Sublime lands another remarkable feat on its list of accolades, securing a new milestone as the '90s ska-punk and reggae rock band continues its legacy.

As the genre-bending group composed of Jakob Nowell on lead vocals and guitar, longtime members Eric Wilson on bass guitar and Bud Gaugh on drums, the trio has earned a new No. 1 hit.

Amid its busy 2026 touring schedule, Sublime shows no signs of slowing down, especially in the alternative rock scene, with "Until the Sun Explodes" climbing to the top spot on the U.S. Alternative Mediabase chart, a weekly music ranking that tracks the most-played songs on Alternative Rock radio stations across the country.

Released on June 12, the title track from their highly anticipated fourth studio album honors the lasting legacy of Sublime's late frontman, Bradley Nowell.

“‘Until the Sun Explodes’ the album is an epilogue, and ‘Until the Sun Explodes’ the single is the epilogue to the epilogue,” Jakob Nowell, the son of the late lead singer, mentioned in a press release, as cited by Consequence. “It is a tribute to the expansive works of Sublime; it is an acknowledgment for all that my father has done for me my entire life, and most importantly, it is a thank you. I love you, Dad, and I owe you my life.”

While the newly released track continues to receive positive feedback from listeners, Until the Sun Explodes is the band's first studio album in 30 years.

The last studio album they released was the 1996 self-titled album, which includes breakthrough songs like "Santeria," "What I Got" and "Doin' Time."

According to the 31-year-old vocalist, “the last Sublime record that will ever be made is Self-Titled,” he said, adding, “There’s no replacing history, period.”

Amid the release of their comeback album, Sublime is also busy with festival appearances and headlining tours this year, including Sublime Reef Madness Cruise, a four-night music-focused festival vacation and concert cruise taking place Nov. 15 through 19.

If you had to guess what the top five most successful albums of the 1960s were, chances are the first bands you might think of would include the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and maybe Pink Floyd or Fleetwood Mac.

You'd be right on a couple of counts: The Beatles had both the bestselling and the fifth bestselling albums of the decade with Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band (32 million copies sold) and Abbey Road (19,973,949), per Far Out. In second place, however, was Iron Butterfly's 1968 smash hit In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, which sold a whopping 30 million copies...more than Abbey Road, the Who's Tommy and the Doors' self-titled debut (each with 20 million).

Over 60 years later, it's not like Iron Butterfly has been forgotten about or anything; the title track on In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (the band's biggest hit) is still a classic rock radio mainstay. Still, they never quite reached the status of the Beatles, the Doors or the Who. So how did they manage to outsell three of the biggest albums from those bands?

Much of the In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida the album's popularity can be attributed to "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" the song, a nearly 20-minute-long epic that took up the entire second side of the vinyl record (it was chopped down to under three minutes for radio). The track peaked at #30 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the only Iron Butterfly single ever to crack the top 50. The album, however, went all the way to #4 on the Billboard 200, and stayed in the Top 10 for 81 weeks, with a total of 140 weeks on the charts overall. In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida was even the first album ever to be certified platinum in the U.S.

A 2024 retrospective review by Classic Rock called In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida "the sound of summer 1968."

"These days its reputation is predicated on the sprawling title track," the review continued, praising it as a "cultural phenomenon" from an album "where dysfunctional psychedelia meets a pumping garage sound — like listening to Led Zeppelin on the wrong drugs."

Sadly, while some of the original members of the Beatles, the Who and the Doors are still with us, none of the musicians from Iron Butterfly's classic lineup are alive today. Organist/vocalist Doug Ingle died in 2024 at the age of 78, drummer Ron Bushy died in 2021 at the age of 79, bassist Lee Dorman died in 2012 at the age of 70, and guitarist Erik Braunndied in 2003 at the age of 52.

Over the years, however, Iron Butterfly has continued with an ever-rotating assortment of members. According to the band's official website, the group was playing live as recently as 2025 with a lineup including guitarist Eric Barnett, keyboardist Jawn Star, bassist Dave Whiston and drummer Bernie Pershey.

Actress Sadie Sink is opening up about her time playing Max Mayfield on the hit five-season Netflix series, Stranger Things.

During a July 2026 interview with Entertainment Tonight, promoting her upcoming film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Sink was implored to reveal "the biggest gift" she received from playing Max. Sink shared that she deeply values her friendships with her former Stranger Things co-stars, which include Caleb McLaughlin, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Maya Hawke, Finn Wolfhard, and Noah Schnapp.

