How Big Do Golden Retriever-Dachshund Mixes Get?

When it comes to their physical characteristics, you could get a wide range when it comes to size for this Golden Retriever Dachshund mix.

They can stand from 11–24 inches tall and weigh 30–60 pounds, according to GoldenRetrieverGuides.com.

It's hard to see how big Krish is in the video and their full size will really depend on which genes they get from which parent.

As for the coloring of a Golden Weiner dog, if they inherit their pigment from their Retriever parent they will have that same Golden coloring.

Dog parents spend hours picking out the perfect kiddie pool for their fur babies, imagining long sessions of zoomies, splashes and a generally happy puppy. Then the dog jumps in and takes a long drink from it, deciding the pool is just a large bowl.

One dog mom on Reddit had a plan, but her dog, seemingly a Great Pyrenees, had other ideas. Like many others before her, she ended up buying a pool for her dog, only for it to become a large drinking bowl.

So, she did what most pet parents do when their dog does something strange and unusual. She posted on Reddit's r/WhatsWrongWithYourDog, and the comments flooded in. Her reality became a funny story, giving many people a chance to drop in and share their own experience.

Some Dogs Don't See the Point of Swimming

While plenty of dogs would happily jump into the pool, some dogs do not like swimming. Puppies, for example, approach water on their own terms. The original poster's dog is six months old, and she decided the pool can be used for drinking.

The Reddit post quickly attracted stories from pet parents with similar experience.

"At least yours gets in, mine will stand outside of it to drink out of it," one Redditor wrote. Another joked, saying, "My guy will walk in the pool while drinking, like he's training for David Letterman."

Another pet parent shared that their dog has a refined taste: "My dog loves the wading pool water so much it has to stay up for most of the year so she can drink her fill. I think she finds it best when it's been rained in and a few leaves are floating around. I call it her doggie tea."

A Dog With a Special Feature

OP's Great Pyrenees deserves a proper introduction, because she is not just any pup. This dog has a special feature on her head: a receding hairline. It's a smooth, bare recession across the top of her head that puts her in rare company among dogs.

One commenter noticed the thinning patch of fur and asked about it. Her mom gave him the best answer: "Because she's so full of love (forehead kisses)."

This dog, standing in the new pool and calmly drinking water from it, is a beautiful lady who has been kissed so many times on the forehead that she has arrived at a distinguished-looking hairline.

The Internet Understood the Assignment

What followed was a flood of wonderfully ridiculous husky moments. One pet parent shared a photo of a young black-and-white husky sitting in the center of what used to be a pillow or a stuffed toy. Stuffing covers every inch of the door, and the dog sits in the middle of it, with his tongue out and looking extremely pleased.

Another photo showed a white husky with a pink collar, claiming a chair and making the most of it. With eyes half-closed, she looks like a person comfortable watching television on a Sunday afternoon.

Then there was the husky sitting alone in the kitchen, like he was punished for something. Facing away from the camera, staring directly at a wall oven, it feels like a dog who locked in on something in his head.

One of the most relatable photos was a large gray and white husky, who, mid-walk, decided that he was done. With the leash still attached, this husky was fully embedded in a hedge, with his body disappearing into the shrubs.

Besides the photos, some husky parents decided to share stories of their loved ones. One commented, "Every time my husky sighs I always ask him, 'It's tough not paying bills, huh?'"

Another talked about how his puppy became obsessed with her reflection. That husky insisted on bringing toys and treats to the "friend" in the mirror.

Huskies, the Social Media Stars

The Reddit thread has more than 500 responses, and almost 500 slightly broken dogs — and it keeps growing. What ties all of them together is the thing the original creator mentioned in the caption: "a dog who is fully present and completely absent at the same time."

Husky pet parents understand that personality better than anyone else. What makes huskies fun is their independent decisions. They are not going to sit quietly and take direction.

Instead, they are highly vocal and will get into arguments with anyone who tries to tell them something. Add in their expressive face, and you have a dog that is constantly on the verge of saying something important.

How to Care for a Persian Cat's Fluffy Coat

In general, cats are pretty good at grooming themselves — even Persian cats, who tend to have a bit more fur than many other breeds. But from time to time, they might need a little help from their favorite human.

Cats.com points out that Persians' fluffy hair can end up getting matted very easily, so it's important to help your kitty out once in a while by brushing their coat. This is especially important, since mats can cause sores on their skin that can be very painful.

