Summer is around the corner, and hydration is officially part of the outfit. As travel plans fill calendars and warm-weather routines return, Target shoppers are looking for water bottles that do more than just keep drinks cold. Target just teamed up with Owala on a limited-edition drop that taps into one of 2026's biggest style trends.
The new Target Owala collection is inspired by the American West, leaning into the cowgirl core aesthetic that has been dominating fashion runways and social feeds this year. Think desert tones, subtle paisley patterns and playful prints that feel equally at home at a music festival or clipped onto a carry-on bag.
This special edition Owala lineup includes five 24-fluid-ounce stainless steel FreeSip bottles, each retailing for $34.99 at Target. The designs are exclusive to Target and sold as limited releases, meaning once they sell out, they are not expected to restock.
The collection features:
- Studded Garden, a dusty blue bottle with a minimal floral motif
- Cowgirl Core, a bold cow print that leans fully into Western flair
- Midnight Rodeo, a deep midnight blue with a subtle paisley-inspired pattern
- Painted Canyon, a soft pink with a darker pink minimalist paisley design
- Spur of the Moment, a light pink with a yellow paisley pattern
Each Target Owala bottle in the Western-inspired collection features the brand's signature 24-ounce stainless steel insulated design. The bottles feature triple-layer insulation to keep drinks cold for hours, a leak-proof push-button lid, and Owala's patented FreeSip spout that lets you sip through a built-in straw or tilt back to swig.

We Asked 5 Endocrinologists About the Worst Habit for Your Metabolism After 50 and They All Said the Same Thing
Your metabolism supports your bodyâs energy production and calorie management, but it naturally slows with age. That can have an impact on everything from how peppy you feel to your weight.Â
âWhen you're young, the metabolism is always acting at a high rate to burn fuel,â says Dr. Dora Cobrinik, MD, endocrinologist at Tufts Medical Center. âBut with age, the metabolism changes, and more fuelâthe food we eatâends up getting stored as fat rather than getting burned.â This is partly because people tend to lose muscle and may be less active, says Dr. Ruchi Gaba, MD, associate professor of endocrinology at Baylor College of Medicine. âBut hormones and genetics also play a role,â she addsÂ
You canât do anything about your age or genetics, but endocrinologists agree that lifestyle habits can supportâor hurtâyour metabolism. âAging does not directly slow metabolism,â says Dr. Maram Khalifa, MD, endocrinologist and assistant professor of medicine at UConn Health. Instead, she points out that behavioral changes and changes to your body composition, like losing muscle due to being less active, can mess with your metabolism.Â

âThis is clinically important because it means metabolic decline is modifiable,â Dr. Khalifa explains.Â
An important thing you can do to support metabolic health is to choose the right foods and have them at certain times of the day. âAll meals should be well-balanced with lean protein, complex carbs and healthy fats,â says Dr. Benjamin OâDonnell, MD, endocrinologist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
But thereâs a common dietary habit people fall into that can interfere with their metabolic health, especially as you age. Endocrinologists recommend being on the lookout for this one.Â

The Worst Habit for Your Metabolism After 50, According to EndocrinologistsSkipping protein at breakfast is a bad habit for your metabolism, according to Dr. Gillian Goddard, MD, endocrinologist at Park Avenue Endocrinology & Nutrition and an adjunct assistant professor of medicine at the NYU Langone Hospital.Â
âIf you aren't having protein in your breakfast, you are likely consuming a lot of carbs. Think: cereal with fat-free milk or instant oatmeal,â she says. That causes a spike in your blood sugar, which will then plummet, leaving you hungry and craving carbohydrates again, Dr. Goddard explains, adding, âThe cycle often repeats all day long."
Related: We Asked 3 Neurologists About the Best Breakfast for Memory and They All Said the Same Thing
Regularly skipping protein at breakfast will accelerate muscle loss, which can slow your metabolism even more, Dr. Khalifa says.Â
While having protein throughout the day is crucial, âthe morning is a particularly important time to have your high-protein meals, as your metabolism is most active during this time,â Cobrinik explains.Â
What To Eat To Support Your MetabolismDr. Khalifa recommends following a Mediterranean Diet to support metabolism. âThe Mediterranean Diet, with higher protein targets, receives the strongest evidence for metabolic health and sustainable weight management in aging,â she says.Â
Dr. Khalifa also suggests evenly spacing out protein across all meals and avoiding the temptation to try to jam in your protein needs at the end of the day. âSingle large protein dinners cannot compensate for inadequate earlier meals,â she says.Â
Just donât neglect protein first thing. âAdding protein to your morning meal can help keep your energy steady and make you feel full longer,â Dr. Gaba tells Parade. Eggs, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, nut butter, chicken and turkey sausage are all good options, she adds. Â
âEven small additions of protein can make a noticeable difference in how you feel later in the day,â she reveals. âAcross the day, focusing on enough protein, whole foods and limiting highly-processed foods can help support overall metabolic health.â

