‘The Way Home’ Final Season Will 'Go Out With a Bang,' Stars Tease Major Answers (Exclusive)

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 8:00am

Looking back on The Way Home,Evan Williams and Sadie Laflamme-Snow promise that Season 4 delivers the long-awaited payoff, what they referred to as “the icing on the cake” of a richly layered journey.

As the Hallmark series heads into its final season, Williams, who plays Kat’s childhood friend and romantic interest Elliot Augustine, and Laflamme-Snow, who plays Kat’s teenage daughter, Alice Landry, tease what’s ahead in the 10 episodes, which premiere on Sunday, April 19.

“The relationships have deepened, the learning is more impactful, and the stakes are higher than they’ve ever been,” said Williams, who exclusively told Parade.  “We hope people hang on for the ride, because we’ve really put everything into this season, and this complex and juicy journey will go out with a bang.”

For Laflamme-Snow, the passionate fan response to the time-travel themed show helped shape the final chapter. “We give that care that right back in the way that every detail in this season is thought through and highly intentional,” she said.

That includes meaningful looks to the previous seasons. “There are so many nods to earlier moments,” she explained. “Things audiences may have thought were accidental weren’t. We’re really honoring what makes this show special and taking it to the next level.”

Despite the looming goodbye, neither actor feels like they’re in farewell mode; both expect to stay close after the show ends. Still, filming brought emotional moments, especially early on.

The premiere episode of Season 4 centers on Alice’s graduation from Port Haven High School, a milestone that hit close to home.

“The first episode was almost harder for me than the later ones,” Laflamme-Snow said. “There’s so much about moving on and stepping into the future. Those scenes felt incredibly emotional -- and I think they will surprise viewers.”

For Williams, whose past credits include Versailles and Baxter, Season 4 offered a chance to go deeper than ever with Elliot.

“With this kind of work, you have to keep digging,” he said. “Once you excavate one layer, the only place left to go is deeper. That collaboration with the writers and cast really braids everything together.”

He admits Elliot’s journey surprised him. “I never expected he’d end up where he is after four seasons,” Williams said. “But there’s an opportunity to be generous—with both your pain and your dreams.”

That emotional depth, he believes, is key to the show’s wide appeal. “The writers are incredibly empathetic and interested in universal truths,” he said. “And with time travel, nothing is accidental -- everything matters.”

Fans can also expect long-awaited answers. “This season is dense,” Williams added. “Burning questions will be resolved. It’ll feel like opening a gift we’ve spent years wrapping.”

As for time travel itself, Laflamme-Snow is content staying in the present, especially if it means keeping modern comforts like daily showers. Williams, on the other hand, would gladly take the plunge—literally.

“I’d go back to see my father or grandfather as young men,” he said. “That’s part of the show’s magic, the wish fulfillment of connecting with loved ones before we knew them.”

When it comes to where the story ends, both actors have high hopes for their characters.

Laflamme-Snow sees Alice finding independence without losing her roots. “She’s driven by healing her family and getting answers,” she said. “Her happy ending is being able to spread her wings, maybe leave Port Haven, but still stay connected, and yes, with a little romance. It is Hallmark, after all.”

Williams, who shares a close off-screen friendship with Chyler Leigh (Kat Landry), is firmly in Team Kat and Elliot—though with an important caveat.

“Elliot has loved Kat from the start,” he said. “But I’d want their future to be based on something new—not just old patterns.”

He noted that Elliot’s difficult upbringing led him to see the Landry’s as a surrogate family, while Kat often leaned on him as a fallback. “What I’d hope for them is real partnership,” Williams said. “I want them to have parity, and a chance to discover who they are, both separately and together.”

The Way Home Season 4 premieres on Hallmark on Sunday, April 19, at 9/8c.

‘Happy Days’ Star Explains Why He’s Still Working 50 Years After No. 1 Hit Show

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 7:56am

In 1976, Happy Days was the number one hit show on television. Starring Ron Howard, Henry Winkler, Anson Williams, Don Most, Tom Bosley, Marion Ross, and more, the series attracted more than 50 million viewers per week at the height of its popularity in the mid-1970s.

At the center of the hoopla was Winkler, whose Fonzie character appeared on posters, t-shirts, lunchboxes,  and even as an action figure.

Fifty years after his Happy Days fame, Winkler is still working—and hasn’t even thought about retirement at all.

"It never occurred to me [to retire] because I am so happy in my house with [my wife] Stacey and our children and our grandchildren, and I am so happy when I am working," Winkler, 80, told People magazine in an April 2026 interview. "When I'm doing what I dreamed of doing, and I still get to do it. I still get to be at the table. That is an amazement to me. I am not kidding. I don't take it for granted. I go, 'Oh my God, this is just wonderful.'”

Winkler is grateful for his long career

Following his success on Happy Days, Winkler was typecast for a bit. In an interview with AARP, he shared, “I never resented the Fonz. He put a roof over my head. But after Happy Days, I struggled with being locked out of opportunity. …I knew it was necessary to figure out something else because I was completely stymied. I couldn’t just sit there. I had a family, and I am a doer.”

He ultimately started his own production company and wrote children’s books. The acting roles eventually came too. Winkler made a notorious return to television with roles on Arrested Development, Royal Pains, Parks and Recreation, and Barry, the latter of which earned him his very first Primetime Emmy Award for acting. Winkler is currently the host of Hazardous History on the History Channel.

In a recent interview with USA Today, Winkler revealed he is still living out his childhood dream. "I was 8 years old, lying in my bed in Manhattan, dreaming about being an actor, not even sure why,” he shared. “I'm sitting here with you. I am 80. I'm still at the table. And I'm telling you, I define gratitude."

Last December, Winkler appeared on the IMO With Michelle Obama & Craig Robinson podcast and explained that he thinks retirement is “deadly.”

