Trader Joe’s Lawsuit Settlement Checks Are Coming—Are You Eligible?

Thu, 04/16/2026 - 3:33pm

A Trader Joe's lawsuit settlement means that many customers who purchased from the chain in certain locations can expect a check in the coming months.

According to People, the Trader Joe's settlement is in response to a lawsuit filed in 2019.

The lawsuit alleged that Trader Joe's violated an amendment to the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA). The issue was that some stores printed 10 digits of the customers' credit or debit card numbers on the receipts.

The purchases in question were made at certain stores between March 5 and July 19 2019. There does not appear to be a list of those specific stores available.

According to the website Top Class Actions, FACTA requires that merchants omit or limit all digits of credit or debit cards except a maximum of the last five. In addition, the expiration date should not appear on the receipt at all.

The 2019 class action lawsuit was initiated by Brian Keim. He alleged that during that time frame, some Trader Joe's receipts printed 10 digits from customers' cards rather than the maximum of 5.

The website pertaining to the Keim v. Trader Joe's Company lawsuit indicated that the receipts in question included the first six digits of the cards along with the last four. No other identifiable customer information was included on the receipts.

Trader Joe's "vigorously denies any and all liability or wrongdoing whatsoever" and noted that this issue did not happen at all of its stores.

Despite denying any liability, Trader Joe's indicated that its insurer "has nonetheless concluded that further litigation would be protracted and expensive, and has taken into account the uncertainty and risks inherent in this litigation, and has determined that it is desirable that the litigation be fully, completely, and finally settled in the matter."

What does this mean for Trader Joe's customers?

The proposed settlement fund is $7.4 million. Those who want to file a claim need to do so by June 9. As People noted, the payouts are estimated to be in the amount of $102.45 for each qualifying claim.

Those who have a Class ID number can submit their claim via the settlement website or by phone. According to KARE 11, Class ID numbers were sent, via email or mail, to some people who were determined to potentially have been affected.

Those who do not have a Claim ID number can print a claim form from the settlement website. They will need to submit the first six and last four digits of the card used, as well as the purchase date.

To file a claim for the lawsuit settlement, Trader Joe's customers have several options available to them.

  • Online: Visit www.TJ-FACTASettlement.com
  • By phone: Call 1-888-444-7415
  • By mail: Send a completed claim form to: Keim v. Trader Joe's Settlement Administrator, P.O. Box 301134, Los Angeles, CA, 90030-1134

An August 10 court hearing is scheduled to review and approve the settlement. Checks to those with approved claims will be sent out after that.

Angie Harmon Feeds Her Pet Squirrel as It Crawls in Her Home’s Window: ‘Coming by for Her Daily Visit'

Thu, 04/16/2026 - 3:30pm

Angie Harmon is feeding her pet squirrel as it crawls through the window of her home.

The actress, 53, who rose to fame during the ’90s on Baywatch Nights and Law and Order, earned acclaim for her role as Jane on TNT’s Rizzoli & Isles. A mother of three, the brunette beauty has also dipped her toes into directing and producing. But if there’s one thing that sticks out from her social media, it’s definitely her love of animals. In a new video posted to her Instagram page, the animal lover shows one of her beloved pet squirrels crawling into the window of her house for a mid-day snack.

"Emmy coming by for her daily visit/snack! 💝🐿️💝 #squirrelmom," Harmon captioned the video.

Harmon's Holiday Photo With a Squirrel

In a holiday photo, Harmon shared a hilarious picture of herself and one of her pet squirrels wearing Santa hats.

“Found a new assistant for the holidays. He works for peanuts 🤣 Merry Christmas y’all ❤️🎅🏼🎄🐿️ #christmas2025✨️❣️🎄,” she captioned the photo, which showed the actress sporting jeans and a sweater as she sat in front of the camera with the squirrel sitting on her shoulder.

Back in October, Harmon posted a video with her little friend, a rescued squirrel named Simeon.

“What are you doing, little man? He’s having his lunch,” Harmon told the camera as the squirrel sat on her shoulder and nibbled from its food. “Just a little bit of a snack. Oh my god, he’s so cute and precious. Little Simeon. Sweet baby boy. I love him.”

Despite having a rodent friend on her shoulder, Harmon managed to look chic throughout the video. Sporting minimal makeup and oversized black glasses, the natural beauty was as beautiful as ever.

“Snack time with tiniest troublemaker 🐿️❤️ Simeon is doing GREAT!! 💕 #squirrelmom#squirrelrescue,” Harmon captioned the video.

View this post on Instagram She Has a History of Bringing Squirrels Home

In 2023, Harmon opened up to PEOPLE about a different squirrel, a 3-month-old one named Thomas.

“I mean, when he opened his eyes, the first thing he saw was me,” Harmon told the publication. “So my youngest daughter found him on the sidewalk, and there was no tree to put him on.”

While they put him under a tree and waited for his mother to return, she never did.

“So, I was like, ‘Okay, I’ll come get him,’” Harmon said. “And then I’ve had him ever since.”

Harmon would get up every hour and a half to feed the squirrel, and said she didn’t sleep for a month. She called the experience “brutal.”

