Warrenton Prevails Over Sullivan On PKs

Warrenton goalkeeper Will Nordstrom deflected a penalty kick from Trey Behrens to help the Warriors prevail against Sullivan 2-1 on Thursday.

The Warriors outscored Sullivan 3-2 on penalty kicks.

The Eagles suffered their second straight one-goal loss and they remained winless in their last seven contests.

Sullivan fell behind 2-0 in penalty kicks, but Owen Farrell kept hope alive by scoring in the third round.

Warrenton’s Bryan Guerrero made it 3-1 and Jordan Dicus answered for the Eagles.

Andrew Starr came away with his second save as he turned away Jack Scruggs’ kick.

Nordstrom made the final save.

The two teams clashed for 80 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime on a frosty night at Sullivan High School.

The Eagles were looking to earn a win for the first time since defeating Camdenton on Sept. 22.

Warrenton led 1-0 at the half, but Sullivan struck quickly after intermission.

Farrell directed a kick from the left side to find Dillon Freeman racing towards the net. Freeman scored from point-blank range in the 42nd minute to tie the game at 1-1.

Both teams played stingy defense and denied prime scoring chances.

At first glance, it appeared Sullivan was going to get a chance to end the second overtime with a penalty kick.

Farrell, who had a step on two defenders with 10 seconds left, was shoved to the ground in the penalty area.

Warrenton recovered the ball and ran out the clock as Farrell waited for a call.
