The search for Nancy Guthrie has entered a critical phase.

Six months after Savannah Guthrie’s mother, 84, disappeared from her Arizona home, investigators continue working to uncover what happened. While the case has remained without a major public breakthrough, experts say history shows that missing person investigations can change quickly when new information, evidence or a single crucial tip emerges.

On Monday, Aug. 3, NBC's national law and intelligence correspondent Tom Winter discussed the Pima County Sheriff's decision to release the ransom note that was sent to media outlets in the early days of the investigation.

"I think it underscores two things in speaking with people in law enforcement, the first is just how seriously they're taking these notes and the attention that they've put on them has only increased over time," Winter said on Today. "And we've heard it from Savannah [Guthrie] herself, that they do believe that there is something serious to these and that they are very much worthy of the investigation's consideration."

"It also underscores something else. Would you be putting these notes out if they were keying in on a suspect, if they were searching an area? I think it tells us a lot about where this investigation has been up to this point, which is very difficult. They don't have a suspect, they are looking for the public's help, and that's the reason why they're putting this information out, to see if maybe somebody recognizes something in these notes that can get them closer to it," he added.

"There's precedent for this, of course. It was done in the Unabomber investigation, quite successfully. It led to a family member, through their attorney, contacting the FBI that led to a break in that case," Winter continued, referring to Ted Kaczynski, who was arrested back in 1996. At the time, it was Kaczynski's brother who recognized his writing style in a published manifesto.

With the official release of the ransom note, Winter noted that history shows how seemingly small pieces of information can become significant when they reach the right person. For now, the Pima County Sheriff's Department and FBI continue to urge anyone with information about Guthrie's disappearance to come forward as they work to find answers.

The first chords of "Shine" or "December" still snap many fans (of a certain ago) back to a mid-'90s summer. That muscle memory is exactly why Collective Soul's newest record is such a jolt for the people who grew up on them.

Touch and Go, which arrived on streaming services on July 31 after a limited Record Store Day pressing in April, is not the crunchy, guitar-forward rock the Georgia band built its name on. It is a full pivot into New Wave, shaped in the image of The Cars. The album's title itself is a nod to that group, whose fingerprints run through all ten tracks.

Ed Roland has been open about the swerve. Speaking with Ultimate Classic Rock, the frontman described a record laced with deliberate callbacks, inviting longtime fans to pick out the guitar lines, keyboards and vocals that echo the band behind "Just What I Needed" and "Good Times Roll." It is a striking turn for a group long filed under post-grunge, which early reviews have noticed. One assessment of the album singled out how closely Roland's vocals sound like the late Ric Ocasek's.

Fans have followed the band for decades: brothers Ed and Dean Roland, bassist Will Turpin, guitarist Jesse Triplett and drummer Johnny Rabb. Since forming in Stockbridge, Georgia, in 1992, Collective Soul turned a run of radio staples like "December," "The World I Know" and "Gel" into multi-platinum success, then kept working long after the '90s alt-rock wave receded. Touch and Go is one more entry in a catalog that now spans more than a dozen studio albums.

The experiment reflects how the group operates now, a year after the release of the first documentary about their career. Roland told Ultimate Classic Rock that the New Wave detour was a passion project, and that a straight-ahead rock record is already in the works for a future release. That restlessness was there from the start of the rollout, when the band first unveiled the album as a colored-vinyl exclusive built for fans who still value the physicality of holding a record.

For an audience that came of age with "The World I Know" on constant rotation, the draw is twofold. There is the comfort of a familiar band still making music together three decades on, and the curiosity of hearing them sound like the era just before their own. Songs like "Rainbow" and "Eye on You" will likely sound unfamiliar to longtime fans. But it should be fun.

The moment a scheming shapeshifter becomes the dark lord every Tolkien reader already dreads has been building since this series began. Season 3 of Prime Video's Middle-earth saga finally reaches it, and the studio picked the biggest geek-related stage of the year to show fans exactly how it happens.

During the show's Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, before a crowd of more than 6,500, Prime Video debuted the first Season 3 teaser. The trailer confirmed a November 11 premiere for the opening four episodes, with the rest of the season rolling out through November 25. It also set a noticeably darker tone, centered on the event the whole saga has pointed toward: Sauron forging the One Ring.

The panel's biggest surprise arrived in a featurette on the season's creatures. The Balrog, the fiery demon best known for blocking Gandalf's path in The Fellowship of the Ring, will speak for the first time in the series, voiced by Simon Pegg. In the story, Sauron learns how to forge the One Ring from the Balrog itself. The showrunners described the creature as an "intelligent dangerous adversary" and said they wanted to give it a scene opposite Sauron.

