Taylor Swift Hugs Kardashian Family Member 17 Years After VMAs Drama—and Fans Are Stunned
You don't have to be chronically online to know that Taylor Swiftand the Kardashian family, particularly Swift and Kim Kardashian, have bad blood. At the 2009 MTV VMAs, Kanye West, who has since legally changed his name to Ye, famously interrupted Swift during her acceptance speech. What followed was a years-long, at times very public skirmish between Swift, West and Kim Kardashian.
Their schism has been commented on, sometimes vaguely and sometimes quite directly, by all parties involved, and Kim's mom, Kris Jenner, asking what would happen if Kim simply "called Taylor up" has become a widely known internet meme. Swift's 2024 album The Tortured Poets Department also drew speculation from fans with the song "thanK you aIMee," particularly because the formatting of the song title seemed to indicate the name Kim.
Given this context, fans can hardly be blamed for their shock when, after the New York Knicks game on June 10, Swift was seen on video saying hello to and hugging Kim's youngest sister, Kylie Jenner.
In the video, which has since gone viral, the two stars can be seen making eye contact, and it seems like Swift is the one to initiate the interaction, which includes exchanging waves, greetings and a hug. Kylie can then be heard commenting on how "crazy" the game was.
@thesportsishTaylor + Kylie celebrating the Knicks win @ESPN
♬ original sound - Sports(ish)The comments are full of shocked reactions, with one person saying, "this might be more shocking than the knicks win," and another commenting, "u won't understand how big this is unless you're into pop culture." Another commenter jokes, "knicks bringing world peace."
However, some in the comments are also pointing out that this may be in part by nature of their respective (and at times overlapping) friend groups.
One comment regarding that possibility reads, "1. they dont have beef with each other, 2. their friend groups can be interconnected and honestly its a relatively small circle. 3. they are both well mannered women who acts with class during public interactions."
Even so, most of the comments reflect a state of shock, with multiple people asking if it is AI and many comments saying this was not on their "2026 bingo card."
The Rock Spent 24 Hours Wondering if He Had Cancer — And Didn’t Say a Word to His Wife
In a new interview with Esquire, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson opened up about a recent health scare.
It was like any other Friday when Johnson found a lump in one of his testicles that was "really painful." That Monday, he went to the doctor to have it checked out. The doctor explained that the lump could have been epididymitis but it could have also been cancer—there was no way of knowing until the test results came back.
Johnson would spend the next 24 hours wondering whether or not he had cancer.
"I had to live with that for those twenty-four hours, not knowing—and I had to be on all day, joking around, making speeches," he told Esquire. "I didn’t even tell Lauren,” he says of his wife, whom he's been married to for seven years. “I didn’t want to worry her before I knew if it was anything to even worry about."
Johnson received his results and he does not have cancer.
"I’m fine. But I didn’t know that then, and the thing was really painful," he said.
Johnson was diagnosed with epididymitis, which is described as "inflammation of the coiled tube, called the epididymis, at the back of the testicle," according to the Mayo Clinic. The often painful condition can be caused by an STI, trauma, or an infection. Most patients make a full recovery following a round of antibiotics.

This Arizona Destination Was Just Named the Best Place to Try 'Star Bathing'
Outdoor destinations are seeing a rise in popularity for specialized retreats, particularly in national parks that offer the clearest views of the night sky. Think Sedona (Arizona) or Joshua Tree (California); these desert escapes were ranked by BookRetreats’ newly released State of Retreats 2026 Reportamong the top destinations for "star bathing."
What Is Star Bathing?Seeking new ways to unplug and achieve more natural wellness, Gen X and Gen Z are among the travelers driving the trend in after-dark experiential activities, according to Book Retreat's State of Retreats Report. These two generations are exploring a more still approach to de-stressing through 'star bathing', which the report describes as "the practice of being present under the stars.'
Star bathing is not a new phenomenon, as the idea is based on forest bathing, and celestial bathing practices are known to be rooted across cultures for generations. Modern studies reinforce this concept; the Journal of Environmental Psychology is cited in the report, confirming that "a greater connection to the night sky is positively linked to mental health, happiness, and an increased sense of awe and purpose." But let's be real, a clear night sky full of stars—without city light pollution—is just amazing.
Where are the best places to go Star Bathing? View this post on InstagramThe number one spot goes to Sedona, Arizona, which is recognized as the top destination for nighttime wellness. Places such as Dark Sky Lofts offer special glamping packages, complete with luxury amenities for rest and private balconies with views of the sky. Over at Sedona Vortex Adventures, more spiritual sessions are curated, including chakra tours and shamanic vortex ceremonies.

