Nancy Guthrie Update: Ex-FBI Agent Sends Bold Message About New Cold Case Note
Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie‘s mom, Nancy Guthrie, is still missing more than two months after being abducted from her Tucson, Ariz., home—and a retired FBI agent just sent a bold message to the alleged ransom note writer after a new letter emerged.
On Monday, April 6, TMZ reported that it received a new correspondence from a person alleging that Nancy "is dead." However, the alleged ransom note writer also claimed to have information on the location of the 84-year-old's body.
"I saw her alive with them in the state of Sonora, Mexico," they alleged in the note. TMZ reported that the letter was from the same person who sent notes to the outlet back in February.
The person is allegedly still demanding 1 Bitcoin for information. This time, though, they asked for half before the information is shared and half after a public arrest.

After the news broke on Monday, retired FBI special agent Jennifer Coffindaffertook to X with her blunt reaction to the development—which happened on the same day that Savannah returned to Today as a co-anchor for the first time since her mom went missing.
"@TMZLive just got another ransom note today," she wrote in the update. "The person says they have her body and want only a half of a Bitcoin for information leading to where Nancy is buried. $34, 842.12 USD.
Coffindaffer boldly added, "What a pathetic Whacko torturing Savannah after her return to the @TODAYshow. If this was your mom would you risk paying if you were a multimillionaire?"

In the comments, X users following the case weighed in on the situation. One wrote, "TMZ should be keeping their damn mouths shut. It's like they are enjoying this. Should just be handed over to LE, they don't need to tell the public."
Another speculated, "Savannah and her people are smart. She will not pay a dime without some kind of proof. Some people are disgusting. I'm sure it's a scam."
Someone else commented, "If you knew something, it’s pathetic you demand a reward to help this already brokenhearted family."
Nancy was last seen at her Tucson residence on the evening of Jan. 31. The Pima County Sheriff's Department launched its search on Feb. 1, with the FBI joining the investigation not long afterward. As of writing, no suspect has been named despite Savannah offering a $1 million reward for information leading to her mother's recovery.

