It seems Aaron Paul is having trouble getting used to the death of his Breaking Bad co-star RJ Mitte and has shared a very personal tribute that shows the regret and heartbreak he feels over having lost someone whom he regarded as a friend. 

In an emotional Instagram post, Paul recalled Mitte as a man who faced life’s challenges with grace and shared a video in which the late actor talked about the importance of mental health.

“I am so sorry you were hurting, my friend. I wish we knew,” Paul wrote, and the message has acquired greater significance since Mitte died at the age of 34.

The actor also recalled the last time he had seen his friend and remembered a moment that has remained with him; Paul stated that he always called Mitte “Superman”, on the grounds that his friend reminded him of the superhero because of his kindness and strength.

Paul had seen Mitte go from being a young actor to becoming an adult, and his tribute showed that his memories went well beyond the period during which they had worked together on television. He recalled a man who always met difficulties with confidence and grace and thus made an impression on other people.

“I love you, my friend. I loved your mother. Your sister. I loved your laugh and how much fun you had riding the wave we were all blessed to be on with Breaking Bad,” Paul wrote on Instagram.

The actor also used the post to get in touch with people who might be going through difficulties on a personal level. He told those who were feeling lost, sad, or unsure about the future to speak to someone they trusted rather than dealing with such emotions by themselves. He asked people to let their loved ones know how much they matter.

“I hope whoever is reading this note that feels lost or sad or uncertain about the future, please say something. Life is so damn special,” Paul added.

The video shared by Paul shows Mitte explaining why mental well-being should receive the same level of attention as physical health. “We hide how we’re truly feeling, of what we’re truly thinking of. Of the okays, I’m fine, and I’m good. But is that what you really are? Are you okay? Are you good? Not always, but it’s okay to not always be good. But it’s not okay to harbor that feeling, harbor those emotions. So, I’m hoping to inspire each and everyone that sees this video, today,” Mitte said in the video.

According to his representative, Mitte died on October 12 at the age of 34. The rep also confirmed that Mitte died by suicide. The actor was known for portraying Walter “Flynn” White Jr., the son of Bryan Cranston’s Walter White and Anna Gunn’s Skyler White, on AMC’s Breaking Bad, and took part in the show during its five-season span from 2008 to 2013.

Mitte was given the diagnosis of cerebral palsy when he was three years old, and this experience influenced the way he portrayed Walter Jr. Moreover, he became a well-known advocate for disability awareness and inclusion and worked with various organizations such as United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s.

His involvement went beyond that of an actor, since his advocacy helped to increase the visibility of performers who have disabilities.

Nick Lachey isn’t one to frequently discuss his marriage to Jessica Simpson, but he recently brought up their past relationship while offering some advice to a Love Is Blind contestant.

During the Season 11 premiere of the Netflix dating series on Wednesday, October 14, the 52-year-old singer opened up about how his first marriage helped him better understand what he wanted in a partner.

Contestant Erika Ellis admitted to Nick and his wife and co-host, Vanessa Lachey, that she’d struggled with telling potential partners about her previous marriage. “I’ve been married before, and I’ve had a tough time on dates in the past knowing when the right time to share that is,” Ellis explained.

Nick offered a different perspective. “Well, as some of you may know, I was previously married before I met my incredible wife,” he said. “I would make the very unique argument that it gives you a leg up because you know from that experience what it is you truly want,” he continued.

Of course, Nick’s first marriage was hardly a private affair. He and Simpson, now 46, tied the knot in October 2002 and documented their relationship on MTV’s Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, which aired from 2003 to 2005. The couple divorced in June 2006.

This also isn’t the first time Nick has reflected on what he learned from that experience. During Season 3 of Netflix’s The Ultimatum in December 2024, he acknowledged the emotional impact of going through a divorce. “I, too, was previously married, divorced, so I understand the hurt, the scars that exist from that,” he told a contestant.

Nick later married Vanessa in July 2011, and the couple shares three children, Camden, Brooklyn, and Phoenix.

OK, so it isn’t beginning to look a lot like Christmas yet, but I’m trying to get ahead of the chaos by decluttering and organizing before the mayhem sets in. Natalie Maines is celebrating her 52nd birthday as her band, The Chicks, marks a major milestone in its music career.

Born Oct. 14, 1974, in Lubbock, Texas, Maines is best known as the lead singer of the Grammy-winning country trio, formerly known as the Dixie Chicks.