The rest of the top natural nighttime spots most frequently visited are rounded out with notable parks across the country. Over at Joshua Tree, there's the Kosmic Tortoise, where you can stargaze in a geodesic dome or book a sound bath under the stars excursion through Marriott in the area. In Colorado, immersion has become a big part of noctourism. Near the Great Sand Dunes National Park, Kosmos is a resort that has soft opened with spacious villas. The complex offers guided stargazing with telescopes as part of its amenities, along with cozy geodesic dome suites with hot spring access.
Then, of course, if you're interested in a more traditional camping approach, you can scope out those locations, as well as other dark-sky scenic drives. Other popular dark-sky locations include Asheville (North Carolina), Ketchum (Idaho), Moab (Utah), and Teton County (Wyoming).
Steven Spielberg Reveals He Walked Away From 'Harry Potter' to Work on a Stanley Kubrick Project
One of Stanley Kubrick's passion projects was left up to Steven Spielbergafter his death in 1999 from a heart attack. The E.T. director reveals he was in the midst of leading another hit film franchise, Harry Potter, when he left to fulfill the late director's wish.
In a clip from Turner Classic Movies, Spielberg opened up about what led him to turn down directing the first installment of the J.K. Rowling movie franchise. A.I.: Artificial Intelligence was years in the making by Kubrick before his death and its 2001 release. Spielberg reveals that he was asked to finish the film as the late director intended.
"There was no script and after his death, then I was at the funeral, at his home in Saint Albans. Christiane and Jan Harlan approached me about taking over from Stanley and, as Stanley intended, directing the movie," he recalled.
The Jaws director also added that Harry Potter was already on schedule to be his next big blockbuster. He had begun giving casting suggestions for some of the characters who were going to be played by older actors. In the end, Spielberg knew the film was going to be a box-office success with or without him.
"But I gave it up. It was going to be a huge movie because the book was already a runaway cultural phenomenon as a book. I gave that up to essentially do A.I." he said.
Steven Spielberg explains why he walked away from directing the first Harry Potter film, so he could take over filming AI: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE from Stanley Kubrick.
See the film tonight as the director joins us for an evening of his films. pic.twitter.com/5TgSCf3Mn4
A.I. Artificial Intelligence is based on a 1969 short story "Supertoys Last All Summer Long" by Brian Aldiss, that Kubrik bought the rights to in the late 1970s. The film became developmental hell despite Kubrick hiring a series of writers and was shelved for some time while the director worked on other projects. Reports state that Kubrick felt computer-generated imagery wasn't up to par with what he wanted to achieve for the film.
The film was soon passed on to Spielberg, with it having gained traction after Kubrick's death. Spielberg decided to stick closely to writer Ian Watson's work, with the movie being dedicated to the late director. It made over $235 million at the box office versus its $100 million budget. It's often been ranked as one of the greatest films, with anyone close to the director commenting on how Spielberg adored Kubrick.

Dolly Parton Launches New Coffee Brand to Fuel Your 9-to-5
Dolly Parton is reenergizing the 9-to-5—and no, she's not launching energy drinks or caffeinated dirty sodas (at least not yet). Instead, the country music icon is debuting her own signature coffee brand.
“I've spent a lifetime workin’ 9 to 5, 5 to 9, and every hour in between!" the 80-year-old country superstar joked in a June 11 statement. "It takes a lot of energy to pursue your passion and navigate each day. That’s why I wanted to make a coffee that works just as hard."
Dubbed Dolly's Cup of Ambition, the new release is heading out in three blends as part of a partnership with the experts at Community Coffee centered around a "shared love" of family, community, and authentic connection.

