2001 Hit Action Film With Two Oscar Awards Is Suddenly Climbing the Charts 25 Years Later

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 9:00am

Twenty-five years since Black Hawk Down had its theatrical debut, the war drama film is making an unexpected comeback.

Directed by Ridley Scott, the 2001 film, written by Ken Nolan and Mark Bowden, was based on a true story centered on a mission in 1993 involving the U.S. Army Rangers and Delta Force operators targeting lieutenants loyal to warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid during the conflict that later became known as the Battle of Mogadishu.

Apart from the cutting-edge filmmaking and notable storyline, the movie also featured a massive ensemble cast of rising stars and A-listers.

Headlined by Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor and Eric Bana, along with Tom Sizemore, William Fichtner, Sam Shepard and Jason Isaacs, the lead stars gave justice and depth to their characters.

After over two decades, the movie found an unexpected resurgence thanks to streaming sites like Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.

Apart from its comeback, Black Hawk Down is also being viewed in a new light in today’s cinematic landscape.

Quentin Tarantino, the renowned filmmaker, unveiled a list of his favorite movies of all time, with the Ridley Scott-directed war epic making it to his top picks.

“I liked it when I first saw it, but I actually think it was so intense that it stopped working for me, and I didn’t carry it with me the way that I should’ve,” he mentioned in an interview on The Bret Easton Ellis podcast as cited by Variety.

According to the director, who saw the film “a couple of times,” he described it as a “masterwork,” noting that Quentin Tarantino believes that Black Hawk Down is one of the movies that truly captured the same kind of intense experience created by Francis Ford Coppola in Apocalypse Now.

“It keeps up the intensity for 2 hours 45 minutes, or whatever it is, and I watched it again recently,” he shared, adding, “My heart was going through the entire runtime of the movie; it had me and never let me go, and I hadn’t seen it in a while. The feat of direction is beyond extraordinary.”

True enough, at the time of the movie’s big screen debut, Black Hawk Down received positive feedback from viewers and won two Academy Awards, including Best Film Editing and Best Sound.

Adding to its achievements were three BAFTA nominations for Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Sound.

'That Which Feeds Us' Isn't a Romance but a Gothic Horror with Lessons, and Keala Kendall Explains Why (Exclusive)

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 9:00am

When we think of Hawai’i, we think of paradise. We think of the luxurious resorts, the beautiful beaches, and the surfing. That Which Feeds Us by Keala Kendall challenges that view. It’s a gothic thriller that has a little bit of a love story in there, but don’t mistake it for a romance, and that’s by design.

That Which Feeds Us, which is the May pick for Sunnie Reads, is a twist on The White Lotus, bringing more horror vibes to offer a social commentary. If you love Jordan Peele’s work, then you’ll adore this. If you loved Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia then this is sure to become your next read.

I sat down with Kendall, a Native Hawaiian who now lives in Los Angeles, to chat about her novel. We took a look inside the story, focusing on the real history, the use of horror to tell the social commentary, and the inspiration for Lehua and her journey.

Of course, the horror theme, while set on one of the islands of Hawai’i came up to start, as we discussed the feeling of Peele meets The White Lotus, and that was something mentioned during the auctioning of the book, and Kendall couldn’t have been happier to hear that. She shared that it “felt like my soul left my body.”

“Put that on my tombstone,” she chuckled, “I’ve peaked!”

It turns out that she is a huge fan of Peele and the use of social commentary in horror in general, which we’ve seen through the likes of Get Out and Nope. It turns out that she expected that to be something The White Lotus would have touched on more.

“This isn’t to say it wasn’t a great show, but I definitely thought there would be more of a comeuppance for the main characters,” she explained to me, “Instead, we see it happen to the workers, and I guess that reflects reality, but I kept thinking about it.”

There was something about the opening that seized in her mind about how unsettling it was, and she hoped that the story would have continued with that.

This was just the start for her, as she worked on her story about Hawai’i, which meant a lot of research and connection with her former home, as she is part of the “diaspora in Los Angeles.”

“I was homesick,” she admitted, “Which is a big theme of the Gothic.”

For Kendall, it was about telling the story of a girl going back to her homeland. At first, this is to find her sister, but she ends up discovering a lot more about herself, the land, and the history.

Random House BFYR

That led to plenty of research that she then had to make into an entertaining story. She had to break it down in a way that people who have never been to Hawai’i will be able to picture the place and understand the weight of that history. How do you explain plantation culture and how Hawai’i looks to someone?

It’s hard to find a balance between the social commentary and the entertainment at times, but it was important for Kendall to work in the pieces of research that she found, as she explained, “When I found out how many luxury high end resorts in Hawai’i sit on former plantations, there was something inherently haunting about that idea of luxury built on worker exploitation that I really wanted to explore.”

Fortunately, she had a friend to help, who had never been to Hawai’i, and could be that first reader to figure out if something was missing.

