Hotels and Rentals Are Out— House Swapping Is In and Honestly I Might Be Convinced to Try it

Sat, 03/28/2026 - 6:14am

For decades we’ve accepted hotels or short‑term rentals as the default way to find a place to sleep on vacation. But lately, travelers are literally swapping lives with one another, trading homes with total strangers in distant cities, towns, and even countries. Inspired by the romantic comedyThe Holiday and powered by digital platforms, this is a reinterpretation of travel itself.

At its simplest, house swapping means you stay in someone else’s home while they stay in yours, either at the same time or non‑simultaneously. In West Hartford, Connecticut, We-Ha reports Annie‑Karine Lamoureux and her family have completed 26 home swaps through HomeExchange. Lamoureux told local media that this method has fundamentally changed how her family travels. “I don’t think I could afford to travel as much as I do if I didn’t travel that way,” she said. “Usually I pay for my airfare with credit card points. I do HomeExchange, and essentially all I have to pay once I’m there is for food and activities.”

Don't miss a beat—subscribe now for trending travel updates and destination guides.

How House Swapping Actually Works (And Why It’s Not As Wild As It Sounds)

House swapping can feel a bit like online dating. You create a profile, list your home, browse others, send messages, and you plan a swap. Communication is key and virtually every experienced home swapper stresses the importance of chatting early and often to go over house rules, expectations, and neighborhood tips.

There are several variations:

  • Traditional swaps, where both homes are used at the same time.
  • Non‑simultaneous swaps, where one home stays open until it’s used later, often leveraged by people with multiple properties.
  • Points‑based systems, where stays are arranged using credits earned from hosting.

Platforms range from free community forums to paid services with added insurance and support. As one seasoned home swapper shared, “If you want a house, go to Airbnb; if you want a home, do a home exchange.”

Practical logistics vary. Many hosts leave keys in a lockbox or meet briefly before the swap. I’ve learned through community discussions on Reddit that good home manuals (detailing everything from Wi‑Fi passwords to fuse box locations) can make all the difference.

Real Voices From the Home Swap Community

The travel world is filled with house swap stories that brim with the kind of warmth you don’t get from hotel lobbies.

Take this Home Exchange testimony from Marilyn, who has been swapping homes for decades, and told fellow travelers that it “has enabled me to live a life others can only dream of.” She shared memories that feel like short stories all through house swaps.

Fuel your wanderlust with our top travel stories—join our newsletter today.

Another couple, Dave and Chauna, describe their exchange in Brittany, France as living like locals, from slow breakfasts in the garden to sea breezes on the coastal paths.

And then there’s the younger traveler who booked her swap through social media, per the New York Post. Though a bit nervous at first, she found that her Parisian host left thoughtful recommendations and gifts that made the trip unforgettable, an insider’s stay she wouldn’t have had otherwise.

From childhood Lego tables delighting visiting children to friendships that last long after the keys are handed back, these exchanges have a texture that hotel stays rarely achieve.

Savings are one of the biggest reasons people try house swapping. Some platforms estimate members can save thousands of dollars on lodging. For instance, typical seven‑night hotel costs easily exceed what people would pay for an exchange site membership, and with swaps you often avoid extra nightly fees altogether.

I recently talked to a friend who compared typical summer hotel rates, often well over $200 per night, to swapping with another traveler through a home exchange. Not having to shell out for accommodation allowed her to splurge a bit more on local dining and experiences. That extra flexibility changes a trip in a powerful way.

And it’s not just financial. One lifelong traveling couple estimates they’ve saved tens of thousands of dollars using home swaps, freeing them to visit over 20 destinations with far less stress on their budget.

Is House Swapping Right For You?

Let’s be honest: house swapping isn’t for everyone. It requires trust, communication, and a bit of vulnerability. There are risks like miscommunications, differing cleanliness standards, and yes, or the occasional awkward visit from someone sleeping in your bed. But for many travelers, those risks are part of the adventure.

In a travel world that too often feels transactional, house swapping brings back something old‑fashioned and beautiful: trust between strangers, curiosity about the world, and genuine local connection. Whether you’re a budget‑conscious nomad or someone eager to break away from the cookie‑cutter holiday, this is one trend worth exploring.

3 Travel Credit Cards Under $100 That Beat the $895 Giants, According to The Motley Fool

Sat, 03/28/2026 - 6:10am

This is the "aha!" moment for anyone currently staring at a $695 or $895 renewal notice and wondering if those digital entertainment credits and airport lounge snacks are actually worth the steep price of admission. If you’re mired in the "premium card" trap—constantly trying to justify a fee that costs as much as a round-trip ticket to Europe—a recent explainer from The Motley Fool is the reality check we all needed.

According to personal finance expert Joel O'Leary, the luxury travel card market has officially gotten out of hand. While the American Express Platinum Card now commands a staggering $895 annual fee, O'Leary argues that for the everyday traveler, the mental energy required to "earn back" that fee often outweighs the perks. Instead, he points to a trio of "under $100" power players that deliver massive welcome offers and solid travel protections without the triple-digit stress.

Related: The Top No-Fee Travel Credit Card of 2026, According to the Motley Fool

View this post on Instagram

Leading the pack is the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card. At a $95 annual fee, it’s currently making waves with a limited-time offer that includes 75,000 bonus miles plus a $250 credit for Capital One Travel. For those of us who don’t want to track "rotating categories," its unlimited 2X miles on every purchase is a dream. It even throws in a credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck, a perk usually reserved for those $400+ "prestige" cards.

