In July of 1973, Jeanne Pruett’s second studio album, Satin Sheets, reached the top of the Billboard Hot Country LPs chart (former name of the Billboard Top Country Album chart), spending eight weeks at No. 1. Part of the reason for that success was due to the title track, which served as the legendary singer’s first and only chart-topping country hit. 

Written by John Volinkaty, “Satin Sheets” was originally recorded as a duet by Bill Anderson and Jan Howard. The song appeared on their third collaborative album, Bill and Jan (or Jan and Bill). However, the duo’s release experienced little success and, according to CountryThangDaily, Pruett’s producer, Walter Haynes, believed a subtle change to the song’s introduction and beginning lyrics would be just what it needed to become a hit. 

He was right. 

Released in February of 1973, Pruett’s solo version of “Satin Sheets” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart and became her only entry on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 28. The tune also gained international attention, charting in Australia and Canada. 

“Satin Sheets” tells the story of a woman who feels emotionally unfulfilled in her relationship, despite having been given everything money can buy. Though she’s grateful to be surrounded by material wealth and luxury items, she shares the message that those comforts aren’t enough to keep her from exploring the genuine love she longs for. 

According to the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame, “Satin Sheets” only took Volinkaty, a native of the state, “five minutes to write, a year to sell, and three years to make it big.” And, over the years, many artists have put their own spin on the song. Among them are Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, and Martina McBride.  

Aside from “Satin Sheets,” Pruett, who was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 1973, is known for songs like “Temporarily Yours” and “Back to Back.”

Following her departure from Saturday Night Live, Chloe Fineman announced today that she will star in Netflix’s upcoming book-to-screen adaptation of Myron Bolitar.

The show is inspired by Harlan Coben’s 12-novel book series, following the protagonist Myron Bolitar. Bolitar, who will be portrayed by Colin Woodell, “reinvents himself as a sports agent — using charm, smarts and a ruthless partner to navigate the high-stakes and dirty world of sports, where saving his clients often means risking himself,” Deadline wrote.

Fineman will play Parker Quinn, a sports reporter for a sports publication “who has built a stellar reputation through hard work and an undeniable passion for the game.”

Fineman will star opposite Jabari Banks and alongside Ben McKenzie. David E. Kelley will co-showrun, write and executive produce the series.

“Taking a dramatic turn.. literally??” Fineman posted on Instagram. “9 years ago I did Big Little Lies impressions for my SNL audition tape. But I never thought that one day I’d actually get to be part of a David E. Kelley show. It’s a very cool surreal full circle moment and I’m SOO excited and grateful!”

Later, Fineman made another post on Instagram to show a clip of her SNL audition with lines from Big Little Lies. She captioned the post, “full circle 💕.”

The Myron Bolitar announcement comes only a few days after Fineman said that she would be stepping away from SNL. After appearing in seven seasons of the show, she said it was time to step into her “next chapter.”

“It’s really hard to leave SNL but it does feel like the right time,” Fineman said, posting a carousel of photos from the show on Instagram. “I’m going to miss it a lot. But the people who work there are my family and that place is my home, and I know I’ll never be too far away.”

Bob Dylan is giving fans another reason to celebrate as the rock legend announced additional dates for his 2026 tour.

For the past few years, the singer-songwriter has been on the road, touring across major cities for his Rough and Rowdy Ways World Tour.

In celebration of his 39th studio album of the same name, the iconic musician has shown no signs of slowing down and has been touring since 2021.

While the massive multi-year trek was initially scheduled to conclude in 2024, Dylan extended it with new legs and more dates and now returns to the U.K. for a string of shows in 2026.

In an Instagram update, London-based music agency International Talent Booking announced that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee is set for a 10-date trek, running from mid-November to early December.

Kicking things off in Bournemouth, the tour continues through Birmingham and Sheffield before a two-night run in Blackpool and a five-night show at London's Royal Festival Hall.

The legendary rock star's last performance in the U.K. came in 2024 when he played shows in Liverpool, Edinburgh, Nottingham, London and more for Rough and Rowdy Ways World Tour's 10-date run.

The latest announcement comes 65 years into Dylan's professional career, which has spanned from 1960 to the present.