Other Ways To Support Your Metabolic Health as You AgeEndocrinologists recommend making other lifestyle tweaks to support your metabolic health as you get older.Â
âRegular exercise is crucial for metabolic health,â Cobrinik says. âBoth cardio and strength training are good for this, and doing a combination of both throughout the week may be best.â
Dr. Goddard also recommends prioritizing sleep. âFor most people that means seven to nine hours per night,â she says.
Poor sleep interferes with hunger hormone signaling, elevates levels of the stress hormone cortisol and can interfere with blood sugar management, all of which can have an impact on your metabolism, Dr. Khalifa explains.Â
But if youâre concerned about your metabolic health and feel like itâs off, experts say itâs a good idea to check in with a healthcare provider for an evaluation.Â

Seven Years Ago, 2000s Actress Pleaded Guilty in College Admissions Scandal
Seven years ago, actress Felicity Huffman, best known for playing Lynette Scavo in Desperate Housewives, pleaded guilty in a major college admissions cheating case that shocked Hollywood and the United States.
On May 13, 2019, Huffman appeared in federal court in Boston. Shereportedly cried as she admitted her role in a scheme to boost her daughterâs SAT scores. She entered a guilty plea to conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud.
As she entered the courthouse, she avoided cameras and reporters. Inside, she told the judge that her daughter did not know about the scheme. She also said her daughterâs extra time testing accommodation was legitimate.
Felicity Huffman in the "What I Did For Love" episode of DOC.âEverything elseâ that prosecutors accused her of doing, she said, âI did.â
The case involved wealthy parents, college coaches, test administrators and consultants accused of cheating the system to get students into top universities.
According to NPR, prosecutors said Huffman paid $15,000 to have someone secretly correct her daughterâs wrong answers after she took the SAT. That action was part of a larger operation led by admissions consultant William âRickâ Singer.
Authorities said the scheme included fake test accommodations, altered scores and bribery payments disguised as donations.
Huffman said in a public statement that she accepted âfull responsibility for [her] actionsâ and expressed âdeep regret and shame.â She also apologized to students who studied hard and followed the rules.
Prosecutors recommended a $20,000 fine and a four-month prison sentence. She ultimately served 14 days in prison in 2019.
Before the scandal, Huffman was a major television star. She earned an Emmy Award for Desperate Housewives and an Academy Award nomination for the film Transamerica.
Her career included roles in Sports Night, Magnolia and American Crime, where she continued to receive critical praise.
At the time of the scandal, she was one of dozens charged in what prosecutors called a wide-reaching conspiracy involving elite schools and fake athletic recruitment.
Other parents in the case faced different outcomes. Some pleaded not guilty, while others negotiated plea deals. Prosecutors said investigations were still expanding, with more suspects under review.
Huffman was later sentenced to 14 days in jail, one year of supervised release, a $30,000 fine and 250 hours of community service. She reported to prison in October 2019 and was released after serving her sentence.
Her case became one of the first resolved in the scandal and set the tone for later trials and plea deals.
After completing her sentence, Huffman slowly returned to acting. She continued to work in television and film, showing up in projects like When They See Us and The Thirteenth Wife: Escaping Polygamy.
In recent years, she has also appeared in new TV roles, including a part in Foxâs medical drama Doc, where she played Dr. Joan Ridley in Season 2.
She has also signed new agency representation and taken on additional television projects, signaling a steady return to Hollywood work.
âGreyâs Anatomyâ Star Announces Split From Husband After More Than 20 Years of Marriage
Grey's Anatomy alum Chyler Leigh announced her split from her husband Nathan West on a recent podcast experience.
In a Tuesday, May 12 episode of the podcast Books That Changed My Life, Leigh revealed to host Chris Collins that her relationship with West had "reached a point where it was just time" to "let it go."
