In 1981, American writer Michael Crichton began working on a story with dinosaurs at the center while observing how permanently fascinated the public was with these prehistoric creatures. The original story, a screenplay, was completed in 1983, but Crichton struggled with how to make it work from a scientific perspective.

Around 1988, Crichton revisited the work and completely shifted the reasoning behind why one would try to "create" a dinosaur to be from a place of entertainment. His first drafts were told from the perspective of two children, and his first readers almost universally hated these drafts. Upon switching the perspective to be from an adult and expanding heavily on "chaos theory," he won over readers and completed his novel, the 1990 thriller Jurassic Park.

Crichton and publisher Alfred A. Knopf released Jurassic Park in October of 1990. The book became a massive bestseller and by 1993 had sold more than nine million copies. The story is still lauded today, with Goodreads placing it at the top spot of their ranking of "Most Popular Books of the 1990s." On Goodreads, Jurassic Park holds a 4.14 rating and has been rated over a million times by users.

Jurassic Park takes place at the titular theme park, a dinosaur zoo on Isla Nublar created by billionaire John Hammond. In order to justify the park and its reputability, Hammond invites paleontologist Alan Grant and mathematician Ian Malcolm to the island to vouch for its safety. When a disgruntled employee shuts off the power and security systems to steal frozen embryos, the dinosaurs are let loose and begin roaming free. The remaining visitors and staff struggle to avoid vicious attacks from predators and restore power to the park.

The novel has gone on to be considered Crichton's signature body of work and launched a wildly successful film franchise, generating billions of dollars at the box office.

This 1983 film, starring Tom Cruise, became a staple of the era and further launched the actor into stardom.

Risky Business just celebrated its 43rd anniversary on August 5. Cruise spoke to Interview Magazine in 1983 about how he came to play the lead.

Cruise, now 64, was only 21 when Risky Business premiered. He revealed at the time that Francis Ford Coppola offered him a part in The Outsiders.

“Francis offered everybody a chance to go on and do Rumble Fish the same week I was offered Risky Business. I thought Paul Brickman was a very bright man with great taste. He knew exactly what the movie was going to be,” he said.

Risky Business was directed by Brickman and starred Cruise, Rebecca De Mornay, Joe Pantoliano, and Curtis Armstrong. Cruise auditioned for the director without much notice.

“Somehow, my agent, without me knowing, arranged to have me just drop by the office to say hello. So I went in wearing a jean jacket, my tooth was chipped, my hair was greasy. I was pumped up and talking in an Oklahoma accent, ‘Hey, how y’all doing?’” he shared.

"I’m not a very good cold reader," the actor continued. "I started reading the thing, and they were ready to say, 'Okay, thank you.' I didn’t know. I cut them off and said, 'let me try it this way.' I started from the top again and I did it another way and we ended up reading through half the script. It was fun, we were all laughing."

While Cruise wasn't confident in his performance, Brickman wanted to see him read with De Mornay, who was already cast as Lana.

“They wanted to see the two of us together. I tested, and to make a short story long, we didn’t test that well. Paul just believed in me. I told him exactly what I was going to do. We talked about it for a long time and he trusted me,” he shared.

Cruise also revealed how Brickman came up with the iconic underwear dancing scene.

“What he did was he set up the frame of the shot. He showed it to me and said, ‘Let’s really play it and use the whole house.’ We had talked earlier and he said, ‘Look, I want BobSeger’s ‘Old Time Rock & Roll’ or maybe some Elvis, but if you can come up with something else, great.’ I went through tape after tape. In the end, nothing beat Bob Seger,” he recalled.

Anne Hathaway is making headlines for all the wrong reasons. After stepping out on the red carpet for the world premiere of her upcoming movie The End of Oak Street, Hathaway's baby bump stole the spotlight.

However, it wasn't long before social media was full of comments, accusing the 43-year-old actress of faking her pregnancy.

"Is this what a fake bump looks like? Why does her tummy look so odd?" one person asked on X before another added, "Looks like a plastic belly."

Never one to shy away from rumors, Hathaway took to Instagram on Monday, August 10, 2026, to deny she was faking her pregnancy for publicity.

"Fake hair, real bump," she wrote alongside a video of her getting ready for the red carpet. Fans also came to her defense, writing, "The most beautiful pregnant woman in the world," and "I love how you always silence the haters."

Hathaway is already a proud mom to sons Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6. And while Hathaway is tapped into social media, she made the decision not to post photos of her kids online to protect their privacy.

