It's official: Rick Devens will be entering the Big Brother house. And Angela Murray will be re-entering it.

While 14 of Big Brother 28's houseguests were announced on July 7, a press release from CBS confirmed that additional players would possibly be revealed in the season premiere. That tune has properly changed, however, as the network has officially unveiled that both the two-time Survivor player and the Big Brother 26 star will be joining the fray this season. It's assumed they'll both show up at some point in tonight's premiere, though details of said entrance are currently a mystery.

Hours after the Big Brother 28 cast was announced, Entertainment Weekly came in with quite the headline, which is only proper for a former newscaster. The outlet revealed that allegedly two-time Survivor player Rick Devens will be entering the game and playing as a full-fledged houseguest. Devens was arguably the biggest star of his reality TV debut in Season 38, Edge of Extinction, ultimately going out in fourth place. He returned to the game more than a half-decade later on Survivor 50, where he placed in seventh after yet another standout performance. If hiding fake idols and flipping a do-or-die MrBeast coin is any indication, Devens is ready to create some shenanigans inside the house!

Describe yourself in 3 words: Fun, chaotic, and loyal.
What made you want to spend your summer in the Big Brother house? I wanted to spend my summer in the Big Brother house because it's the next great adventure, and I love an adventure!
How do you think Survivor has prepared you for Big Brother? On that island, you're dealing with some big personalities, you're trying to figure out how things work, and you're causing a little bit of chaos. And I think those are things that are going to transfer well into the house.
What aspects of Big Brother do you think will be harder than Survivor? I think the main thing that's going to be harder on Big Brother than Survivor is the pace. You're in here for such a long time. I really like to get going, and I'm really going to have to slow myself down just a little bit. Also, being away from my young kids is going to be really tough. It was tough out there on the island for 26 days. Now I'm going to be here all summer, hopefully!
What's one Survivor skill that you think will translate to the Big Brother house? I think fire making is something that's...oh, wait, no. [Laughs.] Probably relationships with people. Understanding how to bounce back when a relationship goes bad, not take it too personally, but be able to get right back on that horse and let them know we didn't vote together this time, but that doesn't mean we can't vote together next time.
What would you anticipate being scarier: Tribal Council or being on the block? think being on the block is going to be scarier than Tribal Council, because Tribal Council is where I do some of my best business. Whereas being on the block, you know you're one of two people that has a chance of going home. It's not everybody that could be going home, it's just you and that one other person.
What do you think is your reputation coming into Big Brother? I think the reputation I developed in Survivor is that I can be a chaotic player, and then I can make it hard for other people to play the game they want to play. They have to spend too much time reacting to me. So I need to kind of give the impression, whether it's true or not, that, "No, I'm easy to play around! You don't have to worry about me."
Who from your previous Survivor seasons do you think would thrive in the Big Brother house? I think that Christian Hubicki and Rizo [Velovic] — R-I-Z-G-O-D, RizGod — baby, would both thrive in the Big Brother house. They both have such social games. I think Christian would crush the challenges. Rizo doesn't really do challenges. I think Ozzy would be in misery because that dude needs to be outdoors. That guy needs to be catching fish, he needs to be swimming, making fire. And as far as I know, you can't do any of that in the Big Brother house. I think people would get upset if he tried to cook one of the fish that's in the Big Brother house.
What's your strategy going into the house? I do have a strategy coming into the Big Brother house. I have some things that I like to think of as my equivalent to planting a fake idol at Tribal Council that I'm looking forward to bring it into the house. And I just think that letting people know that when I find my group I'm super loyal is going to be a big thing to me, even though it might not be true this time around. We'll have to see how it goes!

After much speculation among Big Brother fans of the possibility of returning players, Men's Journalconfirmed that indeed, a previous houseguest will be walking back through the door. Angela Murray immediately made a name for herself two years ago, becoming the first HoH on Big Brother 26, where she went on an iconic rant against Matt Hardeman. After that, she was labeled a house pariah, nominated a whopping seven times. But she was also involved in some of the most chaotic moments of the season, including the veto being used on her thrice. After taking a brief stopover to Europe on The Amazing Race 38 with her daughter Lexi Murray, Angela is ready to take another bite of Big Brother like a fresh charcuterie plate.