As Thomas grew up, Harmon would show him off to social media and hold him as she did her makeup.

'Spaceballs: The New One' Promises More 'Star Wars' Spoof Hilarity

Thu, 04/16/2026 - 3:15pm

Spaceballs (1987) is widely regarded as one of the funniest comedy movies of all time, and the Mel Brooks classic is finally getting a sequel after four decades: Spaceballs: The New One.

Unlike Brooks' other fan favorite film, History of the World, Part I, the Spaceballs sequel will be a theatrical movie, not a streaming series.

The Star Wars spoof is so beloved that even Star Wars creatorGeorge Lucas loved it, giving Brooks his blessing and even having his own company handle the movie's special effects.

A sneak peek of The New One was screened at CinemaCon in April 2026, presented by director Josh Greenbaum and a panel of its stars, including father-son duo Bill Pullman and Lewis Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, Josh Gad and, perhaps most excitingly, Rick Moranis. (More on all of that below!)

Gad is a co-writer of the film, along with Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez.

“Early days still, but working with the legendary Mel freaking Brooks to make something worthy of this franchise and his legacy has been a dream come true,” Gad wrote on Instagram in June 2024. He added that the Spaceballs 2 team was “doing everything in our power alongside Mel to make sure you get what you've waited 37 long years for. EVERYTHING.”

Here's everything to know about Spaceballs: The New One so far, but beware of (very minor) possible spoilers ahead. May the Schwartz be with you!

Is Spaceballs 2 actually happening?

Yes! The long-awaited sequel wrapped production after nearly 40 years since the release of the original.

What is the Spaceballs 2 movie title?

Brooks starred in a teaser video from Amazon MGM Studios released at CinemaCon in April 2026 announcing the official title of the sequel—and it's not what his character Yogurt initially predicted in the original.

"I have a major announcement: Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money is not going to be the title of this movie," Brooks animatedly said with a chuckle. "Why not? Because after all these years, I found the money. There it is! It was in my basement."

He added that people have approached him for decades asking, "When are you gonna make the new Spaceballs? When are you gonna make the new one?"

"Well, we did it," he says triumphantly in the clip. And the title is Spaceballs: The New One."

Moranis returns for his first movie appearance in three decades as the parody of Darth Vader. The beloved star of Ghostbusters; Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and Little Shop of Horrors walked away from Hollywood to care for his family after his wife died from breast cancer in 1991.

He told The Hollywood Reporter in 2015, "I was working with really interesting people, wonderful people. I went from that to being at home with a couple of little kids, which is a very different lifestyle. But it was important to me. I have absolutely no regrets whatsoever. My life is wonderful."

He previously reprised the role of Dark Helmet on the small screen in a cameo in a 2018 Spaceballs-themed episode of The Goldbergs.

A teaser for Spaceballs: The New One aired at CinemaCon in April 2026, but hasn't yet been released publicly. In the clip, Lord Dark Helmet (Moranis) stands at a urinal when a much taller Na'vi man from Avatar comes into bathroom and stands at the much larger urinal next to him.

Dark Helmet tells the Na'vi man—in the Na'vi language—"I see you," the group's way of essentially saying "I love you" in the Avatar films, then puts on 3D glasses to stare at the Na'vi man's groin.

Is Spaceballs appropriate for kids?

The original Spaceballs features some colorful language and jokes that may not be appropriate for very young children (though a lot of the innuendo will likely fly right over their heads anyway). It's rated PG.

No rating has been revealed yet for Spaceballs: The New One, so it remains to be seen how kid-friendly it'll be. That said, writers Hernandez and Samit previously worked on family-friendly films including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, The Addams Family 2 and Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, so it may be OK—time will tell, so watch this space for updates!

Who is Princess Leia in Spaceballs?

Zuniga plays Princess Vespa, the Spaceballs universe of Leia, who was played by Carrie Fisher in the Star Wars franchise.

Who is Barf a parody of? John Candy as Barf in "Spaceballs"

MGM

In the original 1987 film, John Candy starred as Lone Starr's co-pilot and BFF, Barf. Barf is a "mawg," a half-man-half-dog hybrid, and a parody of Chewbacca, Han Solo's right-hand Wookiee.

What song is Barf listening to in Spaceballs?

In the original Spaceballs, Barf listens to the song "Raise Your Hands" by Bon Jovi.

Who will play Barf Jr. in Spaceballs 2? Chris Candy

Photo by Michael Buckner on Getty Images

Candy's son, Chris Candy, was rumored to take on the role of Barf Jr. in Spaceballs: The New One, but there was never any official confirmation of that. (Beware of a potential spoiler just ahead!)

In the first footage shown at CinemaCon 2026, it appeared that Gad would be the new "mawg."

Who will play Lone Starr in Spaceballs 2?

Bill Pullman will reprise his role as the Han Solo parody, and his son Lewis Pullman will play Lone Starr's son, Starburst (yes, like the candy).

What movies are spoofed in Spaceballs?

The original Spaceballs is largely a parody of the original Star Wars trilogy, but also has references to The Wizard of Oz, Star Trek, Planet of the Apes, 2001: A Space Odyssey and Alien.