Despite taking an extended break from touring after a motorcycle crash in 1966, the 2016 Nobel Prize winner once revealed why he continues to perform live.

“I keep touring because: it is a perfect way to stay anonymous and still be a member of the social order,” Dylan mentioned in a 2022 interview with The Wall Street Journal. “You’re the master of your fate. But it’s not an easy path to take, not fun and games.”

Currently, Dylan is set to wrap up his U.S. Summer Tour this July before heading to Europe, including a run of U.K. dates, through December.

Lucy Hale is mourning the sudden loss of her father.

The Pretty Little Liars alum, 37, took to Instagram on Monday, July 20, to reveal that her "sweet daddy" had died unexpectedly on Friday.

"I can't believe I’m writing this, but my sweet daddy suddenly passed away on Friday," Hale wrote alongside a carousel of new and old photos of herself, her father and their extended family.

"My dad was mind-numbingly funny, sensitive, and deeply kind. He adored his family, my step-sisters, all his grandbabies, his dogs (and mine), his lifelong friends, and my stepmom, Stacy—the love of his life," she continued. "He was so proud of his career in farming and of his hometown in Milan, Tennessee. A true Southern man with a genuine soul and a love for fishing, hunting, golfing, and farming. I will miss buying him Bass Pro Shops gift cards."

Reflecting on their close relationship, Hale described her father's love for her and her sister as "unconditional," calling it a "deep soul bond."

"And he unconditionally loved me and my sister. He never judged. Our relationship took on many forms over the years, but through it all was a deep soul bond," the The Unicorn actress shared. "Our last conversation was beautiful. The last time I saw him was beautiful. Our last phone call was perfect."

Hale, who did not share the circumstances surrounding her father's sudden death, also revealed that her sister, Maggie, happened to be visiting her in Los Angeles when they received the heartbreaking news, calling it divine timing and something "only God and my dad could have orchestrated."

"My sister Maggie happened to be in town visiting me in LA when we got the call. She was sitting no more than three feet away from me. That’s something only God and my dad could have orchestrated," Hale wrote. "I can’t imagine receiving that call alone or walking through these first surreal days by myself. I got to be with my sister. He knew I needed her. Thank you, Daddy, for that parting gift."

The actress went on to say she's leaning on her spirituality and faith to help her navigate the loss, adding that while her father is physically gone, she believes he's still with her in a "different form."

"I’ll look for him everywhere, and I know without a doubt that he’ll stay with us. He’ll keep surprising us, sending little signs, and somehow still making us belly laugh," she continued. "You are a legend, Daddy. Thank you for the lessons, the memories, the unconditional love, and for being the exact father I needed in this life. I’ll love you in this lifetime and all the others."

"Watch over us. Rest easy ♾️❤️‍🩹🪽," she added, concluding the emotional tribute.

Hale also shared additional photos of her father on her Instagram Stories, affectionately calling him her "eyebrow twin." In another Story, she posted a sweet video of the two trying new foods together, writing that she lived for his commentary.

Several celebrities offered their condolences in the comments, including Hale's Pretty Little Liarscostar Troian Bellisario, who wrote, "You were so lucky to have each other in this life. What a beautiful father, man and soul. He was beyond proud of you and your sister."

"Oh sweet girl. I’m so very sorry. Love you so much ❤️," Rachel Bilson wrote, while Jennifer Love Hewitt commented, "So sorry for your loss❤️."

Actress and musician Zooey Deschanel is getting candid about renovating with her fiancé of nearly three years, HGTV personality Jonathan Scott.

During an appearance on a July 2026 episode of the Zach Sang Show, hosted by radio personality Zach Sang, Deschanel was asked if it was easy to renovate their New York and Los Angeles properties together.

"Yeah, 'cause he's really collaborative. He's not like, 'My way or the highway.' He's like, 'What do you think?' And I have strong opinions," said the New Girl star.

She also said that people often assume that the Property Brothers star would want complete control over a renovation project.

"Everyone's like, 'Oh, does he just like take over?' It's not like I'm like telling him, like my way or the highway either. But it is very much a collaboration," said Deschanel.

