Sullivan Heats Up To Beat Hermann

After a slow start Tuesday at Hermann, Sullivan heated up from the second quarter on and rallied past the Bearcats.

Josh Wiese popped three 3-pointers, including two in the fourth quarter, and Sullivan took their Four Rivers Conference opener 54-45.

Wiese opened the final period with a trey that gave the Eagles a 40-35 lead. Austin Lewis later converted a three-point play with three minutes to go, staking the Eagles to a 50-39 lead. Lewis finished with 11 points.

Winners of three straight, Sullivan (10-8) fell behind by eight early in the third quarter. The Eagles streaked ahead from that point and carried a 37-35 lead into the fourth quarter. Cody McKinney had a pair of 3’s to help bring Sullivan back.

After a Rhet Scheidegger 3-pointer with 5:13, cutting Sullivan’s lead down to 45-39, McKinney drove into the lane for a basket out of a timeout. He finished with a team-high 19 points.

Wiese later blocked an Anderson shot, which led to Lewis’s three-point play on the other end.

Hermann led 11-5 after the first quarter and 27-23 at the half, bolstered by sophomore Trent Anderson. Anderson led all scorers with 20 points.

Landon Hoffman scored eight points for the Eagles, which included two 3-pointers. Jacob Rohrer added four points and Caleb Todd scored three.