Spaceballs: The New One, so far, mocks more of the Star Wars films, as well as the Harry Potter franchise, Hollywood mergers, the bizarrely phallic billionaire space race, and, at least in one scene, James Cameron'sAvatar franchise.

Nancy Guthrie Update: DNA Evidence Development Could Crack Case With New Technology

Thu, 04/16/2026 - 3:15pm

Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie‘s mom, Nancy Guthrie, is still missing more than 10 weeks after she was abducted from her Tucson, Ariz., home—and in a new development involving DNA evidence, a sample from the 84-year-old's home has been sent to the FBI from a Florida lab.

On Thursday, April 16, ABC 7 reported that a private Florida lab working with the Pima County Sheriff's Department sent the DNA sample to the FBI within the past few days.

Reportedly, the FBI is using new technology for advanced analysis on the sample, in hopes of identifying the perpetrator in Nancy's kidnapping.

A Pima County Sheriff's Department spokesperson told Fox News Digital that the department has been "sharing a lot of things" with the FBI lab since the investigation into Nancy disappearance began.

Additionally, NewsNation Senior National Correspondent Brian Entin reported via X about the latest DNA evidence development. Entin shared that the sample "includes hairs found in Guthrie’s home."

Some DNA evidence from Nancy Guthrie’s home has been sent to the FBI’s lab for advanced analysis. I am told the evidence includes hairs found in Guthrie’s home.

This comes after evidence has already been tested through a Florida lab the Pima County Sheriff's Office uses.

In February, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said that DNA evidence from Nancy's home was "mixed," meaning it contained genetic material from more than one person.

"Our lab tells us that there are challenges with it," Nanos told NBC Nightly News of the Florida lab, per Fox News. "The technology is moving so fast and in such a frenzy that they think some of this stuff will resolve itself just in a matter of weeks, months, or maybe a year."

Nancy was last seen at her Catalina Foothills residence on the evening of Jan. 31. As of writing, no suspect has been named, despite Savannah offering a $1 million reward in exchange for information leading to her mother's recovery.

Measuring 40 inches in diameter and 29 inches high, this circular table is small enough to fit in homes with limited space, but spacious enough to seat four people comfortably. Some reviewers even mentioned that they could fit six chairs around it when entertaining. Though the tabletop can withstand up to 220 pounds, it's not so heavy that it can't be easily moved when rearranging furniture.

This table's combination of a blonde wood top and white base gives off major farmhouse vibes. However, the aesthetic isn't overly rustic, thanks to the rounded shape and clean lines. 1987 Hit Ranked Among the ‘Best Rock Love Songs of All Time’ Became a Timeless Anthem

Thu, 04/16/2026 - 3:06pm

Despite being nearly 40 years old, The Cure's 1987 hit, "Just Like Heaven," is still considered one of the most romantic songs ever released. The classic, which Billboard named the 4th best rock love song of all time, is off the band's seventh studio album, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me.

Far Out magazine reported that The Cure's Robert Smith shared how the iconic song came to be in an interview with Blender. Smith said he was inspired by his relationship with his wife, Mary Poole, who starred alongside him in the music video.

"Mary dances with me in the video because she was the girl, so it had to be her. The idea is that one night like that is worth a thousand hours of drudgery," said the musician, now 66.

In addition, he said that "Just Like Heaven" depicts "hyper-ventilating – kissing and fainting to the floor."

Smith also explained that when he wrote the song, "Mary and [he] lived in a small two-bedroomed flat in Maida Vale in North London," where his song-writing responsibilities were "self-imposed."

"I set myself a regime of writing 15 days a month, otherwise, I’d have just got up in the mid-afternoon and watched TV until the pubs opened, then gone out drinking," said Smith during the interview.

He also revealed to the publication that the song's structure is like The Only Ones' "Another Girl Another Planet," released in 1978.

“Although I didn’t realise it at the time, the structure is actually very similar to a song called ‘Another Girl Another Planet’ by The Only Ones, which I can still vividly remember hearing on the radio late at night in the mid-70s," said Smith, as reported by Far Out. "It’s one of the forgotten songs of the decade but is certainly well worth revisiting. The main difference is that as the song progressed, I introduced some different chord changes which give it that slightly melancholic feeling.”

Oreo Just Relaunched a Popular Treat With a New Recipe

Thu, 04/16/2026 - 3:05pm

Oreo makes more than just "milk's favorite cookie" nowadays, and one of its popular spinoffs just got a promising recipe refresh.

Oreo's original Cakesters—which debuted in 2007 and reimagine the iconic sandwich cookie as a whoopie pie-style snack cake—are returning to shelves with a brand-new recipe, the company shared on Thursday.

The new recipe is expected to affect all of its Cakester flavors, which will now be available in three convenient sizes.

Oreo Refreshes Its Cakesters Recipe

In an email shared with Parade on April 16, a spokesperson for the brand revealed that it had updated its Oreo Cakesters recipes to be moister than the original. What exactly Oreo changed was not clear and an ingredient list was not immediately available, but the snack company promises that the refreshed recipe has led to the development of "its softest" version yet.

