The Bee Gees’ 1977 hit “Stayin’ Alive” has earned another place in movie music history after being ranked No. 11 on the list of the 20 Best Movie Soundtrack Songs of All Time.

The song, written and performed by the Bee Gees for the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, remains one of the most recognizable songs connected to a movie. Collider’s July 21, 2026 ranking places it among a group of major songs from different eras, film genres, and music styles.

Released in December 1977, “Stayin’ Alive” became closely linked to Saturday Night Fever and its main character, Tony Manero, played by John Travolta. The song is heard during the movie’s opening credits as Tony walks through the streets of Brooklyn.

That scene helped turn the track into more than a disco hit. Its strong beat, Barry Gibb’s falsetto vocals, and message about survival became a major part of the film’s identity.

Saturday Night Fever follows Tony Manero, a 19-year-old Italian-American from working-class Brooklyn. During the day, Tony works at a paint store. On weekends, he escapes to a local disco, where he is known as a top dancer.

“Stayin’ Alive” matches that contrast. The song has the energy of a dance-floor anthem, but its subject is more serious. The Bee Gees wrote it around the idea of surviving difficult conditions and fighting through struggles.

Barry Gibb explained the meaning of the song in an nterview with the Times Leader.

“‘Stayin’ Alive’ was based on Tony having a big night out in New York and the whole concept of being famous by dancing,” Gibb said. “The title came up real early on, but then the song started to evolve. The title is really what the song means about surviving on the streets, sort of a social comment.”

That idea is also reflected in the movie. Tony’s confident walk and the song’s steady rhythm create an image of swagger, while the story underneath deals with work, pressure, and urban struggle.

The song was written by Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. The brothers also co-produced it with Albhy Galuten and Karl Richardson.

The recording itself became notable for its unusual drum sound. The group used a two-bar section from the drums recorded for another Bee Gees song, “Night Fever,” and turned it into a repeating loop. The loop helped create the steady rhythm that drives “Stayin’ Alive.”

Barry Gibb also used the falsetto style that became one of the Bee Gees’ signature sounds during their disco period.

In a 2025 interview, Gibb recalled that the falsetto was something he discovered during the recording process, according to uDiscover Music.

“The falsetto was a discovery,” Gibb revealed.

He explained that producer Arif Mardin had wanted a vocal approach inspired by Paul McCartney. When Gibb tried it, the result became a lead vocal style rather than a special effect. The sound later became a key part of the Bee Gees’ singles.

“Stayin’ Alive” was released as the second single from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. It reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in February 1978 and stayed there for four consecutive weeks.

The song also became part of an extraordinary period for the Bee Gees. “How Deep Is Your Love,” “Stayin’ Alive” and “Night Fever” all became major hits connected to Saturday Night Fever. “How Deep Is Your Love” and “Night Fever” also reached No. 1 in the United States.

“Stayin’ Alive” later earned Grammy recognition. At the 1979 Grammy Awards, it won for Best Vocal Arrangement for Two or More Voices. The Saturday Night Fever soundtrack also won Album of the Year, while the Bee Gees received other awards connected to the project.

Its steady rhythm also gave the song an unexpected role outside entertainment. “Stayin’ Alive” has been used to help teach the correct pace for CPR chest compressions because its tempo is around 103 beats per minute. The recommended CPR compression rate is 100 to 120 compressions per minute.

According to the song's history, the song has also been used in CPR education campaigns, including an American Heart Association campaign featuring actor and doctor Ken Jeong. Its use in medical training helped give the 1977 hit a meaning far beyond the dance floor.

In 2004, “Stayin’ Alive” ranked No. 9 on the American Film Institute’s 100 Years...100 Songs survey of top songs in American cinema. It was also ranked No. 99 on the 2021 update of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs list.

The internet has long wondered who was really behind Barack Obama’s infamous tan suit, and Larry Davidmay have just given them the answer.

On the Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness finale, Obama made a surprise cameo as himself in a 2014-set sketch, revealing that David was the one who convinced him to wear the look that later sparked a political uproar. Fans immediately ran with the joke, with one calling the backstory “GOLD” and another joking that the show must have cut the part where Larry stains the suit himself.

Obama, who served as an executive producer on the series, teased the cameo on X, writing, “People always ask me where the tan suit came from. I think it’s time the truth finally came out. Tune in to the series finale of Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness on HBO Max.”

In light of the political upheaval of the past decade, many commenters reflected on the absurdity of the public’s reaction at the time. “Obama's biggest scandal in 8 years was wearing a tan suit. Yes, that really happened,” one person wrote.

Threads users largely praised the Obama-David pairing, calling the tan-suit sketch hilarious and “brilliant” while applauding Obama’s comedic timing. Some joked that the former president could go toe-to-toe with David, while others imagined the duo as a political ticket, suggesting “Obama 2028” with Larry David as his VP.