I felt like I had broken some kind of a seal in inviting people into my life. And even though I felt as though I had done it in as protective a way as I could, even though it was a moment I was incredibly proud of, I don't know that I'll ever do it again," she told Jezebel in 2017. "Instagram, when I first started, it was so much fun. And it was a great way to be silly and kind of do things off the cuff. And now, because of the time we live in, I think words and pictures are carrying a much greater weight. Or, much less depending on how you engage with it."

So, while fans can expect more (real) baby bump pics from the brunette beauty, photos of her kids is another story.

Brad Pitt just revealed that he’s off the wagon. In a new interview with Esquire, the actor opened up about his issues with alcohol and where he stands now.

“I was sober for seven years,” said Pitt, admitting, “And then I got back off the wagon.” He continued, explaining, “In a more restrained manner. I got overconfident a couple times, went, yep, nope, not good for me. Not in big quantities.”

When asked if he can have a glass of wine, Pitt candidly replied, “Yeah. Well…I can have a few. But I can’t have a lot. I have to be professional about it.” 

When did Brad Pitt stop drinking?

Pitt stopped drinking following his infamous separation from Angelina Jolie in 2016. In 2017, he talked to GQ, discussing his sobriety: “I mean, we have a winery. I enjoy wine very, very much, but I just ran it to the ground. I had to step away for a minute. And truthfully, I could drink a Russian under the table with his own vodka. I was a professional. I was good.”

Several years later, in 2025, Pitt went on the ‘Armchair Expert’ podcast, speaking to host Dax Shepard (who is in recovery) about meeting at, as the actor called it at the time, “Men’s group.” But that’s not how Shepard referred to it. 

Dax went on to share, “I say AA. You’re not supposed to say it, but I say it.” Pitt agreed, adding, “I said that, I went on some like New York Times interview and what a like amazing thing this experience was for me. It was a men’s group. It was AA. It was when I first was getting sober. And I just thought it was just incredible, men sharing, you know, their experiences. Their foibles, their missteps, their wants, their aches, and just a lot of humor with it. And I thought it was a really special experience.”

“And I do this interview, and I say this, and I got admonished by someone, one of the higher-ups. ‘It’s anonymous,” he added. 

Shepard isn’t the only famous friend who helped Pitt with his sobriety. During his acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actor at the 2020 National Board of Review Annual Awards Gala, Pitt had a special message for Bradley Cooper, saying, “He’s a sweetheart. I got sober because of this guy. And every day has been happier ever since. I love you, and I thank you.” 

What do Brad Pitt’s fans think about the recent news?

In a Reddit post, fans reacted with disappointment. One commenter wrote, “I remember so many of his supporters claimed Jolie was the problem, but now he’s back to drinking again…Jolie and the kids are not near him anymore for a good reason…He needs to stop with the excuses and stop playing victim.”

Another used his quote to point out the problem with his statement: “‘I have to be professional about it.’ Oh, honey. I’m four years sober and there’s no being ‘professional’ about addiction,” while others responded with a soemwaht more concerned or supportive tone, “I hope he gets back on the wagon, nothing worth doing is easy,” and “Sounds like he needs to work with a professional not doing media.” 

Pitt has not made additional comments on his sobriety or the backlash from the Esquire article.

Experiencing stress impacts both mental health and physical health; the effects go hand in hand. That’s why caring for your body during tough times is crucial, and that includes managing your blood sugar.

Dr. Christopher Alcorn, DO, an endocrinologist with the Wendy Novak Diabetes Institute, explains that stress has a direct impact on blood sugar, saying, “Stress puts the body into more of a ‘fight or flight’ mode. This tells the body to make more sugar available in the blood for use, if needed."

Dr. Yesika Garcia, MD, an endocrinologist with the Medical Offices of Manhattan and contributor to Labfinder, explains that when we’re under stress, our bodies release hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, which signal the liver to release more glucose into the bloodstream so that we have energy to respond to the perceived threat. 

“That response is helpful in short bursts, but when stress becomes chronic, it can lead to higher blood sugar levels and make the body less responsive to insulin,” Dr. Garcia says.

Dr. Sirin Pandey, MD, an endocrinologist with Inspira Health, adds to this, saying that chronic stress can be especially harmful for people with diabetes or prediabetes.

With this in mind, Parade asked six endocrinologists what they eat on days they know will be overwhelming. They all had the exact same answer.