"You know, I begin each morning with a head full of dreams, a notepad full of ideas, and a cup or two of coffee," Parton teased, "Whether you’re chasing dreams, tackling that to-do list, or just enjoying a quiet morning at home, I hope it brings a smile with every sip."

Cup of Ambition will then expand nationwide, becoming available in ground and K-Cup forms through a partnership with Community Coffee. The brand expects it to be available at retail travel stops, grocery and mass market stores, and coffee shops nationwide later this year.
"Dolly embodies the same values Community Coffee was built on: hard work, warmth, and genuine connection," Donna Saurage, third-generation owner of Community Coffee, added. "This partnership felt right from the very first conversation, and Cup of Ambition is something our family is truly proud and honored to put our name behind."

What's Actually Inside the Margarita Glasses on Netflix's ‘Sweet Magnolias’? The Star Pours It Out
Season 5 of Sweet Magnolias just premiered on Netflix, and fans have one big question — what’s in those margarita glasses?
Well, it looks like there’s finally an answer. Show star JoAnna Garcia Swisher (who plays Maddie) opened up in an interview with Decider, spilling the tea on what really happens when the Magnolias “pour it out” on margarita night.
As it turns out, Swisher and her co-stars, Brooke Elliot (who plays Dana Sue) and Heather Headley (who plays Helen), don’t get to choose what’s in their marg glasses. Instead, according to Swisher, the props department is in charge. The actress told Decider, “It’s a very well-thought-out margarita. We get a little memo about it.”
She continued, “They’re just so creative. So I always get excited about what they’re going to look like and all that kind of stuff.”
If you’re wondering whether the Magnolia Margarita Night is the real deal, Swisher revealed, “But they’re usually like, you know, non-alcoholic. They’re kind of like mocktails. Some taste better than others; some look better than they taste. But honestly, if it looks good, that’s all that matters.”
While Swisher doesn’t have the recipes, she wouldn’t necessarily rule out a Sweet Magnolias mocktail or cocktail book, telling Decider (when asked about re-creating the recipes), “I love where your mind's at.”
But you don’t really have to wait for a guide to make the perfect Magnolia margarita. If you’re looking for something that’s more cocktail than mocktail, author Sherryl Woods, who penned the romance novels the series is based on, and chef Teddi Wohlford actually collaborated on ‘The Sweet Magnolia Cookbook,’ which includes ‘Helen’s Lethal Margaritas.’
According to the book, the secret ingredients to make the perfect Magnolia margarita include limeade concentrate and triple sec. But that’s not all. The 2023 bestseller also includes 150 recipes inspired by the hit show, such as Southern Smothered Corn Chowder, Carolina Red Rice, and Backyard Low-Country Seafood Boil. Yum!
Fans can see what Maddie’s up to in NYC and get the scoop on the rest of the gang right now. Catch Season 5 of Sweet Magnolias streaming on Netflix starting Thursday, June 11.