Her birthday comes as the group celebrates 20 years since the release of its 2006 album Taking the Long Way, which earned five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.

The Chicks are currently honoring the record with a special anniversary tour, performing the album in its entirety for the first time.

How did Natalie Maines get her start in music?

Maines developed an interest in music at an early age, beginning to sing when she was just 3 years old.

According to her IMDb biography, she was a cheerleader in high school and performed with a local band before attending Berklee College of Music in the 1990s.

Her career took a major turn when she auditioned for The Chicks, joining sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer as the group’s lead vocalist.

Music also runs in the family. Her father, Lloyd Maines, is a longtime Texas country musician and producer who has worked with artists including Robert Earl Keen, Jerry Jeff Walker and Parker McCollum.

Maines’ contributions to music were recognized in 2015 when she was selected for induction into the West Texas Walk of Fame in her hometown of Lubbock.

The hometown honor is just one of many accolades Maines has earned throughout her career. As a member of The Chicks, she has helped the trio earn 13 Grammy Awards, along with multiple Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music awards.

The Chicks celebrate 20 years of ‘Taking the Long Way’

Two decades after releasing Taking the Long Way on May 23, 2006, The Chicks are bringing the Grammy-winning album back into the spotlight.

The trio launched its Taking the Long Way 20th Anniversary Tour in Detroit on Sept. 30, performing the record from beginning to end before closing each concert with other fan favorites.

The group also released an expanded anniversary edition of the album on Oct. 2, featuring five bonus tracks, including previously unreleased demos of “Not Ready to Make Nice,” “So Hard” and “Flowers.”

Earlier this month, Rolling Stone revisited the album’s lasting impact on country music, writing, “However you know the Chicks, their impact and legacy is undeniable.”

The anniversary also comes with renewed attention surrounding the band’s 2006 hit “Not Ready to Make Nice.”

During a recent performance at New York City’s Beacon Theatre, the group reflected on writing the song following the backlash to Maines’ 2003 criticism of then-President George W. Bush and the Iraq War.

Maguire recalled how a woman featured in a news segment that inspired part of the song later sent the group an apologetic letter after watching their documentary Shut Up and Sing.

Despite facing backlash following the incident, Taking the Long Way debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling approximately 526,000 copies in its first week.

While that was about 33% fewer than the 780,000 copies sold during the opening week of the group’s previous album, Home (2002), the No. 1 debut demonstrated The Chicks’ continued commercial appeal despite losing support from parts of country radio.

Maines also made headlines this week after revisiting her criticism of political leadership during the anniversary tour.

The White House responded to Maines’ comments, calling the singer a “despicable nobody” with a “peanut-sized brain,” according to Fox News Digital.

Maines’ representative did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

The Chicks are scheduled to continue their anniversary tour with a Nashville performance on Oct. 15, followed by stops in Texas, Seattle, San Francisco and Hollywood through early November.

Dancing With the Stars pro Val Chmerkovskiy is coming to his wife Jenna Johnson‘s defense after she received some harsh critiques from judge Carrie Ann Inaba during the latest episode of the reality competition series.

On Tuesday, Oct. 13, Johnson and her celebrity partner, Grey’s Anatomy actor Harry Shum Jr., performed a Samba to Usher‘s “Yeah!” featuring Lil Jon and Ludacris during the show’s Super Bowl Night episode.

Although the pair delivered a powerful performance, the judges had some criticism for their routine, particularly when it came to the amount of traditional Samba content and Johnson’s choreography.

“I think you need to put more content in your dances especially because you have so much, you’re so good, like I want to see you challenge yourself a little bit more,” Inaba said. “And there was a lift.”

When the veteran judge pointed out the lift, which is prohibited in Samba, Johnson appeared surprised and questioned the call.

“A lift?” Johnson asked.

“Yeah it was a lift,” Inaba responded before reading from a piece of paper. “A lift is, I just need to say it, any movement during which one of the dancers has both feet off the floor at the same time with the assistance or support of their partner. Yeah, lift.”

The exchange has since made the rounds on social media, with viewers weighing in on the tense moment. In one TikTok video, Chmerkovskiy can be seen in the background shaking his head after Inaba gave Johnson and Shum Jr. an 8. Chmerkovskiy, who is partnered with actress Jenna Dewan this season, then appeared to take issue with the judge’s critique in the video’s comment section.

