Linda Perry wants to slap Madonna. Not out of anger, but out of frustration for what the iconic pop star used to represent.

The legendary songwriter and producer behind hits for Christina Aguilera and Pink did not hold back during a recent interview where she discussed the Queen of Pop’s current musical direction.

"The one that always is like a thorn in my side, because I don’t know why I wanna do this," Perry said. "She’s turned me down so many times. When Madonna is ready to retire, she should make that album with me, because I’ll make her such a great album. Because right now, one of the biggest problems I’m having with Madonna: she is one of the greatest. She taught women to be strong and be yourself. And I love how she was just constantly changing."

"But of late, I feel she is a follower," Perry said. "She’s following the trends. She’s trying to compete with Charlie XCX and this and that. You know, like everything about her seems weak to me and not powerful.”

Perry continued, “So i would love to get that woman in a studio, slap her in the face a couple of times and say ‘wake up, get back to who Madonna is and what you represent. You know, you are a leader. So we gotta get back there and focus on the power of what her voice can do. Not the power of what auto-tune and effects can do and all the electronics that she’s into right now to hide all that.”

The famed songwriter has her own ideas about the direction Madonna should take next: “I would put her like out in the open and make all those flaws, I would just bring them all out in the open and just show them and make this beautiful, like more acoustic type of record with strings and something she could sit down and just sing to a crowd that’s wearing, you know, just nice clothes, a Carnegie Hall or whatever. That would be what I would wanna do. But she will not step into a room with me because that is far from what Madonna wants to do. So Madonna, call me when you’re ready to get back to your strength, all right?"

Over Reddit, Madonna fans agreed with Perry.

The baker of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's wedding cake shared a post to mark the royal couple's 8th anniversary—and revealed the reason why they ultimately decided on a lemon and elderflower flavor for their beautiful cake.

"I had hoped they would choose the Lemon and Elderflower cake tester that I created just for them," Claire Ptak wrote on Instagram.

She went on to explain, "Elderflower is blooming all over England in May and with Amalfi lemons it would be fresh and bright and perfect for a wedding of that magnitude.

"Luckily that was their favourite of the 6 testers too."

She posted a series of behind the scenes pictures from the big day, including several of herself posing with the cake and of her team of bakers responsible for crafting the cake in the lead-up to the wedding in May 2018.

"It took 6 of us 5 days and a LOT of lemons and elderflowers to make that cake," she wrote.

Ptak and her team baked the wedding cake in the safety of Buckingham Palace, as paparazzi had already gathered outside her bakery in London. Two months before the wedding it was announced by Kensington Palace that Ptak had been chosen by Meghan and Harry to bake the cake for their big day.

Ptak had previously been interviewed by the bride-to-be for her former lifestyle blog The Tig.

The cake was a departure from the traditional tiered style favored for British royal weddings. Three different cakes were instead deployed on several gilt platters that had been used by generations of royals.

The flavor was also a break with the traditional alcohol-soaked fruitcake, with each lemon sponge cake covered with fresh buttercream and decorated with fresh roses and elderflowers.

In 2011 Kate Middleton and Prince William chose a very traditional eight-tiered fruitcake for their wedding.

Their wedding baker Fiona Cairns recalled how involved the now-Princess of Wales was with the creation of the cake.

Kate gave Cairns a list of 17 different flowers to be included in the cake's 900 delicate sugar-paste decorations—including heather, lavender, and sweet William—as well as a lace sample from her wedding dress, which was incorporated into the cake’s design.

The cake was decorated using the 'Joseph Lambeth' method, a centuries-old over-piping technique that incorporates ornate rows of intricate details into the frosting.

The top tier of the wedding cake was served two years later at the christening of Kate and William's first child Prince George.

In 2018 Princess Eugenie and her fiancée Jack Brooksbank also departed from the traditional wedding cake style.

Like the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Eugenie and Jack chose a seasonally-themed cake for their October wedding. Their red velvet and chocolate cake was decorated with sugar decorations of ivy to “incorporate the rich colors of autumn”.

