If you’ve ever experienced rope drop at Magic Kingdom, you know the morning rush can feel like a mission. Guests speed-walk beneath the train station with their eyes locked on the My Disney Experience app, mentally calculating Lightning Lane arrival windows for Space Mountain or dashing toward Tiana’s Bayou Adventure before the Florida heat sets in.

Then, just past the buttery aroma of the Town Square popcorn cart, four voices harmonize on the sidewalk—and the whole frantic world stops.

For 55 years, ever since Walt Disney World welcomed its very first guests on October 1, 1971, the Dapper Dans have served as the living, breathing front porch of the park. Dressed in candy-striped vests and boater hats, the quartet doesn’t rely on multi-million-dollar animatronics or hydraulic ride tracks. Standing just four feet away from visitors on the curb, they stop time with four-part vaudeville harmonies, antique Deegan organ chimes, and an endless supply of groan-worthy dad jokes.

“We’re the First Scene of the Movie”

Stepping onto Main Street, U.S.A. was always designed by Disney Imagineers to feel like passing through the velvet curtains of an old cinema lobby. And as the Dans see it, their role is to set the scene before you even reach Cinderella Castle.

“We’re kind of the official greeters, the welcoming committee to the Magic Kingdom,” says Dirk Donahue, a Kissimmee native and Walt Disney Legacy Award recipient who has spent over three decades performing in the park. “It’s a smile, it’s an optimism, it’s setting the mood that you’re on Main Street, U.S.A. We’re about 1908, 1910, the era, and so we set that mood with our style and the way we’re dressed, the way we speak with our guests.”

Whether arriving aboard the vintage horse-drawn trolley or strolling out onto the sunlit brick, the quartet’s mission is all about breaking down the fourth wall.

“The popcorn is right when you walk in, and then we’re the first scene of the movie, if you will,” explains quartet member Jonathan Meadows. “Most people that come in through Magic Kingdom have no idea what we are, who we are, or definitely not expecting live entertainment right off the bat… they’re just gonna plan their trip or their Lightning Lanes, and then they’re like, ‘Oh, there are people that are just engaging with us.’ Shock and surprise and smiles—smiles are the best thing because they’re not expecting it, but obviously it’s a good surprise.”

As tenor Michael Rodriguez points out, that personal face-to-face connection is something a thrill ride can never replicate. “All of our guests are part of our scene at all moments,” Rodriguez says. “Whether it’s through our dad jokes or walking around singing with them, giving them a chance to dance… there’s no hiding behind a curtain.”

Antique Chimes and a Second-Generation Legacy

What makes the Dapper Dans truly unique in the barbershop world is an antique instrument they play during every set: the Deegan organ chimes. Manufactured in the early 1900s—right around the era Walt Disney was born—the chimes are practically extinct outside of collector vaults.

“Almost no one knows what they are or has played them because they’re an antique instrument that they don’t make anymore,” Rodriguez explains. “So that’s a great equalizer of the group. Even if they’re piano players, they don’t know how to play this organ chime. That’s something that we help them through… getting that trust between all four of us on stage.”

Mastering those chimes is an Olympic-level feat of coordination, especially when playing the group’s show-stopping rendition of the Main Street Electrical Parade theme.

“It’s very impressive, but it’s all on the chimes and it takes a great deal of focus, a great deal of accuracy,” says second-generation Dapper Dan John Barnick, who joined the quartet following in the footsteps of his father, a two-time barbershop gold medalist who also wore the iconic striped vest. “When it rings, it’s really, really special, especially for guests who have memories of that parade. It’s special to watch their faces light up all of a sudden and go, ‘I remember this song.'”

For Barnick, carrying on the family craft on Main Street carries profound meaning. “My family all comes from a barbershop music background,” he shares. “My dad’s a two-time gold medal champion… my mom also sang barbershop when she was younger, and that’s actually how my parents met, at a barbershop convention. The show has definitely morphed over the years—it’s about the comedy, the love, the shtick and the bits—but none of it matters unless we’re singing some pretty good barbershop out there.”

The Magic That Outlasts the Rides

While the park around them has continuously reinvented itself over 55 years—swapping vintage ticket books for MagicBands and welcoming massive new lands—the Dapper Dans remain one of the only opening-day traditions untouched by time.

“It’s really quite humbling to be a part of such a legacy group,” Rodriguez reflects. “There’s very few things that are still here that are exactly as they were on opening day. The Dapper Dans were here on opening day. The Castle was here on opening day. The few things that stood the test of time, it happens to be our group. We are part of that Disney legacy.”

