Mon, 03/23/2026 - 9:30pm

When it comes to the culinary arts, some of the best creations have been unexpected mashups. From chicken and waffles to ice cream sandwiches, sushi burritos and ramen burgers alike, there’s no shortage of inspiration when it comes to finding irresistible flavor combinations.

For BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse, one specific innovation has turned into a legendary fan-favorite, starting as a simple mashup of a warm cookie and ice cream. After years of seasonal iterations, the Pizookie has taken on a life of its own as a staple on the BJ’s menu. But with April Fools around the corner, the beloved dessert is getting a one-day-only makeover, combining BJ's newly remixed deep-dish pizza with the iconic Pizookie treat.

BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse Unveils the Sweet Heat Pepperoni Pizookie Sweet Heat Pepperoni Pizookie

BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse

The Pizookie started as a warm, deep-dish cookie topped with scoops of ice cream. Over the years, it evolved into a blank canvas for bold, seasonal flavors and out-of-this-world mashups. From cereal-inspired creations to pickly twists, this legendary dessert has worn many different hats in its relatively short existence.

With popular renditions like the Spookie Pizookie and Snooki Fryckle Pizookie under its belt, it’s no wonder fans keep coming back for whatever wild flavor BJ’s dreams up next. Speaking of which, this April Fools rendition is far from a joke, and no, it’s not some setup to then have someone screaming “April Fools!” in your face.

For one day only, BJ’s is serving up a wild “flavor collision” of its seasonal Mike’s Hot Honey Pizza and the legendary Pizookie dessert, all for just $4—and yes, it’s completely real. It starts with BJ’s classic warm Chocolate Chunk Pizookie base, then gets topped with two scoops of Rich Vanilla Bean ice cream, crispy cup-and-char pepperoni and a drizzle of Mike’s Hot Honey to finish it off.

Travis Kelce Turns Heads Over Taylor Swift Move

Mon, 03/23/2026 - 9:04pm

Taylor Swift could really make fiancé Travis Kelce’s head turn as the NFL star visited Arrowhead Stadium.

On Monday, the veteran tight end put retirement rumors to rest by signing a three-year contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The 36-year-old player inked a whopping $54.7m contract extension, securing his place in the league as he enters his 14th NFL season.

"Chiefs Kingdom, let's go baby! It's official! Excited for 2026 and just excited to put on a Chiefs uniform in front of you guys again. Let's get Arrowhead rocking, baby," the three-time Super Bowl champion said in a clip posted by the Chiefs on their official Instagram.

Amid the celebration, Kelce made a subtle but charming gesture when he spotted a familiar face in the hallway.

The video featured the NFL star walking down the hallway when he spotted a photo of Swift on the wall.

At that moment, his playful side took over and he casually waved at the pop star, acknowledging her presence as he passed by.

The photo featured the award-winning singer’s concert at Arrowhead Stadium for the two-night show of her Eras Tour in July 2023.

Kelce’s quiet nod towards the “Bad Blood” hitmaker didn't go unnoticed as fans immediately reacted with excitement.

“Travis lowkey proud though,” one wrote.

Fans are swooning over his charming move, with a commenter saying, “I'm convinced there are no other men like him, at least not available to the general public.”

“I’ll say it, his husband of him,” another added.

A fan remarked, “That's one of the best pictures of Tay, too, oh my god!!”

"I am not a swiftie but I do really like them as a couple," another added.

Apart from Kelce’s contract extension, he is also preparing for a major milestone set for this year.

Following the headline-making engagement the couple announced last year, the pair are reportedly gearing up for their big day set in the second quarter.

The Kelce-Swift wedding will take place on June 13 at a posh Rhode Island venue, as mentioned by Page Six.

As for the wedding guests, a source told Daily Mail that they "finalized several key decisions” but wanted to keep the list to “close friends and family.”

This also includes close friend Selena Gomez, Zoë Kravitz, Ashley Avignone, Abigail Anderson and the Haim sisters.

Adding to the wedding guest list is Kelce’s teammate Patrick Mahomes  and his wife Brittany Mahomes

Who went home on American Idol tonight? No one!

The results of tonight’s voting will be revealed on March 30 when American Idol goes live from Hollywood.

Here’s how the night broke down:

PHILMON LEE

Song: “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey

Keke said: “I was very nervous for you for a second, but when I saw you take that mic off that stand and you started walking with a little swag to your step, the vocals were hitting every note they needed to hit. I’m so proud of you.”

RAE

Song: “Respect” by Aretha Franklin

Keke said: “Someone needs to ring the fire alarm because you just set the show on fire. I’m not playing. You were singing down, I even heard a little personality talking throughout, you even hit that move at the end. The performance was fabulous top to bottom. You gave us stage presence, you gave us the outfit, and Mary J. Blige.”

LUCAS LEON

Song: “Just to See You Smile” by Tim McGraw

Carrie said: “Your voice is powerful, it is special and there’s something about the simplicity. You don’t try to over sing. You are laid back in the pocket. It is so easy to listen to you and watch you. I loved it.”

JORDAN McCULLOUGH (IDOL PLATINUM TICKET)

Song: “Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” by U2

Lionel said: “I think Jordan has used up all the notes possible in the music business. First of all, to take a U2 song and turn it into a spiritual, that’s a feat. And on top of that, to turn a U2 song into your song is the way you win competitions.”

ABAYOMI

Song: “Mama Knows Best” by Jessie J

Luke said: “So many star qualities. You don’t operate like you’re a 16-year-old and don’t start any time soon. Just be confident in what you are because you have every right to be. That was a great performance from top to bottom. A little scat in there.”

MADISON MOON

Song: “Since U Been Gone” by Kelly Clarkson

Carrie said: “Earlier today, I was in my room and I could hear this song being played but I couldn’t see anything, so I didn’t really know, but I said, ‘I bet that’s Madison.’ Because I felt like she’s the only one who could go for this and pull it off, and you did. I love your voice so much. You’ve got these incredible pipes. That’s a tall-order song. Nobody wants to sing this song because it’s really hard and you tackled it, girl.”