10 Years Ago Today, Country Music Legend Died on His 79th Birthday After Eerily Predicting He Would
A decade ago, Merle Haggard died on the same day he turned 79 after sharing a premonition that his final moments would coincide with his birthday.
The country music singer fell ill with pneumonia in December 2015, postponing multiple concerts as he recovered in a California hospital. Three months later, Haggard was hospitalized again amid his ongoing battle with double pneumonia.
On the morning of April 6, 2016, Haggard died of complications from pneumonia at his California home. He had just turned 79 that day.
After the news broke of Merle’s death, his sonBen Haggard revealed that his famous father predicted his own death.
“A week ago Dad told us he was gonna pass on his birthday, and he wasn’t wrong,” Ben, then 22, wrote via Facebook at the time. “[An] hour ago he took his last breath surrounded by family and friends. He loved everything about life and he loved that everyone [sic] of you gave him a chance with his music.”
He added, “He wasn’t just a country singer. He was the best country singer that ever lived.”
Merle was survived by his wife, Theresa Ann Lane—whom he married in September 1993—and his six children. He shared Dana, Marty, Kelli and Noel with ex-wife Leona Hobbs and Jenessa and Ben with Lane. (Two years after her father’s death, Dana died in her sleep on April 10, 2018, at age 61.)
Three days after his death, Merle was laid to rest in a private service at his California ranch. Marty Stuart officiated the funeral, while Stuart and his wife, Connie Smith, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson’s son Micah Nelson and Merle’s sons performed musical tributes to the late star.
Born on April 6, 1937, in Oildale, California, Merle launched his music career following his 1960 release from San Quentin Prison, where he served nearly three years for attempted robbery. He earned his first top 10 song with 1964’s “(My Friends Are Gonna Be) Strangers” and his first No. 1 single with 1966’s “I’m a Lonesome Fugitive.”
During the height of his success, Merle released countless hits including 1968’s “Mama Tried,” 1969’s “Okie From Muskogee,” 1970’s “The Fightin’ Side of Me,” 1973’s “If We Make It Through December,” 1983’s “Pancho and Lefty” with Willie, 1983’s “That’s the Way Love Goes” (for which he won a Grammy for Best Male Country Vocal Performance) and 1987’s “Twinkle, Twinkle Lucky Star.”
A decade after Merle’s death, he remains one of the most iconic artists in country music history. Cody Johnson paid tribute to the late singer with the Monday, April 6, release of his cover of “Footlights,” the opening track from Merle’s 1979 album, Serving 190 Proof.
“Merle was a poet,” Johnson, 38, said in a press release. “When I’m happy, when I’m sad, when I’m frustrated, and everything in between, he has sung the soundtrack of my life.”
In a 2025 interview, Johnson shared the emotional impact Merle’s death had on him as a fan, telling RFD-TV’s On the Record at the time, “He’s still the only artist that has ever passed away that I’ve cried like he was a family member.”
Nancy Guthrie Exclusive: New Notes Raise Possibility of Federal Involvement, Retired Detective Says
New notes in the Nancy Guthrie case have raised the possibility of federal involvement, according to a retired detective familiar with the investigation.
On Monday, April 6, TMZ reported that they received additional notes, presumably from the same person who previously said that they know who was behind Guthrie's disappearance. Parade reached out to former NYPD detective David Sarni for some analysis.
"The Feds will be reviewing [the new notes], comparing them to the other notes to confirm if it’s from the same person," Sarni tells Parade, adding that investigators will look at things like writing style and identifying data such as Bitcoin info, to make that determination.
Sarni warns that the notes could be illegitimate altogether, and without proof of any kind, outside of what TMZ claims, these messages with need to be vetted.
"There are still issues of authenticity and any proof of Nancy being alive or otherwise doesn’t seem to exist in the notes," Sarni says. When I asked him if the FBI would pay the Bitcoin in hopes of receiving the promised information, Sarni said that it's possible the family could choose to do so.
"It’s far less than the reward money. There may be a conferral with the family on this new information to see how they feel about paying it," he says, cautioning, "but again where is the proof?"
With the notes being sent the same day that Savannah Guthrie returned to Today, it seems the person behind them is striking while the iron is hot. But Sarni has another take.
"The writer of the note may have no information wanting to create false hope (being vindictive) to see Savannah’s reaction… and this fuels interest in the writer looking for recognition," he suggests.
Sarni also says that if these letters are legit, the case would become a federal investigation, given that the person who sent the notes claims that Guthrie, 84, was taken to Mexico.
"There would have to be a conferral with Mexican authorities. If this is valid it may become a federal case because Nancy would not be in Arizona," he says.

Style & Co Cotton Gauze Pull-On Pants, From $33 (was $55) at Macy's Shop at Macy'sFrom the adjustable drawstring waistband to the deep pockets, this easy-to-wear style was designed with comfort in mind. The pants have a straight-leg silhouette that's relaxed, but also doesn't hug the leg too closely, giving them a flattering look without being baggy.
Made of 100% cotton, the gauze fabric is thin enough to allow for plenty of air flow but thick enough that the pants aren't see-through. Shoppers who purchased lighter colors said they especially appreciated how their underwear didn't show through the fabric.
Several shoppers also mentioned that these pants have held up incredibly well in the washing machine without fading or pilling. As someone who buys a lot of 100% cotton clothing, I can attest to the fact that many pieces made with natural fibers are prone to shrinkage. However, if you follow the care instructions and lay them flat to dry, these cotton pants should maintain their shape.
Described as "gauzy" and "flowy," reviewers raved about the "lovely" look and feel of these pants. One shopper said the "lightweight" design makes them a "go-to for spring and summer." Another reviewer shared that they were easy to pack for vacation and "comfortable" to wear on long travel days.

