My Pug mix is a rescue from Puerto Rico and I'm convinced he's part Corgi. He's definitely a low rider and has that barrel-like build of both breeds. I see other characteristics of a Corgi, like over-the-top cuteness, and since that breed has become a popular hybrid option, I suspect it's in his genetic line.

Lottie is a Dachshund-Corgi mix and also off-the-charts adorable, where she almost resembles a plushie toy.

In the TikTok from @emilyjennette, Lottie stood in front of the camera and practically posed for her mom. "Ever seen a Dorgi?" the onscreen text asked. "Corgi + Dachshund."

Lottie's tan and white fur was perfectly proportioned for her little body. She tilted her head and had one ear lifted, making her look like a puppy stuffed animal that you just want to cuddle. The post shared some details on the canine cutie.

Siblings steal from each other; it's just part of what we do. Right before I sat down to write this, I stole my sister's lotion. She steals more things from me than I can keep track of, too. I've just given up.

Apparently, the good old Stealthy Sibling Stealing transcends species. Recently, a Cockatoo got caught red-taloned stealing a treat from her African Grey Parrot brother, and it could not have been more perfect:

The Parrot Lady has her hands full with all of these cuckoo birds, that's for sure. They're incredibly lucky that she loves them all as dearly as she does! She would never trade any of these sassy creatures for anything. She has several, including:

1. Sweet Pea, a Cockatoo.
2. Brody, an African Grey Parrot.
3. Polly, an Amazon Parrot who actually loves crackers.

Sweet Pea, however, would trade any one of her siblings for a good enough snack. As her name suggests, she is a very sweet bird. When there are snacks involved, though, this parrot does not play.

In this video, she's stealing some food from her brother, Brody. It looks like a piece of carrot! A yummy treat he doesn't get every day, and here she is, stealing it out from under him.

She does this all the time. In case it wasn't obvious, Sweet Pea is kind of the star of the show here: she gets what she wants, and takes what she can't have anyway. When she doesn't, she does things like this:

Sweet Pea is a rescue. She spent several years living a hard life, and now she's treated like a princess. It's what she deserves!

Cockatoos Are Greedy

Sweet Pea's actions are genuinely such classic Cockatoo behavior. Cockatoos don't think about manners as we do; they tend to go after whatever they want. This can lead to them being:

1. Loud.
2. Aggressive.
3. Possessive over everything.

Unfortunately, cockatoos aren't simple birds. They require experienced caretakers, and even then, you're going to have good days and bad days. Cockatoos are one of the most commonly misunderstood and subsequently rehomed parrot species.

Luckily, Sweet Pea has landed somewhere she's loved and cared for. I hope she gets to stay that way forever!

A comical raccoon named Toonie is making TikTok viewers a little jealous by skillfully noshing on cheese balls without a care in the world. From her gentle crunching to her focused little paws, Toonie is the epitome of snacking goals in a video, which feels like ASMR made for animal lovers.

Everyone wants to talk about emotional support dogs, but as the mom of a dog who needs near-constant emotional support, I would like to point out that those are more common than you think.

Zebby the Golden loves to make Mom hold his hand, though he apparently really loves making her do it when she's working from home. That's usually time he doesn't get to spend with her, so when he can, he wants to make it special!

Of course, it’s common for kittens and young cats to engage in roughhousing because all feline play consists of mock aggression. Cats stalk, chase, sneak, pounce, swat, kick, scratch, ambush, attack, and bite each other—all in good fun, according to the ASPCA.

I think these two are just getting out some energy, but I’m still keeping an eye on them because of all that hissing!

While it’s a little scary to hear your little ones hissing at each other, hissing during play is normal. However, when it becomes more frequent, it may be time to call in a behavioral expert, as there could be an underlying issue that’s causing a problem.

With that, these two Ragdoll kitties sure keep things, er, interesting. Their fur looks so thick and soft, we're sure that if they land any blows, no harm will be done. If these were my pets, there would never be trouble, as I’d spend the entire day alternating cats, admiring one for a bit, and then switching to the other for a while. Then repeating this over and over again. No time for fighting when your mama is cuddling you!

