Patsy Cline made her mark on the music scene singing about unrequited love with heartbreaking hits like “Crazy” and “She’s Got You,” but it was “I Fall to Pieces” that served as her breakthrough hit, becoming her first song to reach No. 1 on Billboard’s country chart, now known as the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. 

Released in 1961 and appearing on Cline’s second studio album, Showcase, “I Fall to Pieces” features a 4/4 shuffle beat and finds the singer pouring all of her emotions into the lyrics as she captures the heartbreak of desperately trying, but failing, to move on from a relationship.

Songwriting legends Hank Cochran and Harlan Howard co-wrote the classic country ballad with production credits going to Owen Bradley. And while the song has become one of Cline’s signature hits, she wasn’t the first artist chosen for the track. “I Fall to Pieces” was initially pitched to Brenda Lee, who, according to American Songwriter, turned it down believing it was “too country” for her pop style of music. 

Country singer Roy Drusky also rejected the tune because he thought it was too feminine for a man to sing on it. Luckily, Cline was able to record the tune, but not without a few reservations. 

Session singers the Jordanaires, who were famous for singing harmony on Elvis Presley’s recordings, were planned to deliver background vocals on “I Fall to Pieces” — something Cline was worried about as she thought their voices would drown hers out. She also felt the pop-leanings of the tune didn’t fit her style. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case as the final recording proved her fears unfounded.

Initially, the tune was ignored by pop and country radio stations, experiencing a slow build. It wasn’t until a pop station in Columbus, Ohio began playing the song that it started gaining traction. “I Fall to Pieces” debuted on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in April 1961 and reached No. 1 in August of 1961, two months after Cline was seriously injured in a June car accident that killed two people in the other vehicle and left her hospitalized for more than a month.

“I Fall To Pieces”  was a crossover success as well, reaching No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song has ranked No. 238 on Rolling Stone’s list of “500 Greatest Songs of All Time,” No. 40 on the outlet’s “40 Saddest Songs of All Time,” and No. 72 on its 2024 list of “200 Greatest Country Songs of All Time.”

Bonnie Tyler’s legions of fans lined the streets of Wales to honor the music legend as her coffin returned home.

Tyler, a beloved Welsh singer known for her husky voice, died at the age of 75 on July 8 in a hospital in Portugal. But in the Welsh community of Mumbles, devoted fans stood and paid their respects to the “Total Eclipse of the Heart” singer as her coffin was transported to her  former home in Fernhill ahead of a “celebration of life,” Hello! reported.

Tyler’s Family Announced Her Death

Early on Thursday, July 9, Tyler’s social media account announced the death of the “Holding Out For a Hero” singer.

“Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for,” the statement shared. “We will issue a further statement shortly but for now ask for privacy to deal with this tragedy.”

In early May, a representative for the singer told Entertainment Weekly that Tyler was in an induced coma.

“Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her Doctors to aid her recovery. We know that you all wish her well and ask for privacy at this difficult time please,” manager Matt Davis told EW. “We will issue a further statement when we are able to.”

That announcement followed their statement that the singer had undergone emergency surgery in Portugal and was recovering.

“We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery,” said a statement published to her website. “The surgery went well and she is now recuperating.”

The statement continued, “We know that all of her family, friends, and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery.”

Additional reports shared that Tyler had gone into cardiac arrest after her doctors attempted to bring her out of the precautionary coma.

In June, a representative for Tyler told The Sun that the singer had woken up from her coma, “but remains seriously ill.”

Nick Reiner‘s access to his family trust fund has been blocked as he awaits trial in connection with the deaths of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.

According to an exclusive report from People, the trustees overseeing Reiner’s trust have opposed his request to receive money from the fund, citing California’s so-called “slayer statute.” Reiner, 32, had petitioned the court for access to what he says is more than $1.5 million in the trust, including money he says was supposed to be distributed to him when he turned 30.

Reiner wanted the funds to help cover legal expenses and commissary costs, including basic necessities while he remains behind bars. The trustees are arguing that no distribution should be made until the court determines whether California’s slayer statute applies. The law generally prevents someone from inheriting money or property from a person they have “feloniously and intentionally” killed.