Oreo's new Cakester recipe has been implemented across all current flavors, including the Original Oreo Cakesters, Golden Oreo Cakesters and Double Chocolate Oreo Cakesters. Notably, the Confetti Cake flavor, launched in December 2025, was not mentioned. Should Parade learn that it's also included in the relaunch, we will update this post.

Michael J. Fox Looks Great on the Red Carpet in First Appearance Since Tribute Video Sparked Fear He Died

Thu, 04/16/2026 - 3:05pm

Michael J. Fox is hitting the red carpet and doing just fine, several days after CNN ignited a fury of fear that the beloved actor had died.

Fox, 64, who rose to stardom on the hit sitcomFamily Ties before becoming a film star with the Back to the Future trilogy, has become a tireless advocate for Parkinson's disease, which he was diagnosed with at age 29. After CNN sent fans into a tailspin with an erroneous report that the star had passed away just a few days ago, Fox showed them who's boss this week with an appearance at "A Country Thing Happened On The Way To Cure Parkinson's," an event benefitting The Michael J. Fox Foundation at The Fisher Center for the Performing Arts in Nashville, Tennessee. Looking happy and healthy, Fox made it clear he's alive and well despite the mistake.

Why Did People Think Michael J. Fox Died?

An erroneous report by CNN, which published an article and a video titled "Remembering the life of Michael J. Fox," was accidentally published on Tuesday, NBC News reported. Soon after, the network apologized for its mistake.

"The package was published in error; we have removed it from our platforms and send our apologies to Michael J. Fox and his family," a CNN spokesperson said in a statement.

What Was Michael J. Fox's Response to Rumors He Had Died?

Fox commented on the situation with his trademark sense of humor. On his Threads account, the actor, who had a recurring role on the Apple TV comedy Shrinking this season, made it clear that he's doing just fine.

"How do you react when you turn on the TV and CNN is reporting your death?" Fox wrote. "Do you… A) switch to MSNBC, or whatever they are calling themselves these days, (B) Pour scolding hot water on your lap, if it hurts your fine, (C) Call your wife, hopefully she’s concerned but reassuring, (D) Relax, they do this once every year, (E) Ask yourself wtf?"

Fox concluded by assuring his fans and followers that he's okay.

"I thought the world was ending, but apparently it’s just me and I’m ok," he shared. "Love, Mike."

David Beckham's New Collab With Ninja Is Taking Your Coffee Game to a Gorgeous New Level

I'm not saying I need a celebrity to tell me how to make my coffee in the morning, but if that celebrity happens to be David Beckham, I'm at least going to hear him out. The idea of elevating a daily ritual with a little extra polish feels hard to resist. Coffee is already such a personal, almost sacred part of the day—why not let someone known for precision and style weigh in?

At the end of the day, most of us are just trying to get from groggy to functional with minimal effort. But there's also a growing appeal in making that process feel a bit more skillful, like you're crafting something rather than just pressing a button and hoping for the best. And if a well-designed machine and a Beckham-backed stamp of approval can help bridge that gap, it's worth a look, right?

😋😋SIGN UP to get delicious recipes, handy kitchen hacks & more in our daily Pop Kitchen newsletter🍳🍔

Which brings me to a new collaboration that's putting a stylish spin on your morning cup—the Ninja Luxe Café Pro designed by David Beckham. This is the brand's first-ever celebrity collab, and the result is a limited-edition Luxe Café Pro. It's a lot more design-forward than what you might expect from a coffee machine. Think matte black stainless steel, wood grain details and a few gold accents that give it a really rich feel.

The whole look is apparently inspired by the English countryside, but more importantly, it actually looks like something you wouldn't mind leaving out on your counter. In fact, it's kind of a showpiece if you ask me. Plus, the David Beckham-designed machine isn't a forever-available kind of thing either—it's being released in limited quantities, so it's one of those "if you're into it, don't overthink it" situations.

If you're spending close to $900 on a coffee machine, it better do more than just make a decent cup. This one pulls triple duty as an espresso maker, a filter coffee brewer and a cold brew system—all from whole beans to a finished drink. It also takes a lot of the guesswork out of the process, thanks to features like an integrated tamper that lets you press with a lever instead of fussing with it manually, and barista-assist tech that auto-calibrates settings to help you land a solid brew every time.

On top of that, there's a built-in conical burr grinder with 25 settings, which means you can fine-tune everything from a bold espresso to a smoother drip. If I lost you at the mere mention of "conical burr grinder," it's just a type of coffee grinder that crushes beans between two rough, cone-shaped surfaces (called burrs) instead of chopping them up with spinning blades. One burr stays still while the other rotates, pulling the beans down and grinding them evenly.

Overall, the Ninja Luxe Café Pro is designed for someone who wants control, not chaos, when making a beverage. And if you're looking for the same machine but with a different look, there are a total of seven new limited-edition colorways rolling out now through May across the Ninja Luxe Café Premier ( which starts at $599.99) and Pro (starting at $749.99) series. The Premier Series features Oat Milk, Ash Green and Raspberry Blush hues, while the Pro lineup adds CyberSpace and Oat Milk (along with the Beckham collaboration). Plus, two more Pro colorways—Stone & Gold and Onyx—are coming next month.