Earlier this month Meghan posted a sweet video to her Instagram stories to mark her and Harry's 8th anniversary—featuring a lemon and elderflower cake like the one that was served at their wedding!

In the video Harry carries the cake to Meghan while their children Prince Archie (7) and Princess Lilibet (4) can be heard singing 'Happy anniversary Mama' before Meghan blows out the candles on the cake.

A woman on the verge of retirement inherited a 401(k) account worth $620,000 from her late parents’ estate. This may sound like a windfall, but the inheritance is leaving her with a hefty tax bill that could’ve been avoided.

The Inheritance

recent post by the finance website24/7 Wall Street details how a 67-year-old woman, a few years from retirement, is now facing a decision about how to best access the money her parents left when they passed. The inherited 401(k) is subject to the SECURE Act, which went into effect January 1st, 2020. This law only gives her 10 years to withdraw all of the money from the account. 

As a non-spouse beneficiary, she can technically roll this 401(k) into an Inherited Roth IRA, but it will immediately trigger taxes. Her only options are to either make maximum draws now while she’s still working or take IRS-mandated annual minimum draws now, ramping up those draws once she retires to minimize her lifetime tax bill.

When To Draw

Our beneficiary makes $310,000 a year working part-time at a consulting firm. If she begins the draw now, taking $62,000 a year, she will end up paying around $217,000 in taxes at her marginal rate of 35%. If she takes the minimum required draw now and waits until she retires for the rest, her income will reduce, and she’ll drop into a lower tax bracket, where she’ll pay an effective rate of about 20% (collapsing her into the 22% and 24% brackets), totaling around $124,000.

While the second option saves her nearly $93,000 in taxes, she’s still paying a large tax bill on money her parents worked hard to save for her. The situation isn’t great, but there's a way to safeguard against this issue.

What Should Have Happened

A Roth IRA is a tax wrapper; it can be invested as aggressively as any other account, only it can serve as a tax haven when it comes time to withdraw. Had her parents rolled the traditional 401(k) into a Roth IRA when they were alive, then named her the beneficiary, she’d be in a much better position. 

Hindsight is 20/20, but you can benefit from their mistake. If your plan is to live off of some investment accounts while setting others up to leave to your children, help them avoid large tax bills by converting the funds into accounts like a Roth IRA. If that doesn't sound like a good idea, you can consult a financial advisor for what will work best for your family.

By safeguarding your hard-earned funds against large tax bills under new laws, your children can keep more of the money you worked so hard to save for them.

A new report from Northwestern Mutual highlights that many people plan to rely on their parents when it comes time to retire. According to Northwestern Mutual's 2025 Planning & Progress Study, a whopping 69 percent of one generation say they are relying on inheritance money to fund their golden years.

However, it sounds like only a small portion of those people expect to see any money from their parents, suggesting just how precarious an entire generation's retirement plans seem to be.

69 Percent of Millennials Say Inheritance is 'Critical' to Their Retirement Plans

An entire generation of people is hoping that mom and dad leave them a fat bank account when they die, according to Northwestern Mutual's 2025 Planning & Progress Study. Those interviewed as part of the survey said that inheritance would be a "critical" or "highly critical" part of their retirement plan, which was significantly more than the 57 percent who said the same across all age groups.

However, there is a hiccup in this plan for many, since only 26 percent of Millennials think they will actually receive any money. That's down from 32 percent in the 2024 study.

Americans Think They'll Need $1.26 Million in Retirement

Those Millennials hoping to get some help from their parents when it's time to clock out for good may be surprised by how much money they'll need. According to the study, Americans believe that $1.26 million is the magic number for retirement, and depending on when they start saving, they'll have to sock away a lot of money to get there in time.

For example, Northwestern Mutual says someone who starts saving in their 20s will only need to put away $330 a month to hit that target, while someone who doesn't start saving until their 50s will need to put $3,958 away a month. When you consider that Millennials were born between 1981 and 1996, we fall somewhere in between, at 30 to 45 years old.

According to the study, this means that this generation would need to start putting away $695 to $1,547 a month to save up enough to retire without help from mom and dad. As many of us currently in this age range know, that's next to impossible to do. So, what does that mean for Millennials with no other retirement prospects? According to RBC Wealth Management, you should start doing whatever you can as early as possible.

