1963 Hit, From a Band That Formed in High School, Became a No. 1 Song 63 Years Ago Today

Mon, 08/03/2026 - 3:07pm

The Tymes was a group formed by teenagers in high school back in 1956, but they were originally called the Latineers. When they recruited a new lead vocalist, George Williams, they changed their name to The Tymes.

“So Much in Love” was their biggest hit in the United States. It was a rhythm and blues song released in 1963, which became a massive hit, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on August 3, exactly 63 years ago today. The song also reached No. 4 on the Hot R&B Singles chart.

In an interview with Warren Kurtz, Albert “Caesar” Berry spoke about the creation of their iconic song, crediting Williams with it. He explained that he and the other band members had been singing songs in his basement, but they didn’t have a lead singer. Then “[George] came in with a song called ‘As We Stroll Along,’ at the time. We rehearsed it and sang it many ways until it became the way people know it from its hit version, with the title change to ‘So Much in Love.’ When I heard it on the radio, it was like a dream come true.”

Berry continued, “When ‘So Much in Love’ was released, I didn’t tell anybody at work. They didn’t know it was me and asked me, ‘Did you hear that new song by The Tymes?’ I said, ‘Not quite,’ ha ha ha. I never let them know it was me because I didn’t think they would believe it.”

The Tymes had another huge hit with the song “Ms Grace,” which reached No. 1 on the UK Singles chart. The group was signed to Dick Clark’s Caravan of Stars, which was a series of live concert tours, in 1963. In 2005, they were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame.

When speaking about the differences between their success in the US and the UK, Berry said, "In the UK, they are more accepting of music, to a degree. Nothing seems to go out of style. We did several UK tours because of 'Ms. Grace' going to No. 1 and we received a gold record there. It is still a good beach music record here, even though it wasn’t a big U.S. hit. It is now accepted. It is a good shag song, so they say."

The surviving original members, Berry and Norman Burnett, still perform to this day.

Aldi Brought Back Its Bedside Organizer That's Perfect for Dorm Life

Mon, 08/03/2026 - 3:05pm

I don't know about you, but I can safely say my bedside table is an absolute disaster area. No matter how hard I try to keep it clear, its surface is always a receptacle for hair ties, water bottles, books, skincare and any number of other things. As soon as I clean it up, the clutter is back. I've accepted it as a fact of life at this point.

However, there are bedside organizers that could actually be the solution to my problems. Typically marketed for college dorm rooms, they're usually medium-size pouches that hang from the side of the bed and hold all of that stuff you want in arm's reach—from TV remotes and tablets to water bottles. This way your nightstand (if you even have space for one) can stay clean and clear.

Kirkton House Bedside Organizer, $6.99 at Aldi

Aldi

Seeing as we're in "back to campus" season, Aldi brought back its Kirkton House Bedside Organizer, a convenient pouch that hangs from the side of your bed frame and includes four separate pockets for storage of various items. There's a deep pocket to house a tablet or book, a slim vertical pocket for the ever-essential water bottle, and two smaller pockets for things like pens and your phone. And it just so happens to come in the loveliest lavender colorway, so you can keep things cute, too.

Because while some parents are actually hiring professional interior designers for their kid's dorm room, it's really the simplest things that make the biggest difference, like having a place to stash your stuff.

And by the way, Aldi is a great place to find budget-friendly dorm essentials. It's selling the daintiest ruffled comforter for just $19.99, and an area rug that looks just like a Pottery Barn style but for way less. You also won't want to sleep on these lovely cordless lamps that Aldi just brought back to its shelves for only $12.99 apiece.

All of this to say—don't be swayed by the social media hype. You can get a stylish (and organized) dorm room without spending a ton of money or hiring a pro designer, for that matter. Smart shopping will get you a long way.

'70s Rocker and Member of Beloved Rock Band Turns 80

Mon, 08/03/2026 - 2:45pm

A one-year run with one of rock's most influential groups is being remembered as its former bassist turns 80.

John York celebrates his milestone birthday on Monday, Aug. 3. Born in White Plains, N.Y., in 1946, York grew up surrounded by music. His mother and grandmother played at their church, while his mother also directed its choir.

York began playing in bands as a teenager and initially moved to Los Angeles hoping to pursue acting. Music soon took over. He performed with the Bees and the Sir Douglas Quintet, toured with the Mamas & the Papas and played in former Byrds member Gene Clark's backing group.

Those connections eventually led York to the Byrds. He replaced founding bassist Chris Hillman in 1968, joining Roger McGuinn, Clarence White and Gene Parsons in a new version of the group.