“People keep asking me, Am I gonna retire? Or ‘Have you retired?’ And I think that is like the furthest thing from my imagination,” the Happy Days legend said at the time. “I will retire when I am not able to do, again, more. You know, I just, I think that it is deadly.”

1991 Timeless Ballad From a Bestselling Album Became a No. 1 Hit

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 7:47am

“When a Man Loves a Woman,” a well-known song written by Calvin Lewis and Andrew Wright, was originally recorded by Percy Sledge in 1966. Although it reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Cash Box Top 100, this was not the most popular version of the song that has ever been released. There have been many covers over the years by top artists. John Wesley Ryles recorded a version of the song in 1976 and Bette Midler recorded another in 1980.

However, arguably the most popular cover was recorded in 1991 by Michael Bolton. It reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. It helped Time, Love & Tenderness become the bestselling album of his career, selling more than 16 million copies.

This album contained several more hits from Bolton, including “Love Is a Wonderful Thing,” which reached No. 4 on the charts. It also contained “Time, Love and Tenderness,” which reached No. 7, and "Missing You Now," which reached No. 12.

Although this album was considered a massive commercial success, it didn’t receive the most favorable reviews from critics. Many outlets, like The Rolling Stone Album Guide and Entertainment Weekly, criticized his vocals. Dave Marsh wrote, “Bolton's singing amounts to gimmicks—quick falsetto shrieks, occasional gruff huffs—that replicate soul mannerisms without a hint of that music's power for re-creating human feeling.”

However, many fans still love the album to this day. Beneath a video capturing a performance of Bolton singing “When a Man Loves a Woman,” one person said, “Michael Bolton is a literal angel on earth. The way his voice can command an entire room to listen and take in how beautiful his voice is. With every note he breathes effortless perfection with such powerful and passionate delivery.”

Another said, “My wife and I saw him in concert and it was by far the best sounding concert I ever heard. I'm a hard rocker myself but was so surprised at how clean the sound was. Just awesome.”

Michigan, West Virginia, Florida, and Texas Have the Best Cities To Retire In— And None of Them Are the Typical Go-To Spots

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 7:32am

Almost every "best of" list about retirement destinations for seniors looking to relocate has the same old places. And while there's a reason that spots like Orlando, Florida always end up near the top of those collections, there are a lot of other places out there worth exploring.

A new list from U.S. World News and Reports seems to take aim at some of those less popular destinations, offering new city suggestions in those states where retirees flock. And while some of these spots may ring a bell, I'm willing to bet that there will be at least one or two that you're unfamiliar with.

🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

West Virginia

Weirton, West Virginia, is near the top of the U.S. World News and Reports list of best places to retire (only beaten out by Midland, Michigan). With a population of just 18,315, it will be a lot easier to meet other seniors once you move here. Plus, the median home value here is just $124,746, so retirees with plenty of equity in their current home could end up living mortgage-free when they move here and buy a new home.

And the benefits don't end there, either. According to Senior Site, the Mountain State offers a low cost of living and plenty of tax perks, including those for people looking to move somewhere with low taxes on retirement income. That's because the state began phasing out its taxes on Social Security benefits in 2024, which means that this income will be tax-free by 2026.

Florida

Like I said, just about every retirement list includes Orlando towards the top. But what if I told you that U.S. World News and Reports named several other Florida cities among the best of the best, including Homosassa Springs, which ranked in third place on a list of 250 spots.

The town has a lot going for it, especially if you're a nature lover—I personally used to visit this town as a kid, and we would always go out on the water in the hopes of spotting manatees and alligators—and it comes along with the low income tax burden that many retirees flock to the state for. In addition, you can find really affordable housing here, and the median home value is just $219,581.

Not falling in love with Homosassa Springs? Several other Florida towns made the list, including but not limited to Spring Hill (7th out of 250), Palm Harbor (13th out of 250), Naples (18th out of 250), Pensacola (19th out of 250), and Cape Coral (21st out of 250).

Related: These Are the 3 Worst Southern Cities for Retirement

Texas

Everything is bigger in Texas, including the perks for retirees who want to move somewhere like The Woodlands. This community is a big one, which may be why it earned fourth place on the list. And while it may be popular, there's probably a good reason why so many people flock here.

And while you'll pay a little more than the national average to live here—median home values hover right around $474,279, according to the report—Edelman Financial Engines says that the following things will keep you happy in your golden years:

  • Low cost of living
  • No state income tax
  • No taxes on retirement benefits
  • Warmer weather
  • Mild winters
  • Community values

Not feeling The Woodlands? There are several other Texas cities on the list, including Spring (5th out of 250), Victoria (12th out of 250), Pearland (17th out of 250), Conroe (20th out of 250), and League City (25th out of 250).

Michigan

As I said, Orlando, Florida, is often everyone's go-to for the best places to retire. But the U.S. World News and Report actually listed Midland, Michigan, as the winner. Here, homes have a median value of around $206,142. Just like in Florida, there's no tax on Social Security income. However, unlike Florida, Michigan has mild summers, a huge draw for anyone who wants to avoid the heat and humidity in retirement.

Additionally, the state experiences all four seasons (heavy on the winter, naturally), so you won't have to sacrifice diversity when you move here. Believe it or not, Midland wasn't the only Michigan hot spot on the list, and a few other cities also ranked high, including Rochester Hills (14th out of 250), Troy (15th out of 250), and Farmington Hills (31st out of 250).

Of course, where you decide to move in retirement is a deeply personal decision and one that should be made using a variety of criteria, not just where a city lands on a list. That said, there's obviously something drawing folks to these top locations, especially if they are enticing enough to beat out some of the old standbys we're so used to seeing in these roundups.