The wealth management company says it's better to sock away a large chunk at an earlier age so that you can take advantage of compounding interest. So, even if you don't have much of a nest egg right now, starting something today can be more beneficial than waiting until you're more financially secure.

Additionally, the wealth management company says you should max out your company match whenever possible, then use whatever you have left to tackle debts like student loans. While it may not seem like all of that will add up over time, especially if you're only able to chip away at these things starting right now, it sounds like even a little bit can make a big difference if you start early enough.

1976 Soft Rock Hit, Written for Band’s Debut Album, Became a Timeless Love Anthem Despite Never Hitting No. 1

In 1976, Firefall released what would become their career-defining hit with “You Are the Woman.”

The breezy, easy-going single from the band’s self-titled debut album featured romantic lyrics about finding “the one” and a flute interlude performed by band member David Muse. Clocking in at under three minutes, “You Are the Woman” was a simple song of courtship, perfect for ‘70s AM radio.

“You Are the Women” became Firefall’s highest-charting single, peaking at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. It remains a timeless love anthem 50 years later, but it didn’t get love from songwriter Rick Roberts’ bandmates at first.

Bass player Mark Andes once told the Songfacts Podcast, "The band did like a collective eye roll because it was so obvious, so syrupy and formulaic. We knew it was going to be hugely successful, but we resisted. I remember feeling like, "Oh God, really?"

Despite the band's hesitation, “You Are the Woman” was highly requested on ‘70s radio and became Firefall’s signature song.

In the book Brands That Rock, Firefall founding member Jock Bartley recalled, "Every female between the ages of 18 and 24 wanted to be the woman portrayed in the song, and that caused their boyfriends and spouses to call radio stations and subsequently flood the airwaves with dedications of the song and the sentiment. The message was simple and sincere, and the song was easy to sing. It was like our fans let us be a singing version of the  Hallmark card that said what they weren't quite sure what to express."

The soft rock song also wasn’t completely representative of Firefall’s sound. Speaking with Classic Bands’ Gary James, Bartley noted that the band “got so much saturation airplay” on AM radio at the time, and their record company wanted more.

“They wanted us to be ‘You Are The Woman.’ They wanted ten ‘You Are The Woman’ on a record,” he shared. “We were a rock band that would have two or three ballads or love songs that Rick Roberts wrote, these kind of formula ballad love songs.”

“We do a wide range kind of stuff,” he added.

In an interview with Rewind It Magazine, Bartley admitted that the song pigeon-holed Firefall. “That song is kind of white bread pop music and isn’t a ‘rock’ song,” he said, noting that Firefall got the reputation of being a “light poppy band” with a few hit love ballads. “But we’re a diverse rock band with ‘folk rock’ and ‘country rock’ roots,” he added.

Still, the band, which is still active and headed by Bartley, has no qualms about being identified by “You Are the Woman” 50 years later.

"I've been playing 'You Are The Woman' for 40-plus years, and we are so lucky to have a hit song that is that big,” Bartley told Songfacts. “That song has kept me working for 40 years and has kept Firefall together, so I'm happy to play it."

1966 Brian Wilson Classic Was Nearly 50 Years Old When The Beach Boys Put Their Own Spin on It

Few albums are as closely tied to Brian Wilson’s creative genius as the LP Pet Sounds.

However, one of the record’s most beloved tracks actually began life decades earlier, long before the Beach Boys transformed it with their signature harmonies. The only non-original song on the album hailed from author Richard Le Gallienne’s 1917 novel Pieces of Eight as a Bahamian folk song.

American Songwriter reported that the tune was originally named "The John B. Sails." Following its inclusion in the Le Gallienne novel, Carl Sandburg, poet and biographer, included the lyrics in his 1927 folk compilation, The American Songbag.

Subsequently, the song was recorded by The Kingston Trio in 1958 with the title “(The Wreck of the) John B.” Following, versions were recorded by Johnny Cash (1969), Lonnie Donegan (1960), and Jimmie Rodgers (1960). By the time Wilson discovered the song, it was almost 50 years old.