'90s Rock Classic Is Suddenly Climbing the Charts 35 Years Later
Nearly 35 years after its release, Pearl Jam's iconic album Ten is charting again on the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums chart.
The album, originally released on August 27, 1991, is currently sitting at the No. 18 spot on the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums chart, a list that tracks the success of the hard rock genre's greatest records. Ten ranks among several major hard rock projects, including AC/DC's 1980 album Back In Black at No. 15 and Staind's 2001 album Break The Cycle—affirming its legendary status.
Ten is currently enjoying a 194-week stay on the Hard Rock Albums chart, marking it the longest-charting album on the tally. The '90s record is considered Pearl Jam's most successful work, with an impressive feat of over 260 weeks of total charting time on the Billboard 200—a chart where it peaked at No. 2 for four consecutive weeks.
Its major chart dominance mirrors its flourishing commercial success. In total, the album has been certified 13× platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for selling over 16 million copies worldwide. Today, Ten continues to uphold its reputation as one of the greatest-selling rock albums in history.
Eddie Vedder, Mike McCready, Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard and Dave Abbruzzese of rock band Pearl Jam at Pinkpop Festival in Landgraaf, Holland, on August 6, 1992. The MTV PushWhile the album is now recognized as a defining hard rock classic, Ten was far from an overnight sensation. Following its release, the record started off as a slow seller, only finding mainstream success through the music video program MTV. After relentless touring and heavy MTV rotation, the album experienced a significant tick in listener demand, and suddenly the once-underground record was playing on every radio station.
The album's current relevance can be traced back to its '90s catalyst. Although MTV has faded in relevance as the digital era has evolved, social media platforms have been passed the torch when it comes to keeping the flames of many iconic albums ignited.
With the addition of music-focused features, social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram have become a major source to determine what is popular. Since the apps' rise in influence, Pearl Jam has seen many Ten songs resurface with a new audience. On TikTok, songs such as "Black," "Even Flow" and "Alive" have experienced massive traction, with audios inspiring thousands of user-generated videos.
On modern streaming platforms, the record's performance is just as dominant. On Spotify alone, it has accumulated over 2.4 billion streams in total. Ten continues to win over fresh waves of listeners, proving the timeless appeal of Pearl Jam's signature sound.

Kohl’s Chic Floor Lamp Is Giving Urban Loft Vibes, and Shoppers Say They Get ‘Lots of Compliments’ on It
Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.
Modern farmhouse gets plenty of love. Midcentury modern practically has its own fan club. But can we take a moment to appreciate the cool cousin of the design world: the urban loft aesthetic? It's the decor equivalent of someone who always looks stylish without trying too hard.
Urban loft style is rooted in old warehouses and industrial spaces that were transformed into homes, and it embraces those architectural bones rather than hiding them. Think along the lines of exposed brick walls, steel accents, concrete surfaces, oversized windows and open floor plans. The best urban loft interiors balance those rugged elements with warm woods, soft textiles, vintage finds and statement pieces.
The vibe is sophisticated but relaxed, and also a little edgy. It's where a sleek leather chair can sit comfortably next to a reclaimed wood table, and where lighting isn't just functional—it's part of the character of the room. That's where this Brightech Teardrop Standing Floor LED Light from Kohl's comes into play perfectly. Because urban loft style tells a story, mixing old and new in a way that feels collected rather than decorated.

Shop It!With its clean lines and industrial-inspired details, this lamp features three distinctive cage-style shades that give it a modern look while helping spread light throughout a room. The trio of light heads makes it especially handy for everything from curling up with a good book to tackling crafts. It also comes with three LED bulbs, so it's ready to cast a glow right out of the box.

Now, with that being said, Kohl's shoppers say the included light bulbs are bright, like, really bright. Some might consider them a little too bright, admitting they swapped them out for something a little more ambient and a lot less stadium lighting.
"Love this lamp," wrote a reviewer. "Would have given it a 5 star if it hadn't been for the light bulbs. They were way too bright. Had to buy new ones."
Another customer says, "Lots of compliments; worth the money."
While Kohl's typically offers a ton of different store coupons, you can't use any of them on this particular lamp (womp, womp). However, you can still earn Kohl's Cash on the purchase to use at a later date. In fact, you'll earn a total of $20 in Kohl's Cash on this lamp alone, and that's nothing to scoff at.

‘Killing Eve’ Star Jodie Comer Wore a Sheer Lace Dress and Set the Red Carpet on Fire
Jodie Comer skyrocketed to fame on the hit series Killing Eve, but now she's killing it on the red carpet in a sheer dress.
Comer, 33, hit the big time in the BBC spy thriller series opposite Sandra Oh, in which she played an assassin who becomes fixated on the MI6 agent who is tracking her. Since she completed her role on the series, Comer has done everything from heavy theater roles to 28 Years Later. But on the red carpet at the premiere of A24's The Death Of Robin Hood, it was Comer's sheer lace outfit that got people talking. Working the red carpet like an absolute pro, the blonde goddess stunned in black with the unusual dress.