If your travel style is more about the journey (and the dinner once you land), the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card remains a gold standard for a reason. Also priced at $95, it rewards the way we actually live—offering 3X points on dining and 5X on travel booked through their portal. It’s a favorite for the "points-curious" because of its flexibility; you can transfer points to over a dozen airline and hotel partners or get a 25% value boost by booking direct through Chase. Plus, the trip cancellation and auto rental insurance provide that "safety net" feeling for a fraction of the cost of a luxury card.

Related: Disney Just Dropped a New $149 Credit Card—And It’s Built for Superfans

Finally, for the traveler who prefers to book direct with airlines and hotels, the Wells Fargo Autograph Journey Card is the sleeper hit of 2026. For a $95 fee, it offers a jaw-dropping 5X points on hotels and 4X on airlines. It even includes a $50 annual airline credit, which effectively cuts the annual fee in half. Toss in up to $1,000 in cellphone protection, and you have a card that works hard for people who travel once or twice a year, not just the "every week" frequent flyer crowd.

Ultimately, O'Leary’s advice is simple: the best travel card isn’t the one with the most metal in the card itself or the longest list of niche perks. It’s the one that fits your real-world spending habits. If you’re tired of playing the "justification game" with a $895 fee, these sub-$100 options prove that you can still travel like a pro without the premium price tag.

This ‘Beyond the Gates’ Star Just Shared a ‘Life-Changing’ Lesson After a 4-Year Battle With Her Health

Sat, 03/28/2026 - 6:00am

Beyond the Gates star Daphnée Duplaix is opening up about a personal health journey, sharing an update with fans as she prepares to undergo surgery.

The CBS daytime star shared the news in a post on Instagram, revealing she would undergo surgery after work. “Today, after work, I’m having surgery — and I’m calling it exactly what it is. Reclaiming my uterus. 🤍,” she wrote.

Duplaix said she was sharing her experience to raise awareness, adding, “Four years ago a doctor told me my only option was a full hysterectomy.”

She said she declined the recommendation at the time, but described the physical toll that followed. “I waited — and that waiting came with real suffering. Heavy bleeding. Uncertainty. A blood transfusion. Regular iron infusions. Managing with anxiety and stress, just pushing through,” she wrote.

Duplaix said that with support from a friend, she eventually sought another medical opinion. She shared that a new gynecologist identified a polyp, which she described as “the biggest culprit,” and one that could be treated without a hysterectomy.

She concluded her post by encouraging women to advocate for their health and seek additional medical opinions when needed. “Women — please hear me. Fibroids, polyps & cyst grow inside us with no warning and no clear reason. Our bodies are still being researched and studied. Medicine does not always have all the answers, and the first answer you’re given is not always the right one. Go to your gynecologist regularly. Ask questions. Get second opinions. Do not let anyone make a permanent decision about your body before every option has been explored. You deserve that. Your body deserves that,” she wrote.

She ended her message on an uplifting note, writing, “Today I take mine back. 🤍🙏🏼”

This Florida Gem is Celebrating a Century of Barefoot Luxury

Sat, 03/28/2026 - 5:10am

If you’re looking to trade the winter slush for a dose of "barefoot luxury," there is no better time to put Sarasota on your 2026 travel map. While Florida is full of sunshine, Sarasota offers a rare "vintage-meets-modern" energy—a place where you can spend your morning in a world-class gallery and your afternoon kayaking through mangroves or walking the iconic Ringling Bridge.

According to Brian Hersh, CEO of the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County, the region is currently hitting a remarkable cultural high. "Sarasota offers this incredible duality—small-town charm with big-city amenities," Hersh explains. Winfred van Workum, General Manager ofThe St. Regis Longboat Key Resort, agrees that the area defines refined relaxation. "Sarasota defines barefoot luxury," van Workum says. "It delivers a refined yet relaxed sense of luxury that today’s discerning travelers seek."

In 2026, Sarasota is celebrating a wave of 100th anniversaries, including the historic Sarasota Opera House, the legendary Ca' d'Zan (the Ringling mansion) and Art Center Sarasota. As Hersh puts it: "It's like watching a century's worth of cultural investment come into focus all at once... some people are just now discovering what's always been here, kind of like vinyl making a comeback." The city is celebrating with a "Centennial Season" of special concerts and exhibitions that make every block feel like a piece of living history. Here is your insider guide to the best of Sarasota this spring:

Where to Stay: Seaplanes and Circus Chic View this post on Instagram

Sarasota’s hotel scene is leaning into its unique heritage with a sophisticated flair, offering everything from high-design boutiques to ultra-luxury beachfront escapes.