Prime Video also unveiled a wave of new cast members. Stranger Things star Jamie Campbell Bower joins as Celeborn, Galadriel's long-lost love and, in Tolkien's writing, her husband. Eddie Marsan plays the dwarven royal Thrain, Andrew Richardson plays Anarion, Zubin Varla plays the Ringwraith Khamûl the Easterling, and Adam Young plays an original orc named Marnûkh. The trailer opens in the blackened wastes of Mordor, where Sauron, played by Charlie Vickers, declares "Now, is the mighty hour come" as molten metal fills a familiar ring-shaped mold. The teaser then shifts to a warmer image of Galadriel, played by Morfydd Clark, dancing with Celeborn, a rare bright moment against the season's grim backdrop.

Midway through the panel, a group of armored Nazgûl, the early Second Age forerunners of the Ringwraiths, marched onstage through smoke and lights, moments after Vickers joked about whether he had the One Ring on him. Payne and McKay also teased that some orcs would get hero arcs this season, a hint at the show's willingness to complicate Tolkien's traditional villains.

The stakes feel higher this time because the audience knows where the story is headed. Season 3 leans into the pieces of Middle-earth lore that longtime fans already know, from the birth of the Ringwraiths to the ring that will one day consume Frodo. Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay return, with the season built to draw the show closer to the events of Peter Jackson's films.

The Charlie Daniels Band was known for combining blues, rock, country, and jazz into their hits, with "Long Haired Country Boy" having been a standout track that went through some changes after its release.

Released first as part of their 1974 album Fire on the Mountain, the track later found resurgence when it was released as a single in 1975. Critics praised its "fine lyrics," and it landed at No. 56 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. A few years later, it would be re-released in 1980 and land on Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks at No. 27.

"Long Haired Country Boy" was originally released with different lyrics that singer-songwriter Charlie Daniels later felt didn't speak to him anymore. The track focuses on a very passive attitude man who does nothing all day. It was a tongue-in-cheek track that referenced drugs and alcohol. Daniels told SongFacts that the song wasn't particularly about a personal experience, but about how he felt at the time as a musician.

"If you don't like me, we don't need to have any trouble, we don't need to be going upside each other's head or anything," he told Songfacts. "Just leave me alone. Just walk around me. Maybe you don't like the way my hair looks, maybe you don't like the way I eat my soup, or whatever it is that you don't like about me, it doesn't make any difference to me. I don't care. If you don't like me it's okay," he explained.

He went on to add that there's no need to cause problems if you disagree with someone's way of life. It's a track about coexisting despite differences. The rocker recalls having written the track while he was sitting down in his kitchen and his wife was busy doing something. He started developing the track on his guitar when he asked her how it sounded.

"Long Haired Country Boy" would become a live show staple for Daniels and the band, but after some time, he felt its lyrics no longer reflected who he was.

"Things have gotten so serious, and it's such a big problem with drugs and alcohol with kids, and it just went against my Christian feelings to actually do anything that somebody could construe as promoting that lifestyle, or those things, the alcohol and drugs," explained Daniels.

Daniels explains that the track was so popular among fans and at their concerts that he made a decision. "I changed 'I get stoned in the morning, I get drunk in the afternoon' to 'I get up in the morning, I get down in the afternoon,' which means the same thing. I wish I had done that to start with," he said.

Some songs take months, or even years, to write. The Manhattans' biggest hit came together in just one night.

Released in 1976, "Kiss and Say Goodbye" became the vocal group's signature song after songwriter and bassist Winfred "Blue" Lovett penned it overnight. Fifty years ago today, the soulful ballad reached the pinnacle of the Billboard Hot 100, cementing its place as one of the defining love songs of the decade.

Lovett had originally written the song years earlier but struggled to finish it.

Inspiration finally struck one evening, and he completed the remaining lyrics and melody in a single night.

"Back then I was into listening a lot to country things," Lovett later recalled in an interview. "Lionel Richie jumped the gun on me, but I had been listening for three or four years. I liked a lot of things Glen Campbell was doing... and Charley Pride."

The finished song centered on a bittersweet farewell between two lovers, telling the story with remarkable honesty and emotional restraint rather than anger or resentment.

The recording immediately stood out.

Opening with spoken dialogue before giving way to lead singer Gerald Alston's heartfelt vocal performance, "Kiss and Say Goodbye" blended lush orchestration with smooth harmonies that became synonymous with the Philadelphia soul sound of the era. Its emotional sincerity resonated with audiences across musical genres.

