Dogs in shelters have no choice but to wait until they are chosen for adoption. While puppies and small dogs are usually snatched up quickly, larger and older canines tend to linger.

Marmalade is a Pit Bull mix who sadly earned the title of her shelter's "longest resident." Thankfully, she relinquished that moniker because now she's part of a forever family.

Day after day, she would sit in her kennel wondering if anybody was ever going to come for her. That rainy afternoon, Marmalade walked out of the shelter for her freedom ride. We watched the shelter’s longest resident leave with the family she had been waiting for all along. As we followed her to the car, we were all soaking wet, walking through the rain with huge smiles on our faces, because somehow, we all knew that this little dog had hit the jackpot. Ever since that day, Landon has kept me updated with countless pictures and videos. Marmalade, who is now named Harley, absolutely adores her new brother, Max. They spend their days playing together, cuddling, and making up for all the time they lost. The TikTok from @sharing.lov3 told Marmalade's story from "longest resident" to enjoying her "freedom ride."

"A few days ago, I posted a video about Marmalade, the shelter’s longest resident," the caption explained as someone approached the pretty Pittie's kennel with an "I've been adopted" sticker. "Day after day, she would sit in her kennel wondering if anybody was ever going to come for her. I ended that video by saying, 'Maybe tomorrow.'"

Turns out, the post about Marmalade was shared far and wide and reached someone who was instantly smitten with the friendly fur baby.

"That same day, a very sweet person named Landon reached out to me and told me he wanted to adopt Marmalade," the story continued, revealing that Landon made the 7-hour drive with his dog Max so he could pick up the newest member of their family as soon as possible.

The following day, Marmalade and Landon met in person for the first time and it was an instant match.

"When they finally arrived and met Marmalade, it was love at first sight," the caption read. "The moment they met, she melted into his arms and instantly fell in love with both of them."

Marmalade Is Thriving With Her New Family

That fateful day was Marmalade's last in the shelter. Since embarking on her "freedom ride" to her new home, she has been getting all the love, affection, and special treatment she deserves. The canine cutie even has a new name and a special bond with her fur baby brother.

"Marmalade, who is now named Harley, absolutely adores her new brother, Max," the caption noted. "They spend their days playing together, cuddling, and making up for all the time they lost. Landon has cooked her steak, salmon, bought her new pajamas, and spoiled her with all the love she deserves. Every day, he shares new updates, and every single one makes me happier than the last."

But wait .... there's more! Harley is now being prepared for a very special purpose.

"Just when I thought Harley’s story couldn’t get any sweeter, Landon shared one more piece of news: he recently paid for Harley to begin training to become a service dog," the post announced, and praised Harley's dad for giving the pooch such a wonderful new life.

"Freedom looks so good on you, Harley," the story concluded.

A lot of viral animal videos are loud, dramatic, and full of chaos.

During a hazy, smoky morning run, the woman behind the video noticed baby geese pecking at a littered frozen yogurt cup. That detail is sad on its own. These little goslings were investigating trash on the ground, and on a rough air quality day, they were likely just trying to figure out if it could help them somehow.

So she filled the cup with water.

Not a huge rescue mission. Not a big production. Just a runner pausing long enough to turn someone else's litter into a tiny water station.

Then the geese found it.

The babies gathered around, and the whole scene softened instantly. Suddenly, that discarded cup wasn't just trash. It was useful. It was relief. It was a little roadside drink stop for a family trying to get through a hot, smoky morning.

But the moment everyone latched onto came from one of the adult geese.

After the woman set the water down, the parent seemed to look right at her. The video caption says it felt like an acknowledgment, almost like a thank you.

Geese have a reputation for being feathery security guards with personal space issues, so seeing one appear to calmly accept help is strangely moving.

Puppy litters are typically not born at the same time. Breeders will try to stagger the litters to prevent crossover and overwhelm, which can lead to some pretty funny visuals.

Kodiak Labs is keeping Summer, the older Lab, away from the babies for safety reasons. She's so much bigger than they are, and they're trying to eat in this video specifically: if they let bigger dogs around during feedings, the babies might get bullied and be unable to eat.

Summer couldn't have cared less about the food, though: all she wanted was to play with the babies. Hopefully, as they get older, they'll be able to play with her at least a little before moving on to their forever home!

Gated within the home is a fine way to raise puppies, even if it means puppies who are twice their size get a good look at them every now and then. All they want to do is play!

For the first four-ish weeks of life, your puppies should only come in contact with their own siblings and mother. Contact with older dogs or puppies should be avoided, especially if they're starting to go on "adventures" outside.

Older puppies can start to play with younger ones when:

• Someone is available to keep an eye on them.

But let's be perfectly clear: Even if Rolo had a scowl on his face, he would still be just as handsome — that's how good looking this dog is. Between that pretty dapple pattern and those blue eyes, who wouldn't fall in love with him at first sight?