What have you been up to since we last saw you in the house? What haven't I been up to? I have been traveling. Very exciting for me, because I went on my first cruise. I got to go to New York. I went through Europe. I was on The Amazing Race, so that was super cool. And just loving life, loving my family. So many opportunities I've been afforded since being on Big Brother and The Amazing Race.
How did being on The Amazing Race prepare you for Big Brother again? I have to tell you, it was very unexpected to be asked back. Very unexpected, super exciting. Honestly, I feel like Big Brother is more of a marathon, where Amazing Race is just that: It is a race for your life. Here, Big Brother, you can just chill just a little bit, and maybe now I won't be so anxious and paranoid. Who am I fooling? Yes, I'm gonna be paranoid! Yes, I'm gonna be anxious! I'm just gonna wear my heart on my sleeve, like I always do.
Why did you feel like now was the time to come back on Big Brother? I definitely feel like there's unfinished business in the Big Brother house. I felt it in my core that I could win, and had I just made a few slight adjustments there at the end, I very well could have been one of the Final Three. So, this time around, I have a little bit of a strategy going in that I hope I can pivot where I need to. And now that I've been through it, I feel like I can see and recognize things that you know that I should be aware of more. I have a plan, I think, somewhere in my head of what I'm gonna do. But you know me! I wear my heart on my sleeve, I tell it like it is. I really just don't have a filter, so I'm going to have to really bite my tongue a little bit more. Maybe, but probably not.
What was the biggest mistake you made on your first season? The biggest mistake I probably made was not aligning myself with Chelsiea. I should have conveyed to her that I was less of a threat and wanted her to be there and wanted to see her, Cam and Makensy and solidify something with them. I wish I had done that, and kind of seen more clearly what was going to happen now. Looking back, I can clearly see the way that the events happened, and a pivotal point where I could have really ensured my stay.
What can we expect from a second season of Angela Murray? I think fans can expect to have the same old Angela. I don't know how to be anybody but me. I'm 52 years old, and I've come this far, and I just feel like you're just gonna get the same. I can tell you all day long I've got strategy, which I do. But it always changes. Things change in life, and you just have to roll with it. I roll with my emotions. I'm a very emotional type of girl; Big Brother brings that out in you. And so you'll probably just get the same old Angela. Sorry!

Everyone loves a birthday bash, and Mohegan Sun is making sure its upcoming milestone anniversary receives the fanfare it deserves with its completely star-studded 30th Birthday Celebration. The unique Connecticut-based casino resort and entertainment venue first opened on Oct. 12, 1996, and this October, two weekends of performances will bring some of the most celebrated names in the music industry to the Mohegan Sun Arena.

Among the names on this all-star list is '90s music icon and rock legend Alanis Morissette, whose fan-favorite 1995 studio album Jagged Little Pill went on to sell more than 30 million copies worldwide. In fact, this album was so successful that it ultimately inspired a Broadway show of the same name, which in turn won Grammy and Tony awards.

Morissette will perform at the Mohegan Sun Arena on Friday, Oct. 2, kicking off this two-weekend concert run celebrating three decades of events and history at Mohegan Sun. That Sunday, Oct. 4, the Foo Fighters will round out the first weekend of the 30th Birthday Celebration with their concert, and the next weekend will also comprise performances from some major names.

On Friday, Oct. 9, John Mayer will be performing, followed by Lainey Wilson on Saturday, Oct. 10. The final day of this massive celebration will include DJ Cassidy'sPass The Mic Live! concert experience, featuring Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe, Ja Rule, Jadakiss and Nelly.

If that wasn't exciting enough, Mohegan Sun has already teased that, in the months leading up to this celebration, even more anniversary events and surprises will be announced. What exactly that will entail remains unknown for now, but with how much anticipation will be built up around the two weekends of performances alone, fans of these music legends shouldn't wait.

Tickets for the first weekend of concerts, including Alanis Morissette and the Foo Fighters, will go on sale on Friday, July 10, and tickets for the second weekend, comprising performances by John Mayer and Lainey Wilson, as well as the Pass The Mic Live! show, will become available starting on July 17. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster or at Mohegan Sun’s box office.

Japanese musician and songwriter Haruomi Hosono is celebrating his 79th birthday.

Hosono, who is also sometimes credited as Harry Hosono, is considered to be one of the most influential musicians in Japanese rock and pop music history. The producer is credited with shaping the sound of Japanese indie pop for decades, inspiring the sub-genres of city pop and Shibuya-kei.

The grandson of Titanic survivor Masabumi Hosono, the only Japanese passenger on the ship, began his career with the psychedelic rock band Apryl Fool in 1969 before the group disbanded three years later. In 1973, his first solo album, Hosono House, was released, and he has since been associated with the EDM genre throughout that decade.

In 1978, Hosono, Yukihiro Takahashi and Ryuichi Sakamoto created the Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO) in Tokyo. The trio became pioneers in popular electronic music, thanks to their use of synthesizers, samplers, sequencers, drum machines, computers and digital recording technology. Even to this day, the group is considered one of the most influential and innovative musicians in the genre of EDM and pop music.

The release of their debut self-titled album made them national and international superstars, making them one of the most popular groups in the 1980s. In a lecture with Red Bull Music Academy back in 2014, Hosono spoke about his career and the inspirations behind his most popular songs.