CHRIS TUNGSETH

Song: “Apologize” by OneRepublic

Lionel said: “So let me just tell you, the first verse, you were concentrating so hard, you almost blew up. You were just in every note, thinking about it, I’ve got to make it perfect. Second verse, you joined us. From that point on, you let go and you delivered the goods. Enjoy that stage. You’ve got the goods.”

RUBY RAE

Song: “Drag Me Down” by One Direction

Carrie said: “You are such a ray of sunshine. You’ve always got this gazillion-watt smile. You can’t help but smile watching you. I want to challenge you a little bit to find your sassy side. When you’re singing ‘Drag Me Down,’ add a little sass in there. I just want to challenge you to find that side of yourself. Bring it.”

JULIÁN KALEL

Song: “Tourniquet” by Zack Bryan

Keke said: “I haven’t been a part of your journey like these guys, but I agree. I feel like I’ve been watching you in the light of this, I can see how much it means to you and that it’s so true to you. Your voice is beautiful. I can listen to you go on and on. You’re talking about ‘Tourniquet,’ this is a deep and intense song, but you’re delivering that hope when you look up during the performance and flash us that smile. It does feel hopeful.”

KEYLA RICHARDSON

Song: “With a Little Help From My Friends” by The Beatles

Luke said: “Do you remember when I gave you a couple of singing lessons in the audition? Why did you let me do that to you? You were just being kind to me. Thank you for that but I hereby relinquish my vocal lessons to you. I don’t need to say nothing to you. When you get us this excited, what is so special is you ain’t thinking about it. It don’t matter if you’re in Hawaii. It don’t matter if you’re in Pensacola. You’re just here to let what God gave you come out.”

American Idol airs Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Streams next day on Hulu.

1975 Career-Defining Classic Was a No. 1 Hit Song 51 Years Ago Today

Mon, 03/23/2026 - 8:42pm

In 1975, Dolly Parton delivered one of the most memorable songs of her early solo career.

Her single, "The Bargain Store," became a major success, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and further cementing Parton's rise as a leading voice in country music.

Written by Parton herself, the song stands out for its clever metaphor, comparing a wounded heart to a shop full of discounted goods. With lyrics that balance vulnerability and strength, "The Bargain Store" showcased her ability to turn deeply personal emotions into universally relatable storytelling. Yet plenty of listeners didn't catch the underlying meaning and misinterpreted the song, believing she was singing about prostitution. Country radio stations thought the song was too indecent and even refused to play it.

"When I wrote 'The Bargain Store,' I swear on my life that I was never thinking about love in any vulgar way," Parton shared in her 2020 book Songteller. "I was using the 'bargain' as it related to a broken relationship. But every man I know thinks it's dirty. Somehow, this lyric is a dirty thing to a man. But I never saw it that way."

"All I was thinking of was the heart," Parton explained. "I was saying that you’ll be surprised at how good this broken heart is. Just take it. You'll never be sorry that you did,” she explained. "The words just meant that I've had relationships. I've been through stuff, I'm not new to this."

The track was featured on her album The Bargain Store, released during a pivotal moment in her career as she stepped out on her own following her professional partnership with Porter Wagoner. The pair had worked together throughout much of Parton's early career. She appeared on The Porter Wagoner Show for the first time in 1967, and the pair's duets and on-screen chemistry quickly made her a fan-favorite.

Ultimately Parton decided to pursue a solo career, and though it was a difficult decision, time has proven it was the right call. She penned the now iconic song, "I Will Always Love You," as a goodbye to Wagoner long before she could have ever imagined what huge hit it would become.

At the time, Parton was establishing herself not just as a performer, but as a songwriter with a distinct voice. Songs like "The Bargain Store" helped define her early success, paving the way for a string of future hits and solidifying her place in country music history.

More than five decades later, "The Bargain Store" remains a fan favorite and a testament to Dolly Parton's gift for storytelling, which is proof that even the most tender heartbreak can be transformed into something timeless.

Xbox Just Gave 'Like a Dragon' Fans a Very Good Reason to Watch TV This Thursday

Mon, 03/23/2026 - 8:41pm

Xbox is about to have a very good Thursday, and it wants you along for the ride.

The gaming giant confirmed today that its next Partner Preview showcase streams Thursday, March 26 at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET on YouTube and Twitch, promising new game reveals, world premieres and a fresh round of Xbox Game Pass announcements. It's shaping up to be one of the more stacked standalone showcases of the year, and the confirmed lineup is already doing a lot of heavy lifting before the event even begins.

The Games Already Confirmed

Leading the charge is Stranger Than Heaven, the highly anticipated next project from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the team behind the beloved Like a Dragon and Yakuza franchises. Thursday's showcase will offer the most in-depth look yet at the title, and fans of the studio have been waiting on every scrap of new information since it was first teased.

Also on the docket: a major update on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, GSC Game World's acclaimed post-apocalyptic open-world shooter. Owlcat Games will show off The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, an action-RPG set in the universe created by author James S.A. Corey, and if the source material is any indication, there's no shortage of story to explore.

Then there's the one with the widest reach: Minecraft Dungeons II is officially coming to Xbox Game Pass Day One this fall, which means subscribers won't spend an extra dollar to play it at launch. For anyone who poured hours into the original dungeon-crawler, that's a pretty great deal.

World Premieres and More

Beyond the named titles, Xbox is promising reveals for games that haven't been publicly announced at all; pure surprises, essentially. Developer partners Sega and Owlcat Games are both featured, and Xbox Wire will publish additional behind-the-scenes stories during and after the event.

The stream will be accessible with live subtitles in 30+ languages, plus ASL and BSL versions running simultaneously on dedicated Twitch channels, a detail worth flagging for viewers who need those options.

The Xbox Partner Preview streams Thursday, March 26 at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET on YouTube.com/Xbox and Twitch.tv/Xbox.