"I mean, it brought me to a lot of my closest friends," said Sink during the Entertainment Tonight interview.

Sink also said she has an appreciation for the character.

"It also just like was nice to go back every season and still be excited to play that character. And I'm going to miss her a lot. And it's obviously kind of brought me more opportunities through the work I did on that show. Yeah, it's a huge blessing," said Sink.

Sink also explained why she "can't really say goodbye to" Max, despite the show ending in late 2025.

"We're kind of the same person in a lot of ways just 'cause I was so young when I started playing her," said Sink.

Sadie Sink Opened Up About Auditioning for Max Mayfield

In a November 2025 interview with Teen Vogue, Sink shared some details about her audition for Max, whom she began playing during the show's second season, which premiered in 2017. She said that she wasn't told Max's name or which characters she was interacting with in her audition scene. She said, however, that she was able to correctly guess she was supposed to be talking to Dustin (Matarazzo) and Lucas (McLaughlin).

Sink also shared that she based her performance for Max as someone she wanted to emulate at the time.

"I remember in the audition when I was like, 'Okay, who is this Max character?' It kind of came naturally because she was everything that I wished that I was, how cool she was and laidback and maybe sarcastic and sure of herself she was. So, I just kind of embodied that and had to get rid of, like, sweet little Sadie for a bit," said the 24-year-old actress while speaking to Teen Vogue.

The legendary rock band Rush can't be stopped once it gets going. The band might be taking on another major project after the ongoing reunion tour wraps up, as sources claim Rush is in talks for a Las Vegas residency at the Sphere.

The first rumblings of a potential deal came last week, when Eddie Trunk mentioned it on his Sirius XM radio show. He claimed that it was almost a "done deal" that Rush would perform "16 to 18 shows next year."

The Sun recently reported on the rumors as well. A source told the newspaper's Bizarre column, via the Rush is a Band blog, "Talks have been secretly going for a while, but the word is that contracts could be locked down in the next couple of weeks."

The source also touched on the venue's plans for the near future, saying that the Sphere aims to "map out a moving roster of acts who can come in and out for the next five years."

Another major artist who is rumored to have signed on for a residency there is Pink. The same source said, via Yardbarker, that "after years of promoters trying, she has finally landed a deal that will see her play a massive residency in Sin City."

"The Sphere were determined to land Pink and pulled out all the stops, both in terms of money and what they can offer for a live show," they went on. "An announcement is set to be made in the coming months and no doubt tickets will sell out in no time."

Fans interested in a potential residency from either Rush or Pink should keep an eye out for an announcement in the coming weeks. But as of now, these are unconfirmed rumors.

In the meantime, Rush is busy on its Fifty Something tour featuring Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and their new touring drummer, Anika Nilles. The tour has already had many memorable moments for fans since it started in June, including a full performance of the 20-minute song "2112" for the first time in almost 30 years.

Rush's tour will continue throughout 2026 and into 2027, with the band traveling all over North America, South America, and Europe.

Ella Langley has added another major milestone to her breakout year after her hit single "Choosin' Texas" remained at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a 14th consecutive week, tying one of the longest runs at the top of the chart by a solo female artist.

The country singer celebrated the achievement on her Instagram Story by sharing the latest Billboard chart with the caption, "14?! This is insaaaane" alongside a mind-blown emoji.

According to Billboard, "Choosin' Texas," which first reached No. 1 in February, now matches Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together" and Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" for the most weeks atop the Hot 100 among non-holiday songs by women without male-billed collaborators.

The accomplishment also places Langley second only to Mariah Carey's holiday classic "All I Want for Christmas Is You," which holds the overall record with 22 weeks at No. 1.

With its 14th week atop the Hot 100, "Choosin' Texas" now sits alongside some of the biggest songs in Billboard history. The updated list of the longest-running No. 1 hits by female acts without male-billed performers includes:

• 22 weeks – "All I Want for Christmas Is You" – Mariah Carey
• 14 weeks – "Choosin' Texas" – Ella Langley
• 14 weeks – "We Belong Together" – Mariah Carey
• 14 weeks – "I Will Always Love You" – Whitney Houston

The latest chart run means Langley has now surpassed several iconic chart-toppers, including Brandy and Monica's "The Boy Is Mine," as well as Destiny's Child's "Independent Women Part I" and Toni Braxton's "Un-Break My Heart."

