Inside Amanda Peet’s 20-Year Love Story With 'Game of Thrones' Creator David Benioff

Fri, 04/03/2026 - 3:16pm

On Your Friends & Neighbors, Amanda Peet plays ex-wife to Jon Hamm’s unraveling former hedge fund manager. In real life, she’s been married to Game of Thrones co-creator David Benioff for nearly 20 years.

When she and Benioff tied the knot in September 2006, Peet was arguably the more recognizable name, with roles in Something’s Gotta Give, A Lot Like Love and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Benioff, by contrast, was a behind-the-scenes novelist and screenwriter whose fame-making show was still five years off. (When Peet talked about their engagement on Late Night With Conan O’Brien, O’Brien didn’t even refer to Benioff, who’d by then written 25th Hour and Troy, by name; he called him “this guy.”)

The success of Game of Thrones turned Benioff into a household name in his own right, cementing the pair as a true Hollywood power couple.

These days, Peet’s career is the one getting buzz (not that it’s a competition!). Following TV roles in Fatal Attraction, Dirty John and Togetherness, she’s now starring in the Apple TV+ series Your Friends & Neighbors, which premieres its second season on April 3; and she’s returning to the big screen for the first time in a decade with Fantasy Life, playing a woman who falls for her nanny. The role has already earned her the Special Jury Award for Performance at the South by Southwest Film & TV Festival.

She also recently made headlines for sharing her breast cancer diagnosis, which coincided with the death of her parents, in a moving essay for The New Yorker. Reflecting on how the health scare impacted her relationship with her husband, she wrote, “There was a new sense of romance between us—we stole glances, squeezed each other’s hands. All our petty marital grievances evaporated, even when he merged onto the 405 like a lead-footed moron.”

The piece was a reminder to fans and a wakeup call to the uninitiated that, in addition to being an actress, Peet is a writer. Her work includes the Netflix miniseries The Chair, the children’s book Dear Santa, Love, Rachel Rosenstein and the play Our Very Own Carlin McCullough

Keep reading to learn more about Peet and Benioff’s relationship, from how they met to the way he’s influenced her career.

Who is Amanda Peet’s husband?

Amanda Peet has been married to David Benioff for nearly 20 years. The native New Yorkers were set up on a blind date by mutual friend and screenwriter Peter Blake.

What does Amanda Peet’s husband do for a living?

Oh, like you don’t know? Benioff is the co-creator of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Prior to making the Emmy-winning series, he wrote the novel/film 25th Hour, the novel City of Thieves and screenplays for Troy, The Kite Runner and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He also authored the story collection When the Nines Roll Over

After GoT ended in 2019, Benioff and creative partner D.B. Weiss signed a massive deal with Netflix and have so far co-created 3 Body Problem, an adaptation of Liu Cixin’s novels, and executive produced shows like The Chair, which Peet created with Annie Julia Wyman, and the historical drama miniseries Death by Lightning

Speaking to Rachael Ray about what it was like to be married to the creator of Game of Thrones, Peet once said, “It’s like being married to someone in the CIA, only not as important.” As a self-professed superfan of the show, she also admitted to going back and forth on whether she actually wanted spoilers. “I’m like, tell me, don’t tell me, tell me, don’t tell me!” she said.

Still, there was a time when Peet couldn’t be kept in the dark even if she wanted to be: Early on, she helped review scripts for the show. “I used to be one of the readers, to help Dan [Weiss] and David and be like, ‘This is sexist, take this out,’ or whatever,” she told Vanity Fair. “But now I don’t do that anymore. I want to be surprised. I just want to be a fan.”

How did Amanda Peet meet her husband, David Benioff?

The longtime couple was set up on a blind date by Peter Blake, a mutual friend and screenwriter, in 2002. “We liked each other, but it wasn’t, like, incredible,” she shared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. (She’d previously told Conan O’Brien that she didn’t like the way her future husband dressed.)

Still, they seemed to share a mischievous sense of humor: They hatched a plan for Peet to email their friend a bad review of the date. Among other things, she told him that Benioff was a “freak” who “couldn’t stop bawling about his ex-girlfriend.”

Blake responded, “That doesn’t sound like Benioff at all.” He wound up reading the email at the couple’s wedding.

When did Amanda Peet and David Benioff get married?

The pair tied the knot on Sept. 30, 2006 in a ceremony held at Peet’s alma mater, Friends Seminary, a Quaker school in New York City. People reported at the time that Elizabeth Berkley and Mark Ruffalo were among the guests. “It was amazing and as extraordinary as she is,” Berkley told the outlet. “It was beautiful,” Ruffalo offered.

Is Amanda Peet still married?

She sure is. She and Benioff will celebrate 20 years of marriage in September 2026.

Do Amanda Peet and husband David Benioff have kids?

Yes, the couple share three kids: Frances “Frankie” Pen, 19, whose middle name is for Peet’s late mother, Penny; Molly June, 16; and Henry Peet, 11. (The kids have the last name Friedman, which is their father’s legal surname—he uses his mother’s maiden name for his professional career.)

Writing in The New Yorker about how she shared her breast cancer diagnosis with her oldest two, Peet said, “My daughters were on the cusp of adulthood. If we were going to remain close, to know each other deeply over the course of a lifetime, we would have to learn how to have difficult conversations.”