9 Phrases Parents Should Never Say About Their Adult Child’s Partner, According to a Psychologist

Mon, 03/23/2026 - 8:41pm

Let’s face it: The dynamics between a parent and their adult child can be tough, new and confusing. As the parent, you may have to learn how to set boundaries with your adult child (spoiler alert: it looks different than it does with a young child). You might not be aware of the phrases that can transform your relationship with your adult child. You might wonder how to stay close to your adult child without being overbearing, or wonder how to manage the relationship when they live at home. Those are all valid questions that many parents have had before you, and that many parents will have after you.

Further, confusing dynamics and questions about parenting an adult child extend beyond the child themselves. For example, at some point, you may have to interact with their partner and, again, those interactions will look different from those you had with your child’s high school boyfriend or girlfriend.

To help you understand what not to say about your adult child's partner (and why)—plus the effects of those statements, and what to do if you don’t like the person your child is with—a psychologist shares insights. Prepare yourself to feel a little less anxious about the in-law situation after reading.

Are There Different Things a Parent Can Say to Their Child About Who They're Dating vs. Who They're Married To?

Dating and marriage are both similar and also vastly different. How does that play into what a parent “should” or “shouldn’t” say about the partner?

In short, you can say more about a date than a spouse, but still do so with caution.

“If your child is dating, you might have slightly more room for curiosity, and concerns can be voiced with openness,” says Dr. Crystal Saidi, PsyD, a licensed psychologist with Thriveworks in Irvine, CA. “However, if they are married, that partner is now family, and undermining their spouse can damage the relationship with your child.”

9 Phrases Parents Should Never Say About Their Adult Child’s Partner, a Psychologist Warns

Motortion/Getty Images

Dr. Saidi shares nine common phrases she advises avoiding when talking about your adult child’s partner, regardless of whether they're married or not.

1. “I just don’t like them”

While blunt and honest, phrases like this can be damaging and force your child into a loyalty bind.

“It can create defensiveness instead of openness, and shut down communication,” Dr. Saidi says.

Perhaps more helpful, share a concern you have in a loving, nonjudgmental way.

2. “You can do better”

While you might view a phrase like this as a compliment, it actually “hits deeper than many parents realize,” according to Dr. Saidi. To the adult child, it comes across as criticism, as “you have poor judgment.”

Related: 7 ‘Old School’ Parenting Phrases Boomers Still Use That Can Come Across as Dismissive

3. “They changed you”

While you may notice a change, it may also be best to keep it to yourself.

“This is harmful because it implies the partner is corrupting them and diminishes natural growth,” Dr. Saidi explains.

After all, change isn’t always a bad or even a moral thing.

4. “You were happier before”

Again, while well-intentioned, Dr. Saidi believes this phrase can cause an adult child to question their feelings and second-guess their experiences. It also “subtly positions you as the authority on their feelings and happiness,” she adds.

5. “They are not right for our family”

Close-mindedness can also be damaging.

“This can create an ‘us versus them’ dynamic, and it signals conditional acceptance and social rejection,” Dr. Saidi states.

It can directly hurt you as a parent, too.

“In a marriage, this can backfire because when you reject the spouse, it often moves the child closer to them and further from you,” she adds.

6. “When are you going to leave them?”

This question is a boundary violation, Dr. Saidi says, unless there is abuse, addiction or clear danger (And even in those situations, the wording would need to be changed).

“It undermines the relationship, invites secrecy and damages trust,” she explains.

7. “I saw this coming”

This phrase gives the same vibes as “I knew I was right” or “I told you so,” said after an argument or conflict. While it may feel good to say, it doesn’t feel good to the other person, and it doesn’t benefit the relationship.

"It communicates, ‘I was right, and you were wrong,’ when the child just needs compassion,” Dr. Saidi states.

8. Criticisms of appearance, background or career

Making a snide comment about your adult child’s partner’s job, disrespecting a part of their history or being rude about their appearance are all obvious no-gos, too—even if you think you have good intentions.

“These types of comments or criticisms create shame, reinforce hierarchy and damage long-term family interactions,” Dr. Saidi says. “Remember, respect goes a long way.”

9. “You always choose the wrong people”

This phrase attacks the adult child’s identity, which can obviously be hurtful.

“It can create doubt, defensiveness and emotional distance from you,” Dr. Saidi says.

What Are the Long-Term Effects of Saying Harmful Things About Your Adult Child’s Partner?

The phrases above are hurtful not only in the moment, but they last long after the comment is made. Additionally, the ramifications can harm both your child and your relationship with them in various ways.

“Repeated criticism of their spouse can cause emotional cutoff, reduced family visits, limited access to grandchildren, secrets instead of being open and permanent strain between in-laws,” Dr. Saidi explains. “Your child may feel like they must choose, and they usually choose their spouse.”

What To Do if You Don’t Like Your Adult Child’s Partner

You may be able to stop yourself from saying those earlier phrases, but still feel that they're true. How can you honor your feelings and concerns without hurting your adult child and their partner?

Dr. Saidi first encourages you to ask yourself if it’s about safety or preference, values or control, or a fear of losing closeness.

“Then, it is important to voice any concerns you have privately, gently and specifically,” she continues. “If there are actual red flags (such as abuse, addiction, etc.), approach privately and carefully, and prioritize safety versus criticism.”

11 Popular Food Chains From the '80s We Wish Would Come Back Now

Mon, 03/23/2026 - 8:40pm

The 1980s were a golden era for casual dining, fast food and family restaurants. From roadside chains to local favorites, these eateries weren't just places to grab a meal—they were social hubs, birthday destinations and stops on family road trips that created lasting memories.

Many of the chains that thrived during this decade offered unique menus, playful atmospheres, and experiences that today's dining scene rarely replicates. For fans who grew up in the '80s, these restaurants hold a special place in their hearts, representing comfort, fun and nostalgia all on a plate.

