GTR, the progressive rock band, earned a lasting place in rock history after being named among the greatest supergroups.

Bringing together members of highly influential bands is an ambitious feat, but only a few supergroups have made a mark on rock music.

From the blues hard rock band Cream to Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Temple of the Dog securing the top three spots, Louder Sound named GTR one of the 20 greatest rock supergroups of all time.

Described by the outlet as a "short-lived mid-80s supergroup," GTR was formed by Yes and Asia guitarist Steve Howe and fellow musician Steve Hackett, formerly of Genesis.

At the time, Howe had recently left Asia and wanted to create a group that would highlight guitars at the center of its music, hence the band name GTR, a common abbreviation for the instrument.

With a shared vision of creating a guitar-driven band, the two completed the lineup by recruiting Nightwing and Bronz vocalist Max Bacon alongside Toyah's Phil Spalding on bass and Jonathan Mover on drums.

It was in 1986 when they released their debut single, "When the Heart Rules the Mind," which became a huge hit after reaching No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100.

As for their first album, GTR introduced its self-titled debut studio album that same year.

"We were interested in lots of different kinds of music – everything from flamenco to country music – but I think we were trying to make an accessible, rather than impenetrable album," Hackett told Ultimate Classic Guitar, referring to their debut album. "and indeed, it gained a lot of young teenage listeners, right across the board. So we were very lucky to pick that up, considering that we had both come out of very male-orientated listening camps. The people that were into Genesis, at least during the time when I was part of the band in the ‘70s, were mainly male, and I think the same thing [was true] for Yes. It proved that it was possible to cross over and change people’s ideas of what the guitar could do.”

The iconic guitarist revealed that the band spent about two years working on the album, with much of that time spent writing songs and finalizing the lineup, while recording took another nine months.

The album was a commercial success, achieving high sales, and the band even embarked on a U.S. tour with Matt Clifford on keyboards throughout the run.

Two years after forming the supergroup, GTR officially disbanded due to internal issues and Hackett's sudden exit.

In the same report by UCR, Hackett said he knew that the band would never be a "long-term project" for him.

"I realized that it had novelty value. People were going to go out and buy the first album because they wanted to hear what the combination of Genesis and Yes and Asia might sound like. So it was a coming together of separate careers and backgrounds. You know, beyond that, I thought, ‘Everyone’s going to be interested in the first record, but I don’t think anyone’s going to be interested in the second record.’ We had one successful single and the second single flopped and the writing was on the wall.”

On the other hand, Howe believed that the disbandment of GTR was not because of one major conflict but because he and Hackett had "different perspectives," as the latter preferred a more independent approach while Howe favored teamwork.

“However, I don’t blame him for what happened,” Howe added. “If anything, I was more to blame. Maybe I should have done more to accommodate Steve.”

Country music legend Alan Jackson has released a new song just two days before what is billed as the final full-length concert of his career. 

On Thursday, the Country Music Hall of Famer unveiled his version of "Still The One," a cover of the 1976 Orleans hit, as a tribute to his wife, Denise, ahead of his farewell performance at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.

Jackson shared the personal story behind the recording in a video announcing the release, revealing that the song has been tied to one of the earliest memories of their relationship.

“Fifty years ago in 1976, in Newnan, Georgia, I started dating this young girl. She was a cheerleader for Newnan High School,” Jackson said.

“One day, she went over to a friend’s house, a girlfriend’s house, and I went over there and hung out a while, and she was practicing her dance routine for the cheerleeding squad and the football game to a hit song that was a hit that summer called ‘Still The One,’ I think by a group called Orleans.”

Jackson continued by explaining why he chose to record the song now.

“I sat there and watched her, and three years later, I ended up marrying that young girl. She’s my wife today Denise. So in honor of 50 years ago, this has always been one of our old fond memories of our starting out days. Any time we hear that song, it brings back these memories. So in honor of the 50 years, I went into the studio and recorded that little pop song with some country seasoning, and I gave it to her for her birthday, ’cause she’s still the one.”