That legacy lives in the deeply personal, unscripted moments shared with strangers on a sidewalk. The Dans regularly serenade couples celebrating 50th wedding anniversaries, surprise cancer survivors ringing the bell, and witness tearful reunions with families returning decades after their first visit.

“I’ve had it many times where you sing Happy Birthday to this person and they start bawling,” Rodriguez shares softly. “‘Oh, you sang to my dad. We lost him this past year, and you were his favorite thing.’ You’re a part of these people’s lives even if you don’t know it in that moment… that’s one of the best parts, and that’s what gets me choked up, just seeing their joy.”

For Donahue, who first rode the ferry boat across the Seven Seas Lagoon as a five-year-old local boy when Magic Kingdom opened its gates, putting on that straw boater hat every morning is a privilege that never gets old.

“Once you walked under that train station and saw everything come to life as a kid, that was really magical,” Donahue says. “To work at the Magic Kingdom as a kid who grew up right down the street in Osceola County is pretty magical for me.”

And if you visit on the anniversary? Don’t worry about missing them. As Donahue smiles, “We don’t take a day off. If the park is open, the Dapper Dans will be here.”

“Vanilla fragrances are so beloved because of the prevalence of vanilla flavorings in our culture. Vanilla can trigger feelings of comfort, satiety or even desire, so it’s no wonder perfumes with prominent vanilla notes are popular,” he says.

What Separates a Grown-up Vanilla From a Sweet One

As with all fragrance notes, there are multiple variations of vanilla. For instance, grown-up vanillas are often paired with notes like amber, sandalwood, bourbon or dry woods.

“Vanilla extract is a complex material, with fruity, floral and woody nuances. Perfumers can highlight any of those facets to create an unusual spin on the classical ingredient,” Coons says.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, sweet vanillas often smell a lot more like they’re fresh out of a bakery.

“Vanillin, the synthetic ‘vanilla’ flavor molecule, is more one-dimensional and can be used to add sweetness and depth to gourmand fragrances,” the fragrance pro says.

Most of us mindlessly spray on our fragrance without thinking twice about it. But Coons says there’s one easy trick to help ensure that your perfume lasts longer.

“My number one tip for getting a fragrance to last is to spray your clothes. Clothes hold fragrance much longer than your skin. I like to spray down my shirt, front and back to help trap the fragrance,” he says. “Just be careful with light-colored fabric.”

The fragrance pro also notes that some fragrances simply aren’t designed to last all day. For this reason, it’s best to try before you buy.

“Buy a sample or decant to make sure a fragrance lasts long enough to satisfy you before committing to a full bottle,” he says.

Instead, it’s about two young vampires learning about each other — and one of them about being undead.

What Happens During This Week’s Episode of ‘Eternally Yours’?

In “Baby Vampire,” this week’s brand new episode of Eternally Yours, Max will need to learn what it means to be a member of the undead. He will learn all about the vampire lore set in this world, and he’ll need to come to accept that his life as he knew it is no more.

He’s not the only one with things to learn, though. Emma has to deal with the fact that her boyfriend is now just like her, and it’s not like they talked about what this would mean for either of them. On top of that, Charles, Liz, and Jesse will need to help Max learn their ways. After all, as Jesse points out, “We broke him, we bought him.”

R&B icon Stephanie Mills is calling out Lady Gaga over an encounter she says left her feeling disrespected, claiming the pop star owes her an apology years after the alleged incident.

During an appearance on BET’s The Jason Lee Show, R&B singer Stephanie Mills explained why she called Lady Gaga a “culture vulture,” recalling an alleged encounter in which she was asked to surprise the pop star with a performance of “Home” from The Wiz, the musical in which Mills originated the role of Dorothy. She later reprised the role in the 1978 film adaptation.

Mills said her former manager told her that “Home” was Gaga’s favorite song and asked her to perform it during a fashion shoot in New York. Mills initially resisted but eventually agreed.

“At first, I said, ‘No, why would I do that? No,’ and I was talked into it,” she recalled.

Mills said she performed the song for Gaga, but the response was not what she expected.

“She didn’t smile. She didn’t do anything. She looked at me like I had two heads,” Mills said.

The singer also claimed she was not paid for the appearance in money. Instead, the arrangement reportedly involved receiving a professional photo shoot with the photographer working at the event.