Always love having something to look forward to.

This Is Why '80s Supermodel Paulina Porizkova Rejects One Popular Compliment

Thu, 04/16/2026 - 2:41pm

Legendary supermodel Paulina Porizkova is sick of hearing that she's "still beautiful" at 61 years old, and she made a video on April 16 to explain why compliments like that are so "offensive" to her.

"The word 'still' implies in the sentence exactly what it says: Still, which means unmoving, remaining the same, unchanged," she said in the clip, which shows the makeup-free beauty getting ready for bed while wearing pink lingerie and a floral robe.

The model pointed out that when people are young, change is celebrated, but remaining the same becomes the goal when women get older. "Why is that an accomplishment that we celebrate in older women?" she said. "At some point in a woman's life, generally after she is deemed done with childbearing, women should no longer learn anything new."

View this post on Instagram

"If we still want a seat at the table in society, well, then we have to focus on being still," she concluded. "Still good-looking. Still attractive. Still beautiful. Still."

Porizkova's comments resonated with many of her fans. "Weird how no one comments to women 'still so smart!' or 'still so witty!' or 'still so creative!' or 'still so hardworking!' or 'still so kind!'… right?" wrote one commenter, while another added, "So right. I effing loathe when people say it." A third said, "Yes! I resent that word. It’s such an insult."

Porizkova rose to fame internationally in the 1980s after being discovered as a teenager in Europe and quickly moving into high-profile fashion work in Paris and New York. Her big break came when she appeared on the cover of the 1984 Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, becoming one of the youngest models ever to do it.

That attention led Porizkova to a long-running contract with Estée Lauder and dozens of covers on fashion magazines. Today, she's a model, actress, influencer and author, releasing a book calledNo Filter: The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful in 2022.

Is Ivy on 'The Bold and the Beautiful' Pregnant in Real Life?

Thu, 04/16/2026 - 2:36pm

The Bold and the Beautiful’s Ivy (Ashleigh Brewer) has been meddling in her niece Electra’s (Laneya Grace) love life like crazy on the CBS soap.

However, when she’s doing it, Ivy is either sitting down, filmed from the neck up, or has something blocking her stomach.

🎬SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox🎬

The way Ivy has been filmed lately has brought up the question of whether Brewer is pregnant in real life. After all, hiding a stomach, lots of sitting-down scenes, and filming only the face are how soaps hide an actress’ real-life pregnancy.

That is the case with Brewer. As Parade reported, Brewer and her husband Mark Bauch, who tied the knot in December 2025, are expecting their first child. Brewer and Bauch will welcome a daughter in May.

Given that Brewer is due in a few weeks, The Bold and the Beautifulfans can expect Ivy to either leave town soon or suddenly be MIA while Brewer is on maternity leave.

The preview video for The Bold and the Beautiful reveals that Electra learns that Ivy stole the letter Electra intended for Will (Crew Morrow) that could have repaired their relationship. Fans know that Ivy has been purposely keeping Electra and Will apart because she wants her niece with RJ (Brayan Nicoletti), not Will.

Since Ivy’s going to face the music for her lies and deception regarding Will and Electra, this would make the perfect opportunity for Ivy to leave town so Brewer can go on break.

It’s unclear how long Brewer will be gone, but chances are, she and Ivy won’t return until after the CBS soap has its annual summer break.

Brewer has been pretty quiet about her pregnancy, aside from the official announcement. The actress did appear on the Something to Talk About podcast in her native Australia, shortly after sharing her baby news, where Brewer admitted it’s not like she’s hiding anything, she’s just enjoying her pregnancy journey privately.

Also, the soap star has been booked and busy on the show, with Ivy remaining front and center as the nosy aunt.

The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS.

'Law & Order: Organized Crime' Canceled After 5 Seasons

Thu, 04/16/2026 - 2:34pm

Law & Order: Organized Crimeis canceled after five seasons.

On Thursday, April 16, Deadline broke the news NBC axing the Law & Order spinoff, which premiered in 2021. The show starred Christopher Meloni as Detective Elliott Stabler, a beloved character who originated on Law & Order: SVU.

In the wake of the Organized Crime news, fans flocked to social media to share their reactions. One X user admitted, "I saw this coming just based on the storylines of the show. I’m severely disappointed because IMO the past seasons have better than SVU."

Another lamented, "This was the better show outta the franchise," as someone else echoed, "Ridiculous! This was the best out of the three!"

A different indignant fan insisted, "This is bulls--t, loved this show more than SVU, the fifth season was amongst the best."

Others hoped and wondered if Organized Crime's cancellation meant that Meloni would return to SVU and reunite with Mariska Hargitay's Olivia Benson. One X user implored, "Bring Elliot back to SVU and make the show watchable again."

A second demanded, "Now bring him into SVU, it's time to get them ratings up."

Meanwhile, a different X user shared, "Stabler better be back on SVU."

Although many fans were upset over the cancellation, the news likely didn't come as a huge surprise. NBC moved Organized Crime to Peacock of Season 4, plus ratings forthe spinoff were the lowest among the active shows in the franchise.

