The Las Vegas Aces announced that superstar A'ja Wilson is the cover model for Vanity Fair’s first-ever Global Sports Issue, adding another major achievement to the decorated career of the four-time WNBA MVP.

“The M'VP on the cover of Vanity Fair's first-ever Global Sports Issue ✨ Congratulations, A'ja Wilson!” the team shared the news on Instagram.

Wilson appears on the cover for the feature titled “A'ja Wilson Takes Flight,” with photography by Campbell Addy. The feature arrives as Wilson begins another WNBA season while chasing a fifth MVP award and leading the Aces in their latest championship defense.

In the Vanity Fair interview, Wilson made her mindset clear.

“I want to prove that I'm the best,” she said. “That allows me to have a great trophy case. It allows me to get rings. And it allows me to just play with peace.”

The feature also explored Wilson’s goals away from basketball, including her interest in Hollywood, marriage and family life.

Wilson’s appearance on the cover comes after another historic season with the Aces. The 29-year-old became the first player in WNBA history to win four MVP awards.

Her résumé already includes three WNBA championships, two Finals MVP awards, three Defensive Player of the Year honors, seven All-Star selections, Olympic gold medals with Team USA and multiple All-WNBA First Team honors.

Before becoming a WNBA superstar, Wilson built her name at the South Carolina Gamecocks under coach Dawn Staley. She became a national champion, national player of the year, and the school’s all-time leading scorer before being selected first overall in the 2018 WNBA Draft.

Wilson’s dominance has continued into the 2026 season. She recently became the 12th player in league history to record at least 5,500 career points and 2,500 rebounds. 

The Vanity Fair cover also reflects Wilson’s growing power outside basketball. Over the last several years, she has become one of the biggest stars in women’s sports through endorsement deals, business ventures and media appearances.

Wilson’s partnerships include major brands such as Nike, Gatorade, Ruffles, Mountain Dew and AT&T. Her Nike partnership expanded with the launch of her signature A’One shoe collection in 2025.

Wilson has also expanded into business with her Burnt Wax Candle Company and strengthened her media profile through commercials, interviews and her book Dear Black Girls.

The Global Sports Issue places Wilson alongside some of the biggest names in international sports, including Carlos Alcaraz and Kylian Mbappé, showing how far her reach now extends beyond the WNBA.

While not always the case, a scary movie with an incredible, intense finale will often stay in the minds of the audience. The publicationColliderrecently released a ranking of the "8 most terrifying final shots in movies." The list highlighted spooky films like REC from 2007, 1980's The Shining, The Blair Witch Projectfrom 1999, and 1978's Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

According to Collider, the scariest "final shot" is from the 2014 horror filmIt Follows. The publication reported that the film's ending is bleak, as it appears that the shape-shifting creature is still trailing Jay (Maika Monroe) and Paul (Keir Gilchrist), despite their best efforts.

The Film's Writer & Director, David Robert Mitchell, Revealed the Inspiration Behind 'It Follows'

In a Q&A segment during the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival, the writer and director of It Follows, David Robert Mitchell, revealed that a childhood nightmare was a source of inspiration for the film. He explained that when he was around 10 years old, he would experience a recurring dream "where [he] would see someone in the distance, like, walking towards [him]."

"In the dream, I was a kid, obviously, and I would see this other little boy walking towards me, and in it I knew that this kid was somehow a monster [that] was going to kill me. And I would run away from, like, the playground and run down the street," said the director before an audience.

He said that once he would make it to his childhood house in the dream, the mysterious person "would walk just right through the front door," eliciting no reaction from his family. Mitchell also said the creator never caught up to him, which "in a way that made it scarier to [him]."

Mitchell then noted that after working on the story for "the past few years," he came up with the idea that the entity is passed through sexual contact, which is seen in the film.

A 1993 crime drama once labeled a box office disappointment is finding a second life three decades later.

Blood In, Blood Out is now among the top 15 movies trending on Hulu. The sudden rise has surprised viewers and revived interest in what many are now calling one of the most underrated films of its time.

The film was released on April 30, 1993, by Buena Vista Pictures Distribution and later became a cult favorite despite its weak theatrical run.