😋😋 SIGN UP to get delicious recipes, handy kitchen hacks & more in our daily Pop Kitchen newsletter 🍳🍔

While some of these chains managed to evolve or survive in smaller numbers, many iconic names vanished as consumer tastes shifted, competition increased, and corporate struggles took their toll. From classic burger joints to family-style steakhouses and whimsical ice cream stops, each closure left fans longing for the flavors, experiences and memories that modern dining can't fully replace.

Here's a look back at 11 beloved chains from the '80s that fans wish would make a comeback, celebrating what made them special and why they disappeared.

11 Beloved '80s Restaurant Chains We Wish Were Still Around1. Howard Johnson's

Howard Johnson's was an iconic roadside chain that defined family dining mid-century and peaked in popularity during the '70s and '80s. Famous for its bright orange roofs and classic Americana feel, Howard Johnson's offered a wide menu that included fried clams, burgers, a deli menu and its legendary "28 flavors" of ice cream. The combination of casual dining, comfort food and ice cream sundaes made it a favorite stop for families on road trips.

What made Howard Johnson's especially memorable was its consistency and nationwide recognition. You could rely on a familiar meal and dessert almost anywhere in the U.S., giving travelers a comforting sense of home. However, the chain struggled to compete with newer fast food chains and changing consumer tastes. Mismanagement, outdated decor and rising real estate costs led to the gradual closure of most locations by the late 1980s and 1990s, leaving only a handful of nostalgic locations behind.

2. Ponderosa Steakhouse

Ponderosa Steakhouse was a family-style steakhouse chain that offered hearty meals at affordable prices. Famous for its all-you-can-eat salad bars and a variety of steak, chicken and seafood dishes, it became a popular spot for families looking for casual dining with generous portions. The chain's approachable menu and family-friendly atmosphere were key to its widespread appeal.

Despite its popularity, Ponderosa Steakhouse declined as tastes shifted toward fast-casual dining and modern steakhouse chains with trendier menus. Franchising issues and inconsistent quality between locations also contributed to its decline. By the early 2000s, many Ponderosa locations had closed or rebranded, leaving fans nostalgic for its hearty meals, low prices and the classic steakhouse experience it offered. While a few still remain, the chain is not nearly as popular as it was in the 1980s.

3. Chi-Chi's

Chi-Chi's brought Tex-Mex cuisine to the mainstream in the '80s, known for tacos, fajitas and festive margaritas. Its colorful decor and lively atmosphere made it a go-to for casual dinners and celebrations. For many, Chi-Chi's represented a fun, slightly kitschy dining experience that introduced Mexican-inspired flavors to diners across the U.S.

The chain ultimately went bankrupt in the early 2000s after a hepatitis outbreak and declining sales. Many fans still remember its combination of playful decor, generous portions and accessible menu. Despite its closure, Chi-Chi's left a lasting imprint on casual dining, and many wish it could return to bring back the flavors and fun it once offered. The good news—Chi Chi's is being reborn in St. Louis Park, Minn., so locals and travelers can enjoy its iconic menu once again.

4. Burger Chef

Burger Chef was once one of America's top fast-food chains, known for flame-broiled burgers and the innovative "Funmeal," a precursor to McDonald's Happy Meal. The chain offered simple, consistent fast food, including chili burgers and fries, which became staples for kids and families. Fans really enjoyed the "Works Bar," which offered numerous toppings and condiments so you could make your own customized burger.

Despite its popularity at the time, intense competition from McDonald's and Wendy's, combined with corporate mismanagement, led to its decline in the late 1980s. By the early '90s, most locations had closed or been sold to other chains, leaving a generation of fans nostalgic for its creative, kid-friendly approach to fast food.

5. Steak & Ale

Steak & Ale was a casual steakhouse that offered a rustic, yet approachable dining experience. Patrons loved its steak, ribs and all-you-can-eat salad bar. Unlike fancier steakhouses, Steak & Ale emphasized affordability without sacrificing flavor, making it a popular choice for family dinners and social gatherings, especially at a time when salad bars were especially popular.

The chain suffered during the rise of larger, more modern steakhouse chains and increased competition from casual dining brands. Management changes and financial struggles in the 1990s led to many locations closing, leaving fans missing its hearty meals and warm, unpretentious atmosphere.

6. ShowBiz Pizza

ShowBiz Pizza was a family entertainment and dining chain that became hugely popular in the 1980s for combining pizza with arcade games, character shows and a fun, kid-friendly atmosphere. Its menu centered on pizza, wings, salads and soft drinks, but the real draw was the animatronic band, the Rock-afire Explosion, which performed songs while kids enjoyed their meals. For many families, ShowBiz Pizza was a destination for birthday parties, weekend outings and a full-on entertainment experience.

In the early 1990s, ShowBiz Pizza merged with Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza Time Theatre, and the two chains gradually consolidated under the Chuck E. Cheese brand. The animatronic shows were phased out or rebranded, and the unique characters disappeared, leaving only the Chuck E. Cheese mascot. Fans of the original ShowBiz locations still remember the whimsical entertainment, large arcade selection and fun pizza parties that felt far more immersive than today's Chuck E. Cheese experience.

7. Beefsteak Charlie's

Beefsteak Charlie's was known for its all-you-can-eat steak, salad and baked potato deals. The chain's concept of unlimited portions at a fixed price made it a hit with hungry diners, especially in the '70s and '80s. Its casual dining was perfect for families and groups looking to indulge.

However, overexpansion and the costs of maintaining quality across multiple locations contributed to its downfall. By the late 1980s, the chain struggled financially, and most locations closed. Fans still reminisce about the generous portions and fun, hearty meals that Beefsteak Charlie's offered.

8. Sambo's Restaurant

Sambo's was a breakfast-focused chain specializing in pancakes, waffles and omelets. Its family-friendly environment and all-day breakfast menu made it a favorite for weekend brunches and morning gatherings. Many remember it for comfort food breakfasts and generous portions.