One commenter likened the exchange to a real-life Curb Your Enthusiasm episode, while another quipped, “I thought Larry David was supposed to be the funny one.”

Reviews for Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness have been decidedly mixed, with the HBO sketch series earning a 61% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 58 on Metacritic.

Critics have praised David’s trademark caustic humor, the comedic timing of its guest stars and the return of familiar Curb Your Enthusiasm faces, with the Obama cameo in the finale emerging as a highlight. But some reviewers found the historical sketches repetitive, arguing that the series leans too heavily on recycled Curb complaints without the narrative buildup that made David’s previous work so effective.

Hooded eyes are an incredibly common facial feature, impacting about 11.5% of the population, and are typically caused by genetics. Think about how some of us have attached earlobes while others have attached earlobes, or how some people have straight thumbs while others have curved thumbs. It's the same idea.

A number of celebrities are known for their gorgeous hooded eyes, including Taylor Swift, Zendaya, Eva Mendes, Jennifer Lawrence, Naomi Campbell and Gabrielle Union.

Sometimes, when people with hooded eyes apply makeup, they want to give their eyes a bit of a lifted look—and that's where celebrity makeup artist Meredith Boyd comes in.

Boyd is a licensed master cosmetologist, the founder of Meredith Boyd Cosmetics and an official makeup artist for the Miss America and Miss USA pageants. She's also done makeup for celebrities ranging from actor Samuel L. Jackson to SportsCenter anchor Hannah Storm.

We spoke with Boyd exclusively to learn the five-minute trick she swears by for making hooded eyes look lifted—keep reading for the full method.

What Are Hooded Eyes?

Hooded eyes, aka hooded eyelids, refers to a small flap of extra skin beneath each eyebrow, as explained by All About Vision.

When someone has hooded eyes, it means their eyelids are not visible when their eyes are open. In place of visible eyelids, people with hooded eyes have a crease of skin just above their eyes.

Hooded eyes are not a health concern, unless your eyelids are somehow obstructing your vision.

A Celebrity Makeup Artist Swears by This Method for Hooded Eyes

Here's Boyd's full method for applying makeup to hooded eyes. Step 1 and Step 5 are both optional, so for the five-minute version, just follow Steps 2 through 4!

1. Optional: apply eye-opening drops

For clients with hooded eyes, Boyd likes to start out with a secret "product that is not much of a secret anymore" called Upneeq, as long as the client has a prescription for it.

Upneeq is an eye drop that opens the upper eyelids by one millimeter and "does wonders on sagging upper eyelids."

"I use one drop per eye and it takes five minutes for it to take full effect, so it’s the perfect amount of time to finish the eye makeup for the end result," Boyd tells Parade. She has found that the results usually last for six to eight hours.

2. Prep the eyes

To get your skin started, Boyd recommends applying a primer base on the upper eyelid.

"If you want a bullet proof, all day and night lasting result I strongly recommend an eye base primer," she says. "Without it, your body will naturally break down the eyeshadow and it will melt away much faster."

Using either a small flat makeup brush or your ring finger, apply the primer from your lash line to just below your brows. Next, tap a damp makeup sponge over your eyelids to remove any excess product. Then, top off each eyelid with a quick layer of translucent powder.

"Now you have the most beautiful starting place to create your eyeshadow look," she explains.

3. Use eyeshadow to create a new crease

When someone has hooded eyes, the natural crease disappears when the eyes are open. So, Boyd recommends applying your first layer of eyeshadow "when the eyes are looking straight ahead."

This "allows us to create the illusion of a natural crease with more lid space creating dimension without having to use heavy shadows."

Here's how to do it: "Look straight ahead with a crease brush with a matte transition shade ... Make windshield wiper motions back and forth to the upper crease (not in your natural crease)."

Next, take a darker eyeshadow, and apply it to the outer third of the eyelid. Then, blend it with the transition shade "just above it so there are no lines."

Then, "add a cream champagne eyeshadow to the inner half of the eyelid. Pat dry, and apply either a light hued matte or shimmer eyeshadow on top to set."

Once all that's done, "just above the crease apply the transition shade again to remove any lines above," Boyd tells Parade.

4. Apply eyeliner and mascara

"Now, apply a very thin 'tightline' of gel eyeliner to the lash line underneath the upper eye as if you are burying the product in the root of the lashes," Boyd explains. "Then, set with a coordinating matte eyeshadow and a very thin brush to set it all along the root line."

Next, curl your lashes and add volumizing or tubing mascara.

Once the mascara dries, you can add a second coat—or, take things to the next level with falsies.

5. Optional: Apply false eyelashes

If you have an extra 10 minutes, Boyd suggests applying false eyelashes; ideally, single clusters.

