‘Next Level Chef’ Season 5: Who Went Home Tonight? (Night 10 Elimination)

Thu, 04/30/2026 - 8:00pm

This Fourth of July, America will celebrate 250 years of delicious food, so what better challenge for the six remaining chefs on Next Level Chef than to throw a party in honor of America’s star-spangled semiquincentennial celebration.

The challenge in the "A Toast to America’s 250th" episode is for each chef to craft a showstopping cocktail and an elevated classic appetizer, which will be judged by Gordon Ramsay, Richard Blais and Nyesha Arrington, who reminded the chefs they want to taste the American spirit in the dishes.

After last week’s results, Cole and Darian were in the top-level kitchen with Gordon. Gabrielle and Connor were in the middle level with Richard, leaving Christian and Andy in the basement with Nyesha.

But Cole held the Time Token, which she chose to use to add 10 seconds to her grab, rather than take 10 seconds away from one of her competitors. And it paid off.

She said, “I thought long and hard about this all night, but I’m going to keep the 10 seconds for myself. If I out cook everyone, I want it to be on my own merit, not because they felt like they had a leg down.”

Here's our spoiler-filled recap of who went home on Next Level Chef tonight.

The first winning dish of the cocktail and elevated classic appetizer challenge was Connor’s lobster pupusa with a corn salsa and a spicy aioli and a strawberrymargarita; the second was the fried chicken lollipops with a spicy peach glaze and an Old-Fashioned cocktail by Cole.

The judges awarded the Time Token to Connor.

What was the elimination challenge on Next Level Chef tonight, and who lost it? Christian Alquiza

The two dishes that fell into the elimination cookoff were by Christian and Gabrielle. For their cook, each had to create their take on America’s favorite dish: a burger with fries, but with an elevated twist in 25 minutes.

The chef that cooked his final dish in the Next Level Kitchen was Christian.

“This by far has been the most exhilarating experience of my life, but I’ve also learned a lot from you three,” Christian said. “To just be recognized as someone who can hold their own means the world. I will never forget this moment. It’s embedded in my DNA how I’m growing as a chef. It is one for the books.”

Next Level Chef airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX. Streams next day on Hulu.

Did Pregnant White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt Welcome Her Baby Yet?

Thu, 04/30/2026 - 7:56pm

When White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced her maternity leave last week, she probably didn’t expect such a quick return to work. While she made a hasty reappearance following the assassination attempt on PresidentDonald Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Leavitt has been noticeably absent from the rest of the week’s events.

At 39 weeks pregnant, the soon-to-be mom of two recently said (prior to a news briefing), “This will likely be my last gaggle for some time. As you can see, I’m about ready to have a baby any minute. So, um, I will see you guys very soon.” Leavitt also posted last-day-at-work pics on Instagram, patting herself on the back for making it through a pregnancy while working and caring for a toddler. The Press Secretary also has an almost two-year-old son, Niko, with husband Nicholas Riccio

So, was she correct to say she would welcome her daughter "any minute"? To answer that question, we have to look at what happened next. As just about everyone already knows, immediately after the WHCD, King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived in the U.S. for a state visit to bolster the two nations’ relationship and to commemorate the 250th anniversary of America’s independence from Great Britain. But it looks like Leavitt was waiting for an arrival of her own!

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio (R) speaks with Vice President JD Vance and his wife Usha Vance before President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump greet Britain's King Charles III and Queen Camilla for an arrival ceremony on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, DC, on April 28, 2026. Key staff members gathered outside the White House to greet the royals and enjoyed a formal ceremony on the South Lawn. Likewise, some of the nation’s top political figures joined the President and First Lady  Melania Trump for a lavish state dinner at the White House. While pregnant Second Lady, Vice President JD Vance’s wife, Usha Vance, attended the April 28 arrival, and pregnant conservative podcaster and wife of Stephen Miller, Katie Miller (dressed to impress in a belly-bump-baring gown), went to the state dinner, Leavitt was one expectant mommy who was nowhere in sight.

View this post on Instagram

Her absence begs the question, “Did Karoline Leavitt have her baby?” Based on a new Instagram post, the answer is no. Leavitt recently shared a series of photos featuring her family outside, enjoying the spring sun. Dressed in a flowy, floral frock, Leavitt cradles her belly in one pic and gently pats her son Niko’s head in another. Along with the adorable images, she writes, “There is no greater blessing than motherhood. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.”

View this post on Instagram

Of course, it’s possible the sweet snapshots were taken weeks ago and only give the impression that she hasn’t given birth yet. But Leavitt did add a second post, featuring a family photo of herself, Niko, and Nicholas, with the caption, “Family of four incoming…” If Leavitt just dropped a hint in the statement, it looks like we’ll just have to wait!