Reiner has been accused of killing his parents, who established the trust in his name in 1993. He has pleaded not guilty and has not been convicted of the killings. His attorney, Anita P. Wu, pushed back on the trustees’ position, telling The New York Times, “The slayer statute requires a determination, not a mere accusation. Nick is presumed innocent and has been convicted of nothing.”

If the statute ultimately applies, the trust’s assets could instead pass to Reiner’s siblings, Jake and Romy, according to court filings.

Reiner was recently indicted on two counts of first-degree murder in connection with his parents’ December 2025 deaths. The new indictment also includes an alleged special circumstance of lying in wait, as well as an allegation involving the use of a knife.

For now, the dispute over the trust fund is another legal battle unfolding alongside the criminal case. Reiner is scheduled to return to court for a pretrial hearing on Sept. 15.

Over the weekend, Marvel announced the cast for the upcoming X-Men film, set to release in theaters on May 5, 2028. The lineup includes Sadie Sink (Stranger Things), who starred in Spider-Man: Brand New Day as Jean Grey, along with top actors and newcomers like Samara Weaving (Ready or Not 2: Here I Come), Adam Driver (Star Wars sequel), Kit Connor (Heartstopper), Maya Boyd (rising Broadway star) and Christopher Abbott (Wolf Man). But another casting announcement has X-Men fans super excited. Inde Navarrette will be portraying Rogue in the upcoming film! 

It was announced that the Obsession actress will be starring in the film earlier today at Disney’s D23 event in Anaheim, California. And Fans couldn’t be happier. Just two weeks ago, the actress was rumored to play Mystique in the film, stating that she “wants to play Mystique” after meeting with X-Men director Jake Schreier. 

Navarrette blew up this year after starring in Curry Barker’s horror film, Obsession, where she gave an outstanding performance that earned her the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Actress in a Horror Movie. Since the film’s release, fans have been praising Navarrette’s performance, hoping the scream queen will star in another horror movie.

While many fans are expressing their excitement on social media, others are worried about the actress’s pipeline from small indie projects to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Navarrette has previously starred in 13 Reasons Why and Superman & Lois.

Despite critics, fans are overwhelmingly in support of Marvel’s casting of Navarrette. Rogue is a mutant with the ability to absorb the powers, memories and life energy of anyone she touches. After filming Obsession in October 2024, the actress took odd jobs like dog walking and streaming to make money. The movie was filmed on a $750,000 budget and Navarrette was paid $20,000 for her role as Nikki. Her casting as Rogue comes as a full-circle moment for the Marvel fan and newcomer in the industry.

Not every British Invasion hit relied on driving guitars or rebellious attitude to capture listeners’ attention.

When Herman’s Hermits released “Mrs. Brown You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter” in 1965, the band’s playful charm and unmistakably British character set it apart from many of its contemporaries. The single featured frontman Peter Noone, who was just 17 years old, and quickly became one of the group’s defining recordings.

The song had an unusual history before becoming a hit.

Written by Trevor Peacock, “Mrs. Brown You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter” was originally intended as a novelty tune and had already been recorded by actor Tom Courtenay before Herman’s Hermits put their own spin on it. The band initially didn’t view the recording as an obvious single, but its conversational lyrics, Cockney phrasing, and Noone’s warm vocal gave it a personality that audiences couldn’t resist.

“I decided very early on when Herman’s Hermits came over to America that I was going to be that English singer who could do Buddy Holly, and that I would sing songs like George Formby did, in my own accent,” Noone told UK Music Reviews. “So we would play songs like ‘Mrs Brown You’ve Got A Lovely Daughter’ and ‘I’m Henry the Eighth I Am’ with an English accent.  The funny thing was that we were involved in The British Invasion but we were the only ones with a British accent. The Rolling Stones only ever used a British accent when they were giving interviews.”

Noone’s instincts were right on the money, as listeners embraced “Mrs Brown You’ve Got A Lovely Daughter” almost immediately.

Released in the United States during the height of the British Invasion, the song raced to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it spent three consecutive weeks at the top. It became Herman’s Hermits’ second U.S. chart-topper, reinforcing the group’s status as one of Britain’s biggest musical exports during the mid-1960s.