"Even after such a long time, we'd been together â it would have been 26 years this year?" she said. "It's amicable and we're co-parenting, we're doing all the things that we can. But [we] just hit a point where it was like, 'OK, what you want and what I want aren't really lining up anymore. And I'd rather us be on good terms and us not harbor the resentment and the anger... all that stuff.'"
She continued, "It's not worth it. And when it becomes so abundantly apparent and the kids are picking up on it and the whole family, it just shifts the mood and the dynamic of everything."
Leigh and West met in 1999 at an audition and got married in 2002. They share three children together.
Leigh portrayed Dr. Lexie Grey on Grey's Anatomy from 2007 to 2012 and reprised the role briefly in season 17. Leigh is currently starring in the Hallmark drama The Way Homealongside Evan Williams, Sadie Laflamme-Snow, and Andie MacDowell. The show will soon wrap up its fourth season which premiered in April 2026.
1988 Soft Rock Hit, Ranked Among 'All-Time Hottest Songs of Summer,' Became a Timeless Anthem of Lost Love
Summer love doesn't always last...but those fleeting romances are great for inspiration when it comes to writing a hit song. One of the best examples? Richard Marx's smash '80s hit, "Endless Summer Nights."
Released as the third single from Marx's self-titled debut album in January of 1988, "Endless Summer Nights" was written as a "theme to the summer love you cannot have because you go your separate ways in the fall," according to Billboard, which ranked the tune #6 on their list of "All-Time Hottest Songs of Summer."
But in real life, Marx actually ended up marrying the woman who inspired "Endless Summer Nights" (they later divorced).
"'Endless Summer Nights' was an old song, written around the same time that I wrote 'Should Have Known Better,'" Marx explained in a video commentary on his official YouTube channel.
"So I was maybe 20, 21 when I wrote 'Endless Summer Nights,'" he continued. "Actually, I know I was 21 because it was soon after I started dating Cynthia [Rhodes, his future wife]. And a lot of people, because of the title, they think it's a song about present day summertime, but it's really set in the winter. It's a song about a summer gone by...and it's a sad song, 'cause we're not together in the song."
Indeed, the lyrics say it all:
"Summer came and left without a warning / All at once I looked and you were gone / And now you're looking back at me / Searching for a way that we can be / Like we were before"
Clearly, the song was relatable to plenty of lovelorn listeners, since it peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. In a 2021 interview with Forbes, Marx opened up about how the success of his first album took him by surprise.
âI felt really good about 'Endless Summer Nights' and 'Should've Known Better,' because those had been on my demo tape for a couple of years, even though they'd been rejected by everybody," he recalled. "I was just hoping that it wouldn't be a thing where I got dropped after my first album and had to start from scratch again. Once I sold a few hundred thousand copies, everything else was gravy. But then to go triple platinum, crossing genres, having a number one rock track, and then going into the pop chart and MTV really blowing me up â it was all a hurricane of good fortune.â
Lionel Richie discovered Richard Marx when he was still in high schoolMarx was just a high school student with dreams of making it big as a musician when Lionel Richie got ahold of his demo tape. The star was so impressed with what he heard that he called the teenager, telling him to finish school and head straight to Los Angeles (he even spoke to Marx's parents about his career when they visited L.A.).
âTo have the stamp of potential approval from someone like Lionel Richie at the time, it was just massive,â Marx said.
âHe ended up spending his evening post-show on the floor of my parents' hotel room talking to them for over an hour â basically, make them feel more comfortable about their little boy going out to L.A. and the music biz," he continued. "I know how much that meant to my parents. Again, I could tell story after story about the kind of guy Lionel Richie is. That tells you everything about him.â