Another trip around the sun has nothing to do with age. Birthdays really aren't about how many candles are on the cake or what gifts you get (or don't). The day you're born gives loved ones the chance to celebrate having you in their lives another year, and that's a special thing.

In the TikTok from @hanktheenglishlab, the precious puppy was at the top of the stairs trying to figure out how to get to the bottom. As he was plotting his strategy on navigating this new terrain, Hank happened to turn his head and spotted something strange.

A long and furry tail-like object seemed to wag at his every whim and Hank was completely mystified. The challenge of the steps was shelved as the puppy's attention turned to his back end, where he literally did a double take at what he saw.

"He discovered his tail while learning to go down stairs," the onscreen text explained, with the caption adding, "Practicing stairs took a bit of a detour for Hank today! At least he learned something new."

The playful pup stood up and attempted to grab his tail with his mouth, yet somehow it kept slipping away. Hank's expression showed his confusion as he tried to figure out another angle. He lay on the floor and was able to latch onto his tail until he stood up, where it was out of reach once again.

The fur baby definitely got an A for effort as he tried sneaking up on his tail, chasing it, and other tactics for capture. Hank's fascination and frustration over his tail were pure puppy cuteness at its best. The newfound discovery probably took up most of his day.

Hank Has a Fan Base

Viewers of the video fell in love with Hank and were completely charmed by the canine cutie, posting a slew of comical comments.

Bruno the Newfoundland Shepherd is the most precious boy the world has ever seen. He's just a baby, too: they only just got him around Christmas. That makes three adorable dogs in this house:

1. Bruno, a Newfoundland Shepherd.
2. Penny, a Goldendoodle.
3. Grizzly, a Red and Black Lab mix.

Right now, Bruno is a perfect mix of both of his parent breeds. While his coat is definitely giving Newfoundland (look at the little white patch on his chest!), the shape of his ears and his body overall are more German Shepherd!

Being that he's the baby, Bruno is really getting whatever he wants these days. He's having a lot of fun, and when he and his siblings go on walks, all heads turn. They take the neighbors' breath away!

Fans can’t get enough of this precious kitty despite having some concerns about using that bowl at mealtime.

Now, I was never extended an invitation, but I’d still be on the fence because Ragdolls shed quite a bit, and, umm, require some additional "maintenance" as Momo’s mom shares in another clip, which may or may not be on the same counter.

Still, Momo is just the cutest, and I’m sure this little angel's mom runs a tight ship in the kitchen, and that bowl is going straight into the sink.

I wish my kitties would hang out with me when I cook. Occasionally, they’ll come over to say hello when they want a taste of something, but for the most part, they’re happier on a windowsill waiting for a bird or two to fly by.

Why Do Cats Curl Up Into a Ball?

I think the cutest part of this clip is when Momo actually curls up into a ball!

Cats do this for warmth. By turning into a ball, they conserve heat, and in essence, make themselves a natural blanket!

Momo is just the sweetest, and I hope she shares a nice warm meal with Mama!

I don't know what it is, but the chokehold that chews have on my dogs is wild. I've spent no less than $97,637,634 on the only ones they'll accept, and even then, it's hit or miss. When they don't get one, that's when I get the full dramatic performance meant to convince or manipulate me into giving them one, which, of course, I do!

This is exactly how one Brussels Griffonnamed Sway feels when Mom won't give her a chew. Dressed in her adorable mini cow outfit would make it hard for me to deny her, but it's the little fit she throws (channeling my dogs!) that takes it over the top!

Hers is a remarkable example of how quickly Alpacas, and many animals, learn to walk after birth. This tiny newborn is standing and moving her legs after just ten minutes of life. Alpacas typically stand within 15 to 30 minutes after being born and begin walking within their first 30 to 90 minutes. While baby alpacas may be wobbly at first, they are known to get on their feet quickly in an effort to keep up with their mothers. Within a day, most alpacas are steady enough to run and play.

The heartwarming video is capturing the attention of viewers across social media, delivering the kind of feel-good content people never seem to tire of. Many viewers were so charmed by the mini alpaca’s early attempts at walking that they joked about adding a mini alpaca to their own family.