However, Mills alleged that the experience took another uncomfortable turn when she and her team prepared to leave.

“Before we left, they said, ‘You’ve got to delete all those pictures,’” she recalled. Mills said members of Gaga’s team approached them near an elevator and insisted that every photograph be deleted before they could leave.

“They did not let us leave until they saw every picture being deleted,” Mills alleged.

Mills connected her criticism to Gaga’s professional relationships with Black men and her collaboration with R. Kelly.

“That’s why I say she’s a culture vulture,” Mills said.

The singer also made clear that the alleged encounter had changed her opinion of Gaga. “I had admiration for her. I don’t any longer,” she said, adding that she believes in treating people with respect and giving them grace.

Near the end of the conversation, Mills addressed Gaga directly, saying, “I hope you watch and I hope you remember what you did.”

She added, “And I feel like you owe me an apology.”

Netflix’s The Diplomat season 4 finds Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) in a very difficult spot as President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) and VP Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell) keep making decisions that are going to seriously damage America’s most important international relationships. There’s a stolen Russian weapon, a new UK PM, and increasing friction within the White House itself. Kate is now faced with the question of just how far she’s prepared to go to protect the country.

The finale sees all of this come to a head, with Kate having to make a very difficult decision and the question of what Hal is going to do next hanging in the air.

Why Does Kate Wyler Resign in ‘The Diplomat’ Season 4 Finale?

Season 4 kicks off with Kate trying to come to terms with the fact that Grace and Hal arranged the theft of Poseidon (the Russian weapon that was pulled out of the sunken sub). Kate knows what they’ve done is going to have massive consequences, but she ultimately decides to go along with it and help to contain the situation rather than go public right away.

Things get significantly more complicated when Grace is shot as a result of the events surrounding their visit to Windsor Castle. The President survives, but her behavior changes and her decisions become very difficult for those around her to question. Meanwhile, British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison is dead, which leaves Kate utterly without an ally in the increasingly fraught situation. Hal’s decision to tell the truth about Poseidon to British PM Nicol Trowbridge has created its own set of problems.

Kate eventually resorts to blackmail to get Trowbridge to resign. His replacement, Bethan Vaughn, takes a different view of the situation and is prepared to let the Russians take their dead out of British territory. Grace, on the other hand, wants Kate to go to Vaughn and press him into reversing that decision. Kate is quite uncomfortable with the president’s increasingly aggressive stance and is concerned that the whole thing could damage the US/UK relationship.

The ultimate trigger is Grace retaliating against Stuart Hayford for having used the official diplomatic channel for expressing his dissent about the administration’s policies. Instead of engaging with his concerns, Grace has him recalled to Washington and thus effectively ends his diplomatic career.

Kate realizes the President is no longer prepared to tolerate any meaningful disagreement. When Grace also puts her own position as ambassador at risk, Kate decides that staying in the administration would mean continuing to back decisions she can no longer justify.

She resigns publicly at the G7 summit, which in effect enables her to speak to the press without the same constraints that would have applied in her capacity as a diplomat.

What Happens at the G7 Summit? Does Grace Penn Get Exposed?

The G7 summit is the stage for the season’s big showdown.

As the tensions mount, Vaughn is preparing to go to Grace over the American administration’s actions. It’s not just about the theft of Poseidon. Grace has also sent American warships right towards the British coast and has made it very clear what the consequences will be if the UK interferes with American military operations.

The prospect of US forces shooting at British nationals makes this situation particularly dangerous. They’re supposed to be allies, yet Grace’s approach could well turn what should be a partnership into a confrontation. Rather than have Vaughn do the talking, Grace goes to the G7 herself. She says the US took Poseidon and sent warships towards Britain. Her justification for these actions is that they were necessary steps to protect British citizens and NATO territory.

Grace says that Vaughn’s acceptance of Russian personnel entering British soil is in itself a greater security risk. She also points out to the others that if America were to be excluded from the G7, the group would be in a very serious state.

Her argument seems to hold water at least in the short term. The other leaders don’t immediately call her to account, and she’s therefore in a position to go on with her policies. For Kate, this is a further confirmation that the President’s power is increasingly difficult to contain. Grace has taken a potentially damaging admission and turned it into an argument for her own leadership, while those who are in opposition are being punished professionally.

Kate’s resignation is therefore more than just a personal protest. It is an attempt to challenge an administration which has already started to value loyalty above all else.

Why Do Hal, Billie and Ganon Walk Out?