The release comes as Jackson prepares to close out a career that has lasted more than four decades. His farewell concert, titled Last Call: One More for the Road — The Finale, is scheduled for Saturday at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.

The timing of "Still The One" gives added meaning to Jackson's final performance. While the new release celebrates his relationship with Denise, it also arrives as he prepares to take the stage for the last full-length concert of his touring career.

Jackson first revealed in 2021 that he had been living with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT), a degenerative nerve disorder that affects coordination and balance. Although the condition is not life-threatening, it has made performing increasingly difficult and led to his decision to retire from touring.

His farewell show is expected to feature appearances by several country music stars, including Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Cody Johnson, Riley Green, Jon Pardi and Lee Ann Womack. The concert will later air on NBC and stream on Peacock, with a premiere date to be announced.

Jackson has previously said that retiring from touring does not mean he is retiring from music.

In a 2023 interview, he expressed hope that he would continue writing and recording songs, saying the creative process still inspires him.

Originally released by Orleans in 1976, "Still The One" reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song became part of Alan and Denise Jackson's story long before they married on Dec. 15, 1979.

The couple has now spent more than four decades together and raised three daughters: Mattie, Ali and Dani. Their relationship has also inspired several of Jackson's best-known songs, including "Remember When" and "I'd Love You All Over Again."

Although Jackson is widely recognized for writing many of his own hits, he has also found success recording cover songs throughout his career. His versions of "Mercury Blues," "Summertime Blues" and "Pop a Top" all became major country hits.

As Jackson prepares to perform one final full-length show, "Still The One" serves as both a tribute to the woman who has stood beside him since the beginning and a reminder that his creative journey may not be over.

"I watched that movie and read that book, and I was just like, 'Man,'" Shaboozey said in the recent episode of The BobbyCast. "I just think there's something fascinating about Harry's life to a kid, probably like us, that's just like — you feel really ordinary, you know? And you're kind of not looked at as much..."

He continues, "And you kind of attach yourself to a story like that, where a kid like me — who really doesn't feel like they have much going on or much of a talent or much of a story, or feels like they want to get out of the world they're in — meets or watches something like [Harry Potter]. And you're like, 'Oh no, like, I do feel extraordinary.'"

Lucky Starr helped turn it into a hit in 1962, giving it early momentum before it ever reached the American country mainstream.

But it was Snow’s version that helped anchor it in the U.S. country music landscape, giving the song a broader audience and a longer life than anyone likely expected at the time.

What makes "I’ve Been Everywhere" stand out isn’t just its novelty. It’s the sheer ambition of it.

When Disney released Cinderella in 1950, the studio was taking a major gamble.

After years of financial struggles during and after World War II, Walt Disney Productions needed a hit. What it got was something much bigger: a film that would become one of the most beloved animated classics of all time.

Based on the centuries-old fairy tale, Cinderella follows a young woman forced to live under the thumb of her cruel stepmother and stepsisters before a little magic (and a glass slipper) changes her life forever. Along the way, audiences met memorable characters including Cinderella, Prince Charming, the Fairy Godmother, Jaq and Gus, and, of course, Lucifer the cat.

The film quickly became a box-office success and helped restore Disney's financial footing at a critical moment in the company's history. It was the studio's first full-length animated feature released after a lengthy gap caused by the war years, and its success paved the way for future classics that would define Disney's next era.

But Cinderella's legacy extends far beyond its original release.

Over the decades, the film has been reintroduced to audiences through theatrical reissues, home video releases, streaming platforms, and special anniversary editions.

One of the most recent came in 2019, when Disney released the film as part of its Signature Collection, giving a new generation the chance to experience the story that captivated audiences nearly 70 years earlier.

The movie's influence can still be seen across popular culture today.

Songs like "A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes" remain instantly recognizable, while the image of Cinderella's castle has become one of the most enduring symbols associated with Disney itself.