Molly cried, she recalled, and Frankie, who FaceTimed from her college quad at Cornell, “clapped her hand over her mouth and kept it there until she was able to process the excellent portion of the news: that it appeared I was Stage I and wasn’t going to need chemo.” (Peet would instead undergo a lumpectomy and radiation.)

Has Amanda Peet ever worked with husband David Benioff?

They worked together on The Chair, which Peet co-created and Benioff executive produced, but other than that, they’ve largely kept their personal and professional lives separate—at least so far.

Still, Peet has noted the impact Benioff has had on her career, telling Elle that after they got together, she “started to feel more confident about passing on lousy writing.”

“I would read a script and say, ‘I'm going to go do this,’ and he'd say, ‘You can't score in this role. You're not a part of the plot,’” she continued. “He was like, just wait. I would say, ‘If you want me to wait, f-cking write something for me!’"

At the time, Benioff was still working on GoT and Peet joked that she was “still waiting" for a part on the show. She never got one, of course, but at least she got the guy.

Who Won 'Jeopardy' Today? (April 3, 2026) Plus, the Final Jeopardy Answer

Fri, 04/03/2026 - 3:00pm

There are three things guaranteed in the world today: Death, taxes, and Jeopardy! being on. Believe it or not, the iconic game show has been on the air for over 60 years (though the modern incarnation we know and love technically debuted in 1984). Under the watchful eye of Ken Jennings (who himself was a record-breaking champion), Jeopardy! puts three people's trivia skills and reflexes to the ultimate test. And so many of the greats to grace those podiums started by simply watching the show as it aired on weekdays, as millions have done for over half a century.

Here's a spoiler-filled recap of who won Jeopardy! today, plus the answer to Final Jeopardy.

Who won Jeopardy today?Jamie Ding

Jamie Ding claimed his 16th consecutive victory, tying for 10th all-time in wins and bringing his total winnings to $462,401.

Who are the Jeopardy contestants today?Robyn Horn

Robyn Horn, a commercial real estate broker from Seattle, Washington

Emmett Laurie, a poker player from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Jamie Ding

It's becoming increasingly difficult to talk about Season 42 of Jeopardy! without mentioning the name Jamie Ding. The bureaucrat and law student from Lawrenceville, New Jersey, has turned Jennings' quiz show into his personal showcase, and on the Good Friday edition, he added yet another tally to his remarkable streak.

He dominated the buzzer once again, finishing with a 45.61% first-in rate (26 out of 57 clues) and racking up 32 correct responses against just 1 incorrect.

Adding $34,401 during today's game, he extended his winning streak to an impressive 16 consecutive games. His cumulative total now stands at $462,401, placing him 8th in regular-play winnings and tying him for 10th all-time in total wins.

What was Final Jeopardy today?

Final Jeopardy today was in the category "'90s Television."

The clue: "'Northwest Passage" was a working title of this series that was renamed for mountains."

The answer: What is Twin Peaks?

Going into Final Jeopardy, the scores were Ding at $29,400, Laurie at $17,200, and Horn at $5,400. Ding had been cruising toward his eighth consecutive runaway game, but Laurie found the last Daily Double in Double Jeopardy and doubled up through it, keeping audiences on their toes heading into the final round.

In the end, both Ding and Horn answered correctly. Ding made the standard cover bet of $5,001, finishing at $34,401. Horn wagered $4,600 to finish with a respectable $10,000, while Laurie, needing to bet big to have any shot, wagered everything ($17,200), but his response of "What is… Hi Zoe?" missed the mark, dropping him to $0. It was a tough break for the poker player, who had played a strong game up to that point.

Ding will be back on Monday, going for win number 17.

1968 Album That Gave Us 'Mrs. Robinson' Was Released 58 Years Ago Today

Fri, 04/03/2026 - 2:45pm

Fifty-eight years ago today, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel quietly changed the game for what a pop album could be.

On April 3, 1968, the folk rock duo released Bookends, their fourth studio album, through Columbia Records. But this wasn't just another record. It was a full-blown concept album that traced the arc of human life from childhood to old age, opening with a 30-second instrumental version of the "Bookends Theme" and closing with a longer vocal reprise. Simon later called it "our first serious piece of work," and honestly? He wasn't wrong.

The level of perfectionism that went into this album was next level. The duo and co-producer Roy Halee reportedly spent more than 50 hours in the studio on the track "Punky's Dilemma" alone. They brought in viola and brass players and re-recorded vocal parts note by note until they were fully satisfied with every sound.

'Voices of Old People' and the Song That Changed Everything

One of the most unforgettable moments on Bookends didn't even involve singing. For "Voices of Old People," Garfunkel visited retirement homes with a tape recorder and captured elderly residents reflecting on illness, photographs and the passage of time. It's a haunting, deeply human piece that perfectly captures what the album was all about.

Then there's "Mrs. Robinson." Originally sketched in fragments for the 1967 film The Graduate, the full version debuted on Bookends and became Simon & Garfunkel's second No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100. At the 11th Annual Grammy Awards in 1969, it became the first rock and roll song to win Record of the Year. And instead of performing at the ceremony, Simon and Garfunkel filmed a video of themselves romping around Yankee Stadium, a playful nod to the song's famous lyric about Joe DiMaggio.

🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

An Album That Still Resonates

Bookends reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and spent a total of seven non-consecutive weeks at the top, trading the spot back and forth with the duo's own Graduate soundtrack. Together, the two albums dominated the chart for 16 straight weeks. Beyond "Mrs. Robinson," Bookends gave us "America," "Old Friends" and "A Hazy Shade of Winter", all of which have continued to find new fans decade after decade.

The album placed Simon and Garfunkel alongside the Beatles, Bob Dylan and Aretha Franklin at the forefront of the late-'60s cultural moment. Nearly six decades later, Bookends is still proof that taking your time and getting it right never goes out of style.

McCormick Just Dropped 4 New Spice Blends That Promise to Make Your Cooking Taste More Layered

Fri, 04/03/2026 - 2:45pm

Have you ever been to a fancy restaurant where they dazzle you with artfully plated dishes that look like they could have been dreamed up by the surrealist mind of Salvador Dali, only for the first bite to taste kind of meh? Sure, you're eating the most stunning piece of toro nigiri served on a levitating platter with freshly grated wasabi, but if the sushi rice isn't seasoned, what's really the point?

In reality, no amount of mystifying technique or flashy culinary know-how can stand in for the most important part of cooking, whether you're making your grandma's lasagna or a deconstructed tiramisu that looks like a Van Gogh. The real secret to any great dish is creating layers and layers of flavor. Deeply browned meat, rich roasted garlic and punchy sauces that add just the perfect finishing touch. It's the difference between a tomato sauce that has an unmistakable canned taste and one that tastes as if somebody's Nonna made it with so much love it brings a tear to your eye.

The best chefs know that a legendary dish lives and dies by how good it tastes. But for the average home cook, taking hours to caramelize onions or confit garlic for a compound butter for a casual standing rib roast on a Tuesday isn't exactly feasible. Luckily, McCormick, the world's number one spice brand, just dropped a new collection of spice blends that'll make your quick and easy dinners taste more elevated and layered.

McCormick Launches New Lineup of Signature Seasonings Inspired by Classic Flavors

Courtesy McCormick

Introducing McCormick's new Signature Seasonings line that includes four delicious new blends that might even replace more than one spice already in your cabinet. Included in the flavor-packed new lineup are a spicy Chili Garlic Spice Blend, a zesty Chimichurri Flavored Seasoning, a rich Caramelized Onion blend, and a bold Garlic and Olive Oil mix. Each blend draws inspiration from classic flavors like aligia e olio or the zesty chimichurri used on Argentinian churrasco.

How to Use McCormick's New Spice Blends

You can use them in a variety of dishes, like the Chili Garlic flavor to spice up your Dandan Noodles or the Caramelized Onion to add a deep umami note to your standard grilled cheese. The Chimichurri flavor would be fantastic sprinkled onto roast veggies, and the Garlic and Olive Oil blend is a natural fit for pasta. Although none of the blends are salt-free, it isn't the primary ingredient, so it acts more as a flavor enhancer than a seasoning substitute as you go.

The blends are set to retail at $4.49 and will start showing up on grocery shelves sometime this April, but you'll be able to order them online as early as April 10. Whatever you decide to whip up in the kitchen, just remember that no matter how good a dish looks, it's all about how it tastes. There's nothing more disappointing than biting into a beautifully presented airline chicken with creamy pomme puree only for it to taste like nothing.

On the bright side, a quick sprinkle of McCormick Caremlized Onion Seasoning might just be the secret ingredient it's missing. Maybe Beyoncé can keep that in her bag, too. Here's to layering on the flavor.

Lisa Vanderpump Reveals Why Dakota Mortensen Was Edited Out of 'Vanderpump Villa'

Fri, 04/03/2026 - 2:32pm

Lisa Vanderpump is addressing Dakota Mortensen being cut from Vanderpump Villa.

According to Variety, Mortensen’s storyline will be edited out of season 3 of the reality series, which is set to premiere on Apr. 16 on Hulu. The decision was made amid an ongoing domestic violence investigation involving Mortensen and his ex-girlfriendTaylor Frankie Paul.

In an interview with People, Vanderpump, who leads and executive produces Vanderpump Villa, said Mortensen “didn't really have a big storyline” on the show and that removing him from the final cut “hasn't affected the story.”

“We don’t want to shine a spotlight on something that’s been so controversial when we have so much great content,” Vanderpump said. “Our show’s ready to go. Obviously, we don't want to do anything extraordinarily significant at this stage in the game, but it's ready to go.”

She noted that Mortensen had a “brief storyline of an interaction with somebody else, and we just scaled that back because of the controversy.”

Season 4 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives teased Mortensen and the other “DadTok” members visiting Vanderpump Villa, with drama ensuing after it was revealed Mortensen allegedly hooked up with a girl there.

“We've got so much ‘feel good factor’ and so much story content anyway,” Vanderpump concluded. “The visuals are beautiful, the stories are complicated. There's a lot of humor in it, there's a lot of funny, sexy time and it's a great show. It's great entertainment.”

