Sullivan Streaks Into Districts With Rolla Tourney Championship

Sullivan put the finishing touches on their regular season Saturday with a championship at the Rolla Tournament.

The Lady Eagles (24-2) have won 18 straight games heading into this week’s Class 3 District 9 tournament at Sullivan. It’s been nearly six weeks since Sullivan lost and both losses this season have come to Class 4 schools.

Sullivan outscored opponents 31-6 in four games at Rolla. They defeated Rolla 14-3 on Friday, then shutout Incarnate Word 6-0.

On Saturday, Sullivan defeated Cor Jesu 6-1 in the semifinals, the second time this season they have defeated the Chargers. Against Rockwood Summit, the Lady Eagles won 5-2 to claim the tournament title.

Rolla

Sullivan hit four homers in a 14-3 win against the Lady Bulldogs. Addison Purvis, Hannah Cox, Hanna Johanning and Morgan Bobbitt all went deep.

Rolla walked Purvis three times. Cox was 2-4 with three RBIs. Johanning was 2-3 with three RBIs and Bobbitt was 1-3 with two RBIs. Emma Weirich finished 2-2 with two singles, a walk and two runs scored. Kloey Blanton drew a pair of walks and scored. Abbey Daniel doubled, singled and drove in run. Madison Decker had two singles.

Cox started and allowed no earned runs.

Incarnate Word

Sullivan scored four runs in the fifth inning to break open the game and roll to a 6-0 win against the Red Knights.

Purvis, Cox, Johanning and Daniel each had two hits. Purvis doubled and tripled. Cox doubled and drove in a run and scored. Johanning also doubled and tripled, driving in a pair and scoring a run. Daniel had a pair of singles.

Kamryn Lohden doubled, scored and drove in a run. Bobbitt singled and had an RBI. Decker doubled with an RBI.

Purvis went five innings, striking out 10 and allowing just three hits.

Cor Jesu

When Sullivan played Cor Jesu at the Summit Tournament on Aug. 26, the Lady Eagles won in blowout fashion, 14-2.

Saturday’s game was much tighter. Sullivan led just 2-1 through the top of the fourth, but scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning and one more in the fifth to take the semifinal contest 6-1.

The Lady Eagles had 12 hits. Purvis led the way with three, including two doubles and two RBIs. Blanton doubled and singled, driving in a run and scoring. Daniel had two singles. Weirich, Johanning, Bobbitt, Decker and Grace Glaser all had hits.

Purvis struck out 10 in five innings, allowing four hits and one walk.

Summit

Sullivan jumped out to a 5-0 lead and held on for a 5-2 win.

Cox homered, doubled and drove in three runs as part of a three-hit game. Weirich doubled and singled, scoring two runs. Purvis had two singles and drove in a run.

Johanning, Lohden and Daniel all had singles.

Purvis went seven innings, striking out eight and allowing two earned runs. She walked one and gave up six hits.