"These sit underneath your natural lashes so the band is invisible," Boyd explains. "For hooded eyes, I recommend placing short clusters in the inner third of the lash line, then medium in the center and a few longer clusters on the outside ends."

This will result in a "soft cat-eye effect."

Whether you use mascara or falsies, "avoid long dense lashes which can look unnatural (and can cast a shadow giving you a droopy look). Instead, opt for small to medium length wispy lashes."

Why Does This Trick Look So Good on People With Hooded Eyes?

According to Boyd, this five-minute method looks so good on people with hooded eyes because it creates "a lifting effect."

For instance, the eyeshadow tricks in the above method are meant to "create a new crease and lifted appearance to the eyes." It also makes your eyeshadow more visible, since sometimes hooded eyelids can completely obscure eyeshadow when the eyes are open.

Brown's connection to "I Got You (I Feel Good)" lasted throughout his career. The song became a staple of his live performances and one of the recordings most closely associated with him.

Its unmistakable refrain has also kept it alive far beyond the 1960s. The song has appeared in countless movies, television shows, commercials and sporting events, introducing Brown's music to generations who weren't even born when the original hit the charts.

According to the product label shown by Lamb, Costco's new coffee cake is made with real butter and eggs. The cake is layered with cherry filling and finished with almond streusel and donut sugar, giving each slice a mix of sweet, tart, and nutty flavors.

After more than 50 cruises, I thought I had seen every possible angle of life at sea. I have spent decades navigating mega-ships with thousands of passengers and relaxing on luxe ships like private, exclusive clubs. My family and inner circle know me as a loyalist to the major lines. I’ve always believed that a European cruise is the ultimate travel hack. It offers incredible ease of unpacking just once while waking up in a new historic city every single morning. For this trip, I arrived a day early, checked into the Eurostars Barcelona Central hotel, and I spent a pre-cruise day in Barcelona. It was the perfect way to shake off jet lag and immerse myself in the city’s vibrant energy—from Gaudí’s architectural wonders to the local tapas bars, ensuring I was fully refreshed before boarding.

Our eight-night "Spanish, French & Italian Classics" itinerary departed on August 2, 2026. The journey promised a spectacular sweep through the Mediterranean, hitting destinations like Palma de Mallorca, Marseille, Cannes, Ajaccio, and La Spezia. While I love the structure of traditional lines, I wanted to see if Virgin’s "no kids, no buffet, no nonsense" approach would truly translate to the more demanding pace of a Mediterranean schedule. And yes, it delivered.

What shocked my friends the most were the very things that drew me in. Virgin has built its brand on what it doesn't have, and for me as a seasoned cruiser, these omissions are pure luxury.

1. No Kids Allowed

As much as I love family travel, there is something undeniably peaceful about a ship where the minimum age is 18. And, if you're an adult or traveling with adult children, it eliminates the chaos of crowded splash pads and unruly dining rooms. It turns the entire ship into a sophisticated sanctuary.

2. No Traditional Buffet

The "MDR" (Main Dining Room) and the sprawling buffet are cruise staples I’ve often endured rather than enjoyed. Virgin replaced the buffet with "The Galley," a collection of high-quality, made-to-order food stalls. The food is fresher, waste is lower, and the experience feels like visiting a trendy urban food hall rather than a school cafeteria. The concept quickly escalates the cruise from Day 1.

3. No Extra Charges for Specialty Dining

On most traditional lines, the best meals come with a "specialty" price tag that can add hundreds to your final bill. On Virgin, every one of the 20+ eateries is included in the base fare. This ranges from the sophisticated Italian of Extra Virgin to the experimental flavors of The Test Kitchen. My favorite place is steakhouse, The Wake, where my filet is prepared to perfection and the views of the ocean take the culinary experience even higher. For someone who has spent decades "not blinking" at paying extra for a decent steak, realizing that Michelin-level quality was truly included was a revelation.

One of the biggest misconceptions I had—and one of my friends definitely shared—was that the ship was just one giant, non-stop party. But the reality is that the Scarlet Lady is built with some seriously cool, sophisticated spaces that feel more like a boutique hotel than a mega-cruise.

If you want to escape the energy, The Dock is a favorite spot. It’s an open-air lounge at the aft of the ship that channels beach club vibes. With its sun-drenched daybeds and relaxed aesthetic, it’s the perfect place to watch the sea while sipping a crisp rosé. It feels like the kind of stylish waterfront spot you’d find tucked away in a trendy coastal town.

The bar scene is a huge step up, too. We aren't talking about watered-down piña coladas in plastic cups; the mixology program here is legit. Whether you're at the chic, intimate On the Rocks or grabbing a pre-dinner cocktail in one of the many cozy lounges, the vibe is always on point. The bartenders really know their craft, so if you appreciate a well-balanced Negroni or a complex mocktail, you’re in good hands.

