Hilo

This town sits on the windward side of The Big Island. It’s the largest city in the area and also the most affordable in the state. It has one of the most walkable downtown areas of any other Hawaiian city, and low tourism, so it stays relaxed. It’s also a nature lover's heaven with waterfalls and rainforests to explore. 

It does get more rain than other areas, which can be considered a trade-off. Still, if the humidity and varying weather aren’t deal breakers for you, then Hilo could be an affordable place to settle down in paradise.

Waimae (Kamuela)

Waimae on the Big Island is a small town with more cattle than people. But living near one of the oldest ranches in the United States doesn’t mean you’re cut off. Waimae has its own hospital (not found everywhere) and is an extremely walkable town. 

If humidity isn’t your thing, Waimae is higher in elevation and cooler than other cities in the area. You’ll still have easy access to the beach by car, so you won’t feel like you’re missing out.

The North Shore

O’ahu is one of the most gorgeous places in the entire world. From Waikiki Beach to Pearl Harbor to the stunning North Shore, O’ahu is truly like no other place in the world. If you’re the type of person who loves being outdoors, the North Shore is for you. Activities like hiking, swimming, kayaking, fishing, surfing, scuba diving, and so much more are available. 

In addition, the sense of community on The North Shore is incredible. The Polynesian Cultural Center is located in the area. Plus, you’ll find food trucks, shave ice, and a laid-back community of people who are all about living slowly and mindfully.

Affordability

It’s worth noting that if you want to retire in Hawaii, you’ll need to have a decent amount of monthly income. The cost of living on the islands is the highest in the U.S. In addition, food and gas prices can give anyone from less expensive states sticker shock when they first arrive.

The interior is a jewel-toned dream of frescoes and intricate woodwork that feels like a Parisian manor. "Every single thing is so well thought out," Dana Harrel, VP of Disney Live Entertainment, told us. "This shows that’s the Disney difference."

But the real draw is the characters. This is character dining, but with a twist that fans have been waiting years for. For the first time, princesses like Belle, Aurora, Mulan and Ariel appear in their "provincial" or "adventure" outfits rather than formal ballgowns. "This is not really a retelling of the story, but it’s a happy ever after times," den Dulk noted. Seeing Ariel in her blue "town" dress or Mulan in her warrior-inspired garb makes the interaction feel more like a visit with a friend than a formal audience.

The chefs here see themselves as storytellers, not just cooks. Cécile Lequeux, Director of F&B Product, shared that the culinary team "review the stories... write culinary books, they re-watch the movies several times, just to be sure to offer exactly what we need."

This translates to a menu that balances sophistication with narrative. "Our chefs... they put their heart together to re-translate the story... into every product they develop," Lequeux added. Highlights include a Red-Headed Sea Bream with kaffir lime and vanilla sauce (a nod to Ariel) and a Green Salmon with Quinoa. For dessert, seasonal tartlets are served on custom china that you won't find anywhere else with the "RV" crest embossed directly into the porcelain.

While the menu is a narrative in itself, the true "Disney difference" is in the execution. During my visit, I started with the Bluefin tuna tataki, which was perfectly balanced by a pineapple and Sichuan peppercorn chutney. For the main, I opted for the slow-cooked beef, a melt-in-your-mouth cut served with a savory Comté AOP potato pancake. We finished with a Marc de Champagne frozen soufflé that was as light as the Art Nouveau decor surrounding us.

Even with the high-level French technique, the room never loses that classic Disney fairytale energy. Between the magical decor details and the circulating princesses, the atmosphere feels wonderfully whimsical. On Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's eighth wedding anniversary, attention has turned back to Meghan Markle’s bridal look and the subtle detail in her veil that many fans may have missed.

The couple wed on May 19, 2018, at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle in the United Kingdom. Nearly 2 billion people watched the televised event, and over 600 guests attended reported History.

With all those eyes on Meghan, every element of her Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy ensemble was scrutinized. PEOPLE Magazine reported the gown had an "open bateau neckline and sculpted waist. The train flowed in soft, round folds cushioned by an underskirt in triple silk organza." She wore a bandeau tiara loaned to her by the late Queen Elizabeth.

But one element of her bridal look appeared to be overlooked. Keller worked with the Duchess of Sussex to incorporate a touching tribute to Prince Harry's family within her veil, which took 4,000 hours of stitchwork to represent each of the 53 countries that make up the Commonwealth.

According to Vanity Fair, who spoke to the dress's designer, Meghan wanted to tell a "story" with her ensemble. The result was a carefully crafted design filled with symbolic details.

“[She] felt like she was bringing an element of each of those countries down the aisle with her. So that her new role—and that bridge to the new role—was captured in what she was wearing,” Keller said. “For both of us, we felt it was a really beautiful signature, and I think even Prince Harry was just thrilled at the idea that we really tried to capture something for everyone in that service.”