Rolling Stone named the tune one of 25 Essential Brian Wilson Songs in a comprehensive list, published in 2025. They wrote, "Wilson warmed to the song, giving it a sprightly arrangement full of flutes that showcased his brilliance as a studio maestro."

In an interview published on the band's official YouTube channel, Wilson and Al Jardine discussed the song.

Jardine said, "The first seminal influence that began to take shape for Pet Sounds in that year was the recording of 'Sloop John B.'"

Wilson added, "Al Jardine brought over the lyrics. He played me the song, and he goes, 'Can you arrange it?' I said sure, so I arranged it with the Kingston Trio. We took it and adapted the arrangement."

Jardine concluded, "It began to develop pretty incredible dimensions of harmonies and production values that we were starting to see from Brian."

He later said in the album's liner notes, "I did was sit down and play it for him in the Beach Boys idiom. I figured if I gave it to him in the right light, he might end up believing in it."

"The very next day, I got a phone call to come down to the studio. Brian played the song for me, and I was blown away. The idea stage to the completed track took less than 24 hours."

Color Psychologist Says These 5 Favorite Colors Are Loved by ‘Especially Creative’ People

Many of us are inherently drawn to certain colors, and this is especially true for creative types whose careers often revolve around visual choices. There are five favorite colors that are especially common amongst creative people, says Michelle Lewis, a color psychology expert and author of Color Secrets. She's also the founder of The Color Institute and ColorAnalysis.com, which help people across industries use color to their benefit.

"Research has shown that certain colors directly support the kind of relaxed, expansive mental state where creative thinking thrives," says Lewis, adding, "You don't accidentally stumble into flow in a chaotic, visually aggressive environment. You cultivate it."

She has seen the color choices cultivated in recent years leaning towards a sense of tranquility, even as our world seems to be speeding away from that.

"Cross-referencing color trends across film, fashion and interior design over the past two years with Gallup's global emotional data, which has tracked world stress at record highs, a clear pattern is emerging," she tells Parade. "The world's most creative people are reaching, almost universally, for calm... because in a world that is overwhelmed and overstimulated, calm is the creative act."

And, according to Lewis, there are several specific colors that reflect that creative desire for serenity.

What Does Color Psychology Say About Creativity and Artistic Individuals?

Lewis explains that creative people are "wired for sensitivity" and that "color psychology tells us that this sensitivity shows up directly in their color choices." When examining creative work, wardrobes and spaces, she believes that their color choices "are rarely accidental."

She adds that those looking to unlock their own creativity can start by examining the colors around them.

"Are they working for you or against you? Because your nervous system already knows the answer," she notes. "Color psychology just gives you the understanding to implement it."

Is There a Link Between Creativity and Color Preference?

Lewis says that the connection between color preference and creativity "is more biological than most people realize."

"Color preference among creatives is less about what looks good and more about what works, what regulates [and] what opens the mind rather than closes it down," she adds.

Currently regulating the creative space are colors that evoke "the kind of calm" that makes creativity possible, she states.

1. Green

"In a world running on empty, [green is] the color of balance and regeneration," says Lewis. She cites the Elphaba greens of Wicked and Charli XCX's neon green BRAT album as recent creative examples. The passion for green stretches into our current timeline as well, with Behr's color of the year for 2026 being a smoky jade.

2. Blue

According to Science Daily, a 2009 study from the University of British Columbia found that tasks completed on blue computer screens produced more creative outputs, and Lewis says the color is closely linked to creativity.

"Blue is the color that creates the internal conditions where creative thought actually happens," she shares. She says that it's been shown to help "by slowing the nervous system just enough to let original thinking surface."

She adds that the hue "has anchored film palettes and fashion runways consistently, because creatives know blue is how you access your mind in a noisy world."

3. Orange

"Orange is the color creatives reach for when they want to invite people in," Lewis tells Parade.

The hue has gotten even more attention in recent years, with Pantone's 2024 color of the year being "Peach Fuzz" and trend forecaster WGSN naming "Energy Orange" as a key trend color for 2027.