And then there's the pool deck. I’ve spent decades dodging cannonballs and "Marco Polo" games on other lines, so the pool deck on the Scarlet Lady was a total breath of fresh air. Because it’s an 18+ crowd, it’s vibrant and social, but it’s never chaotic. You can actually lounge, read a book, or take a dip without being splashed, which makes all the difference when you’re trying to catch some sun.

And, if you really need to decompress, make a beeline for the Redemption Spa. It’s got this cool, mermaid-inspired design, but it’s the thermal suite that’s the real star. With its mud room, salt room and steam options, it feels like a true wellness retreat. After a long day exploring the Côte d’Azur, an hour or two there feels like pressing reset on your entire vacation.

One of the greatest joys of this trip was using the ship as a floating hotel while tackling the ports. On this sailing, I decided to break my long-standing rule of only doing guided shore excursions.

To keep our itinerary running smoothly, we did use Virgin’s well-curated excursions that simplified our logistics across the Mediterranean. In Palma, we utilized a hop-on, hop-off bus to efficiently see the city's main highlights. In Marseille, we enjoyed the luxury of a private beach transfer and club, while in Cannes, we joined a ship excursion that took us to the glamorous locales of Nice and Monaco. Our time in Ajaccio was spent on a city walking tour followed by a delightful tasting in the local city market. Finally, from La Spezia, we took a ship excursion to Portofino and Santa Margherita by motorcoach and ferry, which provided us with plenty of free time to explore at our own pace. We spent hours wandering the waterfronts in these two gorgeous cities finding quiet cafés and authentic lunches. It allowed us to embrace "dolce far niente"—the sweetness of doing nothing. We also browsed galleries and little shops.

My friends were shocked because they thought Virgin Voyages was a departure from the "real" cruising I’ve loved for years. In reality, it was an evolution. It takes the best parts of the cruise experience: the seamless travel experience packed with ocean views and takes away the pain points that even loyalists like me have learned to tolerate.

It's a popular favorite among Bruce Springsteen fans, but the song "I'm On Fire" took The Boss just minutes to come up with.

Despite being one of the most memorable songs from his discography, Springsteen had admitted that he wrote "I'm On Fire" in just two minutes, and he never expected the song to become so beloved.

 "That was literally a song I wrote in two minutes," he told Rolling Stone in 2024. "Didn't even think about it. Didn’t think it was ever going to be on a record."

"I'm On Fire" not only ended up making it onto one of Springsteen's records, but it was featured on what is perhaps the most iconic album from his entire catalog: Born in the U.S.A.

Released in June 1984, Born in the U.S.A. featured "I'm On Fire" as the sixth song on the track list, before it was later released as a single in February 1985. By April of that year, it had climbed to No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, earning the 5th-highest peak position of all Springsteen's singles on that chart.

Springsteen, 76, has said he modeled the guitar style for the haunting track after Johnny Cash and The Tennessee Three, but the song's minimalist rhythm didn't consist of much else, safe for a synthesizer and Max Weinberg playing a bass foot.

"There’s nothing on that record," Springsteen said. "Wrote it in two minutes. And if you go to iTunes now, it's the No. 1 favorite song out of every song I’ve written. I wrote that in two minutes!"

Springsteen isn't far off — on Spotify, "I'm On Fire" has the second-most streams of all his songs. With more than 807 million streams, it follows behind the smash hit "Dancing in the Dark," which is from the same album, and has more than 1.2 billion streams.

When it comes to pop music composition, few minds command as much respect as Brian Wilson’s.

As the primary force behind The Beach Boys’ groundbreaking catalog, Wilson spent decades evaluating music through a remarkably sharp ear for melody and arrangement. Yet, one specific 1971 rock record caught him completely off guard.

The first time he heard Don McLean's "American Pie" on the radio, Wilson was instantly mesmerized. Reflecting on the track, the songwriter admitted he was utterly “blown away,” sharing his thoughts in a documentary about the song called The Day the Music Died: The Story of Don McLean's 'American Pie.

“When I first heard ‘American Pie’, I was so blown away because he takes you on a journey," Wilson explained. "It’s like each verse is different, and he goes through different phases. It’s a five-minute record, and once you start listening, he keeps your interest the whole five minutes.”

He added, “I like his lyrics; they’re really great. I’d listen and listen […] You know how you hear a song and turn the channel? That’s not the case with Don McLean. You listen to his record’s story. My first impression was I could not believe how pure his voice was,” Wilson concluded. “It was a very pure, easy-to-listen-to voice”

Remarkably, the version of "American Pie" that stole Wilson's heart on the airwaves wasn't even the full song. While the iconic 1971 title track from the LP of the same name rolls on for nearly nine minutes, it was the shorter radio edit that instantly won him over.

Wilson knew a good song when he heard it. The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) named the track one of the "Songs of the Century," ranking it at No. 5.