1979 Country Rock No. 1 Smash Inspired by World's Worst Pickup Line

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 7:29am

A 1979 country rock chart-topper may sound like it was born in the heart of Nashville, but its origins trace back to an unlikely source: the world's worst pickup line.

What started as a simple one-liner ended up sparking the idea behind a No. 1 smash. It was the Bellamy Brothers who took that unexpected spark and turned it into an unforgettable country rock hit, transforming a sentence from a vintage TV game show into a chart-topping anthem.

The Bellamy Brothers were inspired by comedy legend Groucho Marx and the television series You Bet Your Life, reported Songfacts. The line that inspired the now-iconic song title was "If I said you had a beautiful body would you hold it against me?"

Howard Bellamy said, "I have to give credit for that line to Groucho Marx. Of course you've heard of the Marx Brothers. Groucho used to have a show on TV when we were growing up, which I hate to even admit how long ago that was. But he had a show called You Bet Your Life."

Howard continued, "He'd have guests on, and different quiz questions. And Groucho smoked a cigar – that tells you how long ago it was, he smoked cigars on a TV show. He'd use that line occasionally, he'd say, 'If I said you had a beautiful body would you hold it against me?' and shake his cigar, and kind of raise his eyebrows."

The songwriter concluded, "Our family always had a weird southern sense of humor and they'd use that line around a lot. So it just came one day that it'd be a great song title."

In a story published by the website Alabama Live, Howard added that the song's popularity came with some unexpected, but welcome, perks. "I can remember it was first a hit on radio and as we were on tour it was a great time in life. We had to judge all these beautiful body contests that particular year. It's a very fond memory."

Mediterranean-Inspired Style Without the Plane Ticket View this post on Instagram

User @costconewdeals shared a video of the new seven-piece melamine lazy Susan set that channels classic Mediterranean design, borrowing visual cues from traditional ceramics found in places like the Amalfi Coast and the Iberian Peninsula.

The bright blues and sunny yellows echo the tones often seen in Italian Deruta pottery, Spanish Talavera ceramics and Portuguese azulejo tiles. The other colorway, a more neutral design, features gray designs with a similar Mediterranean aesthetic.

Swirling floral motifs and vine-like patterns give the set a hand-painted look, while the decorative borders and symmetrical detailing add to its old-world charm. While it isn't produced in the Mediterranean region, the design elements clearly nod to that iconic style.

Because the set is made of melamine, it's lightweight and durable enough for patio tables, poolside snacks or picnics at the park. Unlike delicate ceramic pieces, this version is designed to handle everyday use without stress.

A Snack Station That Spins

Beyond its good looks, the rotating tray is built for practicality. A lazy Susan makes it easy to create a shareable spread where everyone can grab what they want with a simple spin.

It also works beautifully as a kids' snack station filled with granola bars, dried fruit and grab-and-go treats. Place it in a pantry corner to maximize space or set it on the counter to corral oils, vinegars, salt and sauces. Coffee lovers could even use it to organize sugar jars, pods and tea bags for a tidy drink station.

For parties, the possibilities multiply. Arrange fruit, chocolate, marshmallows, and Rice Krispies treats for an easy dessert display. Load it with cookies and pastries for brunch. Use it as a game-night centerpiece, stocked with snacks that rotate among players.

Functional and decorative, this Costco find proves that even the most practical kitchen tools can double as statement pieces.

The Common Mistake That Increases Your Risk of Catching COVID Twice This Season

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 7:25am

Back in the spring of 2020, we dreamt of a day when COVID would be gone. The reality is that isn't how the virus played out, and we now live with it. Life has long returned to normal since those dark days six years ago, but that doesn't mean doctors want people to wave off the virus.

"While it is not as deadly as it was early in the pandemic, COVID-19 can still result in hospitalizations and even death among older individuals and those with significant comorbidities, such as those with advanced lung, heart, liver or kidney disease and those who are immunocompromised," explains Dr. Jimmy Johannes, MD, a pulmonologist and critical care medicine specialist at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center.

COVID-19 also doesn't go away once winter ends, though that is typically when hospitalizations and infections peak.

"We tend to talk more about COVID during flu season because respiratory viruses spread more easily in the colder months," says Dr. Mike Richardson, MD, a family physician. "We continue to see cases and even outbreaks in the spring and summer. It can circulate year-round, but we typically see higher peaks in the fall and winter."

Dr. Richardson says that one of the biggest mistakes he sees people make is understimating COVID.

"I often see COVID trigger prolonged breathing issues in people who had asthma earlier in life. This is not just a week or two of symptoms," Dr. Richardson explains. "Recovery can take months. The challenge is that it is hard to predict who will be affected this way. Because of that uncertainty, the best strategy is still to avoid getting infected in the first place."

Doctors say that there's another common mistake that increases your risk of getting COVID twice this season. Here's what it is and the simple way to avoid it.

This Common Mistake Increases Your Risk of Catching COVID Twice This Season, Doctors Warn

Luis Alvarez/Getty Images

Not getting vaccinated can raise your risk of getting COVID-19 twice in a season.

"Because COVID mutates around our immune response to prior exposure, it is very important to get the best, most up-to-date vaccine for the best protection against infection," explains Dr. Linda Yancey, MD, an infectious disease specialist at the Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston.

Another physician agrees. "Skipping vaccination leaves your immune system less prepared to recognize and fight the virus," explains Dr. Raj Dasgupta, MD, the chief medical advisor for Sleepopolis. "Vaccines strengthen the body’s immune memory, so unvaccinated individuals have a higher risk of reinfection, especially with evolving variants that partially escape immunity from past infections."

Indeed, a not-new but previously dormant variant, Cicada, is currently under surveillance by the CDC and other major health organizations. The new variant matters, whether you've gotten COVID this season or not.