Billboard reported that "Choosin' Texas" remains one of the strongest-performing songs across multiple music consumption platforms.

The single also continued to dominate Billboard's supporting rankings. It stayed at No. 1 on Streaming Songs for a 15th week, No. 1 on Digital Song Sales for a 13th week and remained No. 6 on Radio Songs after previously reaching a peak of No. 4.

Meanwhile, the hit extended its lead on the Hot Country Songs chart to 32 weeks while also spending a seventh week atop the Songs of the Summer chart.

‘Choosin' Texas’ Continues Strong Sales and Streaming Success

The chart-topping single has become the year's biggest hit by combining strong streaming, digital sales and radio performance.

Earlier this month, the song also reached another milestone on Billboard's Digital Song Sales chart, collecting its 12th week at No. 1 before extending that streak further. Industry data showed the single continued to lead digital sales despite a slight week-over-week decline, remaining the nation's top-selling song.

Its continued commercial performance has helped keep it at the top of the Hot 100, which is based on a combination of U.S. streaming, radio airplay and sales.

While Langley continues rewriting chart history, other artists also reached new milestones this week.

Country singer Stella Lefty earned her first Hot 100 top 10 as "Boston" climbed to No. 6.

Meanwhile, Olivia Dean scored the No. 1 song on Billboard's Radio Songs chart with "So Easy (To Fall in Love)," while maintaining two songs inside the Hot 100's top 10.

Langley's latest chart success comes during an already busy year for the Alabama native.

Over the weekend, while opening for Morgan Wallen during his Still the Problem Tour stop in Baltimore, the singer experienced a wardrobe malfunction after her dress came undone early in her set. 

According to People, she later explained the incident on Instagram Stories, writing, "Yesterday my entire dress came unzipped on song #2 in a 60-minute set in the pouring rain in a stadium full of people."

She completed the performance after changing into an oversized Baltimore Ravens jersey before later joining Wallen onstage to perform "I Can't Love You Anymore."

Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro continued its competition tonight with the 10 remaining dancers paired off and a solo elimination.

Hosted by wildlife conservationist and Dancing with the Stars Season 34 Len Goodman Mirrorball Champion Robert Irwin, Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro, began with 12 exceptional up-and-coming dancers who moved into one house to compete in a grueling audition process, all vying for a coveted spot as a pro dancer on Season 35 of Dancing with the Stars.

Three-time Mirrorball champion Mark Ballas and his mother, Shirley Ballas “The Queen of Latin” served as judges.

“You need to make a huge impact. Don’t waste one single second on this dance floor,” Shirley said when asked what the dancers need to do to get to the next level.

Mark added, “Some of you are coming into tonight feeling great about last week and some of you are maybe feeling defeated, but remember every challenge is a new test of skills. So, wipe the slate clean and attack with vengeance.”

The challenge for Night 2 was set by guest judge Brandon Armstrong, who has 10 seasons with DWTS, who informed the dancers they had to bring a personal story to life through dance, showcasing vulnerability and partnership.

“I want you to use dance to tell a story from your life that is meaningful,” Brandon said. “Story is essential as a pro. We are going to be looking for a clearly expressed narrative that sparks a strong emotional reaction.”

The pairs had to decide whose story they were going to tell and what style of dance they would use.

What I get excited about is when I give a note on one week and the following week I see an improvement. That was what I saw in both of you.”

Brandon: “I thought it was good in the studio, it was amazing to me. I didn’t see you struggling with sharing emotion at all. Top-notch and I really enjoyed it.”

Mark: “Natalie, from being in the bottom last week, I could tell you were coming for throats this week, and I love to see that. Erik, as men on this show, our job is to be the frame and you were that tonight. I loved the choreo, I loved the storytelling. Top-notch.”

Shirley: “I loved, Tristen, your attention to the detail. Even though there were technical things that were not perfect, you moved from foot to foot. You did not stand there like a prop. This connection between the two of you, this working together, I felt that in the team. I felt you did a good job.”

Brandon: “Tristen, ballroom to me and Latin is about two people dancing together. Being a partner is 50 percent of the battle. You showed up, performed and it came through.”