  • The St. Regis Longboat Key Resort: For those seeking the ultimate arrival, you can now "arrive by seaplane directly into Sarasota Bay" via a partnership with Tropic Ocean Airways. Once on property, you can explore a 500,000-gallon saltwater lagoon where marine biologists are currently introducing new spotted eagle rays.
  • Cirque St. Armands Beachside: This new standout on Lido Key blends "circus-town charm with real elegance." The design is a whimsical mix of Art Deco and Big Top—think ostrich feather chandeliers and pinstriped columns.
  • The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota: For the classic standard of excellence, you can't beat the Ritz, which is celebrating 25 years in the city. Van Workum notes that "what really sets it apart is access to the Beach Club," allowing guests to toggle between downtown energy and private Gulf-side lounging.
Things to Do: From Mangroves to Masterpieces

While the city is famous for Siesta Key Beach, locals often gravitate toward Lido Beach or the "quiet, unspoiled backdrop" of Longboat Key Beach. For a deeper immersion in nature, Hersh recommends a kayak tour through the mangroves or a visit to The Bay Park. If you’re feeling adventurous, head south to Venice’s Caspersen Beach to hunt for prehistoric shark teeth. At the St. Regis, guests can even snorkel and explore thousands of marine creatures with its Under the Sea Lagoon experience, getting up close with stingrays and puffer fish. Of course, no trip is complete without a stop at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, which van Workum calls "absolutely astounding."

Where to Eat: Hyperlocal and Award-Winning

Sarasota’s dining scene is currently defined by creativity and quality. Indigenous is the "must-book" spot for award-winning, hyperlocal sustainable seafood, while Baker and Wife is a favorite for showcasing the region’s creative culinary talent. Inside the St. Regis, CW Prime has recently debuted a new menu under head chef Drew Adams, who van Workum says has brought "such a charismatic, elevated approach to the restaurant." For a classic Sarasota experience outside the resorts, Michael’s on East has undergone beautiful recent renovations, and Veronica’s in South Side Village remains the go-to for an "elusive date-night."

Can’t-Miss Shops and Stops

For the best browsing, head to the historic Palm Avenue to explore its legendary galleries, or wander through St. Armands Circle to visit boutiques like The Met. If you’re looking for a hidden gem, Hersh recommends 502 Gallery in Burns Court, which champions local creators. For a stylish souvenir, stop by the Vilebrequin boutique at the St. Regis to snag their bespoke, circus-inspired print. Before you head home, grab a morning bite at Bread Bandits—Hersh is a "loyalist through and through"—or visit Le Shop in St. Armands for a sophisticated coffee break.

‘Brady Bunch’ Star Recalls On-Set ‘Tension’ While Filming Classic ‘70s Sitcom

Sat, 03/28/2026 - 5:04am

In the 1970s, the cast members of The Brady Bunch were like family, both on and off camera. Starring Robert Reed, Florence Henderson, Barry Williams, Maureen McCormick, Christopher Knight, Eve Plumb, Mike Lookinland, Susan Olsen, and Ann B. Davis, the beloved sitcom about a blended family aired from 1969 to 1974 on ABC.

All of the Brady family‘s issues were wrapped up in 22-minute episodes. But behind the scenes, there was drama between series lead Reed and show creator Sherwood Schwartz. Fans first got wind of the tension when  Williams, who played eldest son Greg on the show, wrote about it in his book, Growing Up Brady. Williams shared several manifestos that Reed sent to Schwartz to complain about unrealistic storylines.

In a March 2026 interview with Woman’s World, Plumb, who played Jan Brady on the show, said the squabbles didn’t greatly affect the rest of the cast.

“We knew there was tension,” she said. “You’d hear the door slam, and then we’d go on and do something else. It’s like it is in any family—when there’s discord, you figure out a way to get through it.”

Plumb focused more on the feeling of “safety and of respect” with TV mom Henderson and the “professional and pleasant” moments she shared with Reed.

“People always want secrets,” Plumb added. “And I didn’t get a big publisher [for my memoir, Happiness Included href="https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/804738/happiness-included-by-eve-plumb/" target="_blank"]  because I wasn’t throwing anybody under the bus.”

Sherwood Schwartz revealed why he clashed with Reed

Schwartz was vocal about his issues with Reed, which stemmed from the actor’s past as a theater actor.

“My main problem was with the father. He never should have been on the show to begin with,” Schwartz told Retrocrush in an interview. “He thought of himself as a major actor. He was spoiled because he was in a Shakespeare company in England, and he felt he was above TV in general, officially sitcoms.  … I didn’t know all of this background …But Paramount had a deal with Robert Reed."

In a lengthy interview for the  Television Academy Foundation, Schwartz described Reed as “a pain in the neck” on set. “He considered television beneath him. He wasn't too happy about that,” Schwartz said. “He was fairly young at that time, and to be the father of six kids was the last thing he wanted in the whole world. So he and I never got along at all.”

“We were at loggerheads all the time,” the Brady Bunch producer continued. “His one passion was accuracy in a script. He never had a problem with the humor, never had a problem with the drama, of which there was considerable in The Brady Bunch. Accuracy was stamped on his forehead.  If a writer got the population of Poughkeepsie wrong in the script, he'd walk off the set, not tell you why, because he looked everything up in his Encyclopedia Britannica or someplace.”

While Schwartz tried to protect the child actors on the show from the on-set drama, Reed famously refused to appear in what would be the final Brady Bunch episode over his issues with the far-fetched script. When he showed up to watch the shoot, Schwartz felt uncomfortable but refused to call security in front of the kid actors, he told the Television Academy Foundation.

Florence Henderson helped Robert Reed get through difficult on-set situations

Reed had a close friend in Henderson, who played his wife, Carol, on The Brady Bunch. In an interview with the Ashbury Park Press, Henderson revealed that she helped Reed get through some of the on-set disagreements.