Stephen Colbert Was Offered Contract Extension Before CBS Canceled 'Late Show'

Thu, 04/30/2026 - 7:43pm

Stephen Colbert is just days away from saying goodbye to The Late Show audiences. However, according to the host, he was previously offered a contract renewal before CBS pulled the plug on his late-night talk show.

Colbert, 61, opened up about the end of his late-night reign in a recent interview with the New York Times, telling the outlet that in 2023 CBS "encouraged him" to sign a five-year contract extension.

However, in July 2025, CBS announced they were pulling the plug on The Late Show, claiming the decision was "purely a financial" one.

"I do not dispute their rationale," the longtime host told NYT. "I do make jokes about it. But I also completely understand why people would say (A) that doesn’t make sense to me and (B) that seems fishy to me, because the network did it to themselves by bending the knee to the Trump administration over a $20 billion, settled for $16 million, completely frivolous lawsuit."

He continued, "It’s possible that two things can be true. Broadcast can be in trouble. They cannot monetize because of things like YouTube, because of the competition of streaming. They’ve got the books, and I do not have any desire to debate them over what they say their business model is and how it does not work for them anymore. But less than two years before they called to say it’s over, they were very eager for me to be signed for a long time. So, something changed."

Colbert's final appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert will air Thursday, May 21.

May the Fourth is around the corner, and Crumbl is getting ready for the annual Star Wars celebration by releasing an out-of-this-world dessert for one day only.

The Galaxy Brownie Cookie, available only on May 4th, is described by Crumbl as “a brownie cookie smothered in a warm fudge glaze and sprinkled with rainbow candy bits, designed to be fudgy and delicious in every bite.”

With candy bits sprinkled on top to represent the Star Wars galaxy, this cookie was also available in 2025 to celebrate the movie-inspired holiday.

Crumbl/JBC PR

Also available on May 4th, Crumbl is launching a brand new Mother’s Day “bundl” with limited edition dessert boxes, which will come in large 6-pack, mini 6-pack, large 12-pack and mini 12-pack options. Order fulfillments will be available from May 4-9, with pre-orders available between now and May 3.

“Moms make life sweeter… so we made dessert easy,” Crumbl posted on Instagram. “Meet your new go-to Mother's Day gift.”

Both the Mother’s Day “bundl” and the Galaxy Brownie Cookie come on the heels of Crumbl’s recent fudgy Brownie Dippers, as the company works to evolve its menu beyond just cookies. These desserts show off Crumbl’s creative side, as they continue to develop new recipes.

The Galaxy Brownie Cookie will only be available while supplies last, with updates on their weekly rotating menu shared on social media.

1965 Hit Film Lasting Just 45 Minutes Ranked Among ‘Best Movies of All Time’

Thu, 04/30/2026 - 7:18pm

In 1965, a film that barely ran longer than a television episode managed to leave a lasting mark on cinema history.

Simon of the Desert, directed by Luis Buñuel, has since been ranked among the best movies of all time by Rotten Tomatoes, proving that length has little to do with impact.

Clocking in at just about 45 minutes, the film stands out not only for its brevity but for its bold, unconventional storytelling. It follows a devout ascetic, Simon, who lives atop a towering pillar in the desert, seeking spiritual purity while resisting temptation. But as the film unfolds, his isolation is challenged by increasingly surreal encounters, most notably with the Devil, who appears in unexpected forms.

True to Buñuel's signature style, Simon of the Desert blends religious symbolism with dark humor and absurdity, creating a narrative that feels both philosophical and deeply satirical. The film questions faith, devotion and the nature of sacrifice, all while maintaining a tone that is at once playful and unsettling.

No Buñuel film is complete without his signature humor, and he always finds something worthy of laughter. "Always —even if it is tragedy," he told The New York Times. "You must always laugh. There is always an aspect of the absurd.”

Its short runtime was not originally intended. Production constraints forced Buñuel to end the film earlier than planned, resulting in a famously abrupt and surreal conclusion that only adds to its mystique. Rather than diminishing the film, that unexpected ending has become one of its most talked-about features.

Despite its unconventional structure, Simon of the Desert earned critical acclaim, winning the Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival and further cementing Buñuel's reputation as one of cinema's most innovative directors.

Decades later, the film continues to be studied and celebrated for its originality and daring approach to storytelling. And yet, it feels inherently Buñuel. "The subjects are different, but my way of making them is always the same," the director said. "I never make protection shots,” though occasionally he does reshoot scenes "to improve details."

