentally, think it's a brilliant script and the kind of material that you do better than anyone in the world, but I do not want this part. I don't want to do it, I don't want to revisit that.' And he said ok."

That was almost the end of the story, but Lynn knew Pendleton was perfect for the role and wouldn't relent.

"I came home and my wife said, 'Jonathan wants to take you to dinner at the Greek restaurant around the corner.' I said, 'I know what this is about, no way is he going to persuade me to do this movie,'" Pendleton continued. "Well, two bottles of whiskey later, I agreed to do it. And it was a nightmare to do because I had a real problem with it when I was a teenager, and then I worked my way through it as an actor through a lot of vocal training. You're always afraid that if you do it, it's going to start up again, even if you're doing it as an actor, it's going to release all that out again, and you're going to be stuck with it again."

Beyond that role, Pendleton has appeared in a wide range of projects over the years, including films like What's Up, Doc? and numerous television appearances. At the same time, he maintained a strong connection to theater, working as both an actor and director in acclaimed stage productions.

In 1981, Pendelton earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Direction of a Play for the Broadway revival of The Little Foxes, starring Elizabeth Taylor. The nomination was just one of many accolades he's received within the world of theater.

"I was in [The Little Foxes] as an actor before, directed by Mike Nichols, with Anne Bancroft, so when I was asked to direct it 14 years later, I knew this brilliant play very, very well," Pendleton said in an interview. "Taylor was great, I mean she had real presence on stage. You didn’t have to worry about that. She had stage sophistication and she was a great colleague with everybody, including me. She was one of the people."

At 86, his long and varied career continues to stand as a testament to the lasting impact of great character actors, those who may not always take center stage, but leave a lasting impression all the same.

How To Style This 1960s Look Yourself

Getting the look right starts with building that signature lift.

Begin by blow-drying with a round brush to create volume at the roots, focusing on the crown, then lightly tease that section and smooth over the top for a clean finish.

"Even a small amount of height at the crown instantly elevates the entire look and gives it that timeless ’60s silhouette," says Diaz.

From there, gather the top section from the temples back and secure it with a clip, pin or elastic, letting the rest of the hair fall freely. Add soft waves through the lengths using a 3-barrel hair waver and finish with a flexible hairspray to hold everything in place without stiffness.

As Diaz puts it, "The goal is polished volume with movement so the hair still feels soft and effortless."