The song quickly became an international phenomenon.

Released as the lead single from The Manhattans, it climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and also topped the Hot Soul Singles chart. Beyond the United States, "Kiss and Say Goodbye" reached No. 1 in several countries, making it one of the biggest-selling singles of 1976 and introducing The Manhattans to a worldwide audience.

"We liked 'Kiss and Say Goodbye,' but didn't think it was for us," Alston told Goldmine. "Blue Lovett, from our group, wrote it, I think for Mac Davis, who was also on Columbia with us, but the people at the record company decided that they wanted us to record it. So we recorded it and I never put my planned final vocal on 'Kiss and Say Goodbye.' I put a scratch vocal on it for the background, but it goes to show you that the feeling that you have when you first do a song, a lot of times, is the right feeling. We didn't think we wanted it, but it turned out to be a perfect song. It went platinum because of the story and the feelings that we projected when we sang it."

Its popularity has endured for decades.

The ballad has been covered by numerous artists, sampled by contemporary musicians, and remains a staple of classic R&B and oldies radio. Its timeless message and unforgettable melody have helped it become one of the most recognizable soul recordings ever made.

"The Manhattans as a group will be celebrating 54 years in existence and it's the type of songs we sing that people love to hear," Alston told Spectrum News in 2016. "The songs that we recorded 30 years ago sound just as good today as they did yesterday."

Fifty years after reaching No. 1, "Kiss and Say Goodbye" continues to resonate with listeners around the world. What Winfred "Blue" Lovett completed overnight ultimately became The Manhattans' defining hit, a classic that has never lost its emotional power.

Jenna von Oy, who rose to fame as Six on Blossom, just made a rare public appearance.

von Oy, 49, catapulted to stardom in the role of Six, the best friend of Mayim Bialik on Blossom, the hit '90s sitcom about a young woman living with her single dad and two brothers. The series was a staple of the decade, providing various "very special episodes" and comedic moments for viewers. After the series ended in 1995, von Oy went off to college for a couple of years before returning to acting roles. But these days, the star only occasionally hits the TV screen. That's why it was a surprise to see von Oy hitting the convention circuit this weekend.

Reflecting On Their Blossom Years

Back in 2017, Bialik and von Oÿ reunited and opened up about how special the series was.

“We were awkward,” Bialik told Entertainment Weekly. “And—”

“We represented your typical adolescent teenager,” added von Oÿ, “who hasn’t found themselves yet. And that was a beautiful thing.”

“We got to kiss boys and also study hard and be proud of that,” said Bialik. “Or be with our families and also have a social life.”

Blossom creator Don Reo noted that the stars' approachability was one of the most successful components of the show.

“Mayim looked like the audience, and so did Jenna,” said Reo. “They weren’t cookie-cutter, perfect, little, blonde Disney creatures. I think that was a big part of it. They were relatable, and the stories were relatable.”

One of the biggest decisions anyone can make is how to best represent their loved ones when it's time to say goodbye.

No pun intended, but Frank Sinatra wanted to 'say goodbye' to one of his top hits after performing it night after night, once ranting to a Caesars Palace crowd, "I hate this song — you sing it for eight years, you would hate it too!"

His fans, however, never fell out of love with it. That song, of course, is "My Way," which now ranks ahead of "Amazing Grace" as one of the most requested funeral songs in 2026, according to public data across the UK, US, Australia, Ireland, and Canada.

Of course, there may be a little tongue-in-cheek humor behind the choice. "My Way" celebrates someone who marched to the beat of their own drum, whether anyone else liked it or not, making it a fitting sendoff for those who truly lived life on their own terms — or a playful farewell from loved ones who'd probably agree they always did things their way.

The powerful ballad was written in 1968, becoming a major hit the following year. It has unquestionably stood the test of time.

Its origin story is just as memorable.

Originally composed as the French song "Comme d'habitude," Paul Anka gave it an entirely new identity after Sinatra casually mentioned over dinner that he was thinking about retiring. Anka later rewrote the lyrics as though they were Sinatra's own life story.

Long story short, it's been estimated to have been performed well over 4 million times since its 1969 release, per CBS News.

That later became somewhat ironic, as Sinatra eventually grew tired of performing it. Even so, it became one of his biggest hits, reaching No. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100 despite the charts shifting toward rock and soul, and holds the most weeks ever spent on the UK singles chart, at 124 weeks.