"COVID-19 reinfections can happen," Dr. Johannes notes. "While an infection can protect against another infection, waning immunity over weeks to months and the possibility of changing variants can lead to reinfection, especially for those with a weakened immune system. The COVID-19 vaccine can reduce the risk of getting COVID-19 infection and reinfection."

In fact, JAMA Network Openresearch suggests that reinfection risk is higher among people who remained unvaccinated than in those individuals who rolled up their sleeves.

Now, doctors agree that the COVID-19 vaccine doesn't prevent reinfection or infection (though it can). "In the best-case scenario, vaccination helps prevent infection altogether," Dr. Richardson explains. "If you do get infected, it can reduce the severity of symptoms and lower the risk of spreading it to others. It is not perfect protection, but it is a strong and effective layer of defense."

Your primary care doctor can advise you on the best frequency for COVID-19 boosters based on your health and risk factors.

Where To Find Accurate COVID-19 Vaccine Information

There's a lot of information about the COVID-19 vaccine, but not all of it is science-based. "Avoid falling for social media rumors or trusting websites that do not have reliable scientific backing, as they might provide false information," Dr. Dasgupta says.

He says that some trusted sources are:

  • The CDC
  • World Health Organization (WHO)
  • Your local health department

"Primary care doctors and pharmacists can also help provide more personalized, evidence-based guidance," Dr. Dasgupta adds.

Other Ways To Protect Yourself and Others From COVID (Re)Infections

Doctors say a multi-layered approach is still best for avoiding COVID-19 infections and reinfections (and protecting your community). Besides staying up to date on vaccinations, doctors advise people to:

  • Wash your hands. Dr. Johannes calls good hand hygiene "probably the most practical and reliable way to reduce the risk of getting COVID-19 infection."
  • Get tested. Dr. Johannes suggests getting tested if you suspect you have COVID-19, especially if you're at a higher risk for severe illness, such as because of your age or underlying conditions. "Testing for COVID-19 early and seeking treatment with an antiviral treatment, such as Paxlovid, can reduce the severity of illness and reduce the risk of complications or hospitalization," Dr. Johannes says.
  • Stay home if you're sick. Remember, we're all on the same team. Sometimes, you need to return to a life that isn't normal to protect others. "Don’t ignore early symptoms and continue normal activities, spend extended time in enclosed spaces when transmission risk is high or return to work or social settings too soon when you are still symptomatic and have a fever," Dr. Richardson says.

In short, get vaccinated. And if you feel sick? Stay home and rest up. If you are sick and coughing or sneezing, wearing a mask can also help reduce transmission until you are no longer contagious.

1986 Classic Song Hit No. 1 On This Day 40 Years Ago

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 7:10am

On April 19, 1986, 40 years ago, English singer-songwriter George Michael made history as a solo singer when his song "A Different Corner" topped the U.K. Official Singles Chart. With this achievement, the song became the first No. 1 hit in the U.K. for which the same person sang, played the instruments, arranged, wrote, and produced the track.

Four decades after Michael's impressive milestone, his hit song is still remembered as a true classic and one of the late singer's best creations.

When the song dominated the charts in 1986, Michael was already one of the most recognizable voices in pop music as half of Wham!, the duo behind global hits like “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go.”

He had also begun stepping into solo success with songs like "Careless Whisper," which topped charts worldwide. "A Different Corner" was Michael's second solo single, and it was definitely a more personal track for him.

In a 1987 interview with Smash Hits magazine, via GM Forever, Michael shared some insight into the song, saying, "That was about a very quick relationship, a here today gone tomorrow one. It’s amazing how emotional you can get in a short period of time and how long it can last."

"Someone can really shake you up and it takes you a long time to get yourself back on your feet; that was what that was about," he went on.

Before "A Different Corner," Michael's first solo single, "Careless Whisper," also topped the U.K. Official Singles Chart, solidifying his impressive debut as a soloist after already making his mark as part of Wham!

"A Different Corner" and its similar success was a great sign for Michael's future, especially considering only a few months later, Wham! played their last concert together and officially disbanded.

In the years following, Michael would go on to have many more No. 1 songs, both in the U.K. and around the world, including on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.

I've Been on 50 Cruises—Here's Why I Actually Book The 'Most Crowded' Week of the Year

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 7:10am

While the allure of a quiet, low-cost shoulder-season cruise is tempting, there's a reason those "peak" weeks on the calendar command a premium. I used to be a staunch advocate for the off-season hustle, but after years of comparing the two, I’ve realized that paying a bit more can actually net you significantly more value. If you’re looking for the definitive version of a destination—not just the discounted one—peak season is often the smarter investment.

The most obvious perk is the weather, which dictates exactly how much of a region you can actually experience. Take Alaska, for example: during the high summer window, the temperate climate doesn't just make for better photos; it ensures that every immersive shore excursion and educational program is fully operational. On a recent sailing with Crystal Cruises, the peak-season timing meant we had a dedicated naturalist on board for whale-watching lectures—a specialized touch that often disappears once the crowds thin out.

"All points of interest and activities are open during high season," explains Sue Martinez, a senior travel advisor at AAA Club Alliance. "Often, many are closed or simply not offered during off-peak travel." Beyond the logistics, peak season is the natural choice for multi-generational families looking to sync busy schedules. By booking early and partnering with a travel advisor, you can navigate the higher price tags to find a sailing that balances your budget with the full-throttle experience only the high season can provide.