“[Put] some respect on her name. [Carrie Ann’s] tripping talking to her like that,” he wrote.

Despite the criticism, Johnson and Shum Jr. earned a total score of 33 out of 40 for their Samba and advanced to the next week of competition.

Inaba has long been known for enforcing the show’s no-lift rule, which prohibits lifts in the 10 traditional ballroom and Latin dance styles, including the Samba. However, lifts are permitted in other styles featured on the show, such as jazz, contemporary, and salsa.

This performance presented a somewhat unusual situation, as Shum Jr. was lifted not by Johnson but by two members of the show’s dance troupe.

“It’s hard because usually when someone’s called out for a lift, it’s when your partner lifts you … I was definitely unaware of two guys, that weren’t myself, rolling back Harry and lifting him,” Johnson explained in a post-show interview. “She’s a judge for a reason. She’s doing her job, I’m gonna do mine. I’m gonna take the feedback.”

The Love Island USA Season 7 boys are back at it again on social media, at least according to Ace Greene’s latest post on Instagram as he reunited with a former Islander for a High School Musical 3: Senior Year-inspired Halloween tribute.

Greene has been celebrating Halloween all month long with a special Acetober event on social media, recreating iconic film moments from The Proud Family Movie, You Got Served, 2 Fast 2 Furious, and more.

In his latest post, Greene teamed up with former Love Island USA cast member and fan favorite Nicolas Vansteenberghe to recreate the iconic High School Musical 3: Senior Year number “The Boys Are Back.”

Fans immediately ate the reunion up. “IM SCRRAMING 😂😂😂,” joked one user in the comments, while a second laughed at the dance routine, adding, “The dance moves are killing me 😂.”

Greene and Vansteenberghe were day 1 Islanders on Love Island USA Season 7 on Peacock. Throughout their time in the Villa, the pair remained close and navigated their various relationships and friendships together.

Ultimately, Greene left the Villa on Day 30, alongside his partner, Chelly Bissainthe, two days before the finale. Vansteenberghe came in second place with his partner Olandria Carthen.

Since leaving the Villa, Vansteenberghe has had a successful career as a DJ, while Greene shied away from the public eye. Greene broke up with Bissainthe months after leaving the Villa, while Vansteenberghe and Carthen appeared to have called things off earlier this year.

Greene will be making his acting debut in the upcoming horror film Terrarium, according to IMDb, while Vansteenberghe will be returning to reality T.V. with the second Season of the NBC and Peacock series Destination X, where he will be joined by Love Island USA Season 6 star Kaylor Martin.

Love Island USA Season 7 is streaming on Peacock, alongside the reunion series Love Island: Beyond the Villa Season 2, which featured a very brief appearance by Vansteenberghe.

While some sci-fi films can be rather heady and intense, others make for a light, delightful watch. The publication Collider recently spotlighted films of the latter type by releasing a ranking titled “The 10 Most Fun Sci-Fi Movies of All Time.”

The list featured films like 1993’s Jurassic Park, Everything Everywhere All at Once from 2022, and Back to the Future, released in 1985. Collider named 1977’s Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, written and directed by famed filmmaker George Lucas, the “most fun sci-fi movie of all time,” as it’s a relatively simple story with plenty of exciting and amusing moments.

George Lucas Shared How He Got ‘Star Wars’ Made

In a 2009 interview with the American Film Institute, Lucas shared how he managed to get the 1977 film, which sparked a massive franchise, off the ground. According to Lucas, his idea for the space opera was rejected by a number of studios until the then-president of 20th Century Fox, Alan Ladd Jr., saw a cut of his second film, American Graffiti (1973).

Lucas said Ladd was so impressed with American Graffiti, he wanted to know if he had any other film ideas.

“He said, ‘I love this movie. You’re very talented. What do you want to do?’ And I said, ‘Well, I’m trying to get this space thing off the ground.’ And he said, ‘Okay, well, I’ll fund the screenplay,’ and so that’s how I got the deal to do the screenplay,” said Lucas during the 2009 interview.

Mark Hamill Recently Shared His Thoughts About ‘Star Wars’

While speaking to the Associated Press at the September 2026 opening of the
Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, Mark Hamill, who famously played Luke Skywalker in several Star Wars films, shared what sets Lucas’ franchise apart from other sci-fi movies.

“It was such a unique project. Science fiction is usually very dry and serious. This one had a great sense of humor. It was unlike anything that had ever come before,” said Hamill, now 75.