Still popular more than five decades later, it's now the second most requested song played at funerals, sitting behind "Abide with Me," an 1800s hymn, and ahead of "Amazing Grace," the beloved 18th-century hymn written by John Newton.

At just 15 years old, Graham Gouldman wrote "Bus Stop," the 1966 hit that would help establish The Hollies as one of the British Invasion's biggest bands. It was one of several successful songs Gouldman wrote as a teenager, with artists including The Yardbirds and Herman's Hermits also recording his material. 

As word spread about Gouldman's songwriting, his growing list of hits included The Yardbirds' "For Your Love" and "Heart Full of Soul," Herman's Hermits' "No Milk Today" and "Listen People," and The Hollies' "Bus Stop."

During the day, Gouldman worked in a Manchester menswear shop, but at night he was a guitarist in The Mockingbirds. The Beatles inspired him to try songwriting, and after Columbia Records signed the band, his songs soon found their way to other artists.

Gouldman got the idea for "Bus Stop" during his daily commute. He regularly rode Manchester's No. 95 bus route, and the scenes along the way provided the setting for the song. 

After sharing the concept with his father, Gouldman was given the song's opening lyric: “Bus stop, wet day, she's there, I say, please share my umbrella.” 

Once he had that starting point, Gouldman knew he had found the direction for the song. Speaking with BBC Wales' Alan Thompson in 2015, he explained, “When you have such a great start to a song, it's kind of like the rest is easy. It's like finding your way onto a road, and when you get onto the right route, you just follow it.”

On his next bus ride to work, Gouldman found another piece of the song coming to him. Speaking with Mojo magazine in 2011, he said that most songs take patience, but every so often, everything comes together at once. 

“When I’d written most of ‘Bus Stop,’ I was actually on a bus thinking about how the middle eight should go. And this whole, Every morning I would see her waiting at the stop / Sometimes she’d shop … that all came to me in one gush, and I couldn’t wait to get home to try it. When that sort of thing happens, it’s really amazing. But that’s rare. Mostly, you have to do the slog.”

The Hollies eventually heard Gouldman’s songs through a meeting arranged with the teenage songwriter. In his 2014 memoir Wild Tales: A Rock & Roll Life, Graham Nash recalled that the band wasn't expecting much. 

“We got a call from our old friend and manager, Michael Cohen. … So we go over to the address he gave us, a semidetached house in one of the better neighborhoods in Manchester, to meet this so-called songwriter, a fifteen-year-old Jewish kid named Graham Gouldman.”

Nash admitted the group planned to put the young songwriter to the test. “Now, we’re the Hollies, and we know we’re the Hollies, so we’re not going to make it easy on him, kid or no kid.”

“I threw Mr. Songwriter one of my best stony stares and said, ‘Okay, kid, give it your best shot.’ He picked up an acoustic guitar and started playing ‘Bus Stop.’ … Tony [Hicks], Allan [Clarke], and I are cutting glances at each other, and … we know this is a hit song. We know what we can do with it, too, putting a Hollies spin on the tune.”

Before leaving, Nash asked if Gouldman had written anything else. “Before the words were out of my mouth, he started singing, ‘Look through any window, yeah, what do you see?’ We just stopped and stared.”

By the end of the visit, the group had found not one, but two songs they knew they wanted. 

When The Hollies released "Bus Stop" in 1966, the song quickly became one of their biggest hits. It topped the charts in Canada and Australia, while reaching No. 5 on both the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and the U.K. singles chart. The success also added to Gouldman's reputation as one of Britain's standout songwriters.

More than 30 years after Jerry Garcia first imagined it, one of the Grateful Dead icon's most ambitious creative projects is finally becoming reality.

Jerry Garcia Music Arts announced Monday, Aug. 3, that Eyes of the World: The Jerry Garcia Experience will launch in San Francisco in early 2027 before embarking on a nationwide tour. The 40,000-square-foot immersive exhibition will celebrate Garcia's music, artwork and lifelong creative vision through interactive multimedia installations inspired by ideas he began developing decades ago.

According to the announcement, Garcia began sketching the concept more than 30 years ago alongside author Ken Kesey and producer Cary Granat. Together, they envisioned an immersive experience celebrating "joy, freedom, and unconventional individualism." Although Garcia died before it could be completed, the project has now been revived by Granat, members of Garcia's family and a team of multimedia artists using his original creative blueprint.

"My father began creating this exhibit with Cary more than 30 years ago. It was his dream project," Garcia's youngest daughter Keelin Garcia said in a statement. "Bringing it to life as he imagined is a deeply meaningful experience. We are honored to work with the people he trusted creatively."