Check out the trailer for The Death of Robin Hood, which stars Comer alongside Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett, and Noah Jupe, below:
Comer is Making Wise Professional ChoicesWhile Comer rose to international fame on television, she’s making smart choices when it comes to what films she works on these days. Last year, she opened up to British GQ about how some of her previous work wasn’t as emotionally challenging as she wished. More specifically, 2021’s Free Guy starring Ryan Reynolds. While she had a great time working on the film, it just wasn’t the right choice for her professionally.
“It was my first film and I had the most amazing experience on that job — they were just the most gentle, inclusive, supportive people, and it was incredibly fun,” she explained. “But I realized, when I was coming home, Ah, there’s something I’m not feeling. I feel like I’m not stretching. Or not discovering. And I realized that it was the emotional part of it. I wasn’t exercising [that] part of myself.”
Ultimately, Comer said she wants to challenge herself more.
“If the instincts aren’t there, if I’m not excited by it, then I just don’t want to go near it because then I’m pulling from an artificial place,” she noted. “It feels almost dishonest with myself.”

2026 Novel Perfect for ‘Final Destination 3’ Fans Has Been Named One of the Best Thrillers of the Year by Amazon
There are certain movies that stand out for the rest of time, leaving us rethinking our life choices moving forward. Final Destination 3 is one of them, as it stopped a generation of us loving rollercoasters as much as we used to. Now, The Drop by S.R. Masters is doing the same.
Amazon recently announced its best books of 2026 so far, and The Drop landed in 15th place for Best Mysteries, Thrillers, and Suspense. It’s one of those novels that went a little under the radar, but it’s the perfect summer read, and you will need to check it out right away.
Whether it’s Final Destination 3 or the first season of 9-1-1 that put you off rollercoasters, this novel is likely to do the same. What would you do if a rollercoaster malfunctioned 650ft in the air? And it’s a place where nobody can hear you scream!
That’s exactly what happens to Cady Ellison, an online theme park influencer, who is invited to the opening of a brand-new theme park. Of course, her old friend, Danny, would love to use her influence to get people to his new business, and there’s all the buzz around the record-breaking 650ft tall adventure called Hysteria.
It seems like a fun experience and a wild ride, but things take a complete turn when Cady finds out the theme park is only half complete. That should have been the first sign to walk away, but Danny has gone out of his way to create an exclusive experience. Maybe someone should have thought about what to do when the ride gets stuck!
There are multiple timelines as the story goes on, as the group of friends need to work out the intricacies of their past if they want to get free from the ride before the sweltering sun rises with no help coming.
While The Drop was released in April 2026, it did go under the radar. This has more of a summer feel, especially considering the theme park setting.

Bo Derek may have risen to stardom running on the beach in 10, but she's more stunning than ever on the red carpet at 69 years old.
Derek started working as a child but had her breakthrough role in 1979’s 10, which featured that iconic scene of her running on the beach. In later years, she made us laugh alongside Chris Farley and David Spade in Tommy Boy. But in a new red carpet appearance, Derek looked absolutely stunning at the opening of Villa Remus "The View" in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Wearing a cream-colored silk suit, Derek is still every bit the blonde beauty she was decades ago.

“…Right now, if I’m home, I wake up, make coffee, feed the horses, feed the dogs, feed myself, go to my computer, work in the garden, swim in the pool for exercise and then feed horses, feed dogs, feed ourselves,” she toldVariety back in 2020. “John and I watch Jeopardy while we eat and then we watch movies all night.”
No matter how they spend their time, it’s safe to say that Derek is so in love with Corbett, more than 20 years on.
“It’s that twinkle in his eye. His humor. He has a lot of joy in him and I feed off of it,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “The simplest things can make him so happy, so he makes my day brighter because of that, too. And he’s got a wicked sense of humor.”