What do you think of NBC canceling Law & Order: Organized Crime? Should Stabler return to SVU?

Best-Selling Author’s Novel Was Written in 11 Days

Thu, 04/16/2026 - 2:30pm

It takes an average of three months to a year for authors to write a novel, but books for this hit series took less than two weeks.

Georges Simenon is called one of the most prolific and successful authors of the 20th century. Known for creating the fictional detective Jules Maigret, he has published around 400 novels (including 192 under his own name), 21 volumes of memoirs and thousands of short stories under 15 different pseudonyms, selling over 500 million copies.

The Maigret series comprises 75 novels and 28 short stories featuring the iconic pipe-smoking French detective Jules Maigret. Published between 1931 and 1972 and mostly set in Paris, these atmospheric crime novels are known for their focus on human psychology rather than puzzle-solving.

The Belgian author wrote about 6000 to 8000 words a day, and could take only 11 days to write and finish a novel. Simenon once said that "I write fast because I have not the brains to write slow," and reportedly marked off on a calendar eight days for composition and three for correction.

He also had a strict production process when it came to writing all his stories. First, he would come up with the characters and list their descriptions, addresses and other personal details and place them in a large envelope. Plot lines would always come later, but the day before a writing day, he would prep his typewriter, lay out various pipes, prepare a large cup of coffee and had a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door of his office.

The following day, Simenon would wake up at dawn and write for about five hours. He never used a dictionary and didn't go back to edit his copy until days later. He also had a ritual where he wore the same shirt until the novel was finished.

Simenon was born and raised in Belgium and got his first job at 15 years old as a junior reporter at the Gazette de Liège, a right-wing Catholic newspaper. Months later, he got promoted as a crime reporter, then started his own opinion and gossip column. In the early 1920s, he served in the military and then moved to Paris, where he worked various writing and editing jobs.

In 1930, he and his family went on a tour around northern France while he was writing stories for the publication Détective, and Simenon started writing the Maigret series. He originally wrote three novels, but only Train de nuit (which translates to "Night Train" from French) was chosen and published. After returning to Paris, Simenon completed Pietr-le-Letton, the first novel in which Inspector Maigret was a fully developed character. The novel was serialised in the magazine Ric et Rac later that year, and was the first fictional work to appear under Simenon's real name.

The last Maigret novel written was Maigret et Monsieur Charles (Maigret and Monsieur Charles), published in 1972. It is the 75th novel in the series, written in February of that year and marking the final case for the famous inspector.

The character was adapted into many various media, including theater shows, TV, comics and movies. The most popular adaptations were created between 1958 and 1963, when Maigret was portrayed by French actor and friend of the author, Jean Gabin. The most recent adaptation of one of the books is the 2026 film Maigret and the Dead Lover, which is based on the 1960 novel Maigret et les Vieillards.

"Presently, forty-eight movies have been inspired of my novels. To these we should add the seven for this year, making fifty-five," Simenon said in an interview back in 1957. "My old friend Jean Gabin...is going to interpret the character of Maigret. He has signed for three Maigret films — two will be done this year, one beginning next month. I believe that Jean Gabin will be nearest to Maigret, to the idea that the public has of Maigret and, in any case, to the idea that I myself have of him."

Simenon announced his retirement from writing fiction in 1973 at the age of 70 due to ill health and exhaustion. He officially stopped writing novels, famously "unplugging his typewriter," although he continued to produce dictations for several volumes of memoirs, including his Intimate Memoirs, in 1981, and the years following. He underwent a brain operation in 1984 but made a full recovery. From late 1988, he used a wheelchair. He died on Sept. 4, 1989, in Switzerland, after suffering a fall.

1971 Power Ballad Named No. 1 Hit Song Became a Breakup Anthem

Thu, 04/16/2026 - 2:24pm

Fifty-five years ago, the iconic 1970s soft-rock group the Bee Gees topped the Billboard Hot 100 with their heartbreak anthem, "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart."

Released in 1971 as a single from their ninth studio album, Trafalgar, "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" became a massive success. Shortly after its release, it climbed up the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 1 for four consecutive weeks and claiming Top-10 positions in multiple countries. The track marked the Bee Gees' first No. 1 hit and a victorious comeback after the trio's brief split in 1969.

Aside from its chart dominance, "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" also experienced significant commercial success. The hit was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and eventually sold over 2.5 million copies globally, attesting to its ability to reach massive audiences. In 1972, the track was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

Produced by Robert Stigwood via Atco Records, "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" is recognizable for its powerful, emotive vocals and lush, swelling arrangement. The ballad's slow and intimate feel defined their pre-disco era, focusing on live acoustics and orchestral strings rather than the high-energy dance beats featured in their later work.

The song was primarily co-written by Barry and Robin Gibb and focused on themes of reconciliation, reflecting their perspectives after their tumultuous falling out. "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" explored the profound sense of longing and healing after losing a love. The group dives into introspective lyricism regarding how to end the sorrow following a heartbreak, creating a definite breakup anthem.