Named after one of Garcia's best-known songs, the exhibition will feature eight immersive rooms exploring different chapters of his life, from his early years in San Francisco and pioneering work in sound technology to his visual art, philosophy, humanitarian efforts and even his passion for scuba diving and ocean conservation. Visitors will also journey through a recreation of Golden Gate Park and the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood circa 1966 before ending the experience with live performances from carefully curated Jerry Garcia tribute bands.

San Francisco will host the inaugural exhibition before it travels to cities including Chicago, Nashville, New York and Los Angeles. Additional dates, ticket information and the San Francisco schedule are expected to be announced in the coming months. A portion of proceeds will support arts education, music initiatives and environmental conservation through the Jerry Garcia Foundation.

The announcement continues a busy stretch for Grateful Dead fans. Earlier this summer, organizers unveiled Forever Grateful at Golden Gate Park, another large-scale San Francisco exhibition featuring hundreds of artifacts, immersive installations and memorabilia celebrating the band's legacy.

Together, the two experiences offer fans new ways to explore Garcia's lasting influence on music, art and American culture.

Rosie O'Donnell is headed back to The View for season 30.

O'Donnell, 64, who famously appeared on the legendary chat show for single-season stints that ended in 2007 and 2015, appeared on Monday's episode of The Tangle podcast and shared that she will participate “in whatever way they want” her “just as a guest” for season 30 of the show.

“I will go on the 30th anniversary next [season],” O’Donnell shared on the podcast, according to a transcript provided to Entertainment Weekly, confirming that she was asked to return to the show in the past.

O'Donnell added that “They’re bringing back all the hosts, I think. And, you know, I’m pretty proud of that show, what it’s become and how it really speaks to the people and to politics.”

O’Donnell Had a Facelift

O’Donnell recently took to her Substack page to share a deeply personal essay about how she previously vowed never to have plastic surgery. However, she had a change of heart earlier this year when she decided to have a lower deep plane facelift.

“I used to feel very strongly about facelifts,” O’Donnell wrote on Substack. “Not casually — morally. I had assigned myself as head of all women who would never – ever. I thought it was a betrayal. Of feminism. Of aging. Of our team of women worldwide.  And then I lost 50 pounds.”

Feeling like gravity was getting the best of her after her dramatic weight loss, O’Donnell would look in the mirror and say, “This isn’t aging, this is melting with intention.” Her 13-year-old child, Clay, didn’t like the idea of plastic surgery, telling O’Donnell she “earned her wrinkles.” While she put off the procedure for months, she finally went under the knife in January.

In the last couple of years, O’Donnell has been open about her 50-pound weight loss as a result of using Mounjaro. She went into more detail in a March 2025 TikTok video, sharing why she had started taking the medication. She also noted that, in addition to starting the medication to deal with her health issues, she had been spending more time cooking for her child, Clay.

“I’ve lost more weight. I am on Mounjaro for my diabetes, and one of the side effects is you lose weight,” she explained. “But it’s also because I had a chef for over two years in Los Angeles and I don’t have a chef now. It’s me cooking for Clay and me.”

The Common Item That Could Be Negatively Impacting Your Bladder Health

PSA: If you wear tight underwear, it may be time to throw them out. Wearing them could be negatively impacting your bladder health without you even realizing it. “In women, very tight, non-breathable underwear can create a warm, moist environment that may contribute to skin irritation or changes in the balance of bacteria and yeast around the vulva,” says Dr. Anika Ackerman, MD, a urologist and health expert at LiviWell. 

Dr. Ackerman explains that when a warm, moist environment changes the balance of bacteria and yeast around the vulva, it can lead to urinary tract infections for women who are prone to them.

“While it doesn’t directly cause a UTI, irritation and changes in the local environment may make some women more susceptible, particularly if they already have recurrent infections. Anatomically, women are much more prone to UTIs because the urethra is much shorter, so this is far less of a concern for most men,” she tells Parade.

Believe it or not, there has been scientific research showing this to be true. A 2025 scientific review published in Medicina found that wearing close-fitting underwear can alter a woman’s bacterial makeup. 

Snug undergarments can also negatively impact the skin.

“Tight underwear increases friction, traps heat and moisture, and can lead to chafing, irritation and contact dermatitis. In people who exercise or sweat frequently, it may also contribute to fungal infections such as jock itch. If you notice persistent redness, itching or painful bumps, your underwear may be part of the problem,” Dr. Ackerman says.