Costco's 'Comfy' Packable Chair Has Everything You Need for Enjoying the OutdoorsâLiterally
I love being outside as much as the next personâfresh air, crackling campfires, lazy afternoons by the water, all of it. But if there's one thing I absolutely do not love, it's the idea that enjoying nature has to mean being uncomfortable. Iâm just not subscribing to the whole "roughing it builds character" mindset. You know what builds character? Actually getting out there in the first place, even if I happen to be doing it from a foldable chair with cup holders.
That's right, I fully believe the outdoors can be appreciated without sacrificing basic comfort, which is why packable chairs, air mattresses and any gear that makes camping or lounging easier are non-negotiables for me. Call me high-maintenance, call me whatever you wantâI'll just be over here comfortably sipping my coffee while everyone else fights over rocks and tree stumps. If that somehow disqualifies me from being a "real" outdoor enthusiast, I'm perfectly fine with that.

I'm really loving a lot of the outdoor offerings at Costco these days, like the Ninja FlexFlame 5-in-1 Cooking System Bundle, which makes grilling (or cooking whatever else you want on your patio) so, so easy. Colin Jost and Travis Kelce Joke About Being the 'Less Famous Person' in Their Relationships
Colin Jost and Travis Kelce think they have one thing in common regarding their romantic relationships
The two bonded over having two very famous partners, Scarlett Johansson andTaylor Swift, when Jost appeared on Kelce's podcastNew Heightson Wednesday, May 13.
"How nice is it to be the less famous person in the relationship?" Kelce joked with Jost. To which Jost responded, "Huge relief. Really."
Jost then added, "It's really funny because I feel like ... I'm probably almost approached more because she's less approachable. So, you know what I mean? Because I'm on TV, I have like a lesser ... people are just like, I'm in their living room, so they're just like, 'Hey what's up man, how's it going?'"
Jost and Johansson have been married since 2020 and the two first started dating back in 2017. They welcomed their first child together, Cosmo, in August 2021.
As Jost continued to admire his wife's success, Kelce shouted out all the "plus ones out there."
Jost continued, "The other thing I noticed too is that if we're ever ordering food, you know the order is not going to be right. Because if we like go to like go buy a sandwich or something, she'll order and the person will recognize her and then doesn't write down anything about the sandwich. Completely distracted, all the ingredients are wrong. We'll open the sandwich and nothing is [right]. It's really funny. It's like bread and just, like, a pickle."
Jost then noted he feels he and Kelce could bond over their experiences with their partners with Kelce agreeing, saying, "I'm on the team. I'm here for it."
Kelce is currently engaged to Swift after they had first gone public with their relationship in 2023. Kelce had previously commented on navigating his relationship with Swift while dealing with paparazzi.
"Whenever Iâm with her, it feels like weâre just regular people. When there is not a camera on us, weâre just two people that are in love," he told GQ back in 2025.
Costco Shoppers Are Racing to Grab This Ultimate Home Organization Item Before It Sells Out
Life feels busier than ever right now, and honestly, most households are running like mini businesses at this point. Between work schedules, school events, grocery runs, appointments, sports practices and trying to figure out what's for dinner every night, keeping everything organized can feel impossible. Sticky notes on the fridge and random phone reminders are no longer cutting it for families trying to stay on top of daily life without forgetting something important.
That's why smart home organization has exploded recently. People are looking for ways to simplify routines, reduce stress and create systems that actually work for the entire household. Shared digital calendars, meal-planning tools, and chore-tracking have become part of modern home life because families want a central place where everything lives. The goal now is convenience, mixed with connection and technology, which is finally making that possible in a way that feels easy rather than overwhelming.
Skylight 27-Inch Calendar Max Classic Bundle, $599.99 At CostcoCostco
That's exactly where the Skylight 27-Inch Calendar Max Classic Bundle from Costco comes in. Priced at $599.99, this massive 27-inch touchscreen HD smart display feels less like a gadget and more like a full family command center. It's designed to keep schedules, meal planning, chores and reminders all in one organized place while still looking sleek enough to blend into modern kitchens and living spaces.
One of the biggest things that stands out is the display's size. The 27-inch touchscreen makes it easy for everyone in the household to actually see what's happening throughout the week without crowding around a tiny screen. Whether it's upcoming appointments, sports schedules or grocery lists, everything feels accessible and easy to manage.
Related: The $25 Kitchen Organizer That Makes Your Under-Sink Cabinet Actually Usable
The smart features are where this system really shines. Beyond just functioning as a calendar, the display also includes chore charts, shared lists and meal planning tools that help households stay coordinated. Families can assign responsibilities, organize routines and create structure without needing multiple apps or paper planners scattered across the house.
The included six months of Skylight Plus adds even more features, including screensavers, family photos, videos, rewards and Sidekick Magic Import functionality. That extra personalization helps the display feel less corporate and more like an interactive part of the home. Instead of staring at a boring calendar, families can turn it into a digital hub filled with memories and day-to-day organization.
Another underrated feature is the included white snap frame and additional discount code, giving buyers more flexibility to customize the setup. The design itself stays clean and minimal, which matters because nobody wants a giant, ugly screen dominating their kitchen wall.
What makes this smart calendar bundle hit especially hard right now is how much people value convenience and routine. Families are constantly looking for ways to reduce stress and streamline communication at home, and this feels like one of those products that actually helps simplify daily life instead of adding more distractions.
For busy households trying to stay connected, organized and on schedule, this smart display feels like the future of home management wrapped into one oversized touchscreen.