York contributed bass, vocals and songwriting to two 1969 albums, Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde and Ballad of Easy Rider. He co-wrote "Candy" with McGuinn for the former and wrote "Fido" for the latter.

By the time York joined, the Byrds had already made an enormous mark on popular music. Their version of Bob Dylan's "Mr. Tambourine Man" spent two weeks at No. 1 in the U.K. The group's five original members were later inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1991.

Although York's time in the Byrds lasted only about a year, it became the most famous part of a career that moved through several styles and collaborations. Looking back on how his career developed, York told The Creek FM, "I went where it felt natural for me. One little musical situation would lead to another, and I followed that for a number of years."

After leaving the group, York continued performing with Clark and later explored classical, Middle Eastern and Native American music. He also recorded several solo projects and became proficient on instruments from musical traditions around the world.

York remained active in recent years, contributing a version of "Runaway Train" to the 2022 compilation Americana Railroad and continuing to perform material from across his career. As he turns 80, his time with the Byrds remains an important piece of a musical life that never stayed in one place for long.

Founding Member of First Black Girl Group to Top Billboard Chart Turns 85

Mon, 08/03/2026 - 2:35pm

The Shirelles were arguably one of the most influential girl groups in history, paving the way for decades of all-female bands. Today, one of its founding members celebrates a major birthday.

Born on Aug. 3, 1941, in Passaic, NJ, Beverly Lee is one of the group's founding members. Lee and her bandmates — Shirley Owens, Doris Coley, and Addie "Micki" Harrisformed The Shirelles in 1957 when the then-teenagers were in high school. The group began by singing in a school talent show, impressing audiences. Critically, one audience member was Florence Greenberg of Tiara Records, who was the mother of a fellow student. The Shirelles were signed to the label, releasing their debut single, "I Met Him on a Sunday," in 1958.

A few years later in 1960, The Shirelles released “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” a track that would make history and make them the first Black all-female group to top the Billboard 100. The hit reached the No. 1 spot on Jan. 30, 1961, where it stayed for two weeks.

The beloved, although controversial due to its risqué — for its time — themes, track was written by an 18-year-old Carole King and her then-husband, Gerry Goffin. Lyrically, the song explores themes of intimacy, telling the story of a young woman sleeping with a man on a date. Per The Guardian, some of the more conservative radio stations reportedly banned the track from being played due to suggestive lyrics.

Per Rolling Stone, The Shirelles almost didn’t record “Will You Love Me Tomorrow.”

"I heard in later years that the Shirelles didn’t want to do it because it sounded too country," King recalled. “That’s a thing I’d never put together until now."

The group's chart-topping music was a source of inspiration to artists who would follow, including legendary British band The Beatles.

In 1996, The Shirelles were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

"I speak for all of us. I must say that we deserve this! I'm very, very grateful and we're very, very honored [to be inducted]. ...[The Shirelles] made wonderful music together," Lee said during the group's induction speech. "We had good times, we had bad times, but through it all we were troopers and God brought us through it. ...I'm proud to grace the stage [with Doris and Shirley] this evening — the songs that we did, may they live forever in your hearts!"

Here's How to Get Paid for Ordering Domino's Pizza This Month

Mon, 08/03/2026 - 2:30pm

Now you can get paid to try Domino’s new website and app. The beloved brand gave both platforms a major redesign earlier this year, and now they need beta testers.

So how can you get paid to try out the chain’s brand-new ordering experience? Don’t worry, you won’t have to go through a lengthy application process, and you don’t need to know how to code. Instead, the company is searching for customers who just want to order a pie (or any other items from their menu).

What is a Domino’s beta tester?

Beta testers are external users who try out new tech products. In this case, customers (like you) are the users who will try out Domino’s new online ordering and app-based platforms.

The pizza company notes that while most brands ask consumers for free feedback, they prefer to reward their loyal fans. And that means you’ll get a very special surprise.

How much does Domino’s pay beta testers?

This isn’t exactly a full-time pizza ordering job. But Domino’s will compensate you for your time. Customers who place qualifying online orders any time between August 3 and August 30 could earn $5 off their next purchase.

Domino’s Vice President of Global Marketing, Mark Messing, explained, “We streamlined our website and app to make them bolder, brighter, more modern, and engaging for customers, but we want to hear from them.”

Messing continued, “At the end of every online order, customers will have the chance to provide feedback on their ordering experience. While it’s not required to receive the coupon, we’d still love to hear what worked for them and what we could improve because we know customer feedback is what matters most. Earning a discount on pizza for sharing your opinion may be the easiest side gig ever.”

