Sullivan Shuts Out Affton

Abbey Daniel launched a home run and Addison Purvis struck out 14 Monday in Sullivan’s 10-0 win at Affton.

The victory was Sullivan’s fifth straight.

Daniel’s homer concluded a four-run sixth inning, which was more than enough for Purvis.

Purvis neutralized Affton’s bats with a four-hit shutout.

Sullivan (14-4) seized a 1-0 lead in the first when Purvis walked and was replaced on the bases by Reagan Thomure. Thomure scored from first on a two-out double by Kloey Blanton.

Three straight singles by Danile, Grace Glaser and Sophia Weirich loaded the bases to start the second, but Affton starter Emelie Mandernach retired the next two batters. That brought up Purvis and with nowhere to put her, Mandernach served up a 2-1 pitch that she sent to center. Daniel and Glaser scored to give Sullivan a 3-0 lead. Lohden followed by driving in Weirich.

Sullivan added two more runs in the fifth on a RBI double by Daniel that scored Riley Diggs. Keeley Lechten stole home when Glaser was thrown out trying to take second.

Lohden struck another RBI double in the sixth to score Thomure. Decker added an RBI single and Daniel slugged a two-run homer to bring Sullivan’s lead to 10-0.