“I asked one of my friends who has never been to Hawai’i to be one of my first readers, and it was so great to have their perspective. If something didn’t make sense to them, I needed to find another way to tell the story.”

Speaking of history, it was important to cover a tale that was genuine to Hawaiian history, and that’s not easy when history is told by the victor! For the longest time, most of the resources about the takeover of Hawai’i had been written by the victor, and “it colored a lot of the historical interpretation of the events.”

With the movement to bring back the language, which was once banned, it opened the ability to explore the original documents and newspapers about the resistance that had happened at the time. It’s not just Hawai’i that has faced a language ban, as other Native American and Indigenous languages around the world have been affected by colonization.

“It’s so important to bring this history in, though. It really does reverberate through the present because we have the flooding in Hawai’i, the recent rainstorms, the Wahiawā Dams owned by the Dole Plantations, and the Lahaina fires. The plantations have shaped these islands and changed them irrevocably.”

There is an author’s note about the Lahaina fires, as they are an important part of real history that didn’t quite make the book. There was a heartfelt reason for that, which Kendall explains once you get to the end of the book.

With all this history and important information, there still had to be a balance, and Lehua is the vehicle to help do that. Kendall admitted that while she wanted to add in everything about the plantations and the myths that she could, she was also “aware that this book is for entertainment.

I’m always the first reader, so to keep the element of entertainment, I wanted to make sure the story was accessible, more than anything.”

Ultimately, by being accessible, she helps to keep the mind on the full tale. With enjoyment comes wanting to learn more and experience more, and Kendall shared that it would allow “the work to continue on.”

While That Which Feeds Us is set in Hawai’i and focuses on the diaspora of Native Hawaiian people, it is also relatable to many others. Hawai’i’s history closely resembles Cuba’s, but Kendall had someone from Paraguay share that they “remembered when they went home and how they felt.”

While not under the same circumstances or with the same experience of culture, I do relate as a Canadian-born, British-raised nomad now living back in Canada, struggling to figure out which place is home and the feelings of particular locations.

While Lehua’s searching for her sister and learning more about plantation culture and how all these luxury resorts have been built on top of all that, there is the hope of romance. However, that’s not the way the story plays out — and trying to avoid spoilers — Kendall was told by a friend to write an alternate universe coda for the story.

She didn’t want to participate in a particular trope that has become terrible for representation — and once you get to the end of the novel, you’ll understand the trope — but this story wasn’t a romance at heart, and Kendall felt that “in my writing, it was necessary. This is about the world they’re in.”

“When we talk about what’s stolen from Hawai’i, I brought up moe aikāne,” Kendall explained, sharing that it was common in pre-colonized Hawai’i. In fact, the moe aikāne were particularly cherished, with Kendall explaining, “Ki’iaka, who is a famous goddess in Hawaiian myth and history, has a Moe Aikane. King Kamehameha is said to have a moe aikāne.”

That’s not the only thing taken, as Kendall continued, “When I think about what was stolen from Lake Hua when she’s looking at that island, and they have a home and roots and history, she does not have that sense of place herself. So, what else have they taken?”

In the end, a future is taken, and it’s something that many people can resonate with. Remember, going into That Which Feeds Us, we knew it was a Gothic horror, and while we can want it to be something else, the horror is at the heart of it, and that can mean heartbreak.

This is Lehua’s story at the heart of it all, and Kendall shared her unique way of finding her voice to help resonate with the feeling of anger and pain.

“When finding Lehua’s voice, I would read one-star reviews about Hawai’i, because she’s mean! She’s on the cusp of adulthood, and what would have helped is having a place to lay her anchor down to rest. There are a lot of people who don’t have that.”

Again, it may be a story set on a Hawaiian island, but there are topics that can resonate with anyone. The feeling of insecurity is “universal,” whether it’s food insecurity, financial insecurity, and even home insecurity. However, there is a feeling that will resonate with one group of people more than others, and it’s something personal to Kendall herself.

“I was in the foster program, which is what inspired me to write about Lehua's experience, because I learned that Native Hawaiians are disproportionately in the foster system.”

When ending the interview, I had to ask about what Kendall wanted to achieve with the novel. Sure, there’s the wish for an entertaining read or a bestseller, but it’s more for That Which Feeds Us due to the topics brought up.

“The supernatural elements serve as metaphors for the very real suffering and injustices Native Hawaiians have experienced or endured. I hope readers will recognize that pervasive view of Hawai’i. This view of Hawai’i as paradise is a carefully constructed myth that has very real human costs that demand acknowledgement, even if it is painful.”

In the end, Kendall just wants to “broaden their view to wonder why they’re being told this.”

The Man Behind Darth Maul Just Addressed the 'Shadow Lord' Finale Twist

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 8:40am

SPOILER WARNING!
This article discusses details of Maul: Shadow Lord.

When Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord wrapped its first season on Disney+ last week, it left fans with something they may have been waiting for since 1999: Darth Maul and Darth Vader, face to face, sabers lit. The duel did not disappoint. What it also did was raise questions, and now Sam Witwer is answering them.