Listed just ahead of the McLean classic are Judy Garland's “Over the Rainbow,” Bing Crosby's "White Christmas,” Woody Guthrie's “This Land Is Your Land,” and Aretha Franklin's “Respect.”

On the surface, "American Pie" is a song everyone knows every word to, but underneath it tells McLean's deeply personal journey of a pivotal moment in rock 'n' roll history. The track builds its story around a fateful February day in 1959 when a plane carrying Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. Richardson, The Big Bopper, went down, and uses that heartbreak to show a shift in music and culture throughout the following decades.

According to McLean's official website, "American Pie" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2003. One year later, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2015, McLean’s manuscript of the lyrics to “American Pie” was auctioned by Christie's, selling for just over $1.2M.

For Brian Wilson, a man who spent his life creating unforgettable music, finding a song that stopped him in his tracks was something special. Decades later, Don McLean's masterpiece stands as a reminder of how a single song can leave even the biggest music legends stunned.

Peter Beckett, the founding member, lead singer and guitarist of the 1970s rock band Player, is celebrating a milestone birthday.

Beckett turns 78 on Aug. 10, nearly five decades after he helped give the band its signature hit, “Baby Come Back.”

Born in Liverpool, England, in 1948, Beckett caught the music bug early. He was influenced by Radio London and, perhaps more importantly, by seeing the Beatles perform at Liverpool’s legendary Cavern Club, according to his official bio on the band's website. Because he was underage, Beckett’s older brother would sneak him into the club’s lunchtime sessions.

Before long, Beckett was making music of his own. One of his earliest bands, the Thoughts, recorded “All Night Stand,” a song written by the Kinks’ Ray Davies. Beckett later played with several other groups, including Paladin, Tin Tin and Skyband.

He also came surprisingly close to joining another major British rock band.

Peter Beckett Nearly Joined Badfinger

After Badfinger found success with “Come and Get It,” Beckett auditioned for the group and reportedly made Peter Ham and Tom Evans’ short list. The position ultimately went to Joey Molland.

Beckett eventually moved to Los Angeles, where his career took the turn that would make him a familiar voice on late-1970s radio.

After Skyband broke up, Beckett joined forces with J.C. Crowley. Along with Ronn Moss and John Friesen, they formed Player in 1976.

The group released its self-titled debut album the following year, and its breakthrough was enormous.

“Baby Come Back,” written by Beckett and Crowley, climbed all the way to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 1978. The song also reached No. 1 in Canada and became a top-five hit in New Zealand.

Player proved the success wasn't a one-off. The follow-up, “This Time I’m in It for Love,” reached No. 10 on the Hot 100 in 1978, while “Prisoner of Your Love” later made the Top 30.

The Story Behind ‘Baby Come Back’

“Baby Come Back” grew out of heartbreak, but Beckett apparently wasn't interested in revisiting the relationship once the song became a smash.

In an interview published on his website, Beckett was asked whether he ever heard from the woman who inspired the song after it reached No. 1.

“No. Thank God!” he replied.

Player's success also put Beckett alongside some of the era's biggest performers. The band opened shows for Boz Scaggs, Heart, Kenny Loggins and Eric Clapton, who invited Player to join his 1978 North American tour.

Beckett later recalled that touring with Clapton actually helped push Player toward a harder rock sound. The group grew out its hair, brought out bigger amplifiers and began writing heavier material.

“And the band changed,” Beckett recalled. “Then, we stopped getting hits.”

His career, however, was far from over.

After Player's initial run, Beckett became a prolific songwriter and worked on material for artists including Olivia Newton-John, Janet Jackson, The Temptations, Starship and Kenny Rogers. He also wrote music for movies and television and spent years performing with Little River Band.

Beckett eventually returned to Player as well, releasing more music and continuing to perform under the Peter Beckett's Player name.

Decades after he first watched the Beatles from inside the Cavern Club, Beckett remains forever connected to one of the most recognizable soft-rock hits of the late 1970s.

Before I Dream of Jeannie made her a sitcom star, Barbara Eden made a memorable appearance on one of television’s biggest sitcoms—but she was careful to keep her distance from one of its stars.

The show was I Love Lucy, and Eden was a young actress when she guest starred as glamorous socialite Diana Jordan in the episode “Country Club Dance” in April 1957.

Even though she was only in her mid-twenties at the time, Eden understood an unspoken rule on the set of the Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz sitcom.

“[Ball] was wonderful,” Eden, 94, told Entertainment Weekly in a newly published interview. “She was absolutely wonderful to me. She made sure that my costume was right. She made it sexier for the part. I understand she had trouble, I know, with people because of him, but I went out of my way to stay out of his way.”

Eden confirmed that despite a scene in which she shared a dance with him, “there was never” anything between her and Arnaz, who had been married to Ball for more than 15 years and had a reputation as a playboy.

