Sullivan Sweeps Affton, Windsor In Home Opener

Sullivan was dominant Tuesday in their opener against Affton and Windsor, sweeping their opponents 62-18 and 58-16 respectively.

Eight Eagles won in both of their matches. Dillon Witt, Ty Shetley, Jonathan Krygiel, Isaac Peregoy, Ian Kilburn, Trey Eplin, Evan Shetley and Tristan Brown won two contested bouts. Evan Shetley won his first match of the night at 182 pounds, then stepped up a weight class to win at 195.

Eagles head coach Matt Peregoy said he is satisfied with how the season has started.

“We have been wrestling at a pretty high level,” said Peregoy, whose team had taken fifth place three days earlier at the Steve Leslie Invitational. “Tuesday, we definitely came to wrestle. We look pretty tough right now. Once we get all our lineup set, we should be even better.”

Witt (113) pinned Windsor’s Reilly Baughman in 18 seconds and Affton’s Logan Pfyl in 1:16.

Ty Shetley (132) quickly dispatched both his opponents, scoring a pin against Windsor’s Connor Meynell in 1:54 and Affton’s Adem Niksic in 58 seconds.

Krygiel (145) also worked quickly. He pinned Imperial’s Dominic Pona in 58 seconds and Affton’s Nick Odom in 1:15. 

Kilburn (160) won a major decision 11-3 against Windsor’s Austin Henry. He pinned Affton’s Daniel Goins in 1:54.

Evan Shetley (182) pinned Windsor’s Brandon Ruegge in 3:06. Against Affton, he moved up and won a 6-2 decision against Affton’s Eli Cotton. 

Peregoy (170) won by forfeit against Windsor. He had an 18-1 technical fall against Affton’s Michael Moran. Eplin won due to a pair of forfeits.

Tristan Brown (285) pinned Affton’s Nick Hill in 2:31. He also won by forfeit against Windsor.

Kobie Blankenship (152) pinned Affton’s Conner Westermayer in 42 seconds. He lost a 13-3 major decision against Windsor’s Grant Pauli. 

Jacob Smith (220) won by forfeit against Windsor. He lost by pin to Affton’s Jacob Kelmendi. 

John Johnson (106) and Jeremy Sheedy (106) each won by forfeit.

Joseph Lewis (126) won by forfeit, but lost by pin to Windsor’s Tyler Perry. 

Ethan Hines (138) was pinned by Windsor’s Michael Wolcott and Affton’s Andrew Heller.

Sullivan was open at 120 pounds.