Best-Selling Author’s Enemies-to-Lovers Novel Ranked ‘Best Springtime Romance’ on Goodreads
Love is in the air and on the pages of Lisa Kleypas’ Scandal in Spring.
Released in July 2006, the Regency-era novel ranks No. 1 in Goodreads’ list of Best Springtime Romance Novels. It is the fourth installment of the author’s Wallflowers series, a string of novels centered on four "society misfits" who "band together to help each other find husbands" and find "the friendship of a lifetime" in the process.
Scandal in Spring is dedicated to the love story of Daisy Bowman, the youngest heiress of her American family and last unmarried "Wallflower." Taking a slight departure from its predecessors, the springtime tale lets its leading lady follow her desires, take the lead in romance, and ultimately choose her own husband. The apple of her eye, however, surprises even her, as the once detestable Matthew Swift is now too charming and sensual to ignore.
It’s a “sprightly book” The New York Timesalso recommends in its own roundup of perfect springtime reads. Secrets of a Summer Night (2004), It Happened One Autumn (2005), Devil in Winter (2006), and A Wallflower Christmas (2008) round out the series.
Book No. 4 remains a popular shelf pick with readers — at the time of this story's publication, it has more than 62,000 ratings, upward of 4,000 reviews, and over four stars on Goodreads.
Showcasing the power of female friendship, Kleypas' novels offer modern readers the same enemies-to-lovers trope that works so well in historial fiction and romance genre crossovers, but the author's injection of girl power elevates it to new heights.
“We gotta stick together,” she once told fellow period writer Eloise James in conversation.
View this post on InstagramToday, Kleypas is promoting her latest book release, Queen of Lombard Street, historical fiction The Times is already calling “an absolute delight.” That one hits shelves Oct. 20.

1969 No. 1 Hit Makes Surprising Comeback Thanks to HBO’s ‘Addictive’ Dark Comedy Series
DTF St. Louis is killing it. A sleeper hit about middle-age malaise, modern hookup apps, and a mysterious death, the limited series Roger Ebertcritics call “addictive” is climbing popularity and streaming charts like a tree in suburbia.
Last night, HBO aired the dark comedy’s penultimate episode, "The Denny's Plan," and today, we can’t get its title sequence song out of our head.
Soundtracking what looks like an homage to Mark Wahlberg’s clueless Dirk Diggler in Boogie Nights, a version of The 5th Dimension’s “Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In” plays over opening credits as Jason Bateman, who stars as Detroit weatherman Clark Forrest, performs slow-motion karate chops.
The show is touted as a dark comedy, and yes it is deeply, very darkly hilarious, and really the only lightness stemming from the emotionally raw series is its soundtrack, beginning with the iconic Hair medley.
A massive hit off the group’s The Age of Aquarius album, the song topped the Billboard chart for six weeks back in early 1969. Platinum certification, two Grammys, and nearly six decades later, the song — produced by Bones Howe with session musicians the Wrecking Crew — is popular again, with social media chatter and streaming spikes giving it a boost.
The show’s soundtrack — a mix of both classic and original songs — contains a ton of weather-related needle drops; see: Aretha Franklin’s “Hello Sunshine,” Ozzy Osbourne’s “Sunshine of Your Love,” and The Temptations’ “I Wish It Would Rain.”
Another song that’s seen overdue appreciation is Dennis Wilson’s “Rainbows.” The romantic ballad was featured in the series’ fifth episode, “Amphezyne,” as well as in Ryan Gosling’s latest space gem, Project Hail Mary.
Co-starring David Harbour as Floyd Smernitch and Linda Cardellini as Carol Love-Smernitch, the series airs its finale, “No One’s Normal. It Just Looks That Way From Across the Street,” Sunday, April 12.

DTF St. Louis airs Sundays on HBO at 9 p.m. ET and streams on HBO Max.