How can you test out Domino’s new online ordering platforms?

Click here to visit Domino’s revamped website. And did you catch what Messing said in his statement? Even though the company wants to reward customers for sharing their honest opinions of online ordering, you don’t have to rate the website or app to get your coupon.

That’s right! Just order your favorite meal from the national chain online or via the Domino’s app and get $5 off next week’s order.

The One Word That Captures Your Soul, Based on Your Birth Month

Mon, 08/03/2026 - 2:28pm

Some things about us are hard to put into words. But according to astrologers, the essence of your soul—the core part of you that existed before life circumstances shaped you—can be distilled into just one word. Your birth month carries its own cosmic frequency, and that energy reveals itself in a single defining word. Read on to discover the soul word that mirrors you, based on the time of year you were born.

Each Birth Month's Soul Word

Check for your birth month. Disregard your birth date.

January: Wise

January-born souls carry an old-soul wisdom that shows up early in life. Whether you were born under the star signCapricorn or Aquarius, you've always seemed to understand things before everyone else catches up. Your soul isn't loud about what it knows — it simply knows.

February: Free

February souls resist being boxed in, no matter how hard the world tries. There's an independent streak running through this birth month that refuses to conform just to make others comfortable. Your soul was built to wander its own path.

NEXT: The 4 Birth Months That Walk Their Talk

March: Tender

Those born in March feel everything, and they feel it deeply. There's a softness to how you move through the world, an openness that lets you connect with people on a level most others can't reach. Your tenderness isn't weakness. Rather, it's your superpower.

April: Bold

April souls don't wait for permission. There's a fire in this birth month that pushes you to act first and figure out the details later. Either a fiery Aries or rooted Taurus, this birth month carries a soul built for momentum. While others get stuck in hesitation, you leap into instinctive action.

May: Grounded

Those born in May innately know how to stay rooted, even when everything around them is shifting. There's a steadiness to your spirit that others lean on without even realizing it. Your soul finds peace in stability, as a steadfast Taurus or adaptable Gemini.

June: Curious

June souls are perpetually reaching for more — more knowledge, more connection, more understanding of how things work. Your mind rarely rests, and neither does your soul's appetite for discovery. As a Gemini or Cancer, you crave intellectual and emotional stimulation by immersing yourself in your environment.

July: Devoted

July-born souls love with their whole chest. Once someone earns your loyalty, you protect it fiercely, no matter the cost. Those born in July are built to nurture and defend the people who matter most, regardless of being a nurturing Cancer or passionate Leo.

August: Radiant

You don't just enter a room — you light it up. Leo or Virgo, there's a natural magnetism to this birth month, a warmth that draws people in without you even trying. People born in August were born to shine.

September: Precise

September-born souls have an eye for detail that borders on instinct. You notice what others miss, and you care about getting things right. This soul finds meaning in doing the work well, driven as a demure Virgo or collaborative Libra.

October: Alluring

Those born in October carry an effortless charm, a magnetic mystery that keeps people curious about what's underneath the surface. Drawing people in without saying a word is your forte, whether you're a charming Libra or a magnetic Scorpio.

November: Deep

November-borns don't do surface-level as a deep Scorpio or expansive Sagittarius. You're drawn to what's underneath — the hidden motives, the unspoken truths, the parts of life most people avoid looking at directly. Your soul craves depth over comfort.

December: Adventurous

You're wired for exploration. Born under expansive Sagittarius or ambitious Capricorn, you seek uncharted territory. Whether it's a new place, a new idea, or a new version of yourself, you're always chasing the horizon. Your soul was never meant to stay still.

1982 Spielberg Film Star, 77, Speaks About the Smash Hit's Success 44 Years Later

Mon, 08/03/2026 - 2:22pm

Dee Wallace played the mother, Mary Taylor, in the blockbuster hit, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. The Steven Spielberg film, which came out in 1982, won four Academy Awards and two Golden Globes. It was also a hit at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing film of all time for eleven years before being surpassed by another Spielberg film, Jurassic Park.

Wallace recently spoke with PEOPLE about the iconic film, admitting that the cast never expected it to become so iconic. “On the set, it was like being on any other set,” she said. “You arrived at 7 a.m., and you sat in your dressing room a lot and waited a lot, like you do on every set. You went home at 7 p.m. It was like shooting pretty much every other movie.”