And there are a couple of added bonuses to brushing: It will help with the shedding they tend to do all over your house, and they will likely cough up less hairballs, so everybody wins. Well, except for the cat, who might not love hair brushing time.

Mom went looking for Dad. What she found instead was Walter, sitting in Dad's office chair, staring directly into the camera, live on Dad's meeting call.

First, the camera pans across the room: a golden retriever’s asleep under the desk in a blanket, completely oblivious. Why Dogs Love Crashing Your Work-From-Home Setup

According to Barkbusters, it comes down to just how much time dogs spend right next to you once you start working from home. Instead of leaving home for an office every day, you're around all the time, and your dog figures that out fast. They’ll nap near you, and the second they wake up, they check in with you. Usually it works.

It works because they get rewarded. When a dog nudges you, barks, or climbs into your lap during a call and you respond, even just to quiet them down, they learn that interrupting you gets your immediate attention. If you do that enough times, congratulations — you've been instantly promoted to Walter's ‘assistant’.

The fix isn't complicated. Give your dog their own personal space during work hours, reward the calm moments instead of the interruptions, and schedule in real breaks so they know attention's coming, just not constantly.

Niall Harbison encounters street dogs with serious injuries and medical conditions through his Thailand animal rescue, Happy Doggo. Some canines have such serious issues, their survival or quality of life is put in major jeopardy.

Espresso is a Dachshund mix puppy that Harbison brought to the rescue after she was poisoned. Although her prognosis was bleak, Harbison and his team never gave up on the canine cutie and now she's thriving.

Last month, Harbison was called in by local residents to help Espresso, who was in critical condition.

"Five weeks ago, she was poisoned and nearly died," the on-screen text shared as the video showed Espresso writhing on the ground, and later getting tended to at the Happy Doggo medical clinic. "She lost all power in her body. She couldn't even walk for weeks."

At first, the team's main goal was keeping Espresso alive. Once she was stable, the precious pooch began a recovery journey and stunned everyone with her progress.

"After 5 weeks of tests, exercises, hospital trips, special treatments and lots of love, not only is she walking but she is even running now," the caption revealed as Harbison worked with Espresso to strengthen her legs, with following clips of her trotting across a grassy field.

Espresso Is a Fighter

The fearless fur baby was completely committed to overcoming every challenge that came her way and continues to show remarkable resilience. Espresso is now able to run, and the joy on her face is evidence of her amazing transformation.

In addition to physical care, Espresso is surrounded by love, affection, and support from the entire Happy Doggo team. They are all dedicated to her full recovery and making sure she feels safe and loved.

"She is proof that where there is hope, there is always a chance," the caption noted. "She will continue her rehab with us for the coming weeks and months and one thing is for sure… she won’t be going back on the streets."

Harbison gave props to his staff and a special shout out to Espresso, concluding, "A real team effort on this one and nobody tried harder for this day than Espresso herself."

When my Maine Coon, Meatball, was a kitten, he had the sweetest little face. Even when he was causing absolute chaos, he somehow looked completely innocent, like he'd never committed a crime in his life. But not every Maine Coon kitten gets that memo.

He definitely has opinions about thermostat settings. He absolutely reminds the cashier that something scanned for 50 cents less in the weekly ad.

And if another kitten steps on his lawn?

There will be words.

The funniest part is that underneath all that "I've seen things" energy, he's still just a tiny fluffball being held by his breeder. He probably weighs less than a bag of sugar, yet somehow carries himself like he's been giving unsolicited life advice since 1963.

I have no doubt that in a few years he'll grow into one of those enormous, majestic Maine Coons who look like they should be sitting in a leather recliner reading the newspaper while muttering about how music used to be better.

Until then, someone should probably get this little man to bingo before he misses the early seating.

I have watched this video more times than I'd like to admit.

Not because anything dramatic happens, but because my brain absolutely refuses to accept what it's seeing.

Mosquitoes track the carbon dioxide and body heat you give off while you sleep, and ants and spiders move indoors chasing cooler, humid air and the crumbs near nightstands. Your bed is warm, still, and CO2-rich for eight hours straight — to a pest, that is an ideal target." 

Along with this, the open windows and doors usually allow for these pests to have a clear and direct path into your home. 