"He and I were always great friends," she said in the interview, per MeTV. "I could always get Bob to calm down, kind of smooth things over."

"I don't think he ever did things with great malice," The Brady Bunch star added. "I just think that was Bob's way of doing things, and I accepted him that way."

4 Core Traits of People Born on the 30th, Per Numerology

Sat, 03/28/2026 - 4:34am

Did you know that your birth date is significant? Your birth date represents your core personality traits, challenges, and so much more based on numerology. According to numerologists, each birth date is made up of one to three numerological energies. So, if you’re born on the 30th, you embody the numerological meanings of 3 and 0. This means you’re a curious, creative soul who isn’t afraid to tear something down and try again. Read on to discover the numerological significance of 30, challenges to watch for, and four core personality traits that define you.

The Numerological Significance of Number 30

Finding the numerological significance of 30 is easy. Break down 30 into single-digit numbers, which would be 3 and 0.

The distinct energy of 3 represents curiosity, exploration, and communication. 3 is upbeat and exciting, so nothing deters this number. Pairing this with 0 amplifies the overall exuberance, hope, and faith. After all, 0 is a highly transformative number that represents limitless possibilities. This means that individuals who align with 30 are open-minded and expansive. They believe that anything is possible, so nothing is off-limits. They’re always down for a new adventure if it means expanding their perspective, learning something new, and honing their creative talents.

People who embody 30’s energy also work with its planetary ruler Jupiter. Astrologers say that Jupiter is the great benefic, so this planet has inherently positive qualities and attributes. Jupiterian individuals are known for having a strong moral compass and belief system. Having faith gives them the confidence to explore new horizons and dive into exciting adventures. They may feel called to a crystal like Labradorite, since this assists with gentle transformation and intuitive clarity.

Challenges to Watch For

Luck usually finds those born on the 30th, but they still experience difficulties like everyone else. People with this birth date struggle with lack of balance. They’re exciting, venturesome individuals who are always on the go. They could accidentally land themselves in hot water by pursuing hardcore, intense adventures. However, this can also mean that they struggle with finishing what they started. They could walk away from endeavors in search of something better, so they could leave a lot of unfinished projects and goals in their wake. They might also struggle with biting off more than they can chew. Overconsumption, over-indulgence, and overbooking are common struggles for people with this birth date. A lot of their challenges will be non-existent once they find balance.

Core Personality Traits of Those Born on the 30th1. Endlessly Transformative

People born on the 30th aren’t afraid to start over. Most might be afraid to let something go or end a cycle, but not these people. They’re excited by the prospect of starting anew. Unlike others, they welcome a death and rebirth cycle because that means something better is just around the corner. Starting fresh, trying something new, and rising from the ashes is what they do best. They feel their very best when they have a chance to start over. Whether they’re trying again or doing something else, they’re ready for the adventure.

    2. Optimistic & Enthusiastic

Everyone born on the 30th shares a positive attitude and mindset. Being Jupiterian means believing that the best has yet to come. They truly believe that they can get through anything as long as they approach matters with a smile on their face. They always see the silver lining in their situation. No matter the circumstances, these individuals know that enthusiasm makes a world of a difference. Their upbeat energy is infectious. People with this birth date inspire their loved ones to keep calm and carry on.

      3. Guided by Faith

If anyone believes in the impossible, it’s someone who’s born on the 30th. Individuals with this birth date are known for having a strong belief system. Some may find solace in their religious beliefs and ideologies, while others may feel strongly connected with their spirituality. Almost all people with this birth date have a strong moral compass that influences their ambition, decisions, and attitude. Regardless of what they believe in, they have confidence in their journey thanks to their unwavering faith.

        4. Enterprising & Creative

What can someone born on the 30th create? Having this birth date means being insanely creative. People born on this date are known for their talents, skills, and vision. They see beyond their nose, so they can envision the end result of their hard work and ambition. Not only can they see how far an idea can take them, but they also know what tools and abilities the creative journey will demand. Even if they’ve never accomplished something quite like this before, their passion and curiosity will fuel their creative visions.

I Got a First Look at the New Norwegian Luna–Here’s What Impressed Me Most

          Sat, 03/28/2026 - 4:10am

I am currently sailing on the christening cruise for Norwegian’s newest ship, the NCL Luna. This is incredibly exciting for me, because I was actually a performer for Norwegian Cruise Line for five years. I used to live at sea for up to eight months at a time, and getting back onboard feels like going back home–even if it’s a completely new ship! The Luna is the newest ship in NCL’s next-generation Prima class, with its sister ship being the NCL Aqua, which made its debut last year.

Since I’ve primarily sailed on older NCL ships (including one of its originals, the Norwegian Sun), I was extremely excited to see how the newer, more modern ship would feel. Immediately when entering the atrium, I knew that I was in for a completely different experience. Instead of feeling like a classic cruise ship, with the same chairs and tables copied and pasted all over the main area, it felt like a chic hotel. The style of the ship is very modern, however it’s still cozy and inviting. There are sleek light fixtures, interestingly designed chairs, and fun pops of color throughout the design as well.

Marc Kazlauskas, the President of Norwegian Cruise Line, said at the Christening Ceremony, “It’s not just a cruise ship, she is a world class resort at sea. She is a playground, she is a collection of experiences. Food, music, energy, quiet moments, stacked deck by deck into something that feels alive.” This quote alone got me feeling very excited, so let’s go through the ship together and I’ll tell you what I actually experienced.