AJ PRITCHARD AND SELENA HAMILTON: JIVE

Shirley: “I am a little confused, AJ. You had jive last week. We said you played it a little safe. You had the click ball changes in the circle, you did it last week. You did a kick to the side, you did it last week. You need to come here with some creativity. It will not wash in the United States, the same choreography in a different format. It won’t work. Having said that, the partnering skills are outstanding. Selena, you shone for sure and I actually think you ate him for lunch. I want you to believe this and hear it from me, you are amazing. You don’t miss a beat, you are on balance, you’re down the camera lane, I felt you did an amazing job.”

Brandon: “I actually like that it was the only upbeat song on the night. There are very few people who have reached the heights of winning the British Open Championship, which then in turn means there are very few people who can relate to that.”

Mark: “I would agree with that. To me, it felt like too many slows with this type of song. If the music is driving, we’ve got to be giddy-upping the whole time. So, it comes down to choice. Technically today, it just lacked a little umph.”

Brandon: “Allen, first and foremost, beautiful. I would love for you to remind us what it’s about.”

Allen: “When I was 15, I lost my mom, but when that first season of Dancing with the Stars came out, and we were watching it together, she turned to me and said, ‘My dream is for you to be on that show.’ I had this opportunity to tell the story of dancing with her for the last time.”

Brandon: “I got emotional watching this. I will think about this until the day I am no longer here. Congratulations. I thought it was amazing. Unbelievable.”

Mark: “I will just say this. Adele, I would be happy to dance with you and Allen, I will be happy to dance next to you.”

Shirley: “Even though my eyelashes are coming off here, I got your story. The quality of the movement from both of you was outstanding. For me, the best number of the night. It was by far one of the most beautiful things I have ever witnessed. Well done.”

Then the judges decided which couple had the least compelling story and out of that couple, one dancer went home. That couple was Nina and Benji with Benji having danced his last dance.

“Looking back on my journey, I was most proud that I was able to represent the entire Latino community, and that I stayed true and genuine to myself,” Benji said. “I always put my best forward, so I truly believe that no matter who I was partnered with, it was my time. To be here was a massive honor.”

Below Deck Mediterranean left deckhand Luke Brumer’s fate hanging in the balance after he told Captain Sandy Yawn he believed he should leave the boat.

Luke and Stew Genevieve Lillie’s hookup in Bosun Nathan Gallagher’s bed sent shockwaves through Akira One after the pair failed to clean Nathan’s sheets following their encounter. Unaware of what had happened in his cabin, Nathan slept in the bed for a few nights before Luke finally admitted the truth.

At first, Nathan was so stunned that he couldn’t help but laugh. But that disbelief quickly turned to anger as the reality of the situation sank in—ultimately leading him to bring the matter directly to Captain Sandy.

Shocked, Captain Sandy said the situation was a first in her yachting career and explained the seriousness of what happened.

"Never, ever have I had this happen in my yachting career," Sandy said. "When you work together and live together in such close quarters, you have to be respectful of your shared living space. That's part of the STCW class that we take. Otherwise, it could break down working relationships; it could break down everything. This is bad."

Seemingly ready to fire Luke, Captain Sandy reached out to yacht staffing professional Norma to find a replacement deckhand. But with no immediate replacement available, she instead called Luke to the bridge to inform him he was officially on notice and that she would be filing a report.

Luke became emotional during the meeting and expressed remorse for his actions. While Captain Sandy didn’t come down on him as harshly as he feared, Luke understood his position was still at risk.

Although he wasn’t immediately fired, Luke quickly realized Nathan wasn’t ready to forgive him. He attempted to apologize during the charter, but Nathan wasn’t interested in engaging.

Later, alone in his bunk, Luke muttered, “How ironic, you make your bed and lie in it.”
But even after multiple apologies, Nathan remained angry.

“I've lost Nathan's trust and respect, I can see it in his eyes...he's not letting this one go,” Luke said in a confessional. “I'd rather be fired than work with a bosun who thinks I'm a piece of s—t.”

After realizing Nathan was still furious a day and a half later, Luke believed there was no way to repair the damage. He radioed Captain Sandy and asked to meet her on the bridge.

Tearing up during the episode’s final moments, Luke told Captain Sandy he believed he should leave the boat—and she didn’t push back on his decision.

Jelly Roll’s daughter, Bailee Ann DeFord, is speaking out about her father’s divorce from Bunnie XO.