Witwer has voiced Maul across The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and Solo: A Star Wars Story, and he has spent years shaping who this character is in ways audiences never quite saw. In a new interview with Yahoo Entertainment, he addressed the sith in the room: episode 8 of Shadow Lord doesn't fit exactly where established Star Wars canon would suggest it should. Witwer confirmed the inconsistency was entirely intentional, working in close collaboration with supervising director Brad Rau and executive producer Dave Filoni. 'The audience can take from that what they will,' Witwer said, declining to spell out what the creative team had in mind.

That same week, GeekTyrant published a companion interview in which Witwer explained one of the series' more surprising character choices: this version of Maul is consumed by his feelings about Palpatine rather than his long-standing obsession with Obi-Wan Kenobi. For years, Star Wars fans associated Maul's story with his desire for revenge against the Jedi who cut him in half. Shadow Lord reframes that, presenting a Maul who helped build the Empire and is now confronting what it actually looks like. 'Maul comes from a time of swords and sorcery and magic and knights,' Witwer told the outlet, 'and now all of that color is being sucked out of the universe by this mechanized empire.'

Related: This Star Wars Toy Just Sold for $1.34 Million

ComicBook.com followed up with a piece on the season finale's centerpiece, the Vader-Maul duel. Witwer spoke at length about why Vader won so decisively. It was not simply a matter of raw power. The explanation involves the philosophical gap between what Maul represents and what Vader has become under Palpatine's design. For longtime fans, it recontextualizes both characters.

The series premiered April 6 on Disney+ and released two episodes per week through May 4. Collider reported the first season pulled in 4.1 million views on the platform, calling it a streaming hit that Disney+ needed. A second season is already in development, according to Lucasfilm, with Filoni having confirmed the continuation shortly before the premiere.

After decades of Maul appearing at the margins of the Star Wars saga, Shadow Lord gave him the center of the story. Based on the fan response, they were right to finally do it.

Hantavirus Breaking Update: Cruise Ship Begins Evacuation Process as Symptom-Free Guests Prepare to Return Home

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 8:39am

The MV Hondius has arrived in the Canary Islands and the evacuation process for 150 passengers and crew has begun.

People who have been onboard the ship are being taken off in groups in a process that's being overseen by global health officials, according to Reuters. After a medical evaluation, the passengers and crew members will be flown to their respective home countries on government planes and will have no contact with the general public.

NBC News reports that the first groups of passengers were seen exiting the ship "wearing face masks and head-to-toe personal protective equipment." They boarded small boats that would take them to shore where they would then be transported to a medical tent for evaluation.

So far, there has been a total of eight people who have fallen ill and six confirmed cases of Hantavirus linked to passengers on the ship. Three of those people have died. "Four patients remain hospitalized in South Africa, the Netherlands and Switzerland," per Reuters.

"No symptomatic individuals are present on board," Oceanwide Expeditions, who owns the MV Hondius, said in a statement posted to the company's website on May 9.

The evacuation process is expected to be completed on Monday, May 11. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended a 42-day quarantine for all persons who traveled on the vessel.

The Hantavirus is primarily carried by rodents. Infected humans can experience severe, potentially fatal respiratory or renal illnesses. Early signs of the virus include flu-like symptoms (fever, fatigue, and muscle aches). According to the CDC, the Hantavirus is spread mainly by rodents, though there is a human-to-human strain called the Andes virus.

Experts say that the threat of a widespread Hantavirus outbreak is "low."

4 Birth Dates Most Likely to Be Foodies

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 8:32am

For foodies, food is more than just nourishment; it's an experience. Around the globe, people take pride in their favorite dishes and cultural specialties, embracing the way these culinary delights bring the world closer together. Joy, connection, adventure, and reward all play a role in the experience of food. Whether you prefer savory or sweet dishes, quick bites or three-course meals, your passion for edibles is celebrated here. According to numerologists, being a foodie isn’t merely a personality quirk; it can also be reflected in your numerology. Four specific birth dates are particularly associated with those most likely to be foodies.

Which Birth Dates Are Most Likely Foodies?

Check for your birth date. Disregard birth months.

Born on the 3rd — The Joyful Indulger

People born on the 3rdare ruled by Jupiter, the planet of joy, expansion, and abundance. Their abundant attitude means they know how to enjoy life and its finer things. You savor your meals with full joy, leaving behind unnecessary guilt. Open to trying anything once, you love to experience cultural culinary adventures, from local small businesses to exotic flavors you've never encountered. You’re always eager to catch up over good food and drinks, and you inspire others to share in the excitement of trying multiple appetizers on the menu with you. Dining and eating out feel celebratory and fun in your company, like the life of the party you always are!