Its place among the best movies of all time serves as a reminder that even the shortest films can leave the deepest impressions.

Critically-Acclaimed Netflix Royal Family Series Is Getting a Prequel Spin-Off

Thu, 04/30/2026 - 6:46pm

Netflix's The Crown followed 58 years of Queen Elizabeth II's more than 70 year reign. Beginning right at the start with the wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Philip Mountbatten in 1947 and ending with the 2005 wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles, The Crown has received critical acclaim for its performances, writing, and production value despite historical inaccuracies being pointed out in some of the plot lines.

The series finale aired in 2023, and Netflix was already in talks for a spin-off with Left Bank Pictures. The deal (for a reported $676 million) was highly anticipated given the wild popularity of the original series. As of April 30th, 2026, the prequel was reportedly given a green light, with the original creator, Peter Morgan, returning to run the show.

The prequel will reportedly span over the previous 50 years leading up to the first episode of the original series. Leading with the death of Queen Victoria in 1901, the series will also reportedly cover the reigns of the four kings who all reigned during that period—Edward VII, George V, Edward VIII, and George VI. Queen Elizabeth II would likely appear at some point during her grandfather, George V's, reign. Additionally, the timeline of the prequel would cover incredibly turbulent times in history including both World Wars, the establishment of the House of Windsor in 1917, and the abdication crisis of 1936.

Even though fans may have hinted that they'd devour a Meghan Markle and Prince Harry or more modern season, creator Peter Morgan has long said he prefers to look at the past rather than stories that are still unfolding: “I sort of have in my head a 20-year rule. That is enough time and enough distance to really understand something, to understand its role, to understand its position, to understand its relevance. Often things that appear absolutely wildly important today are instantly forgotten, and other things have a habit of sticking around and proving to be historically very relevant and long-lasting.”

Fans and critics alike loved the original series of The Crown, which won 24 Primetime Emmys and eight Golden Globes over the course of its six-series run. This coupled with the fascination of the British Royal Family makes a continuation of the series one people are hungry for.

Adam Scott Says ‘Parks and Recreation’ Would Be ‘Different' in Trump Era’

Thu, 04/30/2026 - 6:26pm

Adam Scott opened up to Variety about how he thinks the hit sitcomParks and Recreation would differ because of the current president.

The comedy series ran for seven seasons from 2009-2015, following government employees in a small town. Scott plays BenWyatt, a state auditor and love interest for the main character LeslieKnope, played by AmyPoehler.

The Big Little Lies actor reflected on how President DonaldTrump’s policies would influence the show if it were still on.

“It is a dark time right now. And I do feel like our country may have lost what was left of its innocence in 2015, when Donald Trump stepped up and stepped into politics,” he said. “And it’s easy to forget just how much our country has changed in the last 10 or 11 years.”

In hard times, Scott knows the NBC sitcom is a positive outlet for many people.

“I think back on ‘Parks and Rec’ and the hope and joy that it brings people,” he said. “It’s so lovely to hear from people that it helped them through the pandemic or helps them through trying times now.

The 58-year-old actor isn’t sure how the series would look in the current political era

“But as far as whether it could kind of survive or how it would sit in the now if it started now: Certainly, it would be different,” he said.

While the mockumentary-style series may require changes if still airing, Scott has seen that current comedy shows have overcome the challenge.

“But something like ‘Abbott Elementary’ is able to maintain this really lovely tone, and it’s able to be hilarious and heartfelt and all of those things in a climate that isn’t always conducive to that. They’re able to protect themselves and make this great show. I think there’s always an audience for that.”

Scott is starring in the new film Hokum, hitting theatres May 1, 2026.

NBC 4 New York host Sara Gore just announced her cancer diagnosis live on air—and viewers have since flooded her with prayers on social media.

"Well, we have shared all kinds of things together on this show over the years—where to eat, what to do, what to see. But today, I want to share something a little more personal," she began. "Which is hard for me because, you know what, because this show has never been about me. It's about our guests, it's about the city that we love, it's about all of you."

The NBC host, who has been with the network for more than 15 years, then shared, "It just felt right to tell you myself: I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and I'm going to be stepping away for treatment and surgery."

Gore added, "If I didn't say that I was a little bit scared, I'd be lying," noting that her mother and sister have also battled breast cancer.

"I always knew I was high-risk," she admitted. "And I always assumed this day would come. But let me tell you, you are never ready. You're just never ready, for some reason, even when you catch it early because you're doing everything right."

While fighting back tears, Gore admitted the cancer diagnosis was an "emotional blow," but that she is "exactly where I need to be, and I'm surrounded by incredible doctors and people who are taking such good care of me."