49 Years Ago Today, the King of All Media Made His Broadcasting Debut
On May 13, 1977, a 23-year-old Howard Stern stepped into a small studio at WRNW in Briarcliff Manor, New York, and began his first professional radio shift.Â
That day, he worked as a disc jockey at a modest progressive rock station, playing music, reading advertisements, and giving basic updates like weather reports, per Cord Cutters News. It was a simple job, but it became the starting point of a broadcasting career that would later reshape American radio.
Fresh out of Boston University with a communications degree, Stern entered WRNW with no national fame, no shock value reputation, and no syndication deals. What he did have was curiosity and a growing sense of how radio could sound if the host brought more personality into it. WRNW gave him that space, and he used it immediately.

At first, his duties were standard. But even in those early shifts, Stern stood out. He began adding humor and unexpected commentary into routine segments. Listeners and station staff noticed that his delivery felt different from that of typical DJs of the time. That early style would become the foundation of his later identity in radio.
WRNW was a small progressive rock station in Briarcliff Manor, and it wasnât designed to create national stars. Still, it became the first professional platform where Stern could experiment on-air. His early role included spinning records and reading scripts, but he quickly started shaping his own voice behind the microphone.
During this period, Stern was still learning how far he could push boundaries. His time at WRNW was described as a âcritical stepping stone,â allowing him to build confidence and test ideas that would later define his career. The station may have been local, but it gave him real broadcasting experience that classroom learning could not match.
After WRNW, Stern moved through several radio stations, including WCCC in Hartford, WWWW in Detroit and WWDC in Washington, D.C. Each stop helped him refine his delivery and build a stronger audience. By the early 1980s, he was already known for blending humor, personality and controversial topics into his shows.
At WWDC, he also teamed up with Robin Quivers, a partnership that became one of radioâs most recognizable. Together, they built a morning show that mixed comedy, interviews and social commentary in a way that stood out in a crowded radio market.
Sternâs early experiment at WRNW eventually led him to larger stations and national recognition. By the mid-1980s, his career took a major turn when he joined WNBC in New York City, and later WXRK, where The Howard Stern Show became a national sensation.
As his audience grew, so did his influence. His show entered syndication in multiple markets, eventually reaching millions of listeners across North America. By the 1990s, Stern had become widely known as the âKing of All Media,â a title that reflected his presence in radio, television, books, and film.
Later in his career, Stern made another major shift by moving his show to Sirius Satellite Radio in 2006, gaining full creative control without traditional broadcast restrictions.Â
Today, nearly five decades after that first WRNW broadcast, Sternâs early start remains a key moment in entertainment history. It was the quiet beginning of a career that would later dominate American talk radio and reshape how personality-driven media is built.

