In the winter of 1963, John and Michelle Phillips were freezing in New York City and dreaming of sunny California. Out of that homesick longing came "California Dreamin'" by The Mamas & the Papas—a folk song that almost didn't happen, took years to become a hit, and somehow ended up one of the most enduring summer anthems of all time.

As music lore goes, John woke Michelle up in the middle of the night to help finish the song. Michelle says now that she only wrote the second verse, which was based on a day the couple was walking on 5th Avenue and she ducked to St. Patrick's Cathedral to take a peek. The cold, the longing, the church she ducked into—it was all written in the song, but it still had a long ways to go before it would become a hit.

Skip ahead to 1965, before The Mamas & the Papas got signed, and Michelle says in an interview with Strange Brew, "We were completely out of money. We had ‘California Dreamin’ at that point. John and I had written that a couple of years before but it was kind of one of those songs that we wrote, we threw it in the drawer and kind of forgot about it."

The song was originally recorded by singer Barry McGuire with The Mamas & the Papas (aka, John and Michelle Phillips, Denny Doherty, and Cass Elliot) on backup vocals. It was during this initial recording that the group garnered interest from Lou Adler, head producer of Dunhill Records, where they scored their first contract. Both tracks were released in December 1965, but it ended up being the famously re-recorded version by The Mamas & the Papas, with Doherty singing, that popularized the song.

The Mamas & the Papas released "California Dreamin'" as a single on December 8, 1965, but the song was not an immediate hit. It gained little traction in Los Angeles until an east coast radio station helped break it nationwide. "We heard it on the radio once and then we didn’t hear it," Michelle recalled. "We were just about to give up on it when it broke in Boston. And when that broke in Boston, it broke all over the United States and all over the world."

By January 8, 1966, the folk-rock anthem debuted on the Billboard Hot 100, and by March 12, it peaked at No. 4, where it remained on the charts for 17 weeks. 

"It never got to number one," explained Michelle in an interview with Strange Brew. "It got number four. That’s as far as it got. But you can’t imagine the kind of people we were up against. We were against The Beatles. We were against The Stones. We were up against everybody at Motown. It was all English invasion. If you got your record to number four on the Billboard charts, you were thrilled. And we were."

The 1960s hit song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001, and certified three-times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in June 2023.

Today it makes perfect sense that the sunshine pop song written about longing for warmth amid a blustery winter became a defining song in the era's iconic "California sound." "California Dreamin'" captures sunshine, freedom, and escape with every magical note. It's even been deemed one of the most iconic summer songs. PMA Magazine recently ranked the '60s classic No. 4 on their "The Most Iconic Summer Songs of All Time" list.

Sixty years later, the song continues its lasting legacy. It's been covered by countless artists across genres and popped up in films, TV, and commercials for decades. In 2024, "California Dreamin'" was ranked No. 420 on Rolling Stone list "500 Greatest Songs of All Time."

To date, the folk-rock song has over 1.3 billion streams on Spotify. It's also quite meaningful that the 1986 Beach Boys cover of the song has 88.4 million streams and the Sia cover from the 2015 San Andreas movie soundtrack has 97.9 million streams.

Even on TikTok, a search of the tag #californiadreamin currently delivers more than 265K posts that include vintage clips of The Mamas and the Papas performing, covers of the song, and celebratory tributes to California.

Six decades after the lush harmonies of "California Dreamin'" first transported listeners to their warm and happy place, the song still feels like an arrival. It's the audio equivalent of pulling off the highway after a long, windows-down drive toward the sunny coast.

Fifty-five years ago, the iconic hard rock band Ten Years After released "I’d Love to Change the World,” a song that would become an enduring counterculture anthem despite never quite capturing the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

Released on August 31, 1971 as the lead single from their sixth studio album, A Space in Time, "I’d Love to Change the World" was a slow-burn success. After persistent playtime on radio airwaves, the track picked up major traction and entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart, where it peaked at No. 40.

Ten Years After was already experiencing a significant rise in demand from audiences after their killer 1969 Woodstock performance, and the new single only amplified their newfound career height. The single's parent album went on to be certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for selling over 1 million copies worldwide—a feat that attests to their major rise in fame.

Given my frequent use of them in the kitchen, I often find myself wondering about the best way to juice lemons—I'm talking about the method for extracting the maximum amount of juice with the least effort. While squeezing a lemon seems like a simple enough task, the range of available tools—hand-squeezers, manual juicers, electric presses and more—can make the job a bit more complex than it initially seems. The right technique can make a world of difference, especially when you're trying to extract every last drop of that precious juice.