Here are more big reasons to consider peak-season next time you sail:

The "Safe Bet" for Smooth Sailing

While I’ve spent plenty of time on lines like Norwegian, Virgin Voyages and Celebrity, I’ve learned that the secret to a stress-free trip isn't just the ship—it’s the timing. Peak season is essentially the "predictability" window. When you sail the Caribbean between December and April, you aren't just paying for the sun; you’re paying to avoid the unpredictability of hurricane season. That stability translates to calmer seas and, more importantly, a schedule that actually stays on track. When the weather is reliable, those high-demand excursions that often get cancelled in the off-season stay on the books, letting you actually experience the "must-dos" rather than just looking at them from a distance.

The Case for the High-Season Splurge A cabanna at Perfect Day at Coco Cay

Erica Lamberg

If you're already investing in a peak-season ticket, this is the time to lean into the "extras" that turn a good trip into a legendary one. For my birthday week last year on Celebrity Beyond, I opted to rent a cabana at Perfect Day at CocoCay for about $500. Having a private attendant and a dedicated home base for the entire day turned a busy private island into a true retreat—it’s that kind of targeted splurge that makes a crowded high-season ship feel like your own private yacht.

From Mediterranean Sun to Festive Markets

The same logic applies across the Atlantic. From May to September, the Mediterranean is at its most vibrant, and having taken over eight ocean and river sailings—including with Viking and AmaWaterways—I can tell you that the "energy" of a port in full bloom is incomparable. If you prefer the cold, skip the rainy shoulder months and head straight for the peak of the Christmas Market season. Whether it’s a December sailing on Uniworld or Virgin’sScarlet Lady in the tropics, the "High Season" is really about ensuring the destination is actually "open" for business, from the festive stalls in Europe to the leaf-peeping excursions in New England and Canada.

The "Full-Throttle" Onboard Experience

There's a common misconception that a "full" ship is a crowded ship, but in the cruise world, a ship at maximum capacity often means a ship with a maximum budget. As Martinez points out, when ships are sailing full, the cruise lines "operate all programs" at their highest expression. This means more staff, more specialized performers and—crucially for families—fully operational kids' clubs. During the quieter months, you might find consolidated youth programs or limited entertainment sets, but during peak season, the cruise lines pull out all the stops to keep thousands of people engaged simultaneously.

Unlocking "Bucket List" Education

Peak season also brings the "A-Team" when it comes to on-board enrichment. Whether it’s holiday-themed performers or specialized family comedians, the entertainment roster expands to meet the demand. For me, the real value shows up in the workshops and lectures. On an August sailing to Iceland with Viking Ocean, having a naturalist lecturer on board changed the entire context of the trip. Because we were in the heart of the summer window, we didn't just hear about the environment—we experienced it. We were able to walk the famous black-sand beaches, an excursion that is often restricted or far less accessible during the volatile weather of the off-season.

The "Foodie" High Season Advantage

If you are a cruise loyalist, you already know that the dining room is the heart of the ship, but peak season is when the menu really matures. During these prime windows, cruise lines often debut elevated, themed menus and specialty holiday feasts that simply aren't on the rotation during the "budget" months. Whether it’s an elaborate gala dinner or a festive, multi-course brunch, the kitchen is operating at its highest level of creativity. Plus, because the ship is at maximum capacity, those complimentary specialty dining rotations are often more robust, ensuring that the "all-inclusive" part of your fare feels truly gourmet rather than just convenient.

The Real Math Behind the "Sticker Shock"

While those July and December price tags can cause immediate heart palpitations, it helps to look at exactly what that extra cash is buying. According to NerdWallet, peak-season prices hit their stride in July—with inside rooms averaging $1,162 and balconies around $1,630—while September is statistically the cheapest month to sail. However, for anyone traveling with students or young kids, September isn't just a "cheaper month"—it’s an impossible one.

The price hike isn't just arbitrary; it’s a direct result of a "full-throttle" operation. During peak windows, cruise lines ramp up their staffing, expand their entertainment rosters and host the kind of festive, high-energy events that simply don't exist during the quieter months. When you factor in that NerdWallet found peak-week airfare can jump 57% higher than shoulder season, the total investment is higher, but so is the "return on vacation" in terms of weather and open attractions.

How to Hack the High Season

If you’re committed to a peak-season sailing, your strategy has to be "research early, book earlier." Martinez notes that demand is a double-edged sword: while airline seats are more expensive during the holidays, airlines also offer significantly more flight options to popular cruise hubs, giving you more flexibility in your routing.

To get the most out of your high-season budget, follow these three "Pro" rules:

  • The "First Pick" Advantage: Booking early doesn't just lower the price; it ensures you get the cabin mid-ship or the specific flight time that avoids a 4:00 AM wake-up call.
  • Leverage the "Lever": Look for alternative departure ports nearby. If the prices out of Miami are astronomical, check Fort Lauderdale or Port Canaveral.
  • Focus on the "All-In" Value: Remind yourself that a higher fare often includes the specialized naturalists, Broadway-caliber casts, and seasonal dining that are the first things cut when a ship sails half-empty in the off-season.

For anyone trying to make better use of the space they already have, its taller profile is a definite win.

Shoppers have described it as “sturdy” and “well designed.” One reviewer called it the “perfect size,” adding that the “drawers are well-made” and they’re “expecting it to last a long time.” Another said it’s “great for small spaces,” while someone else wrote that it’s “easy to assemble and super cute.”

1980 New Wave Rock Anthem Became a No. 1 Hit 46 Years Ago Today

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 6:53am

Blondie is marking 46 years since they earned their second No. 1 hit.

On April 19, 1980, Blondie's hit song "Call Me" soared to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, earning the band the second of their four career hit singles.

It stayed at No. 1 for six consecutive weeks, becoming their longest-running chart-topper and solidifying itself as one of the band's biggest hits. The new wave rock track was even named the best-selling single of the year, ranking at No. 1 on Billboard's Year-End Hot Singles of 1980.

"Call Me" was later featured on Billboard's Top 500 Songs of the '80s, ranked as the No. 9 song of the decade.