RELATE?: 4 Birth Dates Who Are Rays of Sunshine

Born on the 14th — The Adventurous Eater

Ruled by Mercury, the planet of curiosity and swift movement, you're born to explore. Those born on the 14th are likely to keep a mental note of all the fun restaurants you want to try—the more interactive and immersive, the better. For you, eating is not just about sustenance; it's an experience that requires an open mind. You're willing to try the "weird" items on the menu, research options in depth weeks before a trip, and build an informed awareness of it. Your "always onto the next thing" youthful personality shines through in your foodie habits as well, energetic and excited to expand your horizons (and taste buds).

NEXT: The 4 Birth Months With Poetic Minds

Born on the 24th — The Sensory Connoisseur

Those born on the 24th are ruled by Venus, the planet of pleasure, luxury, and the senses. Naturally, you're a foodie at heart. For you, taste is essential, but you also appreciate the art of aesthetic presentation, style, and the background stories behind the dishes. Eating with others has been a social experience throughout history, and you love how enjoying food can bring people together. You pay attention to plating and wine pairings, and you enjoy sharing delicious bites as a love language. You remember your loved ones' favorite dishes and may even love cooking for them when they visit (or buying it already prepared—no judgment here). You're romantic and soulful, and the sensory experience of food only highlights your open-hearted nature.

Born on the 26th — The Discerning Taste Maker

Saturn, the planet of mature discipline, rules those born on the 26th. Individuals with this influence tend to have high standards, and their approach to food reflects that seriousness. They can taste every minute detail others may overlook, recognizing what's lacking, what's overdone, and what tastes just right. While some may view them as picky eaters, they are unapologetic about it. They know what they like and remain loyal to it! Although they are open-minded and willing to explore new flavors, they also have go-to orders at their favorite restaurants. Ultimately, for them, it's about quality over quantity when it comes to enjoying good food, and they are mindful of what they endorse as a great dish. They often possess good taste (sometimes even expensive), and they are well aware of it.

1986 ‘The Twilight Zone’ Episode Ranked the No. 1 Script Written by George R.R. Martin

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 8:31am

George R. R. Martin, the iconic writer ofGame of Thrones, worked on other television shows throughout his career. During the revival of The Twilight Zone in the ‘80s, he wrote multiple episodes across the first two seasons, and TV Line recently ranked them. They determined that the best script he wrote, which aired in 1986, was called “The Road Less Travelled.”

This episode was directed by Wes Craven. It was about a married father who fled to Canada to escape the Vietnam war draft. When he discovered another man in his house, in a wheelchair, he realized it was an alternate version of himself who went to war.

According to Syfy, Martin has revealed that "no film school in the world” could have taught him as much as he learned while working on the series. He stated, "None of it would have been possible, if not for the things I learned on Twilight Zone as a Staff Writer and Story Editor."

When speaking about how the opportunity came about in the first place, the writer explained, "Much as I enjoyed television, I never dreamt of writing for it until 1985, when CBS decided to launch a new version of The Twilight Zone, and executive producer Phil DeGuere invited me to write an episode for them. A freelance script; that was how you began back then. I decided to give it a shot
and Phil and his team liked what I did. So much so that within days of delivery, I got an offer to come on staff. Before I quite knew what had happened, I was on my way to L.A. with a six-week deal as a Staff Writer, at the Guild minimum salary."

He continued, "The moment I arrived, Phil threw me into the deep end. I wrote five scripts during my season and a half on TZ, and I was deeply involved in every aspect of every one of them. I did not just write my script, turn it in, and go away. I sat in on the casting sessions. I worked with the directors. I was present at the table reads... In TV I was so green that I would have been invisible against a green screen. And that, in my opinion, is the most important of the things that the Guild is fighting for. The right to have that kind of career path. To enable new writers, young writers, and yes, prose writers, to climb the same ladder."

Martin, who is now 77, is currently working as a writer and producer on the HBO show, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

This two-piece outfit is an elevated take on the average loungewear set. The top boasts a mock neckline, giving it a polished and refined look. It’s balanced out by the oversized silhouette that adds a relaxed feel, while also preventing the fabric from clinging to your skin. The mock neck transitions into cap sleeves that flare out and elegantly drape down.

The matching bottoms feature an airy, wide-leg design. They’re fixed with an elastic waistband that’ll stretch along with your movements instead of digging into your stomach. The waistband has an adjustable drawstring so you can tailor the fit to your preference. You can either cinch it for a sleek look or wear it untied for a more comfortable fit. For convenience, the pants have side pockets where you can store your essentials, allowing you to roam around hands-free.

Made of 60% polyester and 35% polyester, this loungewear set is soft to the touch and very comfortable to wear, according to shoppers. While it provides ample coverage, reviewers noted that the material is lightweight and breathable, which will help keep you from overheating in warm weather. The other 5% of the material is made of spandex, which gives it that stretch so you can move around with ease.

This ‘Tacky' Decor Trend is Here to Stay—Here's How to Embrace the Aesthetic

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 8:15am

Throwing around the word “tacky” isn’t exactly par for the interior design course. Most push against the concept, leaning into words like “refined,” “elevated” and “curated.” But, perhaps in response to mass manufacturing and an “overly polished” world of AI, people are craving weird, funky and unapologetically true-to-self home decor.