To help you find the very best technique to juice lemons, I headed outside to my lemon tree (no joke), grabbed some fruit and got to work. At the end of my experiment, I had a clear winner. Read on for all of the juicy details.

The Best Way To Prep a Lemon for Juicing

Before we get started, a few notes on prepping your lemons. When it comes to efficiency and effectiveness, the real measure is how easily you can extract the maximum amount of juice. To ensure this, there are two essential steps I always recommend, whether you're juicing oranges, lemons or limes.

Roll your fruit

Always roll your fruit on the counter before juicing. Gently apply pressure while rolling—just enough to soften without damaging the skin. This simple step helps break the membranes inside the fruit, resulting in more juice when you go to squeeze.

Use room-temperature fruit

Always let your fruit sit at room temperature for a bit before juicing. Warm citrus yields significantly more liquid than if it were cold, and the pulp becomes softer, making it easier to extract every last drop. If you store your lemons in the fridge, let them rest on the counter for about 30 minutes to an hour for the best results.

How I Tested These Lemon-Juicing Methods

To find the most streamlined way to extract citrus juice, I tested six different methods, aiming to maximize yield while minimizing effort. I evaluated each based on ease of use, how much pulp and seeds were left behind, and how much cleanup was required.

While I used ripe, similarly sized lemons for consistency during our testing, each of these methods would work just as well for oranges and limes. Interestingly, the overall yield for each method was very similar, but each had its own unique set of advantages and challenges.

6 Popular Lemon-Juicing Methods Ranked from Worst to Best

From hand-squeezing to more advanced gadgets, each option has its pros and cons. Below, we’ve ranked them from least effective to most efficient to help you find the best option for your needs.

6. Cut in half and squeeze with tongs

This method proved to be more trouble than it’s worth. Despite its promise of efficiency and the convenience of using tongs that most people already have on hand—no additional tools needed—the squeezed fruit slipped out before I could extract any juice, causing a mess on the floor.

Unless you have a foolproof way to stabilize the fruit while squeezing, I wouldn't recommend this option. This method's unpredictability makes it both frustrating and messy.

5. Cut lengthwise

Despite internet promises, I also found minimal benefit in cutting the lemon lengthwise vs cutting it crosswise. The juice output was comparable to cutting it horizontally, but this method resulted in many more seeds that had to be strained.

Straining the juice through a sieve to catch any pulp or seeds is easy enough; however, that extra step (and the extra item to clean) is exactly what wasn't ideal. There’s no real advantage to this approach, and I wouldn’t recommend it if your goal is to eliminate extra cleanup.

4. Citrus reamer

The citrus reamer performs adequately, but once again, you can expect to encounter a fair number of seeds in the extracted juice. While it’s a simple and familiar tool, it’s not the best because you'll need to strain seeds afterward. It's also worth noting that straining will result in some juice being lost in the process.

3. Long skewer or metal straw

This was another internet hack I ran across, and the method proved unexpectedly fruitful (pun intended!). By using a large skewer or metal straw to puncture the lemon at one end, you can watch the juice flow out effortlessly, with minimal seeds. While it can get a bit messy as the juice continues to flow until the fruit is tilted upward, it requires little effort and eliminates the need for a knife or cutting board.

If squeezing is a challenge for you, this simple, almost mess-free technique offers a fantastic alternative. Skewers are available in bulk for under $5 on Amazon, making them a very affordable tool.

2. Citrus press

A favorite among many home cooks, the citrus press is a user-friendly tool that does the job with relative ease. However, if you have a weak grip, getting every last drop of juice may require extra effort, sometimes even forcing you to use both hands.

Overall, the press does a fantastic job of fully juicing the fruit, with minimal seeds and pulp in the finished product. The only caveat is that the juice can spray, so it’s important to use a sufficiently large juicing bowl to catch the liquid. A handheld citrus press can be purchased for approximately $10-$15 on Amazon.

1. Electric juicer

By far the most effective method, and my favorite, for extracting juice, an electric juicer guarantees maximum yield with minimal seeds and pulp.

While not everyone may have this tool on hand, and the cleanup can be a bit of a hassle—especially with small holes designed to catch seeds and pulp requiring extra attention—the benefits truly outweigh the drawbacks when it comes to selecting the best juicing option.

What I love most is the ability to control the amount of pulp in the finished product. (Because sometimes, especially with orange juice, you might want just a little pulp.)

Those who are retired or about to retire may have been feeling stressed out about the state of the economy as changes in the stock market caused some accounts to fluctuate. Now, a new report from Fidelity highlights just how much has changed during the first quarter of the new year, and just how big of a hit those 401(k) and IRA accounts took.