“I didn’t go near it,” she added of Arnaz. “And I think she appreciated that because she really, really ... wanted to put me under contract."

Eden, who ultimately signed a contract with Fox instead of with Ball, once told the Television Academy Foundation that her dancing scene with Arnaz sparked a priceless reaction from the I Love Lucy legend.

“[The episode] was about a dance at the country club, and none of the men wanted to dance, you know, all the wives were sitting there,” she recalled. “And here I was in that dress. … I came to sit down, and someone asked me to dance and then they all stood up and wanted to ask me to dance. It was one of those things, and of course I danced with Desi, and that gave Lucy lots of fodder, you know, to make her faces and look upset. And it was fun.”

Arnaz’s reputation as a ladies' man was well known.

In the book Desi Arnaz: The Man Who Invented Television, biographer Todd S. Purdum revealed that Ball "was not naive" about Arnaz's extramarital trysts, which included a fling with pin-up girl/actress Betty Grable.

Eden was also well aware of her co-star's reputation despite being a relative newcomer to Hollywood. “I knew Desi was a playboy, so I knew I had to be careful there,” she shared during a fan appearance in 2022, according to People magazine.

In a 1980 interview with People, Ball admitted that she knew of Arnaz’s playboy reputation when she married him but that it didn’t bother her.

“No, it intrigued me,” she said. “I was amazed at myself saying yes [to marrying him] after knowing him only six months. Everybody gave it about a year and a half. I gave it six weeks. I thought it was the most daring thing I'd ever done, and it certainly was.”

Ball’s marriage to Arnaz ended three years after Eden’s guest appearance on I Love Lucy.

Ball and Desi Arnaz‘s daughter, Lucie Arnaz Luckinbill, once clarified that her father didn’t actually have love affairs.

"People say he had affairs. He never had an affair. He didn't even know these dames' names. They were hookers,” Arnaz told CBS Sunday Morning. “ And I think that's the reason [Ball] stayed with him so long, is that she understood it. …Somehow, at the time, with what they had, with what they needed from each other, they stuck it out as long as they could."

Peach season may be one of the sweetest times of the year but, like all good things, it doesn't last forever. That makes it fair to wonder what you can do to extend the amount of time you get to enjoy that deliciously juicy fruit. One solution is to make peach butter.

In case you're not familiar with it, peach butter is a thick, creamy fruit spread that you can slather on just about anything. You can also freeze or preserve it, allowing you to whip up goodies like peach muffins and cakes any time of year.

As a peach stan, I'm painfully aware that we only have a few more weeks left in its season. Naturally, I stopped scrolling when I came across a recipe from Crowded Kitchen for peach butter.

This viral recipe uses just five ingredients and comes together in a slow cooker, making it easy to toss everything inside, pop on the lid and get back to enjoying the last few weeks of summer.

As the recipe promised, this was so easy to pull together. Even better: It was a great solution for the overripe peaches hanging out on my counter. The flavor was incredibly rich and cozy thanks to the cinnamon and vanilla. It feels like a warm hug—and I've already used it in muffins. Here's why I'm in love with this recipe.

Peach Jam vs. Peach Butter: What’s the Difference?

Peach butter and peach jam sound similar, but they're two very distinct spreads. Peach butter is thick and smooth, with a softened butter-like consistency. It's almost like a puree. But peach jam usually has chunks of fruit and includes pectin to make a gel-like texture.

Both peach butter and peach jam contain sugar, but peach jam has more of the sweetener. Peach butter also tends to include warm spices like cinnamon, while peach jam usually has a brighter flavor.

Finally, the jam is usually cooked much faster than the butter, which is cooked over a process of hours to create a deeper taste.

If it's taking too long to thicken, you can transfer the peach butter to a pot on the stove for about 20 minutes over medium heat to further reduce/thicken. Let the peach butter cool completely before transferring to jars/containers. It will last for about 3 weeks in the refrigerator. For longer storage, you can follow a water bath canning procedure.

You don't need much to make slow cooker peach butter:

• Peaches
• Vanilla extract
• Cinnamon sticks
• Lemon
• Sugar

How To Make 5-Ingredient Peach Butter

To start, wash off your peaches. Then, boil a large pot of water and fill a large bowl with ice water.

Score an "x" mark across the bottom of each peach and put them in the boiling water for about 45 seconds.

Pull your peaches out of the hot water and quickly put them in the ice bath. Leave them there until they're fully cool.

Then, peel the peaches starting at the "x" mark.

Dice your peaches and throw out the pits.

Put your peaches, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon sticks and vanilla to your slow cooker, stir and cook them on low for about three hours.

Pull out your cinnamon sticks and use an immersion blender to blend your ingredients, before cooking them on high for another three to five hours until you hit your preferred consistency.

You can also move your peach butter to a pot on the stove and cook it for about 20 minutes over medium heat to thicken it up faster.