What Endocrinologists Eat Before a Stressful Day

All six endocrinologists told Parade that on days that they know are going to be stressful, they make sure to eat a breakfast with protein, unsaturated fats and fiber. This combination helps keep blood sugar levels steady—even when life is chaotic.

“As a physician, most of my days have their share of stress, so I don't really change my diet based on how busy I expect the day to be. Instead, I try to start every morning with a balanced breakfast that includes protein, fiber and healthy fats because it helps me maintain steady energy throughout the morning,” says Dr. Nairi Berner, MD, an endocrinologist at City of Hope Orange County.

Five of the six endocrinologists even have the same go-to breakfast on overwhelming days: Greek yogurt with berries and chia seeds. The Greek yogurt and chia seeds are a good source of protein, the chia seeds strike again by being high in unsaturated fats and the berries are high in fiber. 

Dr. Alcorn says that, on stressful days, he sticks with eating foods he knows his body tolerates well. Hectic days are perhaps the worst time to experiment with new foods that your body may or may not agree with.

Besides eating a balanced breakfast, Dr. Rekha Kumar, MD, a senior medical advisor and obesity medicine specialist at Found, notes that on challenging days, she likes to have egg whites, feta and spinach in a whole wheat wrap. “I'll often save the second half of the wrap for mid-morning, which helps prevent a dip in blood sugar and keeps my energy steady through back-to-back meetings or patient visits,” she tells Parade.

This is similar to endocrinologistDr. Ayushi Dixit, MD's pick: a three-egg omelette with spinach, peppers and onions sauteed in olive oil with half an avocado and berries on the side. It checks all the nutrient boxes for blood sugar balance.   

Dr. Kumar adds that she also makes it a point to stay hydrated, which also contributes to blood sugar control. “I bring a water bottle to work with creatine and electrolytes mixed in, so I'm supporting muscle health and optimizing hydration in one step, without needing to carve out separate time for it,” she says.

How To Support Your Body During Stressful Times Through What You Eat

Besides starting the day off with a balanced breakfast, there are other ways you can support your blood sugar on days you know are going to be stressful. Something all six endocrinologists say that you definitely don’t want to do is skip meals. 

When you do eat something, Dr. Pandey says to aim for that aforementioned nutrient balance, focusing on protein, unsaturated fats and complex carbohydrates. She explains that this can look like peanut butter on whole wheat crackers, brown rice with chicken or beef, or eggs on sourdough bread. It also means skipping ultra-processed foods like cookies and pastries, which are notorious for raising blood sugar.

Dr. Dixit says that minimizing caffeine consumption in the morning and alcohol in the evening is another great way to avoid blood sugar peaks and drops. 

If possible, Dr. Alcorn recommends figuring out what you’re going to eat in advance. That way, it takes the decision of what to eat off your plate, helping to relieve some stress. He also suggests avoiding overeating, which can lead to feeling worse and negatively impact blood sugar. “Eat until you are satisfied, but not stuffed; about 80% full,” he says.

Other Ways To Support Your Blood Sugar During Stressful Times

Diet isn’t the only way you can keep your blood sugar levels steady on stressful days. Dr. Dixit says that taking a short walk after eating is another great way to support blood sugar. Walking is beneficial for mental health too, which can help with feeling more at ease on hard days as well. 

It can also be helpful to incorporate habits that help you feel a greater sense of calm into your days. “Meditation and breathing exercises, listening to soft or calming music and talking with friends and family members can all help calm the stress hormone down,” Dr. Pandey says.

All of the doctors emphasize the importance of getting good sleep. “Sleep is one of the biggest factors people underestimate. Even one night of poor sleep can make the body more insulin resistant the next day,” Dr. Garcia notes.

Stress is something that no one can avoid, which is why it’s helpful to have a plan on how you’re going to support your body when you experience it. “One of the biggest misconceptions is that managing blood sugar is only about avoiding sugar. In reality, it’s about taking care of your overall health,” Dr. Garcia says. 

You certainly can’t control everything that happens to you, but you can control how you choose to treat your body. Balanced blood sugar and a balanced mind go hand in hand.

Roland Orzabel, who has fronted the rock band Tears for Fears since 1981, gets candid about the final years of his marriage that led him to find love before his wife, Caroline, death.

The "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" singer is coming clean in his new memoir, Welcome to Your Life, about having met writer and photographer Emily Rath while still married to his first wife. The two would end up striking up a relationship before Caroline's death in July 2017 due to complications from alcoholism-related dementia and cirrhosis.