2009 Film With Classic Rock Surprise Ranked Best Movie to Heal a Broken Heart

Thu, 04/30/2026 - 6:18pm

Breaking up is hard to do. You know this. But you don’t have to go at it alone. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel are here for you. Ranked as the very best remedy for healing a broken heart, the forever emotionally relatable (500) Days of Summertops Brides’ list of “feel-good movies to watch after a breakup.” And we couldn’t agree more. Especially since the film’s classic rock surprise is guaranteed to crack a smile.

🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

Touted as a “story about love” rather than a love story, the film underscores its doomed romance through carefully chosen musical cues that hint at Tom and Summer’s fate. From Patrick Swayze’s “She’s Like the Wind” to Temper Trap’s “Sweet Disposition” and Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bookends,” each track carries themes of transience, longing, or even real-life band breakups. Even the upbeat mid-movie surprise sequence set to Hall & Oates’ “You Make My Dreams Come True” was selected with irony in mind, as the duo had also split. The result is a soundtrack that deepens the film's emotional storytelling, rather than just enhances the traditional rom-com tone.

View this post on Instagram

For the uninitiated, (500) Days of Summer covers a year in the love life of a hopeless romantic named Tom Hansen. A greeting card writer, he meets Deschanel's blue-eyed beauty at work. Her name is Summer Finn, she loves The Smiths, and she's super honest, even warning Tom upfront that she doesn’t believe in love. And still, their story about love begins. Unfolding over a nonlinear timeline, showing Tom’s memory vs. reality, the viewer is swept up in Tom’s grief, confusion, and romantic disillusionment.

Inspired by real-life heartbreak, a lot of the movie’s narrative is borrowed from screenwriter Scott Neustadter getting dumped by a woman named Jenny Beckman, Refinery29 notes. Music video director-turned-filmmaker Marc Webb adds that the color blue is used heavily in the film to both enhance his leading lady's baby blues, but to also stay loyal to the overall blue mood of the movie. Red, the color of love, is seen only twice: as an origami bird and on Minka Kelly’s Autumn at the end.

So, final verdict: You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you might even feel a little lighter by the end of Webb’s debut film. It’s proof that even when hearts break, they mend. Life moves forward. And sometimes, the right person is just on the other side of lonely. As Deschanel once put it: “Everyone has the heartbreak that shapes them in a way that they could never go back to the innocence that they had before.” Hang in there.

1978 Disco Classic, 'Le Freak' Among Best-Selling Singles of All Time, Was Inspired by Rejection

Thu, 04/30/2026 - 6:02pm

Forty-eight years ago, the iconic '70s disco group Chic dominated the Billboard Hot 100 chart for six weeks with their hit song, "Le Freak."

Released on September 21, 1978, as the lead single from their second studio album, C'est Chic, "Le Freak" was a massive success. Upon its release, it climbed up the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 1 for six non-consecutive weeks. By taking the top spot three separate times between December 1978 and January 1979, it became the first song in history to achieve this feat. "Le Freak" also topped the R&B and Disco charts for seven consecutive weeks.

Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards and Alfa Anderson of Chic perform in London in 1978.

Gus Stewart/Redferns

Aside from its undeniable chart dominance, "Le Freak" also experienced significant commercial success. In November 1978, the track was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) after selling over 1 million copies. It later achieved Platinum status and went on to sell over 7 million copies worldwide, becoming the best-selling single in history for Atlantic Records.

Produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards of Chic, "Le Freak" is recognizable for its driving bassline and signature groovy sound. The track blends funk influences with quintessential disco elements to create a stunning track that defined the genre in the late '70s.

Co-written Rodgers and Edwards, "Le Freak" was inspired by an incident when the band was famously turned away from the Studio 54 nightclub in New York on New Year's Eve. The original chorus lyrics were a profane, "F— off!" but were later altered to "Freak out!" to appeal to a wider audience. Despite the change, the rebellious sentiment remained the same.

To this day, "Le Freak" is still a massively popular song that continues to persevere in the streaming era with modern audiences. On Spotify alone, the track has accumulated over 89 million streams, attesting to its lasting ability to move audiences across generations.

The 12 Best Matcha Powders, According to a Daily Drinker Who's Tried Them All

Thu, 04/30/2026 - 5:44pm

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

I’m the notorious friend in my group who doesn’t drink coffee (I know… I know). While everyone else is lining up for their morning cold brew, I’ve always gravitated toward something a little softer, that doesn’t hit all at once and send me into a jittery spiral. That’s where matcha comes in. If you've been looking for the best matcha powders, you're not alone.