The renewed attention comes as the 3-hour crime drama begins climbing Hulu’s most-watched list in 2026. Originally starring Damian Chapa, Jesse Borrego and Benjamin Bratt, the film follows three relatives whose lives are shaped by gangs, prison, and broken friendships in East Los Angeles from the 1970s to the 1980s.

The story tracks Miklo, Paco and Cruz as they grow apart after joining the Vatos Locos gang. One ends up in prison, another joins law enforcement, and the third struggles with addiction and survival outside gang life.

The film’s long runtime and heavy themes once limited its audience reach, but streaming platforms have changed that.

According to recent streaming data mentions, the movie has entered Hulu’s top 15 list, bringing it back into pop culture conversation.

At the time of its release, Blood In, Blood Out struggled financially. The film earned only about $4.5 million in the U.S. against a $35 million budget, making it one of the studio’s notable underperformers of the era.

Despite that, the film slowly built a loyal audience over time, especially within the Mexican-American community. It later gained cult status for its raw portrayal of gang life, prison systems, and loyalty conflicts.

The film’s story is based partly on real-life experiences of writer Jimmy Santiago Baca, who drew from his own time in street gangs and incarceration.

It was directed by Taylor Hackford, who worked with multiple writers to shape the final screenplay.

Critics were divided at release. The film holds a 64% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences have given it a much higher 94% rating, showing a clear gap between early reviews and long-term viewer appreciation.

The film begins in 1972 when Miklo Velka moves to East Los Angeles after a violent family conflict. He joins his cousins Paco and Cruz, who are already part of a street gang.

A chain of events pushes each character in a different direction:

• Miklo enters prison and rises inside gang structures
• Paco joins the Marines and later becomes a police officer
• Cruz suffers injury, addiction, and personal loss

The film explores how choices made in youth can shape entire lifetimes. The title Blood In, Blood Out refers to gang initiation rules, where entering or leaving can come at a deadly cost.

Part of the renewed attention comes from streaming accessibility. Long films that once struggled in theaters now find new life on platforms like Hulu, where viewers can watch at home.Its strong audience rating of 7.9 on IMDb and continued word-of-mouth also contribute to its comeback.

In 1974, William DeVaughn released a smooth, soulful song with a deceptively simple message, and it became one of the defining crossover hits of the decade.

"Be Thankful for What You Got" later earned recognition among Rolling Stone's greatest songs of all time, celebrated for its laid-back groove, understated vocals and timeless lyrics about gratitude and contentment.

Built around warm instrumentation and a hypnotic rhythm, the song stood out immediately from many of the louder, more flamboyant hits dominating radio in the mid-1970s. Rather than focusing on wealth or excess, DeVaughn's lyrics encouraged listeners to appreciate what they already had.

The song's famous line about "diamond in the back, sunroof top" became instantly iconic, even as the overall message reminded audiences that material possessions were less important than self-worth and perspective.

"By the time the record was number one, [DeVaughn] was going door-to-door in Washington, handing out pamphlets," producer John Davis said in an interview. "That's why the album, which was recorded after, was all religious. William didn’t feel he could put the two things together. He'd come into a club to do a gig, and instead, he'd tell people, 'You're crazy, you shouldn't be in here, you shouldn't be drinking, you shouldn't be chasing women!'"

Part of the song's enduring appeal came from its broad crossover success. "Be Thankful for What You Got" performed strongly across soul, R&B and pop radio formats, helping it become a true radio anthem during an era when genre boundaries were beginning to blur more frequently.

The track also reflected the smoother sound that would help shape the evolution of quiet storm radio and sophisticated soul music in the years that followed.

Despite becoming closely associated with one signature hit, DeVaughn's influence extended far beyond the charts. Over the decades, "Be Thankful for What You Got" has been sampled, covered and referenced by countless artists across genres ranging from hip-hop to neo-soul.

Its mellow groove and uplifting message helped the song remain culturally relevant long after its original chart run ended.

Today, nearly 50 years later, "Be Thankful for What You Got" still feels remarkably fresh, a soft rock and soul classic whose message of gratitude continues to resonate across generations.

In 1994, Pulp Fiction made a remarkable world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, reigniting John Travolta’s career and turning him into a major Hollywood star once again.

John Travolta Says Pulp Fiction Marked a Major Turning Point in His Hollywood Journey

The Hollywood A-lister played the role of the smooth-talking mob hitman named Vincent Vega, who works alongside his philosophical, Bible-quoting partner Jules Winnfield, played by Samuel L. Jackson.