According to the singer, he saw a "clear way forward" amid his first wife's deteriorating health. He explained to Fox News Digital that he wanted to tell the candid truth and didn't want to write "something false" when it came to his relationship with Rath that many would have seen as cruel.

“I’d spent years and years with Caroline in this state,” Orzabal reflected. “It wasn’t just a year or six months. And yes, I had enough. I was shown a clear way forward.”

He added that he hoped their story would help others as "somewhere out there is someone who’s going through what you went through." In his book, he details having met Roth in October 2016 and immediately thinking "that's my wife" when he spotted her in Colorado as the band was performing at Red Rocks.

Orzabel also revealed in his memoir that he was surprised by his own thoughts towards Rath, and he was "already married" and she "looked nothing like Caroline." Even the singer admits that their 25-year age gap was tough, but they swapped numbers and their relationship started as friends.

"The truth is, I was falling in love with Emily before Caroline had died," he admitted.

The singer and Caroline had been together since they were teens and had two children, but he admits their relationship became strained over the years as his career took off. They went through several years of marriage troubles until they settled down into a more routine life in the 2000s, and that's when Caroline changed. She would explain her mental health issues were related to menopause, but Orzabel says it got "worse and worse."

As Caroline's health worsened, multiple doctors' visits and her "slowly melting away," he began noticing signs of her excessive drinking. She would also have her good and bad moments, and while many told him to leave, he couldn't. The singer admits, "maybe I should have done something about it earlier or left. Sounds harsh."

“I was at a crossroads, a tipping point, if you like,” wrote Orzabal. “A tipping point that would redefine my life. With all the things that were going on with Caroline, with all the visits to psychiatrists, to neurologists, to hepatologists, I was falling in love with a young, healthy woman who I believed loved me too and was the opposite of what I had left at home."

Orzabel also adds that while visiting her in a psychiatric hospital, he suddenly began to see an alternate life for himself, "which is hard to do — hard to take. But I did."

Following Carline's death, the Tears for Fears singer married Rath in 2020. They welcomed their first child together in June 2025.

Neil Diamond has written some of the most recognizable songs of the past six decades, but one remains especially meaningful to the legendary singer-songwriter.

In a new interview with Billboard, Diamond has named his deeply personal 1971 hit “I Am… I Said” as his favorite song, 55 years after its release.

"It’s hard to choose a favorite. They all ring a little bell inside me that has made them stand out and shine. They’re all my creations. But I think “I Am… I Said” is one that stands out," said Diamond.

And unlike some hits that famously came together in a matter of minutes, Diamond labored over “I Am… I Said” for four months before he was satisfied with it.

"It was tough to write and perform because it’s like an open wound and it refuses to succumb. It’s almost an exotic song because it goes to places that I never would have discussed. I could never go there until I finally opened up," the legendary singer-songwriter admitted. "There was difficulty in putting it out there, but it was very cleansing. It was painful at times to perform it. It doesn’t let me off the hook. It doesn’t say what I want to say in a way that excuses me. It’s my most vulnerable song."

The work paid off. Released as a single on March 15, 1971, “I Am… I Said” eventually climbed to No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also reached No. 4 in the U.K. and became a No. 1 hit in several countries, including Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa.

But its commercial success only tells part of the story. There was another unusual piece to the song's origin.

Diamond had unsuccessfully auditioned for a planned movie about comedian Lenny Bruce. According to an account he later shared with author David Wild for his book "He Is... I Say: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Neil Diamond," trying to inhabit Bruce's character stirred up intense emotions and ultimately helped lead Diamond to therapy. It was therapy that the song emerged from.

Out of that period came one of the most personal songs of his career.

“I Am… I Said” also earned Diamond his first Grammy Award nomination, for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male.

Later that year, the song appeared on Diamond's album Stones, with the original single opening the record and a reprise closing it. Diamond would also perform a memorable version on his landmark 1972 live album Hot August Night.

More than half a century after Diamond released “I Am… I Said,” the song found its way to another generation of musicians.

In May 2025, Audrey McGraw, the youngest daughter of country superstars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, chose “I Am… I Said” for her debut single. She was just 23 years old at the time.

McGraw explained to iHeartRadio that her connection to the song had been immediate.

“The first time I heard this song, I felt something deep in my soul,” she said, explaining that she later sat down at the piano late one night and began making the song her own.

It's a fitting second life for a song that began as Diamond's attempt to put some of his most difficult-to-articulate feelings into words.