Kate’s decision kicks off a rather unexpected domino effect. Billie Appiah (Nana Mensah), Secretary of State Miguel Ganon, and Hal all seem to be joining her in walking away from the administration.

Their exits send a very clear message: Grace is still President, but she is losing the backing of key people in her own government. Publicly rejecting her as leader could damage her standing with America’s international allies and leave her vulnerable to both political and legal repercussions. Hal’s decision is of course particularly significant given that he’s spent a good deal of the season helping Grace to deal with the aftermath of their secret operation. He’s also demonstrated how much he values his position as VP.

The ending is very deliberately ambiguous as to what Hal’s next move is. He does walk out with the others, but it’s not at all clear that he’s formally resigned. It could be the beginning of him actually taking a stand against Grace, or it could be another attempt to deal with the situation on his own. The last scene, Hal going up to the reporters, adds another dimension of ambiguity. We don’t hear what he says, so we’re left in doubt as to what his intentions are or what the effect of his next statement will be.

Ultimately, Season 4 of The Diplomat ends with Kate choosing principle over position as the people around her grapple with where their own loyalties lie. Grace may have survived the immediate political confrontation, but the public walkout is a direct threat to her authority. Hal’s next move is still unknown, and the future of the administration is very much in doubt, with another power struggle over principle, trust, and accountability just around the corner.

Fans of classic rock and new wave have another reason to revisit the music of the early 1980s. One legendary band is reaching into its own musical history for its upcoming album, reviving a song originally recorded by one of its founding members for a solo release more than four decades ago.

Blondie will release High Noon, its 12th studio album, on February 26, 2027. The 13-track record will feature a new version of “Little Metal Drummer,” a song originally recorded by the band’s co-founding keyboardist Jimmy Destri for his 1981 solo album, Heart on a Wall.

The detail offers a different reason for longtime listeners to get excited about the record. Rather than relying entirely on familiar hits such as “Heart of Glass” and “Call Me,” Blondie is revisiting a lesser-known piece of its extended musical history.

According to Classic Pop, the album will also bring together rock, punk, dance and Latin influences, reflecting the range of styles that has helped define the band since its rise in the late 1970s.

The record’s lead single, “Spectral Eyes,” was written by former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, who also plays guitar on the track. Other contributors include Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock, Beirut frontman Zach Condon and Lucius singers Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig.

There is also a poignant connection to the band’s recent past. High Noon features the final recordings of longtime drummer Clem Burke, who died in April 2025 at age 70. Recording sessions began in New York in 2022, according to the Associated Press.

Debbie Harry described the new record as an amalgamation of the band’s different influences and eras, adding that its music reflects the members’ lives today.

Blondie’s legacy extends far beyond its early hits. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees helped bring different musical styles into mainstream pop, with “Rapture” becoming a landmark hit for incorporating rap into the pop charts.

With High Noon, the band is connecting that history to new material while bringing an overlooked song from its past back into the spotlight. For longtime fans, that unexpected link to 1981 could be one of the album’s most intriguing details.

The Eagles found themselves at a major career shift by the mid-1970’s with a hit rock track that would effectively become one of the best breakup anthems they didn’t write.

By 1974, the country-rock band had a handful of hits to their name, with “Already Gone” adding to the list of beloved classics. The track became a staple breakup anthem about a guy who hears through the grapevine that his girlfriend is leaving him. Instead of heartache, he finds a new sense of freedom.

American Songwriter tagged “Already Gone” as one of the top breakup anthems of the era that still hits whether listeners are in a relationship or not. Despite landing at No. 32 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the song did the job of shifting the Eagles to a harder rock sound, accompanied by their album On the Border.

“Already Gone” wasn’t actually written by the band and was created years before it ever landed at the feet of the Eagles. It was written by Jack Tempchin and Robb Strandlund in 1968. Some may recall that Tempchin is also responsible for another Eagles hit, “Peaceful Easy Feeling.”

The song was originally country, with Tempchin and Strandlum having developed it while Tempchin was managing a club called The Back Door at San Diego State College. They often played at the club, and Tempchin recalls having sat in the club’s back-room kitchen, drinking a questionable liquid.

“We were playing one night and we were in the back room, which was the kitchen where there were these big refrigerator doors,” explained Tempchin to SongFacts.

“I opened the door and there was a white jug. So I got this jug out, and for some reason, we thought it would be OK to just drink out of this jug. It was hard cider, and I had never had any alcohol or any drugs or anything at that point,” he added.