Controversy over the chain's name and branding led to its decline, alongside competition from newer breakfast chains. By the late 1980s, most Sambo's locations had closed or rebranded, leaving fans nostalgic for its pancakes, breakfast classics and casual diner vibes.

9. Ground Round

Ground Round was a casual dining chain that emphasized sports bars, salad bars and a relaxed atmosphere. Menu highlights included burgers, steaks and salads, all served in a fun, family environment. Its concept of combining casual dining with a bar and grill made it popular for both families and adults.

Like many other restaurants of the time, financial difficulties, changing consumer preferences and rising competition in the casual dining space led to the closure of most Ground Round locations. Fans remember it for its laid-back vibe, diverse menu and the balance of family- and adult-friendly dining experiences.

10. Gino's Hamburgers

Gino's Hamburgers was a beloved East Coast fast-food chain that competed directly with McDonald's and Burger Chef. Known for its flame-broiled burgers, cheesesteaks and fries, Gino's also offered menu staples like the Big Gino and chili dogs, which became favorites for families and kids. Many fans remember the chain for its consistent quality and hometown feel, especially in its mid-Atlantic locations.

What made Gino's special was its combination of fast-food convenience with a slightly more personalized touch than that of larger national chains. Unfortunately, Gino's struggled as the fast food market consolidated in the 1980s, and it was eventually sold to Hardee's, which converted most locations. Today, fans still reminisce about its unique burger flavors and regional charm, wishing the chain had survived to compete with modern burger spots.

11. D'Lites

D'Lites was a fast food chain that carved out a niche in the 1980s by offering "healthier" alternatives to traditional burgers and fries. Its menu featured low-fat hamburgers, baked potatoes, grilled chicken sandwiches, and salads, along with shakes and treats made with reduced-fat ice cream. The chain marketed itself as a guilt-free option for health-conscious diners at a time when low-calorie fast food was just starting to gain attention.

What made D'Lites popular was its unique positioning: it combined the convenience and speed of traditional fast food with a focus on lower-calorie, better-for-you options. Despite the concept's promise, the chain struggled financially in the late 1980s due to high operating costs, intense competition from established fast-food giants and a limited customer base for health-focused fast food at the time. By the early 1990s, most D'Lites locations had closed, leaving fans nostalgic for its innovative take on fast food.

'80s Rock Legend Announces Exciting Update to Massive 2026 Tour

Mon, 03/23/2026 - 8:33pm

This year is shaping up to be even busier for Bryan Adams.

The chart-topping rocker hit the road back in January on his 2026 Roll With the Punches world tour, which kicked off in Tokyo, Japan, and is still going strong. Now, in response to enormous fan demand, a second leg of U.S. shows has been announced for this summer.

According to Adams' official website, the new run of dates will start on July 24 in St. Louis and include stops in Wichita, Austin, New Orleans, Orlando and other cities before wrapping up on Aug. 16 in Milwaukee. Adams will be joined by Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo as opening acts.

Tickets for the newly announced shows go on sale for the general public on Friday, March 27.

'Roll With the Punches' reunited Bryan Adams and Mutt Lange

In August 2025, Adams released his 16th studio album, Roll With the Punches, which brought him back together with producer Mutt Lange. (Lange produced Adams' 1991 hit Waking Up the Neighbors.)

"I love working with him," Adams told Ultimate Classic Rock. "I kept sending him ideas; every time I come up with a chorus or a verse or something, or if I have a (basic) track, I'd send it to him and say, 'What do you think of this? Could you sing background vocals on this for me?' It's not tough to get him inspired; he loves music so much. It just ended up being a really cool collaboration."

Adams went on to say that a couple of the songs on Roll With the Punches grew out of tunes Lange was collaborating on with a Swedish singer.

"They hadn't really completed anything," Adams explained. "They just had a bunch of tracks. That's how songs like 'Will We Ever Be Friends Again' came together, (and) 'Life is Beautiful.' They sort of started something, then didn't finish it or it needed to be finished. So along comes the fixer...I wouldn't actually call myself that, 'cause Mutt's the fixer. He's amazing putting things together. But we would go back and forth on the Internet. We never actually met, but it worked great."

New Travel Warning for Popular South American Destination Is Raising Concerns

Mon, 03/23/2026 - 8:20pm

A recent update from the U.S. State Department is turning heads, and raising some questions, about travel to Venezuela.

On Thursday, March 19, officials lowered the country’s advisory level from a Level 4 “Do Not Travel” warning to Level 3, meaning Americans are now advised to reconsider travel rather than avoid it entirely. While that might sound like progress, the updated guidance still comes with serious cautions.

The advisory continues to warn travelers about risks including crime, kidnapping, terrorism, and limited health infrastructure. In fact, several regions remain strictly off-limits due to heightened danger, including areas near the Colombia border, parts of Amazonas, Apure, and Tachira states, as well as rural regions in Bolivar and other areas flagged for violent crime and kidnapping concerns.

The update also reflects changes behind the scenes. The U.S. has begun a phased approach to restoring embassy operations, though services remain limited. Most consular assistance is still handled through the U.S. Embassy in Bogotá, Colombia, and emergency support within Venezuela is restricted—especially outside of Caracas.

For travelers considering a trip, the risks extend beyond safety. Violent crimes such as armed robbery and kidnapping are still reported, and experts warn that unregulated taxis and nighttime travel—particularly between the airport and Caracas—can increase vulnerability.

Health concerns are also a major factor. Venezuela’s healthcare system is still recovering, with shortages of medicine, staff, and basic infrastructure in some areas. In more remote locations, even essentials like running water and electricity may be unreliable. The CDC also notes the presence of mosquito-borne illnesses such as dengue and malaria, along with risks tied to contaminated water.

The advisory shift comes just weeks after the U.S. approved the return of direct flights between Miami and major Venezuelan cities, marking the first such routes in years.Adding to the travel headaches, passengers in the U.S. are also dealing with unusually long TSA lines at major airports, with wait times reportedly stretching well beyond typical averages in recent weeks. Staffing shortages, increased travel demand, and ongoing adjustments to security protocols have all contributed to the delays, making even domestic travel more unpredictable.