Then, let your peach butter cool completely before serving it or storing it into containers.

The Great Debate: Do You Have To Peel the Peaches?

Technically, this is a personal preference. Still, many people will recommend that you peel the peaches for peach butter, and for a few reasons. Having to peel your peaches sounds like a huge pain, but it can be done quickly if you go through the steps correctly.

While some peaches end up harder to peel than others, I was able to pull them off of some in seconds. (Really ripe peaches seem to peel easier than ones that aren't quite there yet.)

Peach butter is also all about the smooth consistency, and leaving the skins in there raises the odds you'll end up with unwanted chunks or discoloration.

If you're short on time or just don't feel like peeling your peaches, leaving the skin on is unlikely to ruin your peach butter. Just be aware that peach butter diehards largely fall into the pro-peeling camp.

The Secret To Thickening Slow Cooker Peach Butter

Good peach butter takes time to come together, and you'll have to keep cooking to get your spread to a thicker consistency. After five hours of slow cooking, my peach butter still didn't have as thick of a consistency as I wanted. So, I moved things over to my stovetop.

After tossing the puree onto the stove and cooking it on medium heat for about 20 minutes, I had a rich, thick, creamy consistency like butter.

If you're tight on time, I would definitely recommend going this route since your peach butter will thicken up much faster than if you leave it in the slow cooker.

Storage Guidelines: Fridge, Freezer or Canning?

There are no rules when it comes to the best way to store your peach butter. Instead, it's more about when you plan to use it.

• Fridge: Peach butter will keep in the fridge for about three weeks. If you're going to use your peach butter now or now-ish, this is the best way to go.
• Freezer: Freezing peach butter is a quick and easy way to save it for later that avoids the more complicated steps of canning. But be aware that you may face some consistency and separation issues when you thaw your peach butter, and you have to be OK with having peach butter camp out in your freezer.
• Canning: Canning is the traditional way of storing peach butter. While it requires several steps, it won't hog precious freezer space and won't mess with the texture of your spread.

More than six decades ago, a traditional folk song got a dramatic rock makeover that would help turn it into one of the most recognizable recordings of its era.

In 1964, British rock band The Animals released their electrifying version of "House of the Rising Sun," transforming the centuries-old song into a dark, powerful hit that became a defining recording of the British Invasion.

The song itself was far older than The Animals.

"House of the Rising Sun" is a traditional folk song whose origins have been traced to the United States, although its exact author and earliest history remain uncertain. Over the years, countless musicians recorded versions of it before The Animals put their own unmistakable stamp on the song.

One of the most important figures in the story was a young singer-songwriter named Alan Price, who was just 19 when he arranged the version that would become associated with The Animals.

The band's recording was built around a haunting electric-organ arrangement and Eric Burdon's dramatic vocals.

The result sounded very different from the folk versions that had come before it, giving the song a brooding rock edge that helped establish The Animals as one of the era's standout British bands.

Released in 1964, "House of the Rising Sun" became a massive international hit. It topped the charts in the United Kingdom, United States and several other countries, helping propel The Animals to international fame.

The recording also became an important moment in the evolution of rock music. Its extended runtime, intense vocals and prominent organ part showed that a rock single could be darker, more dramatic and musically ambitious than the pop hits dominating radio at the time.

The Animals' version has remained influential long after its original release. The song has been covered by artists across generations, while its distinctive arrangement continues to be recognized within the history of rock.

The Osmond family legacy is officially stepping into a brand-new chapter, and Marie Osmond couldn't wait a second longer to pass along the joyful news to her followers.

Taking to Instagram to drop the big life update, the 66-year-old entertainer revealed that her family is officially growing by one. Marie posted a sweet photo celebrating her son Matthew's recent engagement, giving fans an intimate look at the happy couple's special moment.

Alongside the photo, the country music icon shared a heartfelt caption expressing her absolute joy over welcoming her new daughter-in-law to the fold.

She penned, "I’d like you all to meet Kaitlynn; she’s absolutely adorable, and she's my son Matthew’s fiancée! We couldn't love her more!!!"

Osmond continued, "I know many of you met Matthew when he was on the road with me, and I thought you’d like to know. He’s such a wonderful man, and I’m so happy for them."

She continued her commentary in her Sunday Message, writing, "Yesterday was a very special day, family and friends all gathered for Kaitlynn’s bridal shower. I had to show you the  cute theme she chose, 'She’s Been Scooped Up!' And yes, we had ice cream. Kaitlynn loves ice cream as much as I do, and yes, I believe it’s the fifth food group."

The post about the event concluded, "Their story is precious, and it shows that God really is in the details of our lives! He does 'know them.' He heard their prayers of faith and manifested His love by helping them find each other." The entertainer then shared a family photo of Kaitlynn, her mom Jen, Marie, and her son, Matthew.