During a TikTok Live on Sunday, July 19, the 18-year-old passionately defended her father while addressing the public scrutiny surrounding his split.

“Don’t y’all ever come for my father’s name like that again. I’m so done," Bailee said.

“Get the f–-k out of my DMs, out of my comments, my life with that s–-t. I don’t care,” she continued. “I don’t want to talk about it.”

DeFord also backed up both her father and stepmother, who have repeatedly denied that infidelity played a role in their breakup. However, she hinted that the real reason behind the divorce would surprise fans.

“Y’all have no f–-king idea what happened, and wait ’till y’all find out. Just f–-king wait,” Bailee said. “Because I promise y’all, the view of what y’all have of not only the situation, but their relationship and the internet in totality is about to f–-king crumble the day that I open my mouth.”

“It’s not a difference in f–-king opinions. Nobody else lived in it, so don’t f–-king even. I’m for real so done," she added.

This isn't the first time DeFord has weighed in on her dad's relationship. After news of the divorce first broke in May, she called out fans who were prying into her family's private life.

“I am disgusted at how invested everyone is in a very clearly private family matter. It’s fkn crazy,” the teen wrote over a photo of herself in bed shared to TikTok. “Go on somewhere yall. Worry ‘bout your house—not mine. I’m not speaking on it—yet.”

The search for Today co-host Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, has stretched into its sixth month, and one former federal investigator believes answers could be waiting in the rugged desert surrounding Tucson, Arizona.

Former FBI Agent Points Investigators Back to the Arizona Desert

Former FBI special agent Jennifer Coffindaffertold The Express Tribune on Sunday, July 19, that authorities should widen their efforts into the desert terrain beyond the areas already covered.  In her view, the punishing landscape makes searching difficult, but that same difficulty means evidence overlooked in the investigation's earliest days could still be out there. She added that investigators should stay open to returning to those areas as the case develops.

Meanwhile, the investigation has involved drones, helicopters, search-and-rescue teams, and forensic specialists, while the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI have fielded an estimated 40,000 to 50,000 leads, according to NBC News.

Coffindaffer also laid out her case Friday, July 17, in a post on X that paired photos of Nancy with Thelma Gaston, a millionaire who went missing from California in 1981 at 80 years old.

Gaston's story stayed unresolved for more than 40 years until advanced DNA testing recently identified her remains near Sugarloaf Mountain, The New York Times reported. 

Her killer, Lawrence Remsen, a man romantically linked to her, was handed a life sentence. The former agent, who has tracked the investigation since Nancy's February 1 abduction, drew a straight line between the two cases. "This is exactly why searches need to be conducted for Nancy," she wrote.

Guthrie, 84, was last seen at her home just north of Tucson around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, January 31. Her family reported her missing the next morning, Sunday, February 1, after she failed to show up for church.

Investigators soon declared the property a crime scene, and authorities continue to believe she was abducted. Weeks into the case, the FBI released the first public images of the footage pulled from her Google Nest system, which showed an individual approaching her front door in dark gloves, a zip-up hoodie, sweatpants, a backpack, and a balaclava. Despite the images, no suspect has been publicly named.

Her family has offered up to $1 million for information on her whereabouts. At the same time, the sheriff's department put up a separate $50,000 reward for tips leading to "the recovery, and/or the arrest and conviction" of anyone involved.

At the same time, Sheriff Chris Nanos has maintained that the case remains fully active and cautioned the public about fraudulent fundraising pages and fake QR codes exploiting the Guthrie family’s heartbreaking tragedy. 

Officials repeated that law enforcement will never ask for donations tied to the search. Several purported ransom notes have also surfaced, though investigators believe many are fraudulent. Through it all, Savannah has marked each month since her mother disappeared with heartfelt public appeals, thanking investigators and supporters while holding onto hope that her mother will come home. 

The case now stands among the FBI's most high-profile missing person investigations of the year.

Things were almost completely different for Love Island USA Season 6 star Kenny Rodriguez, as the bombshell Islander revealed he was nearly on a different season of the Peacock reality series.

In an interview with The Journey Podcast, he was asked about how the Love Island USA journey came to be.

Rodriguez shared that a casting director from the show actually slid into his DM’s back in 2024. “I was telling my friends and joking as they DM'd me, and one of my friends sat down with me on Friday at dinner, and he's like, ‘You're going to fill out the application before we go out.’”