1981 Classic Film With Iconic Heavy Metal Soundtrack Ranked Among Best Rock Movies of All Time
Long before comic-book movies dominated Hollywood, one animated fantasy film fused science fiction, horror and hard rock into a cult phenomenon unlike anything audiences had seen before.
Released in 1981, Heavy Metal, directed by Gerald Potterton, later earned recognition as one of the best rock movies of all time according to Ultimate Classic Rock, thanks in large part to its unforgettable soundtrack packed with some of the biggest rock and heavy metal artists of the era.
Inspired by the adult illustrated magazine Heavy Metal, the film combined multiple surreal and often violent animated stories into one overarching sci-fi fantasy narrative. While the movie's striking visuals made it stand out, the soundtrack became just as legendary as the film itself.
One of the standout tracks was "Heavy Metal" by Sammy Hagar, which played over the movie's opening sequence and immediately established its rebellious, high-energy tone.
The soundtrack also featured major rock acts including Black Sabbath, Blue Ăyster Cult, Journey, Cheap Trick and Devo, helping transform the movie into a full-blown rock experience.
Many of the songs became closely associated with the film's identity, particularly because the music wasnt treated as simple background noise. Instead, the soundtrack actively shaped the movie's atmosphere, giving different sequences their own emotional and sonic identity.
At the time, Heavy Metal stood apart from traditional animated films because it was unapologetically aimed at adult audiences. Its blend of fantasy, sexuality, violence and rock music made it controversial in some circles but deeply appealing to fans looking for something edgier and more experimental.
"We based [Heavy Metal] on the "Fall of the House of Usher,'" said Potterton in a 2015 interview. "I think it was an Edgar Allan Poe thing. They often use it when things burn and blow up at the end. It's a kind of ongoing thing. Everything blows up when the house blows up, including the evil. There obviously will be more wars â we suggest that â but we wanted to uplift it a bit at the end. There are so many films now where there is no happiness at all. It's just death and destruction, A to B."
Over the years, the movie developed a passionate cult following, especially among rock and metal fans who connected with its soundtrack and rebellious spirit.
The film's influence also extended beyond cinema, helping inspire later generations of adult animation, fantasy storytelling and music-driven filmmaking.
More than 40 years later, Heavy Metal remains a one-of-a-kind cult classic, one where the soundtrack is just as iconic as the story itself.
1979 Box Office Smash That Launched a Blockbuster Franchise Paid Its Cast in Beer
When all else fails, give âem beer. That might as well have been the unofficial motto of George Millerâs directorial debut, which was made on a shoestring budget of just $350,000 â a production so lean the closest thing to currency the crew had on hand was lager.
The result was Mad Max (1979), a raw, chaotic Australian action film that was about as far from a polished Hollywood production as you could get. With cast and crew working under makeshift conditions, the film was barely held together at times. To save money, Miller spent a year editing the movie alone in his kitchen while his producing partner, Byron Kennedy, handled sound from the living room of their rented apartment.
View this post on InstagramAt the time, Miller was still working full-time as an emergency room doctor, developing the film in his spare time. He even used his medical earnings to help fund production. To stretch the budget further, the team enlisted a real-life biker gang, The Vigilantes, who reportedly agreed to appear as extras in exchange for beer. According to Far Outmagazine, one truck driver was even paid $50 and a case of beer to run over a motorbike during filming.
Mel Gibson, who would go on to play the titular road warrior, landed the role almost by accident. While giving a friend a ride to an audition, Gibson showed up bruised from a rugby game and a bar fight. The crew initially photographed him as a possible background âfreakâ before realizing he might be perfect for the lead role.
What followed was one of the most surprising success stories in film history. The movie became a global breakout hit, earning more than $100 million worldwide and, for a time, holding the title of most profitable film ever made until The Blair Witch Project surpassed it decades later. It also launched a franchise that would span five films and counting.
With all five entries written and directed by Miller himself, the series has remained firmly under his creative control. Long before Hollywood success, Miller drew inspiration from his years as an ER doctor, where the road trauma he witnessed would later shape the violent postapocalyptic world of Mad Max. A real-world foundation that ultimately became one of cinemaâs most influential action franchises.
Mad Max is streaming for free on Tubi.