Internet-Famous Fly By Jing Just Launched New Flavors—and They're Already Top Sellers
Fly By Jing is an internet-famous pantry favorite that built its cult following on bold Sichuan flavors and social media excitement, and now it's expanding one of its most talked-about products in a big way. Two new noodle flavors just hit shelves, and fans are already clearing space in their carts.
Known for its viral chili crisp and rapid rise from Kickstarter darling to Whole Foods staple, Fly By Jing has officially added Creamy Sesame and Roasted Garlic to its twice-sold-out noodle lineup. The brand's signature squiggly noodles have developed a loyal following for their chewy texture and deliciously spicy sauces, and early sales suggest these new flavors are following the same path.
At Whole Foods, Fly By Jing is currently the fastest-growing instant noodle brand. Just weeks after landing in stores nationwide, Creamy Sesame has already become the number two best-selling flavor behind the cult-favorite spicy Chili Crisp Noodles. That’s especially notable because both new varieties are less spicy, proving that bold Sichuan flavor isn’t just about heat.
Big Flavor Without the BurnCourtesy Fly By Jing
The new Creamy Sesame flavor draws inspiration from dan dan noodles, a beloved Sichuan street food. It delivers rich nuttiness with a subtle floral tingle from Sichuan peppercorn.
Roasted Garlic doubles down on savory depth. The umami-rich soy-based sauce coats the bouncy noodles with a mellow garlic flavor that feels comforting yet complex. It's a strong pick for anyone who loves the Fly By Jing brand but prefers less heat.
Both flavors pack 12 to 13 grams of real protein per serving and cook in under six minutes, making them a legitimate weeknight dinner solution rather than just a late-night snack. The noodles are sun-dried, knife-cut, and triple fermented, a process that enhances flavor and creates the signature chewy texture that fans rave about.
Why Fans Are ObsessedCourtesy Fly By Jing
Searches for Fly By Jing noodles are up dramatically year over year, and the brand's momentum shows no signs of slowing down. Much of its growth has been fueled by Instagram and TikTok, where shoppers film taste tests, pantry hauls and impulsive Whole Foods runs.
Fans love that the noodles feel elevated compared to traditional instant ramen. The texture is distinctly bouncy and satisfying, closer to fresh noodles than the standard brick variety. The sauces taste layered and intentional, reflecting the brand's Chengdu-inspired roots.
Available now on Fly By Jing's website and exclusively at Whole Foods nationwide, these new flavors are already earning repeat buyers.

Iconic '70s Rock Band Announces Exciting News on 2026 Tour
The "rock and roll band with horns" is probably coming to a city near you.
Ever since the band Chicago announced they were going on their Windy City Tour back in November 2025, the rock group has been releasing additional tour dates. Even before the tour kicks off on May 6 at the Brandon Amphitheater in Mississippi, Chicago announced via social media on Monday that they are adding seven new shows for the month of September.
Chicago will be hitting the Vina Robles Amphitheatre on Sept. 19, then making their way out to Reno the next night to perform at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino. Afterward, they are returning to California to perform in Redding Civic Auditorium in Redding, CA on Sept. 21.
On Sept. 27, the "If You Leave Me Now" singers will at the BECU Live Northern Quest Resort & Casino in Spokane, WA, then performing in Utah and Montana on Sept. 29 and Sept. 30, respectively. The tour will end on Oct. 2 at the Mountain America Center in Idaho Falls.
Presale for Chicago fans will take place on Tuesday, while general sale happens on Friday.
View this post on InstagramSince their formation almost 60 years ago, the group has released 26 studio albums, multiple live recordings and numerous compilations, selling over 100 million records worldwide.
In the 1970s, Chicago reshaped the sound of popular music by blending rock with jazz, soul and pop in a way few mainstream acts had attempted. Their use of a full brass section — alongside guitar-driven arrangements — helped define the “horn rock” style and set them apart from peers like Blood, Sweat & Tears. With multi-platinum albums like Chicago II, they proved that they could achieve massive commercial success, influencing the rise of album-oriented rock while expanding the boundaries of what radio-friendly music could sound like. They have many accolades under their name, including two American Music Awards and seven Grammy Awards. In 2020, Chicago was honored with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award alongside Roberta Flack, Isaac Hayes, Iggy Pop, John Prine, Public Enemy and Sister Rosetta Tharpe.
"I want to thank the Academy and all of our fans for this incredible award," founding member Lee Loughanne wrote on the band's official website. "I think I can speak for the whole band when I say we are humbled and honored to be the recipients of this prestigious award this year, and we look forward to seeing you all on the road in 2020."