Additionally, Meghan paid homage to her and Harry's first date by asking the designer to sew a piece of the dress she wore for their first meeting into her wedding gown.

Keller explained, “We basically sewed it into the hem of the wedding dress, so she was the only one who knew that it was there. It was a little blue gingham check. It was the perfect personal memento that was secretly hidden inside the dress.”

Along with Harry, his father, King Charles, was also "interested" in the veil's meaning. Keller told Vanity Fair, “King Charles was just in awe of the dress and the [veil] embroidery, and he asked me about it while we were waiting inside the nave. He was really very interested, actually, in all the different motifs and the floral representations.”

Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome has now officially reached North America following the ongoing outbreak tied to the MV Hondius cruise ship.

On Sunday, May 17, Canadian health officials confirmed that a passenger who traveled aboard the ship tested positive for hantavirus, marking the first confirmed North American case connected to the outbreak.

According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, one of four Canadians who returned home from the cruise last week initially received a “presumptive positive” result before additional testing confirmed the infection. "One individual’s sample was confirmed positive for hantavirus," the agency said in a statement.

The patient, who is in their 70s and from Yukon, is currently hospitalized in Victoria alongside another traveler from the ship who tested negative. Officials said all four Canadian passengers are now in isolation.

So far, there have been 10 confirmed or probable cases linked to the cruise, including three deaths. Health officials have emphasized that the situation is very different from the early days of COVID-19, despite inevitable public concern surrounding another quarantine-related outbreak.

The outbreak specifically involves the Andes strain of hantavirus, which is notable because it is the only known strain capable of spreading from person to person, though experts say transmission still primarily occurs through close contact.

Meanwhile, American passengers from the cruise continue to be monitored. As of May 14, sixteen travelers were transferred to the National Quarantine Unit in Nebraska, while two others remain under observation at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Roughly 36 additional Americans across several states are also being monitored from home after possible exposure.

According to the CDC, none of the Americans being monitored are currently symptomatic or have tested positive.

The summer of 2026 features some of the publishing world’s favorite authors, including Patchett and Moriarty, but this year’s anticipated releases also reflect a larger shift in the literary world. Based on what Goodreads readers are most excited to read this summer, 2026 may become the summer of general fiction.

With the success of authors like Rebecca Yarros continuing to dominate romantasy bestseller lists, the genre is clearly here to stay. But if Goodreads’ Most Anticipated Books of the Summer list is any indication, general fiction is making a major comeback — and readers are more than ready for it.

In 1994, Pulp Fiction was one of the biggest movies of the year. The Oscar-winning Quentin Tarantino crime drama featured a star-studded cast with John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, Uma Thurman, and more. But the star power wasn’t limited to the cast. The film’s soundtrack was a major success, featuring music from everyone from Chuck Berry to Urge Overkill and hitting No. 21 on the Billboard 200 album chart in the fall of 1994.

In April 2026, Paste magazine named the Pulp Fiction soundtrack the “greatest movie soundtrack of all time.” Pulp Fiction outranked The Graduate, Saturday Night Fever, Purple Rain, and more on the list of 50 films.

“One of the reasons Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction soundtrack works so well is that it lets us know where in this world we are and who we are dealing with,” the outlet noted. “Only Quentin Tarantino would hear surf rock pioneer Dick Dale and his Del-Tones’ hang-10 version of Eastern Mediterranean traditional ‘Misirlou’ and instantly associate those sounds with Ennio Morricone, Sergio Leone and Spaghetti Westerns.”

Pulp Fiction didn’t commission a traditional film score, but Tarantino’s hand-picked song selections became a pivotal part of the hit movie. In addition to the opener “Misirlou,” songs featured on the Pulp Fiction soundtrack included "Jungle Boogie" by Kool & the Gang, "Son of a Preacher Man” by Dusty Springfield, “Let’s Stay Together by Al Green, and “Flowers on the Wall” by the Statler Brothers.

In the booklet to The Tarantino Connection, the filmmaker noted that he often goes through his own record collection to find inspiration for his movies. Of Pulp Fiction in particular, Tarantino added, “Having ‘Misirlou’ as your opening credits is just so intense it just says, you are watching an epic, you are watching this big old movie, just sit back. It’s so loud and blaring at you, a gauntlet is thrown down that the movie has to live up to; it’s like saying, ‘We're big!’”

Tarantino added, “One of the things about using music in movies that's so cool, is the fact that if you do it right, if you use the right song, in the right scene… when you do it right and you hit it right, then the effect is you can never really hear this song again without thinking about that image from the movie.”

‘Pulp Fiction’ ‘reinvented the film soundtrack.’

The Pulp Fiction soundtrack has been praised by film reviewers for three decades. In 2014, Varietynoted that the iconic soundtrack “effortlessly mixes musical styles the way the film blends genres,” adding, “The multi-platinum album reinvigorated surf-rock to the extent that Del-Fi Records released a competing compilation a year later titled 'Pulp Surfin’.”