63 Years Ago Today, '60s Music Icon Walked Out of Hit TV ShowÂ
In 1963, Bob Dylan walked out of The Ed Sullivan Show during rehearsals after a disagreement over censorship.Â
The moment happened at a time when Dylan was still unknown to most Americans, but it quickly became one of the most talked-about early turning points in his career.
According to This Day in History, the issue began when CBS Standards and Practices rejected the song Dylan planned to perform. The network raised concerns about âTalkinâ John Birch Paranoid Blues,â a satirical folk song that criticized political extremism. Instead of changing the song or choosing another one, Dylan refused to appear.
At the time, the planned TV performance was supposed to be a major national breakthrough for the young folk singer. Instead, it never aired.

The controversy unfolded during rehearsals for The Ed Sullivan Show, the highest-rated variety program in the United States at the time. Dylan had already auditioned the song without issue, but CBS executives stepped in before the live broadcast.
During the dispute, producer Bob Precht recalled the moment clearly:
âI explained the situation to Bob and asked him if he wanted to do something else, and Bob, quite appropriately, said âNo, this is what I want to do. If I canât play my song, Iâd rather not appear on the show.'â
The networkâs concern centered on possible legal risks tied to lyrics that mocked the John Birch Society. The song used humor and exaggerated imagery to criticize Cold War political fear.
Rather than compromise, Dylan left the production.
The decision became public quickly and spread across entertainment media. Ed Sullivan himself later criticized the networkâs handling of the situation in interviews, adding pressure to CBS Standards and Practices for blocking the performance.
The walkout also shaped Dylanâs early reputation. At the time, he was still building his name in the Greenwich Village folk scene and had not yet released his breakthrough album The Freewheelinâ Bob Dylan.
Although the television appearance was canceled, Dylanâs career did not slow down. Instead, attention around the incident added to growing interest in his music.
Shortly after, his second album The Freewheelinâ Bob Dylan was released in 1963. It included âBlowinâ in the Windâ and âA Hard Rainâs a-Gonna Fall,â songs that became widely known through performances and covers by other artists.
A cover of âBlowinâ in the Windâ by Peter, Paul and Mary helped bring Dylanâs songwriting to a national audience. By the end of the summer, he was performing at major cultural events, including the March on Washington.
Dylanâs early work was part of a growing folk movement tied to civil rights and anti-war messages. His lyrics stood out because they combined simple language with strong social ideas.
More than six decades after the 1963 incident, Bob Dylan remains active in music and public life.
Dylan will turn 85 on May 24, 2026. He continues to perform live and release archival material while maintaining a busy touring schedule across the United States.
Dylan is in the middle of a 2026 U.S. tour with multiple stops across the Midwest, Northeast, South and West Coast. Recent performances include shows in Texas and Mississippi, with upcoming concerts planned in cities such as Chicago, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Boston, Atlanta, Nashville and New York.
Dylan has also remained present in the broader culture through collaborations and media attention. His influence continues to appear in music discussions, biopics and new releases that revisit his work.