Lewis says that orange "doesn't just energize the person using it; it changes the energy of everyone around them."

4. Purple

"Purple dominated graphic design, branding, film and interior design throughout 2024 and 2025," states Lewis. She adds, "Creatives understand what it does; it pulls an audience into a deeper experience of the world."

In 2025, she notes that PPG Paints named "Purple Basil" the color of the year. And MarthaStewart.com proclaimed purple as the interior design trend of 2025—plus, who could forget Olivia Rodrigo making it her signature color for her first two albums?

Lewis says purple is often used to "represent something just beyond the ordinary—exactly where the most creative minds live."

5. Red

Lewis says that in 2025, red was the most popular color used across 25,000 logo designs, per the design platform Looka. And that's seemingly intentional.

"Creatives don't reach for red passively," she notes. She calls it "a declaration," aka a color choice for "when they're ready to make something that demands to be seen."

Are There Specific Colors Linked To Repressed Creativity?

The antithesis to creativity is "when color disappears entirely," says Lewis. She adds that "colorless, visually flat environments measurably suppress cognitive performance and emotional engagement."

Indeed, research from Istanbul Technical University found that "the absence of color affects emotional well-being and physiological responses."

"The deeper issue is... when people are cut off from color, in their environment, their wardrobe, their creative spaces, their learning—they're removing one of the most powerful neurological activation tools available to the human brain," Lewis explains. "Creativity doesn't thrive in a vacuum. It needs stimulus, warmth and signal. A life drained of color is quietly draining our creative potential."

My most recent cruise was an Eastern Caribbean itinerary on the Disney Treasure, and it was the perfect weeklong cruise from Florida. Later this summer, Royal Caribbean’s newest ship, Legend of the Seas, will take its maiden voyage around the Western Mediterranean. No matter which port you start from, you’ll visit picturesque destinations like Naples, Italy; Provence, France; Palma de Mallorca, Spain; and Florence, Italy. One of my favorite ports is Provence, where you can stay in Marseille or take an excursion to towns a little further away, like Aix-en-Provence, which is one of my favorite places in France.

Attention cheese lovers: Pizza Hut has a new menu item just for you. The popular chain is debuting the Crispy Parm Pan Pizza, an all-new pizza that goes all in on cheese for a decadent upgrade on a beloved classic. 

Available nationwide at participating locations starting at $10 for a medium, one-topping pizza, the new pie adds crispy Parmesan cheese to the iconic pan pizza, topping it all off with extra cheese for an indulgent bite. “It's crispy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside, highly craveable and unmistakably Pizza Hut,” said the brand in a statement.

It also took to social media to announce the news with a video where a woman dressed as a reporter “interviewed” the “irresistible” new pie before sneaking off to indulge in the pizza herself. Taylor Swift has created yet another "truly special" memory for one young fan and her neighbor that the two will likely "cherish forever," and Swifties are praising the "wonderful example" she's set for humanity with the "heartwarming gesture."

Natalie Hulec recently shared a video of her 8-year-old daughter, Madeline, and the girl's creative attempt to catch her neighbor's, Ethan Hayes, attention, going viral last month with a TikTok video that documented the way Madeline constructed a paper airplane with a note written across it, thrown over their shared fence to request Hayes, who she heard singing and playing his guitar in the backyard, play a song by the superstar.

He was quick to grant her request and broke into "Love Story," despite not knowing all of the words, with Madeline's sweet voice accompanying him all the way from inside her own home as they listened through the window.

The original video garnered nearly half a million likes, and drove new fans to Hayes' platform, too—with many more requests coming in for covers of the "Fortnight" singer's songs.

It also made its way to Swift's For You Page, and the singer quickly put together a gift package for Hayes and Madeline, sending them each a handwritten letter with their care package.

Her team reached out for his address on the social media platform, instructing, "Don't tell anyone until it gets there." He assumed she'd be sending "a signed poster or something," but the pair got brand-new signed guitars, "which is insane," the musician told People in a new interview.