In honor of the 30th anniversary of Pulp Fiction in 2024, Grammy.com proclaimed that the movie “reinvented the film soundtrack.” “Pulp Fiction and its soundtrack defined director Quentin Tarantino’s knack for music in film, to the point where the combined efforts of him and his music supervisors are synonymous with his auteurship,” the outlet noted.

Each dress hits just a little bit above the knee, so they're not too short, and they are nice and flow-y, which is great for the hot weather.

To switch it up, I packed one pair of shorts and one skirt. Then, I picked two tops that could match both of them. That way, it creates four outfit options in total. The shorts are a pair of tan linen shorts, and the skirt is a bit longer and has a fun design. Both of these bottoms offer something completely different than the other. Then, to keep it interesting on the top as well, I went with a white bodysuit and a structured tan t-shirt. Both of these will create a different vibe when paired with the shorts or the skirt.

Now, with all of these items packed, we have 7 possible outfits to wear during the day.

Evening Options Modest enough for the Pantheon, but breezy enough for the streets.

If you travel like me, not every single night is going to be a full-on "dress to the nines" type of moment. A lot of times, I end up getting dinner after trekking around the city all day, wearing the same outfit for the entire day. However, on a 7-day trip, there are probably going to be a few times where you're going to want to freshen up and go out for a nice dinner.

For these instances, I decided to pack three different dresses to wear. All three are maxi-dresses, but they are completely different styles. I always try to aim for different color palettes, different materials, and different shapes when picking just a few select pieces for evening wear. These dresses could also be worn during the day if you're visiting somewhere like the Vatican.

Keep Your Shoes To A Minimum One for the ruins, one for the restaurant, and one for the hotel. Leave the heels at home!

One of the biggest mistakes that I see people make when packing is bringing too many pairs of shoes. I know it's hard to choose your favorites, but you need to be realistic. For Rome, I knew that I would definitely need a good pair of walking shoes. For that, I always stick with my plain white pair of Dr. Scholl's sneakers. They are incredibly supportive, but they also look stylish with any outfit. I will wear those on the plane, since they are very bulky and not easy to pack.

Then, I wanted to go for two pairs of shoes that could easily be worn during the day or night, and are still comfortable to walk around in. I went with a pair of sleek nude sandals and a pair of white ballet flats. Both shoes have a solid arch support, so I know I can walk a long distance in either of them if I needed to. All of these shoes also match every single clothing item that I packed in my carry-on, making it super easy to mix and match throughout the week.

Toiletries and Accessories Don't Need To Dominate Your Suitcase The 'small but mighty' essentials: a silk scarf for churches, a hair straightener, and my undergarments.

One last mistake that I see people make is filling their suitcase with way too many unnecessary toiletries or a surplus of accessories. Let's be real here: do you really need every single face serum, eye cream, and hair product to get through a week? I only travel with a few basics when it comes to toiletries, and my skin and hair never suffers.

All you need is shampoo, conditioner and body wash (if your hotel won't provide any), deodorant, a tooth brush, toothpaste, face wash, and face lotion. For the hair and body soap, I only ever bring solid bars–that's what I use on a daily basis anyway, and they are super easy to travel with. For sunscreen, I always buy a large container when I arrive at my destination.

Now for accessories. Don't opt for large hats, chunky jewelry or extra purses. Instead, be selective. For this trip to Rome, I chose two silk scarves as my main accessories. These can be worn on my head, around my neck, or can even be tied around my waist. They are incredibly lightweight, but add so much variety to each outfit.

Everything else, like electronics and medication, will go in my personal item. Even with all of this packed, I still will have a good amount of room to buy souvenirs.

Additional Tips for Packing Like a Pro When in Rome

• The 'Nasoni' Secret: Rome is famous for its nasoni—curved public drinking fountains with ice-cold, potable water. Instead of buying plastic bottles, pack a collapsible reusable water bottle. It takes up zero space when empty and will save you about €20 a week in tourist-trap water prices.
• Thwart the Pickpockets: Rome’s crowded areas (like the Trevi Fountain or the Metro) are hotspots for pickpockets. Pack a small crossbody bag with a front-facing zipper, and consider a locking clip for the pull. It’s a pro move that keeps your peace of mind intact while you're focused on the art.
• The Vatican 'No-Go' List: The Vatican Museums have a strict security check similar to an airport. Leave any large umbrellas, tripods or sharp metal objects (like heavy-duty sewing kits or large scissors) at the hotel. If they’re too big, you’ll have to check them at the cloakroom, which can add an hour to your exit.
• Linen is Your BFF: Linen or hemp fabrics are the true champions of the Roman humidity. They dry in minutes if you have to do a "sink wash," and they actually reflect the heat better than a standard cotton bodysuit.
• Universal Power Play: Don't forget that Italy uses Type L or Type C outlets. Pack a multi-country universal adapter that includes at least two USB ports. This allows you to charge your phone and your portable power bank (a must for all those GPS-heavy walks) using just one outlet in your hotel room.