"The '80s was really a period when great changes occurred in terms of making music. This was because the equipment quickly evolved," he explained. "When I made [Philharmony], a musical sampler called the Emulator was released, and I bought one even though it was expensive. I was really excited. Sampling was an important concept at the time."

The EDM trio released eight studio albums from 1978 to 1993. Over the past 50+ years, YMO had broken up three times, calling it quits for good in 2012, but had multiple brief reunions before Takahashi and Sakamoto both passed away in 2023. Hosono is the only surviving member of YMO.

What is Haruomi Hosono Doing Now?

Though Yellow Magic Orchestra ended more than a decade ago, Hosono is still very active in the industry and still releasing new music. His 23rd studio album, Yours Sincerely, is set to be released on streaming platforms on Sept 11 via the record label Echoes. His more recent music spans a vast blend of the folk, indie rock, EDM and avant-pop genres.

"It started with a simple question: how do you express the Japanese ideas of omoiyari (思い遣り), jihi (慈悲), or boseiai (母性愛) in English? I searched, but no word felt quite right. Each came close, yet carried a slightly different nuance. Perhaps the nearest was ‘compassion.’ It is often translated as ‘omoiyari’ in Japanese, but its original meaning is ‘to suffer together.’ It tends to carry a sense of sympathy or pity—something that feels distinct from the Japanese sense of omoiyari. In Japanese, omoiyari also includes the feeling of ‘rejoicing together.’ In that sense, it may even seem like the opposite," Hosono wrote in an Instagram caption announcing the new project on May 18. "The perspective, the emotional angle—subtly but fundamentally different. For that reason, I chose not to use ‘compassion.’ Instead, I turned to a more familiar word often used to close a letter: ‘Sincerely.'"

The lead single from Yours Sincerely, titled "Note of Mothership," was released on his birthday. In addition, Hosono is also set to embark on The Yours Sincerely Tour to support his first album in seven years, where he will perform a show in New York City's Radio City Music Hall on Sept. 16 and another on Sept 20 in Los Angeles at the Greek Theater.

"This is the first piece of the music from the album and we are truly happy to share this with you," Hosono wrote on Tuesday in an official announcement posted to Instagram. "We wish to celebrate the record with every one of you. We hope you enjoy this one."

Over the years of my Bob Dylan fandom, I haven't had very many hot takes. My favorite albums of his are celebrated classics, my favorite songs are considered masterworks, and I generally enjoy the same live performances as most Dylan fans. The key place I deviate from the rest of the fandom is that I think "Self Portrait" is a really great Bob Dylan record.

For a songwriter so beloved and respected, I can understand how an album featuring a ton of covers could be really off-putting for a lot of people. The album comes at a strange time in his discography where he was going through the growing pains of reinvention. When people think '70s Dylan they think of "Blood on the Tracks" and "Desire." These are both albums that see Dylan refracting himself and the world around him through a poetic looking glass. It's a decade of great reflection for him, both internally and externally. All of that started on "Self Portrait."

The Album That Gets Dylan the Best

Many people deride the structure, performances, and lack of original material on the record. To me however, I see it as Dylan trying to discover what he's all about by charting his musical history. I see the "Self Portrait" as an almost ethnographic work, charting the anthropological history of the music and the country that made Dylan who he is.

The album sees Dylan with some originals steeped in Americana, such as "Alberta," a song that models itself after classic American love songs. The piece bookends the album with two different versions, one a more mellow soft rock take, and the other a larger country style arrangement. The way Dylan takes this same song and creates two different stylistic profiles with it suggests a sense of universality to his music. Almost as if he's an avatar for some greater American truth or understanding.

The covers side of the record follows this idea, pulling from country, blues, folk, and contemporary songwriting, Dylan charts a history of the American songbook, all the way from traditional songs with no author in memory, to himself and his contemporaries, including covers of Paul Simon and Gordon Lightfoot.

This all really gets to the bottom of what I think it takes to understand Bob Dylan. His art and his music are a tapestry of the American culture. He embodies all parts, eras, and ideas of this nation. There's perhaps no artist that embodies the art and history of this nation better.

I always compare this album to the Todd Haynes film I'm Not There, a "biopic" that tells the story of Dylan's life with seven different actors across different periods and personas of his life. Using Dylan, he tells the story of America, and within that story is the best portrayal of Dylan I've seen in anything outside of his own music.

The American songbook is a self portrait for Dylan. It is a place and a collection of music that made him who he is in, and in return he understood and depicted the culture of America better than anyone ever has and maybe ever will.

Iconic '80s rock band U2 has released the lead single for their upcoming album. The exciting news was shared on Tuesday via Instagram, surprising longtime fans.