“It was a song we had done at The Cavern in Liverpool early days, and we loved the song and the presentation,” Noone said in a 2016 interview. “It was also a huge hit in the UK. When I sing it on stage everyone in the audience sings along, as it was on a British EP–which was 4 songs for the price of two songs–and was Herman’s Hermits’ biggest selling EP, and the song was massive everywhere, because it is fun and British and is a great bit of music!”

The success also highlighted Noone’s remarkable poise as a teenage frontman.

Despite being only 17 years old, he delivered the song with an effortless confidence that helped make its gentle humor and heartfelt lyrics feel completely genuine. His charismatic performance became one of the defining elements of Herman’s Hermits’ appeal and helped distinguish the band from many of its British Invasion peers.

“The dream was if you got on the radio, you would be on there with Frankie Valli and Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry—all the people that we idolized,” Noone told Best Classic Bands. “So you’d get on the radio and there you were within the same room as all those people. It was my visualization of what the music business was. I was probably only about 15, but I realized that you didn’t need to buy a record to like it. You could buy the ones that you really liked, but you would know all the other ones as well. I knew all the words to Cliff Richard’s songs, even though I never bought one. I liked them, but I didn’t buy them. Radio gave you an opportunity to listen to songs hundreds of times without buying them.”

Due in part to its radio presence, the song’s legacy has endured well beyond its chart run.

“Mrs. Brown You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter” has remained a staple of oldies radio and has been featured in films, television shows, and stage productions over the years. Its distinctive melody and unmistakable storytelling continue to introduce new listeners to one of the most memorable hits of the 1960s.

Sixty-one years after its release, “Mrs. Brown You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter” still charms audiences with its wit, warmth, and unmistakable British personality. Featuring a 17 year-old Peter Noone at the microphone, the 1965 classic remains one of Herman’s Hermits’ most enduring and beloved recordings.

John Fogerty is known as one of the most prolific singer-songwriters in music, but few songs are as closely associated with him as “Proud Mary.” The Creedence Clearwater Revival classic was first written and recorded in 1968 and released in 1969 on CCR’s second studio album, Bayou Country. With the recent casting announced, fans were asking one question: Where is Mystique? So, when will Mystique’s casting be announced? With the casting announcements for several major X-Men characters, fans are hoping to hear more news from Marvel soon. Previously, Jennifer Lawrence and Rebecca Romijn portrayed Mystique. 

Nicole Kidman is coming clean about her secret hobby.

The 59-year-old actress isn’t too old for nightlife. She revealed how she goes incognito before dancing in the Ibiza clubs.

She shared her secret to British Vogue in a cover story published Thursday, Aug. 13.

Kidman has enjoyed this past summer traveling in Europe, with a large part of it at the flat she’s had in London for over 20 years.

“I’m stealth. I’m good at slipping in and slipping out of everywhere,” she said, listing the cities she’s visited in the past weeks. “London, Ibiza, Paris, Portofino… a Euro summer.”

The Moulin Rouge! actress was not shy when asked about her time in Ibiza: “It’s a small dinner party or it’s a rave.”

“I’m either playing Scrabble or I’m out. It’s that simple,” she said. “Dinner at 10.30pm, club at 1am. I’ll put on glasses. Sometimes I’ll wear a wig to hide, a little dark wig, and then I can just dance. As long as I’m surrounded by people — like, I take people with me — then I’m fine. I need it.”

The Academy Award winner told British Vogue about her upbringing in Sydney. She shared that clubs have long been a special space for her.

“I’ve said it before but I used to go to trans clubs,” she recalled. “That’s where I learnt to do my hair and make-up. I would sit down as a little freckled-faced red-headed girl and they would make me beautiful.”

“They would do my lashes and straighten my hair and put hairpieces on me and make-up,” she continued. “I would walk out of there and I would feel pretty. I would feel like I was transformed.”

Regardless, you might have come across the book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, written by Stephen Covey, an educator, author and businessman. Published in 1989, it entails exactly what the headline suggests: habits that make someone effective, aka, help them get results without sacrificing their needs or relationships. As a global bestseller, it’s obviously pretty popular.