She continued, “When it came out, it was a huge blockbuster! We were all pleasantly surprised. We knew when we were shooting it that we were making some kind of magic. We did know that, but to make a hit like E.T., it’s so much about timing. I mean, Steven’s blockbuster that summer was supposed to be Poltergeist. It really took everybody kind of by surprise, I think, that E.T. was such a smash hit.”

She went on to explain that there’s no way to tell which films are going to be a success or not. “You can sort of be prepared, but when it comes down to it, it’s really the public that decides,” she said. “With E.T., they did in a massive way. They decided that E.T. was their film, and they still are. I mean, it’s our Wizard of Oz.”

Wallace also spoke about how grateful she was that her work in such a legendary film didn’t get her typecast. “I wasn’t put in a cubby hole,” she said. “I was able to go back and forth from sitcoms, like Together We Stand and The New Lassie, to really, really heavy, dramatic parts. And I appreciated that a lot.”

She continued, “I joke a lot that I had to go to New Zealand and do The Frighteners to get me out of some of my mother roles because I did get pigeonholed there for a while after E.T., because being the mother in E.T. was such an iconic role. I did become everybody’s mother for a long time. And I’m proud of it.”

Wallace appeared in other notable films throughout her career, including The Stepford Wives, The Hills Have Eyes, Cujo, andHalloween. In addition to acting, she has also released a book called Bright Light, which she considers her spiritual autobiography. Wallace is now 77.

Tate McRae Responds to Political Rumors and MAGA Speculation

Mon, 08/03/2026 - 2:18pm

TateMcRae opens up about her political ideology.

The Canadian pop star spoke to Varietyfor a cover story from August 3. She addressed the rumors that she supports DonaldTrump and MAGA.

“I like to say my piece through organizations I support and the environment that I have on tour,” McRae explained.

The 23-year-old posted a TikTok last year promoting a “Little Miss Possessive” hoodie with a portion of the profit being donated to the Global Fund for Women and The Trevor Project, a suicide prevention organization for LGBTQ+ youth.

“I think it’s pretty obvious what kind of person I am and the things I support. And I hope that my fans can see that through the things that I’m putting my energy towards,” she said.

One of the main reasons fans claimed she was MAGA was after she joined MorganWallen for the song “What I Want.” The track debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100 but was not well received by fans. While Wallen has never publicly endorsed Trump, he is tied to conservative ideals.

McRae was also linked to New Jersey Devils center JackHughes

“I try to keep my relationships as sacred and private as possible,” she said. “I love the people in my life. They love me. You just try to keep that circle as positive and supportive as possible. And the outside noise, I can’t do anything about that. Focusing my energy on something that I can’t control, it just puts me in a bad mood.”

Hughes and Team USA faced scrutiny after laughing at a controversial joke by Trump during a call with the president after the hockey team’s Olympic gold-medal win.

The “Sports Car” singer completed a major career milestone after closing out the final day of Lollapalooza as a headliner on Sunday, August 2.

“There’s always thought about how you want your legacy to go down,” she said. “For me, the way to do that is try to beat your last performance, try to beat your last song, try to grow, evolve, pick it apart, rip it apart, figure out what didn’t work, what I didn’t like about that performance, what I could have done better, why I was nervous, figure out how to not be nervous. I think the more you can master yourself and your performances, the better you get.”

'Wizards of Waverly Place's Jennifer Stone Reacts to Selena Gomez’s Wedding: 'I Was a Total Mess' (Exclusive)

Mon, 08/03/2026 - 2:00pm

Our favorite TV best friends are finally reuniting on-screen, but their real-life friendship has been strong for years following the end of Wizards of Waverly Place.

Jennifer Stone, who played Harper Finkle in the Disney Channel series that premiered in 2007, is returning in the four-part finale of the show’s spinoff Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. The show follows the children of siblings Alex and Justin Russo, played by Selena Gomez and David Henrie, as they develop their magical abilities inherited from their parents. Harper is Alex’s mortal best friend who sticks by her side through thick and thin, especially when Alex’s rebellious nature got the best of her.

Stone and Gomez’s friendship still holds strong almost 20 years after the show’s premiere. Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco got married in September 2025 as shared via her Instagram. Many of her celebrity friends, including Taylor Swift, Steve Martin, and Martin Short were, of course, in attendance. But fans were extra excited when Selena posted a photo of herself and Stone on her wedding day. David DeLuise, who played her character’s father Jerry Russo in Wizards, also attended the ceremony.

Parade got the chance to chat with Stone about her long-lasting friendship with Selena ahead of her character’s return in the final season of the continuation series, and what it meant to her to watch Gomez get married. She responded immediately, saying, “I was a mess.”