On deck 8 of the Norwegian Luna, there is an area called Ocean Boulevard. This is a completely new design unique to the next-generation Prima class ships. It’s an outdoor area that extends the perimeter of the ship, with large walkable paths and various areas to enjoy. One thing that I noticed while living onboard ships is that the main places to enjoy outdoor areas tend to be up on the pool deck–which can be very crowded.

Ocean Boulevard provides a nice escape from the crowded pool deck, but guess what–there are actually small pools here as well! There are infinity pools on both the starboard and port side, and there are also large lounge beds that have shallow pools of water around them. If you want to enjoy the outdoors but prefer to stay in the shade, there are sections of Ocean Boulevard that are completely covered, so that could be a perfect spot to read a book or relax and take a rest.

          Staterooms

My stateroom onboard this cruise was in the Haven Balcony Penthouse, which is a premier area for guests. This room is spacious, has tons of storage for all of your belongings, and has tons of plugs to charge all of your electronics. I did sail on the NCL Aqua, which is Luna’s sister ship, and I stayed in a regular balcony cabin on that visit. In all honestly, I didn’t find the Haven Balcony Penthouse to be much different. The regular balcony cabins still had a ton of storage space, a large balcony, a sitting area, and places to charge your devices. The main difference is that there is a little more open surface area in the Haven, and the shower is slightly bigger. When it comes to rooms at sea, however, I feel like the Luna provides ample space no matter what type of room you’re staying in.

Haven Penthouse Balcony Cabin on the Norwegian Luna

          Melissa Cabey

In total, the NCL Luna has 1,809 regular staterooms, which includes Club Balcony Suites, Balcony, Oceanview, Inside, and Studio. There are 36 Suites and Penthouses as well, which can accommodate up to four people. Finally, there’s the Haven–Norwegian’s exclusive area where guests staying in a Haven room can receive concierge and butler service, private dining, and exclusive areas to relax in. There are 153 Haven rooms onboard the Luna.

          Restaurants, Bars and Lounges

Since I’m used to smaller ships, the offerings on the Norwegian Luna definitely excited me. There are 12 public bars scattered throughout the ship, and many offer more than just bar service. At Swirl Wine Bar, for example, you can browse through a variety of types of wine on a tablet, and also talk with your waiter to find the best glass of wine for you. It’s a chic, intimate bar that not many people tend to congregate in, so if you’re looking for a quiet place to enjoy a glass of wine, this is perfect.

For restaurants, there are five complimentary dining options that include two sit-down dining rooms, a pub and indulge food hall–which I wish with my whole being I had when I was working on cruise ships. This food hall completely takes you out of the “cruise ship” world, and instead it feels like you’re at a trendy food hall in a bustling city. There are varieties of different cuisines to order from here, including Indian, vegetarian, tapas, barbecue, Asian noddles, and more. You don’t have to stick to one cuisine, either, you can order as many plates from as many different areas as you want right on a tablet at your table.

Indulge food hall onboard NCL Luna

          Melissa Cabey

There are also a ton of specialty dining options, which do cost extra, however in my opinion I think trying out one or two of them is definitely worth it. There are eight different restaurants that cover a variety of cuisines, from Italian, French, American steakhouse, and even teppanyaki. Many of the restaurants onboard the Luna are also available on the other NCL ships fleet wide, however there are two restaurants that are completely new to me: Sukothai and Palomar. I was able to get a reservation at Palomar, which is Mediterranean seafood, however that’s not until later in my voyage, so I can't give any opinions just yet.

For my first evening onboard, I ate at one of the main dining rooms onboard, Hudson's. The menu and offerings are the same when compared to the other ships in Norwegian’s fleet. I, personally, have always loved the dining room on Norwegian, and have found that I’m able to modify and get exactly what I want from the menu options. Here on the Luna, the staff was incredibly accommodating, and even had a gluten-free cake made for me because I can’t eat gluten. I did enjoy the ambiance of the dining room, as it had large windows that provided sweeping views, gold ornate chandeliers, and an intimate vibe even though it's such a large ship.

          Entertainment

Coming from someone who performed for Norwegian’s main stage productions for years, I am very critical when it comes to onboard entertainment. Over the years, the company has scaled back on its large Broadway shows–which I must admit is very disappointing. Onboard the NCL Luna, there are a few shows offered that are unique to this ship.

ELTON show on the Norwegian Luna

          Melissa Cabey

First is Rocket Man: A Celebration of Elton John. This was conceived just for Norwegian Cruise Line (I can attest, all of the performers for the company were vying for a spot in this creative process). I will be doing a full review of the show once I see it–so stay tuned! There is also HIKO: Innovation Meets Wonder, which is specifically inspired by the celestial style of the ship. This show features futuristic technical aspects, a full cast of performers, and a storyline to follow for the audience.

There are other performances to see around the ship, too, like Syd Norman’s Pour House, which is one of my favorites. I’ve seen various productions of Syd Norman’s on other NCL ships, and I always have a great time. It’s made up of a group of singers who do tribute sets to various musical artists or styles. On the Luna, there is an Eagles tribute show performed by them, which I’m excited to see. There is also a special show that costs extra onboard, an adult-only production called LunaTique Pop Circus. I will be covering a review of that show as well, so stay tuned.