More than 55 years after he spent four months painstakingly writing “I Am… I Said,” the song isn't simply one of Diamond's enduring hits. It's still the one he holds closest.

Most celebrities share an occasional awkward interaction or two with fans or critics, many of whom might make their thoughts on the performer's work achingly apparent.

Over this past weekend, such a tense interaction occurred between Scream star Matthew Lillard and an audience member who called out the actor during a horror convention in Long Beach, California.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Lillard joined Skeet Ulrich, Lee Waddell and others for a Q&A with convention attendees at the Midsummer Scream event.

During one question, Lillard stood face to face with a fan who revealed that he and the 56-year-old actor had met years prior, which, according to the fan in question, was a less than positive experience.

 “I met you a few years ago,” the fan started by saying, moving onto a story about how he tried sharing a fan theory that formed a connection between Scream and the 1995 romance film, Mad Love, starring Drew Barrymore.

Hearing the fan's explanation, the man said that Lillard responded by saying, "What were you smoking?”

“The way you made me feel...when you told me that, you kind of lost me as a fan,” the man told Lillard. “I just wanted you to know that.”

As the audience buzzed and snickered over the fan's words, Lillard briefly paused before taking the mic and saying, "What a great question," leading to further laughter from the crowd.

Humorously, from the stage, fellow Scream star Jamie Kennedy asked Lillard what exactly the ex-fan had said to him, only for Lillard to respond, “It does not matter. Next question!”

Along with his work in Scooby-Doo, Daredevil: Born Again and Fives Night at Freddy's, Lillard remains best known for his work in the Scream franchise, in which he played fan-favorite villain Stu Macher.

While his character was killed off in the original installment of the series, Lillard later reprised his role in the most recent entry in the franchise, Scream 7.

7UP is a beloved soda beverage with roots dating back to the 1920s, and today, Monday, Aug. 10, the brand announced what it's calling its "biggest flavor update" in more than 15 years.

The fizzy beverage company is "redefining the $5 billion lemon-lime category," according to a press release shared directly with Parade, by flipping the script on the flavors and moving forward with a lime-heavy flavor profile, as opposed to lemon. The reformulation puts lime at the center, "designed to strengthen the brand's distinctiveness and appeal with a new generation of drinkers." It is said to present a "brighter" taste.

Created by Charles Leiper Grigg in St. Louis, Missouri, 7UP launched in 1929 as the very first lemon-lime–flavored non-caffeinated soft drink.

“This is a bold reinvention of one of America’s most iconic soda brands for a new generation of consumers - starting with the flavor itself,” said Drew Panayiotou, Chief Marketing and Innovation Officer at Keurig Dr Pepper (KDP), in the news release. “7UP has an incredible legacy, but by giving lime the spotlight, we’re rewriting the rules of the lemon lime category. We are transforming a beloved heritage brand into a modern disruptor—delivering a sharper visual identity, a more refreshing taste experience, and a distinct position that attracts new users and deepens brand loyalty."

And the new flavor recipe isn't the only big change it's making.

In addition, the brand is undergoing a total design revamp, debuting a refreshed identity. 7UP Regular, 7UP Zero Sugar, Cherry 7UP, and Cherry 7UP Zero Sugar will feature a vertical logo, bolder colors, and more distinctive wrapping.

Luckily for inquiring tastebuds eager to see how considerable the taste difference actually is, the new release is already hitting store shelves. Fans can find 7UP Lime Lemon nationwide wherever 7UP products are sold, beginning in mid-August.

As Parade previously reported, earlier this year, 7UP moved into a new category, revealing its first-ever energy drink. In April, popular energy drink maker Ghost—which was recently acquired by Keurig Dr Pepper—announced the launch of Ghost Energy x 7Up, a “refreshing, nostalgic” new variety inspired by the citrusy soda.

In general, for an action movie to be considered enjoyable, it really just needs some impressive effects and incredible stunts. However, there are several entertaining action movies that also have well-crafted scripts and career-defining performances. For instance, in August 2026, the publication Collider published a list of "the 6 most perfect action movies released since 2000."

The ranking featured acclaimed action films like 2018's Mission: Impossible - Fallout, The Bourne Ultimatum from 2007, and The Raid: Redemption from 2011. According to Collider, the "most perfect" action film of the last 26 years is the 2015 movie Mad Max: Fury Road, which stars Charlize Theron as Furiosa and Tom Hardy as the titular character.