Germany added something extra to these festivities: They used a hedgehog to predict the weather, saying if the hedgehog saw its shadow, they'd endure six more weeks of bad weather.

Between 1725 and 1775, a swath of Germans made their way to the United States, many of them settling in Pennsylvania, per Time. They kept their Candlemas tradition, replacing the hedgehog with a groundhog since they were plentiful in the area.

Pennsylvania newspaper Punxsutawney Spirit published a story about the groundhog festivities in 1886, and the next year, the city embraced the celebration and held the first Groundhog Day at Gobbler’s Knob. The newspaper's editor (who belonged to a group of groundhog hunters) declared that Phil, Punxsutawney's groundhog, was the nation's only weather-forecasting rodent.

But why does the groundhog actually emerge? The critters go into hibernation in the late fall and peek out in February to look for a mate before burrowing back underground. They're fully awake come March.

TikTok viewers are cracking up over Rosie the Golden Retriever, who gives her mom a full lecture after being picked up from boarding. Her expressive reaction makes it hilariously unclear, however, whether she’s thrilled to be reunited—or still holding a grudge. It's as if she suddenly remembers how they abandoned her while going on vacation and decides to air her grievances. With her tail betraying her the entire time, Rosie chews out her parents while they giggle and call her name from behind the camera. She ultimately succumbs to her excitement, however, and runs to her mama for hugs. She's so overcome, in fact, that she pees a little bit after being happily reunited.

Organizations have been fighting against puppy mills for years. PETA, Humane World for Animals, Best Friends Animal Society, and others have brought the atrocities these places commit to the light, while partnering with local law enforcement agencies to shut them down. But it seems no matter their efforts, dogs are still being subjected to the inhumane practices of commercial breeders who care more about the bottom line than the animals in their care.

While fighting these unethical breeders helps, legislation is a significant part of the puzzle. Each year, more states enact laws and close loopholes that enable these commercial outfits to operate. In January, three California laws took effect, closing gaps in existing laws and attempting to shut down the puppy mill industry.

The Three Laws Making a Dent In Puppy Mills View this post on Instagram

The first law in this puppy mill fighting bundle is AB 506. Introduced by Ventura Assemblymember Steve Bennett, the bill aims to create more transparency when it comes to online pet brokers. It requires pet sellers to disclose the animals' origin and provide health information. The bill also removes the barrier of high-cost, non-refundable pet deposits. Too often, this is used to trap pet owners into a contract that ultimately delivers an unhealthy animal.

When Bennett first introduced the bill in 2025, he said in a press release, "Choosing our fur-ever companions is a meaningful, life-changing process. Families are entitled to know where their new dog/cat comes from and the conditions in which their pet grew up. By requiring sellers to provide more information up front and prohibiting the use of non-refundable deposits as a 'paywall', this bill will empower families in the adoption process."

California's AB519 from Menlo Park's Assemblymember Marc Berman stops third-party pet brokers from selling puppies, cats, and bunnies in the state. It specifically targets online brokers who often source their dogs from puppy mills. To round out the package, SB 312, introduced by Santa Ana Senator Thomas Umberg, requires health certificates to be submitted when dogs are brought into the state. The requirement is that, within 10 days of shipment, the California Department of Food & Agriculture has a certificate for each animal. Subsequently, the CDFA will provide the certificates as requested.

While these three were big wins for stopping puppy mills, they weren't the only pet-related laws the Governor signed. AB 867 bans cats from the inhumane practice of declawing, except for when medically necessary, and builds on the work the administration has been doing over the last five years to add additional protections to pets.

White-handed gibbons are an endangered species in the wild, with the population thought to be in decline. However, obtaining an exact count is difficult because their population is spread across Southeast Asian forests, and they're frequently misidentified as other Gibbon species. A 2014 study showed that their population has declined by half over the last 40 years.

The decline of these adorable primates in the wild makes their conservation a priority. Several conservation breeding programs in zoos and sanctuaries worldwide help increase populations. One pair of gibbons in Indianapolis is definitely doing its part to save its species: earlier this month, they welcomed their fourth offspring.