Matthew is one of Osmond's eight children, per PEOPLE Magazine. The happy news adds another sweet milestone to Marie's ever-growing family tree.

Alongside Stephen Jr., whom she shares with her current husband, Stephen Craig Sr., the entertainer is a mother to Rachael, Jessica, Brandon, Brianna, Matthew, and Abigail from her marriage to Brian Blosil. Her late son, Michael, passed away in 2010.

In a 2019 interview with PEOPLE, Osmond said of her children, “They’re all really hard workers and they are kind to each other and they really try hard to be kind to people. Some of my kids are adopted and I can’t remember which ones, but some of them are more like me than my biological and I’m like, ‘I know why God sent you to me!’“

While family is everything to the '70s icon, she has a firm boundary about her financial legacy. In 2010, the former The Talk host shared that her wealth would go toward helping those in need. She wants her children to create their own paths and discover their own sense of accomplishment.

As her family gets ready to step into this joyful new chapter, her focus stays right where it has always been. She looks forward to celebrating her kids, honoring her family's deep roots, and welcoming another cherished member into their fold.

In the early 1980s, Metallica was known for their thrash metal anthems such as “Hit the Lights” and "Seek & Destroy.” Then came “Fade to Black,” a haunting 1984 ballad that pushed the band into new territory on the album Ride the Lightning.

Written by James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Cliff Burton, and Kirk Hammett, the nearly seven-minute song opens with a delicate acoustic intro before building to a heavier arrangement and introducing dark lyrics about despair. The piece culminates with a lengthy dual-guitar solo that carries the song to its close.

Hetfield admitted the song was a “big step” for the hard-rocking band.

“It was pretty much our first ballad, so it was challenging and we knew it would freak people out,” the Metallica frontman once told Guitar World in an interview. “Bands like Exodus and Slayer don’t do ballads, but they’ve stuck themselves in that position, which is something we never wanted to do.”

Hetfield also admitted that he had some difficulties during the recording of the  song.

"Recording that song, I learned how frustrating acoustic guitar can be,” he shared. “You could hear every squeak, so I had to be careful.”

Hetfield revealed "Fade to Black" was written after the band was robbed.

“I remember writing Fade To Black [on a friend’s] couch,” he told Howard Stern’s radio show, per Classic Rock. “He took us in when our manager basically kicked us out of his house… we were supposed to go to Europe for the first time, and our gear had gotten stolen.”

The song’s dark mood reflected the band’s real-life despair at the time.

In 2017, Hetfield told So What, "When 'Fade to Black' was originally written, this was real. Like, 'I hate life. Our gear just got stolen, we can't live our dream, we're not gonna make it to Europe,' all these things.”

While “Fade to Black” has been known as a suicide song—Hetfield described it as such to Guitar World—the music legend once told Rolling Stone, “It was my favorite Marshall amp, man I’m sure I wasn’t really thinking of killing myself."

Hetfield also noted, “We got hundreds and hundreds of letters from kids telling us how they related to the song and that it made them feel better."

More than 40 years after its release, “Fade to Black” remains one of Metallica’s most important early works—an enduring classic that reflected the band’s real-life emotions at one of the most challenging times of their career.

On Aug. 10, 1909, Leo Fender was born in Anaheim, Calif., and he would go on to become one of the most influential figures in the history of modern music. Today, Aug. 10, 2026, the legendary inventor and founder of Fender Musical Instruments Corporation would have been 117 years old.

Fender didn't become a household name by stepping onto a stage. Instead, he changed music from behind the scenes, designing electric guitars and amplifiers that would eventually become staples across country, rock, blues and countless other genres.

In the 1950s, Fender introduced the Telecaster, one of the first commercially successful solid-body electric guitars. The instrument would become particularly important to country musicians and later help define the distinctive sound of the Bakersfield country movement in California.

Artists drawn to the Bakersfield Sound embraced the Telecaster for its bright, cutting tone, helping transform the guitar into one of the most recognizable instruments in country music.

Fender later introduced another legendary instrument, the Stratocaster, in 1954. Its distinctive body shape and versatile sound made it a favorite among musicians across genres and helped cement Fender's place in music history.

The company Fender founded would go on to produce some of the most recognizable guitars and basses ever made. Fender instruments became associated with artists ranging from country stars to rock legends, helping shape the sound of popular music for generations.

But Fender's influence extended beyond guitars. He also developed innovative amplifiers and founded other musical-instrument companies after selling Fender Musical Instruments.

Despite never learning to play guitar himself, Fender had an extraordinary understanding of how musicians wanted their instruments to sound and function.

His designs were known for being relatively simple, durable and practical, all qualities that helped make Fender instruments appealing to working musicians.

Fender died on March 21, 1991, at age 81, after complications from Parkinson's disease. But the instruments he helped create remain fixtures on stages and in recording studios around the world.