The new single, titled "Street of Dreams" is the official lead single for the band's highly anticipated 15th studio album. The upcoming, currently untitled project marks the band's first all-new full-length work in nine years since the release of Songs of Experience in 2017.

Accompanying the single's release is a music video directed by Pasqual Gutiérrez and Raúl "RJ" Sanchez of the directing duo Cliqua. The four-minute and 39-second video was filmed inside and on top of a transit bus as it traveled around Mexico City. The video captures raw reactions from fans and U2's passionate performance—perfectly complementing the song's uplifting themes through a visual lens.

"Street of Dreams" arrives amid U2's 50th anniversary celebration. The group was formed in 1976 in Dublin, Ireland by 14-year-old drummer Larry Mullen Jr. who recruited the rest of the original lineup by posting a note on his high school's bulletin board.

Since their debut album in 1980, the band members have experienced massive commercial success, scoring two No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning 16 Platinum or Multi-Platinum certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

In the comments section of the announcement post, the fanbase expressed overwhelming enthusiasm for the new track.

Further details regarding U2's upcoming album have not yet been released. "Street of Dreams" is currently available for streaming on all major digital platforms.

It's not uncommon for professional athletes to find love in Hollywood. One of the best pitchers ever to take the mound made a surprising announcement July 8, stating at 43 years old, it's time to call it a career after an injury-plagued year mostly spent on the sidelines instead of displaying his usual flame-throwing arsenal.

Wrapping up his 21st season in the big leagues, the multi-time World Series champ and Cy Young Award winner took time in his out-of-the-blue press conference to thank his supporters throughout his two-decade-plus Hall-of-Fame run, including his supermodel wife, Kate Upton.

A Look Back At Justin Verlander And Kate Upton's Relationship

Per MLB, Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Justin Verlanderwrote a personal letter to his fans, teammates, coaches, fellow players, and clubhouse colleagues and posted on his official X account.

But baseball's favorite star couple is being cast back in the spotlight as he, of course, thanked his wife for standing by him through the years as she had previously been quoted as saying she had no idea what she was signing up for by marrying a pro athlete.

Upton said in 2024, "I accidentally fell in love. I had no idea. There's how many games? I was like, 'Wait, I thought this was a cute summer thing."

Hitched back in 2017, Upton has made plenty of public appearances cheering on her husband during his stints in New York (Mets), Houston, San Francisco, and back where it all began as Verlander is set to cap off his career in Detroit, where his legendary MLB journey first kicked off.

Verlander's letter read, "To my family, especially my wife Kate, thank you for standing beside me through every season, every rehab and every high and low. I couldn't have done this without you".

Not many athletes remain on the big stage well into their 40s.

Verlander may be having a full-circle moment by retiring with the Tigers, the team that drafted the lanky right-hander in 2004, but he hasn't been shy about why he's kept playing this long.

Prior to the 2026 season, he sounded more determined than ever. According to Forbes, Verlander said, "I want to be successful as long as I can and if that leads me to 300, it leads me to 300. I’ve never really set personal goals like that, but of the things I can accomplish that’s probably the last thing I can. Obviously, I would like to do it".

While MLB starting pitchers have seen their workloads dramatically reduced from the heyday of Nolan Ryan, Gaylord Perry and others in the 300-win club, Verlander will certainly fall short of the elusive milestone and may be among the last to seriously chase it in an era defined by pitch counts and heavy bullpen usage.

Few stories have connected generations like The Little House on the Prairie. 

It all began with the semi-autobiographical book series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. The first book came out in 1932, while the ninth and final was published in 1971. Not long after, the Western TV series premiered in 1974 and ran for 9 seasons.

Now, Netflix is remaking the show, with Laura Ingalls being portrayed by Alice Halsey. 

“I think it’s a huge privilege to be able to play this amazing character,” the actress told People in a recent interview. “She’s been an icon across generations and I feel so honored that I get to play this character and be shown on-screen as Laura Ingalls.”

Halsey shared that she does feel the “pressure” surrounding such an iconic role. She knows how important Wilder’s book series and MelissaGilbert's portrayal of Laura are to Little House on the Prairie fans. 

“I felt a lot of responsibility to Laura and the writers and [showrunner] Rebecca [Sonnenshine] to do it right. I knew that I had to honor her legacy and her story because she really was an amazing woman, a storyteller, a writer and a hard worker,” Halsey said. “So I felt a lot of pressure, but I think I was surrounded by amazing castmates and I’m just so glad that I could do it with them.”

Adding, “I think my favorite part might have been being able to just figure out who she is because she definitely has a lot of sides to her.”

The Netflix original will also include performances by LukeBracey as CharlesIngalls, CrosbyFitzgerald as Caroline Ingalls, and SkywalkerHughes as MaryIngalls. 

Halsey is excited for Little House on the Prairieto hit the streamer. She knows it will resonate with fans across generations. 