He agreed and filled out the application, “not thinking anything of it.” But the show quickly got back to him. “They hit me up. Um, we went through the whole process, blood tests, psych tests, interviews, everything, the whole nine yards.”

However, as he had to decide whether to get on the plane to Fiji or accept a sales job, Kenny was forced to explore his future. “

And my job offer and like the flight to Fiji. Rodriguez recalls that it “was one of the biggest decisions I've had to make.”

He spoke with his parents and ultimately decided that “I wanted stability. I wanted to just take on this adult life. So I went and flew to Dallas. I started the job.”

A year later, Rodriguez shared that it was fate; his phone was out of memory, and he was deleting information from his device, “and I see a casting director from Love Island. That's it had been a year. I just hit her up. ‘Hey, is there space? Can I have an interview?’”

The director was open: ‘Oh, of course.’ And the process went quickly. “In two days, I interviewed, and we started the whole process over again.”

During his time on Love Island USA Season 6, Rodriguez became one of the most popular Islanders on the series for his relationship with fan favorite JaNa Craig. Following the conclusion of filming the spin-off series Love Island Beyond the Villa, the two would break up after Craig allegedly found text messages Rodriguez had sent, which painted their relationship in a negative light.

Kendra Duggar’s parents are set to be deposed in their son-in-law Joseph Duggar’s child molestation case.

According to court documents obtained by Us Weeklyon Monday, July 20, Paul and Christina Caldwell will travel to the office of the Florida state attorney from Arkansas and provide a deposition to Joseph’s attorney that can be used “at trial, and/or for such other purposes as are allowed by law.”

Joseph was first arrested and charged for Lewd and Lascivious Behavior, involving unlawful sexual activity with a minor, in March. Days later, Joseph and Kendra were hit with additional child endangerment charges—unrelated to Joseph’s initial case.

Joseph pled not guilty in both cases and was released from detention in Florida after posting a $600,000 bond. His next court date for the child molestation charges is on Sept. 15.

Kendra, for her part, also pled not guilty to the child endangerment charges.

Kendra has reportedly distanced herself from her parents—along with her eight younger siblings—as she and her husband face ongoing legal issues.

“Kendra is not communicating with her family. The Caldwells have left the home they were living in and all of their belongings are in storage,” a source told Us Weekly in May. “They are still working out what their next steps will be. It has been an extremely stressful time especially given the circumstances.”

“Relocating is always difficult, especially with a large family and the stress they are under,” the source added. “They are considering a move out of state. Paul is looking for work to support the family because he had to leave his job.”

The Caldwells previously launched a GoFundMe in April to raise funds for housing and counseling services, noting they were facing a “difficult and urgent” situation.

According to public records, Joseph and Kendra sold a property to Paul and Christina for $10,000 in July 2021. 

In a jail call made to Joseph on Mar. 25, Kendra said that “my family said they’re moving out in a month and everybody is going to hold them to it.”

Kendra did not specify why her parents and siblings were moving out.

In April, Paul and Christinaspoke out about Joseph’s arrest for the first time via a statement posted to Instagram. 

“Our family is both troubled and heartbroken over the alleged actions committed by our son-in-law,” the statement said in part. “We are devastated for the young girl, a child who was courageous in every way to share her truth. We stand by her, both in support and prayer, and forever will.”

“We also recognize how traumatic this incident has been for our grandchildren as well and continue to pray for their strength. Our love for them, and our daughter Kendra, remains,” the Caldwells added.

Peter Lassally, a legendary late-night television producer who worked with Johnny Carson, David Letterman, and Craig Ferguson, died on Sunday, July 19, his family announced, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Nicknamed the "host whisperer," Lassally joined Carson on NBC’s The Tonight Show in 1969 and worked with him until the host retired in 1992. He then began working with Letterman, being an important part of the decision for him to leave NBC and move to CBS when Jay Leno was picked over Letterman to replace Carson. In 2005, despite having semi-retired, Lassally served as the executive producer for Craig Ferguson. He officially retired in 2015.

“I always had a good relationship with the hosts that I worked with because I would tell them the truth. That has really worked well for me. That’s how I got the title the ‘Host Whisperer,'” Lassally said in a past interview. “I’m not good at pumping sunshine up their rears. If I didn’t like it, I can’t fake it, I can’t pretend it was good. I’m very lucky the hosts respected that.”

