On Mar. 20, the National Wild Turkey Federation, Missouri Department of Conservation and Sullivan Fire Department will host a Youth Turkey Hunting Clinic.

For the first time since 2007, the Lady Eagles will sit out the state playoffs after losing to St. Clair, 48-34, in the Class 4 District 4 tournament semifinals on Wednesday night.
The Lady Eagles had won three district championships in the past four seasons. They finished the season with a 12-14 record.

Tracy Bishop of Xtreme Electronix in Union was the winner of diamond jewelry on Feb. 13. Shown presenting it to Bishop is Quinn Hulsey, a sixth grader at Sullivan Middle School. Hulsey is traveling to Australia in June with People to People. Her travels are being made possible, in part, by donations received for the raffle.

Suspect In Officer-Involved Shooting Identified

On March 9, 2010, officers from the Crawford County Sheriff’s
Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol shot and killed an
armed suspect, after that person led officers on a pursuit and then
fired a weapon at the officers.
The suspect has been identified as Patrick L. Greer, 29, of Ft.
Worth, Texas.  Contact with Greer was initiated on the morning of March
9, 2010, by the Cuba Police Department and the Crawford County

On Mar. 9 the Cuba Police Dept. and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department received information  that a subject wanted on a felony warrant from the state of Texas was in the Cuba area. The suspect was reportedly armed, dangerous, and would shoot at law enforcement officers. The suspect, a white male, was reportedly driving a dark colored, Ford pickup, with a camper and bearing Texas license plates.

Solid Waste District Announces Earth Day Poster, Trash Art Contest For 2010

The Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District recently announced the theme for its 2010 poster and trash art contest. This year’s theme is “Be Green! Keep the Planet Clean.”
This is the 18th year that Ozark Rivers has sponsored the contest. Students attending public and private schools in Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Phelps, Pulaski or Washington counties are eligible to participate. Home-schooled students in the seven-county area are also encouraged to participate.

On February 4th, 139 students received award tags from Mr. Starhawk for perfect attendance during the month of January. The January Starhawks of the month were recognized with a certificate, a pencil and breakfast with the principal on Thursday, January 28th.

Dear Editor,
Sullivan council members are once again working toward hiring an
economic developer because according to the council “they have
budgeted to do so”.  This raises many questions and a need for
correcting some fundamental problems in my view. I have serious
concerns and questions regarding the need to hire an economic
developer in Sullivan.
As a property owner/tax payer in Sullivan, with employees and family
tied to this City as well, I have an immense interest in what goes on