Taylor Swift Gets Emotional Discussing Her Viral 'Toy Story 5' Song: 'Don't Mind Me'
As Taylor Swift's new song "I Knew It, I Knew You" continues to perform remarkably well among listeners, the 36-year-old singer is shedding light on her own thoughts for the song's inspiration.
Appearing on Wednesday's episode of Good Morning America, Swift spoke about her work on "I Knew It, I Knew You" as well as her overall impressions of Toy Story 5, the new Pixar film that helped influence her latest chart-topping single.
In particular, Swift expressed her appreciation for Toy Story's chief musician Randy Newman for giving her the opportunity to write a song for the film, paving the way to the latest single from the award-winning pop star.
"I felt wonderful knowing that I had Randy's blessing to write for this film given that I'm the first songwriter to get to partake in the Toy Story world outside of Randy," Swift said. "I was absolutely dazzled by it. It is my favorite Toy Story movie."
During her interview, Swift was seen wiping a small tear from her eye when discussing the film.
"Don't mind me," she explained. "Just really liked the movie."
Swift hasn't shied away from discussing just how meaningful the film proved to be for her from a personal standpoint. She also talked a lot about influence on her new song, "I Knew It, I Knew You," a country-inspired single that positions itself from the perspective of Toy Story 5's main character, Jessie (voiced by Joan Cusack).
"Writing this song felt like a musical departure and coming home at the same time," Swift wrote of the track on Instagram earlier this month. "Creating something for Jessie was a new challenge and also felt like second nature all at once. And being a @toystory kid from the age of 5 til now… is an adventure I plan to be on, to infinity and beyond."
We Ran the Numbers on Dave Ramsey's $1 Million Car Warning — He Was Actually Too Conservative
Dave Ramsey, host of The Ramsey Show, recently released a clip where he slams Americans for losing $1 million to new cars. Ramsey isn’t talking to the super wealthy elite; he’s talking to everyday Americans who could be putting their money to better use.
🚀 Parade's daily newsletter delivers the best stories straight to your inbox 🚀
View this post on Instagram New Cars Lose Value QuicklyAccording to Kelley Blue Book, a new car can depreciate up to 20% in the first year and 60% in the first five years. As of September 2025, CNBC reports that average new-car prices have reached $50,000. Within the first year, the value drops to $40,000, and after five years, it is only $20,000.
The average length of a car loan, according to NerdWallet, is 68 months (5.5 years), with an average payment of $941.36. Putting all those numbers together, you’ll see that by the time you pay off your new car, you’ll have lost $30,000 in value and also paid interest on your loan.
Ramsey says the depreciation numbers are only part of the problem, and not the biggest one that should concern you.

What A Car Costs In 2026Instead of buying the new car for $50,000, you could’ve purchased a used car for just over half the price. With payments reduced to around $489.51, you have a difference of $451.85. This is where Ramsey’s investment logic really comes into play.
View the 2 images of this gallery on the original articleI plugged the numbers into NerdWallet’s investment calculator. Let’s look to see if Ramsey’s assessment adds up.
Was Ramsey Right?Let’s start from scratch and invest the $450 in savings from the first month we buy our used car. We will invest the same amount monthly for 45 years, the typical amount of time most people spend in their careers.
We will estimate a modest 6% rate of return with interest compounding daily. By the end of that investment, our total will be $1,252,556. Ramsey’s estimate is actually under the projected return. However, a 6% rate of return is extremely modest.
According to NerdWallet, the average rate of return, measured by the S&P for the last century, has been closer to 10% annually. If we plug that number into our calculator, then our return jumps significantly to $4,825,082! That’s almost 5 times Ramsey’s estimate!
Taking into consideration market downturns and years you can't contribute, the total amount you could’ve gained is still enormous.
New cars are nice to have, but continuing to purchase them may actually be the single biggest problem standing between you and a million-dollar future.