Average Retirement Balances Have Dropped

According to the report, the average retirement account balances have taken a hit, with the following breakdown:

• IRAs are down 4 percent from Q4 in 2025
• 401(k)s are down 4 percent from Q4 in 2025
• 403(b)s are down 3 percent from Q4 in 2025

However, the news isn't all bad, since balances are up 22 percent, 14 percent, and 21 percent, respectively, compared to where they stood in Q1 2021. In fact, Fidelity notes that while the balances dipped at the start of 2026, they were actually up over a variety of time frames, including "one, five, and 10 years ago."

More People Increased Their Savings Rates and Adoption

The report had more good news, including that almost one in five 401(k) users increased their savings rate in the first quarter. Additionally, IRA contributions were up 29 percent year-over-year. Fidelity notes that Roth IRAs were likely the driving factor.

"Retirement savers started the year strong with record-high savings rates and contributions, reflecting the long-term approach they’re taking with retirement preparedness," Sharon Brovelli, President of Workplace Investing at Fidelity Investments, said in a statement about the report. "While it can be tempting to make changes to retirement savings during market volatility, it is positive to see participants stay the course with their contributions–an approach that will strengthen their outcomes as retirement nears."

One Generation Saw a Big Increase in Savings

Fidelity says that all of this broke down generationally, with just 5 percent of Millennials adjusting their assets during the first quarter of 2026, indicating that this generation decided to stay the course amid market turbulence. However, younger generations may have been looking more towards the future, according to the report, since Gen Z's total IRA contributions increased by a whopping 65 percent year-over-year.

And that's not all: more than one in five Gen Z savers also contributed to a Roth 401(k). That's probably part of the reason Fidelity says this generation is leading in IRA growth.

That's great news for these younger generations, since those compound earnings can really start to add up as they get closer to retirement. That's because this early and robust adoption of retirement savings plans puts them in a better position not only to retire on time but also to keep themselves financially afloat throughout their golden years. With some retirees saying their biggest fear is outliving their retirement savings, this could go a long way toward easing this generation's mind and giving them enough money to ensure their nest egg is padded.

In 1971, "Peace Train" offered listeners a hopeful vision of unity and optimism that continues to resonate more than five decades later.

The song became one of Cat Stevens' most enduring hits and a beloved road trip anthem, even though it never reached No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100.

Built around an uplifting acoustic guitar rhythm and a singalong chorus, "Peace Train" perfectly captured the hopeful spirit that defined much of the early 1970s singer-songwriter movement. The track appeared on Stevens' landmark album, Teaser and the Firecat, which also featured classics such as "Moonshadow" and "Morning Has Broken."

At the time, Stevens had already become one of the world's most successful singer-songwriters thanks to his introspective lyrics and melodic folk-rock sound. Among his songs, "Peace Train" particularly stood out because of its message of hope and togetherness.

Using the image of a train carrying people toward a better future, Stevens crafted a song that felt both deeply personal and universally relatable. The optimistic lyrics connected strongly with audiences during a period marked by social change and political uncertainty.

"How do you create the environment for peace on your train? In your life?" Stevens reflected on Sirius XM in 2017. "Other people are gonna come in, try to disturb it, and do all sorts of things and we don't know where, exactly what station we're going to be getting off at. So, I would say it's a beautiful metaphor for how to consider the oneness of humanity and how we all have to live together. We're gonna try and create peace because we're all headed for the same place in the end."

The song quickly became one of Stevens' biggest international hits and remains one of the recordings most closely associated with his career.

Over the decades, "Peace Train" developed an especially strong connection to travel and adventure. Its rolling rhythm, positive message and sense of forward motion made it a natural fit for road trips, playlists and moments of reflection. The song's enduring popularity has also helped introduce Stevens' music to younger generations, many of whom first discover it through streaming playlists devoted to classic rock, folk rock and travel-themed music.

Following his conversion to Islam in the late 1970s, Stevens largely stepped away from the pop music spotlight before eventually returning to recording and touring under the name Yusuf.

"You're born, then you're given your identity," he told Mojo. "Your parents tell you who you are and in the end you're left with your own resources to find out exactly who you want to be. A lot of people don't really take the time to find out."

Yet, songs like "Peace Train" have continued to transcend generations and cultural shifts.

More than 50 years after its release, the song remains a staple of classic rock radio and one of the most beloved feel-good anthems of the singer-songwriter era, serving as a reminder of a time when a simple melody and hopeful message could bring people together.

Cage, 62, is known for loving comic book characters. He's the star of Spider-Noir, which follows private investigator Ben Reilly in 1930s New York. The actor was famously cast as Superman for Tim Burton's cancelled movie, Superman Lives.

The actor named his son with Alice Kim, Kal-El. People long believed this was because of his love for Clark Kent, who was born with the same name on Krypton.