Stone continued, “We grew up together. I mean, she was my high school best friend, and it was something that she had talked about wanting since we were teenagers. She's such a special human being, and she deserves someone so special that sees her and honors her and takes care of each other, and they take care of each other. The moment she walked down the aisle: waterworks, waterworks. I was a mess, a total mess. And I just could not be happier for her. I think Benny’s incredible and I could not have dreamed up a better partnership for each other. And that's my favorite part, is the fact that they're just good for each other.”

The two friends recently posted that they attended the West End Production of Romeo & Juliet starring Sadie Sink in June 2026 via Instagram stories.

Since the original show ended, Stone became an E.R. nurse in December 2019, just months before the COVID-19 pandemic began. She joked, “My timing is impeccable.” She also explained that “acting was never off the table” for her. Stone shared that she grew up with Type 1 Diabetes and spent a lot of time with nurses as a patient and “went back to do nursing because I felt like I could really make a difference.”

Stone also opened up about how nursing helped her become a better actor, saying, “It was definitely a beautiful, unexpected challenge, but also a gift because it's changed the way I view the world and people, and it's given me great perspective, and it's made me a better actor.”

Fans will get to see Stone as Harper Finkle once again in the finale event of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, premiering Aug. 4, 2026, on Disney Channel and streaming the next day on Disney+.

As a home cook, I often wander the kitchen in search of items that have been misplaced or shuffled to a random drawer because they simply don't have a dedicated home. At first, it's just a minor inconvenience. Over time, though, it becomes a real bottleneck. Meals take longer to prep, stress builds, and the whole cooking process can feel chaotic when tools and ingredients aren't where they need to be in the moment.

This is especially true for anyone who bakes regularly. If you own a stand mixer, a collection of mixing bowls, and a growing lineup of baking tools, you quickly learn that adequate storage isn't a luxury—it's a necessity. Without a clear place for these essentials, counters become cluttered, cabinets overflow, and the joy of baking gets buried under a pile of I'll just put this here for now.

1979 Hit, With 21-Year-Old Singer, Became a Generational No. 1 Hit

Mon, 08/03/2026 - 1:46pm

One of the most recognizable sounds of the 1980s reached listeners before the decade had even begun.

Gary Numan was only 21 years old when he released "Cars" in August 1979. The song served as the first single from his debut solo album, The Pleasure Principle, and quickly separated his work from the guitar-heavy music that dominated much of the decade.

Numan had already found success as the frontman of Tubeway Army, which scored a U.K. No. 1 earlier that year with "Are 'Friends' Electric?" For his first release under his own name, he placed synthesizers at the center of the song and left more than half of the recording without lyrics.

The opening riff began with the first four notes Numan played after picking up a bass guitar he had recently purchased. He later told Billboard that the entire song took him just 10 minutes to write.

"There is no way you can put that down to any kind of talent," Numan said of the moment. "That is just as lucky as you can get!"

Despite Numan's assessment, the recording showed how effectively electronic instruments could carry a pop song. Its layered Minimoog parts, steady bass and extended instrumental section gave "Cars" a sound unlike nearly anything else on the charts at the time.

"There was a lot of resistance to synths," Numan later explained, adding that he believed "electronic music could be very emotive."

The song reached No. 1 on the U.K. singles chart on Sept. 22, 1979 and remained on the chart for 11 weeks. By the following summer, it had climbed to No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Numan's only U.S. Top 10 hit.

Its reach continued well beyond those chart runs. Pitchfork later traced the song's impact from Bronx hip-hop to Detroit techno, while artists including Prince, Foo Fighters and Trent Reznor have recognized Numan's influence.

More than four decades later, the opening notes of "Cars" remain instantly familiar. What began with a 21-year-old musician testing out a new bass became a No. 1 hit that helped prepare listeners for an entirely new era of pop.

Trump Weighs In on FBI's Role in Nancy Guthrie Case, Gives Pima County Investigators the ‘Benefit’ of the Doubt

Mon, 08/03/2026 - 1:46pm

It’s been just over six months since Today co-host Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, disappeared. And now Arizona’s Pima County Sheriff’s Department is under scrutiny for potential errors. While the media spotlight is on the local authorities, things took a federal turn when reporters recently asked Donald Trump to comment on the investigation and whether he felt the FBI should get involved.

Updates flowed, and speculation swirled over the weekend. Last Friday, local Arizona authorities released two ransom notes allegedly from the kidnappers. One of the notes (which was initially sent to a Tucson news outlet in February) claims that the 84-year-old died due to what they believed were heart-related issues, writing, “She is buried in nature now. Nothing you could have done could have changed the outcome. We want your family to know this and hope you all can find peace. We are truly sorry.”