The actor then expressed gratitude for his role as Luke.

“I’m just lucky to have been a part of it,” said Hamill.

Only Kalnoki was correct in Final Jeopardy, adding her $14,001 wager for a total of $28,401 and the new champ title. Yiin got it wrong, “What is Big Ben?”, dropping his $4000 wager to a second-place total of $10,200, while Clarke answered with a Monty Python quote, wagered nothing, and ended in third place with $4,800.

Kalnoki will be back on Thursday for attempt number 2.

Halloween is just around the corner, and as families put the finishing touches on costumes, stock up on candy, and plan trick-or-treating routes and backyard celebrations, there’s one important question on everyone’s mind that could make or break the experience: What will the weather be like on October 31?

After all, nothing puts a damper on spooky festivities quite like freezing temperatures, gusty winds, downpours, or even the first snowfall/blizzard of the season. (I’m thinking of you, Halloween 2019 in Chicago!)

This year, Halloween falls on a Saturday, giving families even more reason to go all out with their celebrations—pending weather participation, of course.

And while it’s still too early to pinpoint exactly what frightening forecast Mother Nature has in store for Halloween 2026, extended weather outlooks are offering some early clues, and the good news is that parts of the country could be in for warmer-than-usual conditions.

Warmer-Than-Usual Temps

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center, much of the western and northern United States is favored to experience above-normal temperatures during the two-week period spanning October 24 through November 6, which includes Halloween.

The outlook, issued October 9, favors warmer-than-normal conditions across much of the West and northern United States, as well as Alaska and the eastern Hawaiian Islands.

Meanwhile, areas stretching from Texas through the Ohio Valley and into New England have equal chances of experiencing above-, near- or below-normal temperatures, meaning there isn’t a clear signal favoring one outcome.

Portions of the Lower Mississippi Valley and surrounding areas, however, are more likely to experience temperatures closer to seasonal averages.

The outlook is influenced in part by a strong El Niño, which is affecting atmospheric patterns across North America heading into November.

It’s important to note that warmer-than-normal temperatures don’t necessarily mean warm weather. States like Montana, North Dakota and Minnesota could still experience chilly late-October conditions, even if temperatures are running above their seasonal averages.

And not every forecast points toward warmer conditions.

Chill Factor

NOAA’s shorter-range outlook, issued October 13 and covering October 21 through October 27, favors below-normal temperatures in portions of the western United States, including Oregon, California, Idaho, Nevada, Utah and Arizona.

That means some areas could experience a cooler stretch leading up to Halloween before the broader weather pattern changes.

The Farmers’ Almanac also offered a somewhat different outlook in its “Fall 2026 Extended Weather Forecast,” predicting “cooler spells” across much of the country going into late October, around Halloween.

“Halloween falls on Saturday, October 31. The forecast calls for chilly conditions in much of the country, with rain possible in parts of the Northeast, Midwest, Southeast, South Central states, and Northwest,” the publication reported.

Rain, Rain Go Away

And while we’re all familiar with squeezing extra layers under our costumes or covering them up with bulky coats, there’s arguably something even worse when it comes to running amok door-to-door: rain.

If the Farmers’ Almanac outlook holds true, some trick-or-treaters may have to incorporate umbrellas and rain boots into their costumes.

NOAA’s longer-range precipitation outlook favors drier-than-normal conditions across portions of the northern Great Plains, Midwest, Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, while parts of the Southwest could experience wetter-than-normal weather.

Extended outlooks don’t predict the exact temperature or rainfall for October 31, instead, indicating weather patterns that are more likely over a period of several days or weeks, so, for now, the best advice for families planning Halloween activities is to prepare for changing conditions and keep an eye on local forecasts as the 31st approaches.

The Beyond the Gates behind-the-scenes family is getting a little larger next year, as star Jen Jacob took to Instagram to announce that she and her husband Jesse Ruben are expecting their first child early next year!

It is currently unknown how Beyond the Gates will handle the pregnancy. Historically, soaps have sometimes decided to write real-life pregnancies into the storyline, while other options include hiding the pregnancy with strategically placed props and clever camera angles and tricks.

It is possible, given what is going on-screen, that Jacob’s Beyond the Gates character, Nurse Ashley Morgan, could find herself expecting a child with her boyfriend Grayson Perez (Jordi Vilasuso). But viewers will have to stay tuned to see how the story plays out.