"Well he loves the name. What's interesting is I wasn't a Superman enthusiast; I grew up reading the monsters, like Ghost Rider and the Incredible Hulk," the actor told Entertainment Tonight. "That's what interested me. The Superman thing is just something that happened."

He gave another source of inspiration for the name. "It's actually a Hebrew name, it means 'Voice of God,'" he said. "I always thought Kal-El is a beautiful name. So I gave him the name, but it wasn't because of some sort of adoration of Superman."

Cage's love for Ghost Rider is also not a secret. He played the character in the 2007 movie with the same name and the sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

The actor's son will be 21 years old this year. His only role was voicing young Bruce Wayne in Teen Titans Go! To the Movies. It's only fitting since his father's career has been tied to comic book adaptations for years.

Some of America’s wealthiest couples are collecting more than $100,000 in yearly Social Security benefits, but a new proposal suggests capping that total. Partly due to the Trump administration’s changes, including a bump in benefits, the Social Security trust fund is projected to be depleted in 2032. This may be a way to help extend it.

The Proposal

In a new report, CBS cites the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, which suggests capping Social Security at $100,000 for couples and $50,000 for individuals at the top. If this cap is instituted, it’ll save an estimated $190 billion over the next decade and close about 20% of the program’s solvency gap, but truthfully that's not enough on its own. 

Who Are These $100k Collectors

Currently, about 1 million people are in this category, which is about 2% of the roughly 70 million Americans enrolled in the program. Couples who earned at least $184,500, the Social Security taxable maximum income, for a minimum of 35 years and waited to take their retirement until full retirement age will be the ones affected. 

The average Social Security check for a retired worker is about $2,081, a stark contrast to the $8,416 these high-income recipients are collecting.

The Pushback

AARP has argued against the cap, stating that allowing the Social Security Administration to implement cuts now could lead to benefits that depend on the fluctuating stock market in the future. It’s a slippery slope that rights’ advocates see as potentially troublesome. 

There are other proposals on the table, like raising the payroll tax cap, to help avoid Social Security insolvency. And the Trump Administration says that J.D. Vance found “billions and billions and billions” that could save the entire program, although there’s no verifiable proof that’s true.

What It Means For You

Most Americans won’t fall into the category of individuals who will be capped in their monthly payments. On the other hand, most Americans will be negatively affected if the funds run out in 2032, as projected. If this happens, retirees will see a cut of up to 28%in their monthly benefits. 

The most important thing, with the clock ticking toward the 2032 deadline, is that Congress takes aggressive action to ensure the program remains active. Find out what your representatives are doing to help save Social Security, and demand they make a decision soon.

As more people live longer, it’s important that the program we paid into throughout our working lives continues to support us all.

As America prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, a lot is being done to mark the milestone. And while some of that includes fireworks, new merchandise, and massive concerts, the latest news out of the Trump administration points to a surprising development: a new piece of currency.

The U.S. Treasury Department has released a draft of a new $250 bill featuring Donald Trump's face, making it the first time a living president has graced a piece of our country's currency since 1866. However, some say it's unlikely to happen, citing an old law that could prevent this bill from seeing the light of day.

Will Donald Trump be on the $250 Bill

According to USA Today, the Treasury Department has a mock-up designed for the new bill, which features the president's portrait. According to a Treasury representative, the department is "conducting appropriate planning and due diligence" in order to mint the bill.

However, there's a major hurdle to hop over before that can happen, and it involves getting approval from Congress, because federal law says that only a "deceased individual" may be featured on U.S. currency and securities. This rule dates back to 1866, after USA Today says that then-Superintendent of the National Currency Bureau Spencer Clark put his own image on U.S. currency.

As of the time of publication, the bill, which was sponsored by Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina, hasn't made much progress.

Who Designed the Proposed $250 Bill?

The image of the president was created by a British painter named Iain Alexander, and Trump has signed off on the designs, according to The Washington Post. In addition to the president's portrait, the mockup of the bill also features Trump's signature as well as that of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

Bessent himself seems to be a fan of the idea of the bill, saying "I don't think that there's anything untoward about having the person who is president of United States on the 250th anniversary bill", during a press conference. However, USA Today notes that, given the procedures and protocols involved in printing new money, it doesn't seem likely the commemorative bill would enter production this year.

Trump May Appear on a Coin

While the fate of the $250 bill remains in the air, a federal commission voted in March to approve a commemorative coin featuring the president's image. NBC News says that the Commission of Fine Arts approved the design, which features Trump and the years 2026 and 1776.