Men aren’t off the hook when it comes to close-fitting underwear, either. Dr. Ackerman notes that when a man does this, it could temporarily increase scrotal temperature, which some studies suggest could affect sperm production. But before you freak out, she emphasizes that the overall effect on fertility is likely modest.

To be clear, your undergarments shouldn't be falling off of you—telltale signs that your underwear is too tight include red marks on your skin from it, or pinching, digging or restricted movement.

The Best Underwear for Urinary Health

Okay, so you’re throwing out all your tight underwear, right? What should you keep in mind when shopping for new ones? Dr. Ackerman recommends buying well-fitting underwear that is made from breathable, moisture-wicking fabrics. “Cotton is still one of the best choices because it’s breathable, absorbs moisture, and is less likely to trap heat,” she says. 

For working out or on hot days when you might be sweating a lot, Dr. Ackerman recommends underwear made with sweat-wicking performance fabric can be beneficial. Remember: The moisture from sweat can mess with your bacteria and yeast balance, which is something you definitely don’t want.

Other Common Mistakes People Make When It Comes To Urinary Health

Besides wearing snug underwear, there is another common mistake people make when it comes to urinary health. “One of the most common mistakes is staying in sweaty underwear after exercising or wearing wet swimsuits for long periods,” Dr. Ackerman says.

By now, you can probably guess why. Yep, it’s the moisture that’s the problem. “Moisture creates an environment where yeast and bacteria thrive,” she tells Parade.

Another common mistake is using heavily fragranced detergents or fabric softeners if you have sensitive skin. This, Dr. Ackerman explains, can lead to skin irritation that is so bothersome that it’s often mistaken for an infection. 

If you’re curious about whether you should wear underwear while you sleep, Dr. Ackerman notes there isn’t one hard and fast rule; it’s really a personal choice. However, if you are a woman who is prone to recurrent yeast infections or vulvar irritation, it can be beneficial to skip wearing underwear to bed to help improve airflow and reduce moisture overnight. “It’s not medically necessary for everyone, but it can be beneficial for those with recurring symptoms,” she says.

The bottom line (no pun intended) is that you should feel comfortable. Select a size that doesn’t feel constricting and be sure to shower or change out of your clothes after working out to avoid being exposed to moisture that can upset your bacterial makeup. These simple actions will go a long way in supporting your urinary health.

Think back to 2014. Liane Moriarty released the novel that would become one of the most talked-about books of the decade, Big Little Lies. However, there’s never been a sequel, despite a second season of the HBO series being adapted.

That is, until now! Big Little Truths arrives on Aug. 25, 2026, and it’s unsurprisingly one of the most highly anticipated releases of the month on Goodreads. It sits just behind The Unknown by Riley Sager and The Secrets We Hide by Karin Slaughter.

You will need to read the first book — whether for the first time or again — before you delve into Big Little Truths. This is a true sequel, picking up 10 years after the events of the first novel. The last we met Madeline, Celeste, Jane, Renata, and Bonnie, their children were just five, and now they’re teenagers trying to navigate the hell that is high school.

Gone are the struggles with playdates. Instead, the women need to navigate more complex issues, including dating, alcohol, and everything else teenagers get themselves into. What these women didn’t expect was to have to deal with a severed human finger mystery.

Yes, the parents are in uproar when the high school principal receives a severed human finger in the mail, but these five moms don’t have much time to figure out that particular mystery. They have their own problems to handle, including looking after their mothers-in-law, dealing with marriage problems, and simply trying to enjoy life. They may get pulled into the mystery, though, especially when a seemingly innocent man turns up asking questions.

For many, it will be a relief to see that we’re picking up with the story 10 years later. It’s been 12 years since the first book was released, so we’re growing up with the characters we’ve followed in the past. However, this novel isn’t just told from the viewpoint of the adults. The teenagers also get a little bit of a say, especially as it comes to the high school drama and mystery, adding a new layer to the story.

Big Little Truths already holds a strong score on Goodreads, sitting with a 4.43-star average. Most of the scores are four- and five-star reviews from advance readers, making it clear that this is a novel more than worth jumping straight into when it is published on Aug. 25, 2026.

From 1983 to 1984, Def Leppardwas on top of the world. They recently released their third studio album Pyromania, which had hits like "Rock of Ages" and "Foolin'" and were set to return to the studio for a 1985 disc that would blow listeners away.

"We only put out three singles from Pyromania because we thought, 'Why go further? You’re going to have a new album out in a couple of years,'" co-manager Cliff Burnstein told Billboard. "We probably left a lot on the table with that record."