Fortunately, frozen butternut squash eliminates nearly all that prep work. It’s already peeled, seeded and cubed, ready to go straight from the freezer into whatever you’re cooking. But there’s a catch: Frozen squash doesn’t always behave like fresh. Once cooked, those convenient little cubes can turn soft and watery, leaving you wondering what to actually make with frozen butternut squash that won’t end in a mushy mess.

To answer that question, we asked three chefs for their favorite ways to transform frozen butternut squash into something worth looking forward to. And while their suggestions ranged from creamy soup and pasta sauce to an unexpected mac and cheese upgrade, they shared one important piece of advice: Don’t overlook the power of roasting.

Turns out, a little time in a hot oven can make all the difference.

The Chef Consensus: Roast First, Then Blend

When it comes to recipes with frozen butternut squash, soup might be the obvious choice. Its naturally creamy texture makes it ideal for blending, and you don’t have to worry about the squash holding its shape once it’s pureed.

But according to our chefs, the secret to getting the most out of frozen squash is roasting it first.

“Roasting develops flavor, while blending creates that silky, creamy consistency,” explains chef Dennis Littley, creator of Ask Chef Dennis. “Whenever possible, I like to roast the squash first and then blend it into the soup.”

Chef Ricky Webster, who has more than 25 years of experience in the restaurant and bakery industry, agrees. “Roasting the vegetables first elevates the soup, concentrates the flavors and lets you skip thawing the squash, since it can go straight from the freezer to the pan,” he says.

And Chef Christina Musgrave, creator of Tasting with Tina, uses the same approach for both soup and pasta sauce. “Roasting brings out the natural sweetness of the squash, and blending brings perfect silky texture for soup,” she says.

Why does roasting matter? Frozen squash contains plenty of moisture, and freezing disrupts its cellular structure, causing it to release water as it cooks. Roasting at high heat helps evaporate that excess moisture and encourages browning, developing deeper, more complex flavors than simply blending after it thaws.

The result is a more flavorful starting point for soup or anything else you’re making.

4 Chef Tricks to Make Frozen Butternut Squash Soup Taste Gourmet

Here’s what the chefs we spoke with recommend doing to frozen butternut squash to really help its flavor shine.

1. Roast it straight from frozen.

If you’ve been thawing your frozen butternut squash before cooking, our chefs have some good news: You can skip that step entirely.

Littley recommends roasting frozen squash at 425°F. Start by spreading the cubes in a single layer on a baking sheet, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle on your seasonings.

Webster takes a similar approach for his recipe, roasting the squash at 425°F alongside diced potatoes, carrots, onions and garlic. Roasting everything together builds flavor and eliminates the need for a separate sautéing step.

The key is not overcrowding the pan. Give the vegetables enough room to brown rather than steam.

2. Build layers of flavor before blending.

Butternut squash has a naturally sweet, mild flavor, making it an excellent canvas for bolder seasonings.

For a Portuguese-inspired butternut squash soup, Webster recommends adding a tablespoon of tomato paste, two teaspoons of cumin and one teaspoon of cinnamon to the vegetables before roasting.

“As the veggies roast, the sugars in the tomato paste help everything caramelize evenly, and the spices toast, deepening their flavor,” he says.

Musgrave agrees, adding that seasoning is key when starting with frozen squash. She recommends building flavor with garlic, brown butter and crispy sage for her creamy butternut soup.

3. Balance sweetness with fat and acid.

One of the easiest ways to elevate butternut squash recipes after it’s blended is to balance its natural sweetness with something rich or tangy. For Musgrave, that means creating “depth through acid—like apple cider vinegar or lemon juice to give it extra flavor.”

Littley agrees that a small amount of acid can make a noticeable difference. “That little bit of acidity balances the natural sweetness of the squash and brings the other flavors together,” he explains.

The secret is to continue building layers of flavor. “Fresh sage or thyme, a good-quality stock, [and] a little heavy cream or crème fraîche can give the soup a luxurious finish,” he says.

4. Finish with texture and contrast.

A good garnish does more than make your dish look pretty. It can add crunch, richness and contrasting flavors that make the finished result more interesting.

Littley suggests toasted pumpkin seeds, a swirl of crème fraîche or a drizzle of brown butter with crispy sage leaves.