The other note took a different tone, demanding a $4 million bitcoin payment by February 5, saying, “Do not play games, law enforcement will not be able to help you.”

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department released both letters in hopes of garnering new leads. That said, on August 1, the Wall Street Journal published a new article citing reports that cast doubt on the Pima County sheriff and lead investigators, leading to a backlash against the local authorities.

Following the criticism, reporters asked the President what he thought about the investigation into Guthrie’s disappearance. More specifically, while speaking to the press from Air Force One on August 2, a reporter pressed Trump, “Is it time for the FBI to get involved?”

Trump answered, “Well, they are involved. To an extent, but as you know, the local community really runs those things. And some people haven’t liked the way the local community is running.” He continued, “They haven’t liked the way the sheriff’s running. But we would like to give them the benefit. But we’re there anytime they need us. Well, it’s a terrible thing.”

Savannah Guthrie recently posted (on Instagram) a gut-wrenching plea for help, writing, “Six months ago, someone took her out of bed in the dead of night. We have lived every moment, every breath, and every heartbeat in agony and despair ever since.”

View this post on Instagram

She continued, referencing the newly released notes, “We are begging for help. We are desperate. We need someone to come forward. Someone knows something. Someone suspects something. Someone recognizes the writing in the ransom demand notes.”

The Guthrie family is offering a $1 million reward for the safe return of Savannah’s mother, and the FBI is also offering a $100,000 reward for credible information leading to Nancy’s location and/or anyone involved in the kidnapping’s arrest/conviction.

Scott Eastwood Name-Drops 'Psychopath' Co-Star He Got Into a Heated Confrontation With: 'Enough is Enough'

Mon, 08/03/2026 - 1:42pm

Scott Eastwood is clearing the air on a heated confrontation he had while working on the set of Fury, and having had enough of Shia LaBeouf's attitude during filming.

Alongside Eastwood, Brad Pitt, LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Michael Peña, and Jon Bernthalstarred in the 2014 war film Fury. Focusing on an American tank crew during the final weeks of World War II, the film did well at the box office, but Eastwood claims there was tension on set.

During Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, the actor reveals he butted heads with LaBeouf after a certain scene that led him to face his co-star face-to-face. Eastwood even admits that working with the Transformers star was incredibly "tough" due to the actor being a controversial figure and method acting.

“One day, he was having an episode and thought I shouldn’t be spitting tobacco on the tank — which was in the script — and then I finally said enough is enough," explained Eastwood.

“I said, ‘F—k you. Stop pulling your s—t.’ I said, ‘I’m gonna whoop your ass,'" revealed the actor. It was also reported that Pitt was the one who came between them to break up the "tense" moment.

The Gran Torino star adds that LaBeouf had issues with others during the filming of Fury, but the actor's extreme method technique made him think, “And I remember thinking, ‘OK. This guy’s crazy. I’m just gonna keep clear from this guy. I don’t play this game.'”

In Pitt's 2014 British GQ spread, Lerman even commented that it was an "odd request" for LaBeouf to go to a dentist to extract one of his teeth for the role. The Disturbia star even cut his own face to create real wounds instead of relying on prosthetics. At the time, Eastwood even called LaBeouf a "complete pain in the ass."

The incident of Eastwood spitting on the tank didn't just rile LaBeouf, but Pitt as well, as neither of the actors had any idea it was actually written in the script. At the time, Pitt saw it as disrespectful to the machinery and their time on the film.

"Shia clocks it, and you have to understand, we've been through severe boot camp already, we've been through a lot in this tank. Shia saw it and felt the same - he's disrespecting our home. So Shia had the same reaction I did, and started having some words," said Pitt.

As Labeouf and Eastwood got out of hand, "then I had to get in after the cameras were rolling, and explain it to Scotty, you know.."

During the podcast, Eastwood commented that he told his co-star to “Grow the f—k up." He also added that, “It’s funny. The film industry attracts psychopaths because it’s art and business and they kind of intersect.”

LaBeouf has had troubles on set before, with the actor having, in 2026, been the center of an arrest for "simple battery" in New Orleans.

Here’s Exactly What Happens to Your Blood Pressure When You Sit Outside All Day in the Heat, According to a Cardiologist

Mon, 08/03/2026 - 1:25pm

When it comes to supporting your cardiovascular health, there are likely two major factors that come to mind: diet and exercise.