RELATED: Dakota Mortensen to Be Edited Out of ‘Vanderpump Villa’ Amid Taylor Frankie Paul Controversy

In March, a spokesperson for the Draper City Police Department in Utah confirmed that there is an open “domestic assault investigation” regarding Paul and Mortensen related to incidents that allegedly occurred in February 2026.

The spokesperson confirmed “allegations have been made in both directions” and that “contact was made with involved parties on [Feb] 24th and 25th,” but declined to share any further details.

Hulu paused filming of season 5 of Mormon Wives due to the ongoing investigation, and no decision has been made about Paul’s and Mortensen’s futures on the series thus far.

Paul’s season of The Bachelorette was scheduled to premiere on Mar. 22. On Mar. 19, ABC pulled the plug on her season after TMZ released a never-before-seen video that appears to show Paul assaulting Mortensen back in 2023.

In a statement to TMZ, a Disney Entertainment spokesperson said, “In light of the newly released video just surfaced today, we have made the decision to not move forward with the new season of The Bachelorette at this time, and our focus is on supporting the family.”

After her season was pulled, Paul spoke out via a statement from her representation.

“Taylor is very grateful for ABC’s support as she prioritizes her family’s safety and security. After years of silently suffering extensive mental and physical abuse as well as threats of retaliation, Taylor is finally gaining the strength to face her accuser and taking steps to ensure that she and her children are protected from any further harm,” the statement read. “There are too many women who are suffering in silence as they survive aggressive, jealous ex-partners who refuse to let them move on with their lives. Taylor has remained silent out of fear of further abuse, retaliation, and public shaming. She is currently exploring all of her options, seeking support, and preparing to own and share her story.”

Mortensen is also set to appear in a reality competition series produced by Alex Cooper, streaming on YouTube starting Monday, Apr. 6.

If you or someone you know has been a victim of domestic violence, help is available 24 hours a day through the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-7233.

Is ‘Fire Country’ on Tonight? (April 3, 2026)

Fri, 04/03/2026 - 2:29pm

Fire Country has been on hiatus for the past couple of weeks, thanks to March Madness.

It’s been a rough time for Fire Country fans who had to go nearly two months without the show, only to have three new episodes air before another break.

This came as Season 4 of the hit CBS show has been barreling along with drama and a cast shake-up.

Is Fire Country on Tonight?

Fire Country fans can rejoice because the show is back tonight, Friday, April 3. A brand-new episode will air, and it’s one fans won’t want to miss.

The first-ever Fire Country and Sheriff Country event is taking place. Much like in the One Chicago world, the two shows will have a seamless storyline.

Sheriff Country and Fire Country Crossover Event

As Parade reported, the crossover features a mystery bus explosion that takes over Edgewater after it causes nine teens to go missing, forcing Sharon (Diane Farr) and Cal Fire to work closely with Mickey (Morena Baccarin) and the sheriff’s department.

The episode, titled “The Bravest,” airs at 9/8c and is a continuation of Sheriff Country’s episode titled “The Finest," airing at 8/7c. Baccarin is joined by her co-stars Matt Lauria (Boone) and W. Earl Brown (Wes) for the special crossover.

Sharon isn’t the only Fire Country star to appear on Sheriff Country, either. Bode (Max Thieriot) and Eve (Jules Latimer) will also appear in the episode.

A synopsis for “The Bravest” reads, “With the clock ticking and the fate of nine missing students on the line, firefighter Bode Leone and Deputy Nathan Boone must risk it all in order to save innocent lives, in part two of the two-hour SHERIFF COUNTRY and FIRE COUNTRY cross over event.”

Christine Lahti is back as Sharon's estranged mother, Ruby, for the crossover. Ruby's presence has a major impact on not only Sharon but also Mickey and Wes.

It’s not all drama in Edgewater, though. CBS gave a sneak peek of a moment from the crossover featuring Eve and Wes at Smokey’s, showcasing their musical talent and bringing the town together.

Fans were thrilled with the tease because it’s been a while since music was featured on Fire Country. In fact, the show has been lacking in music since Billy Burke’s (Vince) departure.

The Fire Country return kicks off a string of new episodes leading to the Season 4 finale on Friday, May 22.

Along with Farr, Thieriot, and Latimer, Fire Country stars Jordan Calloway (Jake), Kevin Alejandro (Manny), and Michael Trucco (Luke).

Dakota Mortensen to Be Edited Out of 'Vanderpump Villa' Amid Taylor Frankie Paul Controversy

Fri, 04/03/2026 - 2:13pm

Dakota Mortensen will be edited out of Vanderpump Villa amid an ongoing domestic violence investigation involving him and his ex-girlfriend Taylor Frankie Paul.

According to Variety, Mortensen's storyline will be edited out of season 3 of the reality series, which is set to premiere on Apr. 16 on Hulu.

Hulu paused filming of season 5 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives due to the ongoing investigation, and no decision has been made about Paul's and Mortensen's futures on the series thus far.

Season 4 of Mormon Wives teased Mortensen and the other "DadTok" members visiting Vanderpump Villa, with drama ensuing after it was revealed Mortensen allegedly hooked up with a girl there.