Pulp Fiction showcased Travolta’s versatility as an actor, marking a shift from his usual clean-cut leading man image as he transformed into a charismatic modern antihero.

In an interview with Variety, the actor shared how the movie became a major turning point in his career.

“The last success [I’d experienced] before Pulp Fiction was the Look Who’s Talking films, so getting the Pulp offer was certainly a next-level, upper echelon opportunity more along the lines of the Oscar nomination-type performance of Saturday Night Fever and Blow Out integrity,” he shared, adding, I was one of his favorite actors growing up on Welcome Back Kotter, Saturday Night Fever, Grease and Blow Out, and he wanted to work with me. I think it helped his being a big Pauline Kael fan, and my being one of her favorite actors, so he raised the bar for me and gave me a second chance at a high-end career, one that he always wanted me to have.

Lo and behold, Pulp Fiction not only re-established his image as a serious dramatic actor but also restored the artistic credibility and award-worthy recognition that he had once earned through his earlier acclaimed performances.

Travolta earned Best Actor nominations from major award-giving bodies, including the Academy Awards, the Golden Globe Awards, the BAFTA Awards and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards.

Donald Gibb, the actor behind frat terror Ogre in Revenge of the Nerds, has died at 71.

He died Tuesday evening at his home in Texas after a long illness. His family was with him.

His son Travis Gibb told TMZthat Donald "loved the Lord and his family, friends and fans with all his heart." The family asked for "prayers and privacy during this difficult time" and said he would be "deeply missed and forever remembered."

Ogre and the '80s Cult Hits

Gibb had the build, and he used it.

As Ogre, the brawny frat house heavy in 1984's Revenge of the Nerds, he stalked Robert Carradine, Anthony Edwards, and Curtis Armstrong, hollering "NERDS!" until it became one of the era's most-quoted bits. Gibb came back as Ogre in three follow-ups through 1994. The role made him a face for a generation of comedy fans.

Four years after the original, Gibb played Ray Jackson in 1988's Bloodsport alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme. The movie drew from martial artist Frank Dux's claims and became Van Damme's calling card.

He Kept Showing Up

Through the 1990s and 2000s, Gibb kept landing parts. U.S. Marshals in 1998 with Tommy Lee Jones. Hancock in 2008 with Will Smith. Co-workers said he was nothing like the on-screen heavies. Off camera, he was the opposite of every brute he played. Kind and warm.

Food Network is debuting a brand-new cooking competition show that is a spinoff of the long-running and much-beloved show Chopped.

On Chopped Castaways, 12 chefs are on a remote Caribbean island with no electricity, no refrigeration and plenty of weather elements to deal with. They must compete in challenges to earn ingredients and tools while also dealing with the mystery basket ingredients.

What Were the Challenges on the 'Chopped Castaways' Season 1 Premiere?

At the top of the show, host Ted Allen and judges Marcus Samuelsson, Maneet Chauhan and Gabe Bertaccini informed the cheftestants that, at least to start with, they are in two teams of six:

Green Team: Cate, James, Dwight, Ara, Hannah and Paulette

Blue Team: Aidan, Sunny, Jean-Paul, Logan, Steph and Carrie

Each week, there are two rounds of "culinary combat." The first is the team challenge. The winning team is safe, while among the losing team, the bottom two chefs will face off in The Gauntlet, which is a round of Chopped done outside on the beach, in the dark, over a live camp fire. Yikes.

The Team Challenge

The first team challenge tasked the chefs with building their kitchen and then cooking three cohesive dishes that all used the four mystery basket ingredients: goat leg, Hawaiian musubi (which is Spam and rice wrapped with seaweed), scorpions and papaya. They were given two and a half hours to get it all done.

On the island, the chefs were given some primitive tools, like grill plates to set over the live fire and cast iron pans and whatnot. They were also each allowed to bring five tools, and the show provided a limited pantry that had some produce, some fresh herbs and some spices.

The dishes were as follows:Blue Team:

• Aidan and Steph prepared Thai-style goat larb with papaya chimichurri with crispy musubi and shoestring fries.
• Sunny and Logan made marinated spiced goat with tostone-musubi rice cakes and papaya-scorpion chutney.
• Jean-Paul and Carrie went with candied goat with musubi rice & cassava rice balls, roasted papaya and scorpion nuts.