For his Portuguese-inspired soup, Webster recommends good-quality olive oil, chopped parsley and toasted bread rubbed with garlic. For something heartier, he suggests crispy chorizo or linguiça, a Portuguese sausage.

These finishing touches are small, but they can make a simple frozen vegetable dish feel like something you’d order at a restaurant.

How to Keep Frozen Butternut Squash From Getting Mushy

Roasting frozen butternut squash before blending it into soup is one thing. But what if you want to serve those golden, caramelized cubes as a side dish? That’s where things get a little trickier.

Because frozen squash contains extra moisture, getting those crispy, browned edges can be a challenge. But according to Littley, it’s entirely possible with the right approach.

First, skip the thawing. Cook the squash straight from frozen to avoid adding even more moisture to the equation. Then, crank up the heat. Littley recommends roasting at 425°F, spreading the cubes in a single layer with plenty of space between them. “When the pieces are crowded together, they release moisture and steam instead of developing those delicious browned edges,” he says.

And if you have an air fryer, even better. Littley recommends cooking frozen squash at 375°F to 400°F in small batches, shaking the basket occasionally to encourage even browning.

Just remember that frozen squash will naturally be softer than fresh, even when roasted properly. The goal is tender centers with flavorful browned edges, not necessarily the firm texture of freshly cut squash.

Beyond Soup: 3 Delicious Ways to Use Frozen Butternut Squash

Soup may be the obvious destination for a bag of frozen butternut squash, but our chefs have a few other ideas worth stealing. From an unexpected comfort-food upgrade to a creamy pasta sauce, these dishes prove that frozen squash deserves a little more space in your dinner rotation.

1. Butternut Squash Mac and Cheese

Mac and cheese probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when you open a bag of frozen butternut squash, but it’s one of Littley’s favorite ways to use it.

He recommends cooking the squash until tender, then pureeing it into a cheese sauce made with sharp cheddar and Gruyère. The squash adds a creamy texture and subtle sweetness that complements the rich, savory cheeses. Plus, it’s a clever way to work another vegetable into a family favorite without making it feel like a compromise.

2. Creamy Butternut Squash Pasta Sauce

Musgrave takes a similar approach, transforming roasted frozen squash into a silky sauce that’s practically begging for a bowl of pasta.

Her method starts by roasting the squash to develop its natural sweetness, then simmering it with garlic, shallots and broth. Blend everything with cream and Parmesan, and you’ve got a rich, velvety sauce that tastes like fall in a bowl.

For a little extra personality, Musgrave suggests Calabrian chili, garlic and ricotta, or white miso with roasted garlic and crispy shallots.

3. Butternut Squash Tostadas

And if you’re looking for something a little less expected, Webster’s butternut squash tostadas offer inspiration for giving roasted squash a Mexican-inspired twist.

While his published recipe uses pumpkin rather than butternut squash, the same sweet-and-savory idea could work with roasted frozen squash. The key would be roasting the cubes until their moisture has evaporated and their flavor has concentrated, then using them as a topping for crispy tostadas alongside your favorite savory ingredients.

It’s a reminder that frozen butternut squash doesn’t have to end up in a soup pot. With a little heat and some imagination, it can be the starting point for all kinds of delicious dinners. In the 1960s, four musicians from Liverpool changed popular music forever. Now, more than half a century after The Beatles broke up, their fellow artists are helping put them at the top of another all-time list.

The Beatles were just named the No. 1 greatest band of all time in a massive new ranking from Consequence, which enlisted more than 70 artists to help determine the 100 groups that changed music, shaped culture and inspired generations.

And the competition behind John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr wasn’t exactly lightweight.

Black Sabbath finished at No. 2, followed by The Velvet Underground at No. 3, Miles Davis’ Second Great Quintet at No. 4 and Radiohead at No. 5.

The Rolling Stones landed at No. 6, followed by The Clash, Fleetwood Mac, Nirvana and Led Zeppelin to round out the Top 10.

But when it came to the No. 1 spot, several musicians made a compelling case for The Beatles.

“The bar that they set, I don’t think anybody else in that genre can reach,” KISS frontman Paul Stanley said.

Taking Back Sunday bassist Shaun Cooper pointed to the sheer depth of The Beatles’ music, while singling out one member for particularly high praise.

“I think there’s so much to them. Great pop. Paul McCartney is the greatest bass player of all time,” Cooper said. “You can’t go wrong with them.”

Kenny Loggins also put The Beatles at the top, citing Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and “all the talent in that band.”