But since it was written decades ago—before so many political changes, technological advances and more occurred—does it hold up today? Is The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People still relevant? Parade asked three psychologists to weigh in, sharing their general takes, what they think Covey got right and wrong, changes they would make and answers to other questions you might have. Let’s dive into their 7 Habits of Highly Effective People psychological analysis.

Do Psychologists Think the ‘7 Habits’ Stand the Test of Time?

Psychologists think the psychology of Stephen Covey’s habits does apply to today’s world—with some nuance.

“While I believe the principles do still hold up, the psychology underneath how we apply them has become much more sophisticated in the years since it was written,” says Lisa Thomson, a registered psychologist and the owner of Core Psychology in Calgary, Canada.

It’s a relevant philosophy for living and leading, she continues, but relies on dated characteristics (which she’ll describe later).

“I do think they stand the test of time for the most part,” agrees Dr. Amy Vigliotti, PhD, a licensed psychologist and founder at SelfWorks. She points to suggestions such as taking responsibility, setting goals, listening, self-reflecting and having healthy habits.

Dr. Scott Glassman, PsyD, a licensed psychologist and the director of the Master of Applied Positive Psychology at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, finds that we’re still in the goal-oriented, outcomes-driven society aligning with the book’s premise. However, he believes we need to get more holistic.

“I would say that we need a more dimensional view of success, well-being and happiness than what 7 Habits offers, a view that takes into account the ever-increasing challenges of isolating technology, environmental degradation, socioeconomic stressors, political and cultural divides, identity complexity and the impacts of individual and collective trauma,” he explains. 

What Are the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People?

The aforementioned seven habits include:

• Be proactive: Focus on what you can control and take responsibility for your life.
• Begin with the end in mind: Be clear on your goals and values.
• Put first things first: Realize not everything is urgent, and prioritize.
• Think win-win: Seek outcomes that respect everyone’s interests, and collaborate.
• Seek first to understand, then to be understood: Listen with genuine curiosity and lead with empathy.
• Synergize: Value differences; utilize people’s various strengths and perspectives.
• Sharpen the saw: Invest in your well-being, practice self-care and rest to keep your work sustainable.

The Psychological Verdict: Where Stephen Covey Got It Right

What specific habits do today’s psychologists agree with? 

Move ‘private victory’ to ‘public victory’

Output isn’t the only thing that matters—effectiveness is relational.

“Effectiveness is also about character, self-awareness, relationships and living consistently with what matters to you,” Thomson says. “How we lead, communicate and relate to others is influenced by how well we understand and manage ourselves.”

“Listening, kindness, teamwork: All these things are so important for success,” Dr. Vigliotti adds.

Agency and listening are important

Respect people’s autonomy and interests.

“People often know what they should do,” Thomson says. “The challenge is acting on it consistently when they are stressed, afraid, overwhelmed or caught in familiar patterns.”

Success requires self-care

Self-care is necessary to success, and Covey knew it.

“‘Sharpen the saw’ was a very early way of naming that rest, health, reflection and renewal are part of long-term performance, rather than distractions from it,” Thomson states.

Dr. Glassman appreciates this, too, asking people to “know their internal ‘temperatures’ in a world that often seeks to keep us outwardly focused.”

Live by your values

Dr. Vigliotti agrees with Covey that it’s important to live life according to your values, which could include lifelong learning, connectivity, vulnerability, appreciation and self-improvement.

“All these things are very, very much supported by psychological research,” she shares.

Dr. Glassman adds that values can lead to course corrections and greater fulfillment.

Be proactive and accountable 

This is especially valuable for people who feel helpless or stuck in passive patterns. 

“Cognitive-behavioral approaches ask us to look at habitual ways we’ve learned to think about ourselves and evaluate our abilities, and adjust our perspective when those thoughts and beliefs hold us back,” Dr. Glassman tells Parade. “The evidence base in psychology has consistently demonstrated a perceptual component to happiness and empowerment that Covey taps into.”

Where the 1989 Framework Falls Short in Today’s World

Let’s dive into some Stephen Covey “7 Habits” critiques. 

Behavioral change isn’t that straightforward

This is the “biggest limitation,” according to Thomson. It suggests if people clarify their values, make good decisions and practice discipline, they’ll follow through—which isn’t always true. 