Still, the band headed into recording in 1984 with Robert John "Mutt" Lange, and things seemed to be headed where they had hoped. However, being exhausted from previously producing The Cars, Lange passed on fully producing the album. Months in with another producer, they fired him because they felt it wasn't going in the correct direction, according to Louder. They were finally making headway with producer Nigel Green, and things seemed to be on track.

The Accident That Changed Everything for Def Leppard

Everything came to a screeching halt on December 31, 1984, when drummer Rick Allen was in a near-fatal car crash that would claim his left arm. Though doctors attempted to reattach it, it ultimately became infected and had to be removed.

"I lost control – I think the roads were a bit slippery, too – and, as the car rolled, the seat belt came undone and took my left arm," Allen told Forbes. "The arm stayed in the car, and I disappeared through the sunroof, banging my head really badly going out, and ended up probably 150 yards away in a field, literally just lying there. What saved my life is that I tensed up so I didn’t bleed out. I wasn’t unconscious. There was an off-duty cop and a nurse, who didn’t know each other at the time, who helped fix me up. About 45 minutes later, an ambulance arrived and took me to the hospital. It wasn’t until then that I actually bled out when they put me under with anesthetic."

The accident, by all accounts, should have killed him. But Allen took it as a sign that he had some sort of purpose to keep fulfilling. After getting an electric drum kit built, Allen relearned how to play using one arm. Lange hopped back on the project and rerecorded the Green-produced tracks, but ended up getting in a car crash mid-production as well.

The band paused the record and then hit the road in 1986, proving Allen could still play. They returned back to the studio and ended up penning some of their most iconic hits for the highly anticipated album. Allen reportedly named it Hysteria to encapsulate the intensity of the car crash and the media fallout that followed them post-accident.

Hysteria, which debuted on August 3, 1987, would go on to be certified 12x platinum by the RIAA and named the No. 25 biggest album ever on the Billboard 200 chart in 2015.

“It’s a flagstone as much as it’s a flagship," singer Joe Elliott once told Louder. "Every album since gets unfavourably compared to it, and it’s unfair. Of course, it’s a defining album in our career, and I’m very proud of it."

The album delivered six top 20-charting smashes, including “Hysteria” (No. 10), “Armageddon It” (No. 3), “Pour Some Sugar On Me” (No. 2), and “Love Bites” (No. 1). The record spent 78 weeks in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart — "the most weeks spent in the top 10 for an album by a rock band in the chart’s 61-year history," according to Billboard.

Influencer Jen Hamilton has a lot on her plate. But according to recent Instagram and TikTok posts, starring on The Bachelorette is not on her to-do list. 

The popular social media star/New York Times bestselling author recently made headlines after her 13-year marriage ended. Not one to hold back, the nursing influencer shared a video on Instagram last week, saying, “I’m done being people’s PR manager. My kids know, everybody in my orbit knows, so I’m just going to give you the nitty-gritty details so it can give you enough information to be like, ‘Okay, I get it’...All you need to know is this person had a double life.” 

Of course, “this person” refers to her soon-to-be ex-husband Brian. The pair announced their split on June 15, and now it looks like everybody wants Jen to become the next Bachelorette. At least, fellow TikTok celeb/nurse Laurisa Huber. 

When Huber recently commented, “@BachelorNation @Jen Hamilton as the next bachelorette,” Hamilton shut down the idea in a completely hilarious way.

The newly single mom of two shared a cute clip on both Instagram and TikTok with the caption, “Huber, why I’ll never be the bachelorette.”

Hamilton starts the video off by saying, “They do not want me, and this is why.”

She continues with a fictitious intro: “Don’t miss the most dramatic season of The Bachelorette ever. Featuring Jen Hamilton, who we did not vet but got lots of comments about.”

Hamilton then puts herself into a series of silly situations, saying things like, “My name is Jen, what do you like to do for fun? Run?...That’s what you can do. That way. Thank you for coming.”

She also poked fun at herself, adding, “A beach day. Uh, I don’t. Did y’all look at, did y’all research me first?”, and then moves on to the iconic rose ceremony: “Back there on that date, when you said that your favorite Taco Bell was a Crunch Wrap Supreme combo with a Doritos Locos Taco, will you accept this rose?”

The faux casting clip keeps going, with Hamilton turning her back to the camera and pointing to her bottom, “I’m built different than the ones, my predecessors. It’s like this, but there’s no drawers that cover it all. You know, so I just don’t want y’all to get in trouble.”