The film's official website describes Love & Mercy as alternating between Wilson's production of his watershed 1966 LP Pet Sounds and his treatment under Landy.

On May 18, 1986, CBS aired a star-studded remake of Stagecoach that brought together an unforgettable lineup of country music legends and television stars. Leading the cast were Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Waylon Jennings, four artists whose friendship and musical chemistry would soon become even more famous through their work together as The Highwaymen.

The television film was a remake of the classic western Stagecoach, a story that had already earned an important place in Hollywood history through John Wayne’s breakthrough role in the original 1939 version. The 1986 adaptation gave the familiar tale a distinctly country music flavor, thanks to its unusually packed cast of Nashville icons.

Alongside Cash, Nelson, 93, Kristofferson and Jennings were June Carter Cash, John Carter Cash, John Schneider, Jessi Colter, David Allan Coe and Billy Swan. For country fans, it was a rare chance to see so many familiar voices and personalities sharing the screen in one production.

At the time, all four future Highwaymen members were already established stars individually, each with a major impact on outlaw country and American music. Seeing them appear together in a western felt natural for fans who associated their music with rugged independence, storytelling and the open road.

The film arrived just one year after The Highwaymen officially released their first album together in 1985.

As a fairly typical Millennial, I use “lol” the way the Internet Gods intended: at the end of literally every single text, even though I am rarely, if ever, laughing out loud. Whether I'm sharing a funny meme—an actual laugh-out-loud occasion—or revealing how sad I am after watching a particularly heartbreaking season of The Pitt, if I'm sending you a text, you can bet those three letters will be at the end of it. But, if you do it all the time, then what does adding “lol” to the end of your texts actually mean? And why are we doing it?

Well, according to clinical psychologist Dr. Patricia Dixon, adding "lol" at the end of your messages can mean many things.

“It's having an awareness that sometimes people need a little humor in their life, or need to not take something that could be a serious situation too seriously, or not take themselves too seriously,” Dr. Dixon explains.

"Lol" is versatile. It can be used to communicate intention, to drive a conversation, or just to acknowledge a joke—just like an in-person laugh, which is part of why she believes it's stuck around so long.

“It captures the real-time experience,” the psychologist continues. “What makes it timeless is that it is a reflection of real-time, real-life communication. It helps us to not lose that human-to-human connection.”

In other words, adding "lol" at the end of texts is a reflection of humanity. It also might reveal these 7 traits if you do it all of the time.

Why Do Millennials Use ‘LOL’ So Much?

While Dr. Dixon doesn't have any hard data on the myriad of meanings behind the Millennial usage of “lol,” she does have a theory.

“I think a part of it is a level of coping,” she explains. “They use humor often to cope with whatever struggles or issues that they might be encountering. It's a way to make a serious situation a little less serious.”

Is ‘LOL’ Considered Rude in Texting?

It's safe to say that in 2026, the definition of “lol” has extended far beyond the literal translation of “laugh out loud,” so whether or not it can be considered rude in texting really depends on the context. For example, Dr. Dixon warns that adding “lol” can sometimes be passive-aggressive.

“For myself, I know [there are] times where I'm saying something sharp to someone, but I'll end it with an ‘lol’ in order to soften the poke,” she says, adding, “It can be used in a passive-aggressive way to say something that you really want to say.”

What Does It Mean if You Always Add ‘LOL’ to the End of Your Texts?

According to Dr. Dixon, adding “lol” to the end of a text is a strategy of “impression management.” In a situation that doesn't involve sending a meme or responding to a funny TikTok, a texter will use “lol” to help guide how their main point will be perceived, usually to tone down the intensity or seriousness of the message.

“If you say, ‘I'm doing bad,’ that's a switch where it's on. But if you add that ‘lol,’ it becomes a dimmer,” she explains. “You have more control over how deep you go, or how much you choose to share.”

7 Traits of People Who Always Add ‘LOL’ to the End of Texts, According to a Psychologist1. They worry about how they're perceived

If you find yourself constantly adding an "lol" to texts—even when uncalled for—then it might be a sign that you're worrying about how you're being perceived.

“An ‘lol’ allows me to shift it if [the receiver's] perception becomes something that makes me feel judged or misinterpreted or misunderstood,” Dr. Dixon tells Parade.

2. They have anxiety

“I was telling one of the clinicians that work in my office about how I was going to be talking about this, and she was like, ‘I'm one of those people,’” Dr. Dixon says. “She says that part of it is anxiety management.”

People with anxiety sometimes struggle with post-text regret (i.e., the feeling of dread that comes immediately after pressing "Send"), and adding “lol” can help.