5 Coca-Cola Commercials That Defined Generations (And the Secrets Behind Them)

Mon, 03/23/2026 - 7:25pm

While Pepsi spent years calling itself the "choice of a new generation," Coca-Cola was busy creating commercials that helped define those generations. From emotional Super Bowl moments to futuristic spokes-characters and groundbreaking animation, some of the brand's ads didn't just sell soda; they became part of pop culture.

Over the years, the company has shown a remarkable ability to tap into the cultural pulse, creating ads that felt less like marketing and more like shared experiences. The following five commercials stand out not just for their popularity, but for how clearly they captured the spirit of the times in which they aired.

5 Generation Defining Coca-Cola Commercials1. "Hilltop" (1971)

1971's "Hilltop," or, as it's commonly known, "I'd Like to Buy the World a Coke," featured a group of young people standing on a hilltop singing about inclusion, sharing, and making the world a better place, all while holding bottles of Coke. Several of the singers are wearing traditional clothing from their home countries, along with Coca-Cola bottles in different languages, highlighting the cultural diversity.

The idea for the ad came after McCann Erickson creative director Bill Backer noticed stranded airline passengers bonding over bottles of Coke during a travel delay, inspiring what became one of the most famous ad jingles ever.

The commercial was released at a time when war was raging in Vietnam, and social unrest was flaring up around the world, and many people were looking for a reason to feel positive and hopeful about the future. The "Hilltop" spot became an instant success, as its message of harmony resonated with young audiences across the country.

2. "Hey Kid, Catch" (1979)

This spot from the late 1970's stars four-time Super Bowl champion Joe "Mean Joe" Greene, a notoriously feared defensive tackle from the Pittsburgh Steelers. When a young fan offers battle-bruised and limping Mean Joe a bottle of Coke, it reveals a softer side to the defenseman.

During production, Greene reportedly chugged down so many full bottles of Coke in order to capture the perfect shot that he couldn't stop burping between takes.

Much like "Hilltop," the Mean Joe ad embodied optimism and humanity during a time of global tension and domestic economic turmoil. Audiences embraced the warmth and hope the spot conveyed, making it an iconic ad for the era.

3. "Catch the Wave" (1986)

When a futuristic-looking computer falls off a truck and is discovered by a group of kids, it reveals Coke's new spokesperson, Max Headroom, and the brand's new tagline, "Catch the Wave." The glitchy computer personality was introduced during the height of the Cola Wars and was the voice of the company's unpopular New Coke formula change.

While Max Headroom was intended to be a computer-generated character, he was actually played by actor Matt Frewer using prosthetics and editing tricks. The TV campaign launched with a series of commercials directed by Ridley Scott(Blade Runner, Gladiator), and the pubic response earned a year-long ad campaign for New Coke, and led to Max getting his own network show.

Max Headroom is as much the embodiment of 1980s pop culture as MTV or the Rubik's Cube. The pseudo-digital character reflected the emerging computer and video game culture, resonating with young audiences who were embracing the onslaught of technology but perhaps not the New Coke formula as much.

4. Northern Lights (1993)

Most commonly known as the "first polar bear ad," this spot, unlike Max Headroom, was actually early computer-generated imagery (CGI). The ad featured animated polar bears coming together to watch the Northern Lights while enjoying a Coca-Cola.

The bears marked the kickoff of the brand's new "Always Coca-Cola" campaign. The initial concept reportedly stemmed from the combination of the creative director's puppy, which resembled a polar bear, and the idea of enjoying a Coke at the movie theater, which led to one of the soft drink company's most iconic mascots.

The complete use of CGI in 1993 was groundbreaking—Pixar's Toy Story wouldn't even be released for another two years, in 1995. Watching it now, more than 30 years later, the ad still works. The animation looks a little dated, but surprisingly good, and the emotional response and feelings of community and inclusion still resonate.

5. "Share a Coke" (2011 Australia/2014 U.S.)

Coca-Cola's groundbreaking campaign was the first time the company's name was printed on cans and bottles, replacing the traditional logo, which was an innovative personalized marketing experience.

The campaign began in Australia in 2011, and its success led to global expansion into more than 70 countries. The goal was to connect with younger, millennial consumers who increasingly viewed Coca-Cola as an outdated brand. After years of declining soda consumption, the personalization strategy helped boost engagement and sales after a period of declining consumption and encouraged a new generation of customers to engage with the brand through social sharing. It was one of the most successful advertising campaigns in the company's history.

With the immense success of the Share a Coke campaign, it's hardly surprising that the soft-drink giant brought it back to life in 2025, updated for a Gen-Z audience.

Blurring the Lines Between Brand and Culture

Taken together, these commercials show how Coca-Cola has managed to stay culturally relevant across generations by doing something deceptively simple: telling stories to make people feel something. Long after the slogans fade and the campaigns end, these ads remain embedded in our memories—proof that the right commercial at the right moment can become part of the culture itself.

And while the cola wars may never truly end, Coca-Cola's advertising history shows that sometimes the most effective way to win over a generation isn't marketing to them, but understanding what connects with them in the first place.

‘80s Bangles Legend Susanna Hoffs, 67, Is an Ageless Beauty While Dancing to Her Hit ‘Manic Monday’

Mon, 03/23/2026 - 7:21pm

'80s rock icon Susanna Hoffs is 67 and still dancing nonstop.

Hoffs led the Bangles, her all-girl band, to music superstardom thanks to songs like “Walk Like an Egyptian” and “Manic Monday.” Still an avid performer who hits the stage and performs with a vengeance, the musical talent is also a popular face on social media, where she loves to share videos of herself dancing it out.