She also said that she and the construction contractor "pretty much agree on everything" when it comes to interior design.

"We work well together. Like, his office is exactly how he wants it, and my office is exactly how I want it. That's where you really see our own individual taste coming out. And then our shared spaces are kind of the collaborations," continued Deschanel, who began dating Scott in 2019.

Jonathan Scott Revealed He & Zooey Deschanel Haven't Began Planning Their Wedding

During a June 2026 interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Scott shared that he and Deschanel haven't started wedding planning. He explained that they've been enjoying spending time together and with Deschanel's two children, Elsie, 11, and Charlie, 9, whom she shares with her second ex-husband, Jacob Pechenik.

"I'm not going to lie, we're having so much fun with the kids and everything," said Scott in the interview.

Scott, who divorced his ex-wife, Kelsy Ully, in 2013, shared that he and Deschanel plan on having an intimate wedding. He noted that they "have both been married before" and only want to be surrounded by their closest, most supportive friends.

"I think we want to have an intimate wedding where we just have the people who really invest in our relationship," said Scott.

Few novels achieve the enduring cultural footprint of books like J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games, or George Orwell’s 1984. But sometimes, a novel is so good that it deserves a second chance at immortalization.

According to Collider, which just shared its list of the best “forgotten 2000s books that are perfect from start to finish,” Edward St. Aubyn’s 2005 novel, Mother’s Milk, is one of those books.

“Despite at times being truly harrowing, the book is poignant and calming in its own way, and there's something respectable about the way it stares directly into the darkness,” the outlet declared.

Published in October 2005, Mother’s Milk is the fourth installment of the five-part Patrick Melrose series. As a whole, the franchise is a semi-autobiographical look at the dysfunction and shifting allegiances of an upper-class family, with book four focused on Patrick as a father and husband in middle age, hoping he can break the cycle of abuse and emotional damage he inherited.

"Indeed, author Edward St. Aubyn based a lot of it on his life, particularly his traumatic childhood," Collider wrote. "Mother's Milk pivots between drama and black comedy, touching on taboo topics like abuse, resentment, suicide, infidelity, addiction, and family feuds, while also skewering upper-class pretensions. 

Belonging to an affluent British lineage of noble descent, St. Aubyn is related to the historical St. Aubyn baronets of Cornwall. According to an interview with NPR, the writer used the pages of his Patrick Melrose series to work through the trauma he suffered as a child, his struggle with heroin addiction, and his eventual recovery.

But he cautions readers against trying to figure out what is real and what is fiction: “It’s not important to pinpoint what is real life and what is not,” the author told The Times. “There are three things—the more troubling aspects of my life, the novel, and now the film.”

In 2006, the novel was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, so St. Aubyn’s biting wit and sharp satire did not go unnoticed. Over the years, however, the novel never quite found the broad readership its acclaim suggested, even after Gerald Fox adapted it into a feature film and Showtime later introduced the Patrick Melrose saga to a wider audience with Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role of the five-part miniseries.

Now, nearly two decades after its publication, perhaps it's time for Mother's Milk to reach the wider audience it deserves and move beyond niche critical circles. After all, some of literature’s sharpest, funniest, and most devastating novels take longer to earn their place among the classics.

Paul Cook, also known as "Cookie" by his friends and the founding member of the English rock band Sex Pistols, is celebrating his 70th birthday on Monday.

The English musician was born on July 20, 1956, and was raised in London. While at school, he met Steve Jones and Wally Nightingale and formed the band Strand. Three years later, the group evolved into the Sex Pistols, which ended up initiating the punk rock movement across the United Kingdom during its very short tenure.

Cook has named his influences as T. Rex, Roxy Music and Slade, as well as drummers from various bands such as the Faces and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. He was also heavily inspired by David Bowie, whose bandmates stole equipment from back in their early days, according to a video interview with Loudwire.

"You've got to understand, we weren't very rich at the time, and we wanted to form a band," Cook clarified. "There's a famous story out there with Steve; when David Bowie was doing his final shows at the Ziggy Stardust Tour. Between shows, they'd leave all the equipment standing overnight. And it was a big mistake, especially with us around."