"As we approach our 250th birthday, we are thrilled to prepare coins that represent the enduring spirit of our country and democracy, and there is no profile more emblematic for the front of such coins than that of our serving President, Donald J. Trump," U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach said in a statement at the time.

But, while the coin has received approval, it may face the same fate as the bill, as Newsweek reports that the coin is unlikely to be put into production prior to the July 4th holiday.

A judge recently blocked the Kennedy Center’s name change, and it looks like President Donald Trump won’t get his way. That is, at least for the time being.

On Friday, May 29, U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper ordered the Trump administration to remove all signage with the president’s name, as well as all references to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as the Trump Kennedy Center. The federal judge reportedly ruled that the presdient’s name was illegally added to the venue.

Along with instructing the administration to restore the cultural center’s original name, he also stopped the upcoming renovation project that was slated to close the building for the next two years.

The federal judge concluded that only an Act of Congress could officially change the name of the Kennedy Center, writing, “The Board of Trustees’ December 18, 2025 resolution purporting to rename the Kennedy Center the “Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts” the “Trump Kennedy Center,” or any variation thereof, is null, void, and without legal effect.” 

Cooper also added that the Center’s Board of Trustees and Trump, “violated the Kennedy Center’s organic statute in purporting to rename the Center for President Trump, and in taking steps to effectuate that official renaming, such as installing signage with Donald J. Trump’s name on the front portico of the Center,” giving the “defendants” 14 days from the order to remove all physical signage, update the Kennedy Center’s official website, and withdraw any trademark applications that make reference to the Center as the “Trump Kennedy Center.”

Ohio Democratic U.S. Representative Joyce Beatty, who is also a Kennedy Center board member, initiated the lawsuit. Following the court’s decision, Beatty issued a public statement, sharing her thoughts on social media: “Today’s ruling rightfully affirms that this administration’s efforts to rename and close the Center have no basis in law.”

Beatty continued, “The Kennedy Center is an institution that belongs to the American people, not to Donald Trump. He has desecrated this sacred memorial for his own vanity. I am proud to have fought for the rule of law and to protect this sacred institution.” 

Typically, audiences seek out thrilling action movies to be engaged, enthralled, and thoroughly entertained. However, some action thrillers are simply more entertaining than others. For instance, the publication Collider recently shared a list of the top "10 most entertaining action thrillers of all time."

The ranking, published on May 29, featured beloved movies with plenty of action and thrills like 1994's Speed, The Fugitive from 1993, 2007's The Bourne Ultimatum, andHard Boiled, released in 1992. Collider named the 1988 filmDie Hard, adapted from Roderick Thorp's 1979 novel Nothing Lasts Forever, the number one most "entertaining action thriller" ever made.

According to Collider, the film, focusing on John McClane (Bruce Willis) bravely and cleverly going against Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman), should be recognized for the cast's brilliance as their respective characters.

Die Hard has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 94 percent and grossed a total of $83,088,552 worldwide, per Box Office Mojo.

Collider reported that Die Hard marked Rickman's first time starring in a film. In a 1988 interview wherein he spoke about Die Hard, Rickman shared that Willis, who had a bit more experience working on movies at the time of filming, helped him feel more at ease on set. The late British actor explained Willis exuded confidence, kindness, and professionalism while interacting with the film's cast and crew throughout the production of Die Hard.

"He was great. Because he knows exactly what he was doing," said Rickman, who died in 2016 at the age of 69. "And you know, if you got somebody who you can just see as just confident on the set, and also, off, when the cameras aren't rolling, just watching somebody who handles that situation as well as he does, handles his relationship with the crew, and is very professional about being ready and knowing what he has to do. And not wasting anyone's time."

The top pick, Smyth, is run by John Shields and Karen Urie Shields, a husband-and-wife team who approach cooking with genuine simplicity. After Smyth, the list reveals something about where the best food in America is actually happening right now. New Orleans has multiple restaurants in the top tier because the city treats food like culture. You see it happening in Philadelphia, in San Francisco, in Los Angeles—cities where restaurants aren't coasting on reputations they built years ago but are actively building something new, constantly evolving, genuinely pushing forward what a restaurant can be.

What the Rankings Actually Reveal

Unsurprisingly, New York still leads with 10 restaurants in the top 50. But cities like Washington D.C., New Orleans, Philadelphia, and Atlanta are all gaining multiple wins this year.  The list includes 36 U.S. restaurants total, and 18 of them are appearing for the first time. The remaining top 20 winners are based in Canada. 