“The elements being labeled tacky right now—lacquer, brass, velvet, ornate wallpapers, animal print—aren't actually tacky at all,” argues interior designer Page Finlay. “They're materials and motifs with deep design history that got pushed out by a decade of minimalist neutrality. What we're really seeing is a course correction. Our nervous systems are catching up to the fact that beige boxes don't feel like home.”

She describes it as a return to sensory richness as people realize stripped-back spaces don’t evoke that cozy, nourishing feeling we often crave in our private retreats. Our bodies read warmth, texture and pattern as cues of safety and belonging in a way that polished minimalism cannot replicate.

Whether you’re a devout minimalist intrigued by this idea, or you’re a maximalist in need of tacky-embracing tips, follow this interior designer advice to curate a sensory-rich home.

1. Choose a Bold Anchor Piece

To ease into this aesthetic, opt for a single bold piece and let the rest of the room build around it. It could be a velvet headboard, a leopard ottoman or a single lacquered console. In this foyer, an ornate gold mirror dominates the space.

“Some may find this level of opulence tacky; it is gilded with gold, intricately detailed, and oversized,” says Maggie Griesbeck of MNG Design. “For my clients, it was a piece they had had in their collection for 25 years, and it wasn't going anywhere. I loved it and chose to embrace it.”

For balance and continuity, Griesbeck selected light fixtures with gold detailing and installed brass stair rods on the stair runner to weave the gold tones together. The neutral wallpaper provides a pretty, neutral backdrop and lets the gold elements shine.

2. Treat Your Ceilings as a Fifth Wall  View this post on Instagram

For too long and in too many homes, ceilings have been an afterthought (if thought of at all). For that curated tacky feel, giving your ceiling “main character energy” treatment is the way.

“Lacquering or wallpapering a ceiling is the highest-impact, lowest-risk way to embrace this trend, and something that I think when applied with intention, is here to stay,” Finlay says. “It transforms a room without committing every vertical surface to drama, and it gives the eye a single moment of richness.”

Pro tip: Powder rooms and dining rooms are the easiest places to start.

3. Curate and Showcase Original Pieces  View this post on Instagram

That mass-produced abstract painting or matchy-match couch and chairs is a shortcut to a space that feels, as Finley said above, “hollow.” Originality and one-of-a-kind pieces are what make a home feel lived in, texturally lavish and anything but minimalist.

Pick up the weird little knick knack at the thrift market that makes your heart happy, showcase your collection of rocks or teacups or travel treasures, and source real artwork. The goal is to bring items into your home that are intriguing, capture imagination and double as conversation pieces.

4. Mix and Match

Mark Mediana / Alice Crumeyrolle

The sense of sensory richness comes from an infusion of color and texture. To maximalize this, Griesbeck says to mix and match your finishes, prints, colors and textures. “No room needs to be covered only in gold accessories,” she says. “A mix and match is always desirable.”

This looks different for everyone based on their aesthetic preferences and style. For you, maybe it’s a funky cheetah print throw tossed over a pink velvet couch. For another, perhaps it’s a grasscloth wallpaper with ornate seashell art hung on the walls.

The Lush Jamaican Hideaway Where James Bond Was Born Celebrates 80 Years of Intrigue

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 8:10am

For fans of high-stakes adventure and "quiet luxury" hideaways, there is no address more storied than GoldenEye. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Jamaican estate that served as the creative womb for the world’s most famous spy.

In 1946, Ian Fleming—then a commander in British Naval Intelligence—discovered a 15-acre tropical plot in the quiet port town of Oracabessa Bay. He sketched his dream villa on a desk blotter, dubbed it GoldenEye after a World War II intelligence operation, and spent the next two decades returning every winter to write all 14 of his bestselling James Bond novels.

Today, the property remains a stronghold where the jungle meets the sea, simultaneously private and cinematic. To celebrate eight decades of history, GoldenEye is launching a series of experiences that lean into the author's personal rituals and the property's vibrant natural heritage.

The heart of the celebration takes place at Sha’Been, the property's rooftop lounge. Every Friday night, guests can participate in a "Golden Hour" cocktail session featuring Fleming-era classics. While the Martini (shaken, not stirred) is the obvious headliner, the menu also highlights Blackwell Rum, owned by Chris Blackwell, the visionary founder of Island Records who eventually purchased the estate from the Fleming family. The mood is further set by live Niyabinghi music, a hypnotic blend of African drumming and gospel traditions that provides the authentic heartbeat of Jamaican culture.

Nostalgic travelers may know that 007's name wasn't plucked from thin air. Fleming was an avid birdwatcher and took the moniker from American ornithologist James Bond, author of Birds of the West Indies. In tribute to this legacy, the property is hosting biweekly nature tours to explore its most biodiverse pockets, led by experts like conservation ecologist Ann Sutton, widely known as Jamaica’s "bird whisperer."