Even after over five decades, "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" continues to resonate with modern audiences in the streaming era. On Spotify alone, the track has accumulated over 91 million streams, affirming its ability to persevere as a breakup classic.

Target’s New Vegetable-Flavored Candy Is Firmly Dividing Shoppers

Thu, 04/16/2026 - 2:15pm

Target has developed a reputation for creating some tasty items with its store label, Good Day. Not only are they more affordable than most brand-name foods, but fans have also been impressed by their unique flavors. Red, White, and Blue Cotton Candy Cake Tub and Strawberry Mini Waffle Cones? Yes, please. But its newest flavor is causing quite a stir among Target's fan base.

Target's newest peelable gummy candy is sweet corn-flavored, and so far, it's getting mixed reviews from candy fans. On Target's website and social media, people were sharing their unfiltered thoughts.

"Opening the bag smells exactly like buttery sweet corn, and they're very delicious," wrote one person who loved the flavor. "Same great texture as any other peelable candy. If you're not at least a little adventurous I wouldn't try these, but especially if you love corn and have enjoyed or wanted to try corn-based sweets in the past these are very interesting and fun!"

Others, however, were either not as adventurous or just expecting something different.

"So disgusting," wrote another who was not thrilled with the realistic corn smell. "We all gagged and had to spit it out."

Food and beverage reviewer, Your Snack Dealer, heard that the small, corn-on-the-cob-shaped gummies tasted like green apple. Upon opening the bag, they reported smelling "100% sweet corn."

"Was it the grossest thing I have had this year?" Your Snack Dealer wrote on Facebook. "Not even close! Is it one of the weirdest things? It’s up there. They absolutely nailed the flavor … just not sure I need it in candy!"

Those who were hearing about the corn-flavored candies for the first time were divided on whether they'd be interested in trying them.

One person said that they'd skip them because they'd rather have their "corn warm and buttery on the cob." Yet despite the number of people who gave it a hard pass, another potential customer remarked that they were sold out at both their local Target and online for $4.

For those who are interested but are looking for a sure bet, KFC's collaboration with Frankford Candy has had many people salivating for months. While reactions to the fried chicken and gravy flavors have been less than stellar, the sweet corn flavor has received an enthusiastic response and is still available on Amazon.

Archaeologists Uncover Mystery Object Hidden in 2,000-Year-Old  Egyptian Child Mummy's Chest

Thu, 04/16/2026 - 2:13pm

In a discovery that’s capturing global attention, researchers studying a 2,000-year-old Egyptian mummy have uncovered a mysterious object hidden inside the chest of a young child. Using cutting-edge technology, the find is shedding new light on ancient burial practices and raising new questions about life and death in ancient Egypt.

The Discovery

The mummy, believed to date back to the Ptolemaic period (around 332–30 BCE), was not newly excavated, but rather rediscovered through modern science. It has been housed at the Archdiocesan Museum in Wrocław, Poland, for over a century, where it was first brought in 1914.

It wasn’t until recently that a team of archaeologists and scientists from the University of Wrocław conducted the first comprehensive study of the remains. Using advanced imaging techniques like CT scans and X-rays, they were able to examine the mummy without unwrapping or damaging it.

That’s when they found something unexpected: a previously undetected object, carefully placed and preserved for over 2,000 years, hidden on the child's chest.

What Is the Object?

Researchers aren’t entirely sure what the object is yet. But early analysis suggests it could be:

  • A papyrus scroll, possibly containing the child’s name
  • A protective amulet meant to guide the child in the afterlife

Both possibilities align with known ancient Egyptian burial customs, where objects were often placed with the deceased to protect them spiritually or help them navigate the afterlife.

What makes this discovery so compelling is that the object is still sealed within the mummy’s wrappings. Because the remains are extremely fragile, researchers cannot simply remove them. Instead, they are developing new non-invasive methods to further study it.

Related: 3,000 Roman Tombs Were Discovered Underneath Croatia's Oldest City

Where Did the Mummy Come From?

The scans revealed that the mummy belonged to a boy who was about eight years old at the time of his death. Although the mummy is currently in Poland, its origins lie in Egypt, specifically Upper Egypt, likely near Kom Ombo or Aswan.

Clues come from the mummy’s decorative outer casing, known as cartonnage, which features traditional Egyptian symbols like lotus flowers, rosettes, and a winged scarab. These motifs were commonly used in funerary art and help archaeologists pinpoint geographic origins.

Unfortunately, many historical records about the mummy were lost during World War II, making modern scientific analysis even more important.

Why This Discovery Matters

This finding is significant for several reasons. First, it highlights how modern technology is transforming archaeology. Without CT scans and 3D imaging, the object may have remained hidden forever.

Second, it offers new insight into ancient Egyptian burial traditions, particularly for children. The presence of a possible scroll or amulet suggests that even young individuals were given carefully prepared journeys into the afterlife.

Finally, it reminds us how much we still don’t know. Even after centuries of studying ancient Egypt, discoveries like this continue to challenge assumptions and open new avenues of research.

For now, the object remains a mystery. Researchers are continuing their work, hoping to safely uncover its secrets without damaging the mummy, and that’s what makes archaeology so fascinating: even after 2,000 years, the past still has secrets left to reveal.