“Modern psychology tells us that behavior is also shaped by nervous system responses, automatic habits, mental health, neurodiversity, relationships, culture and environment,” she explains.

There’s too much focus on individualism 

While 7 Habits is relational in some ways, it’s individualistic in others.

“[The book] says a lot about how the individual should function, but less about what happens when someone is working within an unhealthy family, workplace or social system,” Thomson notes.

Emotional regulation also plays a role

Thomson would place greater emphasis on acknowledging and regulating emotions.

“Being proactive does not mean overriding fear, grief, anger or anxiety,” she says. “We need to be able to understand and tolerate our internal experiences, not simply rise above them.”

It doesn’t speak to digital media

Written in the late ’80s, there’s little talk of smartphones and social media.

“I think newer research is focusing and showing that our environment, even our digital environment, stress, mental health and relationships all affect our behavior, and there’s less talk about that in the book,” Dr. Vigliotti states.

The prescriptions are too mechanistic and monolithic

Dr. Glassman thinks Covey limits the range of what’s holistically fulfilling and meaningful.

“He over-emphasizes outcomes, ‘win-win’ versus process, sidestepping our emotional lives and the wisdom that can be found in painful experiences,” he explains. “You get the sense his framework might be more helpful for a business professional who needs some assistance in goal-oriented pursuits versus someone with anxiety and depression who yearns to find greater balance, happiness and internal peace.”

How Modern Psychologists Recommend Updating the 7 Habits

Psychologists today would make some adjustments to the seven habits. 

“If I were to update the seven habits, I might provide more practical and psychologically informed ways to apply them,” Thomson tells Parade. 

Here are psychologist-backed examples:

• Combine Covey’s emphasis on values with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help people move towards what means most to them.
• Merge the habits with positive psychology, such as gratitude, mindfulness, savoring, kindness, self-compassion, acceptance, openness and positive self-regard.
• Bring in “small habits” that can become routine.
• Add psychological safety to relational habits; create an environment where there’s listening, collaboration and support.
• Expand “sharpen the saw” to include emotional recovery, boundaries, self-compassion and rest.

Are the 7 Habits based on real psychological science?

Not in an “evidence-based treatment” way. 

“His framework grew more from philosophy, character ethics, leadership principles and applied wisdom rather than from controlled psychological research,” Thomson explains.

That doesn’t mean it’s invalid, however.

“While the seven habits aren’t based on psychological science and the book is not a scientific model, many of its ideas match what psychologists find,” Dr. Vigliotti says.

Plus, certain aspects have theoretical and empirical support, Dr. Glassman clarifies, such as self-efficacy, collaboration, empathy, self-care and a values-based approach. 

“For example, Deci and Ryan’s self-determination theory highlights the role of values-consistent action and intrinsic motivation,” he says. “Many studies offer support for the connection between self-efficacy and well-being.”

What is the main critique of Stephen Covey’s ‘7 Habits’?

Interestingly, each psychologist has a different #1 critique.

“My main critique is that it tells people what effective functioning looks like, but it does not always explain how to get there when human psychology gets in the way,” Thomson says.

In other words, how can someone apply these habits when they’re traumatized, emotionally overstimulated or neurodivergent?

For Dr. Vigliotti, the main critique is relevancy.

“There’s less talk about how our environment, even our digital environment, stress, mental health and relationships affect our behavior, and that’s something newer research is focusing on and showing more of,” she shares.

Dr. Glassman emphasizes the lack of holism.

“It’s the outcome-focused, individual-centric framework Covey uses that limits the benefits from a holistic wellness perspective,” he notes.

Which of the habits is most important today?

According to Thomson and Dr. Vigliotti, the most important habit today is “Seek first to understand, then to be understood”—especially in a culture that rewards speed, certainty and strong reactions. 

“One thing I find myself reminding clients of all the time is that understanding someone doesn’t require agreement,” Thomson says. “It means becoming curious enough to understand the context, emotions and experiences shaping another person’s perspective.” She’s found this can lower defensiveness, build trust and make people more willing to listen in return.