“Little House, I think, is a story about growth and hope and family and community,” she explained. “And it really is just... I think that I just hope that everybody enjoys it as much as I love making it. I think that the Little House stories are really beloved to so many people and I hope that they’ll love our show too.” 

The first season of Little House on the Prairie is now on Netflix.

Beloved children's singer Raffi celebrated his 78th birthday on Wednesday.

The renowned musician and performer, whose real last name is Cavoukian, was once referred to as "the most popular children's singer in the English-speaking world" by the Washington Post. He skyrocketed to fame in the late '70s and '80s thanks to iconic tunes like "Baby Beluga," "Down by the Bay," and "Bananaphone," and toured the country, enchanting families as he performed with the Rise And Shine Band. He's also the founder of the Centre for Child Honouring, a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to advancing Child Honouring as a universal ethic and an organizing principle for societal transformation.

50 years after kicking off his career as a children's entertainer, Raffi is still thriving.

In a post celebrating his 78th birthday, Raffi posed alongside his dog and shared that legendary smile with his followers.

Reflecting on the Success of 'Baby Beluga'

Back in 2021, Raffi reflected on his most famous song, "Baby Beluga." The 1980 tune, which follows a young beluga whale who swims in the ocean, served as the title track off the album of the same name.

"I think what “Baby Beluga” did for me is it took my career to another level of popularity," Raffi told AV Club. "I don’t know what it is about that little white whale on the go. Oh, my. It seems to move hearts so much. So you can imagine how I might feel when a young parent tells me that for their 6-month-old, when that song comes on, everything just calms down. I think, 'Wow, that’s magic.' I didn’t know it was going to have that effect. How could I have known?"

There are some songs that bore into your soul and nestle into your heart. They feel like a sort of magic, one that shapeshifts for each person who hears it. They somehow encapsulate a universal experience that transcends class, age, and race. We expect that from many prolific artists like Leonard Cohen, James Taylor, and Stevie Nicks. And while it is more than fair to expect it from Jackson Browne, I don't think anyone would have expected him to be able to craft such a song at the tender age of 16.

But that's exactly what he did when he penned "These Days," according to American Songwriter. The song itself is an ode to lost love, as well as the passage of time, which is such a mature theme for a boy Browne's age. Originally, it was known as “I’ve Been Out Walking” for a 1967 demo tape for Elektra’s Nina Music publishing. They gave it to Velvet Underground singer Nico for her 1967 solo album, Chelsea Girl. Browne ended up even playing guitar on her version.

By 1973, Browne had changed a few things about the song, and "These Days" ended up on Gregg Allman’s 1973 solo album, Laid Back. Browne also released his own version of the song that same year, but his success was eclipsed by Allman's, as he had just released "Take It Easy" with the Eagles (which Browne co-wrote with Glenn Frey).

Browne hailed from Orange County, California, which was where he fell in love with folk music, he once told the Library of Congress. He took inspiration from the likes of Joan Baez and Bob Dylan.

"I encountered folk music which was again a very… it was a world full of historical songs that really reflected the lives of people who were immigrants, many of them slaves, and there was just this whole deep history and deep culture of folk music that I was drawn into and then, of course, there was also a bunch of these scruffy young people that played it," Browne explained. "It was old, old men and women and young people journeying through life, and I was really drawn to Bob Dylan’s first record and Joan Baez’s first records."

It was there he'd hang around spots like the Troubadour Hoot, and would sign up to perform four songs for the evening, though as he explained to Route Magazine, it wasn't his favorite thing to do.

"The cool thing is that my friends played my songs," he explained. "I didn’t sing very well. They would sing my songs, but it was an odd thing for me to try to do, because I wasn’t that comfortable on stage, but it was fun. I started doing it fairly regularly."

Speaking of "friends" singing his songs, "These Days" has been covered by a multitude of artists across a staggering number of genres aside from the famous folks already mentioned:

• 1975:Cher (Recorded for her solo album Stars)
• 1999:Elliott Smith (Widely bootlegged, raw acoustic live performance)
• 2004: Fountains of Wayne (A pitch-perfect power-pop cover)
• 2020:Miley Cyrus(Stripped-back, acoustic backyard session)

It's ironic to me that Browne never considered himself a good singer, because among all the versions of this song, I'd argue his is the most emotional and compelling. And the fact that he was only 16 when he wrote it makes it all the more astonishing.

In January 2025, it was announced that Netflix would be heading out to the vast frontier of television: The reboot. On July 9, the streamer debuted the first season of its own version of Little House on the Prairie, based on the hit novels by Laura Ingalls Wilder. The Netflix adaptation had a lot to live up to, considering the first TV adaptation was a wildly successful series, running for nine seasons and four movies. But, like any good settler, this version of the Ingalls family was ready to ford their own river, crafting a brand-new take on a familiar story.