“When she's a bit anxious about something that she's sharing or embarrassed about it, then she adds an ‘lol’ just to ease the anxiety over how the person might take it,” the psychologist shares.

3. They fear oversharing

People who fear oversharing frequently use “lol” as a way to control the conversation when revealing something serious or personal, says Dr. Dixon.

“It's almost like putting on a mask where it's like, ‘I'm giving you a peek at what I'm experiencing and what I'm feeling, but because I'm not certain of how you'll perceive me and I have anxiety about how you may perceive me when I share this information,’” she explains. “The ‘lol’ becomes a mask that almost covers the parts that you don't necessarily want the person to fully see.”

4. They want to be understood

As much as "lol" can be used to protect oneself from delving into sensitive territory via text, it can also be used to clarify intention in a way that can be difficult in a chat. People who want to be understood might break out those three letters to ensure that the receiver knows how to respond.

“A part of it is, ‘I don't want somebody to misunderstand my tone,’” Dr. Dixon explains, adding that these people might use "lol" to mean, “Don't take it too seriously or make it deeper than what it is.”

5. They're empathic

Dr. Dixon also says that empaths tend to use "lol" as a way to level-set with a friend who might be getting overwhelmed.

“They might have something serious that they need to express to their friend, or they want to say to their friend, but they are aware that if it's said in a harsh manner or without some level of lightheartedness, the friend might become overly consumed with whatever comment has been made,” she explains. “There's an empathy part to it—an awareness of how people receive information.”

6. They value connection

Adding this specific text abbreviation at the end of your texts is also a side effect of being a person who “values connection with people,” Dr. Dixon shares.

“They're people who really want to make sure that they are effectively communicating what they mean and what they're saying, so there's a more conscientious effort of wanting to be understood,” she states.

7. They're sarcastic

In my experience, one of the most common uses of "lol" is to convey sarcasm.

“People who share rough information or harsh information in a sarcastic way, if you add the ‘lol,’ it helps people understand, ‘I'm just being sarcastic, I'm not being serious,’” Dr. Dixon explains.

Whether it's a quick "lol" at the end of the message or a follow-up "lol" to be sure that they got the joke, using the phrase when being sarcastic is pretty much required at this point.

The arepas from The Smiling Crocodile are the product of the park’s Colombian born executive chef Camilo Velasco so you know it’s the real deal. Available with either pulled pork or pulled chicken, tender ingredients are loaded into the cheesiest arepa and topped with a punchy avocado salsa and queso fresco. This is hands down one of the best savory snacks in all of the Vacation Kingdom. And it might just be a teaser to the upcoming yummy eats we’ll discover in the park’s Tropical Americas expansion opening in 2027.

The park’s signature restaurant, Tiffins, is an unrivaled splurge meal at Walt Disney World. The restaurant itself is stunning, with décor and artwork inspired and sourced from the many exploration trips Walt Disney Imagineering took around the world. But it’s not only a feast for the eyes, its everchanging menu is a fitting celebration of adventure and exploration.

This applauded dessert needs no introduction. Nomad Lounge, next door to Tiffins, is a favorite for those in the know looking for a cozy retreat during their theme park day. And while its cocktail program shines, its exotic menu of small bites is just as exciting, including its long-standing Nomad Churros. These churros are perfect, with that desired crunchy exterior and pillowy interior. But things get interesting with its accompanying dips just as worthy to be the star of the show. The vanilla cream is a perennial favorite alongside seasonal sauces, like rich coffee crème anglaise and sweet blueberry.

When That '70s Show premiered in 1998, its cast of young actors was almost entirely unknown. Ashton Kutcher was a model from Iowa, Topher Grace didn’t even have a headshot, and Mila Kunis was barely a teenager. Now, exactly 20 years since the show ended on May 18, 2006, they are global movie stars—and two of them even got married to each other!

Reflecting on their good fortune, Grace once said, “I was honestly lucky to not only get on That ‘70s Show with all those talented people, but also land on a show that did so well for all of us. We got to choose what we wanted to do from there. You must know that actors don’t often get to do that or have that kind of privilege.” 

Set in fictional Point Place, Wisconsin, That '70s Show followed a close-knit group of teens as they came of age in a smoke-filled basement. Although the show rarely pulled blockbuster ratings, it ran for eight seasons across 200 episodes, generating enough nostalgia to greenlight a spinoff—That ‘90s Show—which premiered on Netflix in 2023. The series brought back original stars Debra Jo Rupp (Kitty) and Kurtwood Smith (Red) alongside highly anticipated guest appearances by Grace (Eric), Kunis (Jackie), Kutcher (Kelso), Wilmer Valderrama (Fez) and Laura Prepon (Donna). 