"Call Me" was first released on the American Gigolo original soundtrack in 1980, serving as the main theme for the blockbuster crime thriller with Richard Gere. It was composed by Italian producer Giorgio Moroder, with lyrics by Blondie's lead singer, Debbie Harry.

"Call Me" wasn't featured on any of Blondie's studio albums at the time, but it was later included on the band's 2001 remastered version of their Autoamerican album.

It was the second Blondie single to hit No. 1, after 1979's "Heart of Glass." In January 1981, the band earned their third No. 1 hit with "The Tide Is High," following their genre-bending track "Rapture," which spent two weeks at the summit of the Hot 100, becoming the first U.S. hit single to feature rap vocals.

‘50s Sitcom Star, Known for Beloved Classic TV Comedy Series, Turns 89

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 6:48am

Elinor Donahue, the beloved actress who played Betty Anderson on Father Knows Best, is celebrating a big birthday. The classic TV star marked her 89th birthday on April 19, 2026.

Donahue was born in Tacoma, Washington, on April 19, 1937, and began working as a dancer at a young age. She landed a lead role on Father Knows Best just before her 18th birthday more than 70 years ago.

In an interview with the Television Academy Foundation, Donahue recalled celebrating her 18th birthday on the set of the classic TV sitcom, which also starred Robert Young and Jane Wyatt.

“Shortly after we started filming Father Knows Best, the day of my 18th birthday, they brought in a cake at 5 o'clock, sang 'Happy Birthday,' and said, 'Ha-ha, now you don't get to go home. Now you'll work late like the rest of us,'" she shared.

Donahue played all-American teen Betty “Princess" Anderson for six seasons, from 1954 to 1960. She once revealed her character was nothing like her real life.

“Betty was quite different from me,” Donahue told the New York Timesin 1977. “I was shy, withdrawn, and Betty was always the captain of the cheerleading team, and she seemed able to charge forward where Elinor used to hang back.”

“I never had a true childhood,” she added. “So when I became Betty, I became younger. I recaptured my youth. I lived the kind of life I thought you're supposed to live.”

A long career

After Father Knows Best ended, Donahue joined the cast of The Andy Griffith Show in 1960, playing Andy’s girlfriend Ellie Walker. Donahue felt she didn’t fit in on the show and asked to be released from her three-year contract after one season.

Speaking with Woman’s World in 2025, Donahue recalled, “I felt like a bird out of a nest. …I didn’t feel capable. It was the strangest feeling. I had a three-year contract for that show, but at the end of the first year, I asked to be let out of my contract, because I didn’t feel that I was playing the role properly. I just didn’t feel right about it. …I was just not a happy camper, and there was no point in my trying to continue with it.”

Donahue, who married TV producer Harry Ackerman (Bewitched) in 1962, continued to book guest spots on shows such as The Flying Nun, Police Story, and Star Trekbefore scoring a recurring role as Miriam Welby on The Odd Couple in 1972, per her IMDb page.

She also appeared in two Father Knows Best reunion movies in 1977. In the 1980s, she was a regular on Days of Our Lives. Donahue’s final acting credit before her retirement came in 2011, with a four-episode stint as a judge on The Young and the Restless.

Looking back on her long career, Donahue told Woman’s World, “It was all just so magical. Honestly, I’ve had a lot of fun.”

5 States That Are the Most Dangerous for Retired Drivers

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 6:46am

Retirees may be more at risk of getting into a car accident in certain states, according to a new study.

Davidoff Law Personal Injury Lawyers has released a study examining the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's crash data over a seven-year period. They then looked at the number of accidents involving people aged 65 and up in each state, calculating crash rates using a fixed denominator of 100,000 to account for population differences. In the end, they found that some states were worse for retired drivers than others. Here's what they learned.

🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

Wyoming

The state of Wyoming came in fifth on the list, thanks to a crash rate of 35 per 100,000. During the time frame when the data were collected, 154 car crashes involved drivers aged 65 or older.

That figure accounts for almost 20 percent of the state's total car accidents, highlighting how many vehicular mishaps involve retirees. But it doesn't sound like the drivers are 100 percent to blame, according to the report, which notes that Wyoming's roads rank 27th in quality in the U.S., meaning they are worse than more than half of the country's roads.

Related: This State Was Just Named the Worst Place To Retire in the U.S.

Oklahoma

There have been almost 1,000 accidents involving seniors on Oklahoma roads, according to the report, making it the fourth-most dangerous state for retired drivers. And those accidents account for 22.5 percent of all crashes. With 2.6 million licensed drivers on the state's roads, that's a lot of potential for disaster.

However, this is another state with less-than-great road quality, which means seniors are likely dealing with declining eyesight and many potholes and poorly marked roadways when they're traveling.

Kentucky

Coming in at third, Kentucky has had 1,158 car crashes involving retired drivers during the timeframe the data was collected. That age group makes up 16 percent of the state's population, the report notes that 23 percent of all accidents had one thing in common: A senior behind the wheel.

Unfortunately, bad roads don't play as big a role in this breakdown, since the state is ranked 20th when it comes to road quality.

Mississippi

The Magnolia State has come in third on the list, with 850 accidents over the seven years the data was reviewed. The number accounted for 19 percent of all accidents in the state. Once again, it looks like infrastructure could be to blame, since the state ranks 45th in quality, putting it near the top of the worst-of-the-worst list.

Related: These Are the 3 Worst-Ranked Florida Cities to Retire In

West Virginia

Nabbing the top spot is West Virginia. There are around 42 accidents per 100,000 drivers, a figure the study notes is nearly double the national average.

Seniors were involved in more than 26 percent of all car accidents in the state, where 19.4 percent of the state's population is over the age of 65. As for the reason for all those crashes? Well, it looks like the road could be to blame once again.