Green Team:

• Ara prepared papaya and scorpion goat kebabs with sumac rice.
• James and Cate made goat scallopini with papaya relish and musubi hash.
• Hannah and Paulette went with Caribbean goat stew with citrus papaya relish.

Weirdly, Dwight decided he was going to babysit the fire and be, like, the team's official taster or something, until Maneet came over to him and was basically like, "Dude, you have to cook something."

So he rubbed some goat with citrus and made a hash that they kind of shoe-horned into James and Cate's dish. Unfortunately for James, Dwight's fly-by-night goat was better than James' goat scallopini, so James was in a bit of trouble.

But somehow, despite their terrible communication as a team, the Green Team won the challenge. So James was saved.

On the Blue Team, the weakest dish was Sunny and Logan's spiced goat rice cakes, so they went into The Gauntlet to face off for survival.

The Gauntlet

The Gauntlet was intimidating enough on its own, but it did not help anything that a huge rainstorm rolled in while they were there. It certainly added some gravitas and drama to the already-intense situation.

Logan and Sunny were given 30 minutes to prepare a dish that must include: spider crab, avocado, artichoke hearts and sancocho, which is a Latin stew.

Sunny made a coconut rice lettuce wrap with crab and avocado lime crema with artichoke hearts salsa, though she ended up having to ditch the salsa idea and just put the artichoke hearts in the wrap.

Logan made grilled romaine crab salad with avocado sancocho puree.

In the end, it seemed like Sunny did not watch enough Chopped before coming on this show because doing rice in that amount of time was a terrible idea. Not only did it not cook properly, but it commandeered so much of her time that she didn't transform the artichoke hearts at all and she only used the sancocho as a drizzle on her wrap.

Logan's salad wasn't anything too spectacular either, but it was better than Sunny's wrap, so she was sent home.

At the end of the episode, Ted Allen teased "If you think these challenges were tough, you'll really need to 'dig in' to survive what we have in store for you next."

Next on 'Chopped Castaways'

Next week's episode is titled "Dig In or Go Home" and its description reads, "The remaining 11 chefs dig up their basket ingredients and must transform the mix of high-quality and low-quality items into five family-style dishes. One team rallies together, while the other begins to crack as individual agendas take over."

In the preview reel for next week, we hear Carrie say, "I would do unspeakable, nasty things for some butter," and Logan later says, "I just pulled a rabbit out of my ass."

Jean-Paul says of someone unidentified, "He's my biggest competition… and our biggest asset." I wonder if that's about Aidan, Steph or Logan?

Marcus also tells someone off camera, "You're cooking way beyond your years."

Dallas fans have Larry Hagman to thank for Patrick Duffy’s memorable return during season 9.

Duffy, now 77, notably left the CBS primetime soap opera after his character, Bobby Ewing, was supposedly killed in a car crash during the season 8 finale in May 1985. One year later, in a shocking twist, Bobby appeared in the final moments of the May 1986 season 9 finale, cheerily greeting his ex-wife Pam (Victoria Principal) while taking a shower. When season 10 premiered in September 1986, fans learned that Bobby’s death and the entirety of season 9 had all been a dream in Pam’s mind.

Behind the scenes, Duffy fully intended to leave Dallas, but Hagman—who played Bobby’s brother J.R. Ewing—“was upset” that he wasn’t on set anymore because the two “loved working together.”

“When Larry Hagman called me and said, ‘Come out to Malibu, I want to talk to you,’ I knew exactly what he wanted to talk about,” Duffy recalled in a Television Academy interview published on Tuesday, May 12. “I turned to my wife at the time and said, ‘They’re going to ask me to come back on the show.’ She then said, ‘You can’t come back unless that last season was a dream.’ Now, they didn’t take her idea, but she had the same concept that [showrunner] Leonard Katzman had. ‘It was all a dream,’ that was Katzman’s idea—start to finish. Hagman didn’t even know; he just knew that he wanted me back.”

Duffy and Hagman kept in touch after the former’s exit from Dallas, with Hagman informing his pal about what was happening with the show.