Lassally was born in Hamburg, Germany, and his family fled the country in 1938 to escape the Nazis. However, they settled in Amsterdam, which was eventually invaded by the Nazis, and he, as well as his mother and two older sisters, were sent to concentration camps from 1943-45. He and his family moved to New York in 1947 after surviving the Holocaust.

He got his start as a member of the NBC page program at age 19, while also serving as a Radio City Music Hall.

Over the course of his career, Lassally won two Emmy awards.

Fans paid tribute following the news of his passing.

Kim Carnes, best known as the singer behind the hit song "Bette Davis Eyes," is turning 81 years old on Monday.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Carnes always had her sights set on becoming a singer-songwriter. She started her career in the late 1960s as a musician and performer, while also working as a background singer with the Walter Sisters for several years. Her first hit song was "Nobody Knows," which was written by Mike Settle and was featured in the 1971 film Vanishing Point, while "Sing Out For Jesus," another track in the movie, was written by Carnes but recorded by Willie Mae "Big Mama Thornton." That same year, Carnes signed with Amos Records and released her first solo album, Rest on Me.

Throughout the 1970s, Carnes and her husband Dave Ellingson co-wrote several songs with David Cassidy and released multiple albums and songs that placed on various smaller Billboard charts. Her third album, Sailin', put out in 1976, won multiple international awards, and one of the songs, "Love Comes from Unexpected Places," was recorded by Barbra Streisand.

"I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed greater rapport with a singer," producer Jerry Wexler wrote in his 1993 autobiography, Rhythm and the Blues: A Life in American Music. He was also the producer behind many hits sung by Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Dusty Springfield and Bob Dylan. Despite a Streisand cover, Carnes didn't recieve her first Top 40 hit until she collaborated with Gene Cotton in 1978, with whom she recorded the duet, "You're a Part of Me," which reached No. 36 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The success of 'Bette Davis Eyes'

In 1981, Carnes recorded the song "Bette Davis Eyes," which was originally written by Jackie DeShannon and Donna Weiss in 1974. Released as the lead single for her album, Mistaken Identity, "Bette Davis Eyes" spent nine weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became an international hit. The song led to Mistaken Identity becoming the No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 for four weeks, and became the biggest hit of 1981. In addition, the song won Record of the Year and Song of the Year at the 1982 Grammy Awards, as well as nominations for Best Pop Female and Album of the Year.

According to an Instagram post Carnes shared in October 2024, she is always asked for the story behind "Bette Davis Eyes." She wrote that Weiss brought her the original demo, and Carnes loved the lyrics but wasn't super confident about the production. She brought in her friend and keyboardist Bill Cuomo, and they came up with different chords. Carnes also brought her drummer Craig Krampf into the studio, and the new song was mixed by Niko Bolas.

"Bill Cuomo has never gotten the credit he deserves for completely changing the vibe and the chords," she concluded. "Bill made all the difference!!!"

"Bette Davis Eyes" was inspired by Hollywood actress and icon Bette Davis, who was known for her beautiful and dramatic eyes in the 1930s and 1940s. Throughout her 60-year career, Davis acted in multiple Broadway plays, melodramas, period films and comedies; winning the Academy Award for Best Actress twice and was nominated for 10 awards overall.

"I was flabbergasted, and I thought it was fun, and I thought the words were pretty terrific," the actress told Sunday Sunday in 1987. When the song came out, Davis was 73 years old. "As a matter of fact, I wrote the girl who wrote the words and asked her how she knew me this well."

The two ended up becoming close friends, with sources saying Carnes visited Davis at her home multiple times before the Dark Victory actress passed away from breast cancer in 1989.

What Kim Carnes is doing now

Though "Betty Davis Eyes" was a huge success, it ended up being Carnes' only No. 1 hit. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Carnes released multiple albums, including Café Racers, Barking at Airplanes, Light House, View from the House and Voyeur, the latter of which was nominated for Best Rock Vocal Performance at the Grammys.

Carnes released her last album, Chasin' Wild Trains, in 2004, which included songs co-written by Angelo Petraglia, Matraca Berg, Kim Richey, Al Anderson, Jeffrey Steele, Marc Jordan, Anders Osborne and Chuck Prophet, and was praised for its Americana and country influences. Throughout the 2000s, she continued to write and record songs for movie soundtracks; and in 2012 and 2013, she re-released some of her most popular albums, including Mistaken Identity, Voyeur and Café Racers.