"Insurance companies often use age against senior drivers in crash cases, trying to blame them automatically even when the other driver or bad road conditions caused the accident," Ruben Davidoff, Managing Partner at Davidoff Law Personal Injury Lawyers, said about the study. "That's why documentation is so important. If you're an older driver involved in a crash, never admit fault at the scene and don't give recorded statements to insurance companies without talking to a lawyer first. Your age shouldn't be used against you, but it will be unless you protect yourself legally from the start."

'80s Vocal Powerhouse 'Sounds Amazing As Always' Singing Tammy Wynette: 'She Has The Pipes'

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 6:45am

When Ann Wilson took the stage at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, the audience met the Heart front woman’s entrance with curiosity. An ’80s rock icon known for her powerhouse voice closing out a night dedicated to country legend Tammy Wynette seemed an unexpected pairing. Yet within moments of launching into "Stand by Your Man," Wilson transformed curiosity into awe. What initially felt like an unlikely combination quickly made sense as she delivered her version of Wynette’s most famous song with vocal force and power. Wilson’s performance wasn’t just a cover or a tribute; it revealed something new about Wynette’s lasting impact and legacy far beyond the world of country music.

A Night of Stars at the Ryman

Wilson is known for turning a concert into something closer to a spiritual experience, and her Ryman performance was nothing short of a revelation. Country star Wynonna Judd opened the evening, bringing her gritty, soulful voice and undeniable presence. Debby Boone added emotional depth, while the lineup also featured artists like Lucinda Williams and Patty Griffin.

A Classic Reimagined @rjlopez2026

Ann Wilson of HEART - Last night at the Ryman Auditorium was more than just a concert—it was a heartfelt celebration of one of country music’s most iconic voices, Tammy Wynette. The historic venue felt almost sacred, as if the walls themselves were honoring the legacy of the “First Lady of Country Music.” From the moment Wynonna Judd stepped on stage, the tone was set with powerful, soul-stirring vocals that paid deep respect to Wynette’s emotional storytelling. Wynonna didn’t just sing the songs—she lived them, delivering each lyric with grit, grace, and undeniable star power. Ann Wilson brought a completely different but equally captivating energy. Known for her rock roots with Heart, she infused Wynette’s classics with a bold, bluesy depth that gave the music a fresh, unexpected edge while still honoring its country soul. Debby Boone delivered a beautifully pure and emotional performance, while The War and Treaty brought the house down with a soul-stirring, gospel-infused energy that felt both spiritual and electrifying. The night featured an extraordinary lineup of artists who each paid tribute in their own unique way, including Randy Houser, Gretchen Wilson, Brittney Spencer, Lucinda Williams, Lorrie Morgan, Valerie June, Mandy Barnett, Patty Griffin, Tami Neilson, Jaci Velasquez, Katie Pruitt, The Isaacs, Jamie O’Neal, Kaitlin Butts, Carlene Carter, and Georgette Jones—each bringing their own voice, style, and heartfelt connection to Tammy’s timeless catalog. What made the night truly special was the sense of unity among the performers. It wasn’t about outshining one another—it was about collectively lifting up Tammy’s legacy. Each artist brought their own style, yet every performance tied back to the emotional honesty and storytelling that defined Wynette’s career. Roger and I—now known as Nashville Captain Sparkles—were lucky enough to experience it from the second row, right by the stage. Being that close made every moment even more powerful—you could feel the emotion in every note, see every expression, and truly connect with the artists in a way that felt intimate and unforgettable. It was also such a joy connecting with so many people in attendance. We had a blast taking photos with numerous fans and fellow music lovers throughout the night. Roger and I truly love spreading love, laughter, and unity wherever we go. There’s something special about bringing a smile to someone’s face and meeting people from all over the world—last night was full of those beautiful, human moments. The crowd at the Ryman Auditorium was fully locked in—singing along, wiping away tears, and giving standing ovations that felt never-ending. There was a shared understanding in the room: this wasn’t just nostalgia, this was history being honored in real time. By the end of the night, one thing was crystal clear—Tammy Wynette’s music is timeless. And in a place as legendary as the Ryman, surrounded by voices that truly respect the craft, her spirit felt alive and well. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A moving, unforgettable tribute that proved great music—and true emotion—never fade. #TammyWynetteTribute #RymanMagic #NashvilleNights #CountryMusicLegends #LiveMusicExperience @rymanauditorium @visitmusiccity @countrymusic @cma @acmawards @grandoleopry @spotify @applemusic @amazonmusic @youtube @tiktok @musiccity @nashvillelife @nashvilletn @broadwaynashville @countryfans @classiccountry @womenincountry @livemusiclover @concertvibes @musiclovers @explorenashville @southernstyle @tennesseelife @nashvilleevents @americanafest @tinpanalley @rollingstone @billboard @people @entertainmenttonight @Annwilsonfanpage @Ann Wilson

Wilson’s closing slot was symbolic—an indicator of the evening’s central theme: Tammy Wynette’s legacy knows no bounds. Her influence spans generations and genres. "Stand by Your Man" is arguably the song most associated with Wynette, yet Wilson’s powerful, rock-driven vocal style brought a fresh interpretation. In her hands, the song shifted from vulnerable to anthemic.

Fans React to the Performance

Fans were quick to share their reactions in the comments of a social media post documenting the event.

“Tammy had such a hard life, it's wonderful to see her celebrated,” one fan wrote. “Anne's warm smokey voice perfectly conveys the pain in this song.”

“She looks and sounds fantastic!!” another added.

“Ann will have one of the best voices ever!” a third commented.

“Love everything she sings!” another fan shared.