Mortensen is also set to appear in a reality competition series produced by Alex Cooper, streaming on YouTube starting Monday, Apr. 6.

After Turning 55, Jon Hamm Has This to Say About Aging in Hollywood

Fri, 04/03/2026 - 2:10pm

It's hard to believe Mad Men premiered nearly two decades ago.

Cut to 2026, and its strapping star has found a new show that's finding similar critical acclaim, with him returning to the driver's seat as lead actor.

Jon Hamm recently turned 55 (does he look it?) and got candid with AARP's Movies for Grownups about what's been like to age in Hollywood. At the surface, the notion seem ominous and daunting for on-screen performers — but Hamm offers an alternative viewpoint.

"It feels fine. I get to work with some of the greatest people in my business these days, and I’m very fortunate, whether it’s Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon [The Morning Show], or Noah Hawley [Fargo creator], or Amanda Peet [who plays his ex-wife, Mel, on Your Friends & Neighbors], or Tom Cruise [Top Gun: Maverick], Billy Bob Thornton [Landman]," he told AARP. "The list goes on and on. I’m incredibly fortunate."

Hamm continued, "I feel great, relatively speaking. After 50, waking up is a bonus. Waking up pain-free is a real bonus. So it’s just about enjoying yourself. I’m very lucky. I get to do what I’ve always wanted to do at, I think, the highest level. I still appreciate it every day. I still love going to work. So for me, aging is fun, honestly. I’ve enjoyed it. I’ve earned it. I guess I should say that. That’s really what it is. I’m not regretful or angry at it at all. If you made it this far, you’re doing something right."

And if you've seen the Emmy winner on talk shows, you may have heard Hamm refer to himself as a "late bloomer." To explain:

"I've always been a half a generation behind all my friends in everything. Whether it’s getting married [to actress Anna Osceola in June 2023], or getting wealthy, or finding my way," he told AARP in part. "I’ve always been on the opposite end of wherever my friends were. It’s just how I feel in the moment. I’ve always been very fortunate to maintain a pretty eyes-wide-open presence in my life."

This 18-Year-Old Novel Is the No. 1 Goodreads Users Want To See Turned Into a Movie

Fri, 04/03/2026 - 1:56pm

There are plenty of novels that we would love to see turned into movies, and there are times we’re fortunate that it happens. Just look at the Harry Potter books, The Hunger Games, and The Lord of the Rings.

Some of the novels work better as TV shows instead of movies, but at the end of the day, we still get something visual on our screens to see how others picture the works. There are still billions of other books that haven’t been adapted, and Goodreads users have one pick that they would love to see adapted.

Goodreads Users Want a Cassandra Clare Novel Adapted

The No. 1 pick on Goodreads is City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare, released in March 2008, and this isn’t all that surprising. It’s the second book in the Mortal Instruments series, which starts with City of Bones

Now, this is a series of books that have already been adapted for the small screen, and you’ll know it as Shadowhunters, the teen supernatural drama that aired on Freeform between 2016 and 2019. There has also been a movie adaptation of City of Bones, and the rights for the second book were optioned, with production starting back in 2013.

Things changed, with production being halted and then the movie canceled, leading to the TV series. However, there are still many people out there who want to see the movie done.

This one sits comfortably at the top of the list of “Books That Should Be Made Into Movies” with a score of 721,186 from 7,395 votes. The closest book behind that is Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick, with a score of 596,352 with 6,135 votes.

A Novel That Focuses on Wants and Duty

City of Ashes is a novel that many fans have connected to, as it delves into the world of wants and duty. After learning about her heritage in the first novel, Clary Fray has to make some personal choices. All she wants is for her life to go back to normal and return to the human world, but the Shadowhunting world isn’t finished with her.

Her mom is in a magically induced coma, there’s a rogue Shadowhunter, Valentine, out there, and she has a newfound brother Jace to get to know. How does she manage all of that along with her regular teenage hormones?

Some of this was used for Shadowhunters, but with the hope of it being adapted into a movie so long ago, it’s not surprising that fans want to see it on the big screen still!

Major Delays Leave U.S. Passengers Stranded Across the Country— And It's More Than One Major Airline's 'Fault'

Fri, 04/03/2026 - 1:55pm

If you’ve ever watched departure boards fill up with “Delayed” and “Canceled” late notices and felt your travel plans unravel, you are experiencing what many U.S. travelers faced in spring 2026. A continuing wave of disruptions, from severe weather to operational snarls at key hubs like Chicago O’Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Phoenix, has left flights significantly late, canceled, or rerouted across the national air system. According to Nomad Lawyer, Southwest Airlines has become one of the hardest‑hit carriers in the 2026 disruption wave, with nearly 1,000 flight delays at key airports such as Chicago Midway (MDW), New York’s LaGuardia (LGA), and Los Angeles International (LAX), and at least 16 cancellations during the peak April 3 disruption event.

Airlines large and small have reported thousands of flight delays and numerous cancellations in early April, creating long waits at terminals, crowded gate areas, and frantic rebooking efforts. For passengers planning trips right now, the key questions are why this is happening and what travelers can realistically do to cope.

Subscribe to our newsletter and get the latest travel updates delivered straight to your inbox.