There’s something about the slow, steady caffeine release from green tea that just works for me. It feels calmer, more balanced by gentler nudge into the day instead of a full-on shove. And whether I’ve fully given into the trendiness of matcha or it’s simply impossible to escape thanks to viral recipes and café menus everywhere, I can confidently say: I’m all in. Matcha is the official star of my morning routine and often times, it's my my afternoon pick-me-up as well.

Matcha isn’t just delicious, but it’s also packed with benefits. It’s rich in antioxidants (especially catechins like EGCG), supports focus thanks to L-theanine, and provides that sustained energy without the crash. Plus, it’s incredibly versatile, whether you’re whisking up a traditional cup or turning it into a strawberry vanilla matcha latte at home...you can dress it up or down depending on your taste and mood.

So I set out to test a range of popular matcha powders, from budget-friendly to premium, to find the best ones for every kind of tea drinker. There's such a wide range in the various options of matcha powders, so there's likely a spot on your shelf for many different types.

What Is Matcha, Exactly?

Matcha is a finely ground powder made from specially grown green tea leaves. Unlike traditional green tea where you steep the leaves and discard them, matcha involves consuming the entire leaf, which is why it’s more concentrated in both flavor and nutrients.

The leaves are shade-grown before harvest, which boosts chlorophyll levels and gives matcha its vibrant green color. After harvesting, the leaves are steamed, dried and stone-ground into an ultra-fine powder.

There are generally two main types:

  • Ceremonial grade, which is higher quality, smoother and meant for drinking
  • Culinary grade, which is slightly more bitter and best suited for cooking or baking

I tried so many types and different kinds, and I'm firing on all cylinders to share my findings.

How I Tested These Matchas

To keep things consistent, I prepared each matcha using a standard method I saw repeated across most brands. I whisked in an "M" shape, about 1 teaspoon of matcha powder with ¼ cup of cool water to break up any clumps.

I gave each a taste test at this stage (don't say I don't do anything for you!) to get the real deal flavor profile before it got watered down.

Next, I added hot water (around 170-180 degrees) and gave each up a light stir, until combined.

For matcha sticks or packets, I followed the package directions exactly, which for both that I tried, was to add them to hot water and stir.

From this point I evaluated each based on color, aroma, smoothness, bitterness and overall flavor, both on its own and in a latte.

Helpful Matcha Tools You Might Need

Courtesy Jeanette Donnarumma

If you want to make matcha at home regularly, a few simple tools can make a big difference. A traditional bamboo whisk (called a chasen) helps create that smooth, frothy texture that’s hard to achieve with a spoon. Pair it with a small bowl and you’re already halfway to a café-quality drink.

You might also see a slim bamboo scoop called a chashaku (a bamboo shovel if you will), which is traditionally used to portion matcha. While it’s not essential, it does make the process feel a little more intentional and honestly, more fun.

A small handheld strainer is also helpful for getting out an early stage clumps in the powder.

If you’re not in the market for some new kitchen tools, many of the brands suggest a handheld frother or even a small kitchen whisk to get the job done.

What To Look for in a Matcha

Courtesy Jeanette Donnarumma

Not all matcha is created equal, and there are a few key things to look for when choosing one:

  • Color: A vibrant, bright green is a good sign of freshness and quality
  • Texture: It should be very fine and silky, not gritty
  • Flavor: High-quality matcha should taste smooth, slightly sweet and umami, not overly bitter
  • Intended use: Ceremonial for drinking, culinary for baking and recipes
  • Price: Higher-quality matcha tends to cost more, but there are great options at every price point

12 Best Matcha Powders, Tested by a Daily Drinker Who's Tried Them All

Here's what I thought of these 12 different matcha powders.

1. Best Matcha Overall: Jade Leaf Organic Ceremonial Matcha – Barista Edition, $19.99

Courtesy Jeanette Donnarumma

Shop It on Amazon

This was the most well-rounded matcha I tested and the one I kept reaching for again and again. It has that vibrant green color you want, a smooth texture and a balanced flavor that’s not too grassy or bitter.

There’s a subtle natural sweetness that makes it easy to drink on its own, but it also holds up beautifully in lattes. If you’re looking for a dependable, everyday matcha that feels high quality without being overly precious, this is the one I’d recommend to almost anyone.

2. Best for Cooking and Baking: The Republic of Tea Daily Matcha, $18

Courtesy Jeanette Donnarumma

Shop It on Amazon

This one feels like a true workhorse matcha. It blends easily, has a consistent flavor and works well across a variety of recipes. It’s not overly delicate, which makes it perfect for everyday use—especially if you’re adding milk, sweeteners or other ingredients. Think of this as your reliable, no-fuss option when you want matcha flavor without overthinking it.