The 5-Step Nighttime Routine to Pest-Proof Your Sheets

One of the best ways to avoid pests in your bed during the summer is to prevent them. Taking the time for a quick five-step nighttime routine can help you avoid those pesky bug bites in the morning and prevent feeling critters while you sleep. 

To keep your room clean of summer pests, Kyle Turner, president and CEO of Pro Active Pest Control in El Dorado Hills, Calif., recommends following a quick five-step nighttime routine that starts with keeping food and drinks out of the bedroom. While difficult, especially for those with young kids, this is one of the most vital steps to ensure a clean space each night. 

The second step is to pick up clothes from the floor to give pests fewer places to hide. Next, ensure all windows and doors are shut to prevent critters from crawling in at night for refuge. 

The fourth step includes taking a glance under the bed and around the headboard for any pest activity. If you've been traveling during the summer, the fifth step is to keep luggage off your bed and inspect it before storing it to avoid small travelers burrowing in your bed.

Why Routines Don't Replace Preventatives

While these steps can help avoid pests, they aren't permanent solutions to keeping them out of your home. The best way to avoid summer pests is to use comprehensive preventive measures. 

As Ricky Young, owner of Young's Pest Control, explains, good housekeeping is only a small part of the solution. Although having clean spaces is important, it doesn't eliminate the problem of pests. 

Instead, Young recommends "sealing gaps around pipes, doors and windows, repairing damaged vents, brickwork and roof areas, managing outdoor vegetation close to the property, storing food correctly throughout the home, and identifying and dealing with infestations before they become established."

These property maintenance steps, coupled with good housekeeping, can be your best bet for keeping pests out of your space this season. 

What to Do If You Actually Find a Bug in Your Bed

Despite your best efforts, there are still ways pests can shimmy through into your home. If you happen to find a bug in your bed, there are several actions you can take. 

"Do not grab a can of bug spray and do not move to another room — both can scatter the problem into other areas of the home," Newton warns. "Instead, capture the bug in a sealed bag or a piece of clear tape so it can be identified. Getting rid of a pest issue is easiest when the pest can be immediately identified because treatments differ from pest to pest. Strip the bedding and run it through a hot dryer cycle, then leave the mattress and frame in place and call a licensed professional for an inspection."

The most important part to remember is to avoid panicking, as this can only aggravate the issue. 

Summer pests are a normal part of the season, but that doesn't mean you have to deal with them in your home. Taking preventive steps and following good housekeeping rules can help keep your bed and sheets clear of unwanted visitors — and with a few nightly habits in place, you can spend the season enjoying long summer nights instead of sharing them with uninvited guests.

My dogs aren't overly energetic, yet they seem to find their inner athlete when I break out the plush toys. Both my senior Dachshund and my Pug mix could be relaxing on the couch about to doze off, yet will immediately stand at full attention when they hear their squeaky toys. In the TikTok from @sam.and.aylee, the canine cutie was just chilling in her backyard with an expression on her face like she was daydreaming. All of a sudden, she jolted to attention with her eyes widening like saucers. Aylee's ears quickly went back, showing she was ready for action. What caused the quick change?

Fun Facts About Australian Cattle Dogs

These pretty pooches are referred to by many different names including Australian Heelers, Blue Heelers, Queensland Heelers, Queensland Blue Heelers, and Red Heelers.

The "heeler" moniker is due to how these working dogs nip at the heels of cows that they're herding. These canines have been known to playfully nip at human ankles as well, especially when they want something.

Australian Cattle Dogs are born white and get those beautiful markings as they get older. Their coats are usually a mottled blue, black, tan, or rust color. They are considered highly intelligent, rugged, and very obedient.

There's a workday coming up, and these two French Bulldogs couldn't care less.

The TikTok from @lavenderlattekaylin opens on Latte and Lavender curled up together, completely nonchalant and unfazed by whatever day it is. Then the video does exactly what the caption promises. It goes full vacation. What started as a lazy Sunday somehow turns into a full five-star resort experience by the end of the clip. Latte, all squishy tan face and round eyes, and Lavender, sleek gray coat and those signature bat ears, standing at full attention, show up lounging under an umbrella in sunglasses like they've got somewhere important to be tanning. Then it's room service in the hotel room. Then poolside. Then a cabana. Then dining al fresco, because apparently unemployment comes with a whole itinerary.

No bills. No alarm clock. No workday dread. Just two Frenchies fully committed to vacation mode.