Dr. Vigliotti adds it’s even more important after COVID and the social anxiety it caused. She says focusing on this habit “is going to lead to so much goodness,” such as stronger relationships, reduced conflict and improved teamwork.

“Listening is really the foundation of how strong relationships are built,” she continues. “Taking the time to slow down and really seeking understanding is going to make a world of difference.”

Dr. Glassman points to a different habit: beginning with the end in mind, or values and mission clarity.

“Having this clarity can exert a positive gravitational force on daily habits and behavior, which in turn can lead to a stronger sense of meaning, purpose and alignment… This, in turn, contributes to more individual happiness as well as the greater well-being of our families and communities.”

While Covey’s habits don’t perfectly align with what today’s psychologists would suggest, many of the habits do hold. Not only can they make you “highly effective,” but they can bring happiness and purpose to your life, too.

In a real-life Exorcist moment, Cindy Crawford’s daughter Kaia Gerber revealed she was “possessed” as a child. Yes, that kind of possession. The one you’ve seen in horror films and on TV. 

Before heading to the set to film American Horror Story season 10, her iconic supermodel mother did something…well, out of the ordinary. Instead of giving her a few acting tips, packing her a snack, or slipping her a lucky charm, she gifted Kaia with something totally unexpected. 

During a recent appearance on ‘The Mitch Churi Chat Show,’ Gerber told the host a wild story: “Do you know how they did the exorcism? My mom gave me holy water to go to set with because she was like, ‘I don’t want you to get possessed.” I was told I was possessed as a child.”

Whoa. Possessed? Yes, according to Kaia, “I just was possessed. I was haunted my whole life.”

Of course, fans have to know more about Cindy Crawford’s daughter’s alleged childhood demonic possession. 

When Australian podcast host comedian Mitch Churi asked, “Did you have an exorcism?” Gerber replied, “I actually did…Oh wait, this is actually perfect for you. Do you know how they did the exorcism? They played a didgeridoo all over me. That’s how they did the exorcism.”

She continued, “That actually did happen, and I’ve never talked about it, but that actually did happen.”

Whether Kaia was or wasn’t possessed, it looks like things turned out well for Crawford’s look-alike daughter. The brunette beauty started modeling when she was just 10-years-old, starring in a campaign for Young Versace. By the age of 13, she had signed with IMG Models and made her New York Fashion Week runway debut at 16. 

In 2021, she hit the small screen in American Horror Story. Gerber (whose father is Crawford’s husband, entrepreneur Rande Gerber) also appeared in Apple TV’s Palm Royale, HBO’s Hacks, and Amazon Prime Video’s Overcompensating. What do fans think about Kaia’s comments on her demonic past? When Churi shared the clip of their interview on his Instagram page, his followers didn’t seem to take the claims too seriously. “I love when celebs drop crazy lore as a funny, silly thing,” said one commenter, while another led with a simple (but apt), “Whattt.”

Cindy Crawford has never spoken publicly about her daughter’s supposed possession and exorcism. She also has not commented on Kaia’s latest podcast share.

The actress appeared on the red carpet at the 2026 D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event to promote her upcoming animated film, Hexed.

If you spend any amount of time on #FoodTok, there’s a very good chance you know Chef Tini Younger. The professionally trained chef and content creator first started gaining a following with her cooking videos before competing on Season 2 of Gordon Ramsay’s Next Level Chef in 2023. But it was her now-famous mac and cheese that really sent her into another stratosphere. The recipe went massively viral and, today, Tini has built an enormous social media following of home cooks who turn to her for approachable recipes that actually deliver.

And I totally get it. You can follow Tini on TikTok and Instagram, but I particularly love her recipes because she’s not just a great content creator, she’s a really great chef. Her recipes are thoughtful, well-seasoned and, in my experience, consistently hit. I previously tried her buffalo chicken dip for Parade, and it was unbelievably delicious. I love seeing genuinely talented food people find huge success on social media, and Chef Tini is the real deal.

I recently saw a viral macaroni salad recipe of hers all over my feed, so obviously, I needed to try it. Pasta salad is a summer staple at my house, especially when burgers and hot dogs are on the grill—a good creamy macaroni salad is one of those classic sides that works with almost anything. Tini’s version has all of the familiar elements you want, but she adds a few smart and different ingredients that make it much more interesting than your standard deli-counter macaroni salad. Let’s dig in!