Mad Max: Fury Road, which was directed and co-written by Mad Max co-creator George Miller, has a score of 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Some of the most impressive scenes in Mad Max: Fury Road are the road wars, which called for the use of stunt work. In a 2015 interview with JoBlo Movie Network, Miller shared how those intense moments got onto the big screen.

"With a movie like this, you don't defy the laws of gravity, there's no flying men or spacecraft, you have to do it old school. Real, real world vehicles, real people in the desert virtually playing it out for real," said Miller during the interview.

He clarified that the crew was "obsessed with safety" during the stunt-heavy film's production.

"When fatigue sets in and so on you can things can go really, really wrong. But we had a fantastic crew, rigging crew, special effects crew, stunt crew, our cast were up for it," said Miller while speaking to JoBlo Movie Network.

In addition, Miller said that the members of the cast, which also included Nicholas Hoult as Nux, Zoë Kravitzas Toast the Knowing, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley as The Splendid Angharad, and Riley Keough as Capable, "were very athletic." He also noted that special effects had improved, making stunts safer, since the first Mad Max film, which premiered in 1979.

"The big thing compared to the old days, you can put cables on people, keep them from falling to their deaths, as it were, so you can play it out on the vehicles and it's so easy to erase those cables. And that makes a big difference," said the filmmaker, now 81.

Gillian Anderson, who rose to stardom on The X-Files, just turned 58. However, fans can barely believe it thanks to her ageless looks.

The beloved actress, 58, who rose to stardom in the role of Dana Scully alongside David Duchovny on The X-Files, is having quite a renaissance. She made waves in recent years for roles in shows like Sex Education, in which she plays a sex therapist. Finding Her Worth As She Ages

Back in March, Anderson participated in L’Oréal’s Lessons of Worth campaign, which pushes back against the idea that women become invisible with age.

When you’re young, “you’re noticed, you’re needed, you’re whistled at, you’re even hit on. And then a few years later, poof, you don’t exist. You’re in the way,” Anderson shared in her campaign video. “I don’t believe that we will ever be able to change the minds of men in terms of how they perceive women and aging,” Anderson told InStyle. However, she said age has only improved her experience of herself. “I’ve never felt more alive, in my skin, clear-headed, purposeful, free of self-judgment.”

When it comes to what advice she’d give herself in her twenties and thirties, Anderson spoke candidly.

“To care less about what other people think and do more for other people,” she shared.

Outlander star Caitríona Balfe is back on TV! The actress is transitioning from the STARZ epic romantic drama to headline the new Apple TV series Ascension from Alfonso Cuarón.

The logline for the series is as follows: Rose (Balfe) is “a relentless documentary filmmaker and recently divorced mother, brilliant at uncovering others’ truths but struggling to resolve her own. When Rose begins a project on a mysterious 20th-century cult known as the Church of Ascension, she finds unexpected refuge in its teachings – until she discovers something far more insidious beneath.”

Cuarón has been working on the series, inspired by the novel Last Days by Adam Nevill, for years and will serve as co-writer on the series along with his brother Carlos Cuarón, as well as Natalie Erika James and Christian White, with all four executive producing. Balfe will also executive produce in addition to starring.

This marks Balfe’s second collaboration with Apple TV. The first is a role in the upcoming original film Tenzing, which also stars Tom Hiddleston and Willem Dafoe. Tenzing follows Sherpa guide Tenzing Norgay and New Zealand climber Edmund Hillary as they overcome political tension, class divides, and dangerous weather to achieve the first successful summit of Mount Everest during the 1953 British expedition.

“So proud to be a part of this stunning film,” Balfre posted on Instagram of Tenzing. “I got to return to my favourite place in the world and met the most wonderful people.”

Balfe received four Golden Globe nominations for her work on Outlander. Her film credits include Belfast (which earned her another Golden Globe nod), Ford v. Ferrari, Now You See Me, and The Amateur and The Cut.

Critical opinion over best-selling author J.K. Rowling has shifted repeatedly over the years, with many of the writer's fans and foremost collaborators taking a complex view of her personal views towards the transgender community.

Most recently, for example, actress Bel Powley fiercely disagreed with Rowling's stance on the sensitive topics, making her feelings clear in a recent interview withThe Telegraph.

“I strongly disagree with J.K. Rowling’s views on gender," the actress, who has been cast in HBO's new Harry Potter TV series, told the outlet. "I think that the trans community deserve safety and dignity and respect and total acceptance.”

As much as the actress said she disagreed with Rowling's views on gender, she also reiterated her love for the author's work on the Harry Potter series, referring to herself as an avid fan of the books.