The Scope of the Disruptions: Numbers and Causes Travelers Should Know

In early April 2026, multiple major U.S. carriers experienced widespread disruptions across their networks:

  • American Airlines reported more than 820 delays and at least 46 cancellations in a single day, with major impacts at hubs including New York, Dallas, and Los Angeles.
  • United Airlines faced approximately 835 delays and 44 cancellations, a disruption pattern that extended across its hub system from Chicago to Los Angeles.
  • Frontier Airlines also saw 201 delays and 19 cancellations at its core hubs, including Denver, Chicago, and airports in the New York area.
  • Southwest Airlines was also heavily affected. Because Southwest operates a point-to-point network, even a small delay quickly cascades through the system, leaving travelers struggling to find rebooking options for 48 to 72 hours.

Why Are So Many Flights Delayed or Canceled?

Persistent and overlapping weather systems, including thunderstorms, high winds, and runway limitations, have repeatedly forced FAA ground holds and slower departure rates at hubs nationwide. These weather issues do not just affect one airport. They ripple outward, affecting aircraft and crew schedules in multiple regions.

Airlines often run with little slack in their schedules. When an early-day delay occurs, aircraft and pilots can quickly fall out of sequence, leaving later flights late or canceled. This is especially true for carriers with point-to-point network models. Equipment and crews have fewer recovery options when they fall behind.

At some airports, capacity constraints or regulatory changes, such as reduced arrivals due to runway work or safety limits, can also add delays. For example, at San Francisco International Airport, the FAA has reduced arrival rates by one-third due to runway work and safety procedures, slowing operations for many carriers serving West Coast routes.

What It Feels Like on the Ground: Passenger Experiences and Terminal Realities

As someone who has watched these patterns unfold from both sides of the ticket counter, as traveler and chronicler, the experience at busy airports can feel more like a scramble than a journey. At major hubs, departure boards display long lists of delays and cancellations, often with little advance notice or explanation on the screens.

At crowded customer service desks, travelers compare rebooking options or share stories of flights pushed back hours. Across multiple U.S. airports, travelers have seen:

  • Long service lines at rebooking counters as gate agents work to accommodate stranded passengers.
  • Constant changes on departure boards make same-day alternatives hard to secure.
  • Late aircraft rotations, meaning flights cannot depart until delayed arrivals clear gates.
  • Limited alternate seat availability, especially when nearby flights are already full.

Smart Steps Travelers Can Take When Plans Go Awry

It is easy to feel powerless if your itinerary gets upended, but there are proactive steps travelers can take to manage disruptions. Whenever I run into interruptions, these are the things I keep in mind:

1. Monitor Flights Before You Head to the Airport

Don’t rely solely on a single airline alert. Use both your airline’s mobile app and independent flight-tracking tools to check for delays or cancellations as early as possible. These updates sometimes surface before automated notifications arrive.

2. Understand Your Passenger Rights

In the U.S., federal rules allow you to request and receive a refund if your flight is canceled and you choose not to travel. This applies even if the disruption is weather-related. Knowing this empowers you to make choices rather than absorb endless reschedules.

Sign up for our newsletter and get hidden gems, travel secrets, and stories like this delivered straight to your inbox!

3. Rebook Early and Broadly

If you see a delay brewing that could cause you to miss a connecting flight, act early. Explore all alternative routing options, including nearby airports, so you have choices before queues grow and seats vanish.

4. Leverage Travel Insurance and Credit Card Protections

If your itinerary involves multiple legs, consider travel insurance or credit cards that provide reimbursement for meals, hotels, and other expenses when flights are significantly delayed or canceled. Many policies also cover rebooking fees and incidental costs tied to disruption.

5. Choose Flights Strategically

If your schedule allows, earlier morning flights are statistically less likely to be delayed than afternoon or evening departures. This is because they have fewer upstream dependencies on other flights running on time.

Joseph Duggar’s Attorney Breaks Silence on Child Molestation Case: ‘Nervous, Anxious and Worried’

Fri, 04/03/2026 - 1:54pm

Joseph Duggar is "nervous, anxious, and worried" about what his future looks like following his arrest for alleged child molestation, according to his attorney Al Sauline.

In an interview with TMZ, Sauline said it's been a whirlwind since Joseph was first arrested and charged for Lewd and Lascivious Behavior, involving unlawful sexual activity with a minor, on Mar. 18.

Two days later, Joseph and his wife Kendra were hit with additional child endangerment charges—unrelated to Joseph’s initial case.

Sauline noted that with all the media coverage surrounding his ongoing court cases, Joseph is feeling the weight of the unknown that lies ahead.

The defense attorney told the outlet that Joseph has no idea what evidence Florida prosecutors have on him, and that his legal team is not allowed to see it until formal charges are filed. However, Joseph and his defense are aware of who the alleged victim is.

The charges stem from an incident that allegedly occurred with a nine-year-old girl—who is now 14—during a vacation to Panama City Beach, Florida, in 2020.

Sauline noted there's a lot of conflicting evidence and speculation, making it difficult for the defense team to know what's real and what's not. They're also unsure of who is leaking information online and to the press.