Simu Liu Jumps to 'Heated Rivalry' Star Hudson Williams' Defense Amid Photo Controversy
After an old high school picture of Heated Rivalry star Hudson Williams resurfaced, the actor has been receiving some heat.
The picture shows Williams covered in markings, including what appears to be a swastika on his forehead. In an interview with TMZ, a source close to the actor said that Williams was unaware of what was being drawn on him.
While some called it “dumb things” done by underage kids, others have expressed serious concern over the photo. A source said that Williams deeply regrets the hurt he may have caused.
Now, a recent post on Instagram Threads finds Marvel actor Simu Liu seemingly defending Hudson Williams amidst the controversy.
“Soo I have this very specific trauma attached to people on the internet fabricating things about me and twisting things into a massive hate campaign when I first broke out,” Liu said on Threads. “I began to recognize patterns whenever people of colour specifically had a moment of visibility. It happened like clockwork and I see it happening now. The internet is insane. Bad actors are everywhere. If you’re here, be careful. Be smart.”
Many replied to Liu’s Threads post with support for the actor.
“We adore you and we adore Hudson,” one fan commented.
Liu responded, saying, “I thoroughly appreciate it.”
“Simu thank you so much for being such a positive voice and light for Hudson,” another user said. “Your words mean more to this community than you know. I will, as well as so many others on this app, continue to use my voice to get the right message across and speak love above the hate. Thank you, you're amazing.”
Liu was under fire in 2022 for a tweet that some called insensitive after Batgirl’s cancellation. Later that year, Liu said that work accolades aside, he was going through one of “the toughest stints” of his life.
“This kind of life is maybe the most perilous in this day and age where anyone can write anything about you, true or not, and still have it reach thousands of ears on the internet,” Liu said at the time. He went on to say that he has read tabloids about himself that “have been twisted horribly or are just flat out false.”

Ellen Travolta Explains Why ‘Joanie Loves Chachi’ Failed 43 Years Ago
Ellen Travolta shared her thoughts on Joanie Loves Chachi and why the short-lived sitcom never stood a chance.
The actress, who played Chachi’s (Scott Baio) mother, Louisa Delvecchio, on the doomed Happy Days spinoff, recently appeared on The Scott Baio podcast, where the former co-stars looked back on what went wrong.
Baio, 65, noted that he and Travolta “clicked,” and she agreed they had “great chemistry” when they played the mother and son on the 1980s ABC comedy series.
But when asked if she liked the show, Travolta admitted she thought the entire premise of Happy Days lovebirds Joanie (Erin Moran) and Chachi’s new life as musicians in Chicago set the series up for failure.
“You know what I thought was a mistake is they should have just let it …It shouldn't have been you guys, the marrying, the whole thing… Nobody cares,” Travolta, 86, said. “They want the tension. They want the breakup. They want the thing.”
“I always thought the two of us should have spun off and then bring all the other characters,” Travolta told Baio. “They tied it up in a package that you would lose interest.”
Baio also admitted that he had major regrets about the series.
“I actually regret doing that show. Because it was destined to fail,” he said of Joanie Loves Chachi. “You're right. It had nowhere to go. The singing aspect of it, to me, was I didn't care. You know what I mean? I know that was the thing at the time. And you're right, you and I and even if Al, you know, the great Al Molinaro… you know us moving to Chicago… that would have been a much more interesting show.”
Baio further explained that the vibe on the Joanie Loves Chachi set was “not great” because Moran seemed unhappy, as he was.
“It just fizzled,” he said of the show. “It didn't do anything. … It had nowhere to go.”
Travolta agreed, adding, “And that's it. They just tied it all up, you know.”
Joanie Loves Chachi aired from March 23, 1982, to May 24, 1983, for just 17 episodes before ABC canceled it. After the sitcom focused on the singing career of Happy Days characters Joanie Cunningham and Chachi Arcola failed, the characters returned to Happy Days where they got married on the 1984 series finale.
Baio once told The AV Club that Joanie Loves Chachi was “such a fiasco” after the original writers left after four episodes.
“We were stuck with new writers who didn't know us,” the actor said. “It just sort of all crumbled and fell apart. In retrospect, if given the choice again, I would not have done that show. That was just the wrong idea. If I had to do it all over again, I would've waited 'til Happy Days was over until I did anything else.”