For those seeking the ultimate 007 pilgrimage, the property has curated the "Ian Fleming’s GoldenEye at 80" package. This exclusive four-night stay offers a rare look behind the curtain of the author's daily life, including a guided snorkeling tour of Fleming Reef, the exact spot where the author swam every morning before his daily 2,000-word writing session. Guests will also enjoy a 60-minute Brown Sugar Scrub at the field spa and a tour of the original five-bedroom GoldenEye Villa (pending availability), where the desk where Casino Royale and Live and Let Die were penned still sits.

Starting from $3,794, the anniversary experience offers a sophisticated alternative to the crowded mega-resorts of the Caribbean. It is a chance for travelers to see that 80 years later, the spirit of creative sanctuary that Fleming first fell in love with is very much alive.

2014 Underrated Crime Drama Named the Greatest First Season of a Television Show of All Time

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 8:08am

True Detective is an anthology crime drama from HBO starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. The first season of the series, which is about a pair of police detectives in Louisiana who pursue a serial killer over the course of 17 years, was recently ranked at the top of TV Line's "Best First Seasons of TV Shows."

When speaking about the initial season, Michelle Monaghan, who plays the wife of Harrelson’s character, told Collider, “There are true cliffhangers with every episode. It was the kind of writing that was very existential, so I would read it, and then I would read it again. There are a lot of things that Rust [McConaughey's character] said that were very provocative and very thought-provoking, and that I really wanted to contemplate myself. I just thought, 'Gosh, I have not come across anything like that, ever.'”

Monaghan continued, "It was so interesting to see where these characters went. It spans 17 years, and what I found to be really fascinating is how people change, over the course of 17 years. And then, in the backdrop is this ongoing investigation, and how it changes them and how their relationship with each other changes, throughout that whole entire process. That’s what really intriguing.”

The first season of True Detective won five Emmy Awards and received four Golden Globe nominations. It also won TCA Awards and a BAFTA. The show went on to release a second, third, and fourth season—but they all follow completely different, self-contained stories with a different set of actors. The fifth season is currently in development.

When asked about reprising the role for a future season of the show, McConaughey told Variety, “We nailed that first season. But if it’s a script like that first one, with that fire and originality, I’d do it. And you talk about monologues. Well, Rust Cohle had a monologue. He talked about everything that was inside him, and he didn’t care if you were listening or not. There’s freedom in that.”

However, Harrelson disagreed. When asked about returning, he told Variety. “In fairness, never. No chance because it turned out great. I love that it turned out the way it did, and if anything, doing another season would, I think, tarnish that."

Other shows that made the list of “Best First Seasons of TV Shows” are Stranger Things, The Bear, and Homeland.

Who Is Kevin Hart's Wife? All About His Marriage to Eniko Hart

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 8:00am

Kevin Hart and his wife, Eniko Hart, have been through plenty of ups and downs throughout their relationship, but they’re currently going strong—and he’s repeatedly described her as the “backbone” of his life.

After meeting in 2009, the couple quietly dated for two years before going public with their romance once Kevin finalized his divorce from first wife, Torrei Hart. Kevin and Eniko tied the knot in 2016, two years after he proposed on her birthday, but their marriage was tested early on when Kevin was caught in a cheating scandal.

Kevin later said that weathering the storm wasn’t easy, but Eniko decided to stay with him—and held him “accountable” for his actions. “She came to an amazing conclusion of, 'I like the fact that we have a family, that we have a household, and I like the fact that we now got a job to do to get better,'" he recalled during a 2020 episode of the School of Greatness podcast. “It was her understanding that we don't let the outside world affect our inside, and I credit her for setting that tone.”

Keep reading for everything to know about Kevin Hart’s wife, Eniko Hart.

Who is Kevin Hart married to now?

Kevin Hart is married to Eniko Hart (nĂ©e Parrish), who began her career as a model. In 2013, she appeared on the BET series Rip the Runway, which was hosted by Kelly Rowland and highlighted collaborations between the worlds of music and fashion. She’s since become an ambassador for Fabletics, the lifestyle brand co-owned by Kate Hudson. Kevin and Eniko have teamed up for multiple his-and-hers capsule collections with the brand.

“She’s the backbone of our household,” Kevin said during a January 2024 interview on Today With Hoda & Jenna. “She definitely has shaped and molded me in ways I never knew that I could possibly [go], just with growth in the world of adulting.”

How did Kevin Hart meet his wife?

Kevin Hart met his wife, Eniko, in 2009 at a nightclub in Washington, D.C. In the 2019 Netflix docuseries Don’t F**k This Up, Eniko said that their connection was instant. “One thing led to another, and it just happened,” she recalled of the evening, during which Kevin ran to the DJ booth to serenade her. “We couldn’t resist each other. It was nonstop.”