In terms of special awards, Emeril Lagasse received the "Icon Award" for helping to shape American cuisine and bringing Creole and Cajun flavors to a global audience. Atelier Crenn in San Francisco won for sustainability, and Wildweed in Cincinnati earned the "One to Watch" award—meaning that the restaurant is on people's radar as the next big thing. Mashama Bailey of The Grey in Savannah received "North America's Best Female Chef Award." Albi in Washington D.C., won the "Biggest Mover" having climbed 28 spots from last year's ranking to land at No. 6. Eunji Lee of Lysée in New York City won "North America's Best Pastry Chef Award." And Restaurant Pearl Morissette also won the "Art of Hospitality Award."

After over five decades in music, The Commodores are heading out on tour again. On Friday, May 29, the '70s funk, soul, and R&B band—known for such timeless hits as "Three Times a Lady," "Brick House," "Easy," and more—announced eight new show dates across the U.S. and U.K.

The group—now comprising William King, Cody Orange, Colin Orange, and Brent Carter—took to Instagram to share the news, posting a concert graphic listing the dates and cities. "Catch The Commodores live in concert this summer and fall! Come and groove to your favorite classics like 'Easy,' 'Brick House,' 'Nightshift,' and much more. Visit our website (in bio) for tickets!" the update was captioned.

Kicking off on June 5 in Waterloo, Iowa, they're slated to hit Rancho Mirage, Calif., on July 3 and Camden, N. J., on July 4, followed by three concerts in August: West Allis, Wis., on the 11th, Syracuse, N. Y., on the 26th, and Los Angeles, Calif., on the 30th. As summer ends, The Commodores will play at Soultown Fest in the U.K. on Sept. 5 and set sail on the 2026 Soul Train Cruise from Nov. 7 to 14.

The announcement comes on the heels of a separate notice sent out by the group, where they cancelled a scheduled appearance at the Great American State Fair due to an apparent conflict regarding political views. "Our music has always been our voice and we choose not to publicly affiliate with any single political party. We support the betterment of all Americans," the May 28 post read.

The Commodores' Rise to the Top

The band was originally formed in 1968 at Alabama HBCU, Tuskegee University. Once led by Lionel Richie, who departed the group to pursue his solo career, they have charted 32 songs on the Billboard Hot 100, with the massive No. 1 hit "Shining Star" in 1975. Their longest-charting single, however (with 24 total weeks), was 1981's "Let's Groove," though it peaked at No. 3, according to Billboard.

Lifeguard J.D. Darius, played by Michael Bergin, was introduced as a rookie on Baywatch and became a lead. Bergin, 57, appeared in a couple more TV movies afterward before leaving acting. He addressed his career change, and years later he's back for the Baywatch reboot.

My real estate team is growing, and it is really awesome to work side by side with my wife, Joy, whom I love."

Bergin revealed that his daughter, Alana, in real life, has followed his footsteps. He used to be a Calvin Klein model, and he posts pictures from her modeling photo shoots on Instagram.

Baywatch held a casting call for the new show, so there will be new faces along with the alums. It's unknown when the series will premiere.

Long before she was an Oscar winner, Hathaway was—by her own admission—an unapologetic "dork." While attending the star-studded 2002 premiere of Chicago, Hathaway’s friend, talk-show host Caroline Rhea, offered to introduce her to a fellow guest, but left out one key detail: It was George Clooney.

“I turn and I'm like, ‘Hello George Clooney!’” Hathaway recalled, laughing at her own lack of cool. “Caroline goes, ‘Annie is a young up-and-coming actress’ and George Clooney says, ‘I actually do know you! And wow, you're doing so well for yourself. Congratulations!’”

Starstruck and scrambling, Hathaway blurted out a response she immediately regretted:

“I go, ‘Yeah, I've seen you, too, but for much longer...’ Then I was like, ‘Oh dear god, earth, open up and swallow me, pretty please!!’”

The interaction grew more painfully comedic when Clooney asked if she had seen "Renee" at the event yet. Hathaway eagerly asked if he meant Renee Taylor, the actress who played the iconic mother on The Nanny. Clooney gently corrected her: “No, no. Zellweger!” [the star of Chicago] before making a polite exit.

“He didn't know the fact that I wanted to have a big, sexy, romantic adult affair with him,” Hathaway joked. “And I am not going to now!”

Two Decades of Hollywood Near-Misses

That hilariously awkward interaction set off a bizarre trend of cosmic "what-ifs." Despite running in the A-list scene for over twenty years, Hathaway and Clooney have never actually been co-stars. The unreleased 2004 transcript also highlights how protective Hathaway was of her own identity. Because GarryMarshall directed both Pretty Woman and The Princess Diaries, Hollywood was quick to crown Hathaway the “next Julia Roberts.”

“It is the ultimate compliment," she stated firmly. "But it freaks me out a bit. I'm a completely different person. It's okay if I remind you of someone, but I'm not following in any footsteps.”