This Classic '60s Rock Song Was Banned for an Unexpected Reason
Plenty of hit songs have been pulled from the radio through the years, but one â60s rock anthem was temporarily banned for a much more unexpected reason.
Released in 1965, âMy Generationâ quickly became one of The Whoâs most iconic songs. Itâs a loud, rebellious anthem that captured the frustration and energy of young people during the height of Britainâs swinging â60s.
Today, the track is widely considered one of the greatest rock songs ever recorded. It has earned spots on countless âbest songs of all timeâ lists, including Rolling Stoneâs famed 500 Greatest Songs ranking, and has since been recognized by both the Grammy Hall of Fame and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

But despite its legendary status now, the song almost never made it onto British airwaves. At the time of its release, some believed the BBC may have objected to the songâs rebellious themes or the increasingly chaotic live performances associated with the band, which famously included smashing instruments onstage.Â
But instead, the broadcaster reportedly took issue with something far more specificâlead singer Roger Daltreyâs vocal stutter throughout the track.
The BBC allegedly worried the repeated stammering could be viewed as offensive to people who stuttered in real life, leading the network to temporarily ban the song.
The band strongly pushed back against that accusation, stating that the style simply served as a musical device to emphasize the angst at the center of the song. They also pointed to older blues musicians who had used similar vocal techniques long before My Generation, like artist John Lee Hooker.
âChris picked up on a stutter on my vocal on the second demo, so I played him John Lee Hookerâs âStuttering Blues.â Roger had been experimenting with stuttering on stage,â lead singer Pete Townshend wrote in his 2012 autobiography Who Am I. âBefore I completed the third demo we experimented until the stutter became exaggerated and obvious.â
And Daltry seemed to agree: âIt wasnât a stutterâŠto me, it wasnât a sign of weakness. It wasnât a slip of the tongue,â he declared in his memoirThanks A Lot Mr. Kibblewhite: My Story.
Ironically, the controversy may have only made the song more popular. As My Generation gained traction on pirate radio stations and in underground music circles, the BBC eventually lifted the ban.

Home organization has officially become part of the lifestyle conversation, and honestly, people are no longer hiding their storage solutions. The days of bulky cabinets and plain shelving units that feel cold or overly functional are disappearing fast. Now people want furniture that actually looks good while solving everyday clutter problems. Kitchens, dining rooms and even entryways are becoming extensions of personal style, and storage pieces are finally getting the attention they deserve.
One of the biggest trends taking over right now is vertical storage. People are maximizing small spaces while still trying to create that clean, cozy, elevated look seen all over social media. Tall cabinets, warm wood tones and arched furniture designs are dominating modern farmhouse and contemporary interiors because they make a room feel intentional instead of overcrowded. The right storage piece no longer just holds your stuff. It changes the entire vibe of a room.
Bestier 71-Inch Tall Arched Pantry Cabinet With Doors & Drawers, $229.99 at TargetTarget
Shop It!That's exactly why the Bestier 71-Inch Tall Arched Pantry Cabinet With Doors & Drawers from Target is getting attention. At $229.99, this tall kitchen storage cabinet feels like one of those pieces that instantly upgrades a space without requiring a full remodel. The arched top design immediately stands out, giving it the high-end look people usually expect from much more expensive furniture.
The cabinet combines style with serious functionality. One of the biggest highlights is the amount of storage packed into its slim footprint. With a generous 15.75-inch depth, this freestanding pantry cabinet easily holds larger kitchen essentials like cereal boxes, baking supplies, serving platters and even small appliances without feeling cramped. That extra depth matters because many narrow cabinets sacrifice usable space for appearance, but this one manages to balance both.

The adjustable shelving is another feature that makes this storage cabinet practical for real-life use. The three height-adjustable shelves allow people to customize the interior depending on their needs. Whether you're organizing pantry goods, displaying décor pieces or storing office supplies, the flexibility makes it easy to adapt the cabinet to different rooms around the house.
The two oversized drawers also help separate clutter while keeping everything accessible. From utensils and table linens to snacks and miscellaneous household items, the added drawer storage creates a cleaner and more organized look overall. The gold handles paired with the vertical stripe drawer detailing give the cabinet a modern farmhouse aesthetic that feels trendy without trying too hard.
What really makes this piece stand out, though, is its versatility. While it's designed as a pantry cabinet, it works just as well in dining rooms, living spaces, home offices or even entryways. The durable engineered wood construction and natural oak finish allow it to blend into almost any décor style while still making a statement.
For anyone trying to create a cleaner, warmer and more elevated home setup, this arched pantry cabinet feels like one of those furniture finds that instantly transform a room while solving storage problems.