The ranking wasn’t simply compiled from a staff vote.

Consequence previously surveyed more than 200 musicians for rankings of the greatest individual singers, guitarists, bassists and drummers. For its new bands list, the publication sought input from more than 70 artists, including 16 Grammy winners and multiple Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, before its staff rounded out and curated the final ranking.

Contributors were asked to consider bands rather than solo performers or loosely assembled pop groups. Consequence defined a band as a stable group, at least for some period of time, whose members contributed original musical ideas, released music under a shared name and performed live.

The Beatles ultimately emerged from that sprawling field at No. 1.

Danny Rocco, who performs as Des Rocs, said the Fab Four “defined what it means to be a modern band” while writing some of the greatest songs in music history.

But perhaps the most emphatic endorsement came from Greta Van Fleet drummer Danny Wagner, who argued that The Beatles’ influence is so pervasive that modern musicians may not even realize how much they owe the group.

“Every artist who’s become an artist in the modern day is an artist because of The Beatles, whether they know it or not,” Wagner said.

He called the band a “prototype,” praising its willingness to experiment, break new ground and remain unapologetically itself.

“Everything goes back to The Beatles at some point,” he added.

It’s a remarkable legacy for a band whose recording career lasted only a matter of years.

The Beatles released their first album Please Please Me in 1963 and their final studio album Let It Be in 1970. In between, Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Starr helped reshape everything from songwriting and studio recording to the very idea of what a rock band could be.

More than five decades later, musicians who followed in their wake are still making the argument that nobody has surpassed them.

Or, as Paul Stanley put it, The Beatles set a bar that no one else has been able to reach.

Fans are about to meet a much younger 007 than they’ve ever seen before. Big Finish Productions on YouTube announced a new project, Young Bond: SilverFin, which will be an audio drama bringing a younger Bond at school. Isaac Rouse will take on the iconic role, voicing the character.

No, there are no plans to turn this into a big-screen release. As of now, the production will be audio-only, releasing on Oct. 29, 2026.

The announcement for SilverFin involved Rouse heading to Eton College, where he dressed up in a school uniform to shoot a trailer for the upcoming drama.-

While shooting, Rouse shared, “It’s a very unique situation. We haven’t seen James Bond on camera in this environment before.”

And it’s true. Each of the times Bond has been on the big screen, it’s been as an older, world-traveled spy. However, fans of the novels have certainly met this younger version. Silverfin is the name of a novel by Charlie Higson, which focuses on Bond’s time at Eton College, offering a way for new fans to get into the stories.

In the novels, the storyline takes place in the 1930s. After all, the original Bond novels were set in the past, shortly after World War II. It’s not clear whether the Big Finish Productions series will set the story in the book timeline or opt for a more modern-day approach, similar to the more recent James Bond movies. Of course, it doesn’t really matter when there’s nothing physical on the screen.

Higson will have another novel coming out on Nov. 17, 2026, according to Men’s Journal. King Zero will be set in the present day.

This is a huge part of 007’s life, as it’s a time for him to figure out who he is and what he wants to achieve as a person. However, there’s only a short period of time to handle storylines at Eton, as he’s expelled after his first year.

While the character in the Higson novels is only 13, Rouse is a little bit older. This made it a little challenging to find a uniform that would be accurate for the age of the character in the story, but that would fit Rouse. The good news is there won’t be much of an issue with that in filming since it’s an audio production only.

They also share some things not to say that can actually make the situation worse—and nobody wants that. The 1 Phrase That Instantly Disarms an Arrogant Person

When it comes to disarming an arrogant person, Dr. Menije Boduryan-Turner, PsyD, a licensed clinical psychologist, says to use the phrase “I see your point.” 

“Starting with validation not only disarms people quite easily but also sets the foundation for a win-win discussion,” she tells Parade. “Other ways to validate include ‘Tell me more’ and ‘I hear what you are saying.’“

The Psychology of Why This Phrase Works

Now, there’s a reason that this phrase works when disarming a pompous person. 

“It is a disarming technique because, from the start, you engage from a place of validation,” Dr. Boduryan-Turner explains. “Validation disarms the other person by showing them they don’t have to ‘argue’ or debate with you; you are already willing and able to see things from their perspective. Starting with validation not only disarms people quite easily but also sets the foundation for a win-win discussion.”