Despite these challenges, Sauline said the defense team's top priority is that Joseph is treated fairly throughout the legal process. The 19 Kids and Counting star and his team are also standing by his not guilty plea, which was entered on Sunday, Mar. 29.

Joseph was released from jail after posting a $600,000 bond on Tuesday, Mar. 31.

Sauline said Joseph has "good family support" following his release back to Arkansas and they are helping him stay in "good spirits."

Joseph is due back in court on May 18, pushed back from his original court date of Apr. 20.

How Michael Jackson's Nephew Got Major Role in Upcoming Biopic

Fri, 04/03/2026 - 1:52pm

The role of Michael Jackson for the upcoming biopic about the King of Pop was given to the perfect person.

Jaafar Jackson, the son of Jermaine Jackson and nephew of Michael Jackson, will be making his film debut in Michael, playing the "Thriller" singer. Jaafar Jackson appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday night to tell the story of how he got the lead role.

The 29-year-old actor and singer revealed that he first heard about the movie when he read an article online that film producer Graham King, who was also behind Queen's biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, got the rights to tell Michael Jackson's story. Two months later, King called Jaafar Jackson and told him that he wanted to have a Zoom meeting with him, and Jaafar already had a feeling about "what this was going to lead" to.

While getting lunch with King, Jaafar revealed to him that he "never wanted to be an actor" and he actually wanted to become a professional golf player, but got into music. But, he mentioned that he grew up watching his uncle's music videos and movies. Six months later, King got Jaafar Jackson an acting coach and started working on certain scenes for the upcoming film, and it ended up being a two-year process of auditioning and turning into Michael Jackson.

While filming Michael, Jaafar Jackson described "spending all those hours in the makeup chair" as "surreal and a spiritual moment at the same time."

"That process of seeing me slowly transform into Michael was emotional," he admitted. He also gave credit to Bill Corso, the head of makeup for the biopic.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Jaafar Jackson started singing and dancing at 12 years old. In 2015, he was the main cast member of his family's reality show Living with the Jacksons, where he sang covers by Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye. In 2019, he released his debut single "Got Me Singing," and appeared in various Jackson-related projects such as The Jacksons: Next Generation and the music video for Tito Jackson's "Love One Another."

It was confirmed in December 2023 that Jaafar Jackson was cast in the lead role of Michael, which is directed by Antoine Fuqua. The ensemble cast also features Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Juliano Krue Valdi, Miles Teller and Colman Domingo, and will be released in theaters on April 24.

Best known for his songs, performances, fashion taste and popularizing street dance moves like the moonwalk and robot, Michael Jackson has been regarded as one of the most culturally significant figures in the 20th century. During this 40-year career, he released 10 studio albums and appeared in several films. The "Billie Jean" singer passed away in June 2009 from a cardiac arrest that was caused by a propofol overdose.

His upcoming biopic about his life and career, Michael, will be out in theaters on April 24.

Mark Harmon Continues To Take a Leaf Out of an ‘NCIS’ Character’s Book With New Release

Fri, 04/03/2026 - 1:36pm

As much as we would love to see Mark Harmon return to NCIS, the actor is happy with his life the way it is now. It’s not like he’s completely left the franchise either, offering the voiceover for NCIS: Origins, as it gets into Gibbs’ origin story.

Harmon is busy with a few other projects, and one of them is taking a leaf out of an NCIS character’s book. For the longest time, Tim McGee had to defend his love of writing, but for the actors, it’s different. Harmon has non-fiction book coming out.

‘Ghosts of Sicily’ Will Be Released in April 2026

Harmon has teamed up with a real NCIS vet, Leon Carroll Jr., to bring a nonfiction story about the real Naval Intelligence. The full title of the book is Ghosts of Sicily: The True Story of the Naval Intelligence Agents Who Courted the Mob to Fight Nazis in America and the Battlefields of Italy, which is arguably a bit of a mouthful, but it definitely tells you what you’ll be reading about!

The best thing is that there isn’t long to wait until this book is released. It’s slated to hit shelves on April 14, 2026, and it touches on a part of history that has been burned from existence. It turns out taht all records of how the Office of Naval Intelligence/ONI was involved in World War II, especially the invasion, have been burned from record. This book explores why that was, as well as what happened throughout the time period.

It could be due to the way that gangsters in New York were used as assets to help with the missions. It could also be linked to the fact that the mission wasn’t all that effective. Whatever the reason, we get to know very soon.

Not the First Book from Mark Harmon

This is not the first time Harmon has put pen to paper and followed in NCIS’s McGee’s footsteps. However, all of Harmon’s work has been nonfiction compared to McGee’s fiction.

Harmon and Carroll Jr. worked together on a release in November 2023, which was another look at history long forgotten by many. Ghosts of Honolulu: A Japanese Spy, A Japanese American Spy Hunter, and the Untold Story of Pearl Harbor is a must-read for those who want to learn a little more about the Eastern Front throughout World War II.

Heidi Klum and Seal’s Handsome Son Henry, 20, Is a Rising Musical Star Just Like His Dad

Fri, 04/03/2026 - 1:34pm

Heidi Klum and Seal's son, Henry Samuel, is eyeing a musical career just like his talented father.