It’s true that what you eat and how much you move impacts heart health in major ways. Scientific research has repeatedly shown that following a Mediterranean diet style of eating (having a diet consisting primarily of plant-based foods, foods high in unsaturated fats and low in x) is associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, which is the number one cause of death in the U.S.

As for exercise, scientific research shows that regular exercise is a cornerstone of cardiovascular disease prevention and lowers the risk of premature death.

Though diet and exercise are important, they aren’t the only factors that influence cardiovascular health. Having healthy ways to manage stress, consistently getting enough sleep and maintaining social connections are all important for heart health too.

The weather also impacts heart health—particularly summer heat. Here, a cardiologist explains the surprising way that being outside in the hot weather can impact blood pressure

How Heat Impacts Blood Pressure

Most people don’t think about how the weather can impact heart health, but there’s a very real connection that it’s important to be aware of. Dr. Nieca Goldberg, MD, a cardiologist at NYU Langone Health and the founder of the Joan H. Tisch Center for Women’s Health at NYU Langone, explains that spending a prolonged amount of time outside in the summer heat can cause blood pressure to drop, which can be dangerous.

“When your body gets too warm, your blood vessels widen to help release heat. This can cause blood pressure to decrease, particularly if you become dehydrated from sweating,” she says. While you might think that lowering blood pressure is beneficial (isn’t that what we’re all trying to do?), when it happens due to heat, it can be dangerous.

“The degree of change varies from person to person, as factors such as weight and fitness level can also play a role. Some people may feel lightheaded or dizzy, especially when standing up quickly or after being outside for an extended period,” Dr. Goldberg adds.

Other Ways Heat Impacts Cardiovascular Health

In addition to causing blood pressure to drop, Dr. Goldberg says that hot weather places additional demands on the heart because it has to work harder to cool the body. As a result, you may notice your heart rate rises more quickly, even during activities that normally feel easy.

“Fluid loss from sweating can also reduce blood volume, making it more difficult for the heart to circulate blood efficiently,” Dr. Goldberg says. For people with heart disease, these changes can contribute to symptoms such as chest discomfort, shortness of breath or fainting.

The impact of heat on the heart can be deadly. According to a 2024 scientific study published in Circulation Research, there is a clear link between heat and an increased rate of death from cardiovascular disease. Researchers found that there is a 2.1% increase in cardiovascular disease mortality for every one degree increase in temperature.

How To Stay Safe During Summer

With this in mind, it’s important to know how to protect your cardiovascular health during summer, especially if you have cardiovascular disease. Dr. Goldberg says that people with heart disease, low blood pressure, obesity, diabetes or kidney disease should be especially cautious during periods of extreme heat.

So should elderly adults. “Older adults are also at increased risk because they may not regulate body temperature as effectively or recognize the early signs of heat-related illness,” Dr. Goldberg says. Additionally, certain medications, including diuretics and some blood pressure medications, can increase the risk of dehydration or make it harder for the body to adapt to high temperatures.

To proactively look after your health, Dr. Goldberg recommends focusing on prevention and preparedness, sharing these tips: “Plan outdoor activities during the cooler parts of the day, stay well hydrated, wear lightweight clothing and take breaks in the shade or air conditioning."

If you have heart disease or another chronic medical condition, she suggests talking with your healthcare provider about how to stay safe during periods of extreme heat and whether any adjustments to your routine or medications may be appropriate.

It’s also important to know the warning signs that heat is negatively impacting your cardiovascular system. Dr. Goldberg says that this includes dizziness, lightheadedness, excessive fatigue, palpitations, chest discomfort, shortness of breath or fainting.

“These symptoms should not be ignored, particularly in someone with a history of heart disease,” she tells Parade. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, stop what you are doing and move to a cool or air-conditioned place. “Drink water if you are able, loosen tight clothing and rest. If symptoms do not improve promptly, or if you experience chest pain, persistent shortness of breath, confusion or loss of consciousness, go to the ER immediately,” she adds.

Blood pressure that’s consistently too high isn’t good for your heart, but neither is blood pressure that drops too quickly or is too low. Protect yourself by staying hydrated and avoiding being out in extreme heat, if possible. That way, you can enjoy the sunny weather without compromising your health.