“I knew the ratings [had dipped] only because my agent was talking to me [about it], and I knew people weren’t happy because Hagman and I almost talked at least once or twice a week,” Duffy recounted. “He’d say, ‘Patrick, this is terrible. I’m not having any fun anymore.’ I said, ‘I’m sorry, buddy. I’m just trying to make a go of it here on my own.’”

When Duffy met up with Hagman to discuss his potential return, it didn’t take much convincing.

“Well, first we got drunk. We went to a Mexican restaurant in Malibu, and all he had to say was, ‘Damn it, come on back.’ I said, ‘OK,’ and that was it,” Duffy remembered.

After speaking with Hagman, Duffy heard Katzman’s pitch about Bobby’s return.

“Honestly, I would have done anything,” he confessed. “He could have said, ‘I’m gonna put reindeer antlers on you, strap you to the front of a truck and we’ll say you were wounded.’ It didn’t matter to me, I just wanted to come back home.”

To keep the circumstances of Bobby’s return a secret, Duffy filmed two fake scenes for the finale, one in which he removed bandages from his face and another in which he was revealed to be Bobby’s twin brother. As for the shower scene, Principal, now 76, shot her part—where Pam opened the door to see Bobby—without Duffy, so she didn’t learn that her character discovered him in the shower until the episode aired.  

“I was happy to come back. Hagman was happy to have me back. I have since found out, however, that some of the fanbase was not upset that I was coming back, but rather that they felt shortchanged by having invested a year [that was erased],” Duffy said. “But they didn’t leave—the ratings came back.”

Duffy and Hagman later reunited for the Dallas revival, which aired on TNT for three seasons from June 2012 to September 2014. During production on season 2, Hagman died of complications from acute myeloid leukemia in November 2012 at age 81, with Duffy at his bedside.

Dylan Dreyer just revealed a secret celebrity relative—and it's not who fans may expect.

During the Tuesday, May 12 episode of the Today show, Dreyer interviewed Alix Earle and explained to cohosts Al Roker and Craig Melvin that she and the social media influencer are second cousins.

"Growing up, your dad is like one of seven. You have lots of brothers and sisters," Dreyer told Earle of her dad, Thomas "TJ" Earle, who is Dylan's first cousin. "You have a million cousins. The Christmas card, when it arrives every year, there's like 100 people in it."

Earle—who has four younger siblings—agreed, saying, "My family's huge."

The Dancing With The Stars alum then revealed that she almost pursued a career in broadcast journalism after watching her cousin on TV "all the time" when she was a kid.

"I took a broadcasting course in college, or it was a little club after school. And I was not very good at it, so I quit," Earle said with a laugh. "But I always wanted to be just like you."

Despite their family connection, the pair actually met for the first time recently after their careers caused them to cross paths.

"Funny enough, Alix and I hadn't really met until the Kentucky Derby a couple years ago, for the first time," Dreyer said.

"This is so cool getting to sit here and do this with you," Earle added of their time together on Today, adding it was "such a special day."

On the one hand, it's not uncommon for a #1 song to experience a steep decline in popularity after topping the charts...but they're not all remembered as the "worst song ever" (by a member of the band, no less).

Even though Starship's "We Built This City" went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on Nov. 16, 1985, in the years since, it's gained a reputation as one of the awful tunes ever to hit the airwaves. Not only did Starship member Grace Slick go on record about how much she hated the track, but countless critics have agreed: As Ultimate Classic Rock reported, VH1 and Blender magazine ranked the song #1 on their list of The 50 Most Awesomely Bad Songs…Ever in 2004; a few years later, in 2011, Rolling Stone’s readers declared "We Built This City" to be the worst song of the ’80s. GQ even called it “the most detested song in human history."

So why does it seem like you've been hearing "We Built This City" on TV like, all the time for the past year? It all has to do with toilet paper.

That would be Quilted Northern toilet paper, to be exact, and the company's "Keep It Quilted" campaign. In the commercials, a trio of women known as the Quilted Queens wear white quilted jackets and sing their own version of Starship's hit, “We Quilt This City," while grocery shopping. They ads, designed in collaboration with Orchard Creative, are colorful, ridiculous, and unbelievably catchy (just like the original song).

“We wanted to build a campaign to help Quilted Northern break through the noise in the category, and most importantly, be able to communicate why our target consumer should choose Quilted Northern," said Priti Lokre, Quilted Northern senior brand building manager in a statement shared with Tissue Online North America.