The current members of Chicago are Loughanne, James Pankow, Robert Lamm, Ray Herrmann, Walfredo Reyes Jr., Neil Donell, Ray Yslas, Tony Obrohta, Eric Baines, Carlos Murguia and Justin Avery. The group is expected to perform in multiple venues across the United States this summer.

Howard Stern Reportedly Sued by Former Assistant After Firing Over 'Hostile Work Environment'
The ex-executive assistant of Howard Stern and his wife, Beth Stern, is suing the couple after being allegedly fired this past February. Leslie Kuhn reveals that the circumstances behind the firing were the result of a "hostile work environment" and reports on an NDA she never signed.
In a report by TMZ, Kuhn began working for the couple in their Southhampton mansion in May 2024. Part of her job description was to help Stern's wife manage the household staff and operations, while also tending her "extensive" at-home feline rescue and foster. She was also reported to have been in charge of payroll and scheduling for the couple.
Her firing occurred in February, despite her reporting that Stern's production company presented her with a letter offering a sizable raise and bonus in 2026. According to the acquired documents, she was fired after working in an alleged hostile work environment, which included "immense pressures on the household created by irresponsible and untenable animal rescue, and fostering operations occurring on-site."

The report also claims that Kuhn's firing was due to "questionable business operations and accounting practices." Kuhn also revealed that Stern's production company presented her with an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) that she reportedly never signed. She claims the NDA was fabricated by the defendants, Stern and his wife, in an effort to stop Kuhn from speaking out against them and the circumstances of her firing.
Kuhn explained that the supposed NDA was signed before she had even interviewed for the position two years ago, and "is nothing more than her typewritten name in the same font style and size used to identify the parties' names in the recitals of the agreement."
Kuhn is currently asking for the courts to make the NDA unenforceable, and claims that the NDA instead allows Stern and his wife to speak freely about her. The radio host and his wife have not publicly commented on the matter.
Stern and his wife have spoken publicly on their efforts to help foster animals, and once reported to have had up to 17 cats in their home. Beth is also a national spokesperson for the North Shore Animal League America.
Public Defender’s Office Files to Withdraw Representation for Stephen Bowen in Murder of Florida Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen
Less than a week after the Coral Springs community was dealt a devastating blow with the murder of the city’s Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen, her husband and current sole suspect, Stephen Bowen, is now facing a legal hurdle.
According to TMZ, the Broward County Public Defender’s Office filed court documents on Monday, April 6, asking the judge in the case to “relieve the Public Defender from further representation,” citing a conflict of interest.
The reasoning, per the documents, stems from the public defender’s office saying they are “ethically precluded” from representing Bowen due to multiple members of their office having “personal and professional relationships” with Metayer Bowen, adding that their involvement would “violate Mr. Bowen's rights to effective assistance of counsel, due process, and a fair trial.”
Additionally, court documents also revealed that Bowen is unable to afford legal representation, and since the Broward County Public Defender’s Office is seeking to withdraw from the case, questions are circulating about who will now represent him.
Metayer Bowen was found dead on April 1, inside her home by officers from the Coral Springs Police Department, her body wrapped in a blanket and a trash bag, per NBC News.
Bowen was immediately named as the prime suspect in his wife’s murder, due to what he reportedly told an unidentified person who referred to Bowen as his nephew.
He allegedly admitted he shot Metayer Bowen “three times with a shotgun the previous night and then slept downstairs,” an affidavit said, adding that he “couldn’t take it anymore.”
The day after Metayer Bowen’s death, on April 2, Bowen made his first court appearance. Per PEOPLE, he was charged with premeditated murder and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.
Bowen is currently in custody at the Broward County Jail without bond.
1975 Hitmaker's Go-to Room Service Meal Hailed by Dietitian as a 'Beautifully Simple' Dish for Women Over 50
To be fair, the iconic voice behind Fleetwood Mac and rock legendStevie Nicks was not always kind to her body. The legendary songstress has a complicated history of drug addiction that included heavy usage of cocaine throughout the '70s and '80s, as well as a prescription pill problem in the '90s. She conquered both, and neither prevented her from meeting her dietary needs, especially as she ages.
In 2011, Nicks opened up to Vanity Fairabout her life in Hawaii, which included some of her go-to favorites. One of the questions asked her to share her favorite room service meal; instead of buttery pancakes or a late-night burger, Nicks shared her rather simple but delicious favorite: "Grilled fish, steamed vegetables, and the ever-present soy cappuccino."
It's a meal that Dr. Wendy Bazilian, a registered dietitian and host of the podcast 1,000 Waking Minutes, calls a "beautifully simple, nutrient-forward meal." She also elaborated on why it's so ideal, what women over 50 can learn from it, and how to expand upon the habits a meal like this establishes.