Wilson’s performance at the Ryman proves Tammy Wynette’s impact is bigger than her music alone. Her rock interpretation of a Wynette classic blurred the lines between country and rock. Artists like Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood have navigated both genres in their careers, thanks in part to trailblazers like Wynette.

Wilson didn’t just pay homage—she reinterpreted a classic, offering a fresh perspective on what it means to be a country artist today. The boundaries between country music and other popular genres continue to fade, and performances like this show how enduring songs can evolve with each new voice.

Pete Davidson Steps Out With Almost Bare Arms After Tattoo Removal

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 6:30am

For most of his celebrity life, comedian, actor, and writer Pete Davidson has been best known for his very unique and very tattooed look. Well, the new dad (since December) has been making some changes in that regard. He showed off the progress this week at CinemaCon 2026.

Davidson, who at one point had 200 tattoos, is working at getting them removed.

He talked to Variety about his tattoo removal in 2025: "I started during COVID in 2020, and it’s gonna take me another 10 years. My arms are pretty much gone, and my hands and neck are gone. But I still have to do my torso and back," he explained about the removal progress. "I used to be a drug addict and I was a sad person, and I felt ugly and that I needed to be covered up. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with tattoos, but mine, when I look at them, I remember a sad person that was very unsure. So I’m just removing them and starting fresh, because that’s what I think works best for me and for my brain."

The process is painful, he says, and it's not cheap either: "I’ve already spent like $200K and I’m like 30% done."

1977 Hit Became a Disco Anthem That Defined an Era

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 6:15am

When you think of the disco era, the Bee Gees' song "Stayin' Alive" surely comes to mind—complete with its pulsating rhythm, Barry Gibb’s famous falsetto, and those "Ah ah ah" lyrics. To this day, "Stayin' Alive" is considered one of the most iconic and defining disco anthems in music history, despite the fact that the Bee Gees were latecomers to disco music.

Disco music started gaining popularity around 1974, thanks to artists like Donna Summer, The Village People, and Sylvester and hit its mainstream peak between 1977 and 1979. Luckily for the Bee Gees, "Stayin' Alive" was released right in that window on November 15, 1977. However, the larger driving factor behind the song's iconic success was its inclusion in the movie Saturday Night Fever, which is about the New York disco scene and stars a young John Travolta in all his disco dancing glory.

The Saturday Night Fever double album soundtrack, which included the song "Stayin' Alive," was released a few weeks ahead of the film on November 15, 1977. The movie debuted on December 14, 1977, and set course to make its indelible mark in pop-culture history (Travolta's Saturday Night Fever character is the dancing emoji, people!)

Related: John Travolta Directs Lookalike Daughter in New Film—and Fans Are Doing a Double Take

"Stayin' Alive" debuted quickly on the Billboard Hot 100 on December 10, 1977, and then hit No. 1 on February 4, 1978, and stayed at the top for four weeks.

While the song is synonymous with disco, "Stayin' Alive" is not featured in one of the movie's well-known dance scenes. Instead, it's well remembered in the opening credits of Saturday Night Fever, in which Brooklyn disco king Tony Manero (Travolta) confidently struts down 86th Street in time to the song's perfect 103 beats per minute (BPM) tempo.

One commenter on the video says it perfectly, "When you saw the feet and heard the beat, you automatically knew history was being made."

In 1979, the Bee Gees (brothers Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb, and Maurice Gibb) and "Stayin' Alive" won a Grammy for Best Vocal Arrangement for Two or More Voices, and the song was also nominated for a Record of the Year Grammy. The same year, the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack won the 1979 Grammy for Album of the Year.

Disney World Just Revealed 2027 Ticket Prices and One Park Is Hitting a New Peak

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 6:10am

If you're already looking ahead to your 2027 vacation, you might want to take a closer look at the calendar before hitting "book." Walt Disney World just pulled back the curtain on its ticket pricing for the first 10 months of 2027, and while the entry-level price remains steady, the cost of visiting during the busiest weeks of the year is officially hitting a new milestone.

According to a report by USA TODAY, top-tier tickets for the Magic Kingdom are set to climb to $219 on select peak dates next year. To put that in perspective, that is a 10% jump compared to the busiest days of 2025. It is a clear sign that Disney is leaning further into its "demand-based" pricing model, which essentially means the more people who want to be in the park, the more it will cost to get through the turnstiles.

So, why the price hike? It often comes down to the simple math of supply and demand. As AJ Wolfe of Disney Food Blog pointed out to USA TODAY, there is only so much physical space in the parks, and as crowds continue to swell, raising prices on peak dates is one way the resort manages that volume.

Plus, with massive projects on the horizon—like the upcoming Villains land and a reimagined "Tropical Americas" area at Animal Kingdom—the revenue from these tickets helps fuel the multi-billion dollar investments in the guest experience.

The good news? If you are flexible, you can still find ways to save. The lowest-priced tickets ($119 for Animal Kingdom) are still holding firm for 2027, particularly if you are willing to visit during the "value" window of August and September.

As Gavin Doyle of MickeyVisit.com noted, these lower-priced dates are a deliberate "lever" Disney uses to make sure the parks remain accessible to families who aren't tied to a holiday school break. If you’re eyeing a 2027 trip, the strategy is simple: go late summer if you want to save, or prepare for a bit of sticker shock if you're chasing the holiday magic.

"I wrote the song backstage one night in 1956 in Gladewater, Texas," Cash said in a 1997 interview, per Rocking in the Norselands. "I was newly married at the time, and I suppose I was laying out my pledge of devotion."

Cash, who was married to his first wife Vivian Liberto at the he wrote the song, said, "I wanted the lyrics to say, I’m going to be true to those who believe in me and depend on me to myself and God. Something like I’m still being true, or I'm 'Walking the Line.'"

"The lyrics came as fast as I could write," he recalled. "In 20 minutes, I had it finished."