In her latest dancing video, Hoffs busts a move to "Manic Monday" in a video that shoots back and forth from the heyday of the Bangles to the present day, when Hoffs dances in a black dress and white cardigan in her home. Of course, the brunette beauty is aging so well that you almost wouldn't know that several decades have passed by since the song debuted. Without a stitch of makeup, Hoffs looks impeccable as she throws her hands in the air and twists around to her legendary tune.

"Now & Then!" she captioned the fun video.

Hoffs Celebrated Her 67th Birthday

Hoffs recently took to Instagram to mark her 67th birthday. Bare-faced and beautiful, she sported a pink shirt with her brown hair sitting on her shoulders. The beloved singer embraced her age and shared some of the knowledge she’s gained through the years.

“Hello, my friends. Today is my birthday, and I feel nothing but gratitude. A little older, and a little wiser. And just oh so grateful,” Hoffs shared in the video, which included a hashtag that read “no makeup.”

View this post on Instagram Did Susanna Hoffs Re-Record 'Eternal Flame'?

Yes! Last year, Hoffs released a new solo version of one of the Bangles’ most iconic songs.

“Here is a brand new recording of ‘Eternal Flame’ which I co-wrote in 1988 with my friends Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly,” Hoffs wrote in a social media post. “I was inspired to sing it again! As I stood before the microphone, I fought back tears of gratitude—for the opportunity to sing a song I have loved and cherished my entire adult life. We’ve grown up together!”

The singer continued, sharing how people continue to tell her how much the song means to them.

“I’ve been touched time and again by stories from friends and strangers alike who’ve expressed how much ‘Eternal Flame’ has meant to them, whether the song played as they walked down the aisle at their wedding, or brought consolation. I still wake up each morning, motivated to sing, to write, to make art, and to find ways to connect,” she noted. “I’m still that same girl with that same emotion—older, and hopefully wiser.”

'60s Rock Legend's Classic Solo Album Hit No. 1 41 Years Ago Today

Mon, 03/23/2026 - 7:21pm

Creedence Clearwater Revival fans were understandably pretty bummed when the band broke up in 1972, but they didn't have to wait very long for frontman John Fogerty to start making solo albums.

In 1973, Fogerty released his debut album as a solo artist, The Blue Ridge Rangers; two years after that, he released his self-titled second album. Neither one of those made it to the top of the charts, though (they peaked at #47 and #78 on the Billboard 200, respectively). His first and only solo album to hit #1 wouldn't come out for another ten years.

According to American Songwriter, Fogerty recorded a disco-influenced album called Hoodoo after 1975's John Fogerty, but the record label refused to release it, even though covers had already been printed. (The master tapes from the Hoodoo recording sessions were later destroyed, per Fogerty's request.) Following that rejection, Fogerty took a break from being a rock star for nearly a decade.

Rock history is filled with stories of unsuccessful comeback attempts, but Fogerty's return was one of the exceptions. His third album, Centerfield, was his biggest success, going to #1 on March 23, 1985.

In an interview that year, Fogerty said he was worried about Centerfield being rejected by Warner Bros.

“I really didn’t know where I was at, at that time. I was just glad it was going to come out. That was enough. For me, it was like crossing the finish line. The way I put it at the time was the monkey was off my back, finally,” he said.

@johnfogerty

In this 1985 interview, John reflects on the release of Centerfield. What a Legacy it has become! For John, simply getting the record out felt like crossing the finish line - "like the monkey was finally off my back." Looking back now, it's a candid moment from the start of a major comeback. #centerfield #johnfogerty #rocknrollgirls #1985 #throwback

♬ original sound - John Fogerty

Not only was Centerfield not rejected, it was a home run...which is fitting, given the album's connection to baseball.

"My first choice was to become a baseball player — center fielder for the Yankees,” he said in a 1986 interview with Nina Blackwood. "I remember walking into my office at about the age of 35, and Bob was already there. I said, ‘Well, Bob, I’m 35 today. I guess the Yanks ain’t gonna call me up.’”

Centerfield's lead single, “The Old Man Down the Road," went to #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Mainstream Rock chart, though it later led to a lawsuit accusing Fogerty of plagiarizing himself ("Run Through the Jungle"). Fogerty eventually won the case.

The Most Famous Celebrity Kids Born This Month in the 1970s

Mon, 03/23/2026 - 7:10pm

Ah, the 1970s. A time before smartphones and streaming services. But everything wasn’t different back then. Even though the decade was half a century ago, music, TV, and movie fans were just as fascinated with celebrities as they are now.

What celebs had kids in the ‘70s? We went back 50 years (or so) to find out who became parents this month—and here are the rockers, award winners, silver screen stars, and models who had babies between 1970 and 1980.

Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash

While the singer-songwriter’s first four children (with his first wife Vivian Liberto) were born in the 1950s and 1960s, his fifth kiddo was a ‘70s baby. Johnny Cash had four daughters, Rosanne (born in 1955), Kathy (born in 1956), Cindy (born in 1958), and Tara (born in 1961).

Cash’s fifth child, John, was born on March 3, 1970. Not only did John have a famous father, but he also had a celeb mom. He was the only child of Cash and his second wife, performer June Carter Cash

Keith Richards

Musician Keith Richards is best known as one of the original members of The Rolling Stones. But the rock icon is also a father to five. The musical legend has three children: Son Marlon (born August 10, 1969), son Tara (born March 26, 1976), and daughter Angela (born April 17, 1972) with model Anita Pallenberg. He also has two more children (daughters Theodora and Alexandra) with model Patti Hansen. Richards’ son, Tara, sadly died at just 10 weeks old, almost crushing the doting dad.

Mia Farrow

This California Town Is the Best in the U.S. For Seeing Wild Sea Otters, Stunning Seafood, and Gorgeous Landscapes

Mon, 03/23/2026 - 7:08pm

If your ‘for you page’ is full of precious animals, then you’ve likely seen the clips of sea otters floating on their backs or swimming around. For a reliable chance to see these playful marine mammals in the wild, Morro Bay on California’s central coast is a must-stop destination.