“Mila and I were contemplating [the possibility of doing the show],” Kutcher told Variety. “We thought, 'Listen, we’re only in the position that we’re in because of that show, so let’s just go back and do this.' We just went back and had fun for a week."

A frequent question among fans is how old Mila Kunis was in That '70s Show: She was just 14 years old when she auditioned for the role of spoiled rich girl Jackie Burkhart, despite producers requiring actors to be at least 18. (She famously lied about her age to secure the role.) At the time, she had a few minor TV credits—including appearances on Days of Our Lives and 7th Heaven. 

Following the show, Kunis built a major film career with hits including Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Friendswith Benefits, Black Swan and Bad Moms. She also continued to voice Meg Griffin on Family Guy, a role she began while shooting That ‘70s Show and holds to this day. 

In one of Hollywood’s most full-circle romances, Kunis married her former co-star Ashton Kutcher in 2015.

Unlike some of his younger co-stars, Danny Masterson already had a lengthy résumé before playing sarcastic rebel Steven Hyde, with roles in Roseanne, Beethoven’s 2nd and Party of Five. Still, That ‘70s Show is the series that catapulted him to fame.

After the show ended, Masterson starred in Men at Work, a TBS sitcom that lasted three seasons, and The Ranch, which reunited him with Kutcher. 

Ultimately, his career was eclipsed by his criminal convictions. In 2023, he was sentenced to 30 years to life prison after being convicted on two counts of forcible rape. The assaults occurred in the early 2000s, when he was still starring on That ‘70s Show.

Masterson was married to actress and model Bijou Phillips at the time of his conviction, but Phillips filed for divorce shortly after his sentencing. The two share a daughter.

Ashton Kutcher (Michael Kelso): From the Basement to Tech Billionaire Ashton Kutcher in 1999—he's since become a tech billionaire.

Before he became Michael Kelso—the lovable pretty-boy dimwit of the gang—Kutcher was a successful fashion model who walked runways everywhere from Manhattan to Milan for major brands like Calvin Klein and Gucci. He was studying to be a chemical engineer before he dropped out to chase his dreams.

That ‘70s Show turned Kutcher into one of the biggest stars of the early 2000s. While still on the sitcom, he launched MTV’s Punk'd and led films like Dude, Where's My Car?, Just Married, My Boss’s Daughter, The Butterfly Effect and A Lot Like Love. 

After the show wrapped, he continued his rom-com streak with No Strings Attached and Valentine’s Day, and eventually returned to TV for more than 80 episodes of Two and a Half Men, which he joined after Charlie Sheen’s departure. More recently, he starred in four seasons of The Ranch on Netflix and Ryan Murphy’s The Beauty.

Hollywood projects aside, Kutcher also became a massively successful tech investor, backing companies—including Airbnb and Uber—in their earliest days.

His personal life made headlines for years—particularly his marriage to Demi Moore from 2005 to 2013, which ended amid reports he was unfaithful. He later reunited romantically with Kunis, and the pair now shares two kids.

Topher Grace (Eric Forman): Why He Really Left Point Place Topher Grace in 2000

Before landing the role of awkward Star Wars-loving teenager Eric Forman at age 20, Grace had never professionally acted before in his life. He was cast on the series off a play he did in high school, which a couple of “big-time Hollywood producers” happened to see because their daughter worked on the set.

“I was really only in that [play] because I sprained my ankle and I couldn't be on the tennis team," Grace recalled.

After becoming the central face of a sitcom by chance, Grace famously left the show before its final season. He has also been open about the fact that he was never part of his co-stars' tight-knit, off-screen partying clique, noting that they had different lifestyles and he preferred to keep a low profile.

He starred as Eddie Brock/Venom in Spider-Man 3, which he followed up with films like Interstellar, BlacKkKlansman and the 2024 A24 thriller Heretic. He also continued to work in television, popping up in series like Comedy Bang! Bang!, Workaholics and Black Mirror, and starring in the short-lived ABC sitcom Home Economics. To the delight of his OG fans, he also reprised the role of Eric for one episode of That ‘90s Show.

Before being cast as Eric’s next-door neighbor and eventual love interest Donna Pinciotti, Laura Prepon had mostly worked as a model and studied acting in New York.

Recalling what sealed the deal for creators Bonnie and Terri Turner to cast her on That '70s Show, Prepon told Couch Surfing, “At the end of the audition, I looked at them and I said, 'We good?' And I put my hands on the table and I pushed off like a total tomboy. It was just how I got up from my table.”

After the sitcom ended, Prepon continued acting steadily but reached an entirely new level of both fame and acclaim playing Alex Vause on Orange Is the New Black. It was the third original show ever to stream on Netflix and turned into a global phenomenon.

In recent years, she’s focused on wellness content, cooking (#GetYourPrepOn) and directing. She helmed eight episodes of That ‘90s Show, where she also briefly reprised her breakout role as Donna. 