Hulec's mother also shared a photo of the letter her daughter received, which reads, “Dearest Madeline, I just wanted to let you know that it made me SO happy that you asked your neighbor to play my song for you. You brought the biggest smile to my face! I’m sending you your own guitar, in case you ever want to learn too! And sending you my love! Thanks again! Taylor."

American Airlinesjust announced a sweeping modernization of its narrowbody inflight customer experience with the installation of Starlink, which the carrier is proudly calling the "fastest Wi-Fi in the sky."

Engineered by SpaceX, the low-Earth-orbit satellite network is designed to deliver a blazing-fast, at-home level of broadband gate to gate. The multi-gigabit upgrade will roll out across more than 500 narrowbody Airbus aircraft, including upcoming A321XLR and A321neo deliveries beginning early 2027.

How Competitors Are Responding to the Wi-Fi Wars

American’s move to introduce Starlink comes at a time when free onboard internet is quickly transitioning from a premium luxury into a basic expectation. Through its Delta Sync rollout presented by T-Mobile, Delta already offers fast, free Wi-Fi on over 1,000 of its domestic and international aircraft.

You don't even need to be T-Mobile customers to use it; you simply log into the onboard portal using a free Delta SkyMiles account to instantly unlock full streaming, browsing and messaging capabilities. Delta recently announced that it will partner with Amazon LEO for the next generation of internet on hundreds of its jets beginning in 2028.

Other major carriers are moving just as fast to capture remote workers and casual browsers alike:

  • JetBlue: Long the pioneer of free inflight internet, JetBlue continues to offer its signature "Fly-Fi" completely free to every single passenger from the moment you board to the moment you land. Starting in 2027, JetBlue will also partner with Amazon LEO to power its next-generation inflight internet.
  • United Airlines: United has also hopped on the free internet wave, announcing its own Starlink rollout. The airline has already begun activating the ultra-fast satellite service on select flights, making it entirely free for its MileagePlus members. On flights still utilizing older satellite networks, United charges members $8 and non-members $10.
  • Southwest and Alaska Airlines: Both carriers have expanded their partnerships with T-Mobile to offer free texting and premium streaming-quality internet passes, while actively upgrading their fleets to next-generation satellite hardware to handle heavy data loads.

With airlines increasingly dropping paywalls and upgrading to low-latency satellite networks, the era of paying $20 for painfully slow airplane internet is finally coming to a close.

This '70s Top 10 'Monster Hit' Was Originally Much Too Short to Release

In the height of his popularity, "Peace Train" singer Cat Stevens, born Yusuf Islam, had only ever made it as high as a No. 6 hit with his myriad singles, with 1972's "Morning Has Broken" becoming the first of his tracks to reach that slot (two years later, "Another Saturday Night" would tie it).

But, the beloved folk track, which was born from an English hymn of the same name, was far too short to release at first. It was a touching salute to a new day that the singer-songwriter stumbled upon in a hymn book while looking for new ideas. "It was quite a traditional song sung in the church, and I just did my own arrangement," he once told Billboard. "I fell in love with the melody and the words, and people think it’s mine."

Penned in 1931 by author and poet Eleanor Farjeon and set to an old Gaelic melody called "Bunessan," the track praises the "recreation" of a new day by detailing the wonder in the simple things like a bird's song or the dew on the grass.

In its original state, it barely hits 45 seconds long, though Stevens' demo managed to stretch it out a fair bit. Still, producers didn't feel there was enough to it for a record, and he called in some big guns to help flesh it out into the classic fans know and love—and mistake for his—today.

Stevens had already invited keyboardist Rick Wakeman to play on the album that housed "Morning Has Broken," Teaser and the Firecat, and leaned on him for not only a spiced-up piano backing, but a little restructuring to build it into the hit it would become.

They started by repeating the first verse at the end, which bumped the run time up to about a minute and ten seconds. Then, Wakeman wove his composition throughout the verses, and they threw in a couple of key changes for good measure. By the time Wakeman was done "sticking in" various bits and pieces, as he recalled during a speaking engagement, they had a "monster, monster hit" that clocked in at over three minutes long—a perfectly respectable length for a Top 10 single.