The Secret Sauce: Chef Tini’s Dressing Ingredients

The dressing is where Tini really packs in the flavor. She combines 1 cup mayonnaise with 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard, 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar and 1 teaspoon smoked paprika.

Then, she seasons the mixture with garlic powder, Old Bay seasoning, salt and pepper to taste. Finely chopped bread-and-butter pickle chips also go right into the dressing, adding little pops of sweetness and acidity throughout the salad.

Tini doesn’t give exact measurements for the garlic powder, Old Bay, salt or pepper, so start small, taste and adjust until it’s seasoned the way you like it.

If you don’t have red wine vinegar, Tini says white vinegar or apple cider vinegar will work too.

The Crunch Factor: Prepping the Veggies

One thing I immediately liked about this viral macaroni salad is that Tini doesn’t skimp on the vegetables. While the pasta cooks, finely dice one celery stalk, one red bell pepper and one red onion, then add them to a large mixing bowl with 1 cup shredded carrots.

You want everything chopped fairly small so you get a little bit of crunch and flavor in every forkful rather than huge pieces of vegetables competing with the macaroni. Between the celery, pepper, onion, carrots and chopped pickles, there’s plenty of texture to balance out that creamy dressing.

Ingredients Needed

To make Chef Tini’s macaroni salad recipe, you’ll need 1 pound elbow macaroni, 1 stalk celery, 1 red bell pepper, 1 red onion, 1 cup shredded carrots and 2 tablespoons finely chopped bread-and-butter pickle chips.

For the dressing, you’ll need 1 cup mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard, 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar, 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, plus garlic powder, Old Bay seasoning, salt and pepper to taste.

It’s a pretty straightforward grocery list, I ended up having all of the ingredients to make this between my refrigerator and pantry…we love to save a trip to the store!

How To Make Chef Tini’s Viral Macaroni Salad

Start by bringing a large pot of water to a boil and cooking 1 pound of elbow macaroni for about seven minutes, or until tender.

Drain the pasta and allow it to cool slightly. While the macaroni cooks, dice the celery, red bell pepper and red onion and add them to a large bowl with the shredded carrots.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the chopped bread-and-butter pickles, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, red wine vinegar and smoked paprika, then season with garlic powder, Old Bay, salt and pepper to taste.

Once the dressing is smooth and creamy, add the cooked macaroni to the bowl of vegetables, pour the dressing over everything and gently fold until the pasta and veggies are evenly coated.

Cover the bowl and refrigerate the macaroni salad for at least one hour before serving.

The Golden Rule: Why You MUST Make It Ahead of Time

Don’t skip the chilling time! Tini recommends refrigerating the macaroni salad for at least an hour before serving, and it really does make a difference. That time in the refrigerator allows the pasta to cool completely and gives all of those flavors, from the Dijon and red wine vinegar to the Old Bay and smoked paprika, a chance to come together.

It’s also what makes this such a great make-ahead BBQ side. You can assemble the whole thing before your guests arrive and pull it out of the refrigerator when you’re ready to eat. In fact, I thought it was even better the next day. Just give it a good stir before serving to redistribute the dressing and make sure everything is creamy and well coated.

Recipe Review: My Honest Thoughts

This was a really solid macaroni salad recipe. It had everything I want in a great pasta salad: crisp, well-chopped vegetables, plenty of texture and a creamy dressing with enough flavor to keep things interesting.

I especially loved the red bell pepper. I think red pepper belongs in a good pasta salad and elbows are such a great pasta shape for this style of recipe. They’re classic for a reason and give you the perfect pasta-to-veggie-to-dressing ratio in every bite.

The dressing was probably my favorite part. The Old Bay seasoning is such a unique addition, and I loved that Tini used smoked paprika instead of regular paprika. It gives the whole salad a subtle smoky punch that works especially well when you’re serving it alongside food straight from the grill.

The Dijon mustard is also necessary here; it adds tang and depth and keeps the mayonnaise-based dressing from tasting flat or overly rich. And those little pieces of sweet bread-and-butter pickles add just the right amount of sweetness.