That fierce independence carried over into her early-twenties dating life, where she implemented a strict "Five-Minute Rule."

“When I’m on a date with someone, the second I know that I'm ‘changing’ to be the girl they like the most, I have to stop,” Hathaway revealed. “I'll get quiet for five minutes. They'll ask, ‘What's the matter?’ and I'll say, ‘Let's start over, I'm sorry, this is me now.’ Some guys look at me oddly. Some guys are like, ‘Thank you, I was wondering.’”

Two decades later, these lost quotes prove that the version of Anne Hathaway dominating Hollywood today—confident, authentic, and utterly unmatched—was already there at 21, just waiting for the world to catch up.

Dog Day Afternoon, starring Marvel’s Jon Bernthal as Sonny Amato and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Sal DeSilva, opened on March 30 at Broadway’s August Wilson Theatre. Set in the early ‘70s and based on the movie of the same name, Bernthal brings a “swagger” to the stage every night.

Brenda Abbandandolo, the show’s costume designer, is nominated in the 79th annual Tony Awards for Best Costume Design of a Play with Dog Day Afternoon. The Tony nominee revealed in an exclusive interview with Parade that she wanted both Bernthal and Moss-Bachrach to make their characters their own.

“I think that Jon Bernthal’s process was really organic,” Abbandandolo said. “I knew I didn't want to copy the movie. I wanted Jon and Ebon to make this their own.”

Abbandandolo said that one of the ways Bernthal made his character his own was by leaning into the August heat that the show is built around. While Abbandandolo wanted him to wear a jacket to complete his costume, Bernthal made it clear that his character didn’t need it.

“I think it was [at] invited dress, I gave him a jacket, and he didn't go out with it, but it totally worked,” Abbandandolo said. “I gave him this vintage dress shirt; it was a little too tight in the back, but it still looked good. It did something for him. It curved his back a little bit, and it gave him this swagger, and I just knew instantly when he walked on stage that [this] was the right piece.”

Abbandandolo said that they kept trying costumes up until the invited dress, which is “something [they] had never done before.”

“He had this ringer tee we had already shot the photos in it, and I was like, ’Let’s do this v-neck. Let’s simplify it, let's clean it up,’” Abbandandolo said. “And it just put all the focus on him instead of [the] clothes.”

Alongside Bernthal is Moss-Bachrach, whose character wears what Abbandandolo said is called an “action suit.”

“He was so excited,” Abbandandolo said. “He [was] like, ‘This is our action suit!’ It was just perfect.”

Dog Day Afternoon marks the Broadway debut for both actors, who are also co-stars on the hit TV series, The Bear. They are also expected to return to Marvel films this year. Bernthal will be reprising his role as Frank Castle (Punisher) in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, while Moss-Bachrach will return as Ben Grimm (The Thing) in Avengers: Doomsday, set to release in December.

Millions of Americans may face higher health insurance costs in 2026 following changes to the Affordable Care Act included in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBA), which was signed into law on July 4, 2025. The bill did not include an extension of the enhanced Premium Tax Credits (PTCs), which would have allowed them to expire at the end of 2025, making it harder for many marketplace enrollees to afford health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.

Now that some of those subsidies have expired and the cost of living has increased, many households are facing difficult financial choices: paying for everyday essentials like gas and food or funding their family's health insurance. For many households facing rising grocery, housing, and fuel costs, health insurance coverage may become harder to afford. Keep reading to find out why it's happening and what options may still be available if you’re struggling to afford coverage.

Why Are ACA Premiums Going Up in 2026

Under the 2025 healthcare policy changes backed by Republicans, several Affordable Care Act provisions were scaled back, according to a May 2026 analysis from KFF and other health policy experts. The changes included new work requirements for some Medicaid expansion recipients, while the enhanced ACA subsidies that lowered marketplace costs expired at the end of 2025. These changes are most likely to affect ACA marketplace enrollees, Medicaid recipients, and those near the subsidy income thresholds.

While some things have already begun—like the expiration of the enhanced Premium Tax Credits (PTCs), which expired on Dec. 31, 2025—some have yet to happen, like:

• Eligibility restrictions for certain immigrant groups beginning Oct. 1, 2026, according to the National Immigration Law Center
• More frequent Medicaid eligibility checks beginning Dec. 31, 2026

These changes could mean millions of people lose coverage, according to estimates from the health policy research organization KFF, with millions more expected to drop their coverage in the coming years. A May 19, 2026, report from KFF estimates ACA marketplace enrollment could decline by nearly 5 million people in 2026, a more than 21 percent drop from the prior year.