The franchise also expanded well beyond the original film, inspiring sequels, television adaptations, merchandise, theme park attractions, and Disney's live-action Cinderella remake.

Perhaps what's most remarkable is how little the story's appeal has changed. While animation technology has evolved dramatically since 1950, audiences continue to connect with Cinderella's journey of perseverance, hope, and transformation.

More than seven decades after its debut, Cinderella remains one of Disney's defining films, and a reminder that some fairy tales never go out of style.

PenélopeCruz revealed that she has a bizarre hobby. 

Well, to her “it's normal,” but others are “shocked” when she tells them. 

The actress and her co-stars, OliviaWilde and SethRogen, of the upcoming film The Invite participated in a recent interview with The New Yorker. 

“When I was a little girl, I was always playing pretending to be a doctor,” Cruz shared. 

She would “inject” her “dolls” with “insulin needles from my grandmother.” Adding “that was the game for me.” 

“Maybe it's weird, I don't know,” she admitted. 

Cruz’s love of medical knowledge has followed her into adulthood. 

“For the last 12 years, I study medicine every night of my life,” she said.   

“You're an amateur doctor,” Rogen joked. While Wilde asked “You're studying to be a doctor?” 

“No, no, no, no, no, it's my hobby,” Cruz confirmed. 

The actress shared she reads “books that are this thick about the endocrine system and stuff like that makes me so happy, so happy, and every night probably, I don't know, five, six days a week for the last 12 years, I've been reading that for hours every night. And I love it. And I cannot explain why I love it.” 

Wilde and Rogen shared their unique hobbies as well. 

“It's not that obscure, I love miniatures. I'm a miniac,” Wilde said. 

The film’s star and director told her co-stars that she has a miniature version of the original Seinfeld set. 

While Rogen said "I don't have that many weird hobbies,” but that he does enjoy pottery. 

The Invite takes place during a dinner party that goes wrong after a couple invite their strange neighbours. The movie is an adaptation of the 2020 Spanish-language film The People Upstairs.

The Invite has a limited theatrical release starting June 26 and opens nationwide July 10.

Fans are criticizing the independent entertainment and production company A24 after it announced a $75 million research partnership with DeepMind, Google's AI lab.

The company behind hit films such as MartySupreme, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Moonlight, Uncut Gems, and Midsommar is known for its unique storytelling and marketing. 

“This is a research partnership,” Sophia Shin, A24 communications rep, told WIRED in an email. “We're working side-by-side with DeepMind's researchers to learn, iterate, and build, having an active hand in shaping new tools and workflows.”

A24 announced the collaboration on Monday. Through the deal, the production company will gain access to DeepMind’s research and tools.

“Our relationship with our audience is something we don't take for granted,” Shin added. “This partnership exists because we want to dictate what tools get built for artists, and so they have a voice in shaping them rather than having tools handed to them. We'd rather have a seat at the table than on the sidelines.”

The company is known for its groupie-like fans. Enthusiasts proudly sport merch with A24 or their films displayed.

The deal has not gone over well with their audience. In a recent Instagram post promoting the studio’s upcoming film, The Invite, users flooded the comment section with disappointment. 

“Congratulations A24. You lost the support of a generation and movement that will only continue to grow.” one user wrote. Another commented, “Pull the deal with Google and all will be forgiven. Listen to your audience, we don’t want AI.”

“Truth is we don't necessarily love any of the current AI outputs onscreen in Hollywood,” Shin shared. “I don't even know if ultimately we'd create tech on that front. This partnership is about learning and helping pain points in workflows behind the scenes more than anything else.”

Google will not be able to access A24’s content library or data, and filmmakers are not required to use AI tools.

Five Finger Death Punch, the heavy metal and hard rock band, is proving that it has no plans to slow down.