3. Best Emerging Brand: 27 Teas Matcha, $55.95

Courtesy Jeanette Donnarumma

Shop It at 27 Teas

This was a pleasant surprise. It has a bright color, smooth texture and a well-balanced flavor that works across different uses—from straight matcha to lattes. It feels like a brand to watch, especially if you’re looking to try something new outside of the more established names.

4. Best Budget-Friendly Matcha: Tea with Tae Premium Matcha, $20

Courtesy Jeanette Donnarumma

Shop It at Tea With Tae

There’s a noticeable freshness to this matcha that sets it apart. It has a clean, slightly sweet flavor with a smooth finish, and it feels thoughtfully sourced and produced. It’s a great middle-ground option; it's elevated, but still approachable enough for everyday use. And 4 ounces for $20 is an absolute steal in this market.

5. The Underdog Matcha: The Republic of Tea Organic Ceremonial Matcha, $22.30

Courtesy Jeanette Donnarumma

Shop It on Amazon

If you’re looking to get into ceremonial matcha without spending a lot, this is a great entry point. It has a pleasant, mild flavor with minimal bitterness and a smooth enough texture for daily drinking. While it may not have the same depth as higher-end options, it absolutely gets the job done, especially for lattes or casual morning routines. I'll call this the underdog because with great flavor and a great price, you're rooting for it.

6. Best Culinary Grade Matcha: Jade Leaf Organic Japanese Matcha, $10.99

Courtesy Jeanette Donnarumma

Shop It on Amazon

This is exactly what you want from a culinary matcha. It's bold, slightly more bitter and strong enough to shine through in recipes. Whether you’re baking, blending it into smoothies, or making matcha pancakes, it delivers that signature green tea flavor without getting lost. It’s also one of the most affordable options, making it a great pantry staple if you cook or bake with matcha often.

7. Best Premium Matcha: Matcha.com Ceremonial Grade Matcha, $61

Courtesy Jeanette Donnarumma

Shop It at Matcha.com

This is where you start to notice the difference in quality. The flavor is more layered and complex, with a silky mouthfeel and a clean finish that lingers in a really pleasant way. It’s less bitter, more nuanced and clearly crafted with care. This is the kind of matcha you sip slowly and appreciate. It's perfect if you’re treating yourself or really want to experience matcha at a higher level and flavor profile.

8. Best for Lattes: Golde Pure Matcha Ceremonial Grade, $39

Courtesy Jeanette Donnarumma

Shop It at Golde

In trying this one, it had a sweetness unlike the others. It’s smooth, slightly sweet and not overly grassy, which I think makes it ideal for matcha lattes, especially if you like to add flavors with sweet notes. It blends well and keeps its flavor without being overpowering, making it a great everyday option for your morning (or afternoon) drink.

9. Best Low-Caffeine Option: Isshiki Hojicha Roasted Green Tea, $29

Courtesy Jeanette Donnarumma

Shop It on Amazon

While not technically matcha, this roasted green tea powder is worth including. It has a warm, nutty flavor with subtle sweetness and significantly less caffeine, making it a great alternative for afternoons or evenings. If traditional matcha feels too strong for you, this is a cozy, mellow option that still feels special.

10. Best On-the-Go Matcha: Trader Joe’s Matcha Green Tea Powder, $7.99 in store ($22.30 for 2-pack on Amazon)

Courtesy Jeanette Donnarumma

Shop It on Amazon

Convenience is the name of the game here. This is a super accessible option that’s easy to grab and use, especially if you’re new to matcha or just want something quick. It’s not the most complex flavor-wise, but it’s affordable, approachable and perfect for tossing into smoothies or making a fast latte.

Honorable Mention:Matcha.com Ceremonial Matcha Sticks are also a great option for travel or single-serve use...no measuring required.

11. Best for Beginners: Clean Ceremonial Grade Matcha, $40

Courtesy Jeanette Donnarumma

Shop It at Clean

If you’re just getting into matcha, this is a great place to start. The flavor is light, smooth, and not too grassy or intense, which can sometimes be a barrier for new drinkers. It’s easy to whisk, easy to drink and a nice introduction to what good matcha should taste like without being overwhelming.

12. Best Umami Flavor: Isshiki Ceremonial Yabukita Matcha, $39

Courtesy Jeanette Donnarumma

Shop It on Amazon

This one leans into that classic, savory matcha profile. It has a deeper, more umami-forward flavor with a slightly richer body, which makes it stand out from the more mild options. It’s not as beginner-friendly, but if you appreciate a more traditional matcha taste, this one really delivers.