Related: '70s Rocker Swears by This Controversial Diet, but Experts Warn Against It
What Makes a Meal Like This Ideal?"You have high-quality protein from the fish, which supports muscle maintenance and satiety; a range of vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients from the vegetables; and the soy cappuccino adds both hydration and plant-based compounds that may offer additional cardiovascular and hormonal support," explains Bazilian. "It also reflects a plant-forward approach, which can support overall energy, hormonal health, and day-to-day vitality, especially through peri- and menopause. The combination of protein, fiber, and plant compounds helps support satiety and steady energy in a way that feels both nourishing and sustaining."
She goes on to explain that meals like this are part of a healthy pattern, particularly when faced with the option of ordering in or eating out. According to the CDC, fast food habits tend to wane as we age; 11.9 percent of adults aged 40–59 get their daily calories from fast food, compared with about 15.2 percent among adults aged 20–39.
While Nicks's go-to meal is great, Bazilian emphasizes that variety is truly the key to dietary success—especially for women over 50.
"This type of meal aligns well with many evidence-based recommendations: adequate protein, a focus on whole foods, and lighter preparation methods that support digestion and overall health," Bazilian affirms. "It’s also naturally lower in added sugars and refined ingredients, which can help with metabolic health. This is also a time when supporting muscle mass, bone health, and hormonal balance becomes even more important. Ensuring adequate, high-quality protein, along with a variety of plant foods, helps deliver the nutrients needed to support these systems."
What Should Women Over 50 Be Adding to Their Diets? To ensure you're eating a well-balanced meal and staying healthy while on the road, Bazilian encourages people to lean into the essentials of Nicks's meal while introducing variety to avoid boredom. Consider options like:
- Quality Protein: Fish, lean poultry, or plant-based options like beans or lentils.
- Vegetables: At least one or two servings to provide volume and nutrients.
- Whole-Food Carbohydrates or Healthy Fats: Quinoa, smart grains, or avocado.
She also advises that healthy fats (like avocado or olive oil), nuts, seeds, and fruits and veggies between meals can help round out a diet.
"There’s no one ‘perfect’ diet for a specific age, but there are consistent ideas and approaches based on the scientific evidence: prioritize protein, include colorful plant foods for vitamins and minerals and their protective phytochemical compounds, support bone health with key nutrients like calcium and vitamin D, and stay well-hydrated," she notes. "Perhaps most importantly, choose an eating pattern that is both enjoyable and sustainable—that’s what supports health over time."
1970s Icon Ranked No. 1 ‘Greatest Country Artist of All Time’ Receives Major Tribute From Cody Johnson
Cody Johnson is paying homage to Merle Haggard with the release of “Footlights” — a cover version of the tune that was written by the late country music icon, but never released as a single.
Available now (Monday, April 6), the date of Johnson’s drop makes the reimagining of the tune even more special, as it not only marks the 10th anniversary of Haggard’s death but also coincides with his birth date, which was April 6, 1937.
The LyricsLyrically, “Footlights” paints a real-life picture of a musician’s tour life, which can bring on plenty of challenges such as loneliness, physical wear and aging, and a deep feeling of rootlessness. Johnson, the reigning CMA Male Vocalist of the Year, who is no stranger to the road himself, captures that essence fully even decades after its composition.
“I live the kind of life that most men only dream of / I make my living writing songs and singing them / But I'm forty-one years old / And I ain't got no place to go when it's over / But I'll hide my age and make the stage / And try to kick the footlights out again,” the chorus goes opening up the song’s road-warrior message.
Cody Johnson’s History With Merle HaggardThis isn’t the first time Johnson has paid tribute to the Okie from Muskogee. The “Dirt Cheap” singer, who has opened for his hero and even received an autographed guitar from him, has covered Haggard’s songs numerous times, including in 2023 for his CMT Christmas Special, which saw him delivering a live performance of “If We Make It Through December.”
Sharing his deep respect and appreciation for Haggard, who, in 2017, was named the “Greatest Country Artist of All Time” by Rolling Stone, in a press release, Johnson said, “Merle was a poet. When I'm happy, when I'm sad, when I'm frustrated, and everything in between, he has sung the soundtrack of my life.”
“Anything tied to Merle Haggard, with my name, is just one of the greatest honors,” the Texan further reiterated his love for the late trailblazer in an interview for On The Record on RFD-TV after receiving the 2025 Academy of Country Music Spirit Award, awarded to an artist who continues Haggard’s legacy in country music. “...I’ve probably had every Merle Haggard song ever recorded on my phone, and most days that’s what’s going on in my truck…. He’s still the only artist that has ever passed away that I’ve cried like he was a family member.”
Haggard passed away on his 79th birthday, April 6, 2016, in Palo Cedro, California.