          Other Activities To Enjoy Onboard

After being used to small sized ships, I am completely in awe of all of the things to do on the Norwegian Luna. Since there’s so much more space onboard, entire areas are dedicated to games, sports, rides and other forms of enjoyment. Up on the pool deck, there are two featured slides that can spice up your sea day. First is the Aqua Slidecoaster, which is part roller coaster, part water slide. I’ve been on this slide on the Norwegian Aqua, and I personally thought it was tons of fun. It goes extremely fast at first, and then the rest of the ride is smooth and relaxing. The other slide is a drop slide–which I won’t be partaking in. But, for thrill seekers out there, be my guest!

outdoor gaming area onboard Norwegian Luna

          Melissa Cabey

One of the areas onboard that I’m most excited about is The Stadium, which is an area full of games to play. This is completely free, and has games like ping pong, shuffle board, beer pong, and corn hole. On other cruise ships, including Norwegian as well as other cruise lines, these games tend to be scattered around the ship, and are near other passengers who are just walking past. On the Luna, it’s a dedicated gaming area. There are chairs for people to watch or wait their turn, places to put your belongings, and lots of shade. I spent my first afternoon playing games in this area, and felt like it was a great addition to the ship for both adults and children.

Kiran Smith, Chief Marketing Officer, said at the christening “From families with young children to older children, to couples, and for solos wanting a more elevated experience, Norwegian Luna is a perfect proof point.” I would say this sentiment rings true to what I saw onboard activity wise, there's truly something for everyone.

'The Godfather' Icon Declined His Oscars Award 53 Years Ago

          Sat, 03/28/2026 - 2:26am

March 27, 1973, marked a historic moment in Hollywood history when legendary actor Marlon Brando turned down the Academy Award for Best Actor for his iconic role as Don Vito Corleone inThe Godfather

Brando sent activist Sacheen Littlefeather to the ceremony to read a statement protesting Hollywood's treatment of Native Americans.

“The motion picture community has been as responsible as any for degrading the Indian and making a mockery of his character, describing him as savage, hostile and evil,” Littlefeather told the audience, quoting Brando’s words, per History.

Brando’s refusal shocked the industry and remains one of the most talked-about moments in Oscars history. It was not only a personal statement but also a bold stand on social issues, supporting the American Indian Movement (AIM) and drawing attention to the situation at Wounded Knee, South Dakota, where Native American activists faced military intervention.

Marlon Brando as Don Vito Corleone in 'The Godfather, ' the based on the novel by Mario Puzo and directed by Francis Ford Coppola.

Photo by CBS via Getty Images

Brando is widely regarded as one of cinema’s greatest actors. He pioneered Method acting in Hollywood, creating raw and emotionally charged performances that transformed film acting.

He first drew attention with his Broadway role as Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire (1947), later reprised in the 1951 film adaptation, earning his first Oscar nomination. He won his first Academy Award for On the Waterfront (1954), delivering the legendary line, “I coulda been a contender.”

Brando’s career experienced highs and lows. While he dominated 1950s Hollywood, the 1960s brought flops like One-Eyed Jacks (1961) and Mutiny on the Bounty (1962), alongside on-set clashes and personal struggles. His casting as Vito Corleone in The Godfather (1972) was nearly derailed, as director Francis Ford Coppola fought to secure him for the role.

Brando cut his fee to $250,000, far below his previous demands, and passed a screen test, ultimately revitalizing his career with one of film’s most iconic performances.

Released in 1972 and adapted from Mario Puzo’s 1969 bestselling novel, The Godfather tells the story of the Corleone family, a fictional New York Mafia dynasty. Brando’s Don Vito Corleone navigates family loyalty, power struggles and revenge, while his youngest son Michael, played by Al Pacino, gradually takes over the family business.

Memorable lines like “I’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse” have become embedded in popular culture.

The Godfather swept critical acclaim, earning multiple Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor and Best Writing. Despite Brando’s refusal, the film remains a cultural touchstone and continues to influence filmmakers, actors and audiences decades later.

Brando was known for activism beyond the silver screen. He publicly supported civil rights, Native American rights, animal protection and environmental causes. His Oscar protest was a continuation of these efforts, emphasizing Hollywood’s misrepresentation of Indigenous people.

At the 45th Academy Awards, when presenter Roger Moore attempted to hand the Oscar to Littlefeather, she declined on Brando’s behalf, reading a portion of his statement. This marked only the second time in history a Best Actor Oscar was turned down, following George C. Scott’s refusal for Patton in 1971.

In his later years, Brando took sporadic roles, including Apocalypse Now (1979) and The Score (2001), and even lent his voice to The Godfather: The Game (2006), though much of it was unusable due to his declining health.

Despite personal struggles, including weight and health issues, Brando remained a cinematic legend. He passed away in 2004 at age 80, leaving behind a legacy of revolutionary acting and social activism.

Brando’s influence lives on in Hollywood and beyond. Colleagues like Al Pacino and Robert De Niro continue to honor his contributions, describing him as a fearless performer who changed the art of acting forever.

This Can't Miss Scenic Spot Just Under an Hour from Vegas Will Have You Feeling Like You're in Another World

          Sat, 03/28/2026 - 12:45am

Chances are that when you think about Nevada, you think of Las Vegas. And it's likely that nothing else come to mind when you're thinking about Sin City other than the brightly lit strip that illuminates the desert it calls home.