Final Takeaways

After testing all of these, one thing became really clear: the “best” matcha isn’t one-size-fits-all, it depends entirely on where you are in your matcha journey.

If you’re someone who loves a straight, traditional cup, investing in a higher-quality, organic, ceremonial matcha makes a noticeable difference in both flavor and texture. But if you’re more of a latte person (like me most days), there are plenty of mid-range options that taste amazing and don’t feel like a splurge. In this taste test, I learned having multiple types of matcha around is almost like having various types of cooking oils; each one has its time and place.

Matcha has become such a big part of my routine not just because of the flavor, but because of how it makes me feel. It’s a slower, more intentional way to start the day and one that I genuinely look forward to.

And for someone who swore she’d never give up her “non-coffee girl” identity, I think it’s safe to say matcha has officially won me over.

Britney Spears Has Officially Been Charged With a DUI

Thu, 04/30/2026 - 5:42pm

Britney Spears was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) on March 4. The incident took place on the 101 Freeway in Newbury Park, and according to the CHP, Spears failed a series of sobriety tests at the scene. She was arrested and reported for “driving erratically at a high rate of speed,” the officials said.

On April 30, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office officially charged Spears with a misdemeanor.

The district attorney’s office said that Spears was driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, which is a misdemeanor. They did not specify what type of drug, and according to the New York Times, a spokesperson for the office wouldn’t provide additional details. Earlier this month, Spears checked herself into a treatment facility.

A source spoke withPeople Magazine after she checked herself into the facility, saying that her sons are the reason why she decided to go to treatment.

"Her sons were a big part of getting her to rehab,” the source told People. “They've been clear with her. They just want her to be healthy. She was very upset and shaken after her arrest. And she's terrified of going to jail. It's taken weeks for her to realize that going to rehab is the best option.”

When Spears was arrested on March 4, Ryan Ayers, a CHP spokesman, said that her behavior was “completely inexcusable.”

“Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long-overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life,” Ayers said.

Spears will be arraigned on Monday, May 4, in Ventura County Superior Court. According to the prosecutors, she is not required to appear in court because it’s a misdemeanor charge.

On Monday, she will be offered to plead guilty and get a year of probation, “credit for any time served in jail, a required DUI class and state-mandated fines and fees,” AP reported.

In 2007, the singer was involved in a hit-and-run incident. She was charged with two misdemeanors: one for the hit-and-run, which caused property damage, and the other for driving without a valid driver’s license. She fully compensated for the property damage.

7 Phrases To Avoid When Emailing a Millennial, According to an Etiquette Expert

Thu, 04/30/2026 - 5:11pm

Communication is hard enough as is, right? Whether that’s in the context of arguments, texts with no tone or even just everyday conversations, it’s easy to misunderstand what someone is saying, or for them to think you said something you didn’t. Bring in generational differences, then add a professional setting—like work—and the struggle is even more real. We all grow up with different experiences, use different slang terms (that we don’t always know are technically slang) and so forth. It’s no wonder that miscommunication is so commonplace, even when we put forward our best efforts.

If you work with someone you suspect or know to be a Millennial, there are some phrases you may want to avoid (just as with any generation) for the most effective, respectful discussion. That’s because, to Millennials, the phrases in question can come across as disrespectful or derogatory, even if you don’t mean it that way, which can cause additional problems and be generally unhelpful.

To help you know what to say and not say to these coworkers, an etiquette expert shares the best ways to communicate with a Millennial, seven phrases to avoid when emailing them, alternative phrases that are safer bets and final takeaways. Read on for her helpful (and perhaps unexpected) insights.

What Age Range Makes Up Millennials?

Since there can be confusion about who a Millennial is (especially since “Zillennials,” born in the in-between stage of Gen Z and Millennials, also exist), let’s clarify who makes up this generation.

In short, Millennials were born around 1981 and 1996, so they're currently around 29 to 44 years old.

How To Best Communicate With a Millennial and Why, According to an Etiquette Expert

Luis Alvarez/Getty Images

Not all Millennials are the same, but generally speaking, what’s their communication style, and what might it stem from? Parade asked an etiquette expert.

The most important communication value for Millennials is being genuine.

“This is a generation that has watched institutions perform authenticity for decades and gotten very good at spotting the difference,” says Genevieve (Jenny) Dreizen, the COO and co-founder of Fresh Starts Registry and a modern-day etiquette and boundaries expert. She’s also a Millennial herself, so she gets it firsthand. She adds that “communication that respects boundaries lands better.”