Is Carson Daly Leaving 'The Voice'? Season 31 Hosting Shakeup Reportedly Revealed

Mon, 08/03/2026 - 1:20pm

The one constant since The Voicepremiered in 2011 is that Carson Daly has served as host. He is the last original cast member of the NBC singing competition, which launched with coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Cee-Lo Green and Christina Aguilera. Of course, Levine will return for Season 30, and is back now after an absence from May 2019 to February 2025

But now,the U.S. Sunreports that Daly is out for Season 31. TV Insideradds that Reddit users who attended the filming of The Voice Season 31 Blind Auditions, which have already filmed, claim that Keke Palmer is the new host of the show. However, NBC has not confirmed that fact.

Daly, who is a Today correspondent and resides on the East Coast, apparently made the decision to bow out of Season 31 because of his demanding work schedule and to spend more time with his family.

“He wasn’t able to make the upcoming season’s schedule work with his Today show schedule,” the Sun reported. “So, his Today workload mixed with not wanting to be away from family this next year made him say ‘no’ to hosting 31.”

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Officially Makes Box Office History — Biggest Opening Weekend of All Time

Mon, 08/03/2026 - 1:17pm

Spider-Man: Brand New Day swung into theaters on July 31, and its historic opening has officially displaced Avengers: Endgame as the biggest domestic opening weekend of all time.

Spider-Man might be more powerful than all the Avengers combined, Variety wrote — at least when it comes to box office success. Endgame’s first weekend grossed $357 million, and Sony estimated that Brand New Day would make around $355 million. However, the new film made history with a record-setting $360 million opening.

“Wow! 360 million thank-yous to all the filmmakers, actors, producers, and to my colleagues at Sony, who created such a fantastic film and an exceptional marketing and distribution campaign,” Tom Rothman, chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, said in a statement. “Records are made to be broken, but we will take great pride in this one, for as long as we hold it.”

Ravi Ahuja, chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment, is also celebrating Spider-Man’s success. He began a note to his staff saying, “What a weekend!”

“The final ticket count on Sunday night confirmed what once seemed unimaginable: Spider-Man: Brand New Day delivered the biggest domestic opening weekend of all time with $360 million and a remarkable $932 million globally — a historic achievement for Sony Pictures, and a new benchmark for the industry,” Ahuja said. “Audiences around the world have embraced a superhero film that feels grounded, emotional, and unmistakably distinct.”

Ahuja’s note continued, congratulating and thanking Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton, producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal, and Tom Holland “for bringing new depth to Spider-Man.”

“Results like this are only possible when our creators and studio have the confidence to find new dimensions with iconic IP through bold creative choices, world-class marketing and distribution, and outstanding execution,” Ahuja said. “This weekend is a powerful reminder that moviegoing remains one of the world’s great shared cultural experiences. Let’s keep making history!”

In addition to being the highest-grossing opening weekend of all time, Brand New Day also broke records with its Wednesday and Thursday previews. It scored $72 million, becoming the biggest domestic previews in cinema history — a record that was previously held by Endgame at $60 million.

Brand New Day stars Holland as Spider-Man/Peter Parker and Zendaya as MJ. Navigating a world that no longer remembers him, Peter continues to fight crime while watching his friends move on without him. The pressure begins to spark changes in him, and new foes surface. Watch the trailer here.

Suri Noelle Steps Out for the First Time Since Major Life Change Made Headlines

Mon, 08/03/2026 - 1:15pm

Suri Noelle is stepping into a new chapter.

The only daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes was photographed over the weekend in Pennsylvania, marking her first public appearance since quietly dropping "Cruise" from her name.

The 20-year-old was seen wearing white linen pants, a purple spaghetti strap top, and a pair of black flats, according to photos published by Page Six. She appeared to be in good spirits as she chatted with a friend outside of the Trust Arts Education Center in downtown Pittsburgh. The outlet reported that Suri starred in two "Midsummer!" shows at Peirce Studio this summer.

While the name change only recently became public, records suggest it wasn't a new decision. On July 27, Page Six reported that Suri had been using "Suri Noelle" for some time. The outlet obtained her Pennsylvania voter registration, dated October 2024, which reportedly lists her as "Suri Noelle" rather than her birth name, "Suri Cruise."

🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox. 🎬

The move isn't at all surprising to many fans who have followed Suri's life over the past two decades. Suri has not had a relationship with her father in many years. Holmes filed for divorce from Cruise in June 2012. In the years that followed, Suri was primarily raised by her mother, who decided to move to New York.

"That time was intense," Holmes told InStyle in 2020. "It was a lot of attention, and I had a little child on top of it. We had some funny moments out and about in public."

Today, Suri appears to be focused on college and carving out a life of her own away from the Hollywood spotlight. Judging by her latest public appearance, she's embracing that next chapter on her own terms.