Little House on the Prairie Season 1 Ending ExplainedIndependence's true motivation is revealed Luke Bracey as Charles Ingalls in 'Little House on the Prairie'

Fans of the original Little House series might have been a bit confused by the fact that not a second of Season 1 happens in the iconic town of Walnut Grove. Instead, it focuses on Independence, Kansas, where Charles (Luke Bracey) brings his family after seeing a flyer advertising free land. Unfortunately, once they actually get to town, they realize it's the exact definition of "too good to be true." As John Edwards (Warren Christie) quickly tells the patriarch, the plots being offered are flat-out encroaching on the land of the Osage, leading to constant tensions between the two peoples.

It's not until later in the season that Charles — and the viewers — discover the false advertising was purposeful. As explained by Eli (Michael Hough), the flyers sent out were part of the railroad's grand plan to bring people to Independence. The more settlers who move in, the more they can push the Osage out, commandeering the land to build. And, conveniently, this discovery occurs after the local tribes meet and decide to accept a deal that requires them to relocate to a reservation.

Then, in the finale, we find out that now that the settlers own the land, the government wants to get paid for it. The Homestead Act (passed by Abraham Lincoln to allow people to own land out west) apparently does not apply, meaning there is a cost to this "free land." As much as Eli consistently spouted about the benefits the railroad would bring to Independence, in the end, the costs incurred became a runaway train in their own right.

Laura gets her writing career started Alice Halsey as Laura Ingalls in 'Little House on the Prairie'

Okay, Laura (Alice Halsey) doesn't necessarily put pen to paper, foreshadowing that she could become a famous novelist. But one of the brightest spots in the finale comes during an essay contest for the young women in town. Originally, her sister, Mary (Skywalker Hughes), was signed up to compete, with a speech prepared and everything. But the teenager gets occupied with Caleb (Kowen Cadorath), reconciling her feelings for the shop boy.

With Mary a no-show at the competition, Laura decides to step up in her place. But, rather than go into a speech she knows by heart, she chooses to speak from her heart instead. She delivers an impromptu sermon, talking about the irony of the town's name, Independence, given how much they need one another as a community. Ultimately, Laura will lose the contest. But it's abundantly clear she has a way with words.

By the time the finale hits, the Ingalls family finally feels settled into their new home in Kansas. Caroline (Crosby Fitzgerald) has been asked to head the Women's Society. Charles has become a leader and a well-respected member of the town. And Laura and Mary have each found companionship, including the family's newest bundle of joy, baby Carrie. So, of course, just when a status quo is established, it all immediately changes.

Charles and Caroline are informed that the man who bought the Ingalls' House back in Wisconsin had a stroke. While he's recovering, he's not able to pay his mortgage, so the Ingalls will not be receiving any income in the near future. The two spend the episode fretting over how to address their new financial woes, with Charles even debating whether to take a job with the railroad that would take him away from his family for a year. But a natural disaster will force their hand on what to do next.

The joy and ecstasy from the town's celebration are bluntly halted by the news that a fire has broken out on the prairie. As the kids hide out in the general store, the adults become the Independence fire brigade, throwing anything and everything to prevent the blaze from getting to the town. Just when things look their most bleak, the wind shifts, extinguishing the fire in the process. But, while Independence was protected, the Ingalls home was not.

When the family returns home, they are horrified to discover the worst-case scenario. The fire destroyed all of their corn crops, removing any source of income they might be able to scrape together. Sadly, there is no other choice for the Ingalls. They have to move on yet again and leave Independence behind.

Despite the depressing circumstances, our main characters remain surprisingly upbeat. Laura is able to use her father's own words to help an anxious Charles, telling him, "Hope is everything. It’s the only thing. Don’t give up on it. Don’t give up on any of us.” As Caroline puts it, "I like who we are here. We came here to be the best versions of ourselves, and we did that. We can do it again.”

And where they are doing it again is quite exciting! On their way out of town, Edwards catches up with them. Having gone from a misanthropic outsider to a dear family friend, he asks if he can go along with them to their next destination, and they gladly accept. And he brings with him not only an extra set of hands, but an idea of where they can go next: A little Minnesota town called Walnut Grove.

We already know that Little House will be coming back for Season 2. And there are probably a fair number of fans of the original show who were quite surprised we spent the entire first season in Kansas rather than Minnesota. But it seems like the next time we see the Ingalls family, they'll be settling down in an incredibly familiar location, ready to take on whatever and whoever comes their way.

Mysteries have remained one of the most popular literary genres, largely due to the captivating twists and exciting thrills. The publication Collider recently showcased some beloved novels within the genre by releasing a ranking of "the 10 greatest mystery books of all time."