If I were to make it again, I might add another few scoops of mayo (I’m an extra creamy salad kinda gal!) and maybe a few more pickles. They were such a fun addition.

We originally ate this as a side with dinner, but the next day I added a can of tuna to the leftovers for lunch, and it was SO good. It instantly turned the macaroni salad from a summer side dish into a really satisfying main. That’s absolutely how I’ll be eating the leftovers from now on.

Chef Tini does it again! This macaroni salad is creamy, crunchy, packed with flavor and officially earned a spot in my summer side dish rotation. If you’re headed to a barbecue or just need something delicious to serve with dinner, this is one viral recipe that’s absolutely worth trying.

Akin to retro thrillers like Cloverfield, Super 8, Jurassic Park, and even Edgar Wright’s Three Flavors Cornetto trilogy, Mitchell’s film has Warner Bros. and big-time producer J.J. Abrams behind it. Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor star, alongside Maisy Stella and Christian Convery. Together, they make up the Platts, the family at the center of the action going down in their Michigan neighborhood against a totally primitive backdrop.

“I’m just calling back that feeling I had as a kid, where I could be in the yard looking over to the dead-end street nearby, looking down into the woods,” Mitchell told the AU Review of his inspiration for his retro film. “There was this old brick or rock wall, and it was just imagining what’s in the shadows, you know? What’s beyond the chain-link fence? As a kid, just thinking about the films that I had seen, the stories I’d read, and imagining those things in my own suburban world, and then as an adult trying to remember that feeling. I do think it’s a little bit burned into my brain, that feeling.”

As the movie is set in the early ’80s, the film’s soundtrack appropriately echoes the sounds of the time, with needle drops from Pat Benatar’s “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” The Cars’ “Shake It Up,” Steve Winwood’s “Valerie,” Roxy Music’s “More Than This,” and Jefferson Starship’s “Find Your Way Back” all setting the mood. The film’s official trailer also features a cut of Elton John’s “My Life.” 

Meanwhile, Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino, whose credits include Star Trek and Super 8, both Abrams’ productions, as well as Ratatouille, Up, The Batman, and numerous Marvel films, created an original score that channels the spirit of John Williams, adding an extra layer of retro blockbuster magic.

“David has a remarkable ability to build dread in a way that feels effortless, balancing quiet tension with moments that genuinely get under your skin,” Giacchino said via The Associated Press. “It’s a rare combination, and I’m grateful to have been a part of this one.”

No stranger to a high-concept film, Mitchell won over critics in 2010 with his directorial feature debut, a “somber and sweet” portrait of adolescence called The Myth of the American Sleepover. Made on a shoestring budget, the award-winning indie was celebrated for its authenticity but failed to really find a large audience. 

In 2014, however, Mitchell unleashed It Follows, a high-concept supernatural horror film that cultivated major buzz on the film festival circuit before scoring big with both fans and critics. Today, the film is widely considered one of the greatest horror movies of all time.

Though Mitchell’s 2018 film, a noir-style mystery called Under the Silver Lake, failed to really connect with audiences, the director is definitely back on track with his first film in eight years. With its primeval critters, suburbia chaos, and killer ’80s soundtrack, The End of Oak Street may be the closest thing to a lost summer blockbuster from another era fans will ever get.

Bobby Flay is making sure everyone knows just how highly he thinks of his girlfriend Brooke Williamson.

The Food Network star celebrated Williamson’s 47th birthday on Saturday, August 15 with a sweet Instagram carousel featuring four photos along with a touching message. “Happy birthday to the most talented chef in the universe, @chefbrookew,” Flay, 61, wrote. “She’s pretty cute too! Xo”

One photo showed Williamson wearing a pink dress with bow details while digging into what appeared to be a key lime pie. Another captured the pair dressed up for a recent day at the races, with Williamson in a brown polka-dot dress and Flay sporting a checked suit.

Williamson also posed poolside in a striped swimsuit in another snap, while perhaps the most romantic shot showed the chefs dancing as Flay dipped his girlfriend.

Flay and Williamson have known each other for years through their work on Food Network, including Bobby’s Triple Threat, Beat Bobby Flay, and BBQ Brawl.