And while they say the losses from Medicaid expansion work requirements are harder to predict, since implementation timelines are still being determined, KFF predictions say that Medicaid enrollment is expected to drop by 7.5 million over the next few years.

What Happens if You Can’t Afford Health Insurance

According to Reuters, total premium costs for those enrolled in subsidized plans are expected to average $1,904 in 2026, up from $888 in 2025. If you're among those who can't really afford to pay the full price of a health insurance policy through the marketplace, you have a few options. First, look at the plans available on your state's marketplace to see if there are more affordable options. While these are typically still part of the ACA, you may find an agreeable option there.

There are different tiers of plans, and if you are relatively healthy, you may be able to sign up for an emergency plan that acts as "catastrophic" coverage in the event you are injured or get sick and need hospitalization. Additionally, short-term health plans can be available, according to Cigna, which can help you obtain temporary coverage while you are between health plans or between enrollment periods. Just note that these types of plans can have different coverage limits, so it's important to read the "exclusions and limitations" on the plan before signing up for one to make sure it will meet your needs.

If that doesn't work, you may want to shop for a policy off the marketplace by researching different insurance companies directly. These insurers may have policies that differ from those they present on their websites, and they may offer options that better suit your financial situation.

Lastly, you can apply for financial aid through your state or the federal government. While there have been many cuts to aid programs over the years, some remain in place for those whose income falls below the poverty line. Consider researching the options available to you in your state to see if you qualify. For example, in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, your income would have to fall within 133 percent of the federal poverty level (FPL), according to Medicaid.gov.

Healthcare experts generally recommend maintaining some form of coverage whenever possible, since unexpected medical emergencies can quickly become financially overwhelming.

And so many of the greats to grace those podiums started by simply watching the show as it aired on weekdays, as millions have done for over half a century.

Chris D'Angelo ended the week on a high note, winning his eighth consecutive game, taking home $20,000, and pushing his running total to $194,201.

 He has already qualified for the 2026 Tournament of Champions after his fifth game win.

What was Final Jeopardy today?

Final Jeopardy today was in the category "EXERCISE."

The clue: "A WWI internee created this form of exercise, adapting hospital beds as makeshift equipment to rehab injured soldiers."

The answer: "What is Pilates?"

D’Angelo found all three Daily Doubles for the second straight game, entering FJ with a runaway lead of $16,200, compared to Driggs $4,400 and Patrick’s $5,800.

Only two contestants got FJ correct, one of which was D’Angelo, who made a relaxed wager of $3,800, adding a total of $20,000 to the prize pot for the day and ending the week with his eight consectuvie win. 

Driggs also answered correctly, after nearly striking out, crossing out her initial answer of “calisthenics,” and with a wager of $2,000, ended in second place with $6,400. Patrick was the only one who got it wrong, answering “isometrics,” down $3,005 due to his wager for a third-place total of $2,795.

D'Angelo will be back next week on Monday for his ninth attempt at victory.

Depending on your age and what films interest you, it's very likely that Luke Evans' name or face is familiar. Now, the 47-year-old has scored a career first after nearly two decades in the entertainment industry.

The actor has starred in every genre, ranging from fantasy, with his role as Bard in The Hobbit trilogy, to action, as Shaw in the Fast & Furious franchise, and even in Disney films, playing the dastardly Gaston in the live-action Beauty and the Beast. However, it's the theater where the 47-year-old actor began, and where he is now getting recognized.

On May 29, Evans received a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical for his role as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

He made his Broadway debut in the show's revival on April 23, 2026, at Studio 54.

The Legacy of 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show'

The Rocky Horror Picture Show was created by Richard O'Brien, who also played Riff Raff in the London production and 1975 film. Dr. Frank-N-Furter was originally played by Tim Curry, who also starred in the film version.

According to the BBC, the theater production has been seen by 30 million people, and "performed in 20 different languages." Over the years, it's gained cult status as more people are introduced to it at midnight showings. Fans often come to watch the film dressed as characters and participate in callbacks, singing the songs and mimicking scenes.

A Professional Revelation for Evans

Evans has gotten a lot of praise for his performance and has expressed how proud he is of the whole production.

"Every minute of this experience, from the first day of rehearsals, has been a sort of revelation for me," he told GMA. "It's a departure from the kind of roles that I've played for my whole career. And part of that challenge was what drew me to it in the first place."

Along with Evans' nomination, The Rocky Horror Picture Show received nine Tony Award nominations, including Best Revival of a Musical, Best Scenic Design of a Musical, Best Costume Design of a Musical, Best Lighting Design of a Musical, Best Sound Design of a Musical, and Best Choreography. Rachel Dratch received a nod for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical, and Stephanie Hsu was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical.