Why French Bulldogs Are Built for a Life of Leisure

Turns out, this is basically their whole personality.

According to Philly Frenchie, French Bulldogs were originally bred as companion dogs for lace workers back in the 1800s, not as working or athletic dogs. Their whole design leans into leisure. They've got a low center of gravity and short, sturdy legs, so quick bursts of play are their thing, but a long run or hard exercise really isn't. A five-mile jog is a hard pass. A five-minute zoomie followed by a long nap is much more their speed.

Their flat face plays a role here too. This shape can make breathing harder, especially when it's hot or humid, so keeping them cool and not pushing them too hard actually matters for their comfort and health. All that lounging isn't laziness. It's often exactly what their bodies need.

Life with a cat can feel like a mystery novel at times. Though, keep in mind that because each kitty is unique, happy cat signs can range from affection to more sublte clues that are communicated through their body language and behaviors. "Bonding can look different for every cat," explains Dr. Chyrle Bonk, DVM, an Embrace Pet Insurance veterinarian contributor.

Because of this, it's good to remember that when a cat loves you, they'll drop hints, though it may not happen over night. "Bonding can take time, and it's always best to go at a pace set by your cat," explains Dr. Bonk.

Dr. Bonk adds that you can also get on your cat's good side by ensuring they have all the resources they need to live a great life, like food, water, a bed, exercise and mental stimulation. "Most cats figure out that these resources are associated with you, which will make them feel content and comfy in your presence if you don’t push them too hard by forcing them to spend time with you or invading their bubble when they’re not willing," she notes.

To find out how your cat feels, start looking out for hints that can show you your cat trusts you and is happy, like them purring, kneading and slow blinking. Once you start noticing them, you'll be able to decode what your cat is trying to tell you and you'll know how amazing of a cat mom or dad you truly are.

8 Signs Your Cat is Happy and Comfortable A cat who is bonded with its owners.

Cats have a reputation for being "grumpy," however, your fluffy companion is probably low-key dropping clues that they're thrilled to call you their human. Dr. Bonk shared seven signs that your kitty is loving their life with you and how they communicate that.

1. They slow blink

Signs your cat is happy can be easy to miss, especially this when a cat slow blinks at you. You might not even think it's a sign of affection even if you do notice it. However, Dr. Bonk says this is how cats talk with their eyes and say they're content with their surroundings and company—that means you!

"Cat are more likely to slow blink when they are completely relaxed and willing to let their guard down," Dr. Bonk explains. "It can be easy to miss because you may think that your cat is simply sleeping."

2. They softly gaze into your eyes

Another behavior of a happy indoor cat can be detected from their eyes. Dr. Bonk notes that while eye contact can sometimes a sign of dominance when directed at another cat, kitties feel differently when they look at people.

"When a cat softly stares at you, often accompanied with a slow blink, it usually means they are content, comfortable and happy," Dr. Hunt says. "They’re interested in what you’re doing, but also comfortable just being in your presence."

3. They display a question mark tail

Did you know your cat can use its tail to commuicate if it feels comfortable or not? Dr. Bonk shares that most cat owners don't realize that when the tail of their cat is curved, there's little question that it points to good vibes. According to pet experts, cats usually form "question mark" tails as friendly greetings. How cute is that?

"This means your cat recognize you as part of their family and may be inviting you to play or they are showing their curiosity for where you’ve been and what you’ve been doing," Dr. Bonk says.

Either way, only cats who love their pet parents and feel happy and safe around them do this.

4. You see them “loafing”

Cats "loaf" by lounging on their sides with relaxed muscles, which you admittedly have to look hard to see. Yet, vets say seeing your cat lounging around constantly is actually a good sign.

"Cats are very vulnerable when they are lying down or sleeping," Dr. Bonk points out. "Lounging in your presence shows that they feel secure enough with you around to let down their guard and relax."

So the next time you see your furry family member doing this, just smile because it one of the things cats do when they are feeling good and like their environment.

5. They pounce and play

What does a happy cat look like? They can't contain their playfulness! So while it can be downright silly to see your cat "hunt" their favorite toys (or their own shadow), it's a positive behavior. After all, cats don't show their silly selves to just anyone.

"Play hunting in front of you or at you shows that your cat is excited to be with you and wants you to play," Dr. Bonk reveals. "If a cat doesn't feel safe around you, they won’t try to play with you, so this is a good cat sign to watch out for."