To that end, the lyrics of "We Quilt This City" are an ode to comfort:

"So cushy and so plushy / Just give it a try / Feeling is believing / We quilt this city with a comfy roll"

Grace Slick never liked 'We Built This City'

The fact that "We Built This City" ended up as a toilet paper commercial theme song only makes Slick's explanation for why she did the song in the first place all the more fitting.

As Slick told Vanity Fair in 2012, she agreed to sing on "We Built This City" because she was trying to make amends for past behavior.

"I was such an a—hole for a while, I was trying to make up for it by being sober, which I was all during the '80s, which is a bizarre decade to be sober in," she said. "So I was trying to make it up to the band by being a good girl. Here, we’re going to sing this song, 'We Built This City on Rock & Roll.' Oh you’re s—tting me, that’s the worst song ever."

And now it all makes sense.

Disney just nailed down the month.

Camp Rock 3 lands August 2026 on Disney+ and Disney Channel, the studio confirmed today alongside a brand-new poster. The third entry in the beloved Disney Channel musical franchise rolls in 16 years after Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam dropped on Disney Channel in 2010. The original Camp Rock premiered on Disney Channel in June 2008.

Cue the Jonas Brothers, back at the lake.

Inside the New 'Camp Rock 3' Plot

Disney's official synopsis: the band loses their opening act ahead of a reunion tour. So they head back to Camp Rock to scout the next big sensation. Classic reset. The setup tracks pretty closely with the real-life Jonas Brothers reunion tour that's been rolling for the past few years.

Behind the camera, Veronica Rodriguez directs. Eydie Faye wrote the screenplay. Choreography by Jamal Sims. The studio first teased the project last December with a 43-second clip of the Jonas Brothers walking back toward the camp lake, soundtracked by Mitchie and Shane's signature duet "Wouldn't Change a Thing," paired with a vague summer 2026 window.

Today's reveal pins the exact month.

Demi Lovato Returns

Demi Lovato joins as executive producer alongside the Jonas Brothers, Tim Federle, Betsy Sullenger, Spencer Berman, and Gary Marsh. Whether her original character Mitchie Torres returns on screen? Pearl Jam has some exciting news to share with fans.

The legendary ‘90s rock group was announced as the headliner for the final night of the 2026 Ohana Festival, marking their first performance since longtime drummer Matt Cameron left the band in 2025.

The festival—which was founded by frontman Eddie Vedderin 2016—is set to take place September 25 through 27 in Dana Point, California. The appearance marks the band’s first confirmed live performance since Cameron’s departure, though one major detail still remains a mystery: who will be behind the drums?

Cameron announced his split from Pearl Jam in July 2025 after nearly three decades with the band. “Thank you all from the bottom of my heart,” he said at the time, calling his years with the group “the opportunity of a lifetime.” Pearl Jam later praised the drummer in a statement of their own, describing him as “a singular and true powerhouse of a musician and drummer.”

As of April, Pearl Jam still hadn’t found a replacement. “We’ve just got to find a new drummer, you know? We don’t have one,” guitarist Mike McCready told American Songwriter on April 17.

That uncertainty has only fueled fan curiosity online, with longtime listeners already speculating about possible fill-ins and surprise guests for the performance.

“Who’s the drummer for PJ?” one curious fan asked in the comments of the Instagram post announcing the lineup on Tuesday, May 12.

“Guess PJ is done woodshedding for the moment 🤷🏻‍♂️ Well, alright! Maybe it’ll be a rotating cast of drummers :),” another wrote.

“I’m saying it’s Stephen Perkins or Dave Krusen,” a third theorized. Perkins is known work in Jane’s Addiction and Krusen was Pearl Jam’s original drummer who left after the release of gtheir first album in 1991.

Vedder will also headline the festival’s opening night with Eddie Vedder & Friends, while Tyler Childers tops the bill on day two. Other performers include Billy Idol, Pixies, Alabama Shakes, and Fontaines D.C..

As for the dummer—eager fans will just have to wait and see.

The Real Housewives of New Jerseyproved that sometimes blood is ‘Thicker Than Water’ as the series premiered on Bravo, 17 years ago today.

Bravo described the series as ‘the most affluent and drama-filled women in the Garden State’; viewers were introduced to the original five members of the RHONJ cast: Dina Manzo, Teresa Giudice, Jacqueline Laurita, Caroline Manzo, and Danielle Staub.