I'll be honest, I did not have "Xzibit is an elite cat dad" on my 2026 bingo card.

Mermazing Maine Coons is home to a lot of cats, and they care about them all very much! This cattery wants to make sure there's not too much stress on a new mama, so whenever they need to, they love stepping in to help feed the babies.

This baby doesn't have a name yet: they're leaving that up to her forever home. Though they haven't said if she does this when she's feeding directly from Mom, too, I feel like she definitely does.

Should You Supplement Kitten Feedings?

Kittens can and, in some cases, need supplemental feedings. Small cats, or cats who had large litters, might not produce enough milk for all of the kittens. In that case, you can either completely rely on milk replacer or supplement nursing.

There are some signs of an under-producing mama cat, including:

• Constantly noisy kittens, even after just nursing.
• The kittens aren't gaining weight.
• They're dizzy, dazed, or disoriented.

Don't panic if that's happening to your kittens: call your vet and get in as soon as possible. You can get kitten milk replacers in a lot of pet stores until you can get a personalized recommendation from your vet... But you can't make the kittens' ears dance! They have to do that on their own!

Senior dogs in shelters are often overlooked by potential pet parents due to possible health issues and shorter lifespan. The chaotic environment is tough for these older pooches, where many end up after spending most of their lives in a home. In the TikTok from @cassondrachristman, Ruger was sadly lying on the ground in his kennel when a staff member came in to keep him company. He was brought to the shelter after being abandoned.

"He was found wandering, lost," the on-screen text explained. "His [parent] did not come for him."

Apparently, Ruger is a former resident of the shelter and had been there nine years earlier. The staff member brought him a cozy bed and saw how the senior pup was emotionally drained.

"Ruger could barely climb onto his bed," the story continued. "He laid down exhausted. He must be so confused. He was at the shelter 9 years ago. But a [parent] came to get him then."

There is no background information on Ruger from the last nine years, but he is clearly heartbroken from being deserted.

Ruger Has a Heart Condition

A follow-up post revealed that Ruger has a heart murmur, which may make it even more of a challenge to get him adopted. Yet the canine cutie's condition hasn't tainted his heart of gold.

While his age and health may be a deterrent to potential pet parents, the team at the Maui Humane Society is encouraging adopters to give Ruger a closer look to see his loving and gentle spirit.

I've seen plenty of cute kittens, but these tiny Maine Coon Kittens sporting milk mustaches are in a league of their own. After enthusiastically polishing off breakfast, the fluffy little felines proudly wore the leftovers across their tiny faces and bodies, creating an irresistibly adorable scene.

The charming moment was shared July 6 by Utah's @mainegreekgarden cattery, and judging by their content little expressions, every messy bite was worth it.

The milk mustaches weren't nearly as noticeable on the ginger kittens, but the darker-colored babies proudly wore their breakfast for everyone to see. Their satisfied little faces suggest mealtime was a huge success, even if it left them looking more than a little messy. Thankfully, cats are expert groomers, because these little fluffballs had quite the cleanup ahead of them.

Why Mealtime Gets So Messy for Kittens

According to Dr. Krista Seraydar, DVM, writing for PetMD, kittens typically begin weaning around 4 weeks of age, although some show interest in solid food as early as 3 weeks. The transition from nursing to solid food generally takes two to four weeks, with most kittens fully weaned by about 8 weeks.

During this stage, messy faces and spilled food are completely normal because kittens are still learning how to eat independently. Dr. Seraydar also notes that young kittens often treat mealtime as playtime, making a quick cleanup after eating just another part of raising healthy, happy kittens.

Just like finding a pet product that doubles as something useful for yourself, CVS's new pharmacy update is a great way to streamline your and your pet's needs, no matter how busy the week gets. Pet-only medications like antibiotics, allergy, flea and tick control, insulin, and pain relievers will all be available at participating CVS Pharmacies, effectively expanding your access to essential pet health care. 

But the good news doesn't stop there. Pet prescriptions will also be eligible for many of the same pharmacy services available for human prescriptions, including automatic refills and prescription syncing, helping make ongoing care easier to manage. Select medications may also be available for delivery, giving you even more flexibility when it comes to caring for your furry friends.

How It Works

If you'd like to fill your pet's medication at CVS, all you need to do is present a written prescription or ask your veterinarian to contact the pharmacy directly. Once CVS Pharmacy receives the prescription, you can choose to either pick it up in store or have it delivered to your home, if eligible.

You can also add your pet to your CVS.com profile and manage eligible pet prescriptions through the CVS Health app, making it even easier to keep track of ongoing medications and stay on top of your pet's needs.

Beyond prescriptions, CVS is also expanding its pet care offerings with everyday essentials for both dogs and cats. As the program continues to roll out, you can expect to find things like dog and cat food, grooming supplies, flea and tick care and other wellness products, giving you even more options when shopping for your furry friend.