At the time, Kevin was still married to his first wife, Torrei, but he made it clear in the same series that there was no overlap between the two relationships. “The biggest misconception is that Eniko was the homewrecker,” he explained. “This woman came in and destroyed this man’s family. Reality is, I was done with my first marriage. We were done. In separate homes.”

View this post on Instagram When did Kevin Hart and Eniko Hart get married?

Kevin and Eniko tied the knot on Aug. 13, 2016, after getting engaged two years prior. Their wedding took place in California, and both of Kevin’s kids from his first marriage were in attendance at the ceremony. Kevin’s eldest son, Hendrix, served as his dad’s best man.

One year into the marriage, Kevin claimed in an Instagram video that an unnamed person was trying to extort him with a sexually suggestive video. Kevin publicly apologized to Eniko, who was then pregnant with the couple’s son, Kenzo. Eniko said in Kevin’s Netflix series that she felt “publicly humiliated” by the scandal but ultimately decided to stick with her husband.

“I have to maintain a level head, I think that's the only thing that really got me through,” Eniko recalled. “I wasn't ready at the time to just give up on my family. I wanted Kenzo to be able to know his dad and grow up, so it was a lot. It was a lot for me, but we've been through it, we've gone through it, we passed it and he's a better man now because of it.”

Kevin, meanwhile, said in 2018 that the incident was “the most difficult test ever” for his and Eniko’s marriage. “I applaud my wife for just displaying a high level of strength that I can't even explain,” he told People. “I applaud her for being my backbone, my support system, and more importantly, taking my life to the next level.”

How old is Kevin Hart’s wife?

Born on Aug. 18, 1984, Eniko celebrated her 41st birthday in 2025. Kevin, meanwhile, turned 46 on July 6, 2025.

How tall is Kevin Hart's wife?

Eniko Hart is reportedly 5'6", making her about an inch taller than her husband, who has said that he's 5'5".

Kevin and Eniko Hart have been together for nearly 16 years and celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary in August 2025. They welcomed son Kenzo in 2017, followed by daughter Kaori in 2020.

After Kevin underwent emergency surgery following a car accident in September 2019, he said that he’d developed a new appreciation for his wife and family. “It all boiled down to four walls,” he told Men’s Health in February 2020. “And in the space of those four walls was my wife and my brother, my kids and my friends, all on rotation. And I got a chance to think about what matters, and it’s not fame. It’s not money. It’s not jewelry, cars, or watches. What matters are relationships. You know, the people that were helping me get up and out of the bed.”

Who else has Kevin Hart been married to?

Prior to his relationship with Eniko, Kevin was married to Torrei Hart (née Skipper). The former couple wed in 2003 and filed for divorce in 2010 before finalizing their split one year later. The duo share custody of their two children, daughter Heaven and son Hendrix.

Kevin later said that he wasn’t ready for marriage when he and Torrei walked down the aisle. “I’m not ashamed to say it, guys,” he told Chelsea Handler during a 2016 interview. “I got married at the age of 22. I was still all over the place. I didn’t really understand the definition of marriage. I wasn’t ready for it, so I take responsibility. I can say I messed my first marriage up. I’m man enough to say that.”

1982 Punk Rock Classic Becomes a Surprise No. 1 Hit—9 Years After Its Debut

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 7:56am

When The Clash released "Should I Stay or Should I Go" in 1982, they likely never expected it would take nine years for the track to hit the top spot on the charts.

The song, which was included on The Clash's LP Combat Rock, was written by band member Mick Jones, according to American Songwriter. Billboard's Top 100 in the United States ranked the song at No. 45 in 1982, released as a double-A side single alongside "Straight to Hell."

However, while the song was a modest success in the U.S. and the United Kingdom, it didn't really catch fire with listeners. But, nine years later, the song rocketed to the top spot on the British charts after its placement in a 1991 Levi's Jeans commercial.

According to Far Out Magazine, the band members allowed Jones, the song's writer, to decide whether or not they should allow "Should I Stay or Should I Go" to be used for commercial purposes. Reportedly, The Clash previously refused Dr. Pepper and British Telecom's desire to use the song.

The outlet wrote, "Jones, perhaps seeing the benefits ahead, agreed to the song being used in a commercial, rationalizing the brand as being a rock music institution, rather than a brand that the group would object [to] on moral grounds.” To double the return on his investment, Jones added not "Straight to Hell" as the second side of the reissued single, but instead, his new song "BAD."

The commercial features young actors in a pool hall, while the song plays in the background. A young pool shark takes on an older player in the spot.

Due to the commercial's popularity, the song found a new generation of fans. By March 1991, according to a Facebook post on the band's official page, "Should I Stay or Should I Go" reached the top spot on the U.K. charts. Ironically, the band had broken up five years prior, in 1986.

1969 Iconic Folk Rock Song Was Inspired by One of the Greatest Films of All Time

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 7:43am

“Space Oddity” was an iconic David Bowie song from 1969 inspired by the science fiction classic 2001: A Space Odyssey. The film is considered one of the greatest of all time, winning an Academy Award and getting preserved in the National Film Registry.