Located along the scenic central coast, Morro Bay offers calm waters and protected estuaries that create an ideal habitat for sea otters. Unlike other coastal spots where sightings can be rare, here, otters are frequently seen year-round, making it one of the best places in California to observe them in their natural environment.

We visited Morro Bay this weekend to see these insanely adorable sea otters. We also went antiquing and my heart is so full! Nice to get a change of scenery sometimes. #morrobay #seaotter #hummingbird #grateful #morrorock

Morro Bay’s sheltered harbor and nearby kelp forests provide otters with safety, food, and the perfect environment to thrive. The estuary and bay are protected areas, and local conservation efforts help maintain these ecosystems, ensuring that otters, harbor seals, and other marine wildlife continue to flourish.

This makes Morro Bay one of the few places where you can see sea otters daily, whether floating alone or in “rafts” of several dozen.

One of the easiest ways to spot otters is right from the shore. The Embarcadero area and Morro Rock are popular viewing spots, where the calm water allows you to watch otters bobbing near the surface, often close enough to see them cracking open shellfish or grooming themselves.

For an immersive experience, consider a guided kayak tour through the bay. Paddling quietly in the calm water gives you a closer view of the otters while still keeping a safe and respectful distance. Many local tour companies focus on eco-friendly wildlife tours, so you can enjoy the experience without disturbing their natural behaviors.

Why Sea Otters Are So Special

Sea otters are not only adorable, but they’re also critical to maintaining the health of kelp forests. By feeding on sea urchins and other invertebrates, they help prevent overgrazing, keeping the underwater ecosystem balanced. Watching them float, play, and interact in their natural habitat is a rare treat that combines entertainment with an important lesson in conservation.

Tips for Responsible Wildlife Viewing

Even in a friendly, accessible location like Morro Bay, it’s important to respect the animals. Keep these guidelines in mind:

  • Stay at a safe distance, whether onshore or in a kayak
  • Avoid feeding or touching the wildlife
  • Keep noise to a minimum to prevent disturbing the otters

Following these simple rules helps ensure that the otters remain safe and continue to thrive in their natural environment.

More to Explore in Morro Bay

While sea otters are a major draw, Morro Bay has plenty more to offer. Explore the quaint waterfront with local shops and restaurants, enjoy fresh seafood, or take a hike in nearby Morro Bay State Park. Birdwatching, paddleboarding, and tide pooling make this a destination full of outdoor adventure.

For a truly memorable wildlife experience, Morro Bay delivers. With calm waters, thriving marine habitats, and reliable sea otter sightings, it’s no surprise that this charming coastal town is becoming a favorite for nature lovers. Whether you’re visiting for a day or staying longer, Morro Bay gives you a front-row seat to some of the most playful and fascinating creatures in the ocean.

Trader Joe's Lets You Try Almost Anything in the Store—but There's a Catch

Mon, 03/23/2026 - 7:05pm

If you’ve ever picked up a new snack at Trader Joe's and wondered if it's actually worth it, you're not alone. The store is known for constantly rolling out new products, and while some become instant favorites, others don't exactly live up to the hype. At $3 to $6 a pop for most items, those trial-and-error purchases can add up quickly.

That's where one of Trader Joe's most talked-about in-store perks comes in. At some locations, you can ask to try certain products before buying. It sounds almost too good to be true—and depending on where you shop, it kind of is. While the policy is real, it's not as simple or as widely available as it once was.

Trader Joe's "Try Before You Buy" Policy Explained @fooddeterminesmood

Did you know you can ask to sample anything in Trader Joe's even if it's not out to sample? #traderjoes #traderjoeshaul #dairyfree

♬ Bridgerton (Wildest Dreams) - The Theme System

Trader Joe's has a reputation for putting customers first, and the so-called "try before you buy" policy is a perfect example of that. In many cases, shoppers can ask a crew member to open a product so they can sample it before committing to a purchase.

This usually applies to ready-to-eat items or drinks, such as chips, cookies, deli snacks and certain beverages. If it's something that can be opened and tasted on the spot, employees may be able to help. It's a simple ask, and in the right setting, staff are often willing to say yes.

There are limits, though. Items that require preparation, like frozen foods or raw meat, are typically off the table. Alcohol is also excluded. And while the policy might sound like a free pass to sample your way through the store, it's really more of a courtesy than a guarantee.

Behind the scenes, nothing goes to waste. Once a product is opened, it's often shared among employees or, occasionally, portioned out to other customers. So while it may feel like a hidden perk, it's really just part of how Trader Joe's operates.

The Catch: It's Not Guaranteed Everywhere

Here's where things get a little tricky. While this policy used to be more consistent across locations, it was largely paused during the COVID-19 pandemic—and it hasn't fully returned in the same way.

Today, whether or not you can sample something often depends on the specific store. Some locations have brought the practice back in a limited capacity, while others rely more on Trader Joe's flexible return policy.

That return policy is part of what makes the whole system work. If you buy something, take it home, and don't like it, you can typically bring it back for a full refund—even if it's been opened and even if you don't have a receipt. In many cases, simply saying the product wasn't to your taste is enough.

Timing also plays a role. Asking to sample something during a busy weekend rush is very different from asking on a slower weekday. Employees are generally helpful, but they're also juggling a full store. So while the option may exist, it's one of those situations where you'll need to use your best judgment.

Why Your Experience May Vary

If all of this sounds a little inconsistent, that's because it is.

Shoppers on Reddit have shared mixed experiences with in-store sampling. Some say employees will still open products if you ask, especially for simple items like snacks. Others say they've been turned down or told to just buy the item and return it if they don't like it.

Ultimately, it's at the discretion of the employee. One employee may treat it as a courtesy, while another sticks strictly to store guidelines. That's part of why the experience can feel unpredictable, even within the same location.

Before 2020, sampling felt like a normal part of the store experience, with demo stations and regular tastings. Now, even when samples are available, they're usually more limited.

So while the idea of trying before you buy is still out there, it's not something you can rely on every time. It's worth asking, but don't expect a yes.