"But I love Harry Potter," she continued. "I grew up with the books. I am from that first generation of readers and, again, I love magic and spookiness.”

Powley joins the cast of HBO's Harry Potter as Petunia Dursley, the emotionally abusive aunt to young Harry Potter. Powley joins a long cast list of exceptional talents, including John Lithgow, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Nick Frost as Hagrid, among many others.

While many fans remain excited about the new series, others have expressed skepticism about Rowling's involvement in the project, with the British writer currently slated to serve as an executive producer on the show.

Over the years, Rowling has regularly found herself in the center of controversy for her polarizing statements on the transgender community, as shared by The Week.

Previously, several stars set to appear in the HBO adaptation of Harry Potter have spoken about Rowling's statements, with John Lithgow sharing his thoughts about the controversy on an episode of The New Yorker Radio Hour.

“The reasons to do it were much, much stronger than the reasons to protest against what Rowling has done and said,” said Lithgow, who is set to play Dumbledore in the new series. “I do disagree with much of it, much of it I think has been twisted and misrepresented, and she has doubled down on it at her own cost.”

Would I Buy Them Again?

At $3 a bag, you really can't go wrong adding these chips to your basket. In fact, I'm going back this week to stock up before they're completely sold out. As a standalone snack, Trader Joe's definitely hit the nail on the head when it comes to combining quintessential deli flavors into one satisfyingly crunchy, kettle-cooked chip. 

Would I buy them again? Absolutely. Should you race to your local Trader Joe's and snag a bag while they're still on the shelves? I certainly wouldn't tell you not to. They're criminally affordable, dangerously zesty and, dare I say, one of the better Trader Joe's chip releases since Ghost Pepper Potato Chips. Take that with a grain of salt, of course, and try them for yourself before getting back to me with your thoughts on the comparison.

Family Affair was one of the most beloved sitcoms on TV all the way through the 60s and 70s, but Kathy Garver recalls the eerie moment when her co-star Anissa Jones' mother asked her to help her daughter months before her death.

Jones was only six years old when she began her acting career in commercials before being cast in CBS's Family Affair when she was eight. She played the title role of Buffy Davis, one of the orphaned children Brian Keith's leading character tries to raise after his on-screen brother's death.

The sitcom was a hit that ran for five seasons and produced 138 episodes during its run. Jones was 12 when the sitcom came to an end in 1971 and would die years later in 1976 at the age of 18.

In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, Garver looks back at working with Jones and the plea her mother made one day. On screen, Garver played Jones' on-screen sister, 15-year-old Cissy, and remembers having attended her co-star's 18th birthday.

“I remember going to her 18th birthday party, and her mom coming up to me and saying, ‘I wish you’d spend more time with Anissa because she’s in the wrong crowd,’” recalled Garver.

“I said that I’d love to. I was leaving the next day to go back east to do the musical My Fair Lady. I’d be gone for two months, but as soon as I got back, absolutely. We were very close. She spent the night at my house a couple times.”

Unknown to her, it would be one of the last times she would ever see Jones, and her mother's plea would lead to heartache. Jones' birthday and the conversation occurred in March, with the actor dying a few months later in August of a drug overdose. According to reports, she was found dead after a night of partying with her boyfriend and others in a beachside home belonging to a friend's father.

Authorities determined the parties' guests ranged from 12 to 22 years old, and Jones' death was ruled an accident. An investigation that had already begun before her death led authorities to arrest Dr. Don Carlos Moshos for illegally prescribing Seconal, a barbiturate, to the actor. Moshos was charged with 11 offenses, with his murder charges dropped before his death.

“These drugs kill people,” Garver said. “It’s just so sad. We’ve lost so many of the child stars because of the drugs, and there’s no one there [to support them].”

The Family Affair actor explains the "emotional and psychological" impact that stardom at a young age causes. Having herself begun acting at seven years old, she explains that amid young actors trying to find their identity and being pushed from the spotlight, they are thrust "into a ‘Who am I? Where am I? What am I doing? [scenario ,]."

“They go to the drugs and the groups that are happy to have them be there," she adds. Jones' brother Paul would also die from a drug overdose at the age of 24 in 1984.

In 1972, the youngest of the Osmond brothers hit the No. 1 spot on the charts — at just nine years old.