The premiere episode set up the connections that served the women as the group had been connected in some form for years prior to the series's beginning production. Since Caroline and Dina were sisters, Jacqueline, their sister-in-law, had been friends with them for years, and Danielle had been introduced to the group through Jacqueline.

After introducing viewers to each housewife individually and their connection to the group at large, the premiere focused on two major story beats. First, Danielle goes on a blind date with someone she met online under the user name “Gucci Model,” with whom she had been talking and having explicit conversations for the past two years.

While she goes to an upscale restaurant and waits for him at the bar, Jacqueline and Teresa follow along to make sure she is safe. When “Gucci Model” is a no-show, Danielle leaves him a voice mail giving him a piece of her mind, then reaches out to her friend, asking her to come to the restaurant, and is surprised when the woman appears moments later.

The second storyline also focused on Danielle and her contentious relationship with Dina. According to Dina, Danielle has started rumors in New Jersey that she doesn’t agree with. Viewers learn that Dina believes Jacqueline’s relationship with her has changed since she became friends with Danielle.

The premiere was watched by over 1.72 million viewers, and by the finale, that number had grown to 3.47 million, which concluded with Theresa infamously flipping a table.

Over the next 14 years, The Real Housewives of New Jersey would keep viewers glued to their screens with 249 episodes broadcast, along with three spinoff series and appearances in the Peacock spinoff series The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip.

The series was put on hold after filming the finale of Season 14 in 2024, with production only recently returning for the series upcoming 15th season.

In the meantime, viewers will see Teresa’s return to the Real Housewives franchise with Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Roaring 20th premiering on August 9, 2026, on Bravo.

Martin Short is opening up about the loss of his daughter Katherine.

During a Sunday, May 10 appearance on CBS News Sunday Morning, the actor revealed why he's sharing his grief journey publicly. Katherine died by suicide at the age of 42 in February.

"If I said to the audience, any audience I was in, 'How many have lost anyone from suicide?' You'd be stunned by the hands that would go [up]. 'How many have mental health in their family?' 
You'd be stunned by the hands that would go up," Short said. "So, why pretend that this is your own pain? Maybe by sharing your pain, it will help other people's pain."

When asked if sharing his pain helps him, Short replied, "Yes, I think so. I think whenever you realize you're not the only person on the planet that's going through something, I think, we go, 'Oh, really?'"

At another point in the interview, Short called's Katherine's death “a nightmare.”

“It’s been a nightmare for the family,” he said. “But the understanding [is] that mental health and cancer, like my wife’s, are both diseases, and sometimes with diseases they are terminal. And my daughter fought for a long time with extreme mental health, borderline personality disorder, other things, and did the best she couldn’t until she couldn’t.”

Katherine, who worked as a social worker in Los Angeles, was the eldest daughter of Short and his late wife, actress Nancy Dolman. Nancy died from ovarian cancer in 2010.

"[Nancy's] last words to me were 'Martin, let me go,'" Short added. "And what [Katherine] was saying was 'Dad, let me go.'"

According to People, Katherine worked in private practice as a licensed clinical social worker and worked part-time at the clinic Amae Health, providing community outreach, family support groups, peer support and psychotherapy. 

She also worked with Glenn Close‘s charity Bring Change 2 Mind, which focuses on reducing stigma around mental health issues.

Throughout the years, Katherine mainly stayed out of the public eye—opting to attend a few events with her father over the years.

Short is set to be featured in the upcoming Netflix documentary film Marty, Life Is Short, premiering on Tuesday, May 12. The documentary is dedicated to both Katherine and actress Catherine O’Hara, Short’s longtime friend and occasional co-star who died in January.

Aside from its box office triumph, the film earned significant critical acclaim. The movie was largely considered a masterpiece by film industry professionals and was heavily recognized during the 1976 award season.

The soundtrack was crafted by musical director Richard Baskin and several key actors featured in the movie who wrote their own material. Some of the most notable songs were Carradine's "I'm Easy" and "It Don't Worry Me," Blakley's "Bluebird" and "Dues," Gibson's "200 Years" and Black's "Rolling Stone." In total, over a dozen original tracks were composed for the film, making for a memorable and enduring soundtrack.