The rising star, 20, whose mom is one of the most legendary models in the entire world, joined his mother on the red carpet at the New York premiere of The Drama at Regal Union Square this week. While he has the good looks of a model and has already started working the runways, Samuel is plotting to take over the world with his musical talent, just like his dear old dad.

Does Henry Want to Be a Musician?

Henry has walked a few runways just like his mother and signed with Next Management. However, his real focus is on building a music career. That’s not a big surprise, considering his father is Seal!

“When I’m playing guitar, it’s usually rock or blues,” Henry told GQ last year. “But when I’m listening to music, it’s usually rap or Steely Dan. I listen to a lot of Steely Dan.”

Of course, it’s a little scary walking the runway when your mom is one of the most famous models in the world.

“I’m very lucky to have a family that can support me in that sense, but also it’s a little bit [nerve-racking], ’cause I’m kind of putting on the show for them, too,” he said.

Take a look at the handsome young man as he walked the runway during the Lena Erziak Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2025 show as part of Paris Fashion Week at Hotel Le Marois last year in Paris, France.

Who Are Heidi Klum’s Other Children?

The supermodel stunner is also mom to kids Leni, 21, Johan, 19, and Lou, 16. However, with some of them growing up and leaving the nest, the kids are heading in different directions. Johan has started his college career, while Leni is frequently spotted modeling alongside her mom. The duo was even joined by Henry on the cover of Paper last month. Now that’s taking the family business to a whole new level!

This 1967 Sally Field Sitcom Aired Its Final Episode 56 Years Ago Today

Fri, 04/03/2026 - 1:34pm

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s actually a flying nun. In 1965, ABC premiered an offbeat fantasy sitcom set in a convent, centered on a nun with an extraordinary ability. More than five decades later, the beloved series aired its final episode, wrapping up its three-season run.

It's not every day that nuns have special powers that help them solve problems for the poor. The ABC sitcomThe Flying Nun was originally based on a book that was released that same year, titled The Fifteenth Pelican by Teres Rìos. The Flying Nun is exactly as the title desribes with actor Sally Field in the leading role of Elsie Ethrington, also known as Sister Bertrille.

Its storyline focuses on Bernard as she leaves New York after getting arrested for a life of service among a community of nuns in the Concent San Taco in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The comedy aspect of the sitcom comes from Sister Bertrille learning she can fly thanks to her heavily starched cornette, which serves as the headpiece for her habit. Thanks to her powers, she can solve almost any problem to help the poor and teach the underprivileged.

The Flying Nun also starred Madeleine Sherwood as Reverend Mother Placido, Marge Redmond as Sister Jacqueline, and Alenjandro Rey as Carlos Ramirez. An ensemble of actors also made up the rest of the cast in the roles of nuns at the convent, priests, doctors, and more.

Field landed the role in the sitcom after the cancellation of ABC's Gidget, where she played the leading character. Wanting to keep her on the air, the network developed The Flying Nun, and Field initially found the concept ridiculous and rejected the role. She took the role at her father's insistence, but wasn't happy during her time working on the sitcom due to its humor and ill-received criticism.

Due to better-performing series at the time, the sitcom was cancelled. On April 3, 1970, The Flying Nun aired its final episode after three seasons and 82 episodes. Field was also reportedly pregnant at the start of filming the third season, with props and scenery used to hide her growing bump. The sitcom did moderately well in its first two seasons and led Redmond to be nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

Grey's Anatomy Teases Yet Another Major Character Exit

Fri, 04/03/2026 - 1:32pm

WARNING! Grey’s Anatomy spoilers ahead!

Grey's Anatomy has never been shy about shaking things up—and season 22 is proving to be one of the most turbulent in recent memory.

The latest episode, which aired Thursday, April 2, ended on a cliffhanger that has left fans wondering whether two more beloved characters could be on their way out. Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Dr. Benson Kwan (Harry Shum Jr.) are now caught in the crosshairs of an FDA investigation, and the fallout could cost them everything.

Long story short, the drama stems from Kwan injecting patient Quinn Durston with an experimental hydrogel that the FDA had specifically rejected, without the patient's consent. Bailey, aware of what happened, chose to cover for her resident rather than report him. "He was just trying to help and we had a treatment that could," she explained to her husband Dr. Ben Warren (Jason Winston George). "We've all done things we shouldn't have, but we're still here. He's paying for his mistake with notes and orders. He doesn't need to upend his training."

But keeping secrets at Grey Sloan Memorial never stays easy for long. When Durston developed a pulmonary embolism and his son revealed the truth about the experimental treatment, intern Dr. Dani Spencer took it upon herself to report the situation, turning Bailey in to the chief. Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) wasted no time. "The institutional review board will want every detail," he told Bailey as the episode cut to black. "They're launching an investigation."

The timing couldn't be more loaded. Just a week earlier, Kevin McKidd and Kim Raverconfirmed their departures from the show at the end of the season, with their characters Dr. Owen Hunt and Dr. Teddy Altman heading for the exit. McKidd has been on the show for a whopping 18 seasons, and Raver not far behind at 16 (though she had some breaks in between).

Fans will have to keep watching season 22 to find out whether Bailey and Kwan survive the investigation, or whether Grey Sloan is about to lose two more of its own.