The rise and fall of the Sex Pistols

In the mid-1970s, the Sex Pistols were garnering major attention, especially from the British press, after they swore live on air during a TV interview in late 1976. They also performed a lot at Manchester's Lesser Free Trade Hall, which inspired several successful bands to form and influenced the English indie music scene. The original lineup included Cook, Jones, Glen Matlock, Nick Kent, Steve New and Johnny Rotton.

The Sex Pistols received even more recognition thanks to their 1977 single, "God Save the Queen," which described the Royal Family as a "fascist regime" and was released at the same time the Queen's Silver Jubilee celebrations were taking place. The song was quickly banned by the BBC and became the most censored record in British history. That same year, they released their debut album, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols, which became the No. 1 album in the UK and is regarded as an important development of punk rock. Despite the title and the time of its release, Cook claims that "it wasn't written specifically for the Queen's Jubilee."

"We weren’t aware of it at the time. It wasn’t a contrived effort to go out and shock everyone," Cook told Far Out Magazine in 2020.

Despite the band's success after their debut album, the Sex Pistols suddenly split up in the middle of their U.S. tour. During the tour, which was scheduled to have only nine shows, vocalist John Rotten was suffering a terrible illness while their bassist, Sid Vicious, was dealing with drug abuse and arrests. A day after performing their San Francisco concert on January 14, 1978, Rotten quit the band and announced the Sex Pistols' breakup.

Afterward, Cook and Jones worked on the soundtrack for the 1979 film The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle before starting a new band called the Professionals with Andy Allan. But after Allan caused some legal issues, they decided to go solo and worked on Johnny Thunders' album, So Alone.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the English musician worked with various groups, including Bananarama, Chiefs of Relief, Edwyn Collins and Phil Collen as their drummer. In 1996, Cook reunited with the surviving Sex Pistols for their Filthy Lucre world tour.

Since then, the Sex Pistols have reunited multiple times throughout the 2000s and 2010s. In October 2025, Matlock revealed that the band had "ideas" regarding new music, but were afraid that it wouldn't recieve well among contemporary audiences.

In addition, he also tours occasionally with Generation Sex, a supergroup featuring Jones.

Check your cabinets! A garlic powder sold at discount stores in Canada has been recalled because of possible contamination with bacteria.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced on July 15 that the 70-gram product of the Heavenly Spices brand garlic powder has potentially been exposed to the bacteria Bacillus cereus.

The CFIA told consumers, “Do not use, sell, serve or distribute the affected product.”

Bacillus cereus is a type of bacteria that generally causes food poisoning. The Cleveland Clinic cites that it can infect you from “Improperly cooked or stored rice, meats, sauces and other foods.” The main symptoms are vomiting, diarrhea, and an upset stomach. The Clinic shared that most cases heal on their own after one or two days.

In rare cases, there can be complications from the bacteria. Bacillus cereus can circulate throughout the body and spread to different organs. If left untreated, the bacteria can infect your eyes, lungs, skin, and central nervous system. 

The Heavenly Spices brand garlic powder was available at Dollarama stores across Canada. The affected products were sold both in store and online with the identification number of RA-82337.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency marked the recall as a Class 2, meaning the incident has caused a moderate risk. If the garlic powder is consumed, it will result in short-term or non-life-threatening health problems.

Customers who purchased the Heavenly Spices brand garlic powder can request a $2.00 e-gift card from Dollarama as a replacement, a spokesperson for the company told CTV News in a statement.

A year has passed, and actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s mother, Pamela Warner, is still trying to make sense of the devastating loss that came with his sudden death.

On Monday, July 20, Pamela shared an emotional tribute marking the first anniversary of her son’s death. Posted to his memorial Instagram account, @mjwlivinglegacy, the note described a year filled with grief, painful discoveries, and personal growth. “Today has come so very quickly,” she began. “It is amazing how a year of pain, hurt, loss, emotional de-stabilization, and most importantly growth, has come and sits here before me.”

Pamela said the past year had forced her to confront a reality no parent expects to face. “It has been a whirlwind of experiences, insights, discoveries and the realization that life can bring to your door-step the unimaginable,” she wrote. “As a parent, we would never think that our children will leave before we do. It is not the order of things. Or at least that is not what we as humans are accustomed to.”