In a 2003 interview, Bowie spoke about the Stanley Kubrick film that inspired the hit song. “It was the sense of isolation I related to,” he said. “I found the whole thing amazing. I was out of my gourd, very stoned when I went to see it, several times, and it was really a revelation to me. It got the song flowing.”

“Space Oddity” was rush-released as a single on July 11, only nine days before the Apollo 11 moon landing, in order to capitalize on the historic event, which occurred on July 20.

“It was picked up by British television and used as the background music for the landing itself in Britain,” the singer said. “Though I’m sure they really weren’t listening to the lyric at all. It wasn’t a pleasant thing to juxtapose against a moon landing. Of course, I was overjoyed that they did. Obviously, some BBC official said, ‘Oh, right then, that space song, Major Tom, blah blah blah, that’ll be great.’ Nobody had the heart to tell the producer, ‘Um, but he gets stranded in space, sir!’”

Related: 1966 Ballad, Which Was Originally a Famous Italian Song, Became a No. 1 Hit 60 Years Ago

Bowie continued, “When I originally wrote about Major Tom, I thought I knew all about the great American dream and where it started and where it should stop. Here was the great blast of American technological know-how shoving this guy up into space, but once he gets there, he’s not quite sure why he’s there. And that’s where I left him.”

56 years ago today, on May 10, the song landed Bowie an Ivor Novello Award for Best Original Song. He also sang the song at the award show while his performance was transmitted to venues in America, France, Holland, Australia, Spain, and Venezuela.

Bowie, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996, released several more iconic songs throughout his career. They included “Heroes,” "Ziggy Stardust,” and  “Life on Mars?”  He was also an actor who appeared in hit films like Labyrinth and The Prestige. He died in 2016 at the age of 69 after a  battle with liver cancer.

1982 Classic Ranked Among Greatest Films of All Time Almost Got a Sequel

Sun, 05/10/2026 - 7:25am

Decades after audiences first fell in love with E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, the 1982 film remains a classic, but fans hoping for more will be disappointed to find out that a sequel was scrapped years ago.

E.T. followed a young boy named Elliott Taylor (Henry Thomas) who befriended the titular extraterrestrial stranded on Earth. Eventually, Elliott helped E.T. return home. In addition to Thomas, the cast includedDee Wallace as Elliott’s mother, Mary Taylor, Robert MacNaughton as Elliott’s older brother, Michael Taylor, Drew Barrymore as Elliott’s younger sister, Gertie Taylor, and Peter Coyote as Keys, the government agent hunting E.T.

The film was directed and produced by Steven Spielberg from a script written by Melissa Mathison. Ranked among the American Film Institute’s 100 greatest American movies of all time, E.T. is considered one of the seminal works of Spielberg’s illustrious Hollywood career.

Released in June 1982, E.T. made history as the highest-grossing film of all time, raking in $797.3 million at the box office. The movie held the record for 11 years until Spielberg’s Jurassic Park surpassed its sales in 1993.

Given the massive success of E.T., talks of a sequel were inevitable. Spielberg, now 79, even co-wrote a script titled E.T. II: Nocturnal Fears with Mathison. The story centered around Elliott and his friends being kidnapped by evil extraterrestrials and E.T. saving them. Despite the creation of a script, the sequel was ultimately scrapped.

In January 2025, Spielberg opened up about why he was reluctant to make a follow-up from the get-go.

“That was a real hard-fought victory because I didn’t have any rights. Before E.T., I had some rights, but I didn’t have a lot of rights,” he explained during a discussion with Barrymore, now 51, as part of the TCM Classic Film Festival: New York Pop-Up x 92NY event. “I kind of didn’t have what we call ‘the freeze,’ where you can stop the studio from making a sequel because you control the freeze on sequels, remakes and other ancillary uses of the IP. I didn’t have that. I got it after E.T. because of its success.”

Spielberg then recounted his reasoning for pumping the brakes on a sequel.

“I just did not want to make a sequel. I flirted with it for a little bit—just a little bit to see if I [could] think of a story—and the only thing I could think about was a book that was written by somebody that wrote the book for it called The Green Planet, which was all going to take place at E.T.’s home and see how E.T. lived,” he recalled. “But it was better as a novel than I think it would have been as a film.”

As for the prospect of an E.T. sequel happening in the future, Spielberg added, “I have no intention ever of seeing E.T. anywhere outside of this proscenium.”

While Barrymore was young when Spielberg shut down sequel talks, she understood his decision to let the original film stand on its own.

“I remember you saying, ‘We are not making a sequel to E.T.’ I think I was 8. I remember being like, ‘OK, that’s a bummer, but I totally get it,’” she said. “I thought it was a smart choice. I very much understand it. Where do we go from here? They’re just going to compare it to the first and leave something that’s perfect alone in isolation open to scrutiny. It made so much sense.”