To explain, Dreizen gives some context concerning what Millennials have experienced:

  • Millennials grew up straddling analog and digital worlds, which shapes how they communicate.
  • Millennials are curious, collaborative and assume digital fluency.
  • Millennials have been through the wringer with jobs and the job market, throwing themselves at their jobs and believing they could be treated poorly because their coworkers are their “family.” Now, they believe that work-life balance is non-negotiable.

7 Phrases To Avoid When Emailing Millennial Coworkers

Without further ado, here are the key phrases to delete from your email to a Millennial coworker.

1. “That’s not how we do things here”

Tradition is not the most valid argument for this generation.

“Millennials entered the workforce during the recession of 2008 and have watched entire industries get disrupted,” Dreizen explains. “This phrase closes down conversation without offering any actual reasoning.”

2. “You should feel lucky to have this opportunity”

Gratitude is great, but that’s not what we’re talking about here.

Millennials are the most educated generation in American history and have often heard this line to justify poor working conditions and/or low compensation,” Dreizen says. “Phrasing like this makes it sound like they haven’t worked hard, often still paying off the debts of their education, to get to where they are.”

3. “I need this ASAP”

This phrase is a no-no, partially because of that same recession piece.

“Coming into the workforce during a recession meant many Millennials took any job [they] could get and worked really hard to keep it,” Dreizen shares. “This often meant no boundaries. Now, as ['elder Millennials' are in their] 30s and 40s, [they] often repeat to each other, ‘Your urgency is not my emergency’ and ‘There is no such thing as a marketing emergency.’”

4. “Can we jump on a call?”

Millennials are often shy with phone calls, and they know email can be a quicker, more effective way to answer certain questions.

“Phone calls are important," Dreizen acknowledges, but then shares that there have been a vast number of times that someone has insisted on "just a 15-minute call," only to share questions via email that she's answered "many, many times before." Not to mention, she can answer it in an email "in a few seconds, rather than marking time off in my calendar for a call,” Dreizen recalls. So while older generations might not think about the quickness of email versus a call, Millennials are painfully aware.

Related: The #1 Unexpected Reason Why Millennials Hate Talking on the Phone, According to Psychologists

5. “You’re so tech-savvy for your age”

While Millennials are young, they aren’t the youngest generation, nor did they always have technology.

“We were in middle school, by and large, when computers/the Internet came into play,” Dreizen says, again referring mostly to elder Millennials. But those born in the late '90s were also a part of this in-between technology phase. “We know life without technology… and now we’re adults with businesses, families and a thorough understanding of technology.”

6. “We’re a family here”

Millennials are no stranger to this phrase, and they’ve watched their work-life balance blow up in the midst of it.

“Family [equaling] company is an idea that went out alongside our American Apparel skater skirts,” Dreizen states.

7. “I don’t need to explain my reasoning”

According to Dreizen, “few phrases land worse” than this one.

“Millennials generally expect transparency from leadership, and stonewalling—even from a position of legitimate authority—tends to disengage rather than align,” she explains. “You don’t have to justify every decision, but acknowledging that reasoning exists goes a long way.”

Related: Etiquette Experts Say These 7 Office Behaviors Make Coworkers Dislike You Fast

Alternative Phrases To Use With Millennials

Not sure what phrases would work well with this generation? Not to fear. Dreizen shares a few examples.

“Here’s the goal and why”

According to Dreizen, Millennials might get their work done differently, so knowing the goal helps them do their best work while also achieving what’s necessary. It “allows them to solve the problem in their own way,” she says.

“I’d love your input on this”

While this compliment could feel nice to anyone, the reasoning for Millennials is unique.

“In a diverse workplace, Millennials (and all generations!) have a unique perspective—[Millennials have] straddled the digital and analog, they’ve survived too many unprecedented events—their input has value, and [this phrase] shows you value them,” Dreizen says.

“Here is what success looks like”

Many Millennials are also perfectionists, Dreizen shares, so knowing what to aim for is valuable for them (and others).

“They succeed when they know clear benchmarks and goal posts,” she continues. “If you move the goal posts, recognize this and don’t act like it’s their failing.”

Final Takeaways

Email etiquette is more complicated than just general manners. It also depends on the person’s age since generational differences are so present. When emailing a Millennial (aka, someone between the ages of 29 and 44), consider avoiding phrases they may find off-putting or uncomfortable, such as “That’s not how we do things here,” “Can we jump on a call?” or “We’re a family here.” Rather, be clear about what goals are and what success looks like, and appreciate the unique value they bring.

Because it’s made from 100% cotton, it might shrink slightly after washing and drying.  If you’re between sizes or prefer a more relaxed fit, it's worth considering sizing up.