6. They have softly fanned-out whiskers

When it comes to cat-human bonds, your kitty’s face can reveal more about how they’re feeling than you might realize. In fact, Dr. Bonk shares that a cat's whiskers are as expressive as its tail. But since they're thin and almost translucent, it's often easy to not notice them. So, what does a cat's whisker position means?

"Whiskers that are soft and fanned out mean that a cat is relaxed and content," Dr. Bonk shares. "Soft whiskers are often paired with slow blinks and soft stares. On the other side of things, whiskers that are pinned back mean that a cat is upset or threatened."

The next time you notice your cat’s whiskers resting naturally outward, take it as a subtle sign that your feline friend feels safe, comfortable, and at ease in your presence.

7. You hear soft purrs

Why do cats purr? For many reasons, actually, including to self-soothe and express comfort. A cat's understanding of purrs begins in kittenhood, which is how Dr. Bonk says cat moms and newborns communicate. Fastforward to later when they live with you, your cat may use it to express their love and happiness with you.

"Purring when you’re around shows that they feel as comfortable and secure as they did as babies," Dr. Bonk says. "Soft purring can be missed if it isn’t loud enough for us to hear and we instead have to feel it."

8. They enjoy kneading

No, your cat isn't trying to get in on the sourdough bread trend when they are kneading. Instead, Dr. Bonk says cats "make biscuits" rhythmically by pushing their paws into something soft, like a blanket or your thigh, which is another behavior cats begin doing quickly after birth. Dr. Bonk says kittens use this motion to stimulate milk flow so that they can eat.

As they grow, they can use it to show that they're relaxed and happy with you. Therefore, when your cat settles in and starts kneading your lap, consider it a sweet compliment—it’s often a sign they trust you and feel completely at ease with you.

So was Kylie really feeling the beat, or is this just how dogs move sometimes? Turns out there's real research on whether dogs actually respond to music.

Do Dogs Actually Respond to Music?

Short answer: yes, dogs really do react to music, though maybe not in quite the way Kylie's mom expected when Bad Bunny started playing.

According to Triangle Animal Clinic, dogs hear a much wider range of sounds than we do, which means Kylie's probably picking up on something in that song we're not even noticing.

There's actual research behind this too. Dogs exposed to soft rock and reggae in a study from the Scottish SPCA and the University of Glasgow seemed noticeably more relaxed and content. Classical music calmed them down as well, just not for as long. A separate study from Colorado State University found that shelter dogs were less stressed when classical music was played, though that effect faded once they got used to hearing it.

As for whether Kylie's reaction is trained or just natural, Triangle Animal Clinic says it's less about training and more about paying attention. They recommend watching a dog's body language when music plays. A wagging tail, relaxed posture, or a happy, engaged expression are all good signs your dog's actually enjoying the music, not just reacting to noise.

So Kylie moving to a beat isn't as random as it looks. Dogs really can pick up on rhythm and sound in ways researchers are still figuring out, and it varies a lot from dog to dog and song to song. Bad Bunny isn't exactly on the vet-recommended chill-out playlist, but whatever's happening in that beat, Kylie's clearly into it.

Dogs, unlike cats, read social signals and adjust their behavior accordingly. If a dog faces a cat that is not backing down, they can either push harder and escalate, or back off and let the cat win. Diesel tried to protest, but he, too, eventually backed off.

Sometimes, the smallest pet is the one that makes the rules.

Do Cats Really Sense a Baby's Needs?

There is no scientific evidence to suggest that a cat can necessarily know what a human baby needs. However, cats are highly perceptive and very aware of environmental changes, so something like a baby would absolutely be on their radar.

Cats are attune to things like hormonal changes, new scents and smells, and changes to their spaces. Something like a new baby is inherently going to shake things up, making a cat very aware that things are about to be different.

Like most other pets, cats are also very locked into routine. So when something is very different, they're going to notice and adapt accordingly. Cats are absolutely creatures of habit, so a big change in their habits is going to make an impression on them.

For a lot of cats, they're also protectors of their family. A new baby is indisputably vulnerable and will likely invoke that kind of guardian behavior in the family cat.

All in all, cats are likely going to always be very aware and observant when it comes to adding a new tiny family member to the bunch. But luckily, with patience and supervision, they'll also likely be the best of pals in no time.