Jimmy Osmondreleased "Long Haired Lover From Liverpool" under his previous stage name of Little Jimmy Osmond in the United States on Mar. 25, 1972. The song, which was written by Christopher Kingsley and produced by Mike Curb and Perry Botkin Jr., was originally recorded and released by Kingsley in 1969, but it wasn't the success that he had hoped.

The company that distributed the original single was the same company that the Osmond Brothers were signed to. Per Gold Radio, after hearing the track, Jimmy's mom suggested to the label that he record his own version of the song as his first solo single.

A United Kingdom release followed, timed to the brothers' U.K. tour, when Osmondmania had really taken a hold across the pond. Jimmy's cover of "Long Haired Lover From Liverpool" entered the U.K. charts in Nov. 1972 and claimed the top spot on the Official Singles Chart on Dec. 23, 1972. That year, the track took the coveted Christmas No. 1 spot — a huge deal in the U.K. music world.

"Long Haired Lover From Liverpool" stayed on top for five weeks, with Jimmy making history for the accomplishment.

At just nine years and eight months old, he earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest person ever to reach No. 1 on the U.K. Singles Chart. Per the Liverpool Echo, by 2009, the single had sold 998,000 copies.

"I had no idea, and I didn’t know what the song was about," Jimmy admitted to U.K. Music Reviews. "The song was really about The Beatles."

He reflected on the song's recording: "The family then went on to have hits with One Bad Apple, Yo-Yo, and Down By The Lazy River, and my mother didn’t want me to be left behind. She and our record producer Mike Curb found this song and I recorded it, and it just became, to this day, one of the biggest-selling records ever. And it’s funny, but I love to rub that in."

If you grew up with the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise like I did, the original Star Trek has been a familiar and welcome source of optimism for decades. And although many of the actors who first pulled on those Starfleet uniforms are gone now, the surviving members of the original cast are revisiting that optimism one more time by coming together to tell their story.

The film is titled The Sixty-Year Mission: How Star Trek Changed Television and the World, and it will open exclusively in Regal cinemas across the United States on October 9. The documentary hasWilliam Shatner, the original Captain Kirk, as an executive producer and interview subject. He is joined by George Takei and Walter Koenig, the two other living members of the show's founding ensemble. Shatner, now 95, last played Kirk on screen in 1994's Star Trek Generations, and his part here is as much steward as subject.

Star Trek premiered on NBCon September 8, 1966, with an episode called "The Man Trap," (a milestone being celebrated by Noah Wild and the cast of The Pitt). The series lasted only three seasons before finding a second life in syndication. The show nearly ended after its second season, saved by a fan letter-writing campaign that convinced NBC its audience was larger than the ratings showed. The documentary traces that origin and the decades that followed, promising a behind-the-scenes account that, in the words of its official synopsis, proves "truth is indeed stranger than science-fiction."

Behind the camera is Mark A. Altman, the writer and director who wrote the definitive book on the subject with his 2016 oral history The Fifty-Year Mission. "This film is a love letter to Star Trek," Altman said in a statement, framing the theatrical release as a birthday gift to fans. The Fifty-Year Mission earned a reputation as a candid, unvarnished account, and the film's website tallies more than 50 stars, creatives and fans among its voices. The interview roster stretches across every era, with Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Gates McFadden and Denise Crosby from The Next Generation, Nana Visitor from Deep Space Nine, Robert Picardo from Voyager, and Ethan Peck and Christina Chong from Strange New Worlds. Gene Roddenberry's son, Rod, appears as well.

The timing arrives at a somewhat odd time for Trek fans. There are no new series or films in active production and Strange New Worlds is winding down with a shortened final season. Producer Michael S. Broder of Galaxie Pictures said the Regal run will bring "key Star Trek talent" into theaters for live Q&A sessions, and La-La-Land Records is releasing the soundtrack. The anniversary itself falls on September 8, with the documentary following about a month behind it.

That revelation prompted Allen to praise his son-in-law's selflessness.

"What people would think is a simple, I would say sacrifice—it's not always simple, right?" he pointed out. "Because it's something that you lost, something that means something to you on your day. And I'm proud of you, man. Because for what it's worth, for me, you're doing a f--king great job, kid."

After Colin thanked Allen and told him that his comment "means a lot," Allen discussed the gesture with producers.

"You know, despite our disagreements towards future planning in life, my biggest expectation for Colin this whole time is to love my daughter. Love her for who she is," the doting father explained. "And over the last year, there has been a couple of moments that Colin has decided to give up something from himself for my kid. And it's extremely honorable. And as a father, that is who I truly want for my daughter."