But, visitors who want to head to Nevada may want to add another stop to their trip, and try visiting a town about an hour outside of Vegas known as Mt. Charleston. The area has plenty for adults and kids alike, and it's perfect for those who are looking to beat the summer heat while still enjoying some of the natural beauty of Nevada's landscapes.

Located less than an hour from the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas, Mt. Charleston almost feels like it's on the other side of the world. Unlike Vegas, the region has a lot of alpine features, which offer visitors some much needed shade and cooler temperatures.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Mt. Charleston has the highest elevation in the southern part of the state, and it sits around 11,918 feet. This is why the weather and temperature can vary so greatly between here and the desert valley below, with temperatures varying between three and five degrees for every thousand feet.

The mountain sees all four season, so there's no wrong time to visit if you love the great outdoors. In the winter you'll get to experience cold and snow, which is great for those who love to ski. Then in the warmer months, you'll get to watch as the greenery and colorful blooms return to the region, giving hikers a beautiful backdrop while they explore some of the 50 miles of maintained trails.

In the fall, leaf peepers will definitely have a blast, since this is one of the only places in southern Nevada where you can find naturally grown aspen trees. These trees usually put on their best show in the last two weeks of September, according to the NWS, and they can continue to shine all the way through to mid-October.

Where to Stay When Visiting Mt. Charleston

The region is a popular spot for travelers, and you'll have plenty of places to choose from when you plan your stay. Those who want to be close to the action may opt to stay at The Retreat on Charleston Peak, which is located in Kyle Canyon. Here you'll find amenities like:

          • On-site dining at the restaurant restaurant and bar
          • Access to outdoor firepits

What is The Way Home about?

The family drama tells the story of Kat Landry (Chyler Leigh), her teenaged daughter Alice (Sadie Laflamme-Snow) and Kat’s estranged mother Del (Andie MacDowell), who are all strong, willful and independent women. More than 20 years prior, life-changing events created a chasm in their family that time has yet to repair. Kat and Del still aren’t on speaking terms. Alice has never met her grandmother and is unaware of the reasons for their fractured family. When these three generations come together under one roof for the first time in more than two decades, a surprising discovery sets the trio on a path toward healing and helps them find their way back to each other.

What happened in Season 1 of The Way Home?

In the first season of The Way Home, Alice discovered she could travel through time after she accidentally fell into a pond on her grandmother's property in Port Haven, New Brunswick, Canada. The pond somehow transported Alice back to the late 1990s/early 2000s when her mother, Kat (Alex Hook), was a teen. There she befriends a teenaged Kat and her good friend Elliot (David Webster) and meets her grandfather Colton (Jefferson Brown), who had died before Alice was born. While back in time, Alice tries to unravel the mystery of her uncle Jacob's (Remy Smith) disappearance.

In the present day, Alice's mother, Kat (Leigh), also discovers the secrets of the pond, and time travels back to a time when both her father and brother were still alive. Determined to save both of their lives, Kat attempts to alter history but her attempts are futile. Present-day Elliot (Evan Williams), who has known about the time traveling pond and Alice since he was a teen, is able to finally share this knowledge to Kat and also reveal his long-standing crush for her.

By season's end, Kat discovers that her brother Jacob must have fallen into the pond and is in another time. She jumps into the pond again and travels back to 1814. Upon her arrival in 1814, Kat is shot by a man named Thomas Coyle (Kris Holden-Ried). Kat discovers Jacob (Spencer Macpherson) is now an adult and engaged to be married to Susanna (Watson Rose), the healer that has been tending to Kat's wounds. In her haste to reach Jacob, she causes him to be captured.

What happened in Season 2 of The Way Home?

Distraught that he has been captured by men who she believes to be British soldiers, Kat discovers he has actually been imprisoned by Cyrus Goodwin (Tim Post), who owns the mansion later known as Lingermore. With the help of Susanna and Thomas, they are able to rescue Jacob, but he is gravely ill and on the verge of death. As Susanna tends to him, Kat goes back and forth in time.

Del captures a horse that has been roaming on the Landry land, but it turns out the horse belongs to her handsome new neighbor, Sam (Rob Stewart). At first, she doesn't want to have anything to do with him, ignoring her attraction to him, but he persists and they go out on a date. She struggles with letting her memories of Colton (Jefferson Brown) go so she can move on.

Alice struggles with feeling comfortable both in the past when she time-travels and with feeling normal in the present day. She finds herself attracted to Noah (Alexander Eling), a new coffee shop patron, and it seems like he's attracted to her as well. They spend some time together. At one point, they start lip syncing a Backstreet Boys song together and she kisses him but he practically runs away. Meanwhile, Nick (Kerry James) visits New Haven and hears Alice singing. He recognizes it as his Alice from decades ago! This leaves him thoroughly confused. Nick later finds Elliot's journal chronicling his days in the past with Alice and her time travels. When he confronts Elliot and Kat about it, they admit the truth to him, which leaves him even more confused.

