Morgan Bobbitt is greeted by teammates after hitting a two-run homer in the third inning against Northwest

Three And Out: Lady Eagles Knock Out Northwest In Three Innings

For the second time in as many days, Sullivan finished off an opponent with a walk-off win.

On Tuesday, Hannah Cox drilled a three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning to give Sullivan a 17-0 lead and end the game via mercy rule.

Against Northwest on Wednesday, Morgan Bobbitt sailed a pitch over the fence in left field to again trigger the mercy rule and lead Sullivan to a 15-0 win in just three innings.

The win extended Sullivan’s winning streak to six as the Lady Eagles (12-2) approached the final 28 days of the season.

The offense continued to roll, backed by Bobbitt’s second homer for the second straight day and her third of the season. Bobbitt was 2-2 with five RBIs, three runs scored and a walk.

Bobbitt almost didn’t get an opportunity to bat in the bottom of the third. Addison Purvis and Hanna Johanning both missed home runs by a matter of inches in the second. After an RBI single by Hannah Cox to make it 13-0, Johanning crushed a pitch deep to center that was caught right at the fence.

Sullivan had 11 hits. Cox was 3-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Addison Purvis singled and doubled, while Emma Weirich had a pair of bunt singles. Johanning walked, singled, drove in a run and scored twice. Kamryn Lohden drew two walks and scored three times. Abbey Daniel was 1-2 with three RBIs.

In the circle, Purvis struck out seven of the 11 batters she faced. She walked one and allowed one hit.

Northwest starter Maddison Welker retired Kloey Blanton to start the first, but proceeded to allow seven straight baserunners. Johanning put the Lady Eagles up 1-0 on a single. Bobbitt had a two-run single and took second on the throw home, then Lohden scored on a passed ball with Daniel batting for a 4-0 lead. Daniel hit a grounder to second that was misplayed and allowed Bobbitt to score from third. Sullivan led 5-0 after the first inning.

Purvis and Cox started the second with doubles, prompting Northwest to switch to Vanessa Cardenas. Cardenas walked the first three batters she saw and Sullivan went up 7-0. Daniel hit a two-run single. Bobbitt stole third and scored on the throw to the bag for a 10-0 lead. After Decker walked and Weirich reached safely on a bunt, Blanton lofted a sacrifice fly. A double steal with Purvis batting put Sullivan up 12-0.

Cox hit a two-out single off the glove of the third baseman, which scored Weirich.

The third inning took just five pitches. Lohden reached on an error at third to bring up Bobbitt, who crushed Cardenas’ 2-0 pitch for a walk-off homer.