Virginia’s New Housing Laws Make It a Top Spot for Tiny Home Retirees

Thu, 04/16/2026 - 2:09pm

Gov. Abigail Spanberger kicked off this week by signing a series of bills into law. And while the core details of the bills varied, most of them had a common theme: Affordability. Among the papers she signed was Senate Bill 531, which had been in the works since last year.

The bill will make it easier for Virginians to build accessory dwelling units (ADUs) on their properties next year, allowing homeowners to increase their living space. As for who will be taking up residence in that added square footage? Well, it looks like the perfect spot for seniors to fill as they hunt for more affordable housing—and a way to stay closer to family—in their retirement. Here's what you need to know about the bill.

Bill 531 Cuts the Red Tape for Tiny Homes

According to the Virginia Mercury, the governor signed the bill on April 15, 2026. The bill, which was championed by state senators Kanna Srinivasan and Saddam Salim, will take effect on July 1, 2027. This will allow people to build ADUs on their property "by-right," with permits capped at $500 each. Previously, Virginians had to deal with local municipalities when it came to building ADUs, and they typically faced high fees and a lot of hoops to jump through, all of which made construction next to impossible.

“I’m glad we’re finally moving forward with practical housing options,” Salim said after the bill was signed.

How Does Bill 531 Help Retirees

At first glance, it may be hard to see why this bill is such a win for Virginia retirees. However, once you understand all that these structures can do, it becomes a little clearer. That's because the American Planning Association says that ADUs can include:

  • Accessory apartment
  • Secondary suites
  • Granny flats
  • In-law suites

These structures can allow you to increase your living space, often adding private living quarters for other family members at a fraction of the cost they would spend if they were to move to a standalone structure. Take, for example, tiny houses. These buildings come along with all of the same comforts you'd find in your own home, including electricity and running water. And while some also have kitchens and full living quarters, many offer just enough of the essentials to give someone their own private space to retreat to, while also keeping them close enough that they can join you for meals and other common activities.

Related: These Are the 3 Worst Southern Cities for Retirement

That can be an ideal situation for retirees who want to maintain their independence while reducing their responsibilities, such as those who want to stay close to their children and grandchildren while avoiding the upkeep and maintenance they would have to handle in their own single-family home.

In fact, when I think of my own parents' retirement, this is the exact situation I'd like to see our family in. That said, this type of arrangement isn't for everyone, and those who live outside Virginia may find it more complicated than they would like. However, if things go well here, maybe we could see legislation similar to Bill 531 roll out in other places, especially in areas where multi-generational living is making a comeback.

What is Outlander: Blood of My Blood about?

A prequel to Outlander, Outlander: Blood of My Blood follows the story of Jamie Fraser’s (Sam Heughan) parents Brian Fraser (Roy) and Ellen Mackenzie (Harriet Slater) as well as Claire Beauchamp's (Caitríona Balfe) parents, Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine) and Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield).

When did Outlander: Blood of My Blood premiere?

Season 1 of Outlander: Blood of My Blood premiered on STARZ on Aug. 8, 2025.

When was Outlander: Blood of My Blood renewed for Season 2?

Outlander: Blood of My Blood was renewed for a second season in June 2025, before the first season premiered. Production for Season 2 began that same month.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood castJamie Roy

Roy stars as Brian Fraser in the prequel series.

While speaking exclusively to Parade with his costars ahead of the series premiere, Roy got candid about the intense training the cast went through to prepare for their roles.

“We all met for boot camp before we started where we learned how to do all things Outlander. So ride horses, speak in a Scottish accent,” the Scotland native joked. “I think when you're doing all these things together — which can be, you know, pretty tough and hard going and long days — it's really conducive to bonding and getting close. So that definitely, definitely helped, didn’t it?”

Harriet Slater

Slater portrays Ellen Mackenzie, the mother of Outlander character Jamie Fraser.

The Scottish-born actress opened up about getting into character and filming on location while chatting exclusively with Parade in August 2025.

“The costumes are incredible, and they are heavy. They're made of wool, a lot of them,” Slater explained at the time. “And there's layers and layers, which is great [because you’re] just, like, freezing a lot of the time. And you need the layers. But they're heavy, especially when it rains, and they just get damp and even heavier. But they really help you get into character. The corset, especially, makes you sit and stand and move in a completely different way, which is really helpful.”

Jeremy Irvine

Irvine, who stars as Henry Beauchamp, got candid about the hilarious way the men of the show got into their kilts during an exclusive interview with Parade.

“You have to be swaddled in them by the costume team, because that means every morning you have to open your door to your trailer just wearing your boxer shorts,” Irvine said. “Lie down on the floor like a baby while someone else sort of wraps you up.”

Hermione Corfield

Corfield, who plays Julia Moriston, opened up about the onscreen chemistry between the cast during Parade’s exclusive interview.

“We've known each other for 10 years before this job, which was so nice, actually,” she said. “So we’re quite lucky because we had a bit of a head start [with] getting into building that chemistry.”

When does Season 2 of Outlander: Blood of My Blood come out?