Fronted by Ivan Moody on lead vocals, Chris Kael on bass, Charlie Engen on drums, Andy James on guitar and guitarist and co-founder Zoltan Bathory, the band announced the release of a new album.

In an Instagram update, the band teased fans with a glimpse of its 10th studio album, Legacy.

The hard rock veterans are scheduled to release it digitally on July 31, while physical copies on vinyl, CDs and cassettes will arrive on Sept. 18.

Apart from announcing the soon-to-be-released album, Five Finger Death Punch also surprised fans with the release of a brand-new song.

The newly unveiled track, "De Oppresso Liber," serves as the band's second single, following "Eye Of The Storm," the lead single from its highly anticipated 10th studio album.

Following the announcement, Bathory shared the inspiration behind the record and the journey the band experienced while creating it.

“Every album is a snapshot of who we were at that particular moment in time, and Legacy is exactly what the title suggests,” he said, as cited by Consequence. “It’s a reflection on the journey, the lessons, the victories, the struggles, and everything we’ve experienced over the last two decades. What makes that journey meaningful is that we didn’t make it alone. We traveled this road alongside millions of fans around the world and somehow became part of each other’s lives. That’s an incredible thing to reflect on twenty years later.”

As for the vocalist, Moody expressed how “proud” the band is to have created a record that highlights its “milestone” and the achievements it has captured.

“At the same time, Legacy isn’t about looking backward. 20 years is a milestone, not a destination,” he added. “We’re incredibly proud of this record because it captures everything people love about Five Finger Death Punch while also pointing toward where we’re headed next. Our philosophy has always been that this journey doesn’t come with a self-imposed ceiling. Every goal we’ve reached simply revealed another horizon beyond it. We never believed the sky was the limit; if anything, it’s where the true journey begins. Here’s to our shared legacy."

The 10th studio album comes 21 years after Five Finger Death Punch was formed.

Bathory created the group in 2005 in Las Vegas, Nevada, after leaving his previous band, U.P.O. He was joined by former Motograter vocalist Ivan Moody and W.A.S.P. drummer Jeremy Spencer.

The band released its debut album, The Way of the Fist, in 2007 and has remained a dominant force in the metal scene ever since.

The recent study by Classic Football Shirts reveals that U.S. Google searches for "blokette" — the viral fashion trend of pairing masculine sportswear with hyper-feminine delicate clothing — have risen 4,950% in the past year alone, according to the company's recent news release, signaling that the vintage soccer jersey this summer is as much a fashion statement as a fan one.

In 1994, the U.S. hosted that summer's World Cup on home soil, reaching the Round of 16 — but it's what the team wore that’s trending again. The standout is the away shirt: a faux-denim print with oversized distressed white stars across a washed indigo base, finished with red trim at the collar and sleeves.

The denim design is so iconic that adidas, despite no longer holding the U.S. Soccer contract, reissued it in March 2026 as a full lifestyle collection: jersey, track jacket, shorts, cap and a special-edition denim Samba. The campaign featured 1994 squad members Alexi Lalas and Cobi Jones alongside musician Lil Dre — proof of the shirt's multigenerational appeal.

Three films ranked among the greatest movies ever made are finally coming together in a single collector's edition.

Criterion Collection has announced The Complete Kubrick, an unprecedented 30-disc 4K UHD and Blu-ray box set arriving Oct. 20 that brings together all 13 of legendary director Stanley Kubrick's feature films and three early short films for the first time.

The collection includes three films recognized by the American Film Institute among the 100 greatest American movies ever made: 2001: A Space Odyssey at No. 22, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb at No. 26 and A Clockwork Orange at No. 46.

The expansive set traces Kubrick's remarkable career from his earliest independent films through some of the most influential movies in cinema history. Along with newly restored 4K presentations, the collection includes each film's original soundtrack alongside remastered 5.1 surround sound mixes.

That sale, which runs through July 26, offers 50 percent off many Criterion releases and has become one of the retailer's most anticipated annual events for movie collectors.