But it doesn’t end there. She adds in a few digs about having more children: “You want kids, that is great. For you. I love that journey for you. This is a picture with my old IUD, which I just got replaced. I would marry Mirena right now.”

And then there’s the infamous “fantasy suite” from the reality dating series. Hamilton addresses that, snarking, “My fantasy is eating chicken tikka masala in a bed while watching shows about really awful murder crime. That sound good?”

Even though Jen doesn’t see herself as the next Bachelorette, it seems like her TikTok fans do. 

“Would be the first and only season I’d watch,” said one commenter. 

Others added, “Now I would actually watch this Bachelorette. In 1978, Kristy McNichol had already captured the hearts of millions across America as the star of the television series Family and films like The End.

But few TV moments were as sweet as the time she completely won over Hollywood’s biggest leading man, Burt Reynolds. She left the actor beaming after delivering a surprise, heart-melting live performance that remains a television time-capsule moment.

McNichol and Reynolds appeared on a 1978 episode of The Mike Douglas Show to promote the feature film, The End. She played Julie Lawson, the teenage daughter of Burt Reynolds' character, Wendell "Sonny" Lawson, in the dark comedy.

In the film, after receiving a terminal diagnosis, Sonny shared goodbyes to his loved ones without explicitly telling them he was sick. A heartfelt scene where he bids farewell to his daughter was one of the film's standout moments.

In the clip, Reynolds called McNichol his "favorite actress." She nodded when Douglas asked if she liked him, later asking, "Doesn't he look like a G.I. Joe? I have tried to convince everyone he does with his beard."

When asked by Douglas if he would like to have a daughter like McNichol, Reynolds said, "I'd love to have a daughter like Kristy. She's so special to everybody."

Reynolds added, "When we were shooting, we had a scene with a lot of young girls Kristy's age and younger. She spent so much time with them, talking with them about Family and spending time together."

Then Reynolds introduced Douglas to a single by McNichol and her brother Jimmy McNichol, a cover of The Chiffons' classic "He's So Fine" backed with the song "He's a Dancer." The duo released a self-titled LP in 1978.

On the daytime talk show, McNichol performed the song specifically for Reynolds. It was the first time she sang it on television.

Kristy and Jimmy McNichol’s recording career was short-lived, yielding just a single self-titled album under RCA Records in 1978. Packed with disco beats and nostalgic covers like "My Boyfriend's Back," the LP solidified their status as late-’70s teen royalty, even though neither sibling pursued a full-time path in the music industry thereafter.

As an actress, McNichol built a standout career with acclaimed films like Little Darlings, The Pirate Movie, and Only When I Laugh, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination. Scott Pelley and Sharyn Alfonsi just landed their first roles after being fired from 60 Minutes.

Pelley, 68, and Alfonsi, 54, have been appointed Journalists in Residence for the 2026–27 academic year at Columbia Journalism School, the venerable university shared in a statement. In their roles, the duo will work closely with students through lectures, workshops, and special events, helping them to "sharpen their reporting, investigative and sourcing skills."

Why Was Scott Pelley Fired From 60 Minutes?

Pelley was fired from the legendary CBS news magazine after butting heads with the show’s new executive producer, Nick Bilton. The incident went down publicly in a staff meeting, only exacerbating the existing conflict between CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss and the longtime staff of the iconic program. During the meeting, which was captured on audio, Pelley accused Weiss of “murdering” 60 Minutes.

In a letter to Pelley, which was obtained by a variety of news sources, Bilton informed Pelley of his termination.

“Your antipathy to the future of the show has come through loud and clear,” Bilton said in the letter. “And I have heard you. I therefore write on behalf of CBS News to inform you that your employment with CBS is terminated effective immediately.”

In a separate note to 60 Minutes employees, Bilton made it clear that the network and Pelley had “parted ways.”

“I know how much Scott meant to many of you, and I don’t say this lightly,” Bilton wrote in the letter, NBC News shared. “I made repeated attempts to have direct conversations with him over the weekend, and this afternoon I tried to find common ground. That was not the path Scott chose.”

CBS News previously announced it was ousting former executive producer Tanya Simon, executive editor Draggan Mihailovich, Alfonsi, and Cecilia Vega, Variety reported.

Anderson Cooper, who has contributed to the show for nearly 20 years, announced he would be leaving the program in February, Parade previously shared.

“The thing is, it’s never felt like work. It’s felt like you’re stepping into people’s lives, and you’re invited into people's homes,” Cooper reflected. “You’re invited into their struggles, you’re invited into whatever it is that has brought them to be on 60 Minutes.”