“So, we were drinking out of this jug and we started to feel really good, and I said, ‘Let’s write a country song.’ So in about 20 minutes in the back room there, we wrote ‘Already Gone.’ The chorus goes woo hoo hoo because I just felt so good suddenly.”

The song was played by Tempchin now and again, but he never thought much of it. He had been good friends with Glenn Frey since the ’60s, and he got a call from the rocker about “Already Gone.”

The band was in the studio working on their newest album when Frey told Temchin over the phone that his country song would be a great rock track. Tempchin remembers Frey holding the phone up to the studio speakers and hearing their version of “Already Gone.”

It became a hit for its guitar by new member Don Felder and was one of the first tracks they recorded with new producer Bill Szymczyk.

Derek Hough shared a heartbreaking update about his beloved dog of 15 years late Wednesday night.

The Dancing With the Stars pro-turned-judge posted a photo to his Instagram Stories showing himself lying on the floor nose-to-nose with his longtime canine companion Romi, revealing that the dog “isn’t doing too good.”

“My boy of 15 years isn’t doing too good, so I’ve been sleeping on the floor with him for the past few days,” Hough wrote over the touching photo. “My mind is racing thinking of all the different stages of life we’ve gone through together.”

The 41-year-old dancer and his wife Hayley Erbert Hough are longtime animal lovers who have filled their home with rescue pets over the years.

Hough previously opened up about his pets in a 2021 interview with People, when he and Erbert shared two rescue dogs, Romi and Luna, as well as rescue cats Palo and Lily. The couple has since added another cat, Otis, to the family.

At the time, Hough described Romi as his oldest dog, a German shepherd/husky mix who had begun going gray around his face. Hough joked that they had nicknamed the older pup “George Clooney” because he was so cool and relaxed.

“We’ve nicknamed Romi ‘George Clooney’ because he’s starting to get a little grey in his face, but he’s so cool and always just chilling, checking up on stuff around the house,” Hough told People.

Hough also made clear just how important his animals were to him and Erbert, calling them “the loves of our lives.”

“No matter what’s going on in your life, there’s this love and look on their face which says, ‘It’s going to be okay,’” Hough said at the time. “Taking care of them, loving them, and playing with them remind me to be present.”

That bond makes Hough’s latest update especially poignant. Fifteen years with Romi have spanned numerous chapters of the dancer’s life, from his years as one of Dancing With the Stars’ most successful professional dancers to becoming a judge on the ABC competition, marrying Erbert in 2023 and welcoming their daughter Everley in December 2025.

For now, Hough appears determined to spend as much time as possible beside his longtime friend, even if that means trading his bed for a spot on the floor.

After appearing on Broadway, Tommy Lee Jones popped up in his first movie back in 1970, which means that he’s been acting onscreen for over 55 years. Now, the 80-year-old award-winning star has revealed his retirement plan, and it may or may not be what you’d expect from such a passionate, popular, and prolific actor who’s enjoyed a lengthy and successful career.

During an interview with E! News alongside Jones’ The Lowdown costar Ethan Hawke, the older actor talked about whether he’s thought about retiring, saying, “Yes, I have.”

He then added, “I’m not gonna do it.”

E! News noted that this is due to the fact that the star is still loving what he does. That’s not to overlook the fact that he’s still being offered jobs like his current gig.

Telling E! that working on The Lowdown “was very inviting,” Jones admitted, “I would have been happy to play any part in that world.”

This attitude towards Jones’ career is nothing new. Back in 2014, when he was 68, he was already opening up about his desire to keep acting despite his worry that he might not be offered jobs in the future, telling The Guardian, “I don’t want to end my career.”

Fortunately for Jones, his career is still thriving. Along with his current role on The Lowdown, he also appeared in 2019’s Ad Astra with Brad Pitt, Ruth Negga, Liv Tyler, and the late Donald Sutherland, as well as Wander alongside Aaron Eckhart and The Comeback Trail costarring Robert De Niro and Morgan Freeman, which both came out in 2020. He also nabbed roles in 2023’s Finestkind with Jenna Ortega and The Burial opposite Jamie Foxx, as well as 2026’s Angel and the Badman also starring Zachary Levi.

It seems clear that enticing roles in projects featuring fellow captivating stars are still being offered to Jones, which means that he won’t have to retire any time soon. That’s obviously good news for both the actor and his fans.