She continued, “It is the parent that leaves first and leaves the child/children to continue on with their lives. But what do you do when this is out of order and the child/children leave first?”

Reflecting on the day Malcolm-Jamal died and the anniversary that followed, Pamela shared the question that continues to weigh on her. “This is where I found myself July 20, 2025. And this is what I awoke to July 20, 2026,” she wrote. “How can I be here and my child is not?”

Despite her pain, Pamela said she continues to believe that even life’s most difficult experiences carry meaning. “I am a firm believer that everything has a purpose and a reason,” she wrote. “Some of it is Karma, some of it is one’s journey.”

“I believe there is always a lesson in unpleasant and pleasant experiences. I believe that we are spiritual beings having a human experience.”

Pamela described the past year as a deeply personal journey of healing and transformation. “We are all on a journey of discovery, healing and opportunities to be better, improve and transform our spiritual selves,” she wrote. “My journey over the past year has been just that, abundantly so.”

The experience also showed her the worst and best of those around her. “During my year long journey, I have discovered how cruel, evil and greedy a human can be,” she wrote. “I have also discovered the depth of love, care, concern and support that humans are capable of.”

Pamela added, “The good, the bad and the ugly. These are the lessons that apparently I will need as I continue my journey.”

A Mother Remembers Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s ‘Heart of Gold’

Pamela described Malcolm-Jamal as a gifted and compassionate man who believed people could always become better versions of themselves. “He had a heart of gold,” she wrote. “He was insightful and had a real good read of human nature.”

Their relationship extended far beyond that of a mother and son. “He was not just my son, but my go to person, my confidant, my brother and sometimes he had to parent me,” Pamela wrote. “He was my business partner for more than 40 years.”

Pamela said they built Malcolm-Jamal’s career together, with him in front of the camera and her handling the business behind the scenes. “He was the star, the face of Mal Jam Inc.,” she wrote. “I was the support system that allowed him to soar unencumbered with the business of ‘show business.’”

Although their partnership had its difficult moments, Pamela said they always found their way forward. “There were not always sunny days, but we managed to get through to the other side,” she wrote. “And we were successful.”

Malcolm-Jamal, best known for playing Theodore Huxtable on The Cosby Show, drowned off the coast of Costa Rica in July 2025, People reported on July 21, 2025.

A volunteer lifeguard and another surfer brought him to shore. The Forensic Pathology Department later ruled his death accidental.

During an interview with Good Morning Americaco-anchor Robin Roberts, Pamela addressed reports that her son drowned while trying to save his daughter. She clarified that her granddaughter had remained safely on shore.

Instead, Pamela said Malcolm-Jamal was caught in an undertow with another man. The other swimmer was more experienced and managed to escape the current, while Malcolm-Jamal did not know how to navigate it.

Pamela also recalled letting out a scream from somewhere deep inside her when she learned her son had died. The sound was so piercing that it brought her neighbors outside.

Despite her grief, Pamela told Roberts that she had made peace with what happened. She believes it was simply her son’s time to go and takes comfort in knowing that nothing between them was left unresolved. “I’m very grateful that I was chosen to be his mother,” she wrote. For Pamela, their journey as mother and son was painfully short, but it was also complete.

In her heartbreaking letter, she added she had no regrets, though she wished for “one more chance to cook his favorite meals,” share another conversation, laugh, kiss and hug. She found peace in knowing they had healing conversations shortly before his death and that “there was nothing left unsaid between us.”

She also thanked everyone who supported her through the past year. “For all of you who have sent your love and support, I say from the bottom of my heart, sincerely, THANK YOU!” she wrote. Pamela concluded by urging people to cherish their loved ones and resolve lingering disagreements while they still can.

“We all have an expiration date,” she wrote. “Don’t leave or let your loved one leave without them knowing that they are loved and treasured.” She signed the message, “With love and tears, Pam.”

Employees told Delish they often have minimal storage space for their sections, making the store vulnerable to sudden spikes in demand.

On that note, Parade recently offered an entirely separate friendly word of advice for customers: Make sure the insides of your reusable bags are in decent shape for the employees at checkout!