Off camera, Prepon married actor Ben Foster in 2018, and they share two children. However, they split in 2024 and finalized their divorce in 2025.

Wilmer Valderrama was still a high-school senior when he landed the role of foreign exchange student Fez. (His co-stars actually attended his graduation.) 

Since wrapping, he’s had voice work on Handy Mandy and guest appearances on series including Raising Hope, Suburgatory, Grey’s Anatomy and The Ranch, which reunited him with Kutcher. 

One of his biggest post-sitcom roles came in 2016, when he joined NCIS as Special Agent Nick Torres. He also took his voice-acting chops to the big screen with Encanto and Zootopia 2.

Before becoming everyone’s favorite laugh-happy sitcom mom Kitty Forman, Debra Jo Rupp was already a seasoned television actress known for recurring roles on Friends and guest appearances on everything from Seinfeldto ER.

After That '70s Show ended, Rupp continued working consistently in television and theater, with guest or recurring parts in shows like This Is Us and Grey’s Anatomy. In 2023, she reprised her role as Kitty for That ‘90s Show, which follows Kitty and Red as they look after their granddaughter—Eric and Donna’s kid—for the summer of 1995.

"Seeing all the kids come back, it was almost like no time passed," she said of filming the now-canceled reboot. "It was like a mini reunion every week." Rupp has also appeared in WandaVision and Agatha All Along.

By the time he was cast as gruff patriarch Red Forman, Smith was already a respected character actor with decades of experience, including memorable turns in RoboCop and Dead Poets Society.

After the sitcom wrapped, Smith remained one of Hollywood’s busiest supporting actors, appearing in series including 24, Patriot and a number of animated projects. He also returned to Point Place, Wisconsin for three seasons of That ‘90s Show. 

Smith has been married to actress Joan Pirkle since 1988 and has two children.

While most of the core cast has gone on to long careers in Hollywood, the show's legacy also includes the tragic loss of two beloved co-stars.

Lisa Robin Kelly played Eric’s manipulative older sister—Laurie Forman—for the show's first three seasons before departing the show. Kelly struggled with addiction for many years after her departure from the series. She tragically died in 2013 at the age of 43 during treatment at a rehab facility. Her cause of death was ruled as an accidental overdose while at a rehab facility.

Tanya Roberts played Donna’s lovable but dim-witted mother, Midge Pinciotti. Before her time in Point Place, Roberts was already a massive star, known for her role as a Bond Girl in A View to a Kill and for starring in the final season of Charlie's Angels. She passed away in January 2021 at the age of 65 following complications from a urinary tract infection that developed into sepsis.

There are conversations that take on a weight they were never meant to carry.

On December 8, 1980, John Lennon sat down in his Dakota apartment with a crew from San Francisco radio station KFRC. It was supposed to be a standard promotional chat for "Double Fantasy," the comeback album he and Yoko had released three weeks earlier.

Just hours later, Lennon was no longer with us.

That interview — his last ever— has now been made into a documentary by director Steven Soderbergh. And what it captures is haunting not because Lennon had any idea what was coming later that day, but because he absolutely didn't.

What we hear instead is a man, John Lennon, at perhaps his happiest, most optimistic moment in his life. He's making plans for the future. He's ready to rejoin the world.

That’s what makes watching it so heartbreaking.

The interview happened right after the now-iconic Annie Leibovitz photo session for Rolling Stone with wife, Yoko Ono. Then, Lennon came downstairs and spent the afternoon talking about music, love, and where he was heading in life.

He discussed "(Just Like) Starting Over," explaining the song wasn't just about him and Yoko reconciling after experiencing rocky years. He saw it as a message about men and women finding their way back to each other after cultural rifts. That's how Lennon's beautiful mind worked — taking something personal and making it universal.

In 1975, when son Sean was born, Lennon decided to put down his guitar completely.  For five years, he focused on raising Sean while Yoko managed their business affairs. At the time, the idea was revolutionary— a famous rock star becoming a stay-at-home dad It was totally unheard of.

He described his househusband mornings: making breakfast, watching Sesame Street, just being with his family. A softer side of Lennon most people had never seen.

But here's what makes the interview so bittersweet: Lennon was ready to make a comeback.

He talked about wanting to perform live again. He was actually ready to get back on stage and play for people again. At 40, after years of staying out of the public eye, he was preparing for what could have been his incredible second act in life.

Soderbergh has beautifully illustrated the interview, blending Lennon's own words with hundreds of rare photographs — candid shots of Lennon at home, with his wife, Yoko, and occasionally with the Beatles.

There was one non-negotiable condition for the interview: Lennon wouldn't discuss the Beatles or "the past." He only wanted to talk about the future. He was looking forward to his second act, not back.

Lennon was murdered that night by a man, Mark David Chapman, waiting outside his building.