Nancy Guthrie Breaking Update: Notes Sent to TMZ Make Shocking Claims
There has been a major update in the Nancy Guthrie case. On Monday, April 6, TMZ reported that it has received additional notes from the person who claims to have information on the person(s) behind Guthrie's kidnapping.
After receiving the initial note that asked for Bitcoin payment in exchange for information on the would-be kidnappers back in February, TMZ chose to share limited details with the public, sending the note directly to the FBI at the time. Then, TMZ reported receiving additional notes, apparently from the same sender, who claimed to have information about Guthrie's whereabouts. The sender asked for 1 Bitcoin for the information, but the FBI didn't bite.
TMZ received yet another ransom note from a repeat sender this morning concerning the abduction of Nancy Guthrie, as viewers watched Savannah make her return to the "Today" show anchor desk. pic.twitter.com/F26OvcvulE
— TMZ (@TMZ) April 6, 2026Now, the outlet says it has received additional notes, presumably from the same person, and they came today—the same day that Savannah Guthrie returned to her post at Today.
"I saw her alive with them in the state of Sonora Mexico," one note read, in part. TMZ also confirmed that in the first note it received from the unknown source clearly stated "she is dead."
In the first note sent today, TMZ says, the person stated, "It's unbelievable that millions have been wasted and yet here I am willing to deliver them on a silver platter since the 11th of February for a bitcoin but I am disregarded as a scam … they are free and the case is frozen but the ego's (sic) remain hot when it comes to me. Arrogance at it's finest."
The sender also said that he or she has been living outside the U.S. for more than five years and doesn't want to be associated with the "horrific crime" that took place. They simply want their money—half a Bitcoin up front and the other half after the information checks out.
In the second note, the sender said, "I just want whats fair and to live peacefully with enough to start my life again quietly with out having to join a witness protection program."
Nancy, 84, has been missing since Sunday, Feb. 1. Her home in the Catalina Foothills of Arizona is about 70 miles north of Mexico's border.