Sarah Phelps Discussed Her BBC One 'And Then There Were None' Adaptation in a 2015 Interview

There have been movies and TV shows inspired by And Then There Were None, including a 2015 BBC One miniseries. The And Then There Were None miniseries scriptwriter, Sarah Phelps, discussed making the show during a December 2015 interview with BBC's Media Centre. She described the plot of the 1939 book as surprisingly "brutal," "cold," and " very, very clever."

"It’s a plot that you can tell someone delights in having pulled off, this extraordinary piece of sleight of hand conjuring, but within that when you read it as a novel – rather than read it as an escalating series of tricks – it’s rather extraordinary," said Phelps during the 2015 interview.

She also said that she intended for her 2015 And Then There Were None miniseries to stun and tantalize viewers as much as the book has for readers.

"It’s not just a piece of clever plotting or trickery, it is a really profoundly disturbing and anguishing psychological thriller because what it is really is the forensic nature of guilt," explained Phelps. "It really is about the times; 10 people on an island all of whom have done a terrible deed. Being forced to account for their crimes as the world stands on the brink of war, being forced to account for the things that went before."

Known in the music industry for their devil-worship music retro schtick to everyone but Charley Crockett's team, apparently, Twin Temple gets cast out from opening for the country star on his latest tour.

According toLoudwire, rock 'n' roll duo Twin Temple were initially locked in to join Charley Crockett on the Age of the Ram tour. The devil-worship doo-wop act was part of the opening lineup for the shows that were slated for July 14 in Troutdale, Oregon, and Paso Robles, California, before their aesthetics became an issue. Not too unlike the Satanic theatricality of now-mainstream rockers Ghost, which drew upon the mythic elements of religious lore for musical storytelling purposes, Twin Temple is seen as leaning more into the groove of sinful fun for a vibe. Yet, the optics of that were enough to pull them at the last minute altogether from Crockett's tour, despite how at odds censorship and rock music are supposed to be.

In a response posted to Instagram, Twin Temple explained to their fans why they were removed: "Today we were informed that Charley Crockett has decided to remove Twin Temple from his upcoming shows next week due to our Satanic imagery," read the shared statement from bandmates Alexandra and Zachary James.

The post chalks it up to just differing tastes, as they have the freedom of expression to be authentically retro-glam devil-worship music. "We are really disappointed, as we were looking forward to getting back out and seeing you and also what it meant as far as bringing different types of people and music lovers together." They apologized to their fans who were looking forward to their sets, adding, "We are sorry to everyone who was planning to see us. We're grateful for your support, not only of Twin Temple but more importantly of artistic freedom."

When it comes to how much energy you have, every meal and snack matters. And if you're experiencing the dreaded afternoon energy crash—sometimes called the "3 p.m. slump"—you may want to look at when you're eating lunch.

"Lunch is unique because it sits right in the middle," says Marjorie Nolan Cohn, MS, RD, LDN, CEDS, the clinical director of Berry Street. "It's the meal that often determines whether you head into the second half of your day feeling focused and energized, or fighting cravings and a slump."

Cohn explains that your energy levels are tied to blood sugar regulation. Your body is always hard at work stabilizing your blood sugar. Lunch gives you a boost.

"A midday meal supports that balance and can prevent the highs and lows that cause fatigue, brain fog and increased hunger later in the day," she tells Parade. "We've all experienced being 'hangry,' and it happens when energy needs go unmet for too long, and your body starts asking for fuel in a much louder way."

Importantly, Johannah Katz, RD, a dietitian from Consumer Health Digest, says some dropping energy in the afternoon is unavoidable.

"The classic 'post-lunch dip' is not only about lunch," Katz notes. "There is a natural early-to-mid-afternoon drop in alertness that can happen even without eating lunch, which suggests there is a biological rhythm involved. The goal of lunch timing is not to eliminate every afternoon dip, but to avoid making it worse by waiting too long, eating too little or choosing a lunch that is mostly refined carbs with very little protein or fiber."

The Worst Time To Eat Lunch for Energy, According to Dietitians

According to dietitians, the worst time to eat lunch if you don't want an afternoon energy crash depends on your wake-up time. Generally, though? "For most people, it is best not to push lunch much later than 2 or 3 p.m.," reportsJill McNutt, MS, RDN, a registered dietitian. "When lunch gets delayed too long, blood sugar can dip, which may leave you feeling tired, shaky, irritable or more likely to reach for whatever is quick and easy."

Katz agrees, listing 3 p.m. as the "worst time to eat lunch" for most people with 9-to-5(ish) work schedules.

"By that point, lunch is almost turning into an early dinner, and many people have already pushed through the exact window when their bodies needed fuel," she explains. "Delaying lunch that long can make the natural afternoon dip feel worse, especially if breakfast was light or early."