A New White-Handed Gibbon Is Born View this post on Instagram

Indianapolis Zoo's pair of Gibbons, Elliot and Koko, are proud parents of their fourth baby. Their newest addition was born on Jan. 10, 2026. According to an Instagram post from the zoo, the baby and momma are doing great, but you won't be able to see the pair in the exhibit just yet.

They will recuperate and bond until the winter weather has subsided. Gibbons are native to Southeast Asia, so they're partial to warm, tropical conditions with higher humidity, all of which is lacking in the Midwest at the moment.

Temperatures below 40 degrees Fahrenheit can be especially challenging for their young. The zoo has heated indoor areas where gibbons can remain warm and comfortable, which is where they will be for the foreseeable future. Once the weather is warmer, they will return to the enclosure with their other child, Echo.

The Gibbon Family Unit

In the wild, a bonded pair of gibbons lives in their family unit with up to four offspring until their young reach maturity. Then, they leave to find their own bonded mates and start families, something the zoo has been replicating while working to preserve the species.

Koko and Elliot's newest little one is their fourth baby. Unfortunately, their firstborn, Kopi, who they had in 2015, passed away. Kavi, Echo's older sister, is living her best life at the Cincinnati Zoo with a male named Hosen, leaving Echo and the new, yet-to-be-named baby with Koko and Elliot.

Koko and Elliot have been residents of the zoo since 2007 and 2009, respectively, and, according to the zoo, they are part of the Gibbon Species Survival Plan (Gibbon SSP). The plan, facilitated by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), aims to establish and sustain a diverse, stable gibbon population across North American locations.

Typically, wild gibbons have up to four offspring due to their slow reproduction rate. While gestation is only 7 months, gibbons usually leave 2 to 3 years between each birth. The SSP and the AZA meticulously cultivate all breeding for gibbons in their program.

According to The Gibbon Conservation Center, they can live up to 50 years in captivity, while only living 30 years in the wild, leaving plenty of time for this pair to produce more little gibbons. This latest addition to their brood is such a cutie!

Things cats do rarely surprise me anymore because I've come to expect they will one day take over the world, and there's nothing we can do about it. With intelligence that probably ranks far above normal numbers and the kind of curiosity and confidence that gets them in trouble, I can't help but admire (and fear) what felines are capable of.

That said, when kitties do band together and take over, talking Siamese cat Mervyn Cumberland Weems—aka "Merv"—is the exact right gal for the job as commander of the highest degree. If you need proof, her latest stunt of putting the new kitten in "jail" should do it!

Winter is here in full force and most of the country is dealing with freezing temps. Our fur babies may have full coats, but it's still not enough to keep them warm in these conditions. Just like their parents, our dogs seek out any heat source they can find and are hesitant to share.

Case in point, Piglet the foster Pit Bull puppy discovered a heating vent in his house and claimed it as his own.

In the TikTok from @we.three.pitties, Piglet's foster mom searched for the Pittie pup and got concerned when she couldn't locate him.

"I panicked when I couldn't find our itty bitty foster Pittie, but then I found him like this," the onscreen text read.

The camera panned over to Piglet, who hovered over a small heating vent in the corner of the bedroom that was releasing very hot air.

"Did you find the heat source?" the canine cutie's mom asked, impressed with his ability to suss out where the warmth originated. Piglet sprawled out on the vent so his entire body could take in the high-temped airstream as his mom praised his resourcefulness.

"You're already a professional Pit Bull and you're only like 8 weeks old — where did you learn to do this?" his mom questioned. "This is incredible."

Piglet Loves the Heat

This wasn't the first time Piglet uncovered a place to keep warm. The foster puppy makes a habit of finding the toastiest place to spend his time.

"Our little Piggly Wig will seek out any and all heat sources to toast up his little bod," the caption shared. "His newest obsession? The air vents, which are pumping out hot air right now."

Apparently, Piglet is picky about his heat sources and currently prefers the vents despite many other options.

"It's so funny he's doing this," his mom remarked. "He has access to heated blankets everywhere. The fire's on and going."

But Piglet couldn't resist the heat blowing directly onto his little body. The adorable pup was practically glued to the vent and even gave it a few licks. He looked completely relaxed and content, and definitely not in a hurry to go anywhere else.

The next time Piglet's mom can't find him, she'll definitely know where to look.