Watching John Lennon: The Last Interview means sitting with that reality — that all those plans for the future, all that optimism about what was to come, all that future he was so excited about, ended just a few hours later.

For Beatles fans and Lennon devotees, it's one last chance to hear his voice, talking not about yesterday but looking forward to tomorrow.

A tomorrow that would never come.

An emotional 1977 smash spent decades being viewed as one of music’s ultimate heartbreak ballads, even though that was never the songwriters’ original intention.

Linda Ronstadt's "Blue Bayou" peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard charts in the latter part of 1977. The song remained on the charts for 23 weeks and became one of her most definitive chart classics.

U Discover Music called the tune one of the Best 70s Country Songs. They write, "Linda Ronstadt has often transcended country music, but there’s no denying that her sound is country to the bone. As her sound evolved throughout the 1970s, she embraced new pastures, and there’s a swaying breeze to 'Blue Bayou' that’s ever so funky: call it yacht rock, but pontoon rock might be more accurate."

However, the song was never intended to create the sense of melancholy it so deeply evokes. In fact, it was written to be a happy song.

In an interview with NME later reprinted by Songfacts, songwriter Roy Orbison, who co-wrote “Blue Bayou” with Joe Melson during a road trip, revealed the surprising truth behind the beloved hit.

"Take a song like 'Blue Bayou' for instance, that's simply a song about being on the road. And that is really a happy song," he began.

"It probably sounds very strange to you for me to say that. The fellow's bound and determined to get back to where you sleep all day, and the catfish play and the sailing boats and the girls and all that stuff. It's a beautiful thought."

He concluded, "Now granted that it is a sad song, a lonely song, but it's a loneliness that precedes happiness. And I'm not sitting here trying to tell you that I don't sing lonely songs or anything like that."

Orbison had a hit with "Blue Bayou" in 1963. The song rose to the top of the Irish, Australian, and UK singles charts.

In an interview with Pop Matters, Ronstadt recalled the first time she heard the now-classic Orbison/Melson song. “On that same night that I had the tape of Jackson [Browne] teaching me ‘Poor Poor Pitiful Me’, JD [Souther] taught me ‘Blue Bayou.'"

She continued, "[Jackson] said, ‘I think this would be a good song for you to sing’ and he played it for me. He started to sing it and I started singing harmony. I said, ‘I’m going to learn that.’ That was a profitable night!”

In fact, Linda Ronstadt loved the song so much she asked her father, Gilbert Ronstadt, to write Spanish lyrics for it. The song was then translated into "Lago Azul" and featured on her 1987 mariachi album, Canciones de mi Padre.

Albert Hammond is well known for his successful career as a songwriter, but as a solo performer, he’s often considered a one-hit wonder. The song that made him a singing sensation? 1972’s “It Never Rains in Southern California.” Written by Hammond and Mike Hazlewood, the soft rock classic appeared on Hammond’s debut album of the same name and peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 on Dec. 16, 1972.

According to Songfacts, Hammond once said the song was written in London when he was struggling to make it as a musician. “That struggle you go through, that's ‘It Never Rains in Southern California, the story of my life,” he shared. "One of my most important songs, not only because I think it's a great song and I love it, and I think it tells the story of my life in a way, but also because I was the artist, the producer, the writer - I mean, everything was right, it was just like the right thing. If I hadn't had that, I might have got slowly downhill, you know."

Other artists rejected Hammond’s hit song

Hammond co-wrote songs that became huge hits for other artists, including “The Air that I Breathe” (The Hollies), “When I Need You" (Leo Sayer), “One Moment in Time” (Whitney Houston), and “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” (Starship).

But “It Never Rains in Southern California” was actually rejected by several artists when Hammond first wrote it.

In an interview with the Strange Brew, the songwriter recounted his early issues with his future hit. “The strange thing with that song was, maybe it was meant for me, because I gave it to Glen Campbell and The Seekers. They both turned the song down. So I never played it again to anyone until I auditioned for Clive Davis in L.A. After I played 45 minutes on my guitar, he asked me if I had any other songs. I told him 'yeah,' but that these two wonderful artists had turned it down.”

Hammond considered his meeting with Davis to be his lucky break. Speaking with Music-News.com in 2017, he shared, “I suppose my lucky break was meeting Clive Davis, auditioning for him, and for me playing him 45 minutes of music from ‘The Free Electric Band’ to ‘The Air That I Breathe’ to all these songs but not playing him ‘It Never Rains in Southern California.’”

Hammond noted that Davis asked him if he had any other songs, which led him to the song that had been rejected by others.

“I said, ‘Yes, but when I played it to all these wonderful artists, they told me it was a terrible song, that's why I didn't play it today,’" Hammond recalled. “And he said, ‘Play it for me.’ I played him ‘It Never Rains in Southern California,’ and he said, ‘That's going to be your biggest single, and that's going to be the title of your album.’"