This can be hard for many people because practicing validation in a difficult conversation often creates confusion. We tend to falsely think that it means we are “giving up” or “caving in,” but in reality, affirmation is an effective tool to disarm and find a path to a healthy negotiation, according to Dr. Boduryan-Turner. 

What *Not* To Say: 3 Phrases That Actually Feed Arrogant Behavior

It’s important to understand that there are some phrases that you can say that will likely feed arrogant behavior and make it worse. 

1. “Do you have a problem with me? You don’t have to be so rude about it…”

Dr. Emily Soukhanouvong, PsyD, a licensed clinical psychologist at ChangeWell Psych, says that this gives the other person plausible deniability with “I wasn’t being rude, you’re overreacting” and often causes them to double down rather than back off.

2. “Yeah, you’re totally right… my bad…” 

“This kind of forced flattery can feel insincere, and it reinforces that the behavior is acceptable—often at the cost of your own self-esteem, or the long-term health of the relationship if it’s one that matters to you,” says Dr. Soukhanouvong. 

3. “You have no idea what this is like”

“When you attack a person’s character to try and get them to reflect on themselves, they tend to be defensive instead of reflective,” says Dr. Shannon Franklin, PsyD, co-founder and Director of Clinical Training at Element Q Healing. “Don’t explain too much about your point either. It will come across as if you are seeking validation from the other person.”

How To Handle Arrogance in the Workplace vs. Personal Relationships

You’ll also want to keep the situation at hand in mind whether or not you’re dealing with arrogant people at work or at home. 

When dealing with smug people at work, the environment and stakes are a bit different. 

“Specifically, handling conversations with arrogant people at work may ultimately have different consequences than it would in your personal life,” Dr. Boduryan-Turner reveals. “One of my favorite communication tools is timing. Try your best to have a conversation with an arrogant person at a time that works best for you, meaning a time that you don’t feel too exhausted or overwhelmed and are able to stay calm and collected.”

If you’re at work and you can’t get out of a conversation, you can stay aware of your internal experience and try saying something like, “I am short on time (or) I am really tired right now, so I would love to listen to you and maybe get back to you another day.” 

Dr. Soukhanouvong adds that at work, social expectations and power dynamics often mean you have to edit your responses carefully.

“At home, you may have more room to be direct, but it still comes down to what matters most: do you want to prioritize being right, or protecting the relationship? With loved ones, you often can’t fully choose one over the other,” she adds.

At home with someone important in your life, instead of arguing about who is right or smartest, Dr. Franklin says to maintain your focus on facts, make a decision and establish boundaries in conversation. If someone interrupts or diminishes you, calmly refocus the person with “I’d like to finish what I was saying,” she recommends, adding, “Your purpose is to defend your space and limit the number of interactions that are competitive.”

Quite a few of the most famous pieces of literature come with some controversy. For instance, the publication Collider recently released a list of “the 10 most controversial books of all time.”

The ranking, published on October 13, featured novels like 1932’s Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, Philip Pullman‘s The Amber Spyglass, released in 2000, American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis, published in 1991, and 1986’s It by Stephen King. Collider put J.D. Salinger‘s often-banned 1951 coming-of-age novel, The Catcher in the Rye, at the list’s top spot.

According to the publication, The Catcher in the Rye deserved the title of “the most controversial book of all time” because of the dark incidents surrounding it, specifically, Mark David Chapman’s 1980 murder of John Lennon.

The publication also noted that the narrator Holden Caulfield’s feeling of isolation and focus on the world’s hypocrisy makes it a raw and polarizing read.

The Catcher in the Rye holds a score of 3.80 out of 5 from 4,024,902 readers on Goodreads.

J.D. Salinger’s Son Said His Father Felt Like an Outsider, Much Like Holden Caulfield

In a 2019 interview with Penguin Books UK, Salinger’s son, Matt Salinger, shared that his famously reclusive father, like Holden, viewed himself as an outsider.

“He didn’t feel like he belonged from the time he was a little boy. And much of his growing up had to do with finding a place, finding people that he did belong with. He didn’t find it in the military. He didn’t find it in schools. He found it in books and study and in spirituality. He considered books and authors to be his friends,” said the 66-year-old during the 2019 interview.

The actor also complimented his late father, who died in 2010 at the age of 91, for writing authentic characters with great empathy.

“I was reading the books, and his sense of humor. They are funny, and they’re imbued with the best of him. His love, his kindness, his empathy,” said Matt.