At 81 years old, Carnes is still somewhat active in the industry. Now living in Nashville, the "More Love" singer spends most of her time away from the spotlight, but she still manages her music catalog and engages with her fans on social media.

She is currently promoting Universal Songs: The A&M, EMI America & MCA Years box sets, which is a 10-CD set that covers her 1975 to 1988 albums and also includes unreleased 12-inch dance mixes and famous duets.

While on The Odyssey press tour, star of Christopher Nolan's epic, Anne Hathaway, gave an update on sequel talk for the movie that started it all. While on SiriusXM's Radio Andy, Hathaway discussed where she and Disney stand on making The Princess Diaries 3.

Hathaway, who has been in talks for years to don the tiara once more as Princess Mia of Genovia, revealed to Andy Cohen, “I can say I think we had a story breakthrough,” she shared about the development process since the death of Garry Marshall, the beloved director of her 2001 breakthrough film and its sequel. Shortly before his passing, Marshall was eager to tackle the third film with both Hathaway and co-star Julie Andrews returning as Disney's favorite live-action royal family.

“I think we are moving in the right direction." Hathaway continued revealing, "The script that we were working on — we kind of had to start over with this new direction, which is not the update I think anybody wants, but we all feel really good that this is gonna be the one.”

The books the films are based on by YA author Meg Cabot lean into various storylines past the events of the two films that could be explored. However, the second film notoriously goes off-book, expanding the character roster with a movie-universe-only addition, a suitor for Mia, Nicholas Devereaux, played by Chris Pine in another star-making role. Fans of Pine and Hathaway's royal couple hope for Nicholas' return, and we can't help but agree and hope it's done in the style of The Crown. The Star Trek actor has been very coy about it, having toldJimmy Fallon he heard about the sequel's recent update earlier this year from being sent Anne Hathaway's post about it "on the internet" and how, for the past 20 years, it's the role he's most asked about.

The Princess Diaries 3, as of October 2024, has Adele Lim (Joy Ride) attached to direct. This update does come with a heartwarming caveat: there is not a set date just yet, as Hathaway is expecting another more imminent royal arrival. “I’m busy making baby number three, and that has sort of taken the place of knowing when exactly I can make Princess Diaries 3."

When it comes to the Blade film franchise, Marvel boss Kevin Feige has some very mixed feelings.

"I'm feeling very excited that we got Wesley [Snipes] back for a time in Deadpool & Wolverine," he told Joshua Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast. "And like a gigantic loser and failure that we didn't get off the ground with Mahershala [Ali]."

As fans know, the first film that introduced moviegoers to the half-human/half-vampire Blade came out in 1998. Blade, which grossed $131 million on a $45 million budget, went on to produce two sequels: 2002's Blade II and 2004's Blade: Trinity. But after the third film performed poorly at the box office, the film series stalled.

Ten years later, Snipes was asked if he wanted to make a fourth film.

"I am very much open to all of the possibilities," Snipes told The Hollywood Reporter in 2018. "If Blade 4 comes along, that is a conversation we can have."

"I think the fans have a hunger for me to revision the Blade character," he added.

The following year, news did come out about Blade, but with Ali attached instead of Snipes in the MCU reboot. After Feige and Ali made the announcement at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, there was a general sense of excitement.

Script and Director Woes

But then the pandemic hit the following year, and suddenly the film industry was announcing more and more canceled projects. Blade, for its part, seemed to be suffering from script, director, and production issues. Several writers and directors had been linked to the script, and David S. Goyer, who wrote the original film, offered to help and was turned down.

"In my mind, I think Blade is a relatively simple story," Goyer told Horowitz on Happy Sad Confused in 2025. "It's not complicated. And I always think when you embark on a movie like this, you have to distill down what is the promise of the movie."

Mahershala Ali Looks to the Next Chapter

A couple of weeks later, Ali also expressed frustration with the lack of progress and not knowing what was happening.

"I would love for Blade to happen," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "We’ll see, I don’t know where Marvel is at right now. I’m just looking for the next great part, I really am."

If there's anything the two-time Oscar-winner can glean from Feige's comments, it's that Blade is, sadly, not going to be that next great part.