In the TikTok from @winniethelabrador, the precious pooch was nose-deep in her breakfast and enjoying every morsel. Winnie didn't finish her entire meal and walked away from the camera for a moment. When she came back, she had her favorite plushie in her mouth.

Winnie placed her beloved toy toward the food bowl, almost like she was gently feeding it. The black and fuzzy stuffed animal dog actually looked a lot like Winnie. The canine cutie obviously considered the plush toy her own 'baby'.

Luna the black panther and Venza the Rottweiler have lived under the same roof since Luna was eight days old.

In 2019, a traveling zoo reached out to Venza's mom after Luna's mother rejected her newborn cub. She agreed to take the kitten in and later purchased her from the zoo's management, who had planned to sell her.

Venza, already a full-grown Rottweiler at the time, became Luna's first companion and her primary trainer.

Years later, their mom put Luna and Venza to the ultimate intelligence test: Who is smarter, a dog or a cat?

Three Games to Decide a Winner

Using sausages as treats, Luna and Venza's mom had the pair compete in three games to find out the winner.

The first task saw a treat placed under an upside-down bowl, with the goal of retrieving the treat. Venza worked out the mechanics and ate the sausage quickly, winning round one. Luna completed the task, but she took more time.

For the second task, their mom hid the treat under a towel. Luna tried to shake the towel and eat through it. Eventually, she got to the treats. Venza, on the other hand, sniffed them and moved the towel to uncover the treats.

The final task was a three-cup shell game, with one cup concealing a treat. By the end of the video, Venza claimed the winner's crown. Still, Luna did well, too.

How Rare Are Parti Yorkies?

So how rare are blond Parti Yorkies?

First of all, let's define what a Parti Yorkie actually is.

Classic Yorkshire Terrier coloring is usually black and tan to start, and then gradually changes color by the time they are 3 years old.

Other color combinations for Yorkies include blue and tan, blue and gold, and black and gold.

Some Yorkies do remain black and tan if they lack the gray gene, according to Hepper.

With a purebred blond Parti Yorkie, those classic colors—black, brown, tan, blond—show with large patches of white.

Parti, which stands for particolored, means the dog possesses two distinct colors.

The coloring of Parti Yorkies is determined by a naturally occurring recessive piebald gene, often referred to as the S locus (the white-spotting locus), which means the puppy will only inherit it if both parents are carriers.

Though they do look very different from other Yorkies, their color has been recognized by the American Kennel Club since 2000, according to Sidewalk Dog.

It should also be noted that Parti Yorkie coats are long, straight, and silky, and like all Yorkshire Terriers, their coats naturally change over time.

Over the past couple of years, the TikTok community has fallen head-over-heels in love with NYC dog foster mom Isabel Klee, who's famous for taking in pups who have little to no chance of getting adopted. Whether it's a medical foster, a dog with severe behavioral issues, or a senior pup who might not have much time left -- Isabel opens her arms and her home, giving these tiny souls a chance to heal and experience real love.

Of course, Isabel isn't alone in her journey. Her amazing fiance Jacob is right by her side to comfort each and every animal -- as is her beloved and trusted sidekick -- her senior dog, Simon.

Sadly, as anyone who follows Isabel already knows, Simon suffers from epilepsy and has also been battling liver cancer. And earlier today, Isabel shared a heartbreaking update with her followers, letting everyone know that she and Jacob have made the heart-wrenching decision to help Simon cross the Rainbow Bridge this week.

As one of my fellow co-workers said to me a little while ago, "This broke me." Honestly, I think thousands of people all over the world are sharing in that same sentiment right now, which is evident from the comments on the clip.

Simon's Legacy of Helping Other Dogs Heal

All dogs are a gift, and they're all special in their own way. But there's just something so unique and magical about Simon. It's like he was put on this earth to remind heartbroken and forgotten animals that they are important, loved, and that they matter. With each foster Isabel brings home, he instinctively knows how to approach each one and reassure them that everything is going to be ok. If there truly are angels here on earth, Simon is an angel in dog form.

Take Tiki, for example, the little pup who was so fearful and shut down, he initially hid from humans. Somehow, Simon helped draw him out of his shell -- and he taught him how to be a dog again.

Then there was Darla, who Simon taught how to play again... just look at how relaxed and happy she is to be with him.

Even in Simon's final days, he was there to comfort and love a new little friend, Fluffy, who was staying with Isabel and Jacob for one night.

In an odd twist of fate, Fluffy seemed to sense that Simon was unwell, and he gently started to care for him.

I know I'm not alone in sending Isabel and Jacob so much love, strength, and wishes for peace this week as they spend Simon's final days showering him with all of the adoration, comfort, joy, and affection he showed to so many pups over the years... Not to mention the pure happiness he brought to so many people across the world when he popped up in our social media feeds each day.

He will be so missed but never forgotten, and his legacy of unconditional love will remain a source of inspiration forever.

We love you, Isabel, Jacob, and Simon. Thank you for being the bright spot in all of our days and bringing love and joy to so many.