McNutt notes that people may still eat dinner after a 3 p.m. lunch, but they'll push it even later. She shares that research suggests the body may handle food differently throughout the day.

"Even when people eat the same foods and the same amount of food, eating later may lead to higher blood sugar because the body may not use insulin as well later in the day," she tells Parade.

She clarifies that there are exceptions, such as early risers, shift workers and other people with non-traditional work schedules.

"Instead of forcing lunch into a standard time window, it is better to build a routine that fits your day and keeps meals spaced out in a way that supports steady energy," McNutt says.

Cohn agrees. "Rather than focusing on a specific time, I encourage people to pay attention to how long it's been since they last ate and when the next meal is going to be," she says. "If it's been five-plus hours, many people start to notice drops in energy, concentration and mood—not all hunger cues are in your stomach, which can make it more difficult to understand when it’s time to eat."

Eleana Kaidanian, RD, CDN, CPT-WFS, a registered dietitian and the owner of Long Island Nutritionist, agrees, explaining that lunch is usually "late" if it's more than six hours after breakfast without a snack in between.

"This late lunch can encourage overeating at lunch time, consuming larger portions than needed, feeling overfull, making less mindful choices—choosing with your stomach and reacting to cravings—related to being ravenous, eating too quickly, which can cause indigestion, bloating and even weight gain," she says.

What’s ‘Too Early’ for Lunch?

"Late lunches" can really crush energy, but so can eating too early.

"For most people on a typical daytime schedule, I would consider lunch before about 11:00 a.m. 'too early,' especially if they already ate breakfast around 7:00 or 8:00 a.m.," Katz says. "The issue is not that an early lunch is bad by itself; it is that it can create a very long stretch between lunch and dinner. That long afternoon gap may set someone up for a 3:00 or 4:00 p.m. crash."

Again, Katz says there are exceptions, like people who are pregnant, nursing, living with diabetes or who skipped breakfast. You don't necessarily have to reach for an early lunch, though.

"Instead of just pushing off lunch to a later time in a fasting state, I recommend having a small, balanced portion of food between breakfast and lunch to widen the gap between meals without feeling hunger pangs," Kaidanian says. "This can encourage smaller portions at meal time and blood sugar balance."

Does Lunch Timing Affect Weight Loss?

Lunch timing can factor into weight loss and gain. "Eating earlier in the day may be helpful for some people because the body tends to manage blood sugar better earlier in the day," McNutt says. "As the day goes on, the body may not use insulin quite as efficiently, which means a meal eaten late at night may be handled differently than the same meal eaten earlier."

For instance, she points to a study that found people lost more weight when they ate earlier in the day (from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.) than when they ate later (from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.). They also experienced improvements in blood sugar and cholesterol levels, despite eating the same number of calories as their peers who ate later. Still, lunch timing won't make or break weight loss.

"It is not the only thing that matters," she emphasizes. "Overall food intake, food quality, activity, sleep, stress and consistency are all important, too."

3 Lunch Options for More Energy

There's no such thing as an "ideal lunch" for anything, including energy. "A ‘perfect lunch' varies based on factors like sleep, hydration, stress and activity level on a day-to-day basis," Cohn tells Parade. "But in general, the meals that sustain energy best include plenty of protein and fiber."

Each nutrient helps slow digestion, keeping your blood sugar stable, your belly satisfied, and your energy levels steady for longer. Which lunches fit this bill? Below, RDs share some of the lunches they reach for when they need an energy boost.

1. Leftover bowl

Get your food fix and reduce food waste all in one bite (OK, several bites). Cohn notes that these bowls let you repurpose last night's dinner protein (like chicken, beans or salmon) and add leftover roasted vegetables (or a handful of greens). Throw in a scoop of whole grains, such as brown rice or quinoa and sliced avocado or a drizzle of olive oil.

"This hits all the marks: protein, fiber, complex carbs and healthy fat," she says. "It also takes about three minutes to put together."

2. The snack board (charcuterie-style assembly)

Short on time and leftovers? You can still throw together a healthy lunch. The "girl dinner" trend of 2024 still works this year, and it doesn't matter what meal you use it for (or your gender identity). Cohn loves to put together a board with hard-boiled eggs, hummus, turkey or smoked salmon, whole-grain crackers, raw vegetables and a small handful of nuts.

"This feels more like grazing than a traditional meal, but when assembled with intention, it's a complete meal that checks every box. It also requires zero cooking," she says.

3. Open-faced egg sandwich

McNutt suggests making an egg salad with Greek yogurt, avocado and hard-boiled eggs.

"Then serve it on whole-grain bread with a side salad," she recommends. "The eggs and Greek yogurt provide protein, the bread adds carbohydrates, and the avocado adds healthy fat."