Elliot sits on the sidelines most of the season, with a sprinkling of passionate kisses with Kat here and there. But Kat's attention is back in 1814, with Jacob's well-being and–let's admit it–on the handsome Thomas Coyle. By season's end, Kat looks at the records and learns Thomas was killed by British soldiers. Leaving Elliot once again, Kat races back to say one last goodbye to Thomas, learning that he traded his life for Jacob's wellbeing. He tells her to leave and gives her some coins and tells her not to look back. As she reluctantly walks away, she hears a shot ring out as tears pour down her face.

Back in present day, Elliot has a theory that the time traveler must be a Landry and that one can only travel to the past and not to the future, which is why a young Elliot was not able to follow Alice to the future, nor why Susanna could not travel back to the present with Kat. He theorizes that as long as a Landry is with them, someone could travel back in time. They put it to the test when Alice and Elliot jump into the pond and end up in 2007, on the eve of Elliot and Kat's high school graduation. Colton is still alive and hires Elliot (who doesn't say his name) to help him with some handywork. It gives Elliot some closure and one last chance to spend with Colton, who was the father figure he didn't really have with his own father.

Upon her return, Elliot seems more interested in the coins Kat has brought back with her. He takes a picture. Del signs the paperwork to sell the land to the Goodwins, but the sale is pulled when Casey Goodwin (Vaughan Murrae) comes with a message that her family has decided not to go through with the sale. Alice catches a glimpse of a ring hanging on a necklace Casey wears. It's the same ring Alice has in her possession! What does this mean? Who gave Casey that ring?

Saddened by the loss of Thomas, Kat heads to the pond to reflect. Jacob comes up from the pond. He's ready to return home - present day home. As the two siblings head home, Jacob tells her Thomas is still alive and was wearing armor that he traded some of his bootleg rum to get. Kat also learns that it was Susanna who painted the portrait of her and not Thomas, as she originally thought. In the final scene, we see Colton and a young Jacob at the fire on the night of Kat and Elliot's high school graduation. It's the same POV we saw earlier when Elliot had traveled back in time, but when the man watching them turns around it's Colton not Elliot!

What happened in Season 3 of The Way Home?

Jacob Landry returned to the present after 25 years in the 1800s, leading the family to embrace the truth about the time-traveling pond. Del took her first time-traveling dip in the pond, witnessing her wedding to Colton while Kat and Elliot reunite and work through their past issues.

We learned that Elliot was the baby in the basket and Colton knew about the time travel and recognized Alice back in 1999.

The season ended with a mysterious couple jumping into the pond in the 1970s and Sam (Rob Stewart) mirroring Elliot's earlier role at the pond in the present.

What will happen in Season 4 of The Way Home?

New journeys and revelations await the Landry family across generations. At the beginning of Season 4, Alice is about to graduate high school, Kat and Elliot dream of the next steps for their relationship while Del realizes she will soon be an empty-nester again. But Del, Kat, Alice and Elliot should know by now that no matter how hard they try to focus on the future, the past is never gone. As more mysteries are unearthed, the Port Haven of the past and the Landry family of generations before might just contain the answers they seek.

What can we expect in Season 4 of The Way Home?

Season 4 of The Way Home should be as much of a whirlwind as the past three seasons. We imagine we'll learn more about Sam Bishop (Stewart), why he's in Port Haven, and what his interest in the pond is. We're likely to learn more about the connection between Casey Goodwin (Murrae) and the Landrys. Hopefully, this will be the season Kat and Elliot finally commit themselves to each other. But it seems more likely they'll break up again a few times before they step forward with their relationship. We'll learn more about Colton's ties to the past, present, and future and perhaps learn exactly how much he does know about the pond and its powers. Alice will likely have to make a decision between Noah (Alexander Eling) and Max (Dale Whibley). Jacob will have to make a decision as to which time period he is best suited for. Should he stay or should he go? How will that affect his mother, Del?

Where does The Way Home film?

          Who produces The Way Home?

How many episodes of The Way Home are there?

There are 10 episodes in each of the three seasons of The Way Home. No episode count has been released. But we expect Season 4 will also be 10 episodes long.

This new version is sports-specific, however, as a partnership between The New York Times and The Athletic.

As the NYT site instructs, for Connections Sports Edition, you "group sports terms that share a common thread."

          Fri, 03/27/2026 - 11:45pm

Move over, WordleConnections, Connections Sports Edition, and Mini Crossword—there’s a new NYT word game in town! The New York Times' recent game, "Strands," is becoming increasingly popular as another daily activity fans can find on the NYT website and app.

With daily themes and "spangrams" to discover, this is the latest addictive game to cross off your to-do list before a new one pops up 24 hours later.

We'll cover exactly how to play Strands, hints for today's Spangram, and all of the answers for Strands #755 on Saturday, March 28.

          How to Play Strands

          The New York Times

According to the New York Times, here's exactly how to play Strands:

Find theme words to fill the board.

          • Theme words stay highlighted in blue when found.
          • Drag or tap letters to create words. If tapping, double-tap the last letter to submit.
          • Theme words fill the board entirely. No theme words overlap.

          Find the “spangram.”

          • The spangram describes the puzzle's theme and touches two opposite sides of the board. It may be two words.
          • The spangram highlights in yellow when found.
          • An example spangram with corresponding theme words: PEAR, FRUIT, BANANA, APPLE, etc.

          Need a hint?

          • Find non-theme words to get hints.
          • For every three non-theme words you find, you earn a hint.
          • Hints show the letters of a theme word. If there is already an active hint on the board, a hint will show that word's letter order.
